Helloween (formed in 1984) is a German power metal and speed metal band, who are extolled by many for pioneering the power metal genre introduced by their 1987 album “Keeper of the Seven Keys, Pt. 1”, hailing from Hamburg, Germany.

Originally comprised of vocalist and guitarist Kai Hansen, guitarist Michael Weikath, bassist Markus Grosskopf, and drummer Ingo Schwchtenberg, in 1984 Halloween signed with Noise Records. The group’s recording debut came with a pair of tracks for the Noise Records compilation “Death Metal”, featuring label-mates Hellhammer, Running Wild, and Dark Avenger. Halloween’s debut self-titled EP was released in 1985 earning a spread of positive reviews. Featuring the intensity of speed metal and introducing the band to a wide audience, the record was followed by the full-length album “Walls of Jericho” in October 1985. Once again proving popular among fans, the album would be the last before Helloween took the reigns of a new power metal genre, becoming pioneers of a new sound.

A subsequent EP “Judas”, released in 1986, marked the removal of Kai Hansen as vocalist, who had been unable to fulfil both singing and guitar duties. Hansen moved to playing just guitar and vocal responsibilities fell to 18-year old Hamburg local Michael Kiske, who recorded on Helloween’s sophomore album “Keeper of the Seven Keys, Pt. 1”. Dubbed the album that invented power metal, the record earned widespread critical acclaim and peaked at No. 15 on the German Album Chart. A year later the album’s follow-up “Keeper of the Seven Keys, Pt. 2” was released, with which the single “I Want Out” was generously featured on MTV in support of its “Headbager’s Ball”. The group subsequently supported Anthrax on the Headbanger’s Ball Tour, exposing the group to a U.S. audience, and ultimately paving the way for worldwide success.

Guitarist Hansen left the band following the European leg of the “Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II” tour and was replaced by Roland Grapow. The live album “Live in the U.K.” arrived in 1989 after which Halloween experienced difficulties with Noise Records, which resulted in the band not putting out any new material until 1991’s “Pink Bubbles Go Ape”. Spawning the singles “Kids of the Century” and “Number One”, the record was most popular in Scandinavia but also found modest success in Austria, Japan, and the UK. Adopting synthesisers, horns, and acoustic guitars for their next release, 1993’s “Chameleon”, peaked at No. 8 in Japan despite performing poorly elsewhere. The band’s supporting tour highlighted a tumultuous period for the group and by 1993 Helloween were without singer Kiske and drummer Abdel-Nabi. A year later, with vocalist Andi Deris and drummer Uli Kusch, Halloween reappeared to release “Master of the Rings”, marking a return to form for the band. Following the suicide of former drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg, the band issued the tribute album “The Time of the Oath” which saw Halloween return to the heights of the European metal hierarchy. The full-length “Better Than Raw” followed in 1998, supported by a relentless world tour including dates in Europe, Japan, Brazil, and the U.S.

An album of Scorpions, Jethro Tull, Faith No More, and ABBA covers appeared in 1999 entitled “Metal Jukebox”, following which the band released their ninth studio album “The Dark Ride” in 2000. Guitarist Grapow and drummer Kusch were let go after the release and were replaced by Sascha Gerstner and Mark Cross respectively, who recorded on “Rabbit Don’t Come Easy” in 2003. The full-length “Gambling with the Devil” hit the shelves in 2007, followed three years later by “7 Sinners” in 2010. 2013’s “Straight Out of Hell” was led by the single “Burning Sun”, and suceeded by the full-length “My God-Given Right” in 2015.

Live reviews

Helloween was phenominal. From the first song "Helloween" through the final encore song "I Want Out" Helloween gave the crowd a heavy dose of German Power Metal that one could only hope to experience. Andi Deris and Michael Kiske worked the crowd and were fantastic vocalists sharing the same stage as Kai Hansen, Sascha Gerstener, and Michael Weikath pounded the crowd with unyeilding guitar work. Markus Graosskopf (bass) and Daniel Loble (drums) were the same. The stage show was very good as well.

My only complaint is the the venue, Concord Music Hall. It may be a fine venue for smaller crowd, but fans showed up in droves and filled the Hall to capacity to the point where no one could barely move (because we were packed in like sardines). The stage certainly appeared to be way undersized for Helloween's band members to move around and the video effects were almost rendered inneffective. I certainly am not blaming the Concord Music Hall for these woes, but management for underestimating Helloween's popularity in the States. Only a few shows were booked for North America to the point where my son and I drove the 500 miles to Chicago (beautiful City by the way) from Pittsburgh to see the band. I am sure tha there are other fans who did something similar.

All in all though, I would do it all over again because the band was that great and as I said earlier, simply phenominal. The Pumpkins United Tour was a success in so many ways and it is a shame that more fans could not be exposed to it.

If you happen to have the chance to see the Pumpkins United tour, and are even a casual fan of Helloween, I would advise that you take advantage of attending their show if possible!

Great show delivered with enthusiasm to an appreciative audience. Helloween has been delivering power metal since the '80s. In fact, I saw them back in '89 when they warmed up for Queensryche on the Operation Mindcrime tour. Of course, that was back when Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske were still around.

Anyway, Andi Deris does a fantastic job with the vocals these days and quite frankly, the albums that have come out since 2000, including Dark Ride, Gambling with the Devil, 7-Sinners, Straight out of Hell, and the namesake of the current tour My God-Given Right are the hardest rocking the band has made.

