tourist map of sylhet

Are you planning a trip to Bangladesh and looking to visit Sylhet? This is a complete guide with everything you need to know when looking for the coolest places to visit and things to do in Sylhet.

I never completed an article so quickly as this one. I was still in Bangladesh and my trip to Sylhet was just a couple days old, but I was still full of excitement and wanted to share my adventures with you. Traveling to Bangladesh is already off the beaten path but when you decide to visit Sylhet you are surely an avid world traveler.

If you are visiting Bangladesh you must definitely try to make time in your itinerary to travel to Sylhet in the Northeast of Bangladesh and with this list of cool things to do I hope to convince you.

1. Visit the Lala Khal Tea Gardens

lala khal tea gardens 2

One of the main places to visit in Sylhet are the tea plantations. There are many tea plantations around but the Lala Khal Tea gardens are the most beautiful ones to visit. To get here you will need to take a little boat trip across the river and once you walked pass the gate you can make your own way around the tea plantations.

lala khal tea gardens 1

Like all tourist attractions in Bangladesh the experience is real! There are no museums here or places where they make you taste their tea and try to sell you something. The main source of income is tea leaves and not tourism. Wander your way up to the top of the tea gardens and find hidden local villages in the hills.

These people will be waiting for you with a big smile and are happy to interact and have your pictures taken. Western tourists are a rarity. Simply another fantastic experience in Bangladesh!

2. Boat trip on the Sharee River

Bangladesh is almost completely flat and with so many rivers flowing through the country there are plenty opportunities to hop on a boat. When you travel to Sylhet this is one of the most relaxing things to do and a great way to see the countryside and life on the riverbank from a different perspective.

sylhet tourist attractions

In the Jaflong area you can witness the stone collecting business from the water, the main source of income in this region. On the Lala Khal side you will float on the river alongside tea plantations, river beaches and local life all the way up to the Indian border.

3. Camp on the riverbank

If you are up for an adventure when you travel to Sylhet then I have the perfect thing for you: stay overnight in a luxurious Tent Camp on the river bank. Due to the monsoon season this is only available from October to March in the area of Lala Khal. But sleeping on the beach under a million stars right on the river bank must be incredible! I have to plan a trip to Sylhet again to experience this myself.

4. Local cooking class

things to do in sylhet cooking class

In Lala Khal I also enjoyed a local cooking class organized by our hotel. Not a standard cooking class but one in a local home preparing dishes on a wood fire. We picked our own vegetables in the garden behind the house and helped the family preparing our meals. If you want to get in touch with locals this is a great way when you travel to Sylhet.

5. Local market in Jaintiapur

local market jaintiapur

For a real local experience make sure you don’t miss the local market in Jaintiapur, which is held every Wednesday and Saturday. This seriously is one of the best things to do in Sylhet as more authentic than this is it won’t get.

As a foreigner I was the main attraction here and literally people would stop and stare when I passed by. Simply out of curiosity as not many tourists make it here. See the live video for an impression of this tourist attraction in Sylhet only very few people know about.

Locals come here to buy vegetables, fruit, live animals, fish, get a haircut, drink tea and meet with friends all in one market. Incredible!

6. Visit the Khasi Tribe

A post shared by Travelblogger ???? Globetrotter (@tomtomtravel) on Jan 20, 2018 at 10:30pm PST

What about visiting an indigenous tribe ruled by women? Welcome to the Khasi tribe. The Christian Khasi population in Bangladesh resides on a tiny peninsula on the India border surrounded by the Goyain River. Visiting the local village is an incredible experience where you can get dressed up in the local attire and feel like a prince.

Keep on reading for one of my secret tips when you travel to Sylhet how to meet the Bangladeshi queen of the Khasi people, the ruler of the tribe!

Café Sengram Punji is a great place to drink a coffee while enjoying the view over the river and India on the other side.

7. Visit a workers camp at the Quarry

visit sylhet workers camp quarry

Bangladesh has many faces in there is no need to hide that poverty is also a side of this country. You will most definitely stumble upon some places were people live in extremely basic condition and I understand that this is not a Sylhet tourist attraction.

But if you want to meet the most friendly people ever and are in need of an eye-opener of how blessed you are in life then go visit the quarry on the riverbank in Jaflong. The people here live in tent camps next to the quarry. Walking around here felt like a Hollywood film set, almost unreal!

8. Step into India

things to do in sylhet 2

Sylhet is like a landlocked peninsula in Bangladesh surrounded by India and because of that there are a ton of border crossings all around. In and between the control posts there is 50 meters of nomandsland where you can have your picture taken with one foot in India and one foot in Bangladesh. A typical Western tourist attraction in Sylhet! Lol ;)

If you travel to Bangladesh as a foreigner it is cheaper to travel over land by the way. On Dhaka airport will you pay $51 dollar for your visa here at the border crossings in Sylhet only $8. :) I have some old blogs about India from the time I just started blogging, they are a funny read.

Two fishermen just before the border crossing on the river, the two green tents in the distance are the border partol huts from both countries.

9. Visit Local villages

Along your way there are a ton of local villages to explore. Be brave make your driver stop and wander around. There is no need to be scared or anything like that.

Local people love to see you coming. They will all stop what they are doing and they will stare at you. Not staring in a way that it is intimidating, but in a way that they look up to you.

There will hardly be anyone who will say no when you ask for a picture, but expect to get a ton of selfies taken with you too. :)

10. Try a 7 layer tea in Sylhet

7 layer tea sylhet

Apparently this is a typical thing to do in Sylhet so I could not resist either. Ask around in your hotel and someone will point you in the right direction where to find the famous local tea: 7 layer tea. It took about 15 minutes to make two cups of tea but it was waiting for. Ingredients: black tea, milk tea, ginger tea, lemongrass tea, sugar and two more, but I forgot about them.

11. Marvel at amazing sunsets

The flatlands and swamps all around Sylhet turn into a mystical landscape around sunset. The shadows of the trees become longer with each minute that passes and I am sure somewhere in the distance you will see a group of local kids playing football. A peaceful and serene setting and that is exatly what Sylhet in Bangladesh is.

12. Enjoy a jungle pool

jungle pool sylhet

On a hectic trip to Bangladesh I am sure you are going to be excited when you get a moment to relax. So therefore when visiting Sylhet I recommend you to find one of these jungle pools in some of the better hotels. They will allow admission for tourists even if you are not staying there.

These pools will give you that Bali vibe a little bit with endless jungle around you, sounds of the birds and lush green gardens. Especially in the summer months this is the best way to end your day sightseeing in Sylhet.

