I chose MMV because I knew someone else that was with the agency that has been so successful and happy with this agency as well. The academy program has exceeded far beyond my expectations and has provided me with all the tools I needed to become a successful agent as well! The agency management has been so kind, thorough, helpful throughout the entire experience. I am honored to be a part of this agency and I look forward to seeing what I can achieve with them.

I spent 6 months vetting various host agencies, and without a doubt, I know I have made the right decision not just for my business, but for my future, by joining Travel Edge as an IC. The level of support and the team spirit are first class, but it's the constant drive to innovate that ultimately reminds me I work with the best in the industry. Their investment in technology - while not always perfect - is testament to their committment to this innovation. Coming from brick & mortar to work from home, I felt like I'd been working in the dark ages once I took ADx for a run! LOL If you're looking for a host agency with great support and technology, you'll find a good home at Travel Edge.

I love being a Travel Edge agent! I have been a part of the team since 2020 and there are lots of resources available to assist with each person's success. Management does an excellent job of getting each region together for events. There are trade shows and networking opportunities as well. In addition, there is a dedicated team to help with training. It is a great environment whether you are a seasoned veteran or just getting started. I plan to stay with Travel Edge for the long haul!

A travel advisor who retired from the industry heard my passion for travel during a friendly lunch. She insisted I joined the industry and introduced me to Travel Edge. A few days later I became a luxury travel advisor and Travel Edge has been my host agency and like a family to me. I love how accessible everyone in every department is from corporate, finance, marketing, air and our community on FB, I always get the supoort I need. I love the recognition Travel Edge gets in our industry and our reputation as a luxury travel agency. I am always proud to be part of the team and I reflect this in all my networking at travel shows, conventions, interviews and my social media platforms. I love my association with Travel Edge and love how much we have grown and keep growing together. I love the opportunity to inspire clients to Be well traveled, to be travelers and not tourists and with my expert knowledge of hundreds of destinations around the world I love curating the perfect vacation for my travelers.

Initially I was told about Travel Edge at an event. I then researched the company to check out their benefits to agents. Let's just say one of the best decisions I've made in the nearly 17 years I've been in the industry. Travel Edge makes me fill like I'm part of a team. They focus on the luxury traveler and they have the benefits to match. The technology is the latest and IT support is amazing. The staff is extremely professional and very responsive. Being with Travel Edge has afforded me so many opportunities to participate in Conferences, FAMs and more. I didn't get this type of opportunities from my previous host, I had to build my own relationships for these opportunities.

I have been with Travel Edge just over 2 years. They made the transition for a traditional store front to Independent easy. They support their agents though many channels and are always working to negotiate great relationship with suppliers. They are always positive, helpfully, and proactive. Amazing people.

In 2019, I joined the Travel Edge Network as an IC. I was brand new to the industry and to sales. I'm so grateful that TEN took a chance on me and, four years (and a pandemic) later, I know I couldn't have chosen a better host agency. Shortly after joining, I connected with a couple of local advisors and was also paired with an official mentor, all of whom helped guide me through the initial phases of learning about selling travel. It also helped tremendously that TEN has proprietary technology (read: easy to learn and use), to book and invoice. But, I think that TEN's secret sauce is its network of incredibly supportive advisors, who help each other brainstorm options, who offer insights on destinations and suppliers and who help make connections. That coupled with the leadership's forward looking approach and investment in the advisors (through organization of and access to networking events and FAM opportunities), is also invaluable. Finally, it's undeniable that TEN's name carries a tremendous amount of weight in the industry among suppliers, who go the extra mile for our clients. All in all, I'm so glad that I am finally in the right industry for me and certainly with the best host agency I can imagine.

I joined Travel Edge in 2020 as an IC for the first time on the advice of a friend in the industry who introduced me to the ADX platform and the technology really blew us both away and truly sets them apart. It was the main thing that attracted me but I am continually impressed by the business moves made and ways that they invest in the company and their advisors. From the marketing which attracts the luxury clientele I am looking to grow my business with, to the way they are constantly evolving with new ideas and ventures, to the people and relationships formed and incredible opportunities presented that have significantly impacted my business and my experience. I highly recommend joining the Travel Edge family!

I joined Travel Edge during the pandemic and I could not be any happier. The management team is incredibly supportive of every travel advisor. I am proud to be on the Travel Edge team and feel free to reach out to me if you are considering changing host agencies. My business is Luxury focused and they align with my philosophy and my goals. I could not ask for anything else.

I joined Travel Edge Network (TEN) in January 2019 as a new to the industry advisor. I joined at a time of rapid expansion and acquisition of mostly established agents, and TEN didn't have a robust program for onboarding newer agents. This was discussed when I joined, so my expectations were properly managed. However, it was a hard first year. Followed by a pandemic. However, I am so proud to be working with TEN and have seen their investments in ADX (our proprietary booking software) and training pay off for me in large ways. While the programs were not in place when I joined, Ken Neibaur and Michelle Leal were always available to troubleshoot a problem I was facing or provide me opportunities to grow my business.