Well, the band dipped into all of those albums and more on Tuesday at the Playstation in NYC. The dual guitarist fronted metal is lick filled and in your face. Like Jack Black said, it's a face melter.

The crowd was a mix of old guard Helloween fans (you could tell by the thinning hair and 20 year old tour jackets) and young brash headbangers looking to be kicked in the teeth. No one should have left disappointed. The band rocked for the better part of two hours and was able to enlist the crowd's help on several sing alongs.

The venue has decent acoustics and sight lines. Drink prices are typical of NYC bars.

If you get a chance to catch Helloween on this your, get it done. They're not going to be able to continue at this level for ever. I for one am glad I caught them this time around and sincerely hope the crew has a couple more albums in them.

Power metal has been an integral genre to the musical landscape of Germany and one of the country's most internationally recognised groups is Helloween. If only for their incredible band name, this group of performers have been tearing a blistering trial since they formed way back in 1984. The lineup has gone through a variety of alterations yet fortunately for fans the musical identity and intense live show has remained the group's incredibly strong constant.

Michael Weikath stomps out onto the stage tonight and raises his hands in command for larger cheers before he allows guitarists Markus Grosskopf and Sascha Gerstner to rip into the introducing strings of 'Wanna Be God'. With almost a thousand appearances around the globe, this group's seem completely at home onstage and they know their discography inside out yet this does not mean that the show is static in any way this evening. There is a deep pulsating darkness running through all their tracks and an instrumental extremity tying everything together which is in turn fuelled by the huge enthusiasm of the fanbase. They cheer one final rapturous time as the final beats of 'Power' fade and stop rippling the battered speaker system.

What’s better than metal you ask? Why, I think this audience would say. THRASH METAL, their hands raised in the horn position as they make an excruciatingly painful face, but hey, each to their own. This band has been doing what they’re doing for almost thirty years. Formed in Germany in 1984, they have released four EPs, and 15 studio albums. All of which are on sale tonight, in this pretty cool metal flight case. The distortion is set to high, with the gain turned up to eleven as they deliver their thrashing guitar riffs, complete with blast beats on the drums. Tonight they perform a slew of some of their biggest singles such as “Sole Survivor” which has people with their horns up in the air throughout the song from start to finish. “Mr Ego” follows. One of the things that I wonder with this band is why they released so much material; maybe they’re more of a studio band than a live band. Their peers Metallica have seen a career the same length as theirs but with half the amount of albums. Fair play to them.

Fantastic! Amazing! No words to describe a dream concert with the classic line-up and a big enthouasmic from the band. In Madrid, at least, it was very special, with more than 12.000 people waiting for them, waiting for this reunion.

Helloween Announce 2023 North American Tour With HammerFall

Power metal legends Helloween will be returning to North America in 2023, on tour with special guest HammerFall .

They last visited the U.S. and Canada prior to release last year's self-titled album, debuting the lineup that now features classic members Michael Kiske (vocals) and Kai Hansen (guitar vocals), both of whom rejoined in 2017.

With three distinct eras of the band now performing as one, it's hard to argue there has ever been a better time to be a Helloween fan than these last few years, especially after their remarkably strong 2021 album, which they're now supporting on the road.

"We are very delighted and enchanted to tell you that we're coming to the U.S. and Canada pretty soon, actually. We expect you to be there and rock with us," says Hansen in a video promo for the upcoming run. "You're going to be there otherwise you're in big trouble," adds bassist Markus Grosskopf, "I expect you there!"

Joining Helloween will be Sweden's HammerFall, who also served as their guest on a recent European tour. They'll be touting their latest album,  Hammer of Dawn , which came out in February.

The 13-date trek will stretch from May 13 through June 3 and you can view the complete list of stops further down the page. Tickets will go on sale on Sept. 30 at 10AM local time and you can find more ticketing information at Helloween's website .

HELLOWEEN Announces Spring 2023 North American Tour With HAMMERFALL

helloween tour 23

German power metallers HELLOWEEN will embark on the “United Forces” tour of North America in May 2023. Support on the 13-date trek will come from Swedish metallers HAMMERFALL . Tickets will go on sale on Friday, September 30 at 10 a.m. local time.

HELLOWEEN singer Andi Deris comments: “We can’t wait to be back and celebrate our new album with our fans in the U.S. and Canada!”

HAMMERFALL says: “ HAMMERFALL will accompany HELLOWEEN on their North American tour next year! The highly successful ‘United Forces’ tour will continue across the ocean in May and June, serving as the perfect prelude to the summer. You asked for it so here we go!”

HELLOWEEN & HAMMERFALL 2023 Tour dates:

May 13 – Dallas, TX – The Factory May 16 – St. Petersburg, FL – Jannus Live May 18 – Silver Spring, MD – The Fillmore May 20 – New York, NY – Terminal 5 May 21 – Worcester, MA – The Palladium May 23 – Toronto, ON – History May 24 – Royal Oak, MI – Royal Oak Music Hall May 26 – Chicago, IL – The Riviera May 27 – Minneapolis, MN – The Fillmore May 30 – Denver, CO – Ogden Theatre Jun. 01 – Las Vegas, NV – Brooklyn Bowl Jun. 02 – Los Angeles, CA – YouTube Theater Jun. 03 – San Francisco, CA – The Warfield

June 2021 saw the release of HELLOWEEN ‘s self-titled studio album . Adored by fans and critics alike, the record catapulted straight to the charts, earning the No. 1 position in Germany and Spain, the Top 5 of seven countries, and the Top 15 multiple times worldwide.  HELLOWEEN ‘s new album saw the legendary German power metallers going “back to the roots,” with the band recording fully analogue and Löble playing the drum kit previously used by HELLOWEEN ‘s original drummer, the late Ingo Schwichtenberg , on the legendary “Keeper Of The Seven Keys” recordings.

