Jennifer Batten on the sexism she faced as Michael Jackson's guitarist, and how Jeff Beck shaped her view of innovative guitar playing
The King of Pop's 10-year six-string sidekick talks playing guitar in a “man's world”, what keeps her loyal to Washburn, and the players impressing her today
Jennifer Batten established herself as a guitarist by remaining true to herself and her craft. In the words of Steve Vai, who knows a thing or two about the instrument, “the way she hammers, her technique, she’s obviously completely suited for the role of being a virtuoso guitar player.”
Rightfully so. Since her debut with Michael Jackson in 1987, and in the decades that have followed, Batten has refused to comprise her personal and musical integrity. It’s the bedrock upon which she has built her success.
This year promises a full calendar for the Oregon-based guitarist. “Michael passed over 10 years ago, and all of a sudden, almost all my foreign work, 80 percent of it, is tributes from different countries,” she says.
“I’ll be working with one based in Argentina, gigging in Spain in September, another based in France, one in the UK, and a Brazilian tribute artist I’ve toured with before is coming to the States for dates in New York, LA, and Orlando in June.
“I also have a three-week tour for my Italian agent that I’m doing as a trio, so there will be originals and covers and likely no Michael Jackson music at all in that one. In the summer I’ll be home with my cover band, Full Steam, doing local outdoor festivals.”
When you travel, you bring one guitar: your Washburn Parallaxe. What else is in the travel rig?
“I keep things fairly simple, and thank God it’s getting lighter and lighter. I’m using the BluGuitar AMP1. That’s a 3-pound, 100-watt amp that goes in my carry-on. For effects, I’m using the Line 6 HX Stomp XL and a MeloAudio MIDI Commander, one volume pedal, one expression pedal , and that’s it. That covers everything.

“I just have to have them provide a cabinet when I arrive. The HX addition for multi-effects – I’ve been working on transferring over from my old set of gear for about three years because there are a couple of sounds in my DigiTech that the Line 6 can’t reproduce.
“I was using the old set for some gigs and the new set for other gigs until I finally made the entire transfer over to the HX, which is a much more powerful and versatile unit.”
I got poached by a guy at Washburn who took me out to lunch, told me everything I wanted to hear, and then promptly f**ked off to Fender!
You have a longstanding relationship with Washburn. Before that, you were with Ibanez.
“I signed with Ibanez in 1987, when I got the Michael Jackson tour. After seven years of seven Ibanez guitars with seven bad necks, the builder told me I had bad luck with necks, and I said, ‘There’s got to be something more reliable than that.’ Since I jumped ship, the Washburn necks have been very stable.”
How did the relationship with Washburn begin?
“I got poached by a guy who took me out to lunch, told me everything I wanted to hear, and then promptly fucked off to Fender! Many parts of everything I wanted to hear never happened, but I don’t like to be flaky with jumping companies all the time, and Washburn was good.
“I did a bunch of clinics for them around the world. I got super-intrigued by the Line 6 Variax, which allowed me to trigger acoustic sounds and various other guitar brand models and tunings, but I did come back when Dee Tatum, my guy at Washburn that I’ve known for many years, said, ‘I just came back from South America and they want you back down there. What do you say?’ So I did it.”
What keeps you loyal?
“Number one, it’s comfort. The first guitar they sent me, I thought, ‘I don’t know about this,’ but once I started playing it, it was super-comfortable.
“I’m not a person that has a ton of guitars at home. I have probably six or seven, and in general I only play one. I have three very close copies of the Parallaxe. In Full Steam, the singer takes everything down a half-step, so I’ve got one of those tuned down and my main one is standard tuning.
“I want a lightweight guitar, and my main one is fairly lightweight, considering it’s got a Floyd Rose, because that adds some weight. The neck has to be comfortable and not make me struggle.
“And then the sound. I’m pretty particular about pickups, and I didn’t like the pickups they originally sent me in the Parallaxe. I ended up with the Fishman Fluence after I heard Greg Koch. He’s got the greatest tone ever, and he’s got the Fluence loaded in his Les Pauls, his Strats, and his Telecasters, and I was really impressed with them all.
“There’s no better demo; nothing you can put in writing about a pickup is going to sell it like listening to somebody using them. Another selling point with the Fluence is that they’re very low noise. Nothing is worse than going into a club with bad electricity and getting a buzz through your system all night.”
