Family Visa (Dependent Visa)

Upon obtaining residency in Kuwait , an employed man can bring his wife and children to Kuwait to live with him. In order to do that, it is mandatory that he earns at least 450KD monthly (in case of possessing a 17-visa) and at least 650KD monthly (in case of possessing a 18-visa). If both man and wife work in Kuwait, they have the possibility to sponsor their children there but only if their salaries combined exceed 350KD monthly.

There are several limitations for this type of visa:

• A wife can't sponsor her husband.
• While you can sponsor adult daughters and parents, you can't sponsor sons of over 21 years old.
• Dependent family members can't work until they convert to a Kuwaiti work visa.

Kuwait Work Visa

Work visas are iqamas granted for public and private sector employees under articles 17 and 18 of the immigration regulations. An employment offer must first be accepted to obtain Kuwait residence visa on a work visa. A Kuwaiti employer sponsor shall apply for the work permit from the Ministry of Social Affairs & Labour. Requirements for the work permit are employee's passport and no-objection certificate or NOC from the General Administration of Criminal Investiagation at the Ministry of Interior.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait will send a copy of the work permit to the Kuwaiti Embassy in the country where the employee lives for endorsement. The sponsor or employer must also send a copy of the work permit to the employee to take to the embassy. The employee must apply for an entry visa for Kuwait. Employees for private sector companies require NOCs and a copy of the employer's authorised signatory as registered for business purposes.

If the employee lives in a country without a Kuwait Embassy, the sponsor will have to submit the work permit and NOC to the Ministry of the Interior to get an entry visa.

If an employee is on a visit visa in Kuwait when he accepted the employment, he must leave Kuwait and return on the new entry visa.

Domestic Servants Visa in Kuwait

Domestic servant visa is issued to resident expatriate's full-time servant sourced from a country outside Kuwait. The resident will be the sponsor for this type of visa. Expatriate families are usually allowed to bring a maid in the country.

Requirements for Domestic Servant Visa

The first requirement is, if you are a male sponsor, you must have a wife living with you if you are going to hire a female servant.

Age limit for the servants is between 20 and 50 years.

After the flight to Kuwait, the domestic servant visa will require his or her passport photos, and documents (same list as that of a work visa , except for the work permit). The servant has to pay a residence fee of KD200.00 for the first year and KD10.00 for the succeeding years.

Procedures for the New Born Kuwait Visa, Passport and Residency

To obtain residency for the child , his name must be added to the parent's passport.

Another way is to obtain a separate passport for the child, which is a more common option. If a child has his own passport, he can travel without his parent if necessary.

A requirement for a child's passport is a certified translation of the child's birth certificate, and other non-Arabic embassies require an authenticated certificate by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait.

When the child's name is added to the parent's passport, or when he obtains his own passport, a child's residence can be obtained. There are no special procedures for obtaining a new born child's residence. The fee for actual residence application is 10KD per year.

Parents on domestic servant visas are not allowed to keep their child in Kuwait. He or she must obtain an exit visa for the child. Parents can apply for an exit visa from the Ministry of the interior. There is no fee for the exit visa.

Other requirements for Kuwait Residence Visa

The employee is required to provide a medical certificate issued by an embassy-accredited clinic. For some nationalities, a good conduct certificate (sometimes called police clearance). 4. Kuwait Transit Visa

Such countries include All European Union nations, Andorra, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, Georgia, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Japan, Laos, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, San Marino, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Swaziland, Switzerland, Turkey, United States, Vatican City and Vietnam.

Kuwait Tourist Visa (e-visa)

This Kuwait online visa or eVisa enables you to visit Kuwait and travel around for touristic purpose.  All foreign nationals and residents in GCC countries, irrespective of their nationalities are eligible to apply for a Kuwait eVisa .  Those seeking a Kuwait Online Visa will have to complete an online application with their biographical information and valid travel document, passport information.

The processing time may be between one day and three business days. Once approved, the visitor will be sent an email of the eVisa, thereby saving him the hassle of going to an embassy or consulate to submit a visa application. The Kuwait Online Visa has a validity of 90 days and is a single-entry visa .

Types of visit visa

There are two basic types of visas that can be classified as Visit Visa and a Residence Visa.

As for Visit Visa, there are several types of visit visas. The Kuwaiti embassies may issue a three-month visa, a six-month visa and multiple-entry visas, based on their applications.

