Stand Up Paddling, kurz SUP oder auch Stehpaddeln genannt, ist eine Wassersportart aus Hawaii. Der Sportler steht aufrecht und setzt sein Board mit einem Paddel in Bewegung. Stehpaddeln ist von ungeübten Erwachsenen und Kindern leicht zu erlernen. SUP fördert die Muskelkraft, Koordination und Kondition.

Über SUP Donau

• Die Donau ist der zweitlängste Fluss Europas und fließt durch Deutschland ( Bayern und Baden-Württemberg ), Österreich , Tschechien, Slowakei, Slowenien , Kroatien, Ungarn, Bulgarien und Rumänien. Sie hat eine beeindruckende Länge von 2.857 Kilometern und bietet unzählige SUP-Möglichkeiten in verschiedenen Ländern und Landkreisen.
• Auf der Donau ist Stand Up Paddling grundsätzlich erlaubt. Allerdings gibt es regionale Einschränkungen und es ist empfehlenswert, sich vorher über die lokalen Vorschriften zu informieren. In gewissen Gebieten, wie zum Beispiel dem Landkreis Sigmaringen, benötigt man einen Befahrschein.
• Die Donau fließt durch bedeutende Städte wie Wien und Ulm , was sie auch für städtische SUP-Touren attraktiv macht. Die Touren bieten eine einzigartige Kombination aus Natur und Kultur mit beeindruckenden städtischen Panoramen und Wasserwegen durch die Stadtzentren.
• Der Fluss hat eine Reihe von SUP-Stationen entlang des Flusslaufs.
• Sonnencreme & Mückenschutz: Verwende im Sommer stets Sonnencreme und Mückenspray, um Hautschäden und Insektenstiche zu verhindern.

• Für deine Anreise mit dem Auto zur Donau sind die genauen Start- und Zielpunkte deiner Tour entscheidend. Informiere dich deshalb vor deiner Fahrt über die beste Route zu deinem Startpunkt an der Donau.
• Auch die Anreise zur Donau mit der Bahn ist abhängig von deinem genauen Start- und Zielpunkt. Als einer der längsten Flüsse Europas durchquert die Donau viele Städte und Länder mit umfangreichen Bahnverbindungen. Informiere dich also bei der Bahn deines Landes über die besten Verbindungen zu deinem Startpunkt.

Die besten SUP Touren an der Donau

#1 auf der alten donau und dem donaukanal durch wien.

• Länge: Ungefähr 20 Kilometer
• Zeitraum: Sommermonate

Die Donau prägt die Ästhetik des klassischen Wiener Stadtbildes beträchtlich und ist aus diesem nicht wegzudenken.

Falls du also schon immer einmal die österreichische Hauptstadt besuchen möchtest, warten nicht nur Kaffeehäuser, klassische Architektur, Wiener Lebensgefühl und der Prater auf dich, sondern auch eine SUP-Route, die dich in ihren Bann ziehen wird.

Ein guter Einstiegspunkt für deine SUP-Tour durch die Wiener Donau ist die Insel des Donauparks – genauer gesagt das Ostufer der Insel nahe der SUP Station Flotus und der Segelschule Club Danube.

Von dort aus kann der Nebenfluss betreten werden, der als Alte Donau bezeichnet wird. Sobald du an dieser Stelle das Wasser betreten hast, stehen dir zahlreiche Möglichkeiten offen, Wien mit dem SUP zu erkunden.

Am meisten hast du allerdings von deiner Stadttour, wenn du auf deinem Weg eine Fahrt durch den Donaukanal wahrnimmst, die mitten durch die Altstadt führt.

Dieser fließt von der Nußdorfer Schleuse im Norden der Stadt bis zum Praterspitz im Südosten, wo er sich wieder mit der eigentlichen Donau vereint.

Wenn du also mit der Strömung paddeln möchtest, gilt es in der Nähe der Schleuse den Kanal zu betreten.

Dabei ist es wichtig anzumerken, dass der Donaukanal mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 5 bis 7 km/h recht zügig fließt. Deshalb sollten sich nur erfahrenere Stand Up Paddler auf den Kanal wagen.