Going into my 4th year as an advisor, I am approaching $1M in annual sales and my business continues to grow by offering my clients great experiences through TEN negotiated partners and beyond.

rebecca thompson travel edge

  • 4 minute read

Rebecca Thompson’s journey as a founder is driven by a passion for exploration and the planet’s well-being. At the helm of Ecosy Travel , Rebecca’s leadership has resulted in the creation of a platform that empowers individuals to make eco-conscious travel choices. Her commitment to transparency, community engagement, and sustainability sets the course for a greener, more responsible travel industry.

Seeds of Innovation and Overcoming Challenges

Rebecca’s journey is marked by a Young Innovators Award in 2021 and raising approximately £200,000 in grant funding for Ecosy Travel. The team has developed a carbon-optimised journey planner, revolutionising travel by enabling a shift from flying to more climate-friendly modes such as train, coach, and ferry. Rebecca’s dedication to transparency empowers travellers to make informed decisions, reinforcing her commitment to sustainability. Ecosy Travel’s impressive record of accomplishment includes onboarding over 200 holiday properties across the UK, partnering with household names like Megabus and Trainline, and crafting bespoke flight-free trips into Europe.

Rebecca’s entrepreneurial spirit is intertwined with her commitment to community-driven change. Ecosy Travel serves as a platform for green travellers to share experiences, fostering inspiration and learning. As a female founder and dyslexic thinker, Rebecca actively champions diversity and inclusion, harnessing diverse life experiences to drive innovation and create an inclusive work culture.

From Inspiration to Action

Rebecca’s inspiration for Ecosy Travel emerged from her love for travel and concern for the planet. The alarming rise in emissions from flying and the impacts of climate change spurred her to action. Recognising the lack of accessible green travel options, she channelled her passion into Ecosy Travel. Challenges were inevitable, from navigating the intricacies of the travel industry to securing funding. With perseverance, mentorship, and an incredible team, Rebecca tackled these challenges head-on. Connection with like-minded individuals further fueled her motivation, serving as a wellspring of learning and growth.

A Glimpse into the CEO’s Day

Rebecca’s days mirror Ecosy Travel’s mission, combining purpose, collaboration, and learning. Her day kicks off by prioritising tasks and setting intentions. Strategising with the team, fostering partnerships, and platform innovation dominate her schedule. Meetings, brainstorming sessions, and community engagement form essential components. Amid the hustle, she finds time for personal development and reflection, delving into readings and documentaries.

Principles of Success

Aligning commercial success with social impact defines Ecosy Travel’s approach. Tailoring unique value propositions to resonate with eco-conscious travellers and sustainable property suppliers is central to their strategy. Empowering the team and cultivating collaboration underpins their accomplishments. Remaining agile and adapting to evolving trends ensures Ecosy Travel’s offerings remain aligned with the changing needs of conscious travellers.

A Vision of Transformation

Rebecca envisions Ecosy Travel changing the travel industry by integrating sustainable choices into every journey. Their booking platform is expanding globally, simplifying eco-friendly travel planning. Collaborations with campaigners, NGOs, and businesses are on the horizon, collectively minimising the sector’s carbon footprint.

Balancing Responsibilities

For Rebecca, balancing responsibilities to stakeholders, employees, customers, and the community is achieved through alignment and transparent communication. Regular feedback, an open-door policy, and involving the community in decisions ensure actions resonate with diverse perspectives. The majority of profits are reinvested into their social mission, solidifying their commitment.

Nurturing Talent & Fostering Innovation

Ecosy Travel’s talent acquisition focuses on shared values and diverse experiences. Employee development extends beyond roles, fostering a culture of learning. Autonomy, experimentation, and cross-functional teamwork drive innovation. The platform’s emergence from diverse ideas exemplifies their collaborative spirit. Regular brainstorming sessions and open forums encourage fresh perspectives.

Rebecca Thompson’s journey exemplifies the power of purpose-driven entrepreneurship. Her commitment to sustainable travel, transparency, and community-driven change propels Ecosy Travel’s mission to empower travellers, foster innovation, and leave a positive impact on the world.

Young Innovators Success Stories: Rebecca Thompson, Ecosy Travel, London

rebecca thompson travel edge

The social enterprise that makes sustainable travel simple

Rebecca Thompson first had the idea for Ecosy Travel back in 2018, when she became concerned about the environmental impact of travelling. She decided to stop flying wherever possible and help others to travel sustainably as well.

“Ecosy Travel was still at the idea stage when I joined the Young Innovators programme. I had big ideas for the business I wanted to create, but needed support to make it happen,” she remembers.

Continuous evolution

Rebecca describes her time on the programme as “a continuous evolution of the business”. With the help of business specialists, she’s taken Ecosy Travel from an idea to a certified social enterprise and registered limited company.

“We launched the beta version of the web app for World Tourism Day on 27th September 2022, which has been a major turning point in stakeholder discussions,” she says.

“Ecosy has secured a further £50,000 of grant funding from Innovate UK through the Fast Start programme, with application support from Innovate UK EDGE. This has enabled another milestone: the hiring of our first full-time employee.”

First employee

The company’s first employee is a data scientist who will be developing Ecosy Travel’s algorithm to underpin its low-carbon journey planning.

