Eines der aktuell günstigsten Ultralight Zelte wird von Decathlon angeboten. Die Rede ist vom Trekking-Zelt Trek 900 Ultralight* . Das Zelt ist teilweise frei stehend und wiegt vollständig nur ca. 1,3 Kilo. Außerdem glänzt das Zelt mit einem besonders kleinem Packmaß von nur 39 × 11 × 10 cm. Dadurch passt es hervorragend auch in kleine Rucksäcke oder in eine Bikepacking Lenkerrolle.

Entwickelt wurde das Zelt für den Drei-Jahreszeiten-Einsatz (Frühling, Sommer, Herbst). Eins schonmal vorweg: Hinsichtlich Qualität und Stabilität scheint es für Bikepacking und Trekkingtouren in Mitteleuropa das ideale Zelt zu sein.

Decathlon Forclaz Trek 900 Highlights

Damit eignet sich das Zelt ideal für Bikepacking, Radreise oder für Trekking Touren. ✅ Teilweise Selbsttragend: Für einen festen Stand und das optimale Platzangebot benötigt das Decathlon Ultralight Zelt 4 Heringe im Boden. Attraktiv ist auch der Preis des Trek 900: ca. 130 € kostet das Ultraleicht Zelt bei Decathlon. Gute Ultraleicht Zelte können gerne das dreifache kosten. Wie wird sich das Zelt in der Praxis bewähren?

• Wie schnell kann man es auf und abbauen?
• Ist das Zelt lange haltbar oder muss man angesichts des günstigen Preis Abstriche bei der Qualität hinnehmen?
• Wie stabil steht es bei Seitenwinden und was bedeutet die Wassersäule in der Praxis?

Diese Fragen werden im Decathlon Trek 900 Test geklärt! Das Ultralight Zelt habe ich direkt in meine Bikepacking Lenkerrolle gepackt. Mit meinem Gravel Bike , gepackten Bikepacking Taschen von Topeak und dem Forclaz Trek 900 war ich auf den holprigen Schotterwegen und MTB-Trails der Bikepacking Trans Germany Route unterwegs.

Forclaz Trek 900 Ultralight Test – Das Zelt im Praxistest

Zum Einsatz kam das Forclaz Trek 900 Ultraleicht Zelt auf meiner Tour auf der Bikepacking Trans Germany Route in Deutschland und in Tschechien.

Das Zelt hat mir auf der gesamten Tour gut gefallen und daher werde ich es auch weiter einsetzen. Natürlich aktualisiere ich dann auch den Testbericht mit weiteren Praxiserfahrungen z.B. hinsichtlich der Wassersäule.

In meinem Trek 900 Test habe ich das Ultraleicht Zelt auf verschiedenen Untergrundbedingungen aufbaut: Als Untergrund kam auf dieser Reise vieles vor:

• Vom weichen Waldboden bis hin zu Schotter
• Von spitzem und abgemähtem Gras bis hin zu Asphalt

Das Decathlon Ultralight Zelt habe ich mehrfach auf Gras mit weichem Boden aufgebaut. Das sind beste Bedingungen für das Zelt, denn es muss laut Decathlon mit Heringen befestigt werden, um ideal zu stehen. Das Zelt wird daher auch nicht als vollständig frei stehend, sondern als teilweise selbsttragend bezeichnet.

Im Praxiseinsatz hatte ich es auch auf Kiesboden und auf Betonplatten aufgebaut. An diesen Orten war dann das Befestigen von Heringen nicht möglich. Das Zelt wurde also nur von den eigenen Y-förmige Zeltstangen gehalten. Ohne Heringe entfaltet der Innenraum nicht sein volles Volumen und das Zelt ist auch nicht sehr windstabil. Zur Not funktioniert das aber auch und natürlich habe ich den Aufbau auch ohne die Heringe getestet 😉

Beim Forclaz Trek 900 lässt sich auch nur das Innenzelt aufbauen. Im Sommer schlafe ich sehr gerne ausschließlich im Innenzelt und genieße dabei das naturnahe Erlebnis 🙂 das Innenzelt besitzt einen hohen Anteil an Moskitonetz und somit ist die Sicht auf den Sternenhimmel frei. Außerdem hat man beste Belüftung im Zelt.

Den Footprint, also die Bodenplane, kann als Zubehör gekauft werden. Ich habe das Zelt immer mit dem Footprint zusammen aufgebaut und empfehle das auch ausdrücklich! Die Plane schützt den Zeltboden vor Abnutzung und auch empfindliche Ausrüstung im Zelt werden zusätzlich geschützt z.B. eine Isomatte. Der Footprint ist zudem klein, leicht und günstig. Mit dem Footprint lässt sich z.B. auch nur das Außenzelt ohne das Innenzelt oder bei Regen das Innenzelt zuerst aufbauen (habe ich noch nicht getestet).

Gewicht und Packmaß

Besonders leicht und kompakt ist das Forclaz Trek 900 Ultraleicht Zelt. Das ist auch eine der großen Stärken des Trekking Zelts.

Das Zelt selbst wird in einer praktischen Aufbewahrungshülle geliefert. Darin findet das Außenzelt, sowie das Innenzelt Platz. Mit einem Reißverschluss wird die Hülle sauber verschlossen und durch das Anziehen von zwei Kompressionsriemen lässt sich zusätzlich Platz sparen. Für die Heringe und die Schnüre gibt es ebenfalls einen praktischen Aufbewahrungsbeutel.

Folgendes Gesamtgewicht habe ich beim 1 Personen Ultralight Zelt selbst nachgewogen:

Gesamtgewicht: 1301 Gramm – Ultraleicht also 😉

Diese Gewichtsangaben macht Decathlon auf seiner Produktseite:

• Außenzelt: 365 Gramm
• Innenzelt: 420 Gramm
• Zeltstangen: 290 Gramm
• Zeltheringe (10 Stk.): 100 Gramm
• Transporthüllen: 45 20 Gramm + 12 Gramm
• Reparaturset (Zeltstangen-Hülse und Zelt-Flicken): 20 Gramm

Das Innenzelt lässt sich auch ohne das Außenzelt aufbauen. Ebenso kann man das Außenzelt ohne das Innenzelt aufbauen. Für diese Fälle habe ich folgendes Gewicht gewogen:

• 767 Gramm für das Innenzelt und die Zeltstangen (inkl. 59 Gramm Zelt-Packtasche)
• 731 Gramm für Außenzelt und die Zeltstangen (inkl. 59 Gramm Zelt-Packtasche)
• 59 Gramm für Heringe, Abspannleinen, Reparaturset und den kleinen Packsack

Wie bei jedem Ultraleicht Zelt empfehle ich auf jeden Fall die Verwendung einer Bodenplane. Der Footprint wiegt zusätzlich 150 Gramm und Du kannst ihn hier kaufen.

Das Zelt hatte ich während der gesamten Tour in der Lenkerrolle meines Gravel Bikes Bombtrack Beyond 1 . Bei einem Fahrrad mit Flare-Bar ist der Platz zwischen dem Lenker begrenzt und es passen nur kompakte Zelte zwischen den Lenker. Dank des Packmaß von 39 × 11 × 10 cm (selbst nachgemessen) ist das beim Trek 900 überhaupt kein Problem.

Die Zeltstangen sind im Packmass nicht inbegriffen, ebensowenig wie der Footprint und die Heringe. Das ist aber überhaupt kein Problem. In folgenden Taschen findet das Zelt mit kleinem Packmaß locker Platz:

• Bikepacking: Zelt und Zubehör passen in eine Lenkerrolle zwischen dem Lenker ( unten abgebildet: Topeak Bikepacking Taschen – hier gehts zum Topeak Bikepacking Taschen Test)
• Radtour und Radreise: In traditionellen Radtaschen passt alles bis auf die Zeltstangen. Diese befestigst Du am besten direkt auf dem Gepäckträger.
• Trekking und Wandern: Beim Wandern passt das vollständige Trekking Zelt inkl. Zeltstangen schon in einen sehr kleinen Rucksack.

Material und Verarbeitung vom Forclaz Trek 900 Ultralight

Wie bei Ultraleicht Zelten üblich, ist das Material des Zelts recht dünn. Davon sollte man sich nicht beirren lassen, denn das Zelt wird nicht gleich zerreißen! In der Praxis hat sich gezeigt, dass das Trek 900 Ultralight ein wiederstandsfähiges Ultraleicht Zelt ist. Auch, wenn mir mit dem Decathlon Zelt natürlich noch die Langzeiterfahrung fehlt.

Zusätzlich ist ein kleiner Beutel im Lieferumfang. Darin können die Aluminiumheringe sauber verstaut werden. Die Optik der Heringe finde ich beim Ersteindruck etwas unspektakuläre. Sie sind silber matt und haben dadurch einen “used Look” und wirken schlicht.

Laut Decathlon wurde aus Umweltgründen bewusst auf das Eloxieren der Heringe verzichtet. Damit kann ich mich gut arrangieren. Bei der Funktion der robusten Heringe gibt es nichts zu meckern: Auch wenn man sie mit viel Kraft in den Boden treibt, behalten sie vorbildlich Ihre Form.

Die Heringe befinden sich in einer praktischen Aufbewahrungshülle. In der gleichen Hülle, in einem getrennten Fach, befindet sich das Reparaturset.

Schade finde ich, dass keine Tragehülle für das Gestänge im Lieferumfang ist. Hier muss man also selbst improvisieren. Positiv ist das Reparaturset, das gleich mit geliefert wird. Damit kann eine gebrochene Zeltstange repariert werden.

Innen- und Außenzelt

Folgendes Material kommt beim Trek 900 zum Einsatz:

• Außenzelt: Polyester (PES) 20D
• Innenzelt: Polyester – keine Angabe zur Materialstärke
• Boden: Polyamid (PA) 40D

Nähte sind oft der Schwachpunkt eines Zelts. Hier kann leicht Feuchtigkeit eindringen. Daher wurden alle Nähte mit thermogeklebtem Band versiegelt.