What do you use for sessions when you’re tracking from home?
Engineers tend to use a cabinet as target practice. They will usually take a Shure SM57 and put it directly in the center of the cone, which is the worst sound you could possibly get
“I use the same gear. One thing I also use in the studio a lot is the BluGuitar BluBox. That thing is pretty incredible. It has 16 different IR cabinet emulations and a virtual mic placement knob. It depends on my mood if I'm going to use that or if I'm actually going to mic a cabinet.
“When I started Full Steam, I discovered Audix microphones . I was on a gig and the engineer had an Audix i5 on my cabinet, and because we are on in-ear monitors, I really noticed a difference. I actually take that mic on the road with me.
“Engineers tend to use a cabinet as target practice. They will usually take a Shure SM57 and put it directly in the center of the cone, which is the worst sound you could possibly get.
“The older I get, the more control I want, so I take my own mic and I angle it the way I want. And oftentimes, between soundcheck and the show, I see that they've gone up and put it back in the center of the cone, and [say] ‘You bastard!’ They think it's a mistake that it's hitting the paper instead of the center.
“Most guitar players don't love to have the mic’d cabs directly in their ears, but unless you have in-ear monitors, you don't know what people are hearing out front. You’re at the mercy of the sound engineer, who, if they're good, they're probably deaf because they've been doing it for so many years!”
You can't win.
“It's a struggle, for sure. I tell people I started at the top and I'm working my way down, because when I was on the Jackson tour, we got so lazy. Everything was worked out. Everything was beautiful.
“We’d just show up and go. We only played two or three days a week, so when you had a show day, you’d go [ whines ], ‘Oh, really? I wanted to go to the Roman Colosseum today.’ Now every day off is on a plane or train or automobile.”
Were the ’80s underrated? People snicker about “hair bands”, but some really good music came out of that time. Was the era as definitive as it was dismissed?
“I think it was a vibrant era. MTV helped elevate it to another level. And it was a really supreme guitar era energized by Van Halen. Every song had a guitar solo in it, which did not necessarily happen once Nirvana hit. So I have fond memories of it.
“Although I do still wear hairspray, I don't miss the extreme spray of those days. Every era has ridiculous fashion. You know, when you're in the fashion, you go, ‘Oh, I need those parachute pants! I must have those!’ 10 or 20 years later, you go, ‘Oh my god, I can't believe I wore that.’”
Everybody understands that, especially now with the music industry really scuffling, you need to figure out unique ways to get attention for your act
You are on four tracks on Jim Peterik & World Stage's Tigress: Women Who Rock The World . Respectfully to all involved, do you cringe at “tigress” or “guitar goddesses” or similar terminology?
“I don't, because I understand marketing and the dumb common denominator of what will reach people. People need labels to latch onto. You can get all exotic and have something super-creative that loses people, or you can dumb it down and go, ‘Here's a bunch of badass women playing,’ and make it super-obvious.
“Everybody understands that, especially now with the music industry really scuffling, you need to figure out unique ways to get attention for your act. Everybody can record at home, so there are thousands of records released every year. Eye of the Tiger was Jim's biggest hit [with Survivor], so to call it Tigress is along the same theme. It’s his project and he wrote most of the record, so it’s a smart tie-in.
“I was going to say, ‘However you can get out there, power to you getting attention for your music,’ but it immediately made me think of somebody I ran across on Instagram or TikTok who’s a pretty good female guitar player. I saw a post she did the other day. She's super-beautiful, she was playing in a bra, and I thought, ‘Man, you don't need to do that. You really don't. Plus, you're going to get fans that are not there for the music, and potentially stalkers.’ I find that whole side of it just sad.”
Having come up in the era of video babes and trade show booth babes and all of that, were you ever under that kind of pressure? Did anyone say, “If you just show a little more leg and flash a little more tits…”
“Yeah, I definitely did, and it was at the highest level: Frank DiLeo, who was Michael Jackson's manager. There were two incidents.
“I was already hired and things were going well. The first time, he goes, ‘Now that you have the gig, I could probably get you a spread in Playboy .’ I was horrified! I thought, ‘What the fuck are you... I'm a guitar player!’ It wasn't pressure. It's just something coming from his perspective that he thought was a big deal, because anybody around him just wants to be famous, however it takes to get there, and I was not of that ilk.
