Lying to the South of Halong bay off the North-Eastern coast of Vietnam, the 300-or-so karst islands and limestone outcrops of Lan Ha are just as beautiful as those of its superstar neighbour, but feel more isolated and untouched. Lan Ha also has the additional attraction of numerous white-sand beaches, which aren't found at Halong. Geologically, Lan Ha is an extension of Halong Bay but sits in a different province. Lan Ha is best explored on an overnight boat tour, which usually includes a stop at a beach and the chance to get out on the water to kayak. \My kids love the swimming pool and the water was not too deep, really safe for children! Boat riding to explore the cave was very nice and the weather was so cool. The rock and cave were fantastic and the trip was memorable. My family stayed in 1 cabin and the room was spacious and convenient. Food and drinks were nice but still could be improved.

I highly recommend people go on a cruise in the sunny weather. We took a 1-night tour and the Tai Chi was canceled because of the rain. Other activities were great though, and we really enjoyed kayaking. Halong Bay was truly magnificent and I think everyone should come here once! The food was delicious and we thank you for catering to our vegetarian requests really well.

We took a 2-day tour and would love to have expanded it! The jacuzzi pool was nice but it was quite small for many people. The cabins were pretty and well equipped. Some staff did not speak English very well and it was hard for communication, but they were very nice and supportive though, thanks all for that!

We were very happy to choose this cruise! The views and locations were beautiful and we absolutely loved the boat ride to the cave! Actually the boat was not as new as we expected and some parts needed improvement. Bedrooms were excellent and very enjoyable! We got a nice stay and the staff were very friendly too!

Overall, the cruise was a fantastic experience! It ran really smoothly and on board, there were many great activities such as cooking classes, sunset party… But the transfer to the day boat on the 2nd day was a bit slow and tiring. The food was lovely and we had plenty of it, so you do not have to worry about the amount. There were many drink choices as well! We really appreciated the well-decorated rooms and interiors. Great value for money! 

It was very nice and thoughtful of the Rosy Cruise that their staff took great care of my grandparents throughout the trip, they had a wonderful time! In Viet Hai Village, it was very nice to have a ride in an electric car for the views as my grandparents cannot cycle well. You can also choose to stay on board if you do not want to explore the destinations. I loved squid fishing under the stars, very exciting and memorable. I would definitely recommend this great cruise for everyone I know.

The boat was very clean and beautiful! To me, the food was a little bit bland but its flavors were still very delicious and fresh. Drinks were great too but quite pricey, you should check its prices first to make a clever choice. The views were spectacular and really met all my expectations about Halong Bay. Thanks all the dedicated staff for this amazing opportunity! Totally worth it all!

We stayed in a junior suite and I must compliment the room’s great decoration, clean and comfortable designs. The only downside was the slow wifi connection but it was understandable due to the remote trip. Services were great at every point and we loved the food here. The staff were very helpful, especially the manager, thank you all so much! I highly recommend Rosy cruise and also suggest that you should do some research beforehand about their schedule and activities to avoid feeling rushed.

If you go to Halong Bay on your own, please be ready at Rosy Cruise’s Waiting area Tuan Chau International Marina, Halong Bay  at 11:30 – 11:45 A.M for check-in. You will be transferred to Rosy Cruise from the tender. Any late arrivals will be charged 100 USD for tender.

12:30 – 13:00 : Welcome to Rosy Cruise. You will be given a short briefing about your cruise while sipping your welcome drink in the restaurant.

13:00 – 13:15: Enjoy a typical lunch in the luxury dining room while Rosy Cruise slowly glides between the numerous small islands and the sea-green color.

15:00: Drop anchor for swimming or just simply sunbathe on our cruise (private, wild and fresh air). Also, you can do kayaking under our tour guide’s instructions to explore many beautiful spots.

16:30: Come back to Rosy Cruise

17:30: Summit on the sundeck for watching the magnificent sunset over the Gulf of Tonkin, you are invited to Sunset party (we serve you local snacks and fresh fruits) and do not miss the special offer “Happy hours – buy 2 get 1 for free” (from 17:30 to 19:00).