Produced by Charlie Bauerfeind and Dennis Ward , the new HELLOWEEN LP was recorded in part at the H.O.M.E. Studios in Hamburg (where everything started in 1984). The same recording console used for such HELLOWEEN albums as “Master Of The Rings” , “Time Of The Oath” and “Better Than Raw” was utilized to record the band’s new material. The effort was mixed at the Valhalla Studios of Ronald Prent ( IRON MAIDEN , DEF LEPPARD , RAMMSTEIN ).

The “Pumpkins United” lineup features returning singer Michael Kiske and guitarist/vocalist Kai Hansen alongside frontman Andi Deris , guitarists Michael Weikath and Sascha Gerstner , bassist Markus Grosskopf and drummer Daniel Löble .

The “Pumpkins United” tour marked the first time Kiske had played live with HELLOWEEN since 1993. Hansen , who departed HELLOWEEN in 1988, had been joining the band onstage on various tours and festival appearances throughout the years. The set featured several duets with Kiske and his replacement, Deris , along with many rarely played songs, including “Kids Of The Century” , “Rise And Fall” and “Livin’ Ain’t No Crime” . Hansen — who fronted HELLOWEEN until late 1986 — sang a medley of several early HELLOWEEN classics, including “Ride The Sky”, “Judas”, “Starlight” and “Heavy Metal (Is The Law)” .

HAMMERFALL ‘s latest studio album, “Hammer Of Dawn” , was released in February via Napalm Records . The LP was produced by longtime collaborator Fredrik Nordström ( IN FLAMES , OPETH ),who handled mixing, mastering, drum recording, and shared the duty of recording guitars and bass with guitarists Pontus Norgren and Oscar Dronjak . Jacob Hansen ( VOLBEAT ) produced the lead vocals.

As one of the main forces in heavy metal, HAMMERFALL have dominated not only the Swedish album charts, but album charts across Europe throughout their extensive career, while earning gold status thrice. Faced with the daunting task of following up the band’s last studio album, “Dominion” , an album that fans and critics hailed as one of the band’s strongest releases, HAMMERFALL collectively met the challenge head on and have delivered what many early listeners are predicting as the best metal album of 2022 and a high point of the band’s catalog.

Singer Joacim Cans stated about the new album: “It’s hard to describe in words how extremely happy and proud I am about the outcome of ‘Hammer Of Dawn’ . It was a struggle, for sure, but in the end we pulled it off and delivered a solid, vital and positive new album. Everyone is on top of his game and together we have created yet another milestone in HAMMERFALL history.”

Watch: HELLOWEEN Kicks Off Spring 2023 North American Tour In Dallas

German power metallers HELLOWEEN kicked off their "United Forces" tour of North America this past Saturday (May 13) at The Factory in Deep Ellum, Dallas, Texas. Support on the 13-date trek is coming from Swedish metallers HAMMERFALL . Fan-filmed video of HELLOWEEN 's performance can be seen below.

HELLOWEEN 's North American tour will close on June 3 in San Francisco, California.

In a recent interview with Belgian Jasper , Michael Kiske spoke about his personal chemistry with the other members of HELLOWEEN before and after the initial "Pumpkins United" tour, which saw the band reunite with Kiske and guitarist Kai Hansen . He said: "At first I thought the idea [was just to do a tour with the classic lineup]. At first I thought, without firing [ Kiske 's replacement] Andi [ Deris ] or anything, they just wanted to make a 'Keeper [Of The Seven Keys]' tour or something like that. But I realized it doesn't make sense because you create another HELLOWEEN that is sort of in competition with the HELLOWEEN of the last 20 years. And it was pretty quickly clear to me, 'It doesn't make sense. I agree.' Jan [ Bayati , HELLOWEEN 's manager] was putting that to me that it doesn't work: 'You guys have to do it together.'

"It's so great now," Kiske continued. "It has so many benefits. I get along with everybody. I have a special relationship with each individual. It's normal [because] everybody is different. I have a different relationship with Kai . We meet on a specific level, like we always have. That hasn't changed. My relationship with Weiki [ HELLOWEEN guitarist Michael Weikath ] is completely different to how it was, because Weiki is completely different. I'm different too, but he has changed completely . He used to be a troublemaker; he used to be someone [who would play] games behind your back. He's not at all like that anymore. The only thing he cares about is smoking a cigarette and having a good time. And he sticks out of all arguments and fights, and that has completely changed. He's like the most easygoing person ever. And Markus [ Grosskopf , HELLOWEEN bassist] is pretty much the same; he's just matured. He can express himself a lot better than he used to. When he was young, he wasn't able to put [his feelings] into words. But now he can. But he grew up too; he has matured too.

"The most important thing for me is that I get along with Andi so well," Kiske noted. "We even hang out privately. When we rehearse, for instance, we always sit together eating something, or somewhere outside or drink something or have a coffee or whatever. And that's perfect. And so you function on stage too, because all that works out. And that is something that I'm really happy with. If it wouldn't have been that way, I don't think we would still do it.

"We only made contracts for until after the first tour. We only made contracts for the 'Pumpkins United' tour. I think it was ending in 2018 or something, and the contracts were over. So if anybody wouldn't be up for it anymore, you would be free to leave. But since everything went down so well… we kind of thought, 'Well, how about a record?'"

