The Sims 4 Journey to Batuu starting guide, from how to visit Batuu and first steps explained

The basics of the Star Wars-themed expansion.

The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu game pack is a bit of an outlier for the series.

While this isn't the first time that The Sims has changed up its gameplay or, indeed, featured a cross-over with another franchise (remember when The Sims 3: Supernatural met Plants vs Zombies?), going from a quiet suburban life in Willow Creek straight into the galactic melting pot of Batuu can potentially be a bit of a culture shock for Sims and players alike.

Whether you're a Star Wars super-fan or it's your first foray into a galaxy far, far away (or, like your humble author, consider yourself somewhere in the middle of the two extremes), this The Sims 4 Journey to Batuu guide will help you to navigate your Sims' first interaction with this galaxy far, far away.

The Sims 4 Journey to Batuu starting guide: How to travel Batuu and what to do first

The way to get your Sims from home to the new world of Batuu is surprisingly prosaic: use a phone or computer to take a vacation, and select Batuu from the menu of available destinations.

This will be familiar to players who have the Outdoor Retreat and/or Jungle Adventures game packs, as it's the same method used to travel to Granite Falls and Selvadorada.

Of course, even if you don't want to use your phone or computer, you'll receive a notification or phone call from a Batuu Sim asking whether you'd like to visit the location anyway. This usually happens when you start a new Sim Household though, so give it a few days at most if you're waiting for that all important phone call.

Batuu is treated by the game as a vacation world like the former two, though there are a few differences.

Your Sims will still automatically use up any paid vacation days from work while staying on Batuu, but other earthly considerations (such as holidays if you have Seasons installed) will prove too distant a concern and pass without notice.

However, those Simoleons you just earned are no good here: Batuu's economy operates on a separate currency called Credits. You'll arrive with a few Credits in your pocket, and can earn more from gambling at the Sabacc table or completing faction missions.

(Don't worry: your hard-earned Simoleons - along with your Bits and Pieces if you have Eco Lifestyle installed, plus any and all contents of your Sim's personal inventory - will be restored to you on your arrival back at home.)

There is no need for your Sims to book accommodation, as they will be staying (for free, thanks to Batuu's legendary hospitality) in the Dwelling at Black Spire Outpost.

Since your first mission requires you to get to know this part of Batuu, it's best to start your Sims' vacation there when prompted to choose a neighbourhood to visit.

The Dwelling works in a similar way to a campsite tent in the previous vacation-themed game packs: rather than behaving like a building, it's an object which Sims can interact with to change clothes, sleep (and WooHoo if their romantic partner is present), and 'freshen up' (meaning, in this case, restore their bladder and hygiene needs, as well as giving other needs a small boost).

The Dwelling is the only place on Batuu where Sims can recover bladder and hygiene, as well as one of the few places to get a proper night's sleep, so returning there at least once or twice per in-game day is a good idea.

While on Batuu, you can find your missions under your Sim's Career panel, while their reputation with each of the three factions is tracked under their Simology panel.

In June 2020, we also saw the free addition of ladders in The Sims 4 .

Upon arriving on Batuu for the first time, every Sim will automatically receive the two-part 'Welcome to Batuu' mission. To fulfil it, visit the Dwelling to freshen up and change clothes (the Dwelling is stocked with the new Star Wars-themed clothing items to help your Sims fit in); then head over to Docking Bay 7 to order some food.

The Black Spire Outpost's circular design can be difficult to navigate, but to help you orient yourself, the Dwelling and Docking Bay 7 both have glowing blue outlines until you interact with them for the first time.

After getting your Sim refreshed, clothed, and fed, it's time to get to know the locals - and, crucially, their factions .

There are plenty of Batuu residents wandering around, so say hello to any three and ask them about the First Order, Resistance, and Scoundrels to gain some insights, and in doing so, complete the second and final stage of the 'Welcome to Batuu' mission.

The Sims 4 Hidden Area:

Finding sylvan glade.