18:00:  You take part in cooking demonstration. We will guide you how to make the traditional Vietnamese dish – deep fried spring rolls.

19:15:   The delicious dinner is served with fresh food set menu.

21:00: After dinner, reward yourself with a large selection of cocktails at panoramic bar or go down to the entrance of the cruise for the squid fishing (We open the light and preparing the squid fishing rods).

The area has become popular with foreign tourists without attracting the mass tourism so that it is still very rustic. For those who are not fancy with cycling will be arranged by electric car.

11:30: Go back to the Day Boat

12:00: Enjoy the lunch with beautiful view on the Day Boat.

13:15: Kayaking around the area to discover further landscape of the bay.

Pick up from your hotel in Hanoi Old Quarter (transfer not included in cruise price). Halong Bay is accessible by a 2.5-hour ride. From Tuan Chau Port, a private boat picks you up and heads to Rosy Cruise. A welcome speech takes about 30 minutes while you enjoy the welcome drink and listen to the safety guideline. Then, you will enjoy a special lunch with Vietnamese seafood (vegetarian menu is available) while the cruise discovers the spectacular Halong – Lan Ha Bay.

08:00: Pick-up at Hanoi Old Quarter

For guests using the inland transportation service, the limousine car of Rosy Cruise will collect tourists at hotels around Hanoi Old Quarter.

08:45: Depart to Halong from Hanoi

10:30: Short-break

The limousine car will stop in Hai Duong for 15 – 20 minutes so that tourists can go to the bathroom or have a short break.

11:30 – 12:00: Check-in on Rosy Cruise

Rosy Cruise welcomes tourists with a welcome drink, a brief introduction about the cruise and some safety instructions on board. After that, tourists do the check-in procedure at the cabin.

13:00: Lunch time

Tourists will have the first meal on Rosy Cruise with fresh seafood from Halong and a vegetarian menu. During lunch time, the vessel will pass through stunning seascapes of Halong and Lan Ha Bays.

Enjoy a typical lunch in the luxury dining room while Rosy Cruise slowly glides between the numerous small islands andthe sea-green color.

Drop anchor for swimming or just simply sunbathe on our cruise (private, wild and fresh air). Also, you can kayak under our tour guide’s instructions to explore many beautiful spots.

Summit on the sundeck for watching the magnificent sunset over the Gulf of Tonkin, you are invited to Sunset party (we serve you local snacks and fresh fruits) and do not miss the special offer “Happy hours – buy 2 get 1 for free” (from 17:30 to 19:00).

You take part in a cooking demonstration. We will guide you how to make the traditional Vietnamese dish – deep fried spring rolls.

Day 02: Lan Ha Bay - Halong Bay - Light Cave - Tuan Chau Port

Wake up early for the sunrise (depends on the season and the weather) Enjoy Tai Chi session on the sundeck (If it is not raining). Tai Chi helps focus the mind and condition the body.

Light breakfast is served in the dining room with the morning view of the bay’s landscape.

Traditional bamboo sampan or kayaking activities in the Light cave area – a perfect destination for the adventurous visitor who would love to row or kayak on calm water surface while enjoying the cave’s impressive stonewalls.

Return to Hanoi by comfortable air-con shuttle limousine (if you use our transfer service) or you are meeting your private car driver when you arrived the harbour. If you want to go to Cat Ba island, you must let us know, we will transfer you by Rosy Cruise small transfer boat to Gia Luan Port.

Arrive Hanoi city around 15.00 – 15.30. Services end.

Cycling a short trip of 5km to Viet Hai village – a small village in the midst of the jungle, surrounded by the high mountain ranges of Cat Ba National Park. The area has become popular with foreign tourists without attracting the mass tourism so that it is still very rustic. For those who are not interested in cycling, electric cars will be arranged.

Detailed itinerary, 2 days 1 night on rosy cruise.

08:00 - 08:45, you will be picked up at your hotel in the Hanoi Old Quarter. The road trip will begin in about 2.5 hours in a shuttle limousine bus (for transfer service).

