Bali has a variety of sports that tourists, expats and locals can enjoy. As well as main stream sports like tennis and golf, Bali offers the chance to learn and enjoy sports such as surfing and scuba diving. Here is a run down of popular sports in Bali:

Surfing – Bali is one of the premier surfing destinations in the world, being blessed with year round good weather, warm water, plenty of facilities and a unique geography that affords access to many surf breaks. Local Balinese love surfing and are very good themselves. Bali’s reputation as a surf spot draws surfers from all over the world including USA, Australia and Europe.

Kuta Beach is the perfect place to learn to surf and for the experts the Bukit peninsula offers a selection of reef breaks that on their day can be high standard. Taking a surfing lesson is the safest and most rewarding way to start, the instructors giving you safety tips that you will use every time you surf. While there are waves all year round, the peak season is July- September.

Scuba diving – Bali has several decent scuba diving spots. For a European or American the great thing about diving in Bali is warm water and a tropical environment, that is affordable when you get out of the water. Main diving spots include Amed and Tulamben in East Bali, Nusa Lembongan across the Badung Strait, Pemuteran and Menjangan Island in NW Bali.

Divers will be able to either go to one of these locations and talk directly with a dive operator , or arrange it from the Kuta / Sanur area. Some of the dive operators have websites to allow you to plan your dive trip before you get to Bali. The standard Open Water course takes 4-5 days. For divers wishing to get a little more creative, Indonesia has some of the best scuba diving in the world on other islands including Ambon, Sulawesi and Papua, with a combination of dive resorts and live-aboards boats servicing the market.

Golf – Bali has 3 proper 18 hole golf courses, one in Nusa Dua at the Bali Golf & Country Club, one in Tanah Lot at Le Meridien Nirvana and one in Bedugal in the highlands at the Handara Kosaido Country Club. Tennis – many large hotels and resorts have tennis courts. Every year Bali hosts the Wismilak tennis tournament in Nusa Dua. This international event was won last year by Lindsey Davenport.

White water rafting – SOBEK operates a whitewater rafting operation in Sayan, just west of Ubud. Bali has a range of Class 2 to Class 4 rivers, which run from December to April (wet season). After that the flow of the rivers slows down. Almost every hotel in Bali has a day tours desk offering rafting, so booking is very easy. There are many companies and SOBEK offers other locations as well as Sayan.

Canoeing – Canoeing is provided at Lake Batur, many locals will offer you boat rental, although you will have to negotiate for a good price.

Bungee jumping – (if that’s a sport) is offered a couple of locations, the best of which is AJ Hacketts at the end of Jl. Double Six in Seminyak.

Mountain biking – Riding around the city areas is not really that enjoyable due to the traffic. SOBEK and Bali Adventure Tours provide mountain biking trips from Mt Batur and Mt Batukaru .

Football (soccer) – If you like watching of playing football, just head down to the beach area in Kuta in late afternoon. There are dozens of pick-up games going on with mostly Indonesian playing. They often make a goal by placing to poles in the sand about a meter apart and the action is fast and furious. If you ask to join you’ll probably be able to.

Aussie Rules – Bali has an Aussie Rules team called the Bali Gecko’s . Their club house is the Bottle Shop on Jl. Kunti, which also serves as home base for other sports related clubs. The Gecko’s practice at the soccer field across from Cafe Moka in Seminyak. They play other expat teams from all over Indonesia and by all accounts are pretty good.

Bowling – Kuta Paradiso Billiard and Bowling on Jl. Kartika Plaza is a handy place to take the family for an afternoon. They have good pool tables, plus one full size snooker table and about 18 bowling lanes. Kuta Paradiso Billiard and Bowling also serves food and drinks. Another great place for pool players in Buddha’s Belly, a lounge bar type place with a restaurant and 14 beautiful pool tables.

Cricket – The Bali Cricket Club is based in Sanur and is mainly expats. Stop in and introduce yourself.

Sailing – A friend of mine, Ebong, operates a sailing boat in Jimbaran and will take people out for a couple of hours. The boat is the next size up from a Lazer. Bisnis.com , DENPASAR - Ajang terjun payung bebas atau skydiving bertajuk Bali International Professional akan digelar di Bali sebagai upaya membantu menghidupkan perekonomian Pulau Dewata

Bali International Boogie 2022 akan melibatkan sebanyak 60 orang penerjun bebas profesional dari berbagai negara. Mereka akan melakukan aksi terjun payungnya dari ketinggian lebih dari 15.000 kaki dan mendarat di Pantai Seminyak, Kabupaten Badung selama 4 hari mulai 20 hingga 27 Juni 2022.

