King Charles and David Beckham Are Teaming Up — Here's How

The King has tapped the former England soccer captain for a new ambassadorship

David Beckham is taking on a new royal role with King Charles !

On June 1, The King’s Foundation announced that Beckham, 49, has signed on as an ambassador. King Charles, 75, established the charity as the Prince of Wales in 1990 to create improved communities where people, places and the planet can harmoniously coexist.

Last month, the former England soccer captain paid a visit to King Charles’ Highgrove Gardens in Gloucestershire to meet the monarch to learn more about the organization and check out some of the charity’s educational programs at workshops on site. The King’s Foundation offers educational courses for around 15,000 students each year, plus health and well-being programs for another 2,000 people annually.

Other initiatives include regeneration projects across the U.K. and overseas to revitalize communities and historic buildings.

"I’m excited to be working with The King’s Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity’s work. I’ve always been keen to help young people to expand their horizons and I’m particularly looking forward to supporting the Foundation’s education programs and its efforts to ensure young people have greater access to nature," Beckham said in a statement.

"Having developed a love for the countryside, I’m also on a personal mission to learn more about rural skills which is so central to the Foundation’s work," he continued.

"It was inspiring to hear from the King about the work of His Majesty’s Foundation during my recent visit to Highgrove Gardens — and compare beekeeping tips!" he added. The retired soccer star has documented the hobby on social media and shares an interest in beekeeping with Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla .

During his visit to Highgrove Gardens, which are the grounds of the King’s private country estate, Highgrove House, Beckham met students taking woodworking classes at the Snowdon School of Furniture through the King’s Foundation, as well as students from the Métiers d’art Embroidery Fellowship coordinated in partnership with CHANEL and Le19M.

Beckham previously supported another major campaign with royal ties when he presented at the Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in Boston in December 2022 for the prestigious environmental prize established by Prince William .

The Times was first to report that the King and Beckham met about the foundation in May. The meeting reportedly fell a few days after Prince Harry ’s quick trip to the U.K. for the 10-year anniversary service of the Invictus Games . A spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex, 39, had previously confirmed that he would not meet his father due to the monarch’s "full" schedule.

Beckham received his OBE from Queen Elizabeth for services to soccer in 2003 and has socially known the royal family for years, having attended the royal weddings of both Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011 and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018 with his wife, Victoria Beckham .

Like many Brits, Beckham stood in line for 12 hours in London to pay respects to the late Queen Elizabeth when her coffin was laid in state at Westminster Hall following her death in September 2022.

The Travel Triangle

Heat, fuel and air. oh no, wait - that's the fire triangle. so what's the travel triangle.

Happy Friday!

Welcome to edition 312, coming to you live from the First Class carriage of the 9.10 from Barcelona to Paris.

I wouldn’t normally travel First Class, but these were the cheapest seats by far (€49) — a fact abundantly evident in the crowded aisles of the carriage.

There’s a family of five occupying the three seats ahead of me (fair play to them), beside an American husband and wife team with divergent approaches to crash-learning French in the six hours before we arrive.

The wife is patiently grinding her way through Duolingo, writing out convoluted sentences like ‘Voulez-vous aller en voiture au magasin?’ (‘Do you want to drive to the shop?’), while the husband taps ‘Hello, how are you?’ into Google Translate — whereupon the app promptly crashes. He’s now playing Candy Crush.

david charles travel

I’m three legs into my four-legged journey back to the UK from Portugal. I left Lisbon late on Wednesday evening and, after sliding through Madrid and Barcelona, I’m due back in Bournemouth tomorrow evening.

All the friends I was staying with in Lisbon will be making the same journey by plane, a fact that’s made me reflect on why I chose to travel overland instead.

It comes down to the three essential factors of any journey, which I shall pretentiously call the Travel Triangle:

How long does it take?

How much does it cost?

How comfortable is the traveller before, during and after the journey?

Most people probably only think of the first two sides of the travel triangle when they’re planning their holidays and, thanks to government subsidies and low-cost airlines, planes are perceived as both faster (obviously) and cheaper (criminally).

That’s why I want to spend a little bit of time exploring how on earth I managed to end up with an overland itinerary that was not only justifiable according to the travel triangle, but actually preferable on all three sides compared to flying.