Kiske 's first album back with HELLOWEEN , 2021's self-titled effort, landed in the Top 10 in more than 10 countries, including Germany, Spain, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland and Austria. The cover artwork for the LP was painted by artist Eliran Kantor , who has previously worked with HATEBREED , SOULFLY , TESTAMENT , ICED EARTH and SODOM , among others.

Produced by Charlie Bauerfeind and Dennis Ward , the latest HELLOWEEN LP was recorded in part at the H.O.M.E. Studios in Hamburg (where everything started in 1984). The same recording console used for such HELLOWEEN albums as "Master Of The Rings" , "Time Of The Oath" and "Better Than Raw" was utilized to record the band's new material. The effort was mixed at the Valhalla Studios of Ronald Prent ( IRON MAIDEN , DEF LEPPARD , RAMMSTEIN ).

"Helloween" saw the legendary German power metallers going "back to the roots," with the band recording fully analogue and Daniel Löble playing the drum kit previously used by HELLOWEEN 's original drummer, the late Ingo Schwichtenberg , on the legendary "Keeper Of The Seven Keys" recordings.

The "Pumpkins United" tour marked the first time Kiske had played live with HELLOWEEN since 1993. Hansen , who departed HELLOWEEN in 1988, had been joining the band onstage on various tours and festival appearances throughout the years. The set featured several duets with Kiske and his replacement, Deris , along with many rarely played songs, including "Kids Of The Century" , "Rise And Fall" and "Livin' Ain't No Crime" . Hansen — who fronted HELLOWEEN until late 1986 — sang a medley of several early HELLOWEEN classics, including "Ride The Sky" , "Judas" , "Starlight" and "Heavy Metal (Is The Law)" .

Helloween & Hammerfall Concert Review

May 23, 2023

Toronto, Canada @ History

Review/photos: Billy Klare

helloween tour 23

Helloween brought their United Forces 2023 world tour to Toronto, Canada on May 23 with special guests Hammerfall. This leg of the world tour includes this only Canadian date and twelve additional stops in the United States. Helloween return with the full “Pumpkins United” line-up including Kai Hansen (guitar / vocals), Andi Deris (vocals), Michael Kiske (vocals), Michael Weikath (guitar), Markus Grosskopf (bass), Sascha Gerstner (guitar) and Daniel Loble (drums). All four Helloween eras are represented with the original Kai led era, Kiske era, Deris era and the latest united version of the band.

I was fortunate enough to see the Pumpkins United tour in 2018 on three different occasions in Germany (Wacken Open Air), New York and Montreal. All three concerts were outstanding so my expectations were sky high for this Toronto show and I’m delighted to report it was another amazing Helloween performance. It’s clear this expanded version of the band still enjoys touring and playing together.

helloween tour 23

During the Pumpkins United tour, Helloween performed alone each night with lengthy extended sets but changed approach on this tour to include Sweden’s Hammerfall opening the show each night. Michael Kiske noted in recent interviews that show attendance is still uncertain in parts of Canada / USA so they wanted to diversify the line-up and help limit touring risk. Based on my previous personal experiences, the 2018 New York & Montreal shows were sold out but my friend attended the recent Dallas, USA show a week before this Toronto show and sadly the attendance was limited to just 300 – 350 people. I don’t know exact Toronto attendance numbers but I’m pretty sure it was at least a thousand strong and potentially more (it’s a large newer venue so difficult for me to judge).

The show started with Hammerfall playing their own brand of melodic power metal which was likely influenced by 1980’s Helloween to some degree. The Hammerfall setlist was surprisingly broad with at least one songs from most of their discography (12 or 13 songs in total). The crowd enjoyed the performance helping sing all the catchy choruses. I saw many fans wearing Hammerfall T-shirts that night. I’m more of a casual fan but really enjoyed “Blood Bound”, “Let The Hammer Fall”, “Any Means Necessary” and the last song of the night “Hearts on Fire”.

helloween tour 23

It was finally time for Helloween and the crowd was excited and eager to get started. The stage design was pretty straight forward. The elevated drum kit was surrounded by a large orange inflatable pumpkin with a large TV screen at the back of the stage playing various Helloween animation and other relevant clips throughout the show. The elevated drum riser provided room on each side that band members utilized during the show.

Helloween kicked off their set with “Skyfall” from the latest self-titled album released in 2021. They also played “Mass Pollution” and “Best Times” from the new record. While I enjoyed hearing the new songs live for the first time, they just don’t hold the same nostalgia factor for me like the older classic material. Similarly, audience reaction was generally positive for the new songs but not to the same extent as the classics.

helloween tour 23

The audience helped sing many of the old songs word-for-word including “Future World”, “Eagle Fly Free”, “Save Us”, “Dr. Stein” “How Many Tears” and the lengthy “Keeper of the Seven Keys”. I couldn’t wipe the smile of my face during these amazing songs that I grew up with. My one minor complaint of the night was the limited representation of the genius “Keepers I” album (only Future World was played). I certainly understand there’s no way to tackle everything on this tour with the band shifting to a normal set length and a new album of material to play. It’s clear to me the “Keepers I” and Deris era material was trimmed from the previous extended Pumpkin United sets.