Allerdings muss der Kanal erstmal vom angegebenen Startpunkt aus erreicht werden.

Hierfür ist es notwendig, die Alte Donau in Richtung Nordwesten zu durchqueren. Dabei unterfährst du die Kagraner Brücke und kommst an vielen Stegen und Bootshäusern vorbei.

Leider gibt es keine Wasserverbindung zwischen der Alten Donau und dem Hauptstrom des Flusses. Deshalb ist es nötig, das Wasser wieder zu verlassen und ein Stück weit durch die Stadt zu gehen.

Geeignete Orte dafür sind der Strand beim Strandbad Angelibad oder der ein paar Meter weiter westlich gelegene Hundestrand. Von hier aus kannst du über den Bahndammweg den Georg-Stanzer-Steg erreichen, der dich in den westlichen Wiener Stadtteil führt.

Auf dem hochgelagerten Steg überquerst du die langgezogene Donauinsel, welche den Fluss in zwei unterschiedliche Arme spaltet. Das heißt, dass du während deiner Überquerung einen weiten Blick aus erhöhter Position auf die Donau genießt und es sich lohnt, den Ausblick ein wenig auf sich wirken zu lassen.

Sobald du den Steg überquert hast, bewegst du dich ein Stück weit in rechter Richtung am Donauufer entlang, bis du nach links in die Straße Friedrich-Engels-Platz einbiegst.

Von hier aus kannst du den kleinen Stadtpark in Richtung Westen durchqueren, bis du die Forsthausgasse erreichst und ihrem Verlauf folgst, bis du das Ufer des Donaukanals erreicht hast.

Hier kannst du wieder aufs Wasser setzen und den Donaukanal flussabwärts bereisen. Vor dir liegt also eine Strecke von 15 Kilometern, die dich quer durch die Wiener Innenstadt führt.

Highlights auf dieser Strecke sind der Wettsteinpark, der beide Kanalufer auf einer Strecke von knapp 1 Kilometer prägt und einen frischen, grünen Kontrast zur Wiener Stadtfassade bietet.

An den Park anschließend gibt es für dich die schwimmenden Gärten zu besuchen, die auf künstlichen Inseln in den Kanal hineinragen.

Weitere Highlights sind die Urania Sternwarte, die sich in einem Gebäude mit barocker Fassade befindet, auf dessen Dach ein Türmchen mit der Kuppel der Warte thront. Die Sternwarte ist jedoch nicht das einzige Beispiel einnehmender Architektur, das den Verlauf der Strecke ziert.

Wenig später passierst du das Kunst Haus Wien – Museum Hundertwasser. Im krassen Kontrast zu den barocken Gebäuden sticht dieses Gebäude mit bunten Farben und unregelmäßigen Mustern heraus.

Am Ende der Strecke umrundest du in linker Richtung den Prater Spitz und kannst am Ostufer der Donau den Kiesstrand der Donauinsel erreichen, um deine Tour zu beenden und den Rest deines Aufenthalts im schönen Wien zu planen.

#2 Tour auf der Donau bis nach Ulm

Während die vorherige Tour eine urbane SUP-Erfahrung beschreibt, bietet der Donaulauf in Richtung Ulm Natur pur. Dabei kannst du selbst entscheiden, wie lang die Strecke sein soll.

So gibt es entlang des Laufs viele kleine Örtchen, die einen geeigneten Einstiegspunkt für die Donautour in Richtung Ulm darstellen.

Für eine mittellange Strecke von ungefähr vier Stunden bietet sich das Städtchen Erbach an. Bevor man sich auf die Donau wagt, gibt es in Erbach sogar einen Baggersee, in dem man sich aufwärmen und auch einige Runden drehen kann.

Eine gute Einstiegsstelle in die Donau selbst ist das Flussufer südlich der Kanu-Station Einstieg Kanu Tour Erbach. Sobald du den Fluss mit deinem SUP betreten hast, folgst du dem Lauf in Richtung Nordosten.

Auf diesem Teil der Strecke kannst du bis nach Donaustetten auf deiner rechten Seite landwirtschaftliche Felder betrachten, während sich auf deiner linken Seite zahlreiche kleinere Seen befinden, welche die Landschaft prägen.