Plane versus train: speed test

Firstly, let’s look at what would happen if we tried to match up trains versus planes on the plane’s strongest side of the travel triangle: time.

Although my overland journey will take three nights and days, I’ve calculated that it is technically possible to leave Lisbon at 10.30am and arrive in Bournemouth the following afternoon:

1030-0505 Coach from Lisbon to Bordeaux

0558-0929 Train from Bordeaux to Paris

1113-1230 Eurostar from Paris to London

1315-1600 Train from London to Bournemouth

Unfortunately, this hectic itinerary would lose out to flying on all three sides of the travel triangle:

At 30 hours, it would take three times as long as flying (including getting to the airport and going through security and immigration).

One way and booked three weeks in advance, this journey would cost about £240, compared to about £140 by plane.

On this schedule, the poor traveller would not only miss out on a night’s sleep, but also spend 25 out of those 30 hours on their backside. Not healthy.

Using the travel triangle, it’s easy to see that long distance overland travel cannot compete with planes on speed. If you need to get somewhere as soon as physically possible, it’ll probably be quicker, cheaper and more comfortable to fly. Sorry.

But there is good news!

If we tweak our itinerary to favour the strengths of overland travel rather than the strengths of flying, then it’s not hard to come up with journeys where overlanding is not only justifiable, but preferable — on all three sides of the travel triangle.

Train versus plane: rematch

The following sentence sums up the great strength of overland travel:

No one (but no one) wants their plane to stop mid-way.

(Once upon a time, while waiting for a delayed train in Brussels, I heard a fellow traveller lauding this particular benefit of air travel: ‘At least you either arrive or you don’t.’)

Assuming that most people don’t wish to disembark mid-way, my friends who fly get two stops: London and Lisbon.

In stark contrast, my terrestrial alternative needs freakin’ bullet points to encompass the delightful array of city breaks I’ll enjoy:

London (twice)

Paris (twice)

This was my first trip abroad since 2019, during which time two friends had moved out of London to live in Paris and Bayonne respectively. So, when my co-writer Beth Granville suggested working together for a week in Lisbon, I immediately knew I could plan a trip that fully exploited the strengths of overlanding.

In Paris, Tim and I did some hiking in Rudenoise and Chantilly; in Bayonne I got to hang out with friends in Basque country, hiking in the foothills of the Pyrenées and visiting the pretty towns of Sare and Saint Jean-de-Luz; in Madrid I met up with a new friend who’ll be cycling with us on Thighs of Steel this summer; and in Barcelona I got to sleep off a cold I picked up in the Saharan dust storm that hit Lisbon on Tuesday.

As I write these words, our train is passing over a narrow spit of land that bisects a vast lagoon on the Mediterranean coast near Narbonne. It would have been easy to have added yet more adventures to my journey — the Algarve and Andalucía, Bilbao and San Sebastián, Montpellier and Nîmes.

The lesson is that, if we plan itineraries that take advantage of overlanding’s great strength, then the travel triangle magically starts to work in our favour.

Round 1: Cost

Yes, the face value of point-to-point train tickets are often more expensive than the plane equivalents, but this all changes when we start to add stops.

My overland journey from Bournemouth to Lisbon and back cost me £366.

(Incidentally, the London-Bournemouth leg is both the shortest and, horrifyingly, very nearly the most expensive of the entire journey.)

I booked only three weeks before I left and, while it’s reasonable to say that I didn’t get the best prices, it’s also true that I probably couldn’t do it very much cheaper. The Man In Seat 61 suggests around £300.

(Personally, I don’t think it’s fair to add the cost of overnight stays to the overall cost of overland travel because that’s all part of the holiday. For full disclosure, however: I stayed with friends in Paris and Bayonne and spent £60 on two nights in Madrid and Barcelona.)

Looking at flights, I can see that Bournemouth to Lisbon and back costs around £220-240. So flying direct would have saved me about £120 — but only if I’d been happy to miss out on seeing my friends.

(Note: If you book further in advance, and want to spend the night near Stansted Airport, you can get cheaper flight-based journeys at around £170-200 return from Bournemouth. But I want to compare apples with apples. Thanks to JCK for this research!)