There’s often significant debate in the Helloween community around the Andi Deris era of the band but I was a big fan from day one. We were treated to a few songs from some key Deris albums including “Perfect Gentleman”, “Power”, and “Forever and One”. Andi sounded great live which is no small task when your singing beside the legend that is Michael Kiske.

helloween tour 23

I loved the interaction and banter between Kiske and Deris as they sang together throughout the night. It’s evident to me they still enjoy performing together and egos are not getting in the way. It’s nice to see band cohesiveness remaining so strong. One key memory of the night was Kiske & Deris taking center stage sitting on stools singing “Forever and One” equally sharing the lines and chorus.

I continue to be impressed with Sasha on guitar who holds his own next to the legendary Hansen & Weikath which must be intimidating for a much younger guitarist sharing the stage with these metal veterans. Sasha has excellent stage presence and spoke to the crowd on multiple occasions, asking the audience at one point who was here from Quebec. He clearly knows the significance of the Montreal, Quebec metal scene and it’s importance within the overall Canadian metal scene. As a Montrealer, I thought that was pretty cool.

helloween tour 23

The best memory for me occurred mid-set when kai took over the vocal duties and performed a medley of “Metal Invaders”, “Victim of Fate”, “Gorgar” and “Ride The Sky” followed by “Heavy Metal (Is the Law)”. Kai’s voice hasn’t aged as well as Kiske or Deris but getting the opportunity to hear the earliest original Helloween songs led by Kai who started the band is priceless for a long-time Helloween fan. It’s heavy metal history and I’m glad this material remained in the reduced setlist.

The night ended on a high note with another classic Helloween song from Keepers II – “I Wan’t Out”. Significant audience singing participation encouraged by the band with large orange and black inflatable pumpkins falling into the audience. An incredible way to end a memorable night. Damn, I once again left the show without one of those coveted giant pumpkin souvenirs.

helloween tour 23

I highly recommend this 2023 United Forces Helloween tour. These are true legendary heavy metal musicians who reunited to bring the fans a very special show. I think it’s probably safe to say this touring event won’t last forever and no guarantees of another world tour with the same original members (especially for us Canadians & Americans who only get a few shows every few years). It’s worth taking a mini-vacation traveling to one of these tour stops if you can. You won’t regret it.

Note: The attached photographs were taken by me on my I-phone in the middle of the crowd and not intended to represent or replace professional level photography. I just wanted to share some clips from the show.

THE HEADBANGING MOOSE

Concert Review – Helloween (History, Toronto, ON, 05/23/2023)

The most beloved pumpkins in the universe finally returned to Toronto after a decade for a flawless night of old school, thrilling Heavy Metal, fists in the air and, believe it or not, a lot of mosh pits.

OPENING ACT: Hammerfall

helloween tour 23

The line for the merch stands was absolutely insane, concentrating perhaps more people than the crowd that was already positioning themselves for the opening act on the floor section, Sweden’s own Heavy/Power Metal horde HAMMERFALL , but as soon as the clock hit 7pm sharp and their concert started I think a good chunk of the fans waiting to buy merch abandoned their spots in line to enjoy the concert (and they made the right decision, of course). Although their latest albums are not something we can call “exciting” or “masterpieces” compared to their early discography, when Joacim Cans, Oscar Dronjak and crew hit the stage they showed Toronto everything they got with a solid setlist, playing songs from their 2022 album Hammer of Dawn as well as classics the likes of The Metal Age , Let the Hammer Fall and Hearts on Fire . The entire band was visibly happy to be in the city playing their music to an avid Torontonian crowd, making us all forget that it was Tuesday night, therefore looking more like a Friday night of fun and metal.

helloween tour 23

Although this was my first time seeing them with the three vocalists from all of their phases, I think it’s during this United Forces Tour that they started “breaking” their setlist in three different acts; the first one with Skyfall as an intro to the entire band and all vocalists; then from the majestic Eagle Fly Free (thank you, Kiske, for such flawless performance during that classic!) until the old school Heavy Metal (Is the Law) , Kiske, Deris and Hansen would take turns singing the songs; and finally, from then on they joined forces by singing all remaining songs together. I personally think that was an amazing way to entertain their fans during the entire show, keeping things fresh and vibrant until the very last second. Moreover, one of the nicest moments of their set was when they played the fast and metallic Save Us , not only providing us with one more unforgettable vocal performance by Kiske, but also igniting some sick mosh pits on the floor section. Yes, you read it correctly, mosh pits at a Helloween concert! That’s something you can only see in Canada, I guess! Not only that, Kai Hansen was also responsible for keeping the mosh pits moving well with his medley of old school German Heavy Metal anthems, including Metal Invaders , Ride the Sky , and especially Heavy Metal (Is the Law) , and if you’re familiar with those songs you know how furious a circle pit can get while they’re being played, right? Thank you, Kai Hansen, for being so metal!

helloween tour 23

The show was almost over, but not before Andi Deris got his famous top hat for their David Lee Roth-like classic Perfect Gentleman , followed by 13 minutes of pure metal awesomeness with Keeper of the Seven Keys . Damn, that was superb! And their coup de grâce came in the form of nothing more, nothing less than I Want Out , a genre-defining masterpiece that became even more thrilling with all the black and orange giant balloons thrown to the crowd. Try imagining mosh pits going on during such classic with those balloons flying around the venue. That’s how perfect the night was, got it? I was exhausted after all was said and done, but at the same time I was ready for more Helloween in Toronto (or anywhere else in the world), and hopefully it won’t take another decade for one of my beloved bands to return to the city. Toronto loves you, Michael Kiske! Toronto loves you, Andi Deris! Toronto loves you, Kai Hansen! Toronto loves you, Michael Weikath! Toronto loves you, Sascha Gerstner! Toronto loves you, Markus Grosskopf! And Toronto loves you, Dani Löble! Please come back to the city for more as soon as possible! You’ve got the POWER to return! You are divine!