Footprint vom Forclaz Trek 900 Ultralight

Der Footprint kann als extra Zubehör gekauft werden. Das Zubehör ist klein, leicht, günstig und passt dank seiner Form und dank der Verankerung-Ösen bestens zum Ultralight Zelt.

Warum einen Footprint? Diese Bodenplane schützte den Boden vom Decathlon Ultralight Zelt und sollte unbedingt mit ins Gepäck.

Gestänge und Heringe – Decathlon Ultraleicht Zelt Test

Die Zeltstangen sind zu 100% aus Aluminium. Beim Material kommen typische Ultraleicht-Stärken zum Einsatz. Bei der Verwendung mit dem Footprint und Transport in der Tragehülle erwarte ich hier ein Zelt, dass über viele Jahre eingesetzt werden kann.

Die Zeltstangen werden von einem Gummi zusammen gehalten. Der Gummi vereinfacht das Zusammenschieben der Zeltstangen. Das Außenzelt wird dann einfach an die Stangen geklipst. Den Aufbau im Detail zeige ich dir weiter unten im Artikel.

In der Praxis habe ich für den Zeltaufbau vier Heringe verwendet. Damit steht das Zelt stabil. Decathlon empfiehlt in der Anleitung die Verwendung von mehr Heringen.

Innen- und Außenzelt sind beim Trek 900 nicht miteinander verbunden. Beide können zusammen oder auch getrennt voneinander aufgebaut werden.

Vom Typ ist das Trek 900 ein teilweise selbsttragendes Zelt d.h. es steht bereits ohne Heringe und ohne abgespannt zu werden. Die Zeltstangen bilden eine Y-förmige Kuppel: Dadurch steht das Zeltgestänge auf drei Beinen und ist eingeschränkt selbst trägt. Zur Not kann man auch ohne die Verwendung von Heringen im Zelt schlafen (was ich auch schon gemacht habe).

Allerdings kann erst durch das Befestigen der Heringe der volle Raum im Innenzelt genutzt werden und das Zelt erreicht seine volle Stabilität.

Die Anleitung erklärt den Aufbau vom Zelt logisch und nachvollziehbar. Ein oder zweimal benötigt man die Anleitung zum Aufbau. Danach geht der Vorgang in Fleisch und Blut über und man benötigt ca. 7 bis 10 Minuten für den Aufbau.

Zusammenfassen kann man den Aufbau wie folgt:

• Innenzelt auf den Boden Legen
• Innenzelt m Zeltgestänge einhaken und fest klippsen
• Außenzelt am Gestänge befestigen
• Zelt festzurren, Heringe befestigen und abspannen

Farbliche Kennzeichnungen sind an den Zeltstangen, am Innenzelt und am Außenzelt angebracht. Das hilft beim Aufbau und man befestigt das Außenzelt intuitiv richtig rum am Gestänge. Bei anderen Zelten bin ich hier regelmäßig verwirrt.

Auch praktisch: Das Außenzelt kann von innen aufgebaut werden z.B. bei Regen oder wenn man besonders leicht ohne Innenzelt unterwegs sein möchte. Dafür benötigt man dann auf jeden Fall die Bodenplane. Wie Du weißt, empfehle ich dieses Zubehör ohnehin jedem.

Der Aufbau des Innenzelts ohne das Außenzelt ist auch möglich.

Jetzt erfährst Du alle Schritte für den Zelt-Aufbau im Detail:

Aufbau Footprint (Bodenplane) – empfohlen:

• Footprint auf den Boden legen
• Zeltstangen in den Footprint in die Ösen am Rand klemmen

Den Footprint musst Du nicht verwenden aber er wird die Lebensdauer des Trek 900 erhöhen und schützt zudem zusätzlich vor eindringendem Wasser von unten.

Aufbau Innenzelt:

• Die Zeltstangen durch die Ösen am Rand des Außenzelt klemmen
• Das Außenzelt besitzt mehrere stabile Plastikhaken: Die Plastikhaken an die Zeltstange klemmen

3. Das Innenzelt besitzt zwei Aluminiumösen in der Mitte: Das Innenzelt mit den Ösen an der Zeltstange befestigen. Dadurch wird das Zeltdachgestänge aufgerichtet.

4. Anschließend wird das Innenzelt mit vier Heringen gesichert: zwei an der rechten Seite vom Zelt, ein Hering vorne an der Apsis und ein Hering hinten am Zelt. Das Innenzelt steht jetzt bereits sicher.

Das Innenzelt und die Zeltstange stehen jetzt bereits selbstständig und man kann den vollen Platz im Zelt nutzen. In warmen Sommernächten kann man auch nur im Innenzelt schlafen.

Aufbau Außenzelt:

• Das Außenzelt über das Innenzelt und die Zeltstangen legen und in der Mitte, am höchsten Punkt des Zelts, dass Außenzelt mit 2 Aluminium-Ösen an den Zeltstangen einhaken
• Das Außenzelt rechts unten am Zelt mit zwei Ösen einhaken und spannen
• Das Außenzelt links in die Zeltstange einhaken
• Vorne und hinten mit einem zusätzlichen Hering sichern. Hier hast Du fürs Innenzelt bereits Heringe in die Erde gesteckt – diese können in der Praxis auch verwendet werden

Weitere Aufbau-Schritte: Das Zelt kann bei Bedarf auch mit den Zeltschnüren abgespannt werden z.B. wenn starker Wind erwartet wird.

Für den vollständigen Zeltaufbau werden ca. 7 bis 10 Minuten benötigt.

Das Außenzelt ohne das Innenzelt lässt sich auch aufbauen, wenn man z.B. Gewicht sparen möchte. Bei Regen oder wenn man Gewicht sparen möchte, dann kann man auch ausschließlich das Außenzelt aufbauen.

Platzangebot & Komfort – Forclaz Trek 900 Erfahrungen

Lassen wir zuerst die Zahlen sprechen (Herstellerangaben laut Produktseite):

• Länge der Kabine (Innenzelt): 210 cm
• Breite der Kabine (Innenzelt): 60 cm
• Höhe der Kabine (Innenzelt): 95 cm
• Gesamthöhe des Zelt: 110 cm
• Breite der Apsis: ca. 70 cm

Soweit so gut. Was bedeutet das in der Praxis?

Das Platzangebot ist für ein Ultralight Zelt genau richtig: Beim Einpersonenzelt kann man auch eine große Isomatte komfortabel in das Zelt legen. Neben der Isomatte ist dann noch etwas Platz für Kleinkram. Ich lade hier gerne meine Elektrogeräte und entsprechend liegen dann Powebank, Smartphone und das Fahrrad GPS Navi neben der Isomatte im Zelt.

Oberhalb bzw. unterhalb der Isomatte ist ebenfalls noch reichlich Platz.

Dort lege ich meistens meine Wechselklamotten und eine kleine Tasche ab. Das funktioniert ganz wunderbar und ohne das die Zeltwände nach außen gedrückt werden.

Für mich mit 1,84 Meter Körperhöhe besitzt das Zelt auch die ideale Höhe und ich kann komfortabel aufrecht sitzen, ohne die Zeltdecke zu berühren.

Organisationsfächer gibt es beim Zelt auch einige: Am Kopfende gibt es ein grosses Fach für z.B. GPS Fahrradcomputer, Geldbeutel (hoffentlich ultralight 🙂 ) und weitere Ausrüstung.

An der Zeltdecke gibt es ebenfalls noch ein Organisationsnetz. Außerdem hat das Zelt mehrere Schlaufen und Plastikhaken für die Befestigung von z.B. einer Stirnlampe im Zelt. Dank der Organisationsmöglichkeiten ist die Ausrüstung ordentlich verstaut und dennoch schnell wieder griffbereit.

Was im Innenraum keinen Platz findet, wird vor dem Zelt verstaut: Dort gibt es eine breite Apsis mit reichlichem Platzangebot: Ich kann ganz locker meine vollständigen Bikepacking Taschen und jede Menge Zubehör untebrringen.

Offiziell bietet die Apsis Platz für einen 70 Liter Rucksack was gut hinkommen kann. Clever bei der Apsis: ein Teil besitzt eine integrierte Bodenplane , die den Inhalt gut vor Feuchtigkeit und Regen schützen sollte. Der andere Teil der Apsis besitzt keine Bodenplane. Dort kann man dann z.B. schmutzige Schuhe abstellen und verdreckt das Zelt nicht. Von oben ist der Inhalt dennoch geschützt.

Qualität und Stabilität

Auch das leichteste Ultraleicht Zelt soll natürlich lange haltbar sein. Was die Haltbarkeit angeht, sollte man auf folgende Faktoren besonders achten:

• Reisverschlüsse

Wie steht es um die Qualität dieser Faktoren beim Trek 900? Eins vorweg: Das Innenzelt und das Außenzelt selbst scheint mir robust und reißfest genug. Außerdem sind alle Nähte sauber verarbeitet. Beim Aufbau kann man auch kräftig am Zelt ziehen z.B. das Innenzelt spannen, ohne das etwas kaputt geht.

Für eine finale Bewertung der Qualität und Zuverlässigkeit ist es noch zu früh. Folgendes ist mein erster Eindruck. Wie steht es also um die wichtigen Faktoren?

Zeltgestänge: Die Zeltstangen sind vollständig aus Aluminium. Im inneren werden die Stangen durch eine Gummischnur zusammen gehalten. Ähnliche Konstruktionen haben sich auch bei anderen Zelten bewährt z.B. beim MSR Hubba NX . Zeltstangen und auch die Schnur scheinen robust. Zusammengebaut kann man die Alu-Stangen auch ordentlich biegen. Sehr gut. Für die Klipps am Innenzelt kommt robustes Plastik zum Einsatz und die Ösen sind aus stabilem Aluminium. Alles gut soweit.