“Another time, we were somewhere in Europe at a party, and that bastard came up to me, he looked at my chest, and he goes, ‘You need some tits. I'll buy them for you.’ I think probably every woman in the industry has run into something like that at some point because it's a man's world. Women are making a lot of headway, but overall it's still a man's world with a man's perspective.”
When something like that happens and you have a job to hold on to, how do you handle it?
“Well, it wasn't an ultimatum. Again, he thought he was doing something positive, like, ‘I'll pay for those for you.’ And I'm like, ‘Oh, hell no.’ I probably smiled and walked away. It wasn't the kind of pressure like, ‘You have to do this to keep your job.’ It was like, ‘Yeah, Frank. Noted. And no, thanks.’”
When I was with Jeff Beck, I was in a studio while he was playing CDs that were sent to him. If he didn't hear something innovative in eight or 16 bars, it went in the trash
In a previous interview, you referred to, and I'm quoting here, “jaded fucks”. What is the secret to not becoming one?
“I consider myself a jaded fuck! And I have a very short attention span, partly thanks to the iPhone and social media. 20 years ago, when I was with Jeff Beck, I was in a studio while he was playing CDs that were sent to him.
“If he didn't hear something innovative in eight or 16 bars, it went in the trash. I was amazed to watch that. But he’s a guy that really invented electric guitar and a lot of what people are doing today, and he is always looking for innovation.
“Now I find that with myself. I watch the music acts on Colbert and I'm good for eight bars. If something doesn't grab me, it's like, ‘I heard that 40 years ago. What else have you got to offer?’ That's my definition of a jaded fuck.
“But having said that, there are people that really stand out. I immediately think of Mohini Dey, who is an absolute monster, and Tal Wilkenfeld, who is a stunning player. Mateus Asato and Lari Basilio also really grabbed my ear. I have the ultimate respect for them. They all have something new and exciting to offer.”
Given the state of the music industry, and the world, how do you take care of your mental health? Do you naturally go with the flow, or is it something you've had to work on?
“When lockdown came, I joined millions of other people that were not doing well at all. It was super-depressing. I had all these tours booked that were obviously canceled. I thought I was going to lose my house. My mental health was not good at the beginning of the pandemic, and it's been a little up and down since, depending on what's going on.
“I think so many people are so connected with their work, especially when it's art, like playing music, that when you're not allowed to do it, your entire identity goes to hell. It becomes, ‘Why am I on Earth? What is going on here?’
“A lot of people have gone through a serious reset, and I did as well. Ultimately, I don't take things as seriously as I did at one time. If I can make a living playing music, as long as it’s not a shit gig that I hate, I think I’m doing pretty well. When you’re young, you think you want to be rich and famous like Madonna or whoever your heroes are, and it's extremely unlikely to happen.
“The goal should be being happy with the day-to-day and making progress as a musician. That’s where real satisfaction happens. I have been there many times along the path and I'm really there now. It's about discovery, progress, and community. It's about being able to play and express yourself and connect with people. That's the best you can get.”

Jennifer Batten Returns to Sedona 2022
This event has already finished but is here for your information
The buzz on Jennifer Batten rose from the guitar underground, and the guitar magazines promptly began chronicling her savvy musicianship and highly original approach to the electric guitar in print.
At one point Batten was in 6 different bands, playing everything from straight ahead rock, to metal, fusion, and funk. A major turning point came when she was selected from over one hundred guitarists to play in Michael Jackson's highly skilled band which toured the world for one and a half years playing for over four and a half million people. Jennifer wasted no time after the" Bad" Tour's grand finale, diving into work on her own album with renown producer (and Stevie Wonder guitarist) Michael Sembello. The stunning results can be heard on "Above, Below, and Beyond", the title appropriately describing the interesting diversity within. With this debut release, the world at large learned what all the excitement was about.
Shortly after the record's release in the spring of '92, she was asked again to join Michael Jackson for his upcoming "Dangerous Tour". In January '93, she joined Jackson to partake in Superbowl XXVII's half time entertainment which aired to one and half billion people in 80 nations. It was the largest audience in television history.
She completed her second solo record "Jennifer Batten's Tribal Rage~Momentum," just before she was again asked to join Michael Jackson for his 2 year world tour supporting his double album "HIStory" in 1997.