Scroll down to my where to stay in Sylhet section and I will tell you which hotels in Sylhet have these jungle pools.

13. Ratargul Swamp Forest

places to visit in sylhet 2

Last but not least one of the best things to do in Sylhet is a trip to the Ratargul Swamp Forest. The road to get here is bumpy but once you are floating on a little boat peddled forward by a friendly local you forget everything.

This extremely peaceful ride through the swamps is the ultimate place to find peace in this bustling country.

The beautiful mangroves are a protected area where you can find endemic species of wildlife like the pygmy-goose.

There are also hiking trails and a watch tower to climb up to. A 1 hour private boat ride in Ratargul Swamp Forest should not cost more than 1,000 BDT = $9 USD.

14. Meet the queen

visit sylhet khasi tribe queen

One of the best things to do in Sylhet is unfortunately not for everyone available. But if you are in the position and you have the right contacts you might be able to arrange a meeting with the queen of the Khasi tribe in Sylhet. I was among the lucky people to be invited at her house, sip tea and learn about the life of a royal. This experience made my trip to Sylhet extra special!

Nazimgarh wilderness.

things to do in sylhet 3

I would recommend staying close to the action and therefore take a look at the Wilderness Resort. This beautiful hotel is literally located in the tea plantations and an extremely peaceful place to rejuvenate. The rooms are clustered around the refreshing pool and the onside restaurant serves delicious food. The staff is extremely helpful and they can arrange all the above things to do in Sylhet.

sylhet tourism 1

The big advantage about Wilderness is that the tea plantations are within walking distance and so is the boat trip on the river. The hotel is located in an off the beaten path location a stone throw away from the Indian border.

Garden Resort

Closer to the mangrove forest you can find another great option to stay in Sylhet: the Garden Resort. This resort with a hilltop swimming pool, multiple restaurants and suites with their own Jacuzzis is only 15 minutes away from Sylhet city and the airport, but located in a lush green garden away from the hustle and bustle of Bangladeshi countryside life.

Some extra tips for traveling to Sylhet

Best local sim card for sylhet.

Wi-Fi signal in Sylhet is weak and not the fastest. As a foreigner I would recommend you to get a Grameen sim card. This mobile provider has good service up here, were Banglalink fails most of the times.

I wish someone had given me this tip before my trip to Sylhet. You can easily buy a Grameen sim card in Dhaka.

where to stay in sylhet

No WiFi, no phone reception so time to enjoy the view from Wilderness Resort Sylhet.

Prepare for bad road conditions

sylhet bangladesh 1

When you travel to Sylhet expect though road conditions. If you get carsick easily opt for a seat in the front and prepare to thrown around the car avoiding one pothole after another. They say it is not about the destination, but it is the journey that counts. Not in this case trust me! ;)

Bring mosquito spray

Make sure to bring mosquito spray when you visit Sylhet. Probably everywhere you go in Bangladesh have mosquito spray on you. It is only bad around sunset and just after, but it can save you a lot of bites. Or just wear long pants and sleeves! ;)

Try Betel Nut

Not a recommend activity when traveling to Sylhet! But since there are so many betel nut trees around and so many people are chewing betel nut, I also had to try it. It was my first time trying Betel Nut and I regret as soon as I put it in my mouth. Damn this stuff is bitter.

Where is Sylhet Bangladesh?

Sylhet is about 250 kilometers northeast of the capital Dhaka and the most northeastern division in Bangladesh. It is almost completely surrounded by India with border crossings in the north, east and south.

How to get to Sylhet

how to get to sylhet

There are several daily flights from Dhaka with US-Bangla and NovoAir. The domestic airport in Dhaka is not as crazy as the international airport although delays are common. The flight from Dhaka to Sylhet is only 30 minutes in a propeller plane, but traveling can take up to a couple hours because of the delays. There are also international routes serving Sylhet Bangladesh and you are able to find flights from London and Dubai.

Tourist busses with AC go on a regular basis from Dhaka to Sylhet and take about 6 hours. Price: between $8 - $13.

The most adventurous way to get to Sylhet is to take the train. Several trains a day go from Dhaka to Sylhet and back and are cheap. The train ride is beautiful!

Travel to Sylhet itinerary

places to see in sylhet itinerary map

This map shows you all the best places to visit in Sylhet and where to find them. When asking me how many days I would recommend to travel to Sylhet I would say about 3 to 4 days is enough. You can even do most of the things to do on this list in just 2 days, but it would be very rushed.

Already want to visit Sylhet?

I hope this article made you visit Sylhet soon. My trip was an absolutely amazing experience and coming to Bangladesh showed me once again that you can’t judge a country before you have been. According to a lot of people Bangladesh is not safe, but the fact that this is a crazy country, does not make it a dangerous country.

meeting locals in sylhet bangladesh

Life in Bangladesh is so different from out Western standards that we quickly judge for no reason. But as you have seen on the live video of the market in Jaintiapur there is no reason to be scared, people are just curious and above all they are the most friendly ever!

My trip to Bangladesh

Last week I have been asked a couple times why I did not travel to Bangladesh before and I actually had no answer. I have been to India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and all the countries around a bunch of times, but never stopped by in Bangladesh. I think just because very few people talked about it and it is not directly on the tourist trail.

Read more about my trip to Bangladesh in my complete blog post in the link.

It is may be not the best country for your first time backpacking alone , as it can be very intense. But on the other hand so amazing at the same time. I can now finally say I made it to this beautiful country and also got the chance to visit Sylhet.

Thank you Bangladesh for adding another amazing experience to my travel life!

Sylhet is the capital of Sylhet Division in Bangladesh .

Understand [ edit ]

Nestled in the picturesque Surma Valley amidst scenic tea plantations and lush green tropical forests, greater Sylhet is a prime tourist destination. Sylhet has developed due to remittances from the expatriates living in Britain. Laying between the Khasia and the Jaintia hills on the north, and the Tripura hills on the south, Sylhet breaks the monotony of the flatness of this land by a multitude of terraced tea gardens, rolling countryside and the exotic flora and fauna. Here the thick tropical forests abound with many species of wildlife, spread their aroma around the typical hearth and homes of the Mainpuri Tribal maidens famous for their dance.

The Sylhet valley is formed by a beautiful, winding pair of rivers named the Surma and the Kushiara both of which are fed by innumerable hill streams from the north and the south. The valley has good number of haors which are big natural depressions. During winter these haors are vast stretches of green land, but in the rainy season they turn into turbulent seas.