Kritik gibt es für das Y-Verbindungsteil am Zelt Gestänge: Dieses tragende Elemente ist ebenfalls aus Plastik. Sollten diese Elemente brechen, dann kann man das Zelt nicht mehr aufbauen, bevor man das Teil entweder unterwegs provisorisch repariert oder die Stangen ersetzt.

Reisverschluss: Die beiden Zweiwege-Reißverschlüsse verrichten im Test zuverlässig ihren Dienst. Die Zipper haben jeweils eine kleine Schnur angebracht, sodass man sie schnell und komfortabel greifen kann.

Das Zelt ist so konstruiert, dass beim Öffnen und schließen nie zu viel Spannung auf dem Reißverschluss ist. Selbiges gilt für die Zipper am Außenzelt.

Zeltboden: Wie weiter oben beschrieben, besteht der Zeltboden aus Polyamid in 40D Stärke. Hinsichtlich Haltbarkeit und Gewicht wurde hier die richtige Materialwahl für ein Ultraleicht Zelt getroffen. Wie bei jedem Zelt empfehle ich die Verwendung einer zusätzlichen Bodenplane als Schutz für den Boden. Den passgenauen Footprint für das Forclaz Trek 900 gibt es bei Decathlon.

Sollte mal etwas kaputt gehen, dann gibt es für die wichtigen Teile Ersatz. Sehr gut gefällt mir, dass man die Ersatzteile bequem auf Decathlon.de nachbestellen kann. Zu kaufen gibt es z.B. das Außenzelt, Innenzelt und Teile vom Gestänge. Du findest die Ersatzteile direkt im Shop auf Decathlon.de, wenn Du nach “Trek 900” suchst.

Zusätzlich gibt es 5 Jahre Garantie auf das Zelt. Die Garantiebedingungen habe ich mir durchgelesen und diese klingen durchaus fair. Ein weiteres Plus.

Wetterfestigkeit (Wasserfest und Windfest)

Das Zelt ist hauptsächlich für die Monate Frühling, Sommer und den Herbst ausgelegt. Das zeigt sich ganz klar an der guten Belüftung und an der Materialauswahl:

• Das Innenzelt hat einen hohen Anteil an Moskitonetz. Das unterstützt die Durchlüftung
• Die Zeltwände vom Außenzelt sind recht weit hochgezogen (unterstützt ebenfalls die Durchlüftung
• Die Durchlüftung kann durch das Anziehen bzw. Lockern kleiner Riemen reguliert werden
• Es gibt nochmal einen großen Schlitz oben am Außenzelt für die Dachbelüftung

Die gewählten Materialien sorgen dafür, dass sich verhältnismäßig wenig Kondenswasser im inneren bildet. Die Durchlüftung im Zelt empfinge ich insgesamt als angenehm und richtig gewählt für ein Zelt dieser Art.

Die Durchlüftung im Innenzelt würde ich als sehr gut bezeichnen und gleichzeitig ist man vor starkem Wind geschützt. Beachtet werden sollte, dass das Y-Förmige Gestänge lediglich an drei Punkten im Innenzelt und eventuell der Bodenplane befestigt ist. Diese Art des Gestänges ist typisch für ein teilweise-freistehendes Zelt. Ist starker Wind zu erwarten, sollte man das Zelt daher auf jeden Fall zusätzlich abspannen.

Decathlon gibt die Windstabilität mit 60 km/h (16,67 Meter in der Sekunde, Windstärke 7) an und lies diesen Wert von einem unabhängigen Labor im Windkanal bestätigen.

Zwischen dem Innenzelt und dem Außenzelt gibt es reichlich Platz. Das sorgt für zusätzlich gute Durchlüftung. Außerdem sollte dadurch keine Feuchtigkeit vom Außenzelt bis durch das Innenzelt ins Zeltinnere dringen.

Eine übermäßige Bildung von Kondenswasser konnte ich nicht feststellen. Während meiner Testfahrt auf der Bikepacking Trans Germany Route , bin ich von heftigen Regenfällen verschont geblieben. Somit habe ich noch keine Praxiserfahrung zur Wasserfestigkeit des Decathlon Ultralight Zelt.

Meine Einschätzung zur Wasserfestigkeit: Um Eindringen von Wasser zu erschweren, wurden die Nähte des Forclaz Trek 900 versiegelt. Folgende Angaben macht Decathlon zur Wasserdichtigkeit des Trek 900:

• das Außenzelt wird mit > 2.000 mm und
• der Boden vom Innenzelt mit > 3.000 mm Wassersäule angegeben.

Decathlon gibt an, dass das Zelt im Labor bei Tropenregen-artigen Bedingungen getestet wurde. Doch was heißt das in der Praxis?

Mein MSR Hubba NX hat vergleichbare Werte bei der Wasserfestigkeit wie das Trek 900 Ultralight. Bei dem Zelt hatte ich noch nie Probleme, was eindringendes Wasser von außen angeht. Daher sehe ich dieses Thema sehr entspannt. Für die typischen Einsatzgebiete des Zeltes in Mitteleuropa sollte die Wassersäule locker ausreichen. Die Footprint-Bodenplane bietet zusätzlich nochmal > 3.000 mm Wassersäule.

Fazit – Trek 900 Testbericht Erfahrungen und Zusammenfassung

Das Forclaz Trek 900 Ultraleicht hat mich im Test begeistert: Es ist eines der günstigsten Ultralight Zelte und überzeugt gleichzeitig mit hoher Qualität.

Das Packmaß ist sehr gering und somit lässt sich das Zelt bestens in einer Bikepacking Lenkerrolle verstauen und findet auch in einem kleinen Trekkingrucksack Platz. Das Raumangebot ist angemessen – an Ultraleicht Standards gemessen würde ich sagen: Das Platzangebot ist genau richtig gewählt.

Ein weiterer Pluspunkt ist das geringe Gewicht von lediglich 1,3 Kilo. Wahre ultraleicht Anhänger können das Außenzelt auch zuhause lassen und sind in einer warmen Sommernacht dann mit lediglich federleichten 767 Gramm unterwegs.

Ja, dass Trek 900 ist lediglich teilweise-Selbsttragend. Das weiss sicher jeder Käufer, denn es steht im ersten Satz auf der Produktseite. In meinem Praxistest verwendete ich fast immer 4 Heringe, um festen Stand zu garantieren.

Der Zelt Aufbau geht ganz wunderbar fix und schnell. So wie ich mir das Wünsche. Ebenso ist das Zelt schnell wieder in den mitgelieferten Packsäcken verstaut und die Tour kann weitergehen.

Angeboten wird das Zelt in einer Farbe (Grau/Orange): Diese finde ich sehr schick aber natürlich ist man mit einer solchen Farbe nicht bestens getarnt im Wald. Ein Außenzelt in Grün als Farbvariante, wäre hier wünschenswert.

Glücklicherweise ist das Leichtgewicht für einen kleinen Preis zu haben.

Auf meiner Tour mit dem Zelt hatte ich sehr viel Spaß und freue mich auf weitere Touren mit dem Decathlon Zelt.

Forclaz Trek 900 kaufen – ja oder nein?

Hallo Michael, ich habe mir genau dieses Zeit gerade kommen lassen. (hört sich dekadent an 😉 , im Laden war es ausverkauft). Genau deshalb bin ich gerade auf deinen Blog gestoßen und habe deinen Bericht mit Begeisterung gelesen. Genau wie bei vielen anderen suchte ich ein leichtes Zelt, weil bei meine erste Tour eigentlich ALLES zu schwer war und ich abbrechen musste. Das zweite Zelt war ein weiterer Versuch, zumindest schonmal fast 500gr leichter, aaaaaber ich hatte die Sitzhöhe nicht in Betracht gezogen. Also nochmal ein anderes musste her. MSR? too much ixpensiv für mein Budget! ;( , gebraucht (?) kaum zu bekommen, immer noch zu teuer und ist es dann nicht schon zu alt, von wegen wasserdicht usw.::::

Also nochmal zu Decathlon und dann…… ÜBERRASCHUNG, ich hatte da schon einige Male nach den Zelten geschaut, aber dieses irgendwie übersehen ( i don´t know why) *grübel* ….. diesmal stand das im Hof und ich konnte es mir ansehen. Ich dachte noch: ach ja, gugg ma, die haben ein bezahlbares Ultraleicht, wo kommt das denn auf einmal her. Die Bewertungen gelesen und feststellen müssen, das gibt es wohl schon länger du Blindfisch 😉

Jetzt hab ich´s gekauft und bin erst mal überrascht, positiv wie negativ ( nur ein bisschen), zum einen es ist dunkler als ich es in Erinnung hatte, von wegen wild und so…. zum anderen: ich kann drin sitzen, was bei Regen und zwecks umziehen (bei Regen) schon vorteilhaft ist. grinzz Mein voriges war eine “Dackelgarage” da wäre nur liegen gegangen, glücklicherweise hat es auf meiner Tour NICHT geregnet und was super warm, daher war mir das Niedrige erst gar nicht bewusst. negativ insofern: ich war der Meinung das steht komplett auch alleine ohne abspannung, aber gut mir 4 Haken abspannen, damit werde ich leben können, im Preisvergleich mit dem MSR. Dabei wäre es so einfach am Fussende auch noch mal eine Stangengabelung ein zu bauen. hmmm?

Dein Bericht, mega hilfreich, auch wenn ich diesen vor dem Kauf gelesen hätte, ich hätt´s am Ende eh gekauft. Weil einfach günstig, leicht und vernüftigem Raumangebot im Vergleich.

Ps.: das Footprint dazu ist derzeit ausverkauft, aber ich besitze einen einfachen Poncho von Decathlon, den habe ich auch unter das vorige Zelt untergelegt, der ist auch so gross, dass man vor dem Zelt trockenen Boden hat.