Diese Kombination bietet einen visuell ansprechenden Kontrast, der deinen Ausflug optisch bereichert.

Auf der Höhe von Donaustetten vereint sich der Nebenstrom Rot mit der Donau und die Reise geht weiter in Richtung Nordosten.

Nachdem du die Ortschaft Gögglingen am rechten Ufer hinter dir gelassen hast, wird die Donau vom Landschaftsschutzgebiet Gronne und dem Lichternsee flankiert.

Dementsprechend paddelst du direkt zwischen diesen beiden Naturschauplätzen hindurch. Auf beiden Seiten befinden sich nach einem schmalen Landstreifen Weiher, die mit ihren leicht bewaldeten Ufern ein sehenswertes Naturpanorama bieten.

Dann ist der Weg nach Ulm schon fast geschafft. Während du auf der Donau weiterpaddelst, bewegst du dich an der Ländergrenze zwischen Baden-Württemberg und Bayern entlang, die ebenfalls dicht bewaldet ist.

Kurz darauf erreichst du die Illerspitze, wo der gleichnamige Fluss in der Donau mündet. An dieser Position befindest du dich bereits in den Außenbezirken von Ulm.

Von hier aus kannst du den mittelalterlichen Stadtkern der Stadt von der Donau aus bestaunen und die historische Architektur auf dich wirken lassen.

So verwandelst du deine SUP-Tour durch die Natur in eine Fahrt mit kulturellem Esprit. Ein geeigneter Ausstiegspunkt befindet sich am Südostufer der Donau in Ulm, bei der SUP Station Ulm an der Straße Jahnufer.

Die besten SUP Stationen an der Donau

#1 sup station ulm.

Die SUP Station Ulm liegt nahe der Stadtmitte, direkt am Ufer der Donau. Im Verleih kann die Station mit zwei Großmodellen glänzen.

So kann das SUP Starship Family vier bis sechs Personen tragen, während das Modell Starship Team ganze 10 Paddler mit aufs Wasser nehmen kann. Falls du jedoch allein oder nur mit einer Begleitung unterwegs bist, nützen dir beide Boards nicht viel.

Aus dem Kursangebot der Station kannst du aber auch allein Nutzen ziehen. Für Einsteiger und Interessierte eignet sich die Schnupper-Tour, welche dich über die kleine Donau führt.

Die Tour dauert eine Stunde und führt dich in die zentralen Grundlagen des Stand Up Paddlings ein.

Der Kurs für Fortgeschrittene dauert hingegen 90 Minuten und vermittelt die richtige Paddeltechnik, das effiziente Steuern des Boards sowie Sicherheitsübungen.

Das Angebot geführter Touren rundet die Möglichkeiten ab und bietet dir einen geeigneten Startpunkt, um die Umgebung rund um Ulm mit dem SUP zu erkunden. Beispielsweise führen Touren von der Station aus nach Thalfingen, Leipheim und Elchingen.

#2 Flotus in Wien

Die nächste SUP Station in unserer Auswahl befindet sich in Wien auf der Donaupark-Insel.

Das heißt, die Station bietet an sich bereits einen direkten Zugang zur Alten Donau, was für einen schnellen Start nach dem Ausleihen eines Boards sorgt.

Die Preise zum Ausleihen von SUP-Boards sind nach dem jeweiligen Modell gestaffelt. Ein gewöhnliches Board kannst du dir für 14 Euro pro Stunde ausleihen.

Alternativ gibt es auch Gruppen-SUPs, die bis zu zwei oder vier Personen tragen können und dich stündlich 28 Euro kosten.

Ein Schwerpunkt von Flotus liegt im Bereich Yoga-SUP. Entsprechende Kurse finden an festgelegten Terminen statt und kosten einem Teilnehmer 34 Euro.

SUP 11-City Tour NON-Stop Schedule Friday: 7:00 pm registration + skippers meeting + opening dinner Saturday: Starts between 7:00 am – 12:00 pm according the expected total paddle time of the athlete. Sunday: Finish between 12:00 am – 19:00 pm All athletes can be followed at our ‘Live’ page with their tracker!