Jennifer's Tribal Rage project took a much different direction than her first record and is heavily influenced by world music. It is a hybrid of rock and very exotic sounds, including African percussion, Australian didgeridoo, Caribbean steel drums and Scottish bag pipes.
In the spring of 98 Jeff Beck asked Jennifer to join his band. They joined forces for 3 years on the CD's "Who Else", and "You Had It Coming" which were both supported by world tours.
Other guest appearances include CD's with Carmine Appice, Michael Sembello, Carl Anderson, Carina Alfie and several rock tributes.
Jennifer has authored two music books and has just released her third solo CD/DVD entitled "Whatever". With this 3rd effort, she's ventured into electronica, vocal samples, and film. She's supporting this release with a multimedia one woman show, playing guitar in synch with films projected onto a giant screen. The companion DVD includes over 90 min of art films, previously unreleased music videos, interviews, commentary, and an innovative guitar lesson.

For 10 electrifying years, Jennifer Batten performed with Michael Jackson all over the world. Her Guitar genius won her the coveted job of playing alongside one of the world’s most popular musical artists, and together they mesmerized the world at Superbowl XXVII’s halftime show which aired to one and a half billion people in 80 nations. It was at that time the largest audience in television history.
In 1998, after touring with Jackson, Jennifer was asked to join international recording artist Jeff Beck’s band. She recorded two CDs with him and supported those recordings with world tours. Batten’s debut CD was produced by former Stevie Wonder guitarist Michael Sembello.
In 2011, Batten did a guitar residency for the Cirque Du Soleil show “Zumanity” in Las Vegas. Since that time, she has continued to perform in many musical formats worldwide. She has a one-woman multi-media show as well as a full band comprised of some of Portland’s top musicians and vocalists. Jennifer has also authored two music books and has released three solo CDs venturing from world beat and rock n roll to electronica.
Batten currently resides in Oregon, and when she is at home, she and her band “Full Steam” play for summer concerts, festivals and special events throughout the Pacific Northwest.
The City of Tigard Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to see “Jennifer Batten and Full Steam” in action on August 3 rd in Cook Park from 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM. Bring a picnic, the kids, your air guitars, and your dancing shoes! This will be a free concert and is perfect for the whole family. Full Steam’s music spans the 80s and 90s and features high-energy pop dance hits that everyone will recognize.

How did bennifer 2.0 turn into jennifer lopez and ben affleck’s will-they-won’t-they split saga.

It’s the greatest love story over-told — and it’s already gone cold.
But don’t cry for Jennifer Lopez, or Ben Affleck either, even though they’re reportedly living apart after their much-ballyhooed 2021 reunion and two splashy weddings in 2022.
Not to mention J. Lo’s over-the-top album, hour-long musical film that she self-financed for $20 million, and the accompanying documentary about her great love for Ben , all released just a few months ago.
Lopez insiders told The Post the two are “taking time apart,” while People magazine this week quoted a source saying the marriage “is not in the best place at the moment.”
Bennifer 2.0 may be on life support, but sources who know them say there’s no villain or victim here — just two big clashing egos who may not even mind the headlines inferring the end is nigh.
“They have this amazing Donald Trump quality, the both of them, of having no shame,” a Hollywood insider who worked with Lopez told The Post. “I’d be hiding under the carpet at the point but they’re both out and about — separately — smiling and grinning and keeping us guessing. They could clear this up with one simple statement but they don’t. Don’t feel sorry for them. She loves it, and what people don’t realize is, Ben loves it more.”
But other sources close to Lopez says she doesn’t love it and is genuinely upset — especially about being being cast as a villain who wants the spotlight at any cost, while Affleck is portrayed as publicity-shy and overwhelmed by the media scrutiny that comes with marrying a diva.
In fact, one industry insider says, Affleck has failed to defend his wife in the wake of all on the hype surrounding Lopez’s musical film about her lifelong search for love, “ This is Me Now … A Love Story ,” its accompanying album “This is Me … Now,” and the documentary “ The Greatest Love Story Never Told .”
The insider points out that Affleck’s company Artists Equity , which he co-founded and runs with longtime collaborator Matt Damon, produced and financed “The Greatest Love Story Never Told.”