Musste bei dem Begriff “Dackelgarage” schon sehr lachen 🙂 freut mich jedenfalls, dass dir das Zelt gefällt und dir deine Sommertour gut geglückt ist. Ich werde es kommendes Wochenende auf einer Herbsttour im Schwarzwald auch wieder benutzen.

Im ersten Satz auf der Produktseite von Decathlon steht übrigens, dass es “teilweise-selbsttragend” ist. Von vollständig freistehend ist dort nie die Rede. Aber ich kann dich beruhigen: Als ich das Trek 900 zum ersten Mal aufgebaut habe, war ich auch erstmal überrascht 🙂

Hallo Michael, danke erstmal für diesen Ausführlichen Testbericht. Ich bin bei der suche nach einem bezahlbaren 1 Personen Zelt nun auch bei Treck 900 gelandet. Beim ersten Indoor Probeaufbau natürlich ohne Heringe ist bei meinen 191cm nicht mehr viel Luft. Interessant wär auch wie lange die Kunststoff-Teile beim Gestänge halten, wie sehen die bei dir mittlerweile aus, bisher kannte ich nur Alu-Endstücke. Außen Aufbau mit Testschlafen kommt die Tage, leider gibt es den Footprint noch immer nicht zu kaufen es wäre schön wenn Decathlon bald liefern könnte, ich hoffe die lesen hier mit =;-) Zu meinen bisherigen 1 Personen Zelt konnte ich das Packvolumen nun um die hälfte reduzieren und beim Gewicht 0,5 kg einsparen. Wie Du schon gesagt hast: Wenn das Zelt abgespannt wird, dann hat man mehr Platz im Innenraum. Auch wenn das Zelt nicht abgespannt ist, steht es. Es ist dann allerdings sehr windanfällig und die Wände fallen etwas nach innen. Offiziell muss es abgespannt werden.

Die Kunststoffenden am Gestänge sind sehr robust. Da musst Du Dir wegen der Haltbarkeit keine Gedanken machen. Klar, sie verkratzen aber ich habe hier nach wie vor keine Bedenken bzgl. der Haltbarkeit.

Die Gummischnüre im inneren werden mit der Zeit dünner und irgendwann muss man sie ersetzen. Das ist bei Zelten bauartbedingt ein Thema. Auch hier sehen die Schnüre bei meinem Zelt aktuell noch sehr gut aus.

Beide Daumen sind für dich gedrückt, damit du den Footprint bald bekommst! Ansonsten hilft möglicherweise vorübergehend eine Bastellösung aus einer universellen Plane.

Hallo Michael, danke fürs Daumen drücken. Auf der Decathlon Seite kann man sich ja auf Benachrichtigung setzen lassen wenn der Footprint wieder lieferbar ist, hatte aber meinen Store in Hannover direkt angeschrieben und die teilten mir mit das es wieder einige oder sogar nur den einen gibt !! sofort bestellt und er ist geliefert. Bingo !! Auch das Zelt ist so gut wie vergriffen (2 in BS), ich hoffe Decathlon kann bald wieder liefern und vielen Outdoor-Freude bereiten. Die erste Test Nacht im Garten bei 6 Grad und Regen ist auch gut verlaufen, bin soweit mit dem Zeltchen zufrieden. Gruß Dirk

Hi Dirk, klasse Sache, dass Du das Zelt und den Footprint ergattern konntest! Wahrscheinlich wird die Liefersituation erstmal angespannt bleiben. Viele Leuten wollen gerade mehr nach draußen als jemals zuvor und kaufen entsprechend auch Outdoor-Ausrüstung.

Hallo Michael Nach deinen exzellenten Beschreibungen habe ich mich entschieden, das Zelt heute zu kaufen. Ich plane im Sommer, auf der Via Alpina den grünen Weg zu wandern, durch die Schweiz von Vaduz nach Montreux. Gleich habe ich es im Garten aufgestellt, was prima geklappt hat. Abräumen ging auch gut. Es ist wirklich extrem leicht, die Handhabung einfach, der Preis top! Ein Vermutstropfen ist allerdings, dass der Footprint momentan nicht erhältlich ist. Er soll frühestens ab 23. August wieder lieferbar sein, bis dann bin ich schon unterwegs. Ob es wohl eine andere Möglichkeit gibt, zu so einem Teil zu kommen? Second hand vielleicht? Gruss Monika

Hallo Monika, erstmal viel Spaß mit dem Zelt auf dem Via Alpina (grüner Weg)! Da hast Du Dir eine tolle Wanderung vorgenommen 🙂 Du kannst gerne second hand nach dem passenden Footprint schauen. Vermutlich wird es schwierig den Footprint gebraucht zu bekommen aber beiden Daumen sind gedrückt.

Du kannst natürlich auch selbst eine Folie kaufen und diese passend zuschneiden. Es ist zwar mit etwas Arbeit verbunden und Du hast dann keine Ösen um das Zelt mit dem Footprint fest zu haken aber die Bastellösung ist für ein paar Wochen okay.

Folgende Tipps kannst Du beachten: – Ein beliebtes Material ist das sehr leichte Tyvek. Du kannst auch eine andere Plane verwenden aber diese wird sicher schwerer und voluminöser sein als Tyvek. – Zelt auf die Plane legen und den Umriss mit z.B. Wasserfestem Stift nachmalen – Footprint ausschneiden – Wenn der Footprint etwas größer als Dein Zeltboden ist, dann wird sich bei Regen Wasser im Footprint sammeln und das Wasser dringt dann durch Deinen Zeltboden ins Zelt innerer! Da musst Du unbedingt aufpassen. – Manche gestalten den Footprint so, dass man ihn bei Regen unters Zelt einklappen kann. Ich würde ihn ein bis zwei Zentimeter kleiner als den Zeltumriss schneiden. – Für mehr Widerstandsfähigkeit kannst Du die Seitenränder umnähen. Das ist dann extra Arbeit und das musst Du bei den Abmessungen mit beachten. Wenn Du den selbstgemacht Footprint nur für ein paar Wochen benötigst halte ich das für zu viel des guten.

Da ich meine Footprints immer kaufe ist das jetzt theoretisches Wissen 😉 Du bekommst das sicher hin!

Ich bin auf der Suche nach einem preisgünstigen Bikepacking Zelt. Eine Sache könntest du mir vllt noch verraten, passt in deine Lenkertasche auch noch der Schlafsack, wenn du das Innen- und Außenzelt dort verstaut hast? Oder wo verstaust du deinen Schlafsack? Bisher bin ich nur mit minimalstem Setup unterwegs gewesen, also Biwi, Matte und Schlafsack in der Lenkertasche. In der Satteltasche dann Klamotten etc.

danke für dein Lob. In der Lenkerrollen transportiere ich meist Zelt, Isomatte, kurze Schlafhose und ein T-Shirt. Der Schlafsack (Sea to Summit Spark 2 bis ca. 0 Grad) kommt bei mir meist in die Satteltasche.

Möchtest Du nur Zelt und den Schlafsack in der Lenkerrollen verstauen? Das wird ganz locker rein passen. Da brauchst Du dir keine Gedanken machen.

Wenn zusätzlich eine Isomatte mit in die Lenkerrolle soll dann würde noch ein Sommerschlafsack bis ca. 10 Grad mit in die Lenkerrolle passen.

Ein Klasse Beitrag zum Zelt! Ich bin auch auf der Suche einem neuen Zelt. Ich besitze im Momentan das Jack Wolfskin Gossamer 1 Personen Zelt. Ich bin mit dem Zelt eigentlich sehr zufrieden. Jedoch was mich stört, ist dass man drin nicht sitzen kann. Somit würde ich gerne ein neues Zelt anschaffen. Das MSR ist mir etwas zu Teuer. Somit bin ich auf der Zelt gestoßen. ABER! Jetzt der eine Punkt, der mich sehr zum Grübeln bringt. Laut den Abmessungen vom Zelt, hat man nur 60cm breite?! So breit ist die ISO Matte die benutze. Ich bin auch 190cm groß und etwas Kräftiger gebaut. Ich fülle die Komplette ISO Matte aus wenn ich auf dem Rücken liege. Das Jack Wolfskin ist 80cm Breit (Die MSR haben 76cm/84cm). Da hab ich natürlich auch sehr viel Platz zum drehen und um Sachen zu verstauen. Wie ist deine Meinung zu der Breite? Viele Grüße Sebastian

Hi Sebastian, erstmal Danke! Du sprichst berechtigte Punkte an: Aufrecht sitzen ist in dem Zelt für die meisten Personen ganz gut möglich. Bei mir mit 1,84 funktioniert das wunderbar. Mit 190 Körpergröße kannst Du Dich sicher recht komfortabel im Zelt bewegen, aber vollständig aufrecht sitzen, ohne das Zelt mit dem Kopf zu berühren, geht eher nicht. Die Breite im Innenraum beträgt schon etwas mehr als 60 cm.

Die Fotos im Testbericht sind mit einer Sea to Summit Ultralight Mat entstanden. Die Matte hat die Maße (183 x 55 cm – Regular).

Auf der einen Seite liegt die Matte so, dass ich komfortabel die ganze Isomatte nutzen kann, ohne die Zeltwand zu berühren. Auf der Seite des Zelteingangs kann ich dann noch ein paar kleine Gegenstände ablegen (Powerbank, Smartphone etc.). Das siehst Du ja auch auf einem der Fotos.

Wenn Deine Isomatte breiter ist als die besagten ca. 55 cm, dann hast Du links und rechts keinen Platz mehr für Gegenstände. Es gibt ja noch die Netztasche und vielleicht ist am Kopfteil oder am Fußteil noch etwas Platz für kleine-Ausrüstung.