If we only include my longer stopovers in Paris and Bayonne, then travelling by plane would have cost another £140. If I were to add Madrid and Barcelona as well, then flying would be sheer craziness.

Take home message: overlanding with stops is cheaper than flying with stops.

Trains 1 Planes 0

Round 2: Time

With cost out of the equation, the decisive factor in choosing between overlanding and flying will, for most people, be time.

I’m not talking about the time taken for each leg of the journey — the longest of my overland journeys was eight hours, which is less than I would have needed to get from Bournemouth to Lisbon by plane.

I’m talking about the total amount of time the traveller has for the whole trip — and how they want or need to spend that time.

If you have two weeks’ holiday and you want to visit friends in Paris and Bayonne or stop by Barcelona and Madrid on your way to Lisbon, then travelling overland is the best way for you to travel. End of.

If you only have a week’s holiday, then Lisbon is off the cards for overlanders unless you’re prepared for the hectic itinerary that opened this piece. Sorry.

The same is true if, for some reason, you need to be in Lisbon for as much of the whole two weeks as possible.

For example: flying to Lisbon would occupy about 6 percent of a two week stay. Even at its fastest, overlanding gobbles up 18 percent, with a more relaxed itinerary swallowing 22 percent of your total time away.

On this occasion, for me, the time allowed for the whole trip was flexible — a few days either side would have made no difference.

But overlanding did help me change the way I spent my holiday, not only by allowing those stopovers in Paris and Bayonne, but also in moments like this, where I have the time and comfort to do some writing.

(In fact, if you are lucky enough to be able to do actual work on the long train journeys, then you might even be able to earn back the cost of overlanding — good for you!)

Trains 2 Planes 0

Round 3: Comfort

This is where things become a little more personal, as we all define ‘comfort’ in different ways:

How anxious does this mode of transport make you feel — both before you leave and during the journey?

How many bags do you need to take?

How much space do you need?

How much information do you need to feel reassured?

How comfortable are you operating in foreign languages and in unfamiliar cities?

Militarised airport security, train ticket barriers or coach driver whimsy?

Drinks trolley, buffet car or service station?

How do you feel when you arrive?

For me, trains win on every count, every time. Coaches are a bit more problematic: less information, less space, less smooth — but I’d still choose them over the airport security and border checks that make me feel like a pre-criminal.

Trains 3 Planes 0

Think of the children!

Many people choose to go Flight Free because of the massive 95 percent reduction in carbon emissions when travelling overland compared to flying.

According to recent research by The Jump , individual citizens have primary influence over 25-27 percent of the total emissions savings needed to stop ecological breakdown. That’s pretty cool. It means that we can all take direct action today.

(Note: this 25-27 percent figure is an average and lower income groups are responsible for far fewer emissions. The more you earn, the greater your obligation to change.)

Of this 25-27 percent, reducing our use of aeroplanes to one short haul flight every three years would deliver a 2 percent reduction in emissions by 2030.

That’s a bloody good reason to stop flying. But it’s not my reason.

I have never chosen overlanding because of its lower impact on the environment and I’ve taken too many flights in my lifetime to waste my time preaching to anyone else.

I choose overlanding because, for me, it’s the most comfortable, most connected and most creative way to travel.

Now that’s what I call a travel triangle.

Calling all writers and actors: supercharge your creativity

In Lisbon, I spent the week with three of finest creative minds operating in the world today. Admittedly, these are my friends and I might be biased.

But luckily you don’t have to trust me — you can find out for yourself by hiring at least two of them to supercharge your creativity.

I’ve worked with Beth Granville for almost a decade now (!) and she’s the big reason why Foiled was described as ‘the perfect comedy’ by The Stage, why our radio sitcom ran for four series when most are lucky to get one, and why A-listers like Sir Derek Jacobi agreed to work for no money on Radio Wales.

But, again, don’t trust me, trust big time actor Ralf Little:

Beth is a unique combination of visionary and collaborator. She would be an asset to any writer or production company savvy enough to work with her.

Find out how Beth can help you get the most out of your work on her shiny new website .