A Visit Visa with validity period of 1 month, a Business Visa (validity of 6 months), Transit visa (validity of 1 week) and Tourist visa (valid for 3 months) and Residence visa (valid for 10 years, but, civil ID needs to be renewed annually).

Toursit Visit Visa

A Kuwait Tourist visit visa is issued for a limited time period of leisure travel, and no business activities are allowed during this period.

The Visit Visa can be sponsored by a relative or sponsor who is a resident foreigner staying in the country. Prior to travel to Kuwait, the visitor will have his visa processed and passport stamped at the nearest Kuwait Embassy. The sponsor in Kuwait can use the faxed copy of visitor’s passport to obtain the visit visa in Kuwait. A copy of the so-obtained visa can be faxed to the visitor to enable his or her travel to Kuwait.

Upon arrival, the sponsor can meet the visitor at the airport with the original visa upon entering the country. The original visa paper can be deposited by the sponsor at the special counter in the arrival hall, and the original documents can picked up by the visitor at a special counter in the immigration area. The original documents are necessary for completing the entry formalities.

On the whole, it may take two working days to obtain a Kuwait Visit Visa. The hotels can also arrange such a visa for business purpose, but, this may take about seven days.

Family Visit Visa

Immediate family members and other relatives residing in the country can visit family members who currently live in Kuwait. No eligibility or criteria is required for this.  Proof of relationship alone is sufficient, and you can visit with your Kuwait Visit Visa.

Documents required:

• Proof of relationship
• Copy of visitor's valid passport
• Copy of civil ID of the sponsor
• Latest salary certificate of the sponsor

Procedure for family visit visa:

• Go to Kuwait embassy in your country and submit the necessary documents for family visit visa.
• Fill in the application form
• Pay the fees due. The family visit visa application costs at a fee of 3KD.

At least KD450 per month if the sponsor works for the government,  and minimum of KD650 if sponsor works in private sector.

Business Visit Visa

In case you are visiting for a business purpose, you need to have a sponsor, or the hotel where you are staying can act as sponsor.

• Valid passport (an additional copy) with 6 months validity remaining
• Kuwait visit visa application with security form filled out by sponsor
• Kuwait sponsor or company
• Copy of visitor's passport
• Copy of sponsor's signature as registered for business purposes
• Copy of sponsor's letter of invitation for the business, stating purpose of the visit

Multiple Entry Visa

Those who obtain this visa can enter Kuwait multiple times during a period of one year. This type of visa comes in handy for those on business visit. However, the sponsor will have to be the Ministry of Defense. Americans are eligible to obtain multiple entry visit visa with a validity of 10 years and unlimited number of entries.

Vaccination

In most cases, vaccination certificates are not required to be granted entry into Kuwait. But, they are mandatory, in case the visitor comes from an area that is infected by viral disease like yellow fever or cholera. The certificates indicate that the visitor is healthy and won’t be transmitting any diseases. In case the visitor is from one of the infected countries, they might also be subjected to medical examination within a few days after their arrival. The visitor will also have to confirm the last country visited.

Validity of Kuwait Visit Visa

The Kuwait Visit Visas are valid for three months (90 days). Visitors can stay in Kuwait for upto 30 days after their entry.

Kuwait Visit Visa cost

The Kuwait Visit Visa costs KD3.00. Entry permits are however free.

Kuwait Visit Visa extension

With a visit visa, you are allowed to stay only up to a maximum of 30 days in the country. In case you extend your stay beyond the validity period of visit visa, you will have to pay a fine of KD10.00 per day after the expiry of the visa.

You will not be allowed to leave the country until you pay total fine. The fines are to be paid in the immigration department in Shuwaikh. The office is open during government work hours. You can also pay the fines in advance if you anticipate your stay extension.

For extending visit visa for a month or two, an expat can submit application to the Immigration Department prior to the expiry of Kuwait visit visa. Another solution for extending Kuwait visit visa is to obtain a second visit visa in the country. You can schedule a day-long travel to Bahrain. You can leave Kuwait in the morning and return in the evening. The flight duration from Kuwait to Bahrain is 40 minutes. This costs about KD45.00. Then seek a second visit visa.

Kindly note: Visa rules are subject to sudden change without warning. Kindly contact the embassy in your country or the relevant authority in Kuwait, as that is the only source of information that can be relied upon. The validity period of a free visit visa on arrival is also subjected to change often.