Hallo Michael, erstmal 1000 Dank für diese super ausführliche Beschreibung. Ich hätte trotzdem noch ne Frage. Ich habe ein sehr kleines Rennrad und habe am Lenker nur 35cm Platz, um etwas zu verstauen. Du schreibst ja, dass das Zelt 39cm breit ist, somit würde es da nicht hinpassen. Die Frage ist nur, ob es sich z.B. in dieser Fronttasche von Topeak https://bikepacking-adventures.com/go/topeak-frontloader-rose nicht doch evtl noch etwas komprimieren ließe? Ist das die Fronttasche, die Du auch hast? Weißt Du, ob ich das Zelt zusammen bzw in dieser Fronttasche auf 35cm zusammenquetschen könnte? Wäre Dir für eine Einschätzung mega dankbar! Hi Kathrin, immer gerne 😉 danke für dein Lob! Ja, die Topeak-Fronttasche ist genau die, die ich auch habe. Bin immer noch sehr zufrieden damit – siehe auch mein Topeak Bikepacking Taschen Test .

Hier mal meine Gedanken zu deinem Thema: Das Packmaß vom Zelt ist 39 × 11 × 10 cm. Genauso wie ich es hier im Testbericht schreibe. Habe das Zelt gerade mal rausgeholt und den Packsack etwas komprimiert. Du bekommst ihn locker auf ca. 22 x 12 x 12 oder 22 x 13 x 13 komprimiert. Das ist nicht das große Thema. Der Topeak Harness hat übrigens eine Breite von 27 cm. Den bekommst du auch zwischen deinen Rennrad-Lenker. Die Lenkerrolle muss dann weit eingerollt werden, aber das Tragesystem sollte soweit funktionieren.

Jetzt kommt der Knackpunkt: Das Zeltgestänge hat eine Länge von ca. 37 cm! Und das Gestänge kannst du natürlich nicht komprimieren. Es passt somit auch nicht zwischen deinen Lenker. Das Gestänge muss also anderweitig transportiert werden. Entweder in der Satteltasche, was ich für nicht optimal halte, da das Gestänge für die Satteltasche eigentlich zu lang ist. Oder Du überlegst dir eine Lösung mit einem kleinen und leichten Gepäckträger und schnallst das Gestänge oben auf den Gepäckträger.

An einen Gravellenker oder einen geraden MTB-Lenker passt das Gestänge super. Bei einem normalen Rennrad-Lenker muss man sich eine andere Lösung überlegen.

Moin Michael, du hast in deinem Testbericht geschrieben, dass auch größere Isomatten Platz drin finden. Meine Isomatte hat die Maße: Oberkörper 76cm breite und am Fußende knappe 60 cm breite. Würde ich die Isomatte problemlos hineinbekommen oder wölbt sie sich?

Moin Kai, 76 cm Breite am Oberkörper ist leider zu viel des guten. Das Zelt hat im Bereich des Oberkörpers eine Breite von 60 cm und im Fußbereich eine Breite von ca 50 cm. Das sind die Herstellerangaben und das trifft auch ganz genau so zu.

Meine Isomatte hat eine Breite von 55cm und dort habe ich entsprechend an der Seite noch etwas Platz. Isomatten mit ca. 64 cm Breite passenn auch noch ganz gut ins Zelt. Ein Bekannter nutzt eine 64 cm breite Isomatte mit dem Forclaz Trek 900 und ist damit zufrieden.

Das Trekkingzelt von der Decathlon-Eigenmarke Forclaz ist für Trekkingtouren im Frühling, Sommer oder Herbst geeignet. Laut Herstellerangabe ist es leicht zu transportieren und dennoch komfortabel. Vom Typ her ist es ein Kuppelzelt mit Doppel-Y-Struktur. Es sind zwei separate Eingänge vorhanden, während drei Apsiden für Stauraum für alle Insassen sorgen. Der Test von Trekking-Magazin lobt den schnellen Aufbau und das Platzangebot für Gepäck. Ab einer Körpergröße von etwa 1,90 m kann es laut Test in dem Zelt aber eng werden. Die Belüftung des Außenzeltes wird als gut beschrieben und der Stand auch bei Wind als sicher. I bought this tent 3 years ago for my motorcycle. The 3 seats are ideal for 2 plus the equipment under the apses. Used in summer plus winter, it is very practical and spacious. I recommend.

The tent is very good, it is very compact, very easy to set up. I tested it on a trip recently, in rain and wind, it responded very well.

We bought this tent whilst cycling through South America after our MT900 finally failed after 6 months of heavy use (would highly recommend this one!), but sadly this one didn't even last 6 weeks! Essentially it's a good tent, easy to erect and take down, good size for two people, maybe a squeeze for 3. The first time we had a heavy downpour, the side of the tent leaked and so my kit was wet in the morning. Then the zip very quickly failed on one side, a few weeks later the zip on the other side failed. By now we were in Patagonia and it was pretty cold at night with both sides of the tent open! We got in touch with Decathlon and were told we couldn't return it once we were back in the UK, we would have to return it to the shop we bought it from - Santiago, Chile! Clearly wasn't worth doing this as by the time we'd paid for flights we would have been better off buying a new tent! So not really happy with the overall customer service received, which is a shame as generally we really rate Decathlon products.

it's OK, light, easy to set up, perfect for a bicycle trip (and not only).

Excellent backpacking tent for three people, but only used as a couple! Sufficient interior space and space for a backpack at both entrances to the tent. Lightweight and easy to assemble. Interesting details, inside there is a cord on which you can hang a t-shirt for example. Very, satisfied, I recommend!

I fully recommend this tent for a high altitude expedition i used this in Yunam peak, Friendship peak, UT Kangri, Mentok Kangri, Mount Thugchy, and Kangyatse 2.

He has been using it with his motorbike for 3 years. Great product for travel. Comfortable and robust. I often caught storms and never a drop of water inside. Perfect zips, maybe a little damp but why do you have to open the windows. It is not afraid of rain and wind. It weighs little and fits inside a motorcycle tank bag. In 6 minutes you can assemble it, disassemble and fold it just as quickly. What can I say if it isn't fantastic

Easy to use, minimal comfort but good for 2, the protected space for shoes is a plus. Consider an additional insulating film underneath

I used the tent with my family during a holiday trip. Advantages: low weight and small volume of the cover, well-thought-out method of unfolding, two entrances providing good ventilation, double zipper at the entrances, pockets inside the flysheet. Disadvantage: during light rainfall at night, the tent floor got wet in the morning. I propose to the manufacturer to improve the quality of the floor material.

We camped at 10-15 C in two different places at the end of September and at the beginning of October. It is very convenient and warm, the 180*220 interior space fit 2 adults and 2 children comfortably, there is even room for our bags, I requested for the ground mat of the tent, I hope they will bring it.

I bought this tent 3 years ago using it every summer. But this summer, the hoops broke one after the other. First there was a break that I was able to repair with the repair kit (ferrule) then 3 days later, 2 other hoop breaks! Broken in the middle of a windless day, tent still up and still. After a lot of patience while trying to limit tears in the canvas with the sharp ends of the broken poles, the result of the detailed observation is the following: 3 completely broken poles and 8 cracked poles (from the very small crack to the crack clean that just needs to be broken). While roaming, I was lucky enough to be able to go to a decathlon where the department manager was able to find me single rods on sale + after-sales service rods to recreate a hoop of the right length (the hoop kit not being in stock). 2 weeks later, the old recomposed hoop with uncracked rods broke in the same way! In the middle of a windless day with the tent stationary... So I bought the pole kit for €25 to have a second "new" pole. (Besides, the length is not the right one for the tent, I had to remove the ends provided and make a knot + piece of plastic to block the elastic). 3 weeks later, the "first" new hoop (rings alone + after-sales service rod) broke in one place. I was able to repair it temporarily with the ferrule I had kept + tape to prevent it from slipping. And last week the small transverse arch broke in turn. I am very disappointed with these experiences. I would like to think that my hoops had a defect, but the problem repeated itself on new hoops after a few weeks of use. So, unfortunately, I come to the conclusion that the hoops are not durable. A big user of Decathlon Forclaz products, I remain convinced by the quality and durability of many products, but not the poles of these tents.

I've used several tents, but I liked the size and durability. I wanted to see the model in person and purchase it. There was a 2-seater model on display at Hanam Starfield, so I consulted with them about the size being a little smaller. I don't know their name, but I would like to praise the foreign employee for responding kindly even though he was busy. I like the tent.

Pitching/striking

Extremely quick pitching/striking. The flysheet and bedroom are pre-assembled. You then need to insert the tent pole in the sleeves of the flysheet (color code). It is also quick to strike.To store the tent in its bag, just fold up the tent until it is as wide as the bag, fold up the tent poles into a bundle, and place them on the bedroom or the flysheet, and roll everything up into a small bundle to fit it all in the bag.

Waterproofing

Forclaz tents are laboratory-tested: pitched tent, 200 liters/m²/hour (4 hours, equivalent to a tropical storm). They are also tested in the field by a sample user group.75 denier polyester flysheet, polyurethane-coated (interior) water-repellent treatment (exterior), P75D groundsheet in the bedroom.Seams taped with heat-sealed strips.Multicomponent bedroom (P66D) that is breathable, provides protection from the wind, and reduces condensation.

Wind-resistance

We test all our tents in a wind tunnel on a turntable where we can expose each side of the tent to the wind.To test its wind-resistance, the tent must be properly pitched, taut but not stretched, with all the guy ropes in position around the tent. It should remain habitable at wind speeds of 45 mph, measured near ground level.Our tents are certified by the CSTB independent laboratory in Nantes.

Ventilation and condensation prevention

Bedroom with mosquito net sections for ventilation and water-repellent fabric sections to protect from condensation and drafts. Large vent at front of tent and additional vent at feet end.To reduce condensation inside your tent, it must be properly pitched, with the fabric kept taut without being overstretched. Vents and good air flow will help reduce humidity inside your tent.