If you are traveling to Halong Bay on your own, please be ready for check-in at the Rosy Cruise's Waiting area located at the Tuan Chau International Marina in Halong Bay between the hours of 11:30 and 11:45 in the morning. The Rosy Cruise will welcome you once you have been transported off the tender.

Rosy Cruise welcomes you between the hours of 12:30 and 13:00. While you are enjoying your complimentary drink in the restaurant, an informative presentation on your cruise will be delivered to you.

Enjoy a traditional meal in the luxurious dining room between the hours of 13:15 while Rosy Cruise quietly glides between the numerous little islands and the aquamarine hue of the sea.

At fifteen o'clock, we will drop anchor so you may go swimming or simply sunbathe (in a secluded, wild, and fresh-air environment).

You also have the option to go kayaking with our tour leader, who will provide you with lessons while you discover several stunning locations.

It is time to return to Rosy Cruise at 16:30.

Do not miss the opportunity to take advantage of the "Happy hours – buy 2 get 1 for free" promotion that is running from 17:30 to 19:00 on the sundeck while you watch the breathtaking sunset over the Gulf of Tonkin. During this time, you are also invited to the "Sunset party," during which we will serve you local delicacies and fresh fruits.

18:00 You will participate in the cooking demonstration. We will teach you how to prepare spring rolls that are deep-fried in the classic style of Vietnamese cuisine.

At 19:15, a magnificent supper will be served, complete with a set menu of fresh foods.

21:00: After dinner, treat yourself to a large selection of cocktails at the panoramic bar or head down to the entrance of the ship for some squid fishing (we will open the light and get the squid fishing rods ready for you).

Between 05:30 and 06:00, get up before the sun rises (this time varies depending on the time of year and the weather).

Participate in a Tai Chi session out on the sundeck (provided it doesn't rain). Tai chi is a martial art that focuses on the mind and strengthens the body.

A light breakfast is offered every morning in the dining room at 6:30, with a view of the bay's environment in the morning.

07:30: Traditional bamboo sampan or kayaking activities in the Light cave area - a fantastic place for the adventurist guest who would want to row or kayak on the tranquil water surface while enjoying the spectacular stonewalls of the cave.

It is 8:30, and you need to return to Rosy Cruise to pack your bags.

9:15 Please check out of your room, pay any outstanding balances, and return the keys to the registration desk.

Brunch, consisting of a delicious set meal, is served at 09:30.

10:45: Immediately following your disembarkation from the Rosy Cruise, you will be driven to the Tuan Chau Marina via speedboat.

11:30: Return to Hanoi by a luxurious air-con shuttle limousine (if you utilize our transfer service), otherwise you will be meeting your private vehicle driver when you arrived at the harbor.

15:00 – 15:30: Arrive at the city of Hanoi somewhere between 15:00 and 15:30.

3 Days 2 Nights on Rosy Cruise

Day 1: Hanoi - Halong Bay - Lan Ha Bay (L, D)

Day 2: Lan Ha Bay - Viet Hai Village in Catba Island (B, L, D)

Get up before the sun rises (this time varies depending on the time of year and the weather).

You will be transferred to the Day Boat between 8:30 and 8:45, and then you will set sail to continue your exploration of Lan Ha Bay.

Viet Hai village is a little community in the middle of the jungle that is encircled by the high mountain ranges of Cat Ba National Park. We will cycle the short distance of 5 kilometers to get there at 10:00. The region has developed a strong reputation among those traveling from other countries, yet it has been able to avoid becoming overrun with mass tourists. Those participants who do not feel comfortable riding will have the option of taking an electric automobile instead.

It is 11:30; please return to the Day Boat.

12 o'clock: A delicious lunch with a breathtaking view awaits you aboard the Day Boat.

13:15 Exploring the surrounding area by kayak in order to get a better look at the bay's topography.

15.00: Going for a swim in the emerald-colored water at the Three Peaches Beach area

Say your goodbyes to the crews of the day boats and head back to Rosy Cruise between the hours of 16:00 and 16:30.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