Tuesday = Registration Day 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm Registration 5 day event 5.00 pm Official opening SUP11 City Tour 5:15 pm Start of the Prologue, represent your own country! 6:30 pm Opening dinner

Skippers meeting The ‘skippers meeting’ will take place every day at 8:00 am. Athletes receive crucial information about the course to paddle of that day.

RACE SCHEDULE

Ever day paddlers will need to pick up their GPS tracking device. Without a GPS tracking system, you are not allowed to start. GPS is for tracking and safety. People with an internet connection can follow the athletes LIVE. Losing or getting your GPS wet will cost you 200 euro!!

Just-a-Driver Tours  offer the most cost-effective way to see the Black Forest and are therefore our most popular tours. Our  Just-a-Driver Tours  are designed for those who prefer to explore the Black Forest with the convenience of a driver and a personalized itinerary. We provide a car and driver and an itinerary. Lean back and relax!

How does it work?

You may know exactly what you want to see – great! But you do not need to figure out anything in advance (where to go and what to see and how to get there) – we can take care of it for you.

The driver will stop, drop you off, pick you up again, at specific way points along your tour according to your personalized itinerary.

Good to know: The driver is NOT a tour guide. He can communicate in basic english, but will not be able to answer tour-related questions (if you prefer to have a guide come along, then have a look at our  Guided Tours ).

Prior to your tour you receive a detailed information package from us that details everything about your tour – what is at each stop, and all points of interest along the way. So you will be well-prepared in advance and you won’t miss anything

Be aware of scams. Driver guides and transport services of any kind are required by law in Germany to have a commercial passenger transportation license and insurance coverage for cars and passengers. I guess I was lucky to have Simone to drive us on our Book-a-driver tour. Booked during the Nov wet season on 29th Nov. Although we didn't pay more to have a 'guide', she was more like a guide than just a driver. When she arrives, she warned us about the bad wet weather and asked whether we want to postpone the trip. But we decided to go along and luckily for us, the weather cleared up a bit. Prior to the trip, I made a request to have stops along the way to Triberg to take pictures in the beautiful Black Forrest and she didn't disappoint us and even detour to a remote castle for us to view the scenary. Needless to say, we came back late by 30 mins but she didn't complain nor ask for extra charges and even volunteer to drive us to the town Christmas Market. Overall, nice experience with Simone.

Went looking for a stand up paddle board to take in the surf on Kiawah. After checking other shops and finding no boards at all I was referred to Carolina SUP Safaris. I met Jon who took a ton of time walking me through the selection of boards they had in stock, explaining the benefits and trade offs of each board. I left with a Bishop Luna. I'm having a blast learning the balance and getting into waves super early! I'd like to thank Jon for his time and advice. Our 9am dolphin safari was such a blast! Absolute must do while visiting Charleston. We ended up being the only 2 on the tour which was very cool. Although we didn’t get to see any dolphins, we got an awesome work out paddling against the wind and really enjoyed our time with Powers, our tour guide! He was very patient, encouraging, and knowledgeable, teaching us so much about local wildlife! He also gave us awesome suggestions of places to visit while we’re here. Thank you so much for such a memorable experience!!

We had a really great time at SUP Safaris! Our guide, Eric, was fantastic and very accommodating. We were in town for only a couple days and the weather was touch-and-go. We were scheduled for a 9am dolphin safari, and it was postponed due to storms. We were able to go out about an hour later and it worked out great. Eric really wanted to make sure we had a great experience while still being safe.

Had a GREAT time paddling today. Such a kind and respectful place. If you are in this area and looking for a SUP experience you will not go wrong by choosing SUP Safaris. The guided tour was cool. The guide was very helpful. I've paddled for years but others in the group was there first time and all of us had a great experience. You won't regret it whether you are more experienced like me or a first timer.

SUP Safari was more like Dolphin Safari! I think we saw six during our excursion. While not an expert SUPer, our guide, Powers, reminded us of the basics before we set out. He was friendly and informative about the wildlife and geography and ecosystem of the Folly river—as well as an expert dolphin spotter! Highly recommend booking a tour. Next time, we’ll try SUPPing at sunset.