“Affleck was across every element of production — including editing,” the industry insider said of the film, as well as the negotiations to sell it to Amazon. “As soon as the documentary came out, that’s when the online hatred and negativity towards Jennifer went rampant.”
“She has been torn apart. She’s been blamed for exposing their private life. People have called her a narcissist and said how embarrassing it is for Ben; but at no point did he come to his wife’s defense and say, ‘Actually, it was my idea and my company that made this documentary.'”
Lopez sharply shut down an interviewer who asked her about the Affleck split rumors during the Mexico junket for “Atlas” last week, saying “You should know better than that.”
People started noticing earlier this month that the couple — who notoriously pulled the plug on their 2003 wedding three days beforehand — had not been spotted in public together since March 30.
Affleck was then seen coming and going from a new rental in Brentwood that’s near the home of his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, and their three kids, while Lopez remained solo at their $60 million Beverly Hills mansion.
The duo spent two years looking for the home, which J. Lo showed off to her 253 million Instagram followers to great fanfare last fall.
The actor, currently filming the sequel to his 2016 film, “The Accountant,” has been seen at least once without his wedding band on.
Garner, the faithful ex-wife who has been there to pick up the pieces after Affleck’s past fall-downs, even driving him to rehab after a 2018 intervention, was spotted visiting his new digs.
“Ben is a deeply damaged man who attracts women who want to fix him, and he gives them just enough hope to think that it will be possible,” one insider told The Post. “Spoiler alert: It isn’t. No one tried harder or longer than Garner. J. Lo just learned the same lesson more quickly.”
Sources close to Affleck and Lopez will say only that the couple are taking time apart, and no one has heard the word “divorce” mentioned yet.
They also say that Affleck’s wedding band has been off and on because he’s been filming.
Meanwhile, Lopez went solo to the May 6 Met Gala where she wore a shimmering, mermaid-style Schiaparelli Haute Couture dress and was dripping in more than 100 carats of Tiffany & Co. diamonds.
Sources add that Affleck’s absence at Lopez’s recent red carpet appearances in LA and Mexico to promote her new Netflix film, “Atlas,” was expected because filming on “The Accountant” has been so intense that he was also, apparently, unable to attend his daughter Violet’s high school graduation this month.
But Lopez insiders say Affleck really should have been at her side as she hosted the Met Gala.
“It’s a respect thing,” a source who knows Lopez well told The Post. “There’s no excuse for not being there unless you’re in jail or you’re trying to blow up your life.”
In March, after her new album flopped — dropping off the Billboard 200 chart a week after it entered at No. 38, her worst-ever debut — Lopez canceled several concerts of her upcoming “This Is Me…Now.” tour before re-branding it as a greatest hits tour.
Venue-ticket prices for the tour are priced as low as $49 at some stops and many seats remain, according to the Ticketmaster website.
“It feels like a disaster,” a veteran concert promoter told The Post.
But others say Lopez can handle her career; it’s her choice of men that’s the problem.
Affleck is her fourth husband.
Lopez was previously married to Cuban waiter Ojani Noa (1997-1998), backup dancer Cris Judd (2001-2003) and Latin music superstar Marc Anthony (2004-2014), with whom she has 16-year-old twins, Emme and Max.
She was engaged to baseball star Alex Rodriguez before they split in 2021 and she reunited with Affleck.
“If there was a way to divorce on grounds of temporary insanity, he would,” an Affleck source previously told Page Six. “He feels like the last two years was just a fever dream, and he’s come to his senses now and understands there is just no way this is going to work.”
But Affleck will tax any woman he’s with, some say.
“His PR team very cleverly paints Ben as this quality director and actor who hates being a star,” Rob Shuter, who hosts the “Naughty but Nice” podcast and who was Lopez’s publicist during her first engagement to Affleck, told The Post. “Bulls–t, Ben loves being a star. He just doesn’t want to be the lesser star.”
“Jennifer is strong but Ben is stronger,” said a Hollywood insider who has worked with both Lopez and Affleck. “He’s very talented but he’s not easy. The only reason he doesn’t like being in her spotlight it’s because it’s her spotlight and not his. Their [reunion] story sounded beautiful in theory, but sometimes you just can’t go back in time.”