Meanwhile, director and force of nature Tom O’Brien is opening his Embodied Process Digital Acting Course next week. With a direct lineage to Stanislavski, Tom’s process is an incredible way to get a performance out of your head and into your body.

I’ve seen it up close and in action and I can tell you that it works. Get on the Embodied Process wait list via Tom’s website now .

If you’re not a writer or actor, then you should probably network Beth and Tom to your creative friends. They’ll thank you one day.

Due to a combination of intercostal muscle injury and — let’s be honest — fear, I only ventured into the Atlantic on my last morning in Portugal.

It’s not for nothing that Costa da Caparica has no fewer than 50 surf schools. But after only a fifteen minute immersion, the joy of the playfully destructive ocean has snuck into my heart.

The Saharan dust cloud smogged out the morning light while the waves lashed my legs from under me and the white water dragged me along the sand by my feet.

A moment to hold.

Big love, dc:

How to see the best of norway on hurtigruten cruises.

Hurtigruten's coastal ferries rarely venture far from the Norwegian coastline.

Hurtigruten is a well-known name among tourists with a keen interest in Scandinavian travel. Renowned for its scenic voyages along the Norwegian coast, Hurtigruten has been a staple in the Nordic travel industry for decades.

What travelers might not realize is that Hurtigruten now offers three distinct types of cruise experiences in Norway, provided by two separate companies under the Hurtigruten brand.

These experiences cater to different interests and expectations, making it essential for travelers to understand the nuances of each option before booking their trips.

Whether you are looking for a classic coastal voyage, an Arctic expedition, or fancy trying out a new signature route, Hurtigruten has something to offer everyone with an interest in visiting Norway.

Understanding the three options will help you select the experience that best aligns with your travel goals and ensure that your adventure through Norway's stunning landscapes and rich culture is everything you hope for.

Why Christina Ricci Is Giving Up Ownership Of Wednesday Addams

Wwe smackdown results, winners and grades on june 7, 2024, howard university returning sean diddy combs 1 million donation amid sexual misconduct allegations, the hurtigruten experience explained.

Hurtigruten is not a typical cruise line. Instead of focusing on onboard entertainment and luxury amenities, Hurtigruten emphasizes the natural beauty and cultural richness of Norway.

Hurtigruten emphasizes the Norwegian coastline as the entertainment on its voyages, shown by the ... [+] design of its observation lounge.

Passengers can expect an immersive experience that brings them closer to Norway's stunning landscapes and unique wildlife.

Most Hurtigruten ships are older cruise ferries, with a few newer expedition ships added to the fleet. All ships prioritize functionality and comfort over amenities. Regardless of the age of the ship, there is no onboard entertainment in the traditional cruising sense.

Instead, the entertainment is the Norwegian coastline, wildlife, and some limited enrichment activities, such as lectures and occasional guided tours, depending on the itinerary.

Excellent food is a feature across the fleet, with an emphasis on local and sustainable ingredients. Fish and seafood feature strongly on the dinner menus, while lavish breakfast and lunch buffet meals ensure passengers never go hungry.

Norway’s Historic Coastal Route

Although the line has diversified since losing the exclusive rights to operate the route, Norway’s historic coastal ferry route remains the backbone of Hurtigruten's offering.

Daily departures from Bergen continue. Hurtigruten operates departures on seven of 11 days, with Havila Voyages operating the other four.

There's a casual atmosphere aboard Hurtigruten's coastal route ships.

This route has been operating since 1893, serving as a lifeline for Norway’s remote, coastal communities. Today, the journey stretches from Bergen in the southwest to Kirkenes in the northeast, covering over 2,500 miles.

Passengers can embark on a full 11-night round trip from Bergen, take a one-way voyage, or do as the locals do and use the service as a ferry for shorter segments.

Regardless of the option you pick, this route offers a thoroughly enjoyable blend of scenic beauty and cultural experiences. Passengers will see dramatic fjords, charming coastal towns, and the northern lights in the winter or the midnight sun in the summer.

Multiple daily port calls allow for excursions and exploration in some ports, but many are short stops designed simply for the loading and unloading of cargo and local passengers.