3-season tent: Your tent will protect you from the harsh weather conditions you can encounter in the spring, summer, or autumn. It will withstand light snowfall but is not designed to withstand heavy loads that would weigh on the structure.In case of snow, remember to shake your tent regularly in order to bring down any snow that has accumulated to avoid putting too much weight on the structure of your tent.

Product testing

The waterproof rating of the Forclaz tents is validated by placing a pitched tent under 200 L/m²/h shower of water (tropical rain) for 4 hours, and checking that no water passes through the seams, flaps, openings, zippers, etc. The water column test (= mm Schmerber) measures the waterproof rating of the fabric.We test all our tents in a wind tunnel, on a rotating table to check all 4 sides.We also perform tests on the components (abrasion, tearing, perforation, etc.)

Forclaz MT900 Minimal Editions trekking pole tarp tent: first impressions

The Forclaz MT900 Minimal Editions trekking pole tarp tent is a super-lightweight and easy-to-pitch trekking pole tent from outdoor powerhouse Decathlon. Designed to be lightweight and intuitive to use, this one-person tent (there’s also a two-person tent version available for £179.99) doesn’t come with any built-in support poles itself, but instead relies on the user mounting the fly over trekking poles (or similar), which helps to keep total packed weight down and reduces the pack size – especially if you’re using trekking poles on your trip anyway.

Available in just one color – an almost shocking white – the tent has been designed from the ground up to be as simple, lightweight and environmentally friendly as possible. In fact, by removing dyes entirely from the manufacturing process, Decathlon claim to have reduced the MT900’s CO2 emissions by up to 18%. The result is a straightforward and stripped-back shelter that’s void of any bells and whistles whatsoever – and one that’s very easy to spot in most landscapes, unless you’re camping in winter whiteout conditions.

Weighing in under a kilogram, the tent is incredibly lightweight, and thanks to the fact that there are no long support poles to pack (the type you’d normally get with a tunnel or dome-stye tent), the pack size is also tiny. Seriously, this packs down to about the same size as the Big Agnes Three Wire Hooped Bivy , yet the MT900 still comes with bags of room inside – plenty for one person and gear – and only costs an incredible £129.99 in the UK. 

While any metric regarding the tent’s weight are super impressive, however, you mustn’t forget that you need poles. If you’re the type of hiker or fastpacker that would use them anyway, then – great! Two birds, one stone. But if you would only pack poles purely for the purpose of putting up this tent, you might be better served by looking at other options, such as a bivy tent like the Big Agnes Three Wire Hooped Bivy or the Outdoor Research Helium , or another similarly lightweight and packable tent like the Robens Chaser 1 . 

Forclaz MT900 Minimal Editions trekking pole tarp tent: in the wild

I tested the tent on several occasions out on Dartmoor National Park in England. Twice I used it on a school night where I didn’t walk a huge distance from the car, then I used it on one final trip with a friend where we walked around 15km across the moor, camping in some light rain and wind. 

Each time the tent impressed, being easy to put up, a cinch to take down, performing well in the wind and rain and packing down so small that I was able to get my pack size down smaller than ever before – everything fitted into a sub-30L pack. The most impressive thing has to be the price, though: whenever I used it, I had to constantly remind myself that this thing costs less than many hiking pants , which continued to surprise me almost as much as the color. 

While we’re on the subject of color, let’s talk about the elephant in the room. This tent is white. Toilet bowl white. To the degree that it made me feel almost sterile, like I was sitting in a hospital waiting room. But I’m not sure whether that’s down to the bold choice, or purely down to the fact that I’m not used to seeing such striking silhouettes of white sticking up from behind a muddy tor. Either way, it took some getting used to, but I praise Decathlon for being one of the first brands to do away with dyeing fabrics for the sake of preference and going with such a ‘loud’ choice. 

And once it’s up, it’s a tent like any other. It can get quite bright inside, so it might not be a great choice if you plan on going to bed before the sun sets, and it did seem to attract an ungodly amount of insects (which may be down to how bright this tent glows when there’s a headlamp on inside). But the muck it inevitably picked up out on Dartmoor didn’t really make any difference; aside from a few patches of dirt, it stayed mostly toilet-bowl white. 

Inside the tent, there is a ton of room, especially when you consider how small this thing packs down. The vestibule is fairly generous, offering you plenty of space to store kit and to cook (in good conditions), and the inner gives you more than enough space to roll around, to unpack the essentials and to even sit up. Again, for a tent weighing below 1kg and costing £129.99, I think you’ll struggle to find another that checks so many boxes – as long as you’re happy to take trekking poles. 

For comparison, consider the Lanshan 1 , one of the most renowned tents in recent years and one that is very similar to the MT900 Trekking Pole Tent. They weigh almost the exact same (910g versus 920g), yet the MT900 offers more liveable room inside thanks to the fact that it’s pitched with two trekking poles instead of one. The MT900 also comes with two raised corners, which make the tent feel substantially more stable than the Lanshan and seem to do a better job at keeping you safe and comfortable (and confident in the tent’s performance) in windy and rainy conditions. 

In fact, the only downside I noted when using this tent was the fact that the zip on the vestibule only goes in one direction. This might be down to weight saving in an effort to keep the tent very minimal, yet while the inner door comes with two zips, the vestibule can only be opened from the bottom in one direction. This prevents you from cooking in the vestibule in rainy or windy conditions. 

Seemingly based on concerns from the wild camping community, Decathlon also retroactively wind-tested the MT900 and proved its strength in winds of up to 70km/h. While this isn’t huge – the Robens Chaser 1 can comfortably withstand over double that, for example – it should be ample for the types of conditions you’ll face if you camp sensibly and out of the wind, and avoid using it on top of summits or on any exposed ground through the winter. In my experience, it actually does a much better job in the wind that you’d likely give it credit for at first glance, and it certainly outperforms any expectations you might have based on its low price.

Overall, I really enjoyed using the Forclaz MT900 Minimal Editions trekking pole tent. It outperformed my expectations based on the price and design, and proved to be a very comfortable shelter once I got used to the striking white fly sheet. Easy to pitch, a cinch to pull drum tight and performing well in wind or rain, it’s an outstanding three-season backpacking tent that can comfortably be used on any trips where you’d plan on taking trekking poles anyway, be that thru-hikes, fastpacking trips or multi-day treks.

For those not familiar with how the Decathlon code of quality works (because the company do not make it particularly clear), when you’re looking at a product made and badged beneath one of their many home brands, such as Forclaz, the higher the MT number is, the more advanced and high-spec the item of gear is.

The highest designation possible is MT900, so we know that the Decathlon / Forclaz product developers rate the Forclaz Trek MT900 10°C sleeping bag highly, but do we at T3 agree?

Decathlon say they design and test their outdoor gear and camping equipment in the French Alps – I used to be a bit sceptical about this until I personally visited the Decathlon Mountain Headquarters and saw the design and testing process happening with my own eyes. It’s legit. 

But still, I didn’t see this particular item getting stress tested, and so I have subsequently been putting a Forclaz Trek MT900 10°C sleeping bag through its paces to see whether it would live up to all its promises and to assess whether it was truly worth its inclusion in our guide to the best lightweight sleeping bags available on the market right now. Read on to learn my findings.

Decathlon Forclaz Trek MT900 10°C Sleeping Bag review: design and build

The Forclaz Trek MT900 family includes both down and synthetic-filled bags of various thicknesses and weights, with a range of temperature ratings. One thing I really like about these top-end Forclaz sleeping bags is that they take the numerical part of their name from the ‘comfort’ rating of the bag (in this case, 10°C), which is by far the best way to judge a sleeping bag’s suitability for use, rather than using the ‘extreme’ or ‘limit’ rating – a cunning trick played by some brands.

Nights spent at extremes and on the limit are generally utterly uncomfortable and sleepless, so I think it’s disingenuous – dangerous even – for brands to put those figures in the name of their products. Well done, Decathlon, for putting honesty ahead of marketing. The following is a review of the one-season Forclaz Trek MT900 10°C down bag, which we tested over two months.

Designed to be as lightweight and compressible as possible, while remaining capable of offering thermal protection to campers when required, the Forclaz Trek MT900 10°C sleeping bag is available in four separate sizes, so you can choose exactly the right length for you, and not carry any additional bulk or weight whatsoever.

The fill is comprised of 90% grey duck down and 10% grey duck feather lining (all RDS-certified), which offers excellent loft (800 CUIN) for very little weight penalty. This bag is lovely and light, extremely comfortable and – perhaps most importantly – incredibly compressible, so you can fit it into packs without maxing out all your storage space. When they are not in use, it’s best to store down bags in an expansion bag (instead of keeping them all scrunched up, which would impact the condition and performance of the down) and the Forclaz Trek MT900 10°C comes with a large fabric bag for this purpose, alongside the compression sack.

The Forclaz Trek MT900 10°C is a mummy-shaped sleeping bag, which means it is wider at the shoulders than at the feet, offering wriggle room where it’s required while cutting down on the ‘dead space’ inside the bag, so your body warms the interior air quicker and more efficiently. The anatomical hood fits around your head snuggly, further reducing that dead space (although some people may find this a bit claustrophobic). If you do get too hot, the double zip means you can ventilate the bag without completely undoing it.

Like all down sleeping bags, one of the major, er, downsides is that performance rapidly drops away if you get it wet, with dramatic loss of loft as the fill clumps up. The Forclaz Trek MT900 10°C has a Polyamide shell that is water repellant (but not waterproof), and, so far as I can see, the down has not been given a hydrophobic coating, which is something you find in more expensive bags.

I have used the Forclaz Trek MT900 10°C down sleeping bag in numerous different scenarios, from wild camps as spring was beginning to segue into early summer and the evenings and mornings were still chilly, to a warm weekend camping at an outdoor-pursuits festival just before the summer solstice.