HELLOWEEN signs contract with Reigning Phoenix Music - new studio album announced

Helloween-Signing-Feed.jpg

Hamburg (Germany), Los Angeles (California), February 2024 - Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM) announces the signing of legendary power metal institution HELLOWEEN for their upcoming studio album! Since their formation in 1984 and the spectacular reunion in 2017, HELLOWEEN is undoubtedly one of the world's outstanding representatives of the genre.

RPM proudly comments on the signing: "It is a true milestone for Reigning Phoenix Music to welcome HELLOWEEN to our family of artists. HELLOWEEN is not just a band, they epitomize the energy and passion of power metal. Their music has inspired generations, and we are proud to collaborate in order to reach new heights."

HELLOWEEN themselves are equally enthusiastic about the new partnership: "Sven Bogner and his team have convinced us with their ideas and enthusiasm. They live and love metal, and this is what connects us - we look forward to be working with them!" explains Andi Deris from HELLOWEEN.

The combination of HELLOWEEN and Reigning Phoenix Music promises a powerful synergy between one of the world's most influential power metal bands and a label that is passionate about promoting up-and-coming talents as well as established artists. Fans can look forward to thrilling musical experiences and innovative projects.

Specifically, HELLOWEEN will start working on new material from the summer and are planning to release a new studio album in 2025.

THANK YOU TO ALL HELLOWEEN MANIACS WORLDWIDE!!!

The world tour everyone longed-for since over two years took us to 26 countries on 3 continents. After several pandemic related postponements the UNITED FORCES TOUR finally ignited in England May 2022 and brought together more than 800.000 fans, catapulting you into an euphoric orbit for a year and a half!

Sold out headline shows in Los Angeles, New York and Sao Paulo, legendary highlights like the show at the Prague O2-Arena, the Schleyerhalle in Stuttgart, or in front of 14.000 metalheads in Santiago de Chile and our first ever sold out concert at the iconic Budokan in Tokyo – the Holy Grail and the ultimate accolade for every rock band!

Without a doubt there were tears in our eyes at the bombastic Hell & Heaven Festival in Mexico City, which closed the tour.

Waving the UNITED FORCES flag, we opened a new live chapter after more than 35 years of band history: all seven of us rocked the stages, side by side with colleagues like Kiss, Scorpions or Deep Purple and, for the second time we headlined the Wacken Open Air!

We want to send our thanks to all of you, our loyal fans in Europe, the United States, Canada, Central & South America and Asia. We are incredibly grateful that you kept your tickets even with all the ongoing postponements and, that you stayed true fans, waiting patiently to finally see us live.

As well, we would like to thank our friends in HAMMERFALL for accompanying us the majority of the dates and spicing up the tour with their pure Swedish metal, ensuring a sweaty, energetic and bombastic package.

Andi: „What a ride! This world tour was something special for all of us – to get together with all our fans after the long waiting – a feeling we all missed so much! We enjoyed all the shows: our fans were superb and gave us only strikingly happy moments that led to an even stronger cohesion of the band! Personally, I can’t even imagine doing this without Michi and Kai anymore! And now we are looking very much forward to our next studio album with the crazy Pumpgang we´ve got!

Markus: "Hi Helloween folks all over the globe: you were the ones who welcomed us with open arms and hearts all over the world and you turned our world tour into an unique, euphoric party! We love you all and we are very much looking forward to continue this party with you, our Helloween family in 2024 – right after we are done with the new record.

Sascha: "Wow, what an incredible tour once again! I've met so many wonderful people, and the atmosphere during our concerts has been filled with love and energy. Each tour gives me a steady growing and fulfilling experience! Much love to all the fans out there, our hard working crew, dedicated management, and my talented bandmates!"

After 60 extremely emotional shows, we are now going directly into the songwriting process and follow up production for the successor of HELLOWEEN - it will be the second release of a new era, the new time calculation for us!

"BEST TIME": NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO OUT NOW!

HELLOWEEN would like to celebrate again with their fans – with "BEST TIME", THE party song of their 2021 album "HELLOWEEN".

The sunny and straight hymn by Sascha Gerstner and Andi Deris revives the good times and shows with their drifty guitars and top form front men a song full of the joys. About the songwriting of "BEST TIME" Sascha Gerstner states: "I had an '80’s Neo Noir-Vibe' in my head. The riff was originally a synth-riff, which we arranged later for guitars. The wording 'I will have the best time of my life' was pretty spontaneous because I had this strong feeling to leave the past behind and Seize the day! Andi instantly loved the idea as well as the refrain and together we created the track as it is now!" "BEST TIME" comes with a terrific 80’s retro-artwork by cartoonist and HELLOWEEN fan Marcos Moura in a 2,000 pieces limited edition of a 12-inch vinyl, available in three colors as well as a bundle: vinyl single and t-shirt.  BUY YOUR EXCLUSIVE „BEST TIME“ VINYL EDITION AND SHIRT NOW! Dear fans,  due to the sad and tragic event of this war, we are sorry to have to cancel our shows in Russia for 2023. We have amazing fans in Russia and Ukraine - music unites us all. Our thoughts are with all the innocent and good people, that have to take the unbelievable suffering from this insanity. We hope and pray for the wellbeing of all and a UNITED good time, with Ukrainian and Russian fans alike sometime soon, in a world that has finally come to peace and reason. Love to all!