The source shot down online speculation that Lopez and Affleck could be playing at being the 2024 version of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton to gin up interest in J. Lo’s new film and concert tour.
“I doubt that,” she said. “But if it is a ruse it’s unforgivable, especially with all their children involved. In fact I don’t know why they’re not handling this better given all their kids and what they’ve been through.”
Another source who has worked with Lopez also insisted that she’s not the villain here: “Everyone is going to think that this is all Jennifer — it’s not. She was in love, she adores Ben, that is not a crime. And it takes two to tango in any situation.”

Dolly Parton Plans Unique Tour After Retiring From The Road
I n a surprise move, Dolly Parton has announced a new tour after previously retiring from touring in 2022. But this tour will be different. Keep reading to find out how.
Still Creating, Still Sharing
Dolly Parton made the decision to retire from touring in 2022, It marked the end of an era in her legendary career, which has spanned decades and included many iconic tours. Her last tour was the Pure & Simple Tour in 2016
But the country legend is still dedicated to creating and sharing her music with her fans. She delighted fans last year with the release of her first rock album. She collaborated with some of rock’s greatest names on Rockstar, including several members of the Beatles and her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus.
With rumors swirling about a new family album , it’s clear that Parton has no shortage of creativity or projects in the works.
Dolly Parton Plans A New Kind Of Tour
Dolly Parton retired from touring because she didn’t want to be away from her husband of 57 years, Carl Dean. Her husband, 81, has faced several health problems in the last few years and she wants to be close by to nurse him back to health. So, there is a new Dolly Parton tour happening, the singer won’t appear in person.
Instead of featuring the legendary country star herself, the tour will be a “multimedia symphonic storytelling experience.” According to Variety , the tour combines Parton’s music with orchestral arrangements and visual elements. The tour is set to launch in March 2025 with the Nashville symphony.
This new tour concept allows her to do just that in a way that doesn’t require the rigors of traveling from city to city. She will feature on a screen at the venue instead of in person.
"‘Threads: My Songs in Symphony' is like a journey through the heartstrings of my life. I hope we can take it far and wide to symphony orchestras everywhere,” the singer said in a statement.
While Parton may not be touring in the classical sense, she’s clearly still committed to bringing her music to her fans in new and innovative ways. With the multimedia symphonic tour on the horizon and other projects in development, it’s an exciting time to be a Dolly Parton fan. And who knows? Maybe we’ll even see her on stage for the occasional special show.
What do you think of her unique tour plan? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Jennifer Lopez appears in good spirits at dance rehearsal for tour amid Ben Affleck split rumors

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.
Jennifer Lopez was all smiles as she was seen entering a dance studio in Los Angeles Friday amid rumors that she and Ben Affleck are headed toward divorce .
The superstar flashed a beaming grin as she rocked wide-legged white sweats, a cream off-the-shoulder top and matching sneakers. She looked ready to dance all day with her hair pulled up into a high bun.
Lopez, 54, wore a similar outfit earlier this week when she was spotted house hunting — which an insider claimed had nothing to do with the breakup chatter.
Instead, they insisted she was on the hunt for an investment property.
Page Six exclusively learned, however, earlier this week that Affleck, 51, is in the midst of shopping for homes in the Los Angeles area.
TMZ also reported he has been residing in Brentwood, Calif., while he and Lopez work out their issues.
The outlet obtained snapshots of the star driving his sports car through the vibrant neighborhood with his wedding band still on.
Lopez also appeared to wear a ring on her left ring finger while heading into her dance studio Friday, although it is unclear if it is her matrimonial bling.
While there has been no confirmation of trouble in paradise from either party, the “On The Floor” hitmaker seemingly alluded to marital problems when she “liked” an Instagram post about a partner with unhealthy qualities, such as lack of respect and integrity.
An insider also claimed to Us Weekly Thursday that the pair started having serious issues “a few months ago” as Lopez began preparing for her upcoming tour.
“Jen is very focused on work,” the source explained. “They are on two completely different pages most of the time.”
Lopez’s rebranded tour, “This Is Me…Live | The Greatest Hits,” which has reportedly struggled with ticket sales , is set to kick off in June.

Affleck has hinted in the past that it takes compromise on both ends to make their relationship work.
“When Jen and I broke up before, the catalyst for that was the amount of scrutiny around our private life,” the “Armageddon” star explained in Lopez’s “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” documentary film, which debuted in February.
