America’s last authentic overnight steamboat
The legendary Delta Queen invites you aboard to experience a nostalgic return to America’s past!
Step aboard this historic vessel and into another century, when steam-powered paddleboats churned up and down the waterways of America. Adorned with teak handrails, Tiffany-style stained glass and crystal chandeliers, the Delta Queen’s grand decor exudes lavish Victorian charm.
The Delta Queen is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. She is also a National Historic Landmark, a member of the National Maritime Hall of Fame, and most recently designated a National Treasure by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Once the renovation process is complete, the Delta Queen will return to the waterways of America’s Heartland and Deep South, giving passengers the opportunity to experience the rivers from America’s only authentic 1927 overnight paddlewheel steamboat.
At this time, the historic vessel is securing resources to begin major renovations so she can once again invite passengers to relive the age of Mark Twain and his cast of river characters.
Don’t miss your chance to escape to an era of elegance and grandeur aboard the Delta Queen! Be the first to receive updates about the Delta Queen’s renovations and future sailings by signing up for updates here and following us on Facebook and Twitter .

Paddlewheel Cruises: A Step Back in Time
Immerse yourself in the enchanting allure of yesteryear with our paddlewheel cruises. For many travelers, it’s the perfect combination of classic elegance and modern comfort.
Our paddlewheel cruisers stand as iconic symbols of a bygone era, evoking the golden age of river travel when these iconic boats ruled the waters.
The grand paddlewheels, reminiscent of a time when steam-powered propulsion was the height of innovation, infuse each voyage with a sense of nostalgia. As you step aboard, you’ll find yourself transported to a period of elegance and refinement, while still enjoying modern amenities.
History in Motion
There’s something truly captivating about the rhythmic churning of the paddlewheel as it propels the vessel along historic waterways. It’s a reminder of the past, a connection to the days when these vessels were the lifeblood of transportation and trade along rivers.
But the experience doesn’t end with the propulsion. Onboard, a world of entertainment and camaraderie unfolds. Many of our paddlewheel cruises offer themed parties, live performances, and interactive activities that help foster a sense of community among fellow passengers.
As you share in the revelry, you’ll forge connections that span generations and backgrounds, making memories that last long after the cruise concludes.
Sights and Sounds
Picture yourself in a boat on a river … cruising down the Ohio River, absorbing the picturesque landscapes that unfold before you. Or imagine navigating the winding waters of the Columbia and Snake rivers, tracing the paths of explorers who ventured into uncharted territories. Each destination tells its own story, and our paddlewheel cruises give you the unique opportunity to be a part of that narrative.
In a world where speed and efficiency often take precedence, paddlewheel cruises invite you to slow down and savor every moment. Let the gentle rocking of the boat, the soothing sounds of water, and the grandeur of the paddlewheel transport you to a time when journeys were as important as the destinations themselves.
If you’re seeking an escape from the ordinary, a voyage that intertwines history and modern comfort, then step aboard our paddlewheel cruises. As you relive the charm of a bygone era and discover new horizons, you’ll find that these cruises offer a unique blend of nostalgia and adventure, an experience that is truly timeless.