"OUT FOR THE GLORY“

MUSIC VIDEO RELEASED!

No reason to sit back: with the clip for “OUT FOR THE GLORY“ the next exciting coup is coming as the successful year is ending. "I had an idea for a video where all band members are depicted as dinky, odd noble courtiers and ministers" Michael Weikath explains. „All of us should be floating in the clouds, Deris as a nutty emperor…and after a while more and more details came up and at one point in time we wrote everything down and sent the video concept to the Australian animation team“. Aaron McLoughlin, Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne, who has already been involved in several projects with Atomic Fire Records CEO Florian Milz (e.g. for Children Of Bodom, Alestorm, Tankard) mentioned: „When I heard that HELLOWEEN is interested in a collaboration I was totally gobsmacked. The boys are my absolute heroes since I was a teenager and I was sure that my students would love to work on a song by this band.“

And typically HELLOWEEN  - the creativity was so outrageous that it was impossible to feature everything in one music video. „Seven and a half minutes might not sound like a lot but in animation terms it is a marathon. We had so much great stuff that the production of “OUT FOR THE GLORY“ was a real challenge. Weiki wanted the video to look as cute as possible and we immediately knew: A legendary band from the other side of the planet wants us to create a medieval epic full of cuteness? You bet!" McLoughlin recollects.

With a bit over 10.000 frames the iconic animation short movie is not only extremely elaborate, but also wicked and spacy, will cause a commotion and hopefully also a lot of fun and enjoyment. As Michael Weikath wishes with a twinkle in his eye: „I now expect that everyone will enjoy this and think it is funny and also that they see the signification!"

The animated music video “OUT FOR THE GLORY“ is celebrating its world premiere on December, 17th 2021 and was implemented by the students of Bachelor of Design (Animation & Interactive Media), RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia .

“FEAR OF THE FALLEN“

Digital single & lyric video release.

HELLOWEEN are back! Their second single "Fear Of The Fallen" is a fast paced, melodic track done the way only lead singer Andi Deris can do it. Taken from the upcoming and self-titled new album "Helloween", released June 18th, 2021 and produced by Charlie Bauerfeind, the song features Deris along with his band mates Michael Kiske, Michael Weikath, Kai Hansen, Markus Grosskopf, Sascha Gerstner and Dani Löble in their prime.

SKYFALL OUT NOW + VIDEO PREMIERE

THE SINGLE HAS LANDED! "Skyfall", the first track from Helloween’s upcoming and self-titled album is now available for streaming and in various CD and vinyl formats! Go check it out! We’re so excited to hear your reactions!

Written by Kai Hansen, "Skyfall" is a storming more-than-7-minute ride into the Helloween universe (and beyond!) The epic track describes an alien landing on earth and a dramatic chase while Michael Kiske, Andi Deris and Kai Hansen duel each other in a breathtaking manner and create a vocal broadband adventure. Produced by Martin Häusler, it is the most elaborate video clip in the history of the band.

Field Guide to Boston

5 things to do this weekend, including boston's revolutionary women walking tour and a '90s jazz night.

  • Solon Kelleher

One of my favorite artists, Caroline Polachek, recently released a cover of “ Spring Is Coming With A Strawberry In The Mouth ,” a 1980s synth song originally by Roger Doyle and produced by Bono. I heard Polachek’s version for the first time on a sunny morning earlier this week, and the sweet, simple and hopeful message of the title (which is repeated throughout the chorus) had me feeling excited for all that’s to come with the changing of the season. If you’re looking for your own seasonal inspiration, we have five options to help you in your quest — from a tour about Boston’s women of the American Revolution to a celebration of a lesbian-owned queer bar in Worcester. If you want more, might we suggest a delicious prix fixe meal? That and more below.

Portrait of the '90s

Thursday, march 7.

This isn’t your average night of covers. Saxophonist Mark Zaleski has curated a program of punk, R&B, metal and Top 40 hits that he and his band will reinterpret through a two-set evening of jazz. Joining Zaleski will be Jason Palmer on trumpet, Glenn Zaleski on piano, Matt Dwonszyk on bass and Mark Whitfield Jr. on drums. Audiences can expect music from Radiohead, Michael Jackson, Nirvana and more. If you’re looking for an excuse to review your 30-year-old mixtapes, possibly even with a new perspective, this is your chance. The concert will be held at the Regattabar in the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square. General admission tickets are $30.

Femme's Anniversary Party

Friday, march 8-sunday, march. 10.

Lesbian bars are few and far between. There are only 32 in the country, according to the Lesbian Bar Project . One of those bars is celebrating its one-year anniversary, and it’s slated to be a weekend-long party. The kickoff begins Friday with singer-songwriter Alex Rohan at 8 p.m. and continues Saturday with raffles and giveaways both days. Drag Brunch on Sunday is sold out, but if you miss the celebrations this weekend, there’s always something going on at Femme. Check out the full list of events for this weekend and beyond, including board game nights, open mic poetry and beverage tastings.

'Babar' and Super Arts Saturday

Saturday, march. 9.

You can almost always find something going on at Tufts University’s Department of Music calendar . The school frequently hosts in-person and live-streamed concerts, many of which are free. On Saturday, there’s something fun for families, especially those with young children. Pianist Andy Rangell will perform an adaption of “Babar,” the musical piece for piano and narrator by Francis Poulenc. The 1940 score is inspired by the classic Jean de Brunhoff tale about a beloved and often fashionably dressed elephant. After the concert, the department will host a Super Arts Saturday with dance, music, art and a sing-along with “Rainbow Jeff” Rawitsch. Both events are free and open to the public.