I went on a whim to Charleston by myself for a mini-vacation. I tried to pick different activities that would allow me to see this amazing city in different ways. I had done SUP once before but never really had any formal instruction. The tour ended with the most vibrant sunset I have ever seen. If anyone is wavering about whether or not to do this tour, book it now- you will not regret it.

Had a great time at Charleston SUP Safaris! The tour team was excited about their job and that really set the tone for the entire experience. They also gave excellent instructions beforehand, which made the process SO much easier for those of us who were beginners. Lot of fun altogether, and a great workout heading upstream. We went paddle boarding at sunset with Powers this past weekend and it was an amazing experience! We learned a ton of fun facts about dolphins and oysters and got to know each other a long the way! The weather was absolutely perfect and I would totally recommend Powers and the rest of the SUP Safari crew to friends and family!

My friend and I took the SUP Safari tour Saturday of MDW 2018, and what an experience! Both Al and Devon, the guides, were incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and funny. We lucked out with the weather, and we even saw a dolphin! Highly recommend this company, would definitely use their services again.

The Staff at SUP Safaris was great. I did SUP once before, but these guys showed me the right way to do it. The group was fun! The sunset on the water was magical. The water was warm, so even if you fell in, it just felt great! I was surprised how easy this excursion was. I would do it again in a heart beat.

Amazing time!!! This was my first time paddle boarding. They make it super easy to make a reservation for a big group. Our guide, Devon, was wonderful! Super knowledgeable and a great teacher. We got to see a beautiful sunset and tons of dolphins! I'd definitely recommend this for first timers!

My sister and I had a blast on our paddle board trip! John was very informative and helpful for us newbies. The paddle boards have a bungee strap to hold flip flops and life jackets for those over 18 years old. I wish I brought my GoPro or waterproof camera!

We had a great Easter Sunday morning with the team from Charleston SUP safari. Although it was quite windy they still agreed to take us on an abbreviated tour. We look forward to going back for another tour this spring.

What is SUP Touring?

What is sup touring.

SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) touring is simply exploring a waterway or coastline with a stand up paddle board.

Who can go sup touring?

Paddlers of all ability levels can SUP tour. Beginner to advanced paddlers can sup tour. However it’s important to match your ability level to the water conditions you want to tour.

You can tour solo or with a group. You can also hire an outfitter to take you on guided tour.

How long does sup touring take?

SUP touring can be a short one hour ride or a long multi-day expedition. SUP touring has nothing to do with the time you spend on the water.

Where can I go sup touring?

You can tour any waterway. Lakes, rivers, sea, estuary, ocean bays, canals. Any coastline or waterway you can imagine can be explored.

What is a touring paddle board?

A touring paddle board is designed for paddling longer distances (2+ miles). These boards are longer then all-around paddle boards and tend to have a more steam-lined profile. Thus they glide easier and move farther with each stroke.

Most touring boards will have a large deck and extra tie-downs for storing gear. And a good touring board will have plenty of float to carry that extra gear.

Touring paddle boards work fine for typical all-around paddling. Many people prefer a touring paddle board because they are faster than all-arounder paddle board.

Big, tall or heavy riders will feel more comfortable paddling a touring paddle board

Do I need a touring paddle board?

No. Any all-around paddle board will work fine for sup touring. If you ever get serious about paddling long distance tours you will want to consider a touring paddle board. But you don’t need one.

What equipment do I need to begin?

• A paddleboard and paddle of course
• Board leash (mandatory any time you paddle)
• Cell phone in waterproof bag
• Map or Google Earth print out and a compass
• Plenty of water
• Extra clothes
• PFD personal flotation device
• Cash or credit card

Do I have to go camping and sleep in a tent?

No. A sup tour can be one hour long. The most popular type of touring is the day trip. Packing light gear and spending the day exploring a coastline or waterway with your paddle board.

Printable day trip gear checklist

With an inflatable paddle board you can paddle all day and return on a bus, taxi, uber or train. You can paddle to a restaurant for lunch or dinner.