Hurtigruten’s New Signature Voyages

To mark the 130th anniversary of the coastal route and make more use of MS Trollfjord , Hurtigruten introduced two unique itineraries called the Svalbard Express and North Cape Express.

The passenger-only voyages proved popular, so Hurtigruten recently made them a permanent addition to its program , with departures available from Bergen and Oslo.

Now named ‘Signature Voyages’, the renamed Svalbard Line (summer) and North Cape Line (winter) offer unique itineraries with longer port stays, no local ferry service, all-inclusive Nordic cuisine, personalized guiding, and enrichment activities.

Norway's North Cape has been a tourist destination for hundreds of years.

The experience is arguably better for experienced cruisers than the coastal route, with fewer, longer port calls, and a more cruise-like experience, despite still lacking the entertainment of traditional cruise lines.

Expedition Cruises In Norway

Now known as HX , Hurtigruten Expeditions offers expedition cruises across the world, but also in its home waters of Norway.

These cruises are designed for those who want to explore remote and less-visited areas of Norway, often beyond the Arctic Circle. Expedition cruises are conducted on smaller, specialized ships equipped for polar waters and include a range of activities such as kayaking, hiking, and wildlife spotting.

Passengers are accompanied by expert guides and scientists, who provide insights into the natural environment and local culture. These cruises retain the core of the Hurtigruten experience but offer a more rugged and hands-on approach to exploring Norway’s wilderness.

Available HX expedition cruises to Norway include exploring the Arctic winter aboard MS Spitsbergen or circumnavigations of Svalbard aboard MS Fram .

Expedition cruises in Svalbard allow visitors to get closer to nature.

The latter offers a much more in-depth exploration of Svalbard’s glaciers and wildlife than some other lines' Svalbard cruises, which may make just one port call in Longyearbyen.

Booking Tips For Hurtigruten Cruises In Norway

Although Hurtigruten trips are a bucket list item for many travelers, research should be done in advance of booking to fully understand the ships, travel concept, and other factors that may impact enjoyment. That’s especially true for someone used to traditional cruising.

Hurtigruten’s smaller ships mean that guests will feel the movement of the ocean more. On the coastal route, certain stretches such as rounding Norway’s West Cape and crossing Vestfjorden towards Lofoten are renowned for their rough seas, especially when sailing outside of the summer season.

Hurtigruten fares are also higher than guests may expect, especially on the coastal route.

Part of the reason for this is the coastal route ships are subject to local laws and must use Norwegian-speaking crew primarily for safety reasons. This requires the payment of relatively high salaries and imposing high taxes on alcohol, among other factors, that keep prices higher than some alternative travel options.

Despite the high prices, there’s a lot to love about the Hurtigruten experience in Norway, which keeps many travelers coming back year after year.

The breathtaking natural landscapes, rich cultural experiences, and unique itineraries that cater to a range of interests make Hurtigruten cruises a standout choice for exploring Norway.

King Charles David Beckham

David Beckham has told of his excitement at being made a charity ambassador by King Charles , following a visit by the former footballer to the monarch’s country home.

The Sun newspaper reports that Charles has given Beckham the royal appointment , after the pair bonded last year over a shared knowledge and love of the countryside.

Yesterday, Beckham was formally appointed as an ambassador of The King’s Foundation, which focuses on creating better communities where people, places and the planet can coexist in harmony.”

“This is a massive thing for him and he’s delighted. He is really passionate about his new role.”

Beckham enjoyed a glittering football career with teams in the UK, the US, Spain and France. He now co-owns soccer team Inter Miami, which recently signed superstar Lionel Messi for his career swansong. Beckham’s life and career were recently documented in a four-part Netflix hit series.

An ardent royalist, Beckham has made no secret of his desire to be awarded a knighthood. He joined thousands of other mourners in paying tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth, standing in the long queue overnight to file past her coffin in September 2022.

I believe in Adventure

There are many varieties of adventure, so what do I mean when I use the word?

I like this definition: A wild and exciting undertaking (not necessarily lawful) .

Adventure, by any definition, is not limited to epic bike tours through foreign lands, climbing mountains and sleeping in cold huts.

Rather, adventure is a way of being in the world. It is a shortcut to two feelings that I treasure most in life: connection to people and place, and awe.