Ketua Umum Federasi Aero Sport Indonesia (FASI) Provinsi Bali Kolonel Pnb. Putu Sucahyadi mengungkapkan kegiatan ini diprioritaskan untuk melakukan pemulihan pariwisata Bali yang melemah akibat pandemik Covid.

“Yang pertama kegiatan ini dilakukan untuk mendukung pemerintah Bali dalam mendongkrak kembali pariwisata dan memberi daya tarik wisatawan untuk datang ke Bali. Kedua, dengan adanya kegiatan yang bertaraf internasional ini kami menyampaikan kepada dunia bahwa Bali siap menerima kegiatan taraf internasional lainnya serta menerima wisman,” ungkapnya dalam konferensi pres, Kamis (12/5/2022).

Kegiatan ini berkolaborasi dengan Perkumpulan Olahraga Dirgantara (Ordirga) Singkawang Aerosport Club (SAC) dari Jakarta, Komunitas Terjun Payung Skydive Egypt (SE) dari Cairo, Mesir dan Melali Bali DMC sebagai mitra penyelengara dari Bali. Dan dalam rencananya akan menjadi kegiatan periodik satu kali dalam setahun profesional di bidang terjun payung.

Para peserta adalah penerjun mancanegara dengan kualifikasi minimal intermediate sampai dengan profesional. “Para peserta skydiver merupakan seorang influencer yang memiliki video dengan jutaan penonton, sehingga ini menjadi kesempatan untuk memperkenalkan pulau Dewata kepada dunia bahwa Bali sudah sangat siap untuk dikunjungi,” jelas Putu Sucahyadi.

Tourism leaders in Bali are predicting a boom in demand for watersports activities. Everything from parasailing to banana boating, snorkeling, and jet skis. As more direct flights from China to Bali are confirmed, tourism leaders have an inkling that demand for watersports activities will soar.

Speaking to reporters, I Ketut Jaman, CEO of Bali Melali MICE, said that the launch of the new Xiamen Airlines flight from Xiamen to Denpasar would help boost tourism business in areas like Benoa where watersports activities are very popular.

He said, “the tourism service effort will be crowded again.” Not only is Jaman the CEO of Bali Melali, but he’s also a consulting academic for the Bali Tourism Expert Group who reports to Governor Wayan Koster. He continued, “Hotels, restaurants and water sports and their derivatives will be more crowded.”

Answering questions from reporters about increased flight schedules from Bali Airport to and from other cities, Jaman said there is definitely more to come. He explained, “Currently, we are still discussing with related parties, and we hope that at the end of this year, the route to and from China can return to the same as before the Covid-19 Pandemic…We hope that the connection of Bali Island with China directly can increase the number of visits in the future.”

While China is a big focal point for the tourism industry in Bali right now, officials have also confirmed that airlines from the USA, Japan, Russia, and India have all requested to be added to the flight schedule as soon as possible.

Jaman may have spoken about the demand for watersports activities from Chinese tourists, but in reality, tourists from all demographics love to have fun in the water. Great, In many other tourist places there are Seaplane Flights. Scenic, and also can take people from the airport to the beautiful lake on top of Mt Rinjani or even to the lake in Bedugal. No hassle with the traffic. And now in Banyuwangi the government flight school has a new Cessna Amphibian. This is all good news. Skip the traffic and land on the water.

Sesuai dengan namanya, sport tourism adalah wisata yang dikombinasikan dengan olahraga.

United Nations World Tourism Organizations (UNWTO) menjelaskan, sport tourism merupakan sektor wisata yang pertumbuhannya paling cepat karena aktivitasnya diminati wisatawan.

Ditambah lagi, sport tourism termasuk tren pariwisata yang memiliki pasar cukup besar. Pertumbuhan sport tourism di Indonesia diprediksi bisa mencapai Rp 18.790 triliun hingga 2024.

Menteri Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif/Kepala Badan Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno menjelaskan, adanya sport tourism dengan kearifan lokal tidak hanya menarik wisatawan karena destinasinya saja.

Hal itu, katanya jadi kearifan budaya lokal yang dapat membangkitkan ekonomi sekaligus membuka lapangan kerja.

Sebenarnya, Indonesia sudah lama mengembangkan sport tourism dengan kearifan lokal dalam berbagai event dan festival yang dapat menarik wisatawan. Berikut, 7 sport tourism berbasis kearifan lokal di Indonesia.

