Earth Towers of the Hakkas in Fujian is well-known for its long history, unique style, large scale, exquisite structure, varied functions and rich connotation. These buildings were constructed using fire-resistive material and therefore practically impregnable.

The ones that are round in shape are the most famous. Most of the round buildings are three stories high with a diameter of 70-80 meters. The formation of the Earth buildings amplify the wisdom and creativeness of the ancestors of the Hakkas settlers in Yongding County and Nanjing County, Fujian.

No. 0 4: Peitian Village 培田古村

Peitian Village is located in Liancheng County of Longyan City in west Fujian. It is about 100km northeast of Longyan and 300km northeast of Xiamen. The Ming and Qing building complex has been well preserved with a history of over 800 years.

The cluster of the ancient Ming and Qing buildings in the Peitian Village is one of the three kinds of vernacular Hakkak dwellings. The other two are Tulou (clay buildings) in Southwest Fujian and Weilong Wu (circled dragon houses) in Meizhou of east Guangdong.

No. 5: Three Lanes and Seven Alleys in Fuzhou 三坊七巷

Three Lanes and Seven Alleys ( Sanfang Qixiang in Chinese) is a national 5A level tourist attraction in F u zhou. It is one of the remaining historic districts in the old city of Fuzhou after the city urbanization process. Fuzhou is the source of history, the root of culture, cultural prosperity.

Since Jin and Tang Dynasties, the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys had been the settlements of aristocrats and scholar-officials, and they became brilliant from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China.

There are about 270 ancient dwellings in this area, and 159 of them have been listed as protected buildings. Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, represented by nine typical buildings such as the former residences of Shen Baozhen, Lin Jemin and Yan Fu, have been declared as national key cultural relic protection units by the State Council.

No. 0 6: Kaiyuan Temple 泉州开元寺

Kaiyuan Temple, which is situated in West Street of Quanzhou City, is the largest temple in Fujian Province. The temple is one of the outstanding examples of Chinese architecture and art.

Flying musicians are carved on pillars that support the roof of the Hall of One Hundred Pillars. The two pagodas that stand opposite each other in front of the main hall in the temple, Purple Cloud Hall, are octagonal five-tier stone buildings with exquisite carvings. Two images of Buddha are carved on each of the eight sides. Forty ancient Buddhist tales are inscribed on the walls of one of the pagodas.

No. 0 7: Mount Taimu 太姥山

Taimu Mountain, located in the northeast of Fujian Province. In a narrow sense, Taimu Mountain refers to the mountainous area centered on Fuding Peak in Qinyu Town in the south of Fuding City. It is also the core area of Taimu Mountain Scenic Spot. It is 45 kilometers south of Fuding City. It stands on the shore of the East China Sea, facing the sea on three sides and backing mountains on one side. The main peak is 917.3 meters above sea level.

Taimu Mountain is the only mountain peak forest landform developed on the terrain of granite hills in China, and also the only mountain peak forest landform in the Jingdong granite belt in China. It was listed in the World Geopark in 2010.

No. 08 Taining World Geological Park 泰宁世界地质公园

Taining Scenic Area: Taining World Geological Park, the national geological park, the national key cultural relics protection units, the national non-material cultural heritage, one of China top ten famous town charm, the Chinese excellent tourism county.

The main landscape features are water Danxia, canyon community, cave wonders and primitive ecology, which is a collection of singularity, diversity, leisure and culture.

The park is a comprehensive geopark with the typical youth Danxia landform as the main body and various geological relics such as volcanic rock, granite and tectonic landform.

No. 09: Meizhou Island 湄洲岛

Meizhou Island, only 1.82 nautical miles away from the mainland, is located 42 kilometers southeast of Putian City, Fujian. It has a land area of 14.35 square kilometers and a population of 38,000 with the coastline of 30.4 kilometers. The island is 9.6 kilometers long from north to south and 1.3 kilometers wide from east to west.

Meizhou island, known as “Southland Penglai” boasts the Mazu Temple, the gold beaches, the little stone forest and more scenic spots. Especially It is known for being the birthplace of the goddess Mazu. The Heavenly Empress Palace-Meizhou Ancestral Temple has now been renovated and greatly enlarged to accommodate pilgrims.

In 1998, Meizhou Island was designated as an open tourism economic zone of Fujian Province. In 1992, it was established as a national tourism resort. In December 2020, Meizhou Island was listed as a national AAAAA scenic spot.

No. 10: Xiapu 霞浦

Xiapu County was established in Qing Dynasty in the year of 1734. Now it is under the adminsitration of Ningde City, in the northeast of Fujian Province.

It is located in a coastal peninsular area with the coastline of 505 kilometers. There are more than 400 islands in Xiapu. The long coastline and numerous islands and harbors have become the geographical characteristics of Xiapu.

Cross-Strait Guandi Culture and Tourism Festival held in Dongshan, Fujian

The 16th Straits Forum and the 33rd Cross-Strait Guandi Culture and Tourism Festival opened in Dongshan, a coastal county in Zhangzhou, East China's Fujian province, on Tuesday, to celebrate the time-honored Guandi culture and foster cross-Strait exchanges.

Guandi refers to Guan Yu, a revered general from the late Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220), admired for his courage and loyalty. The worship of Guan Yu is still prevalent throughout China today.

This year's festival attracted more than 1,500 people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait. The opening ceremony featured performances by opera masters from six different traditional opera forms, including Kunqu Opera, Peking Opera and Yuju Opera, who showcased classical excerpts that highlighted the heroic charm of Guan Yu.

Heavy rainfall in fujian destroys first hakka ancestral hall.

(ECNS) -- The Li Clan Ancestral Hall, known as the "First Ancestral Hall of Hakka," in East China's Fujian Province, collapsed on Sunday after six hours of water saturation caused by heavy rain, with some artifacts buried under the debris. 

The collapse affected the guest rooms on the east and west sides of the hall.

The preliminary investigation shows that the rammed earth wall became severely soaked, causing the soil to soften and lose its support.

Located in Shanghang County, Longyan City of Fujian, the ancestral hall is a valuable heritage site under State protection in China. 

Yao Hongfeng, professor of historical building conservation engineering at Fujian University of Technology, said that the ancestral hall can be restored due to sufficient preservation of information, according to cnr.cn. 

A staff member of the Li Clan Ancestral Hall said “the local government has cordoned off the area around the ancestral hall to prevent pedestrians from approaching. 

The hall was built in 1836 by descendants of the Li clan to commemorate Li Huode, who first settled in Fujian. It is one of the most influential ancestral halls in Fujian, and serves as a bridge of fellowship between the descendants of the clan in China and overseas.