I believe in slow travel

The art of the journey as adventure. I stopped using aeroplanes in 2010 for the simple reason that air travel stunts my imagination.

Aeroplanes are boring.

Since then, I have walked all over the country, from the cathedrals of the south-east to the summits of the Highlands. I have hitch-hiked with strangers from London to Ben Nevis. I have toured tens of thousands of miles on my bicycle.

Since quitting aeroplanes I have never travelled more.

I believe in the community of adventure

My adventures have always brought me into close contact with fellow human beings, from the camaraderie of the Calais Critical Mass and Thighs of Steel, to the friends I have made in refugee camps all over Europe.

I believe in No Borders

I believe that every being on earth has the right to roam, to pursue their own adventures, without barrier or boundary.

I believe that borders are an anomaly and injustice of history that will be corrected quite naturally by our indomitable humanity.

I believe in the return

Ultimately, I believe that our adventures teach us something important about who we are, and who we could be. We must but listen.

I believe in the words of TS Eliot:

We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time.

CHICAGO (AP) — Tina Charles scored 22 points, Cheyenne Parker-Tyus added 18 and the Atlanta Dream beat the Chicago Sky 89-80 on Saturday.

Allisha Gray scored 14 points for Atlanta (5-4) and Aerial Powers 11. Rhyne Howard finished with 10 points, 10 assists and six rebounds.

Diamond DeShields hit a pull-up jumper to make it 4-2 a minute into the game but Chicago missed six consecutive shots and committed three turnovers as the Dream ripped off a 15-2 run — capped when Gray made back-to-back 3-pointers — before Angel Reese made a layup that cut the Sky’s deficit to 17-8 almost five minutes later.

Atlanta (5-4) hit 12 of 22 from the field in the first quarter and led 29-15 going into the second.

Reese finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds and five steals. The 6-foot-3 rookie had her third consecutive double-double and her fourth of the season for Chicago (4-6). Kamilla Cardoso and Dana Evans also scored 13 points apiece and Marina Mabrey added 12.

Lindsay Allen converted a three-point play to cap a 7-0 spurt and cut the Sky’s deficit to 78-75 midway through the fourth quarter but Charles answered with two free throws. Parker-Tyus followed with a layup and then two free throws and Howard hit a deep 3-pointer that made it 87-79 with 1:42 left.

Galveston responds to charles barkley's 'dirty ass water' comments, charles barkley galveston responds to 'dirty ass water' comment ... pelicans get invite.

Galveston, TX is returning fire after Charles Barkley took a shot at their "dirty" beaches on national television ... with the city clapping back, saying millions of people visit for their "beautiful shoreline."

ICYMI, the NBA legend roasted the city, nicknamed the "Queen City of the Gulf," located about 50 miles southeast of Houston ... after the New Orleans Pelicans disappointing 106-85 loss to Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday.

Chuck’s had it with the Pelicans 💀 pic.twitter.com/hko6mQY8kN — NBA on TNT (@NBAonTNT) April 27, 2024 @NBAonTNT

"They didn't even try, man," Barkley said on NBA on TNT. "We're not giving them no plane ticket to the beach."

That's when Barkley said the lackluster performance didn't warrant a trip to a beautiful beach in Mexico ... and he had another destination in mind.

"We sending they ass to Galveston, Texas, right where that dirty water washed up on the beach. They can't even get in no water. That dirty ass water. We not even gon' send them to Cancun."

We called Galveston after Chuck's comments went viral ... and the city sees their home a bit differently than the Hall of Famer.

"While Galveston might not be the place for Chuck, we’d be more than happy to host the New Orleans Pelicans and share our sun-kissed beaches, luxurious 4-diamond resorts, exclusive spas, million-dollar beach homes, world-class attractions, and exceptional gulf seafood," Visit Galveston CEO and spokesperson Kimberly Danesi told us.

"We are proud of our beautiful shoreline hand cleaned by our coastal zone management team 365 days a year and kept safe by our internationally recognized lifeguards."

If the squad's interested, the Pelicans have time to visit ... they were swept by OKC on Monday. 4 up, 4 down, season over.