Lompat Batu Nias

Sport tourism berbasis kearifan lokal Indonesia yang pertama adalah Lompat Batu di Nias. Bukan lompat batu biasa, atraksi yang dikenal dengan nama Hombo Batu ini merupakan atraksi melompati batu setinggi dua meter dan lebar 40 centimeter (cm).

Atraksi wisata dari Desa Wisata Bawomataluo, Nias, Sumatera Utara itu awalnya merupakan tradisi yang dilakukan sebagai syarat pemuda untuk mengikuti perang. Pemuda yang berhasil melompati batu dianggap sebagai sosok dewasa yang telah matang secara fisik.

Menariknya, selain ditampilkan sebagai acara adat, tradisi yang terus dilestarikan oleh warga Desa Wisata Bawomataluo itu juga telah menjadi pertunjukan menarik bagi para wisatawan.

Pacu Jalur juga masuk kategori sport tourism dengan kearifan lokal di Indonesia. Pacu Jalur adalah lomba dayung tradisional Provinsi Riau yang memadukan unsur olahraga, seni, dan olah batin.

Pacu Jalur digelar untuk melestarikan budaya. Mengingat, sejak 1900-an perahu adalah transportasi utama masyarakat Kuantan Singingi, Riau.

Uniknya, kegiatan olahraga yang mirip dengan Perahu Naga ini menggunakan perahu sepanjang 25-40 meter, dan bisa diisi hingga 40 pendayung. Bukan hanya menarik wisatawan domestik, Pacu Jalur berhasil menarik wisatawan mancanegara asal Malaysia, Amerika Serikat, dan Australia.

Ironman Bintan

Pilihan sport tourism selanjutnya adalah ajang triathlon paling menantang di Asia, Ironman 70.3 Bintan. Tidak main-main, Ironman Bintan 2019 berhasil diikuti 1.044 peserta dari 58 negara, di antaranya Filipina, Selandia Baru, Singapura, Australia, Jepang, dan Amerika Serikat.

Event Sport Tourism Indonesia Incaran Para Pemacu Adrenalin Dunia

Olahraga tidak hanya dilakukan di rumah saja, namun bisa sekaligus sambil menjelajahi berbagai destinasi wisata. Tren olahraga sambil berwisata inilah yang kemudian melahirkan istilah, sport tourism , sebagai salah satu tren pariwisata yang populer saat ini.

Bisa dibilang, popularitas sport tourism menjadi awal yang baik bagi pariwisata Indonesia. Pasalnya, sport tourism menjadi atraksi wisata dengan pertumbuhannya yang pesat, dan memiliki pasar yang cukup besar berkat banyaknya wisatawan mancanegara yang tertarik pada aktivitas olahraga di Indonesia.

Bahkan, menurut Menteri Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif, Sandiaga Uno saat memberikan keynote speech dalam webinar Pelatihan Pengembangan Pariwisata Olahraga Untuk Pemuda (9/7); diperkirakan pertumbuhan sport tourism di Indonesia bisa mencapai Rp18,790 triliun pada 2024 mendatang. Tentu angin segar ini menjadi langkah awal dalam membangkitkan pariwisata dan ekonomi di Indonesia, sekaligus membuka lapangan pekerjaan seluas-luasnya.

Saat ini, ada dua jenis sport tourism yang cukup umum. Pertama adalah hard tourism, sebagai acara perlombaan bersifat regular, seperti Asian Games, Sea Games, atau World Cup. Kemudian, ada juga soft sport tourism, yang dikenal dengan pariwisata olahraga dan berkaitan dengan gaya hidup ( lifestyle ), seperti bersepeda, berlari, hingga berselancar.

Menariknya, ini bukan hal baru, mengingat di Indonesia memiliki banyak event sport tourism yang banyak menarik wisatawan mancanegara untuk mengikutinya. Apa saja itu? Berikut 7 event sport tourism di Indonesia incaran para pemacu adrenalin dunia:

Tour de Singkarak

Sepedaan sambil keliling kota atau desa tentu adalah hal yang menyenangkan. Untuk itu, sangat masuk akal jika bersepeda menjadi salah satu aktivitas sport tourism yang banyak diminati, contohnya Tour de Singkarak.

Diadakan sejak 2009, Tour de Singkarak menjadi ajang balap sepeda incaran wisatawan dalam negeri maupun luar negeri pecinta olahraga bersepeda. Kompetisi sepeda ini diadakan di sekitar Danau Singkarak, Sumatera Barat, yang memberikan pengalaman balapan mengasyikkan.