There are two hidden areas included in The Sims 4, one in each World - The Forgotten Grotto in Oasis Springs, and Sylvan Glade in Willow Creek. All Sims may enter Sylvan Glade with no special requirements, while the other requires max Handiness . Once you've unlocked these areas, you can easily return to them at any time without having to go through all those steps - just travel to the neighborhood and head right in!

Where to find Sylvan Glade in Willow Creek

Hidden Area: Sylvan Glade Travel to Crick Cabana in Willow Creek, above, and look for the big, mystical-looking tree in the Screenshot below.

Water, then talk to this Tree to enter Sylvan Glade

View the Tree a couple of times, then the Water option should pop up. After watering it a few times, I had the option to 'Chat about Roots', then 'Compliment on Leaves' and finally, 'Explore'.

From there, you must again make the right choices, but get as many tries as you like. Select Follow the Sound , Travel Downstream , Enter the Mist , Travel to Glade .

Catching a Treefish in The Sims 4's Sylvan Glade Hidden Area

Now you are in a reliable place to catch a valuable and rare Treefish! There are also Plants you may not have, and places to search for Frogs and Dig. I am sure the spawners in the Glade are more likely to spit out rare collectibles, just like those in the Grotto.

for sure yes it is on xbox version as I just went there on my xbox.

I think my collectables are bugged or something. I cant see a single dig, plant or anything in the glade (or any other world). has anyone had this problem??

Yikes, If your sim hangs on the lot til at least 4-6am the next day the spawners should kick in. If they don't then save your game and exit. Then delete the localthumbcache.package file from your TheSims4 folder and go back to the glade and wait till 4-6am again for the spawners to kick in.

Spawners in the Glade should kick in the minute your sim arrives on the lot but sometimes they are on the same schedule as ordinary plants and so only spawn once a day between 4-6 am.

Some examples include the First Order, Resistance, Scoundrels, and even groups whose ranks are hidden in Debug. Cheats are a great way to acquire the items rewarded from these ranks without having to get to Batuu in Sims 4 by traveling through hyperspace.

As with all cheats, you can begin by pulling up the console and inputting the code testingcheats true . By pressing enter, you turn on the mode that allows additional cheats to be entered on the console. Here are all the available cheats for the Star Wars Game Pack and what they do once activated:

Not every cheat needs to be input in the console command as long as testingcheats has been entered earlier. Some codes can be accessed through default commands, letting you travel throughout the Batuu theme park in Sims 4 with extra options than you could normally have. By pressing Shift + Click on your Sim , you can choose this selection of cheat options from bubbles that appear on your screen:

The ability to adjust the experience of this expansive Game Pack gives you far more freedom to craft stories more suited to your preferences. Even when you decide to leave Star Wars: Journey to Batuu , you can still enjoy many of the perks from its content by using these cheats in The Sims 4 .

The Sims 4: Paranormal Stuff introduces the brand new Medium skill. This is used to communicate with spirits, tame a haunted house, summon Bonehilda and embark on a career as a Freelance Paranormal Investigator . It's a five-level skill and you'll want to explore it if you are to unlock everything the pack has to offer.

Here's everything you need to know about how to build the medium skill quickly and what you can use it for.

It Begins With The Séance Table

The Medium skill is built by using the Séance table, a new item you'll find for $333 in the build and buy catalog. You'll also need either a Séance chair or other dining chair to enable you to sit by the table.

The item is categorized weirdly so the easiest way to find it is to go to objects by function > show all, then use the box on the right to filter by Paranormal Stuff. This will bring up the Séance Table on its own and a Séance Table Set for $648 that includes four Seance Chairs and a Crystal Ball. If you buy the table separately, double-check the name as there is also a Table of Rage dining table in the pack that's the same size.

The Crystal Ball is not required for leveling the Medium skill, since the table itself is the interactive object. However, it does fit on the table without affecting its use and will display Sim faces when the table is used, making it a nice additional touch. Once you have the Séance table all you need to do is use it.