These haors provide a sanctuary to the millions of migratory birds who fly from Siberia across the Himalayas to avoid the severe cold there. Sylhet has also a very interesting and rich history, Before the conquest by the Muslims, it was ruled by local chieftains. In 1303, the great Saint Hazrat Shah Jalal came to Sylhet from Yemen with a band of 360 disciples to preach Islam and defeated the then Raja Gour Gobinda.

An interesting feature of Sylhet region is the aboriginal tribes such as the Tipperas, the Monipuris, Khasis and Garos who still live in their primitive ways in the hills, practising their age-old rites, rituals, customs and traditions. During festivals such as Rash Leela (Full-moon night in February) and Doljatra, the Monipuris perform their famous dance, based on allegorical love themes of their ancient mythology.

Day-trips to Plan: Visit The Stunning Tourist Attractions of Sylhet

tourist map of sylhet

Sylhet is known for its beautiful scenery and peaceful getaways. In this article, we’ll explore the tourist spots you can visit in just one day. Pick your destinations, plan your trip, and enjoy the beauty of Sylhet City.

As our WordCamp venue is the Central Auditorium of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), we will provide directions on how to get to the mentioned locations from the SUST gate.

Before diving into the topic, some sweet reminders:

  • The rain is very unpredictable. Make sure you have an umbrella or a raincoat in your bag.
  • The people from Sylhet are very friendly. However, there is always a chance to get scammed by people. Before riding any vehicle, Specially CNG Autorickhwa, make negotiate and fix your cost.

Lalakhal – Jaflong – Dibir Haor

A popular tourist destination, Lalakhal is surrounded by hills, tea gardens, natural forests, and rivers. And the bonus point is It is not far from the Meghalaya Mountain Ranges. The Shari River is the area’s main draw because of its entrancing aquamarine water and small, evergreen mounds on either side.

tourist map of sylhet

One can easily get to “Lalakhal Tea Garden,” one of the oldest and most stunning tea gardens in the nation, by crossing the river.

You can do several activities such as boat riding, Swimming, Fishing, Trekking, and Hiking, also you can go to Ratargul Swamp Forest directly from there.

The depth of the water can be higher so this is recommended those who do not know how to swim, do not go so far. Hiring a local guide can be an ideal option. Due to the tropical climate of Lalakhal, it is crucial to protect yourself from the sun’s UV rays. To prevent sunburns, put on sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. Lalakhal is also notorious for having mosquitoes and other insects.

In Bangladesh, Jaflong is a well-liked vacation spot for local tourists. It is situated along the Bangladesh-India border in Bangladesh’s northeast. The majority of visitors arrive here on day trips from Sylhet. The beautiful hills of the Indian state of Meghalaya are the main attraction for tourists.

tourist map of sylhet

The Jaflong Zero Point, where the Piyain and the Shari rivers converge, is Sylhet Jaflong’s main point of interest. A picturesque landscape is created by the area’s proximity to tea gardens and lush green hills.

Boating, swimming, and hiking are among the activities available to visitors to Sylhet Jaflong. There are also several views from which visitors can take in wide views of the nearby hills and waterfalls. Visitors can enjoy the warm welcome of the locals and study traditional cuisine in this area, which is well known for it.

Although there is no risk there make sure, you do not cross the Bangladesh borderline. Due to extremely high temperatures, it is also recommended to take an umbrella during the summer season.

Dibir Haor is situated in Jointa Hills near the Bangladesh-India border in the Sylhet district of Jointapur. Dibir Haor is 45 kilometers from the center of Sylhet. The names of the four bills are Yam, Dibi, Horofkata, and Kendri Bill. The bills transform into the kingdom of the water lily after the rainy season.

tourist map of sylhet

In the winter season, the Haor covers with water lilies and this is not recommended to go in other seasons.

There are two options to explore those places. You can either go using the public transport or hire a private car. We recommend hiring a private car to go.

For public transport, first, go to Bondor Bazar from the Sust Gate, you can find available CNGs there. After that, you have to go to the Subhani Ghat to get a Bus or CNG to reach Sharighat. The Bus or CNG will stop at the Sharighat Bus Station. Again, you have to use the CNG to reach the Lalakhal. After enjoying the Lalakhal, again, you have to come back to the Sharighat where CNG will be available to reach Jaflong.

Ratargul – Sadapathor – Rudra Chaya -Bisnakandi

Ratargul swamp forest.

The Ratargul Swamp Forest is a unique and fascinating natural wonder located in Sylhet’s Goainghat area. It is the only freshwater swamp forest in Bangladesh and one of the few remaining freshwater swamp forests in the world.

tourist map of sylhet

During the monsoon season rain from the Indian hills floods this woodland, creating a swamp, the rest of the time it stays dry. This lovely forest’s water is so clear that you can see to the bottom.

In this woodland, the water level never stays the same, depending on how frequently it rains. During periods of severe rainfall, the water level in the woodland may reach 15 to 20 feet. The total area of the forest is 3325.61 acres, among which 504 acres of forest were declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1973.

A boat ride in the Ratargul Swamp Forest’s waters is one of the most popular activities. Visitors can witness the beauty of the forest up close and personal, as they glide through the narrow channels between the trees. The trees reflected on the water, combined with the chirping of birds and the croaking of frogs, create an unforgettable and enchanting atmosphere.

Kayaking is the alternative option for the boat ride. Kayaking allows visitors the freedom to roam anywhere and enjoy the marshes at their own pace. Each kayak has a capacity of three people. It is recommended that first-timers go with a guide as the path can be confusing.

Don’t miss the beautiful Ratargul Watch Tower. Climb to the top and enjoy the view of the forest.

Be aware that during the rainy season, snakes take shelter on tree branches.

Volagonj Shadapathor

Bholaganj SadaPathor, in the Companiganj Upazila and close to the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, India, has views that are strikingly similar to those of the well-known hill station Jaflong. It is renowned for its beautiful stones, clear water, and lush mountains. In this “heaven of white stones,” guests can take pleasure in swimming, floating, or simply soaking their feet in the lovely cool water. Nearby Bholaganj has two additional must-see locations, Utma Sora and Turong Sora.

tourist map of sylhet

Natural rock formations known as Bholaganj Shadapathor make beautiful little pools in the stream. The area’s natural beauty can be explored by taking a stroll along the stream.

Visitors can take in the fresh aroma of tea while taking in the natural beauty thanks to the area’s tea gardens, which add to its charm. The tea gardens are a fantastic location for photographers to capture beautiful scenery and landscapes.

Volagonj Shadapator offers a range of activities that visitors can enjoy during their trip. Some of the popular activities to do in Bisnakandi include Trekking, Boat riding, Swimming, and Camping.