Pasalnya, rutenya melewati pinggir pantai, danau, dan berbagai tikungan tajam. Tour de Singkarak pun menjadi ajang balap sepeda bergengsi yang selalu diikuti berbagai tim sepeda lebih dari 18 negara.

Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen

Selain di Sumatera Barat, lomba balap sepeda bergengsi kelas dunia berikutnya adalah Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen. Diadakan sejak 2012, Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen menjadi ajang balap sepeda yang menjadi favorit para pemacu adrenalin dunia.

Hal ini dibuktikan dengan keikutsertaan 23 negara yang ambil bagian dalam Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen 2019, di antaranya Jepang, Cina, Malaysia, Australia, Singapura, Malaysia, hingga Tiongkok. Peserta bersaing sambil menikmati keindahan lereng Gunung Ijen yang megah, sekaligus menjelajahi Kabupaten Banyuwangi dengan pesonanya tersendiri.

Borobudur Marathon

Lari menjadi salah satu olahraga yang sangat populer dan kerap dilakukan di berbagai destinasi wisata di Indonesia. Salah satu event sport tourism yang populer di kalangan atlet lari dalam dan luar negeri adalah Borobudur Marathon.

Borobudur Marathon merupakan salah satu event lomba lari berkelas internasional yang telah diikuti ribuan pelari dari berbagai negara. Pada gelaran Borobudur Marathon 2019 lalu, lomba lari ini diikuti sekitar 11.000 peserta dan sekitar 350 di antaranya adalah pelari internasional dari 35 negara.

Tidak hanya sekadar berlari, Borobudur Marathon mengajak para pelari menjelajah, menghirup udara segar, menikmati pemandangan indah, serta mencoba kuliner khas Magelang yang nikmat. Ditambah, sebelum dan sesudah marathon para peserta juga bisa berkeliling Candi Borobudur atau mengunjungi museum dan galeri seni di sekitar candi.

Belitong Geopark Ultra Run

Selain di Borobudur, event sport tourism lari di Indonesia yang tidak kalah seru adalah Belitong Geopark Ultra Run. Rutenya pun dibuat cukup unik, karena para pelari melewati berbagai destinasi wisata seperti Bukit Peramun, Tanjung Kelayang, hingga Danau Kaolin. Pesertanya tak hanya dari dalam negeri, tapi dari berbagai negara, seperti Eropa dan Amerika Serikat.

Ironman Bintan

Event sport tourism di Indonesia berikutnya yang menjadi incaran para pemacu adrenalin dunia adalah Ironman Bintan. Menjadi ajang triathlon paling menantang di Asia adalah daya tarik dari Ironman Bintan. Bayangkan, pada 2019 Ironman Bintang diikuti sekitar 1.044 peserta dari 58 negara!

Daya tarik dari Ironman Bintan adalah pemandangan yang disajikan. Mulai dari berenang di pantai dengan pasir putih dan bawah laut yang indah. Bersepeda di jalur tunggal yang berliku-liku dengan pemandangan hutan hijau yang lebat, hingga berlari sambil menikmati pemandangan indah.

World Surf League

Memiliki pantai dan pemandangan laut yang indah menjadi alasan dipilihnya Bali sebagai tuan rumah World Surf League (WSF) Champions Tour 2019. Ajang berselancar yang bertajuk “Corona Bali ProTected” ini membawa berbagai peselancar terbaik dari seluruh dunia untuk menaklukkan ombak di Bali.

Ada sekitar 56 peselancar terbaik dunia dari berbagai negara mengikuti World Surf League. Diangkatnya Bali menjadi tuan rumah lomba surfing sebenarnya menjadi awalan yang baik, sebab Indonesia memiliki ratusan pantai yang pas untuk surfing, dan 30 di antaranya sudah berlabel dunia.

World Superbike & MotoGP

Satu lagi sport tourism yang bakal menjadi event tahun paling ditunggu pecinta balap motor tercepat di dunia. Yap, World Superbike dan MotoGP bakal segera digelar di Indonesia, tepatnya di Sirkuit Mandalika, Nusa Tenggara Barat.

Ajang balap motor World Superbike telah digelar pada pertengahan November 2021 ini. Sedangkan MotoGP diagendakan digelar pada bulan Maret 2022. Ajang balap motor ini bisa dibilang paling ditunggu para pembalap dunia, pasalnya Sirkuit Mandalika termasuk salah satu sirkuit kelas dunia dengan pemandangan terindah!