Desert Region North of the Mutla’a Ridge and Near the Border with Iraq – Level 4: Do Not Travel

Desert areas and certain beaches north of the Mutla’a Ridge continue to contain unexploded ordnance left over from the 1990-1991 Gulf War. Travelers should avoid areas that are “off the beaten path” and avoid touching objects that are potentially unexploded ordnance.

Entry, Exit and Visa Requirements

As of June 9, 2022, the Kuwaiti government has resumed issuing visas on arrival to U.S. citizens visiting Kuwait. The visas are free for U.S. citizens and allow the visa holder to stay up to three months in Kuwait. To obtain a visa on arrival, U.S. citizens arriving in Kuwait must:

• Have a return ticket
• Not be restricted from entry to Kuwait
• Have a passport valid for at least six months after the date of arrival in Kuwait
• Provide the address of the place they will stay in Kuwait

Visit the website of the  Embassy of Kuwait  in Washington, DC, and its Consulates General in Los Angeles and New York City for the most current visa information.

Some HIV/AIDS entry restrictions exist for visitors to and foreign residents of Kuwait. Residency permits require an HIV/AIDS test and permits may be denied if applicants test positive. If HIV-related illness becomes known, the resident must leave the country or be deported.

Residence Permits/Civil IDs:  U.S. citizens seeking residency in Kuwait should have all the required legal documents authenticated the  Department of State Office of Authentications  and attested by the Embassy of Kuwait in Washington, DC or the Consulates General in Los Angeles or New York before arriving in Kuwait. The U.S. Embassy in Kuwait cannot provide this service.

If you are a resident and lose your new Civil ID and/or U.S. passport while outside of Kuwait, you must obtain a No Objection Certificate from the nearest Embassy or Consulate of Kuwait to enter as a resident since losing your U.S. passport invalidates your Civil ID. You may enter using a U.S. emergency passport.

Department of Defense Travelers:  The U.S. Embassy in Kuwait strongly advises active members of the U.S. military and military contractors arriving or departing on military air to contact the Theater Gateway office at 2221-6340 to ensure they go through the proper entrance or exit procedures in Kuwait.

Safety and Security

Terrorism: Terrorist groups and those inspired by such organizations are intent on attacking U.S. citizens abroad. Terrorists are increasingly using less sophisticated methods of attack- including knives, firearms, and vehicles – to more effectively target crowds. Frequently, their aim is vulnerable or unprotected targets, such as:

• High profile public events (sporting contests, political rallies, demonstrations, holiday events, celebratory gatherings, etc.)
• Hotels, clubs, and restaurants frequented by tourists
• Places of worship
• Shopping malls and markets
• Public transportation systems (including subways, buses, trains, and scheduled commercial flights)

Potential for Terrorist Activity: Kuwait continues to face the threat of terrorism. Terrorists may target U.S. citizens and interests in the Arabian Gulf and Arabian Peninsula.

Crime: Criminal activity is low. Nonetheless, reported incidents include petty theft, car break-ins, and harassment or sexual assault of women traveling alone.

The Embassy recommends that U.S. government personnel exercise increased caution in the Jeleeb Al-Shuyoukh area in Kuwait City due to crime. See the Kuwait Travel Advisory for more information.

Desert Region Near the Border of Iraq: U.S. government personnel are prohibited from personal travel within five kilometers of the Kuwait-Iraq border. See the Kuwait Travel Advisory for more information.

Internet romance and financial scams are prevalent in Kuwait. Scams are often initiated through Internet postings/profiles or by unsolicited emails and letters. Scammers almost always pose as U.S. citizens who have no one else to turn to for help. Common scams include:

• Romance/online dating
• Money transfers

Victims of Crime: U.S. citizen victims of sexual assault are encouraged to contact the U.S. Embassy for assistance. Report crimes to the local police at 112 and contact the Embassy at 2259-1001. Remember that local authorities are responsible for investigating and prosecuting crime.

• Assist you in reporting a crime to the police
• Contact relatives or friends with your written consent
• Provide general information regarding the victim’s role during the local investigation and following its conclusion.
• Provide a list of local attorneys
• Provide our information on victim’s compensation programs in the U.S.
• Provide an emergency loan for repatriation to the United States and/or limited medical support in cases of destitution
• Help you find accommodation and arrange flights home
• Replace a stolen or lost passport

Domestic Violence: Victims of domestic violence are encouraged to contact the Embassy for assistance.