Visitors to Bholaganj Shadapathor should be prepared for unexpected rain or storms because the weather there can be unpredictable. Carrying an umbrella or raincoat is advised. Visitors should wear cozy and supportive shoes because the ground is uneven and rocky in the area.

Rudra Chaya

tourist map of sylhet

Rudra Chaya Resort is often compared to the famous Sajek Valley. Visitors appreciate its natural beauty, lush greenery, and serene atmosphere. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly getaway with stunning views, this resort is worth considering.

The resort is situated in Foringura Gram, near Sahab Bazar (Sahab Bazaar), which is accessible from Amborkhana Point in Sylhet city. You can take a local CNG (auto-rickshaw) from Amborkhana Point to Sahab Bazar (fare: 30 BDT per person), and then another CNG from Sahab Bazar to Foringura Gram (fare: 10 BDT per person). The resort is located in the scenic surroundings of Foringura Gram, offering beautiful views.

Bisnakandi is a popular tourist place in Sylhet. It is a tiny village known for its breathtaking natural beauty that is located at the foothills of the Meghalaya plateau. The stream known as Bisnakandi, which runs through the village and merges with the River Piyain, is the source of the name.

tourist map of sylhet

The crystal clear water in Bisnakandi that flows over the tiny hills and rocks is one of the region’s main draws. The stream’s water is so clear that visitors can see the stones and pebbles at the bottom, and the area is surrounded by hills covered in lush green forests.

Like Shadapator, it offers Trekking, Boat riding, Swimming, Camping, and so on.

Be safe in the water and make sure you know how to swim. Have a local guide. During the summer, bringing an umbrella is highly recommended.

Shadapator and Bisnakandi are similar places with similar things to do. It is recommended to select just one location.

Take a CNG autorickshaw from Sust gate to Amberkhana and Amberkhana to Shab Bazar. Again from the Shab Bazar take another CNG to reach the Ratargul. Hire a boat and enjoy the scenario. After spending some time over there, again come back to the Shab Bazar, and take a CNG or Bus to go to Dhupagol. From Dhupagol station, you have to take the boat to reach Volagonj.

An alternative option is to hire a car/NOAH. The driver will take you to the places.

Tanguar Haor – Niladri Lake – Shimul Bagan (Day Night Trip, Spend the night on the boat)

Tanguar haor – niladri lake.

The Tanguar Haor , which is about 100 sq km, is the second-largest sweetwater swamp area in the Sunamganj district. The Dharmapasha of Sunamganj district and Tahirpur Upazila in northeastern Bangladesh is home to the largest and most picturesque sweetwater swamp in the country after Sundarbans.

tourist map of sylhet

This Haor is filled with hills, a bluish sky, water forests, and a lush environment. Tanguar Haor, an enormous habitat home to fish, birds, and other aquatic creatures, is located in the Khasia of Meghalaya, India, at the foot of the Jaintia Hills. Tanguar Haor covers 6912 acres in total. However, this Haor area increases to 20,000 acres during the monsoon.

Niladri Lake is near the Tanguar Hoar. It is located in the Tahirpur Upazila of the Sunamganj district in the Tekerghat village of the North Sreepur Union. Shaheed Siraj Lake is the original name of Niladri Lake.

tourist map of sylhet

However, this lake is known as Niladri Lake in the travel industry. The combination of nice blue water, small and tall stairs, and mountains make the Niladri Lake worthless in beauty. It’s like losing in a blue kingdom. The place is filled with heavenly beauty. Many tourists call the place the mini-Kashmir of Bengal.

You can hire a boat (It can be a houseboat) for 24 hours and spend some quality time. After riding for 2/3 hours, you will reach a watch tower. From the watch tower, you canswim in the Haor and more. We suggest you wear a life jacket. After spending one or two hours, the boat will head to Niladri Lake .

In the meantime, you can finish your lunch. Make sure you ask the boat owner to cook the fresh fish from Haor. Around two hours later, you will reach Niladri Lake to enjoy the beauty of the lake. You can hire a motorcycle there if you want.

After sunset, you spend a full night at the top of the boat. It is recommended to visit at moonlit night. It would be one of the best nights of your life. And those all made the place one of the best tourist places in Sylhet.

Before diving into the water, make sure you’re wearing a life jacket. Make sure you avoid riding on any underwater trees and avoid flushing any waste into the water.

Shimul Bagan

Shimul Flower Garden, which spans more than 100 bighas of land, is situated on the banks of the Jadukata River in Tahirpur, Sunamganj. It is the largest Shimul tree garden in Asia.

tourist map of sylhet

One of the best ways to experience the beauty of Shimul Bagan is to take a leisurely walk through the plantation and enjoy the scenic views. Numerous bird species can be found in the area, including the red-vented bulbul, the black-crowned night heron, and the white-throated kingfisher. It is a popular natural location and landscape photography spot because the vivid red Shimul flowers make for a beautiful backdrop for photography enthusiasts.

Take a CNG to reach Kumargaon Bus Station, then take abus to reach the Abdur Jahur Bridge. From there, take CNG to go to Tahirpur. At Tahirpur, you have to hire a boat.

Alternatively, hire a Car/NOAH which will take you to Tahripur.

Time is precious and not everyone has the luxury to spend multiple days exploring the city. So, we have tried to cover the most beautiful places which can be visited in a single day. While you immerse yourself in the delightful activities of WordCamp, don’t forget to take some time to explore the beauty of Sylhet.

Nestled in the enchanting northeast region of Bangladesh, Sylhet beckons tens of thousands of travellers every year with its mesmerising landscape adorned by lush green tea gardens, pristine swamp forests, and rolling hills.

Apart from its natural beauty and cultural heritage, this captivating destination is also blessed with meandering blue rivers and steeped in rich history, boasting an array of historical sites and revered shrines.

The newly elected mayor of Sylhet city, Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, shared with New Age Business magazine his perspective on the region’s tourism prospects, emphasizing the significant potential for further growth.

‘The tourism sector in the Sylhet region holds immense promise as it possesses nearly all the essential elements crucial for the development of tourism in any country,’ he said.

‘Now, our focus should be on harnessing this boundless wealth and potential… it is imperative that we effectively promote our tourist destinations … our illustrious history … our rich culture to both local and foreign visitors,’ he remarked.

M Naser Rahman, the owner of DuSai Resort and Spa, mentioned that tourists have been a constant presence in the Sylhet region, with their numbers now steadily increasing.

‘There has been a surge in local tourists visiting Sylhet; however, he expressed that the number of foreign tourists remains less than desired due to the shortcomings of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation,’ he said.