Be Prepared

Spellcasters will gain Medium Skill quite a lot quicker than regular Sims since they are already attuned to the spiritual world. This means that becoming a Spellcaster, even if only temporarily, can help you quickly build your skills.

Being in a good mood will also help. The better mood you are in, the less chance of your rituals being unsuccessful or interrupted, decreasing your skill gain and bringing bad vibes to your lot. Placing objects such as Sacred Candles, which are available from the rewards store costing 500 points for three, and Good Mojo Macramé which is $125 in the build and buy catalog, will also help keep the experience positive.

If you interact with a friendly ghost and offer them a homemade gift, such as cookies or any other items you can craft, you may also gain some Wraith Wax you can make the candles from yourself. You simply need to click on it in your inventory and select Make a Sacred Candle. It is worth noting however that the Medium Skill is only increased by using the Séance Table and not by any interactions with spirits.

The Medium Skill

The first options you'll get when you first click the Séance Table are Sense Spiritual Volatility, Perform Ceremony, and Commune With The Departed. You'll get extra interactions with each skill level built. Here's what each option does and how much it will increase your skill.

• Level One: Sense Spiritual Volatility

This interaction will tell you how haunted the current lot is and how friendly any specters are. It doesn't build a lot of skill, only around 5% or so, but is quick and useful to keep an eye on what's likely to occur in your house. It can be used on regular lots but gives you no useful information.

• Level One: Perform Ceremony (Haunted House Lot Only)

If the levels of chaos are too high you can use the Perform Ceremony interaction to make the place a little friendlier. This builds a good amount of skill, approximately 20% of your level, but will drain your energy and can only be performed intermittently.

• Level One: Commune With The Departed

This is your basic skill. It will give around 20% of a level increase and you'll see a message from a departed soul appear in the top right corner. Most are amusing but some can be sinister and can scare your Sim. Using this is the fastest and easier way to build up the levels.

• Level Two: Group Séance

This option unlocks with level two skill and allows up to three other Sims to perform a séance with you, regardless of their skill level. You'll gain skill at a slightly lower rate, closer to 10 -15% depending on the number involved, but the other participants will also boost their skills by approximately 5 - 10% so it is a useful way to build skills in a group. Results of the Séance can also vary from regular Séances due to the extra participants.

• Level Three: Summon Bonehilda

Summoning Bonehilda will increase your skill level by approximately 15% and cannot be used again until she leaves the lot. While this interaction won't be of much use for skill-building, Bonehilda is great fun to have around, even if she is missing her coffin .

• Level Three: Invoke The Dead

Expect around a 15% skill increase for this interaction. It will also summon specters onto your lot. This is great if you want to practice building a rapport with spirits but less useful for skill-building.

• Level Four: Ghastly Ritual

The Ghastly Ritual grants a large chunk of skill, around 25%, but there are some side effects to this ritual. If successful you'll turn into a ghost for around four hours. If your ritual fails, you'll take on a different appearance for the duration.

• Level Five: Create Séance Circle

This interaction can be done by clicking on the floor of any lot and selecting the option. Once the circle is drawn you can click it to get all the options from the Séance table except for the Group Séance option. If you have Guidry active in your home you can also use the circle to summon him to your location.

The Rewards

Reaching level five will allow you to gain a free Paranormal Investigator License from Guidry, you simply need to ask. It will also allow you to perform Séances with less of a drain on your energy and increase your chance of success.

The top-level skill is particularly useful for the Paranormal Investigator career mainly due to the ability to create séance circles anywhere and use them to calm spirits or to summon backup in the form of Guidry or Bonehilda.

Alternatively, if all this seems like too much hard work you can always cheat. Simply enable testing cheats then type in the following code:

stats.set_skill_level Minor_Medium 5

Now your skills are maxed out you can get rid of the Séance Table if you wish and simply draw temporary chalk circles on the floor when required. Whatever you do with your new skills make sure you can handle it, things can get pretty rough in a haunted house, especially if you use the hand ornament to set it to Heroic Mode.