On test, I found that the comfort temperature rating of 10°C (50°F) is genuinely reflective of the thermal protection offered by this bag (if anything, it’s quite conservative), noting that I was using a camping mat with an R-value of at least 2.5 at all times, and a good tent with a three-season rating.

This, of course, is not a three-season sleeping bag, and it doesn’t pretend to be. The Forclaz Trek MT900 10°C is a one-season bag, with that season being summer. But even during the warmest months of the year, the pre-dawn hours often get pretty chilly, and this is when you really appreciate the generous loft of a good down bag like this.

Each time I used it, I was able to regulate my heat pretty easily while ensconced in this sleeping bag, by either running the zipper right up to the hood when it was a bit colder, or utalising the double zip to let some cooler air in, or poke a foot out when things got a bit too warm.

I do, however, have mixed feelings about the anatomical hood on the Forclaz Trek MT900 bags. On the one hand it facilitates efficient use of space and material, helping to keep pack size and weight low and adding some warmth when needed. On the other, I think it can feel pretty claustrophobic. Having the bag zipped up tight around your face and head is a bit different to pulling a roomier hood in with a cord, and it’s harder to operate (and release yourself) once you’re in there – sometimes it feels like you have to be Houdini to get out of this bag, which can be a bit panicky. It also makes it tricky to use a camping pillow in conjunction with the bag, even an improvised one comprised of the stuff sack filled with some clothes, because there’s so little room to fit it in.

For many backpackers and bikepackers – especially the weight-conscious ones the Forclaz Trek MT900 range is aimed at – compatibility with a pillow will be very low on their priority list, however, and in the kind of conditions the 10°C version of the bag is designed for use in, you are very rarely going to need to have the hood zipped fully up. Over all, I’ve been very impressed with this sleeping bag.

If you’re on a budget but you’re keen to go backpacking or get into bikepacking during the summer, the Forclaz Trek MT900 10°C down sleeping bag could be a perfect option for you. It’s inexpensive but offers a really impressive weight-to-warmth ratio, and it’s one of the most packable bags we’ve come across. The build quality is impressive, the bag is robust, and like all Decathlon products, it has a two-year warranty.

Another excellent down bag designed for summer conditions is the Alpkit PipeDream 200 , which costs a bit more, but will keep you warm at lower temperatures for less weight. If you’re looking for a sleeping bag that can keep you comfortable in considerably colder conditions, check out the more expensive Forclaz Trek MT900 0°C Down Bag (retailer link).

If you’re vegan or worried about down losing its power when wet, then have a look at the very cheap Trekking Sleeping Bag MT500 5°C (retailer link), which is filled with Polyester. Another synthetic sleeping bag with a comparable comfort rating to the Forclaz Trek MT900 is the Robens' Icefall Pro 300 , but be aware that synthetic-fill sleeping bags are not as lightweight as down bags, and they can not be compressed as small.

Architecture, arches and sardines :

Assembly / assembly :

• The flysheet and the bedroom are separate. Assembly is therefore done in a traditional way: the room, placed on the floor, is clipped onto the arches. We then come to cover the whole with the flysheet. Adjust the tensions.
• If necessary, the room can be dismantled from the inside.
• A color code on the hoop, the room and the flysheet allows an intuitive assembly.
• In case of rain, to mount the flysheet first, you will need the compatible floor mat (ref 8545723).

Imperm abilit :

• Forclaz tents are validated in the laboratory: pitched tent, 200 liters / meter / hour (4 hours, the equivalent of tropical rain). They are also tested by a panel of users in the field.
• 20 denier polyester flysheet (PES) and 40D polyamide (PA) floor mats are in coated polyurethane (inside) and silicone (outside).
• Taped seams with iron-on strips.
• Multi-component chamber combining breathability, wind protection and limitation of condensation.

Wind resistance :

• Are tested, all tents in a wind tunnel, in a wind tunnel on a turntable, to expose each side of the tent to the wind.
• In order to guarantee its resistance to wind, the tent must be well pitched, stretched without excess, with all the shrouds well deployed around the tent. Thus it will remain habitable with a wind speed measured at 60 km / h near the ground.
• Our tents are certified by the independent laboratory during CSTB Nantes.

Ventilation and condensation limitation :

• Room in mosquito net for ventilation and in water-repellent fabric to protect from condensation and drafts. There are 2 large top vents, which you can close using a scratch.
• In order to limit condensation inside the tent, it must be properly pitched, canvas stretched, without excess. Double-slider zips on the door to keep it open. The use of ventilation and good air circulation limit the humidity inside.
• 3 season tent: your tent will protect you from the difficult weather conditions that you would encounter in spring, summer or fall. It will support small snowfall but is not designed to withstand large loads that could be on the structure.
• In the event of snow, remember to regularly shake your tent in order to make the accumulation of snow fall on the ground and to avoid putting too much weight on the structure of your tent.

Eco design tent :

• The arch is colored thanks to an innovative anodization which eliminates the use of nitric and phosphoric acids.
• Your sardines can have a "raw" or "used" appearance but they retain all their technical characteristics and resistance; they are non-colored because not anodized (no use of acid which only has an aesthetic interest).
• These actions help limit the environmental impact of your product.

Khabarovsk Krai occupies a long swathe of Russia's Pacific coastline, a full 2000 kilometers of it, going as far south as Sakhalin and north to Magadan Oblast . At nearly 800.000 km², it's Russias fourth largest province. In the north, taiga and tundra prevail, deciduous forests in the south, and swampy forests in the central areas around Nikolaevsk-on-Amur . As a testament to its size there are more than 50 thousand lakes to fish in, more rivers and streams than you would care to count, and several mountain ranges intersect the region, including the northern reaches of the Sikhote-Alin mountains shared with Primorsky krai. The highest point is Mount Bery, towering nearly in fact, three quarters of the area is occupied by mountains and plateaus.

Biodiversity [ edit ]

The diversity of purely North animals like brown bear and sheer South representatives like Eastern softshell spiny turtle (Trionix) is backed by the legend that God would mix the rest of seeds and animals when somebody told him about missing spot on Earth.

One can encounter pine-tree and wild Far-Eastern grape which came definitely from the South. Its blue round berries with sour taste are cultivated in gardens to produce home wine.

Like Trionix many species are listed in the Red Book.

Aboriginal culture within small enclaves across the krai are Nanai, Ulchi, Manchur, Orochi, Udege, Negidal, Nivkhi, Evenki and varies in each settlement.

Khabarovsk is a major transportation hub for the entire Russian Far East and will likely be any visitor's first stop by either the Trans-Siberian Railway or via Khabarovsk's international airport ( KHV  IATA ).

From China there are two entrance routes: one begins on the border with the Heihe - Blagoveshchensk crossing point, the other from Fuyuan town on Amur river. Another possible way is one from Sakhalin, where international ferry operates between Russian Korsakov and Japan's Wakkanai . A one-night bus trip along the federal highway Vladivostok-Khabarovsk is an option for a traveller, if the train carriage by some odd reason is not preferable.

Fishing and hunting in the wild are the major attractions for local villagers, town and city dwellers as well as trekking routes to taiga plains and mountains untouched by humans are favourite activities for all sorts of tourists. Khabarovsk and Komsomolsk mountain bike clubs are all at it. Taiga forest roads are always abuzz with mosquitos in summer and the best seasons for visiting are May and September when the air is not so stifling and the sun is just warm. Winter attracts regional skiers and snowboarders to the ski bases "Holdomi" and "Amut Snow Lake" near Komsomolsk and "Spartak" slopes near Khabarovsk.

Local food follows traditional Russian cuisine featured with salted bracken, mushrooms, Korean and Chinese and even European dishes served in theme restaurants of two big cities. Don't forget to taste pancakes with a spoonful of linden, wildflower, buckweat honey or a season caviar stuffing.

Stay safe [ edit ]

Snakes and bears are rare attackers in the wild, lest provoked. More dangerous are infectious ticks which are active most of all in spring. Use spray against ticks.

Khabarovsk is the hub for regional air travel with important flights to Russian destinations Anadyr , Irkutsk , Krasnoyarsk , Magadan , Moscow , Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky , Yakutsk , and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk , as well as international flights to Niigata , Japan and to Seoul , Korea . There are no direct flights to/from the US .

The next major stops to the east on the Trans-Siberian Railway are Ussuriysk and Vladivostok ; to the west, Birobidzhan .

There is a regular ferry from Vanino (the terminus of the Baikal-Amur Mainline ) to Kholmsk , Sakhalin .

History of Khabarovsk

Foundation of khabarovsk.

Until the mid-19th century, the territory of present-day Khabarovsk, in accordance with the Nerchinsk Treaty, was located on a neutral territory, not delimited between the Qing Empire (China) and the Russian Empire. In 1858, the Aigun Treaty was signed, according to which the entire left bank of the Amur River passed into the possession of the Russian Empire, the right bank of the Amur to the Ussuri River became part of China.

After signing the treaty, the 13th Siberian Line Battalion was sent to establish settlements along the Amur. One of the new settlements was named Khabarovka - in honor of Yerofey Khabarov, a 17th-century Russian explorer known for his attempts to colonize this region for Russia. In 1864, the first plan for the development of the future town was made. By 1865, there were 1,294 residents in Khabarovka - mostly soldiers and officers.

Initially, only military buildings were constructed in Khabarovka. Five years after the foundation, there were already 167 buildings in the settlement including the house of the commander, barracks, warehouses, residential buildings, and trading shops. Due to its very convenient location at the confluence of the Amur and Ussuri rivers, Khabarovka began to develop very quickly.

Following the military settlers, civilians began to arrive from all parts of the Russian Empire including Moscow and St. Petersburg. At that time, their main occupations were hunting, fur trade, and fishing. The settlers were provided with free fertile land, which also contributed to the influx of new residents to Khabarovka.