Sylhet is situated in the northeastern region of Bangladesh, bordered by Meghalaya State of India to the north, Tripura and Mizoram States of India to the south, Assam of India to the east, and parts of Dhaka, Chattogram, and Mymensingh divisions of Bangladesh to the west.

The mere touch of the feet of great Muslim saints has bestowed upon this region an indescribable atmosphere of spiritual tranquillity.

In addition to the sacred shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R), who arrived here approximately 1,200 years ago from the distant Middle Eastern country of Yemen to spread the teachings of Islam, Sylhet, encompassing four districts -- Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Sunamganj, and Sylhet -- also beckons visitors to the ancestral home of Shree Chaitanya Dev, a Hindu saint who advocated non-communal ideals in the subcontinent and opposed the caste system among his religious community.

The melodies of nature harmoniously resonate in the voices of the people who have grown up in close communion with nature in this region.

Thus, the lyrical tunes of poets like Hasan Raja, Radharaman, Shitalong Shah, and Shah Abdul Karim effortlessly emanate from the banks of the Surma, Kushiara, Khowai, and Kalni rivers in this captivating locale.

Among the fascinating tourist attractions of Sylhet district, often referred to as the ‘daughter of nature,’ the lush and expansive tea gardens that sprawl on the city’s outskirts deserve special mention.

Upon approaching the city’s outskirts, one is greeted by the sight of neatly aligned tea gardens.

The eyes of any tourist are invariably drawn to the scene of women diligently plucking tea leaves in the picturesque Lakkatura, Malnichhara, and Tarapur tea gardens.

Additionally, Jaflong, situated in Goainghat upazila, approximately 62 km northeast of Sylhet city, stands out as the most beloved tourist destination in Sylhet.

Nestled at the base of the Khashia-Jainta Hills of India’s Meghalaya State, Jaflong boasts a captivating landscape where cascading streams from the Khasia Jainta Hill flow into the Piyain and Dauki rivers, leaving behind a multitude of colourful pebbles on their riverbeds.

From a distance, this scenery creates the illusion of mountains touching the sky, with billowing clouds adding to the mesmerising vista.

Such a splendid display of nature’s beauty is a rarity, and Jaflong offers it in abundance.

The area also features Khasia tribal villages and betel nut leaf gardens, making it a comprehensive and enticing destination that draws tourists from all corners of the country year-round.

A visit to Jaflong also provides opportunities to explore nearby attractions, including Sada Pathar in Bholaganj, the charming fountain in Sreepur, the emerald-green water stream of River Lalakhal, the serene Tamabil Green Park, and Panthumai, a captivating blend of hills, rocks, and rivers.

The exploration of Sylhet’s natural beauty remains incomplete without a visit to the Ratargul Swamp Forest, the only freshwater swamp forest in South Asia.

Furthermore, during the monsoon season, the mesmerizing waves of crystal-clear water stretching across the vast expanse of Hakaluki Haor, the largest haor (wetland) in the country, have the power to captivate the heart of anyone fortunate enough to witness them.

Moulvibazar is renowned as the capital of tea gardens in the country and stands as a prime destination for nature-loving tourists.

This district is home to an impressive 153 out of the total 167 tea gardens in the country, making it the ultimate destination for immersing oneself in the undulating waves of greenery gracing the hillocks.

No visit to the Sylhet region is complete without exploring the treasures of Moulvibazar, including the Lawachhara National Park, the Bangladesh Tea Research Institute compound, Madhabkunda, and Humhum waterfalls, all of which are teeming with biodiversity and natural beauty.

Madhabkunda, the largest waterfall in the country, cascades gracefully from the heights of the Patharia hill in Baralekha upazila of Moulvibazar.

Beyond the refreshing touch of the waterfall, tourists are captivated by the lush, green Patharia hill.

The Madhabkunda Eco Park offers breathtaking views, with dense forests, idyllic picnic spots, expansive mountain valleys, and the soothing sound of water rushing down the rocky terrain, all combining to create a heavenly experience.

Another highlight here is Parikunda, a nearby fountain accessible with just a 20-minute walk from Madhabakunda.

For the new generation of tourists, a visit to Humhum waterfall, ensconced within the dense forests of Kamalganj upazila in Moulvibazar, is an irresistible attraction.

The Bangladesh Tea Research Institute is located in Srimangal upazila, and exploring its compound is a must to admire the vibrant gardens of colourful flowers, the collection of rare herbal plants, the tea testing laboratory, and the various indigenous tea plant species developed in the country.

Lauachhara National Park stands as another enchanting spot for nature enthusiasts, boasting 167 species of rare trees, 4 species of amphibians, 6 species of reptiles, 20 species of mammals, and 246 species of birds. Located in Kamalganj, tourists can hire local guides to enhance their experience and ensure safety.

Moulvibazar offers quality accommodation options at different locations, including Grand Sultan Hotel, Dusai Hotel, Rangauti Resort, and Lemon Garden, providing comfortable stays for visitors exploring this picturesque region.

In Sunamganj, the sheer beauty of nature unfolds through its vast water bodies. Tangoar Haor, recognised as the second ‘world heritage site’ of Bangladesh by UNESCO, is often referred to as a ‘mini sea’ by tourists.

Its allure is so strong that tourists eagerly traverse inaccessible paths to witness the captivating beauty of the River Zadukata and Barektila in Tahirpur upazila within the district.

tourist map of sylhet

Tangoar Haor, sprawling over approximately 100 square kilometers and encompassing Tahirpur and Dharmapasha upazilas, stands as one of the largest habitats for migratory birds. Each year, it welcomes an average of 20 to 25 lakh migratory birds.

Moreover, Tangoar Haor is a sanctuary for biodiversity, hosting 200 species of birds, 140 species of fish, 150 species of reptiles, over 100 species of invertebrates, and more than 12 species of frogs.

For heritage enthusiasts, Sunamganj offers additional attractions, including Hasan Raja’s home and mausoleum in Laxmanshree on the outskirts of the town. The 800-year-old palace of the former Laur State in Taherpur upazila is another captivating destination that draws heritage seekers with its historical significance.

The Teliapara Tea Garden in Madhavpur upazila of Habiganj holds a significant place in the history of our liberation war.

On April 4, 1971, the first meeting of freedom fighters took place in the manager’s bungalow of this tea garden, and General MAG Osmani led 27 retired army officers and officers of the East Bengal regiment in this historic gathering to liberate the motherland.

During this meeting, a momentous decision was made to divide the entire country into 11 sectors, a critical step in the liberation war.