Restaurant Week in Boston

Sunday, march 10-saturday, march 23.

Here’s a tip for Restaurant Week: don’t wait for the final days. You can start this Sunday for deals and discounts at over 150 locations throughout Boston and Cambridge. Multi-course prix fixe lunch menus range from $22 to $36 and dinners from $36 to $55. You can see the full list of restaurants, on the Restaurant Week’s website . For those seeking outdoor, vegetarian or takeout options, look for the little icons throughout the list indicating each restaurant’s offerings. You should also look out for details on what days of the week restaurants will offer their Restaurant Week specials, with some only selecting weekdays or certain times of day. Famed steakhouse Abe & Louie’s, for example, only has weekday lunch specials, while Boston’s Union Oyster House has options for lunch and dinner every day but Saturday. Can’t make it this week? No problem. Although it’s called Restaurant “Week,” it actually runs for 14 days.

Revolutionary Women Tour

Various dates.

Do you know the story of Phillis Wheatley’s exchange with Thomas Jefferson? How about the first woman to serve as second lady, Abigail Adams? You can hear about these stories and more on the Revolutionary Women Tour, as told by the historical figures themselves! Well, people in costume, which is as close as you’re going to get to the real thing in 2024. It’s a special tour running on select Saturdays and Sundays during the month of March. Tours meet at 10:45 a.m. at the Boston Common Visitor Information Center. If you can’t make it to one of the Revolutionary Women Tour times, you can also check out “Walk Into History,” The Freedom Trail’s daily tour that brings guests from Boston Common to Faneuil Hall and nine other historic sites along the way. General admission tickets cost $17, and tickets for children ages 6 to 12 are $8.

Kohles takes the lead in Puerto Rico with 63. A win would be one way to remain on the PGA Tour

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico — Ben Kohles had four birdies over his last five holes Saturday for a 9-under 63 and a two-shot lead in the Puerto Rico as he chases his first PGA Tour title.

Kohles was tied for the lead with fellow Virginia alum Jimmy Stanger when he hit wedge to about 6 feet for birdie on the 17th, and then recovered from two shots in the rough by making a 15-foot birdie putt on the par-5 closing hole at Grand Reserve.

Stanger was behind him and three-putted for bogey from 12 feet on the par-5 15th. He bounced back with a birdie on the 17th and shot 67.

He was two shots behind along with Brice Garnett (68) and Matti Schmid (68).

The winner Sunday gets a spot in The Players Championship next week and the PGA Championship in May, but not in the Masters because the tournament is being held the same week as a signature event at Bay Hill.

Kohles was at 18-under 198.

The 34-year-old Kohles was player of the year on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2023, the third time he has graduated from the minor leagues to the PGA Tour. The previous two times, he didn’t come close to keeping his tour card.

One way to change that is to win. A victory would give him a two-year exemption, perhaps the biggest perk of all.

“It’s the same game,” Kohles said, referencing his two Korn Ferry wins last year. “We’re just playing golf.”

He looked up to the task in strong wind that usually blew straight across. He still managed nine birdies and kept bogeys off his card. His closing stretch began with a 35-foot birdie putt from just off the 14th green. He made an 18-foot birdie on the next hole, got up-and-down for par on the 16th and then finished with his two birdies.

Joe Highsmith, who had a two-shot lead after 36 holes, went 12 holes without a birdie befor finishing with one to salvage a 71. He was three shots behind.

This also is a big week for Garnett, whose lone PGA Tour victory was in the Dominican Republic in 2018, another opposite-field event. But he only has past champions status on the PGA Tour, and it’s tough to find starts. This is his first tournament of the year.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Paint the Town After Singapore Concert

Taylor swift fans defend travis kelce after he's seen texting at 'eras' tour, travis kelce swifties defend him .... after he's seen texting at her show, 1.3k 3/8/2024 3:23 pm pt.

Swifties are coming to Travis Kelce 's defense after he was caught texting during Taylor Swift 's recent "Eras" tour concert ... with the message being, give the guy a break!

Check out the video ... you see the Chiefs tight end being filmed by a fellow concertgoer at the Singapore show he went to this week -- and while Taylor was belting out "I Knew You Were Trouble" ... TK was checking his phone, right at the peak of the song.

The person who filmed this seemed to be throwing some shade Travis's way -- by suggesting he wasn't being attentive enough .... with a caption, reading "It's giving supporting bf."

Despite what the TikToker might've been trying to imply here -- T-Swift's legion wasn't biting ... with a ton of people jumping to speak up for Travis ... and rightly pointing out how ridiculous any type of scrutiny or criticism over this really is. Dude's just checking his phone!

A few Swifties even noted that this is the first time that Travis has ever been seen looking at his phone while cheering on his sweetheart.

Besides, we know Travis is a supportive boyfriend -- evidenced by the fact that he's literally there in Singapore right now. As we reported earlier today, Trav was having a great time at the concert -- he was even caught dancing his tail off to Taylor's jams.

There's no denying he's a true fan of the Grammy winner ... remember, Travis attended the "Eras" tour before he and the pop star even got together. And, since getting with her -- he's made a huge effort to be at some of her international tours ... including in Australia.

Clearly, he's a supportive significant other ... and it seems her fans know that quite well. Here's hoping Trav can shake off the shade ... because it really ain't all that deep.

The guy's allowed to look away for a moment, y'all ... it should go without saying.