Tourism: The tourism industry is generally regulated according to best practices and safety inspections and rules are regularly enforced. Hazardous areas/activities are identified with appropriate signage and professional staff is typically on hand in support of organized activities. In the event of an injury, adequate medical treatment is available throughout the country. U.S. citizens are encouraged to purchase medical evacuation insurance. Local Laws & Special Circumstances

Criminal Penalties: You are subject to local laws. Individuals who violate local laws, even unknowingly, may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned. Individuals establishing a business or practicing a profession that requires additional permits and licensing should seek information from the competent local authorities, prior to practicing or operating a business.

Alcohol and Drugs:

• Possession of alcohol and/or narcotics is illegal.
• Convictions for possession, use, and trafficking of drugs may include heavy fines, long jail sentences, or the death penalty.

The following actions are illegal and may also lead to prosecution, imprisonment, and immediate deportation:

• Humiliating or insulting any person verbally or through obscene gestures in a public place, including a police officer, public official, or private citizen.
• Taking pictures or video clips of government buildings, military installations, and oil-related infrastructure or of people without the subject’s knowledge or consent.
• Having unpaid debts.
• Driving without a Kuwait driver’s license after obtaining a residence permit.
• Prostitution and pornography.

Arrest Notification: If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify the U.S. Embassy immediately. See our webpage for further information.

Travel Bans:  Business disputes, court orders to pay a settlement, immigration violations, or government investigations into both criminal and civil issues may result in the imposition of a travel ban, which will prohibit departure from Kuwait until the issue is resolved and the travel ban is lifted. U.S. citizens in Kuwait who are involved in disputes or investigations can check whether they have a travel ban by entering their civil ID number on the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior website, found here . Since multiple Kuwaiti government agencies can impose travel bans, this database is not exhaustive. More information on travel bans in Kuwait is available here . 

Children Born Out of Wedlock: Sexual relations outside of marriage are a criminal offense. Parents may not be able to obtain a Kuwait birth certificate or residence permit for a child born out of wedlock and may be subject to prosecution and/or fines to document the birth of the child.

Customs: Alcohol, pork products, and pornography are prohibited.

Counterfeit and Pirated Goods: Although counterfeit and pirated goods are prevalent in many countries, they may still be illegal according to local laws. You may also pay fines or have to give them up if you bring them back to the United States. See the U.S. Department of Justice website for more information.

LGBTQI+ Travelers: Consensual same-sex sexual activity between men is illegal. The law punishes consensual intercourse between men of full age (21 and older) with imprisonment of up of to seven years. Men of full age who engage in consensual intercourse with men under age 21 may be imprisoned up to ten years. No laws criminalize same-sex sexual activity between women. Some LGBTQI+ travelers have reported difficulties entering Kuwait on a passport bearing a name and photo that do not correspond to their gender identity or expression.  Transgender individuals have reported harassment, detention, abuse, and assault by security forces.  Societal discrimination and harassment based on sexual orientation and gender identity is common.

Travelers Who Require Accessibility Assistance: Accessibility and accommodations in Kuwait are different from those in the United States. The law prohibits discrimination against persons with permanent physical, sensory, intellectual, and mental disabilities in employment, education, air travel and other transportation, access to health care, or the provision of other government services. The law also mandates access to buildings for persons with disabilities.

 Public transportation is generally inaccessible for patrons with disabilities. Accessible parking spaces are marked, but often unavailable. Most medical facilities and public buildings have wheelchair ramps and elevators. Access to sign language interpretation is limited; Americans needing American Sign Language interpretation should plan ahead and have contact information for companies offering distance interpretation services through mobile phone apps, video phones, and other modalities.

Women Travelers: Many public places have dress codes for women requiring shoulders and knees to be covered. Women, especially those traveling alone, should exercise particular caution on public transit, when traveling via taxi, and in conservative or isolated areas. Healthcare is adequate and accessible both in the government-run system and many private institutions. The government facilities provide services for foreigners at reasonable costs, and payment for all services is expected in advance. Government facilities offer more specialty care services, though wait times are often long and difficult to access for non-nationals. Psychological and psychiatric services are limited, even in the larger cities, with hospital-based care only available through government institutions. Some medical services are below U.S. standards. Most prescription and over-the-counter medicines are readily available at pharmacies. Emergency services are generally very responsive.