To honour the memory of these freedom fighters, a bullet-shaped monument was erected in the Teliapara Tea Garden. This monument continues to attract people from across the country and abroad and the visitors often pay tribute to the war heroes by placing floral wreaths.

Satchhari National Forest in Chunarughat upazila of the district is one of Bangladesh’s renowned tourist destinations. Thousands of tourists visit Satchhari daily to experience the biodiversity and the stunning beauty of its plants.

Guided eco-tours allow visitors to discover rare trees, a variety of unique animal species, and extraordinary birds such as Shyama, Moyna, Basanti Bauri, Fotakanthi, and Satbail within the forest’s lush surroundings.

The forest is also home to small ethnic groups, and visitors can learn about their diverse lifestyles with a friendly approach.

For accommodations, tourists can choose The Palace Hotel and Resort located along the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Bahubal upazila or any of the options available in Sylhet city.

Tourism experts believe that the potential for developing the tourism industry in the Sylhet region remains largely untapped.

They argue that foreign tourists are not being attracted due to inadequate communication systems, poor infrastructure, and a lack of strategic initiatives to boost the industry.

Afzal Rashid Chowdhury, president of the Sylhet Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted the pressing issues faced by tourist spots in the Sylhet region.

He said that a severe shortage of clean washroom facilities and the absence of quality food options are the main challenges.

Many of these locations lack proper restroom facilities, and those that do exist are often unsanitary and unusable.

He observed that addressing these two critical problems promptly would likely lead to an increase in the number of local and foreign tourists visiting the tourist destinations in the Sylhet region.

Naser Rahman further expressed his disappointment, noting that the Parjatan Corporation has yet to implement effective measures for promoting and expanding the tourism industry.

He further said, ‘Government officials are not effectively managing the tourism sector and suggested that greater involvement of private sector investors is necessary to enhance the country’s tourism industry.’

tourist map of sylhet

Sylhet is known for its highlands, swamp forests, and haors. The breath-taking beauty of Sylhet's green surroundings and the welcoming nature of its locality is sheerly irresistible — in very few places in Bangladesh, you will find the mesmerising hillside beauty that Sylhet possesses. So, why wait to visit and see the vibrancy and exquisite travel places of Sylhet?

Lovachora, Kanaighat

For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel.

A tourist area that contains many tourist spots within, Lovachora is located in Kanaighat upazila, Sylhet where a crystal-clear river, a lush tea garden, and an antique cottage named Fergusson Bungalow along with a century-old suspension bridge reside. Sweeping hills border the river, Lova. The silhouettes of far-flung hilltops and the shade of the clouds falling on the water of Lova generate a heavenly sight. The Khasia-Jainta mountains of Meghalaya are not very far from Lovachora and early in the morning, deer, rabbits, and forest roosters roam the Lovachora tea garden.

You can take a boat from Kanaighat Sadar to navigate through the Lova River and reach Lovachora. The boat ride should take about an hour and a half to complete but stay assured that you will not get bored for a minute!

Ratargul Swamp Forest

The enchanting freshwater swamp forest of Ratargul, located in Gowain River, Sylhet, offers unique boat rides through its mystical waters to nature enthusiasts. Flanked by half-submerged trees and vibrant foliage, a boat ride through the emerald-green waters is nothing short of a surreal experience.

As your boat glides through the narrow channels, you will be serenaded by the melodious tunes of exotic birds and occasional sightings of snakes and various insects.

Ratargul Swamp Forest promises an immersive journey into the heart of nature's tranquillity, and to get there, you can hire engine boats, commonly known as trawlers from Gowainghat.

Swaddled by the Meghalayan ranges and situated under an immense blue sky, Dolura is a picturesque location in Sylhet that is visited by many tourists throughout the entire year. And not far away from Dolura is Narayantala village where indigenous people live. But the main place of interest is the Dolura Smriti Soudha, sited in a village near the Indo-Bangladesh border in the district of Sunamganj. This scenic historic place reminds us of the heroic sacrifice of our freedom fighters and it stands at the foot of the Meghalayan hilly region.

You can take a boat to go to Haluarghat and there CNG or battery-operated rickshaws are always available to take you to Dolura.

Khadimnagar National Park

Situated just around thirteen kilometres away from Sylhet, Khadimnagar National Park is made up of beautiful rolling hills and a natural forest. It is one of the major national parks of our country and has been declared a natural reserve. Famed tea gardens, Kalagool, Borjan, and Goolni tea estates surround the Khadimnagar National Park and the 679 hectares of evergreen forest will leave you awe-struck.

Khadimnagar National Park can be visited by hiring an auto rickshaw or CNG and there is also a local forest office, which is ready to provide you with trail maps to navigate the forest.

Bisanakandi

The rocks, boulders, and the stream flowing from high up in the mountain of Bisanakandi truly create such a tranquil bichana (a bed) where you can lie down and let all your worries and concerns dissolve. Bisanakandi is located near the Bangladesh-India border in Sylhet and here, many layers of the marvellous Khasi Mountain meet at a single point. The greenery and the fluffy clouds hugging the mountain provide it with a mesmeric view and the rainy season highlights the natural beauty of Bisanakandi most visibly.

Similar to Jaflong, Basankandi is also used for mining; hence, winter may not be the ideal time to visit this place. Bisanakandi is about twenty-five kilometres away from Sylhet and you can hire a boat to reach there.

Pang Thu Mai Village

Pang Thu Mai Village is a mesmerising tourist spot situated in Gowainghat upazila, Sylhet. It is a village that stands at the foothills of Meghalaya and just beside the village, an enormous waterfall flows down from the high hills, known as Panthumai Waterfall or Fatachhari Jharna. Even though the waterfall is occupied by India, you can enjoy the calm water and solitude of the mountains by standing on the Piyain River which takes its form from Meghalaya.

You can visit Pang Thu Mai Village by hiring any private transportation or taking a CNG from Sylhet city.

Some Basics About Sylhet

Sylhet is one of the most developed cities in South Asian country  Bangladesh . Sylhet is well famous for exporting quality tea all over the world and is also known as the Land of Tea Gardens. This city is also well known as Second London because many locals well settled in London and they always contribute a lot to develop their city.

Sylhet still carries many spiritual values to all. It became Holy Land when famous Sufi Hazrat Shah Jalal (R) came here for the first time with 360 saints to spread Islam.

Though Bengali is the primary spoken language everywhere in Bangladesh in Sylhet, locals find comfort talking in their language (Sylheti Bengali). You can communicate in English too.

There are many standard hotels, and resorts from budget to luxury in Sylhet to stay. Many good restaurants are there to taste all types of cuisines. But Bengali cuisines are a must-try for all.