Explore New Orleans and Memphis by paddle steam boat with Good Housekeeping
Cajun cuisine, Delta vistas, live jazz and an elegant saloon… what more could you want from a Deep South cruise?
A classic paddlewheel steamboat cruise along the fascinating Mississippi River is a journey as memorable and melodic as the destination at its heart.
This is a holiday to get excited about, and if it's something that floats your boat, you can join our incredible trip on the modern American Queen paddle steamer in February 2023, sailing from New Orleans up to Memphis.
Sail on the American Queen Paddle Steamer
On the largest authentic paddlewheel steamboat ever built, you can expect polished woodwork, carefully selected antiques and traditional furniture evoking the Golden Age of paddle boats - 19th-century North America.
And you can party like it, too, with nightly entertainment in the Grand Saloon and lounges, including singalongs and Broadway-style shows.
FIND OUT MORE
One of the highlights will be sitting down to dinner: either in the elegant, fine-dining J.M. White restaurant - with globe chandeliers and painted ceilings - or at the relaxed River Grill & Bar at the boat’s stern, with a prime view overlooking the iconic red paddlewheel.
The food is to die for. Think sweet, golden brown beignets, meaty crawfish tails and jumbo shrimp - Southern dishes at their finest, using fresh ingredients.
New Orleans to Memphis cruise
Setting off from New Orleans, known for its distinctive jazz, tantalising Creole cuisine and raucous celebrations like the famous Mardi Gras, the classic paddle steamer will then make its way down the Mississippi, finally arriving at the home of the blues and birthplace of rock 'n' roll - Memphis. It doesn’t get much more iconic than this.
Before the cruise begins, you’ll start your holiday with a bang, exploring the vibrant nightlife and live music of New Orleans with a complimentary pre-cruise hotel stay.
Along the Mississippi, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to experience the area’s rich cultural history, from the indigenous roots of Natchez, named by its first American Indian inhabitants, to Vicksburg - the site of a key Civil War battle.
READ MORE ABOUT THE TRIP
A journey up the Mississippi is a lesson in American history through sights, smells and sounds.
What to eat in New Orleans?
The Cajun cuisine of New Orleans is famous the world over, so you can’t leave the Deep South without trying a shrimp po' boy in a fresh French baguette, nor a spicy jambalaya, creamy gumbo or pillowy beignet.
The cuisine here is heavily influenced by the region’s French, African and Spanish heritage.
You could take a moment to relax while learning all about this distinctive mix of cultures, in one of the special corners of your ship, like the on-board library in the elegant Mark Twain Gallery, or the old-fashioned Chart Room.
VISIT THE DEEP SOUTH WITH GH
Let it all soak in over tea in the Victorian-style Ladies' Tea Room or with a puzzle in the civilised Gentlemen's Card Room.
Mississippi Delta
The small river towns in the Mississippi Delta have been an inspiration for authors, musicians and artists for centuries, and in Greenville you’ll be able to experience the magic for yourself visiting its museums and exhibits.
And this is not to mention the natural wonders of the Mississippi Delta, whose rural landscapes are home to beautiful wildlife and idyllic rural scenery.
Look out for birds from the spacious sundeck of the American Queen - this is an important spot for bird migration.
Activities galore
Along the Mississippi, you’ll get to tour the ornate Nottoway Plantation, the bustling artisan market in 200-year-old St. Francisville, a distillery owned by famous American chef Regina Charboneau, and see Tiffany Studios-designed stained-glass windows in Vicksburg.
Visit the courthouse where Jefferson Davis, Ulysses S. Grant and Teddy Roosevelt have all given speeches, and explore Yesterday's Children Antique Doll & Toy Museum, in the building where Coca-Cola was first bottled in 1894.
And if you still don’t want to leave after arriving in Memphis, you could opt to stay a little longer to explore this fascinating city.
Peace of mind
TS Tours is ATOL-protected and financially bonded, so you can book this voyage with confidence as it’s 100% protected... all you have to do is sit back and enjoy!
How to book

Job opens on UK's last coal-powered paddle steamer
A "once in a lifetime job" to maintain the UK's last remaining coal-powered paddle steamer has been advertised.
Kingswear Castle paddle steamer operates on the River Dart, in Dartmouth, Devon, and has been in service for 100 years, said Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company.
Paul Merrington, engineering director, said responsibilities included raising steam and operating the engine.
He added it was an "exciting opportunity".
Mr Merrington said: "She is the only remaining coal-fired paddle steamer operating in the UK.
"She is one of a kind and one of only a handful left in the world.
"The engine itself is 120 years old, so it would suit somebody who likes old machinery.
"Someone with traction engine experience could comfortably come into the engine room and understand some of what is going on."
'Wonderful job'
The firm described the role as a "once in a lifetime job".
Mr Merrington added: "Day-to-day, it involves raising steam, maintaining the boiler pressures, operating the engine after it has been lubricated at the start of the day and then actually driving the engine from the skipper's commands.
"It is a very small number which has had the opportunity to have this wonderful job."
He added the company was looking to get someone in the role "as soon as possible".