• Ambulance services are widely available in certain areas but training and availability of emergency responders may be below U.S. standards.

We do not pay medical bills:  Be aware that U.S. Medicare/Medicaid does not apply overseas. Most hospitals and doctors overseas do not accept U.S. health insurance.

Medical Insurance:  Make sure your health insurance plan provides coverage overseas. Most care providers in Kuwait will accept cash or credit card payments. We strongly recommend  supplemental insurance  to cover medical evacuation.

Always carry your prescription medication in original packaging, along with your doctor’s prescription. Check with the  Embassy of Kuwait  in Washington, DC, the  Consulate General of Kuwait in Los Angeles ,  the Consulate General of Kuwait in New York City , or the Kuwait General Administration for Customs (Email :  [email protected] . Telephone: (+965) 24955000, Fax: (+965) 24838056) to ensure the medication is legal in Kuwait.

Vaccinations:  Be up-to-date on all vaccinations recommended by the  U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  (CDC) and the  Kuwait Ministry of Health . Please note that Kuwait’s vaccination requirements for residents are different and may require more inoculations than recommended by the CDC.

Air Quality:  Visit  AirNow Department of State  for information on air quality at U.S. Embassies and Consulates. Air pollution is a significant problem in Kuwait. Consider the impact seasonal smog and heavy particulate pollution may have on you, and consult your doctor before traveling if necessary.

People at the greatest risk from particle pollution exposure include:

• Infants, children, and teens
• People over 65 years of age
• People with lung disease such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema
• People with heart disease or diabetes
• People who work or are active outdoors

The U.S. Embassy maintains a list of private medical and dental clinics , and the Kuwaiti government maintains a list of  hospitals  and  pharmacies . We do not endorse or recommend any specific medical provider or clinic.

Travel and Transportation

Road Conditions and Safety: Driving in Kuwait is extremely hazardous due to excessive speeding, distracted driving, road rage, lax enforcement of traffic regulations, and a high volume of traffic. All major highways in Kuwait are dangerous due to excessive speeding. Roads have adequate signage. Passersby and emergency personnel react to accidents appropriately. Exercise increased caution when driving at night as some drivers do no use headlights. Drivers should avoid driving after heavy rainstorms or through standing water, be alert for flooded areas, and monitor local media for road closures and weather updates.

Traffic Laws:

• You are required to have your driver’s license with you at all times when operating a vehicle. There are no exceptions.
• Driving while intoxicated can result in fines, imprisonment, deportation, and/or revocation of your Kuwait driving license.
• It is against the law to use cell phones or text while driving.
• Use of seat belts is mandatory.
• Requests for bribes are uncommon.
• In case of emergency or traffic accident, call 112 .
• Involvement in an accident, whether or not you are at fault, can lead to arrest and detention. Immediately notify the police and remain at the scene until the police arrive.
• If you are injured in an accident that may result in a legal claim against you or that you wish to file against another party, you must seek medical attention at a public hospital. At the public hospital, an investigator will document your injuries. Failure to do this will limit your ability to seek legal remedy for any injuries you have suffered.
• At-fault accidents can result in arrests, demands for financial restitution, and/or travel bans preventing you from leaving Kuwait. Police at checkpoints may fine motorists arbitrarily.
• Traffic cameras capture stop light and speeding violations.
• Nonpayment of traffic and parking fines can result in seizure of your vehicle and travel bans. This means you cannot leave Kuwait until all fines and penalties are paid. You can pay traffic fines online through the MOI’s online portal .

Public Transportation:

• Use only marked and licensed taxis. Taxis are available at major hotels and by telephone.
• Do not sit in the front seat of taxis with the driver.
• Do not allow the driver to pick up unknown passengers or enter a taxi occupied by someone in addition to the driver.
• Be aware of the route driven by the taxi driver and ensure that the driver does not take you to an unfamiliar area.
• As with driving personal vehicles, remember to vary routes and times when utilizing taxis.
• Women should exercise increased caution when riding public buses due to sexual harassment.

What you need to know.

The Kuwait online visa is a single-entry visa that allows travelers to enter Kuwait for a maximum stay of 90 days in Total .

The purpose of the trip must be tourism.

You should carry at all times your e-Visa on a personal device (phone/tablet/computer) or as a printed copy.

Travelers who want to visit Kuwait must have a passport valid for at least six months from the planned date of entry.