When To Visit Sylhet?

Sylhet is one of the best tourism hubs in Bangladesh. The weather in Sylhet is cool in almost all seasons what you’ll not find in other places in Bangladesh. But the monsoon is the best time to explore the OUTSTANDING natural beauty of Sylhet.

How To Visit Sylhet?

You can travel Sylhet from Dhaka by air, road, or rail. There are also many excellent public bus services from Dhaka to Sylhet. Sylhet is very close to the Indian border (Tamabil) and so you can even visit by road from India.

Sylhet Tour Guide To Explore Solo in 5 Days

I made a road trip by private car service from Dhaka to all tourist places in Sylhet and found it comfortable and safe. My primary focus of this tour was to explore the natural beauty of Sylhet.

In my whole Sylhet tour, I was guided by Alamgir Bhai (Driver). It’s a pleasure to mention him here because he nicely guided and helped me to know a lot about Sylhet. This is what I love about solo travel. You’ll meet new people on the road. Furthermore, will learn something new from them.

Moreover, my five days itinerary will help you to plan your tour in Sylhet either solo or a group.

Sylhet, Britannia Hotel, Shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal, Shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran, Keane Bridge, Ali Amjad Clock Tower, Panshi Restaurant

Get in Sylhet City For The First Time

It was a pleasant experience, with no traffic jams, beautiful roads while crossing many bridges on the way to Sylhet from Dhaka. It took just 5 hours to reach Sylhet city, and the distance is almost 250 km.

I stayed at Britannia Hotel in Amberkhana, just 5 minutes walking distance from the Shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal. This hotel is one of the best in the central city with all the standard facilities.

Touring Around Sylhet City

In the afternoon I started exploring Sylhet city. Two famous shrines are located in Sylhet. First I liked to visit the Shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal. I read and heard a lot about this shrine and the world-famous Sufi Hazrat Shah Jalal (R). I’ve liked seeing many Black Pigeons (Jalali Kobutor) inside the shrine. Next, I visited the Shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran.

One the way, spend some time to enjoy the beauty of Surma River from one bridge which known as New Bridge to all. I came to know in other seasons Surma river lost its charm and became dry. The remote view of the Keane Bridge from this bridge was beautiful too. You can even try here street foods while sitting under the sky. One plate Phuchka  or Fusca is just 60 Taka, much less than Dhaka (150 Taka per plate).

Sylhet is located on the bank of the Surma River. The historic and oldest Keane Bridge (established in 1936) is still there over this river. Beside the bridge, you’ll see another old landmark Ali Amjad Clock Tower which built-in 1895. In the evening, during the sunset hour, the whole place was looking fantastic.

I found too much crowd around, and many are spending time at the Surma River Cruise Restaurant, favorite to all.

Zindabazar in Jallarpar Road is the most busier place in Sylhet city. All popular hotels, restaurants, and markets are located here and are good for shopping at a reasonable price. I had dinner with yummy and spicy Bangladeshi food at Panshi Restaurant, the most famous in the city for providing quality food at a low price.

  • Must carry National Card (for Bangladeshi) and Passport (for foreigners) while booking any hotel to stay. It is a good practice to carry wherever you go, especially when you’re traveling solo.
  • Overall Sylhet is a welcoming city for all and safe for tourists to move around. Locals are quite helpful.
  • You’ll find various types of persons with lousy motives outside the area of any shrines. Be careful about pick-pocketers while visiting those destinations.
  • It is never recommended to stay outside until late at night while traveling solo. You got to be cautious when you’re in a new place. I always try to maintain this wherever I visit alone or even accompanied by anyone.
  • After dinner, you might like to try Sweet Paan by the Khasi tribe, available outside of Panshi Restaurant. Yeah, it is the tradition here and how can you forget to have one?

Panthumai, Piyain River, Bisnakandi, Jaintia Hill Resort

The real adventure started on the second day of my Sylhet tour. After breakfast from Britannia Hotel left to visit remote but beautiful destinations like Panthumai and Bisnakandi.

But before that enjoyed some moments while walking on the Keane Bridge, the gateway of Sylhet. It was also amazing to hear the bell of the Ali Amjad Clock Tower (Big Ben of Sylhet).

On The Way To Panthumai & Bisnakandi

I must say I enjoyed the beautiful and rural landscape during my long journey in Sylhet. The view of green trees, green paddy fields from both sides of roads will never let you feel tired. And what to say about the beautiful blue sky, though sometimes cloudy but I love every shade of sky.

Panthumai is located in Gowainghat, almost 83 km from Sylhet. The road condition is not good, but difficult roads often take us to an attractive destination, and I realized that very well this time.

Panthumai is a remote village. The main attraction here is the Borhill waterfall with the backdrop of the Meghalaya mountain ranges. Borhill waterfall belongs to India but from the zero point possible to enjoy the natural beauty of that fall which is a part of the Piyain River.

It’s so unusual at the zero point because you’re just close to the Indian border like your one foot is in Bangladesh and another in India. Boundary facts!! Hehehe.

Here I went for a boat ride on the Piyain river to get a closer view of the fall, but no one is allowed to get very close.

Panthumai

The next destination was Bisnakandi . To explore the beauty of Bisnakandi you must have to hire an engine boat; the distance is long, it took almost 1.30 hours. The best part of this destination is the beautiful Piyain River and the natural view. I loved the clear water, rolling stones, and Khasi hills views at Bisnakandi.

In the evening after returning from Bisnakandi, I left for Jaintia Hill Resort in Jaintiapur. I stayed two nights here. This resort is so close to the Indian border (Tamabil), and Jaflong is very near to this resort. But this resort does not have any standard room services or facilities (no phone, TV, wi-fi), according to the price range. Huh!

  • To save time and distances, you can enjoy the view of the waterfall in Panthumai by boat while visiting Bisnakandi. You can hire a boat directly for Bisnakandi to Panthumai.
  • You can visit all popular tourist destinations directly from Sylhet city. I wanted to save time, and all places are quite near Jaflong and so stayed at Jaintia Hill Resort.

Jaintia Hill Resort, Sari River, Lalakhal, Ratargul Swamp Forest, Jaflong, Jaflong Inn Hotel & Restaurant

In the early morning, I enjoyed the sunrise through the Jaintia hill from the Jaintia Hill Resort. The mountain view with two waterfalls is the best part of this resort. While walking at the resort ground, from the boundary saw the Last House of Bangladesh.

Sari River To Lalakhal

I found the aerial view of Jaintiapur is beautiful. On the way saw the most beautiful Sari River (Emerald green color water) which leads to Lalakhal . Sari River is just near the Indian border and originated from Meghalaya, India.