The platform’s functionality will be a key focus for Rebecca over the next year. She’s already secured a number of commission agreements with green properties and low-carbon transport providers to feature on the platform.

“Over the next 12 months, we will be building out the core functionality of our trip planner, including emission-optimised journey planning and integrated availability and booking, with per trip emission transparency,” she says.

“In addition to the grant funding from Innovate UK, we’re looking to raise up to £250,000 of SEIS-eligible seed investment to finance the development of our bespoke, sustainable booking system. We also plan to grow our team from three to 10 people, focusing on R&D, marketing and customer support.”

An inspiring network

While there are still days where she feels a little out of her depth, Rebecca believes she’s growing in confidence all the time.

As she explains, being able to work with an innovation champion and meet other entrepreneurs through the Young Innovators programme has been hugely valuable.

“It was great to discuss Ecosy with lots of people and get different opinions about how to approach the challenges we were facing. I loved meeting the other Young Innovators Award winners – hearing their stories and successes has been really inspiring.

“I also loved the workshops on offer, especially the one on personal and business branding as I felt I learnt so much from that session.”

Taking advice

For future Award winners, Rebecca recommends going into the programme with an open mind. Take all the advice you can, then use it to refine your own thinking.

“It’s really important to know what you want to achieve so you can ask for the relevant support and maximise the benefit you get. The more conversations you have, the more interesting ideas you hear about how best to shape your business,” she says.

“I’m excited to be a climate innovator and social entrepreneur. I have really big plans for the future. I’m looking forward to taking the next steps for my business and excited for the impact I believe I can deliver.”

Shift Transit Employee Spotlight – Rebecca Thompson

  • July 14, 2021

rebecca thompson travel edge

To peel back the curtain on the people who make Shift Transit go, we are launching the Shift Transit Employee Spotlight series in order to learn more about some of our terrific team members and the critical work they do to ensure we provide a world-class user experience to our riders.

For our inaugural post, we sat down with  Rebecca Thompson , Operations Manager for the Bike Share Toronto program. Rebecca is an Ontario native who plays a critical role in supporting one of the  most successful bikeshare  programs in North America by seeking out new ways to optimize our day-to-day management of the 6,850-bike program and improve our overall operational approach and execution.

rebecca thompson travel edge

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hi there! I grew up just outside Toronto but loved to visit the city as a child and teenager, as well as travel to other big cities around the world. Whenever I traveled to other cities, I constantly kept my eyes open to new sustainability developments and initiatives. Eventually, my passion for city exploration led me to study urban planning at the University of Waterloo and find work as a planner at Metrolinx, the Toronto Transportation Commission, and Brampton Transit. Working at Shift Transit has allowed me to continue to pursue my passion for making our cities as sustainable and liveable as possible. Mobility sharing is clearly a key ingredient in supporting city growth in a sustainable way.

What does a typical day look like for you at Shift Transit?

Generally, within a typical day, I am monitoring the system to ensure we are on track to meet and exceed our operational KPIs. However, what makes working in operations so interesting and challenging is that there is rarely a typical day. One day I’ll be in the field monitoring our stations to ensure they are fully functioning and then the next day I’ll hold meetings to deliver new SOPs to the team. I really love how dynamic and fluid the work can be.

rebecca thompson travel edge

What is your favorite part about working for Shift Transit / Bike Share Toronto?

My favorite part about working for Shift Transit is definitely getting to work with our Toronto team. My colleagues are full of ideas on how to help achieve operational excellence and it’s extremely rewarding to be able to test these ideas, iterate, and then implement ways to improve our operations. I greatly enjoy the discussion and brainstorming that goes into the decision-making process.

I also enjoy interacting with our customers while out in the field. I’ve heard a ton of positive comments and feedback from our riders about how much the system helps them in their day-to-day life. This helps me feel like I am giving back to the community through my work.

rebecca thompson travel edge

What’s been your proudest accomplishment at Shift Transit?

I successfully spearheaded a system-wide installation of new payment terminals in 500+ kiosks within a 10 day deadline. This project required a significant amount of planning and dedication. I was incredibly proud of our team as they pushed through tough weather conditions and some minor technical challenges to ensure the roll out was a success!

What would people never guess you do in your role?

I do quite a bit of work in the field. This is definitely not just a desk job. Most recently, I’ve been out in the field troubleshooting technical issues at the docking stations.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get into the mobility/transportation field?

Get your foot in the door in any capacity and then work your way up through dedication and hard work.

rebecca thompson travel edge

What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

I’ve learned the importance of completing tasks or writing them down in the moment, while I am thinking of them! Of course sometimes you will be distracted by tasks as they pile up, but having a system in place to make sure you come back and finish everything large and small is critical.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I enjoy being active on my off time. I am an avid beach volleyball player and spend many of my weekends playing at Ashbridges Bay. In the winter I love to ski, whether it be cross country or downhill skiing. I also enjoy a good board game or movie. In my spare time I love to travel, whether it be off the beaten track in Toronto or exploring a new city.

What would you be doing professionally if you weren’t working in mobility?

Growing up I did have dreams of becoming a vet, so anything to do with working with animals would have been a great fit.