In addition to the online fee for the e-Visa you may be required, based on your nationality, to pay a fee of approx. 10 USD / 3 KD upon arrival to Kuwait.

GCC resident applicants:

If you are a resident of a GCC country (Saudi Arabia-Bahrain-Qatar-United Arab Emirates-Oman), you can also apply online using proof of your GCC residency card (valid for at least 6 months).

To qualify for this eVisa, GCC applicants should be one of the following: consultant, doctor, engineer, lawyer, judge/member of public prosecution, university teacher, press/media staff, pilot, system analyst/computer programmer, manager, businessperson, diplomatic corps, university graduate, owner, manager or representative of a commercial company or establishment.

The applicant must not have any security restrictions preventing them from entering or exiting the country.

IMPORTANT: Kuwait Visas are not processed on weekends (Friday and Saturday).

What is the Kuwait visa?

You can ONLY apply online IF you have residency (exceeding 6 months when applying for e-Visa) from any of the following GCC countries : Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Oman.

A copy of the Sponsor's GCC residency must also be sent with your e-Visa application, as well as for dependents such as a spouse, child, domestic labor, etc., who will be presented with you on arrival.

The applicant's work according to the GCC residency should be one of the following: Consultants, Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Judges & Members of Public Prosecution, University Teachers, Press & Media Staff, Pilots, System Analysts & Computer Programmers, Managers, Businessmen, Diplomatic Corps, University Graduates – Owners, Managers, and Representatives of Commercial Companies and Establishments.

What should I do if the data on the processed e-Visa does not match my passport?

Data inconsistency between the e-Visa and your passport will render the e-Visa invalid. You will need to re-apply, making sure that the information matches exactly. If you find errors in your application, please inform us ASAP.

Can I apply online if I do not have a valid passport but a temporary travel document?

No, unfortunately, you can't apply online if you do not have a valid passport with at least 6 months of validity. Contact the nearest Kuwait embassy for more info.

Step-By-Step Guide Of Applying For US Tourist Visa in Kuwait

STEP 1 : Go to this website and fill up the DS-160 Form (Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application). You may read our guide on How to Fill Up the DS160 Form Online .

STEP 2 : For the Non-Immigrant B1/B2 US visa, the visa fee is USD 160. You will have to pay it in Kuwaiti Dinar according to the exchange rate here . Visa fees are paid in cash at Burgan Bank branches except the one in the airport. You’ll need the reference number for the next step. Here are further instructions on how to pay.

STEP 3 : You will need to schedule an appointment online or through their call center. Though I think the online is much better. You must have the following details to push through:

• Passport Number
• CGI reference number
• 10-digit barcode number from the confirmation of your DS-160

STEP 4 : Proceed to the US Embassy on your scheduled date. Be there 15 minutes before your appointment. Please be reminded that no cellphones are allowed inside the Embassy. You may need to bring these documents:

• Appointment Letter
• DS-160 Confirmation Page
• One Recent Photograph (must be the same as the one you passed in your DS-160)
• Current and Old Passport
• Copy of your Kuwait Iqama/ Residency Card
• Supporting Documents (this is not required but may help you in case the Consul asks)

STEP 5 : Get interviewed by the Consul. After the interview, you will know the result if you are approved or denied. Take note of when to come back to the Embassy to claim your visa.

US Tourist Visa Supporting Documents

Here are the documents you may bring during your appointment. There will be times the consul officer will ask for one, but sometimes, if one gets lucky, they won’t ask you for one. It will depend on your answers or circumstances. It’s better to be prepared in case the interviewer will ask.

1. Financial Proof

• Bank Statements or Bank Certificate
• Certificate of Employment or Payslips
• Iqama/Residency Card
• In case you are sponsored by another person, proof of their financial means

2. Proof of Travel

• Flight Reservations
• Hotel or Accommodation Bookings

3. No Objection Letter – from your Employer with your details like salary, position, etc.

4. Criminal or Court Records – if applicable

5. For students – Certificate from the school or proof of enrolment

6. In case you are visiting a friend or relative – proof of relationship and their US Identification (e.g., Passport, Green Card, or Resident Permit)

Tips with your Interview for your US Tourist Visa

There will be a brief interview with the consul officer. Here are some tips that may help you:

• Dress Appropriately – Look what you say you are. Coat and Tie nor dresses or gowns are needed. You just dress according to who you are. However, don’t go there too casual, e.g., sleeveless, shorts, sleepwear, as you may not be allowed to enter the Embassy.
• Confidence is the key – being nervous might affect your interview; you may stutter or not understand the question and answer incorrectly. We all get a bit nervous, I know, however, you must walk, smile, and talk confidently with the Consul. Grab that opportunity to have a US visa. Practice with a friend or in the mirror days before your interview.
• Be Politeness – Don’t argue with the interviewer. Be respectful. In case you don’t understand the question, you may ask the interviewer to repeat or clarify it. They are just people; they won’t bite you. I promise.
• Less Talk, Less Mistake – Answer concisely – with a yes or no. Don’t overshare. You might say something you’ll regret later, as you will get grilled by the interviewer. For example, you are applying for a tourist visa but overshared that you will be meeting your boyfriend and getting married, etc. and you might get asked for proof of relationship, but you haven’t prepared it.
• Be Honest – Don’t lie during your interview; the interviewers have been trained to notice whose lying or not. Previous interviews are also accounted for. One time there was a person before me who was asked if he planned to study in the US before and said no. He got denied because the last time he was interviewed, he did say he was planning to do so.

1. How much show money do I need?

There isn’t really a specific amount but maybe enough money to get by. Sometimes, the interviewers don’t even ask for a copy of the bank statement. But better carry one in case they want it.

2. What if my visa gets denied? Is there a time limit as to when I can re-apply?

You can re-apply. There’s no limit in an application for a US Visa.

3. Is the visa fee refundable?

No, it is non-refundable, even though you will not schedule an appointment. Once it is paid, you can’t get it back.

4. What could make the Consul change his mind and grant my visa on re-application?

There should be a “significant change” on your situation, whether it’s family, economic, or social. For example, you didn’t have a source of income on your previous application, but you’re employed/you have a business now.

5. How long is the validity of the US Visa?

It could range from 3 months to Ten Years (Multiple-Entry), it will depend on your interviewer.

6. Do I need to have travel insurance ?

I always recommend having travel insurance when you are out of the country. You might not know what happens.

Kuwait Sees Increase in Visit Visas Under New Expat Guidelines

KUWAIT CITY, Jul 7: With Kuwait opening up to expatriates under the guidelines and requirements announced by the Ministry of Interior, Kuwait has seen a significant increase in the entry of visitors from various nationalities over the past four months. The procedures for submitting visit requests have been streamlined, resulting in an average of 8,700 visit visas issued per week across the six governorates. These visas fall into three categories: family, tourism, and commercial.

Brigadier Mazid Al-Mutairi, Assistant Director General of the General Administration for Residency Affairs, provided a breakdown of the average weekly visa issuance: approximately 2,000 business visit visas, 2,900 family visit visas, and 3,800 tourist visit visas were issued.

Al-Mutairi further stated that the decision to open all types of visit visas was directed by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef. The visas are available to all nationalities under specific rules and regulations, which require sponsors to adhere to set conditions and visitors to respect the country’s laws.

He noted that during the recent period, visa holders have largely adhered to the duration of their visits, departing once their period ended. This compliance indicates a high level of awareness and respect for Kuwait’s laws among both visitors and sponsors, resulting in a very low percentage of violations, reports Al Rai.

Al-Mutairi highlighted the steps taken by the Residence Affairs Investigations Department when a visitor does not comply with the visa duration. Initially, a notification is sent via the “Sahel” application to the sponsor, followed by an SMS text message. If the violation persists, the sponsor is contacted after five to seven days and asked to review the case with the Residence Affairs Investigations Department.

He emphasized that strict measures are enforced on violating sponsors, starting with warnings and potentially leading to a ban on sponsoring visit visas. In severe cases, the visitor may be arrested, and penalties imposed on the sponsor.

Al-Mutairi stated that visit visas are granted smoothly within 15 to 30 minutes if the application meets the conditions. Sponsors can visit the Residence Affairs Department according to their residential address, and decentralization is promoted to avoid unnecessary complications for those seeking visit visas.

Regarding the nationalities most frequently entering Kuwait, Al-Mutairi revealed the top seven: Americans, British, Turks, Jordanians, Egyptians, Indians, and Syrians.

He concluded by stating that while Kuwait remains open to visitors under established standards, strict measures are enforced on both sponsors and visitors who violate the laws. The Residence Affairs Investigations Department has a clear plan to ensure compliance and accountability.