Jaintiapur to Lalakhal distance is just 8.3 km, and you’ve to hire a boat from the Sarighat. There is much to see in Lalakhal. Before exploring Lalakhal, I had local breakfast (Rice with Chickpea) from one local hotel at Sarighat. The food was tasty. This is called Local Travel Charms.  😉

Lalakhal

It was so refreshing to see the pristine and naturally emerald green color water while enjoying the boat ride in Lalakhal which followed to the Lalakhal Tea Garden.

And then visit one Areca Nut Garden on the mountain (almost 60 feet high), it was superb to see the top view of Lalakhal from here.

One of the memorable parts of my Sylhet tour will be visiting one local village in Lalakhal. I met one family where everyone was so loving.

They were poor but big-hearted. I stayed there just 10 to 15 minutes and within that time served fresh lemon juice, tea, and much more to eat. The hospitality from them will always remember because this is called Unconditional Love.

A Boat Ride To Ratargul Swamp Forest

Then explored the Dreamland, Ratargul Swamp Forest in Gowainghat. Ratargul Swamp Forest is one of the best freshwater swamp forests in the world. My most favorite destination in Sylhet is Ratargul Swamp Forest regarding extraordinary beauty and adventure. A boat ride in this forest will always be a memorable one. The boatman (Jaynal) was such a kind person. He amazed me with his priceless smile and right talks. If anything attracts me is simplicity. Every love from new people around me throughout my journey will always remember.

On The Way To  Jaflong

In the evening enjoyed the sunset moment at Jaflong, the popular hill station in Bangladesh while coming back from the Tamabil border. The Sylhet-Tamabil highway road condition is not ok. And Jaflong lost its old beauty. I was sad to see how people are collecting stones and consequently destroying the natural beauty of this destination! Alamgir Bhai was sharing his own experience, how beautiful was Jaflong even 5 to 6 years back.

I had dinner at Jaflong Inn Hotel & Restaurant, found this new restaurant quite standard and clean among other local restaurants in Jaflong.

  • You have to hire a boat for Lalakhal according to an hour basis.
  • You can enjoy a boat ride at Ratargul Swamp Forest as long as you want but you’ve to hire the whole boat. Best to take a traditional boat without an engine to enjoy the sound of nature.

Kanaighat, Lovachora, Madhabkunda Eco Park & Waterfall, Parjatan Restaurant, Britannia Hotel

The early morning started for Lovachora by road from Kanaighat. This destination is almost 55 km from the resort. I wanted to visit Lovachora Tea Garden, but couldn’t manage permission to enter the garden. But it was worthy to come till this long; otherwise, I might never be able to see a fascinating landscape beauty in Sylhet.

Then started for Moulvibazar to visit Madhabkunda Eco Park & Waterfall. This destination is almost 3 hours from Kanaighat. But I loved this journey. The landscape beauty in Sylhet is vibrant and so you’ll like to go for a long drive.

Madhabkunda is a popular destination in Bangladesh. Almost all tourists here come to visit Madhabkunda waterfall. This fall located inside the Eco Park, where you’ll see various trees, like a picnic spot. This is also one temple and Parjatan Restaurant.

I had lunch at Parjatan Restaurant, here the food was very tasty though pricey.

In the evening came back to Sylhet city, and enjoyed while Instagramming with free Wi-Fi from Britannia Hotel.  😉

  • You’ve to buy a ticket to visit Madhabkunda Eco Park & Waterfall.
  • In Sylhet, you can enjoy local shopping at Manipuri Bazar. Here many types of handicrafts and fabrics made by Manipuri Tribal, much famous in Bangladesh.

Sreemangal, Lawachara National Park

I was sad as it was my last day in Sylhet. Early morning I checked out of the Britannia Hotel. I wanted to eat Beef Shatkora (Famous Local Dish) and had that for the first time from Panch Bhai Restaurant, another favorite restaurant for Bengali food at a low price.

I was quite happy because for the second time went to visit Sreemangal, the Tea Capital of Bangladesh. In the whole of Bangladesh, the excessive rainfall zone is Sreemangal. Therefore the weather of this destination is always cold and one of the best tourist spots in the country.

Sreemangal To Lawachara

The whole Sreemangal is blessed with lush green tea gardens, tea estates, and tea plantations. In addition, the best thing is that here in tea gardens most workers (75%) are women.

I had explored a lot at Lawachara National Park with the help of Eusuf Ali. He is a very experienced and also cooperative Tour Guide and showed me many unique paths at Lawachara Rain Forest .

Mushrooms of Lawachara Rain Forest in Sylhet

I also visited one Khasi Tribal village, and it was interesting to know about their lifestyle.

While coming back, Eusuf took me to see one Lemon Garden and Hot Chili Pepper (Naga Morich) Garden inside the forest. Here from one stall, I loved to taste Seven Layers Tea, very famous in Sylhet.

  • Must take Guide to explore Lawachara National Park.
  • You have to buy a ticket to visit Lawachara National Park.
  • Must buy Fresh Tea from Sreemangal. Here you’ll get the quality one.

Back To Dhaka

I took my last lunch in Sylhet from Panshi Restaurant, Sreemangal. The fish curry with plain rice here was yummy. And then came back to Dhaka by night.

Points of Interest in Sylhet [At a Glance]

  • Outstanding natural beauty and rural landscape.
  • Lush green Tea Gardens in Sreemangal.
  • Boat ride on beautiful rivers.
  • A long drive on beautiful roads.
  • Adventure at Ratargul Swamp Forest and Lawachara Rain Forest.
  • Yummy Bengali and Sylheti Food at a reasonable price.
  • Tribal villages and their lifestyle.

Now you got many reasons to visit Sylhet. And lastly, Bangladesh is a very hospitable country. No matter where you go, you’ll be always amazed by the hospitality of almost everyone you meet on the road.

01. bisnakandi.

Bisnakandi is a beautiful place, adorned with hills, stones, waterfall and river. You can go to this place especially on the month of June-July or August-September. especially during the rainy season, to have a nice view of current in water.

By walking over the stones in water and feeling the coldness, you will have a heavenly feeling! But as the stones are getting slippery day by day, so you must be careful while walking.

Bisnakandi

To have a secured tour there, either you should be a swimmer or you should have a swimmer beside you always.  Since it’s beside the border of India-Bangladesh, you must be careful too while swimming or roaming in the area.

Moreover, you can visit the tribal people of Khashiya and overall, I assure you that Bisnakandi won’t fail to amaze you, not at all!