Khabarovsk - a regional center of the Russian Far East

In 1873, the first elementary school was opened in Khabarovka. The Russo-Chinese treaty of 1881 allowed duty-free trade in the 50-kilometer land border zone and the goods of Chinese and English manufacturers could be bought half cheaper here.

By 1880, Khabarovka was already a rather large settlement of Primorsky Oblast with a population of 2,036 people (47.3% - military, 23% - bourgeois, 21.3% - foreigners (mainly Chinese workers), 1.4% - representatives of the indigenous population, and 7% - officers, clergy, merchants, industrialists).

At that time, the capital of Primorsky Oblast was Nikolayevsk (today’s Nikolayevsk-on-Amur), but Khabarovka had a more advantageous geographical position, as it was located at the crossroads of all communication lines from Vladivostok and the coast. In 1880, Khabarovka became the center of Primorsky Oblast and transformed into a town. In 1893, the town was renamed Khabarovsk.

In 1894, the Amur (Khabarovsk) department of the Russian Geographical Society was created with a museum (the Khabarovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore) and a library. In 1895, the first vocational technical school was opened - the railway school of the Ministry of Railways. During these years, a lot of stone houses were built in Khabarovsk. Most of them are preserved in the city to this day.

In 1897, the first train departed from the Khabarovsk railway station. The Ussuri Railway connected Khabarovsk with Vladivostok. The population of the town was about 14,900 people.

Khabarovsk in the 20th century and beyond

In 1916, the construction of a railway bridge over the Amur was completed and Khabarovsk was connected by the Amur Railway with Eastern Siberia.

November 14, 1922, after the liquidation of the Far Eastern Republic, Khabarovsk became part of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. On December 6, 1923, the administrative center of the Russian Far East was transferred to Khabarovsk from Chita. In 1925, the railway bridge over the Amur was restored.

On January 4, 1926, Far Eastern Krai was formed with its center in Khabarovsk. The population of the city was about 52 thousand people. On October 23, 1934, the Far Eastern Agricultural Research Institute was established in Khabarovsk. In 1936, Khabarovsk was connected by rail with Komsomolsk-on-Amur.

By 1939, the population of Khabarovsk increased to 200 thousand people. From June 1940, the command of the Far Eastern Front was deployed in Khabarovsk. From August 1945, the headquarters of the High Command of Soviet Forces in the Far East and the command of the 1st Far Eastern Front were stationed in the city.

On March 16, 1946, the Khabarovsk Drama Theater was created. In 1949, a trial was held in Khabarovsk in the case of former members of the Japanese Kwantung Army. The most significant changes in the city occurred in the post-war decades.

In 1960, the Khabarovsk television studio began broadcasting. On October 24, 1964, the Khabarovsk Shipyard produced the first “Rocket”, a famous Soviet hydrofoil ship. On September 1, 1967, the Khabarovsk Institute of Physical Education (the Far Eastern State Academy of Physical Culture) was opened. On September 1, 1968, the Khabarovsk State Institute of Arts and Culture was opened.

In 1975, the population of Khabarovsk was about 502,000 people. By 1990, Khabarovsk was formed as a multifunctional economic center of national importance. The population reached its maximum of 616 thousand people.

In May 2000, federal districts were formed in the Russian Federation. Khabarovsk became the center of the Far Eastern Federal District. In 2008, the railway station was completely renovated. In 2009, the reconstruction of the bridge across the Amur was finished. In late summer - early fall of 2013, Khabarovsk was affected by flooding, which became the strongest over the entire observation period since 1897.

On December 13, 2018, the center of the Far Eastern Federal District was moved from Khabarovsk to Vladivostok.

Khabarovsk - Features

Khabarovsk is often considered the capital of the Russian Far East. The city is located in Asia, in the southern part of the Central Amur Lowland, near the confluence of the Amur and Ussuri rivers, about 17 km from the border with China. The city stands on the elevated right bank of the Amur River, the relief of which is diverse and complex.

The distance from Moscow to Khabarovsk by roads is about 8,250 km, to Vladivostok - 750 km. About half of the population of Khabarovsk Krai lives in this city. Khabarovsk is a bit similar to the large cities of the Volga region. Here you can see similar new buildings wedging chaotically into the cityscape and an abundance of pre-revolutionary architecture.

Although Khabarovsk can’t boast of Vladivostok’s seaside flavor or all-Russian sights, it’s still worth coming here, and to some extent this is inevitable: all routes of the Khabarovsk region converge here.

The climate in Khabarovsk is temperate monsoon, with snowy cold winters and hot humid summers. The average temperature in January is minus 20.5 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 21.8 degrees Celsius. The number of sunny days per year is significantly higher than in a number of large cities of Russia (up to 300 days a year; in Moscow and St. Petersburg - about 100).

From November to March, very dry and frosty continental air with clear and sunny weather is established over the city. The best time to visit Khabarovsk is June and September when the weather is not too hot.

Khabarovsk is a major hub at the junction of water, air, rail, and road communications from the north and west of the country, Primorye, Sakhalin, and the ports of Khabarovsk Krai. The Trans-Siberian Railway passes through the city, as well as the railway line to Komsomolsk-on-Amur. This city is the connecting point of the federal highways “Amur” (Chita - Khabarovsk), “Ussuri” (Khabarovsk - Vladivostok), and Khabarovsk - Komsomolsk-on-Amur. Urban transport includes trams, trolleybuses, buses, minibuses, and taxis.

The international airport “Novy” offers regular flights to Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Vladivostok, Yakutsk, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Magadan, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Seoul (South Korea), Tokyo (Japan).

The design of the Russian 5,000 rubles banknote features Khabarovsk. On its front side you can see the monument to Muravyov-Amursky (the founder of Khabarovsk and Vladivostok) on the background of the embankment of the Amur River. The Khabarovsk bridge over the Amur is depicted on the back of the banknote. At the time of construction, in 1916, it was one of the longest bridges in the world and was called “The Amur Miracle”.

The fork-shaped cross depicted on the coat of arms of Khabarovsk symbolizes the location of the city at the confluence of the Amur and Ussuri rivers. Fish reminds of the main occupation of the first residents - fishing. The white-breasted bear and the Amur tiger are endemic to the Amur land.

Main Attractions of Khabarovsk

Khabarovsk Regional Museum named after Nikolai Grodekov . The expositions of this museum feature exhibits on the paleontology and geology of the Amur Region, the flora and fauna of the Far East, the fish of the Amur basin, the culture of the indigenous peoples of the Amur region and Russian settlers, the history of the development of the Russian Far East, the events of the Civil War in the Far East (1917-1922). The museum building (1896) is a monument of architecture, culture, and history of federal significance. Shevchenko Street, 11.

Amur (Khabarovsk) Cliff - the most beautiful place in the city located in the center of Admiral Gennady Nevelsky Embankment running along the Amur River bank, near the Khabarovsk Regional Museum. In 1858, a military detachment led by commander Yakov Dyachenko landed here. He decided to set up his camp here, which later became a military settlement, and even later - the village of Khabarovka.

Here you can find a good observation deck with beautiful views of the Amur River and the city. Nearby, there is a park with the famous monument to the Governor-General of Eastern Siberia Muravyov-Amursky. This monument is depicted on the Russian banknote of 5,000 rubles. Shevchenko Street, 15.

The Far Eastern Art Museum - the largest museum of fine art in the Russian Far East. The collection of this museum has about 16 thousand works of art of the Old Russian, Russian pre-revolutionary, Soviet, and modern periods. Here you can also see the Far Eastern and Western European fine art, the art of the peoples of the Amur Region, works of Russian icon painting of the 15th-20th centuries. Shevchenko Street, 7.

Military History Museum of the Far Eastern Military District . The museum exhibits documents, photographs, banners of all periods of the history of the Far Eastern Military District, starting with the Russian Civil War in the Far East and to our time. In the courtyard, there is an exhibition of military equipment. Shevchenko Street, 20.

Khabarovsk Assumption Cathedral - the first stone building and one of the largest churches in Khabarovsk. The original building was demolished in 1930. In 2002, the cathedral was restored according to a new architectural project in the Russian style with some eclectic features. The new cathedral as a whole differs from the original building, but has some of its elements. In particular, the shapes of the arches and domes of the new cathedral were taken from the old version. Sobornaya (Komsomolskaya) Square.

Khabarovsk Bridge (“The Amur Miracle”) - one of the main symbols of Khabarovsk. The construction of this bridge completed the Trans-Siberian Railway in 1916. This bridge is depicted on the Russian 5,000 Rubles banknote. In the 1990s, the bridge was reconstructed, its old openwork spans were dismantled. Nearby, you can find the Museum of the History of the Amur Bridge with the last preserved span of the original design.

Lenin Square - the central and most picturesque square in Khabarovsk. In size, it is second only to Red Square in Moscow. It is framed by buildings of various styles of architecture, size, and number of storeys. There are beautiful fountains, well-groomed flower beds, and trimmed lawns here.

Severny Park - a cascade of three small but very picturesque ponds. In the middle of the green lawns and trees there are small arbors, as well as a snow-white wedding palace. Nearby, you can see the Church of Seraphim of Sarov. Kakhovskaya Street, 1.

I lived in Khabarovsk for many years. I was an American working there. I spoke fluent Russian and pretty much blended right in. No one guessed I was a foreigner. I made lots of truly wonderful friends some of whom became like family.

I walked about any time I felt like it and never had any sort of problems. I lived in several other cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg and Khabarovsk is my favorite. If I could figure out a way to live there permanently, I would with pleasure.

I had the pleasure of flying a number of flights to Khabarovsk in the early 1990's. I met some wonderful people, one very special person. While the city was in a semi state of disrepair, it still held the historic beauty of its earlier years.

It has been over 20 years since my visit and I would very much like to return. Perhaps not in this life time but the memories live on.