The city honchos weren't the only ones responding to Barkley's comments ... Beyoncé 's mom, Tina , born and raised in Galveston, also had a message for Barkley.

"Chuck we don't play about Galveston Texas!" Tina said on Instagram. "You better watch it sucker! 😂😂Our water might not be blue, but it is still the beach and we love it!"

As the saying goes ... "Don't mess with Texas!"

Rachael Anderson Murder: Where is Charles Capone Now?

of Rachael Anderson Murder: Where is Charles Capone Now?

In April 2010, a loving mother and grandmother vanished into thin air, leaving her family with many questions. Investigation Discovery’s ‘Hometown Homicide: We Are Watching You’ deals with this very case. Despite a rigorous search, Rachael was not found. As the days turned to years, the hope for justice started to wane. But all that changed about three years after her disappearance. So, are you wondering what exactly happened to Rachael and who was responsible for her death? We’ve got you covered.

How Did Rachael Anderson Die?

Rachael Anderson was born in June 1969 and hailed from Clarkston, Washington. The 40-year-old was a mother of two sons and two daughters. At the time, she had been going through a separation from Charles Capone. The couple was married in September 2009, but just three months later, Rachael filed for divorce. On April 16, 2010, she had gone to Charles’ car repair shop in Moscow, Idaho, to check on the status of her car.

david charles travel

Just a few days later, Rachael’s daughters reported her missing when she did not show up to the pathology lab she worked at. An extensive search for her was carried out, and on April 21, the car she was driving at the time was found in Lewiston, Idaho, with her phone and purse inside. She borrowed the car from one of Charles’ friends. When Charles was interviewed, he claimed that Rachael was at his garage on April 16 but left with a man named Vince. Despite search efforts, Rachael’s body was never found.

Who Killed Rachael Anderson?

Right away, the suspicion fell on Charles. In the months leading up to her disappearance, Rachael reported that she was receiving harassing phone calls and was being stalked. Her car was vandalized multiple times, and she believed that Charles was behind all of this. Rachael was so scared that she had even bought a gun for herself, according to her family. When questioned, Charles admitted to making the harassing phone calls but maintained that he had nothing to do with her disappearance.

david charles travel

Charles had a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1985. He was previously convicted of aggravated assault and attempted armed robbery. In December 2009, he was charged with second-degree assault for attempting to strangle Rachael. He later pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm and served 33 months in prison. The case came together three years after Rachael disappeared.

Charles and a friend of his, David Stone, were arrested in relation to the murder. They believed that Charles killed his estranged wife, and David helped him dispose of the body. It was revealed that the two of them had a pact to kill each other’s wives. One of David’s former coworkers told police that David once asked him to kill his wife, Alisa. But David later put off that plan because he and Charles decided to kill each other’s wives. Alisa had a large life insurance policy on her.

But David agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge and testify against Charles. He claimed that on April 16, he saw Charles choke Rachael. He then said that Charles threatened his family, so he did as he was told. David helped Charles put Rachel’s body inside the back of a car and covered her body with garbage bags. After abandoning her car, where it was eventually found, they drove her body to a bridge and dumped it into the local river. David said they weighed the body down with heavy snow chains. David said he was a born-again Christian, and he just wanted to do the right thing now.

david charles travel

There were prison inmates who spent time with Charles that testified that he said things such as she wasn’t coming back and that Rachael was buried “so deep” that she would never be located. Furthermore, a cadaver dog detected human decomposition in the car Rachael was driving that day. Both Rachael and Charles’ DNA was found on the tip of a black latex glove that was in the car. The gloves matching this glove tip were later found in Charles’ truck.

Where is Charles Capone Now?

In September 2014, Charles was found guilty of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He received an additional 20 years after being found guilty on the counts of failure to report a death to law enforcement and conspiracy for failure to notify law enforcement of a death. David pleaded guilty to not reporting a dead body to the authorities and was sentenced to three to seven years in prison with credit for time served.

david charles travel

Charles maintained his innocence throughout this period. “It’s so frustrating to know people weren’t telling the truth, and because they weren’t getting the answers, they created them,” he said in court. In 2018, his request for a new trial was rejected. As per prison records, he remains incarcerated at Idaho State Correctional Center in Kuna, Idaho.