“I had a very firm sense of boundaries, initially, around the press.”
Affleck added that when they found love again in 2021 , he told Lopez from the start that he didn’t want their relationship to be on social media or in the spotlight.
“And then I sort of realized it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of like you’re gonna marry a boat captain and [say] like, ‘Well, I don’t like the water,'” he reflected.
“We’re just two people with different approaches, trying to learn to compromise.”
The famous duo, dubbed “Bennifer,” was engaged the first time around in 2002 but postponed their wedding a year later before ultimately breaking up in January 2004.
They rekindled things shortly after Lopez’s 2021 split from her former fiancé Alex Rodriguez .
Affleck and the “Shades of Blue” alum walked down the aisle in Las Vegas in July 2022 and threw a formal celebration at his Georgia estate the following August.
“ We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind,” the “Can’t Get Enough” singer gushed in a newsletter sent to fans following the Vegas ceremony. “And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient.”

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.
Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.
Belfry and Neighbouring Churches
Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.
To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.
Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral
The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.
Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.
Tsaritsa's Chambers
The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.
At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.
Palace of Tsar Alexis
The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

Gagarin cup (khl) finals: atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.
Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final. While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut. Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so. But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd.
This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime. Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30). Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date. Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles: Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30. In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans: Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.
For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship. The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize. The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it. Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that.
The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth. There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat. Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role.
I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games. They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL. They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.
- Atlant @ Ufa, Friday Apr 8 (3:00 PM CET/10:00 PM EST)
- Atlant @ Ufa, Sunday Apr 10 (1:00 PM CET/8:00 AM EST)
- Ufa @ Atlant, Tuesday Apr 12 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
- Ufa @ Atlant, Thursday Apr 14 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
Games 5-7 are as yet unscheduled, but every second day is the KHL standard, so expect Game 5 to be on Saturday, like an early start.

Hands up if you’re ready to be dazzled! From a ceremony structure designed to float on water to a jaw-dropping reception room with flowers blooming from every service, we’re swooning over every bit of this wedding. If you can believe it, that’s just the beginning. Julia Kaptelova artfully shot every detail, like the ballet performance guests were treated to and snow falling from the ceiling for the first dance! Prepare to be amazed and take a visit to the full gallery .
From About You Decor … Our design is a symbol of dawn and a distant endless horizon. Ahead is a long, happy life without any borders. An international couple, Pavel and Cherry, met in London and have been walking together for many years.
From the Bride, Cherry… My husband and I we decided to have our summer wedding in Moscow because the city is where his roots are. As we knew we were going to have the other wedding ceremony in China, we wanted our Moscow one to be very personal and intimate. We’ve known each other since we were fourteen, together with many of our friends whom we’ve also known for a decade.
I didn’t want to walk down the aisle twice so the plausibility of my request quickly came into discussion. The open pontoon stage was constructed in order to facilitate the bridal entrance on water, although there were concerns about safety as the last thing we wanted was probably a drowned bride before she could get on stage, picture that! I have to say on that day it wasn’t easy to get on the pontoon stage from the boat, in my long gown and high heels. Luckily my bridesmaids still noticed even though they stood the furthest from me on the stage, and helped me out without prior rehearsal. My girls could just tell whenever I needed a hand or maybe they were just so used to my clumsiness. Who knows 😂
We all love our photographer Julia! She’s so talented and her style is so unique. Our beloved host Alex is exceptional who made everyone laugh and cry. It was truly a blessing to have so many kind and beautiful souls on our big day. Thank you all!

I’m still not convinced this Moscow wedding, captured to perfection by Sonya Khegay , isn’t actually an inspiration session—it’s just that breathtaking. From the beautiful Bride’s gorgeous lace wedding dress and flawless hair and makeup to the pretty pastel color palette and stunning ceremony and reception spaces, this wedding is almost too good to be true. Do yourself a favor and see it all in The Vault now!
From Sonya Khegay … It was the last day of April and still very cold in the morning. The weather forecast wasn’t pleasing and no one expected that the sun would come out, but miracles happen and light rain gave way to the warm rays.
I love how all the details went together, you could feel the harmony in everything throughout the entire wedding day from the morning until the fireworks.
A gentle look of the bride, elegant but so airy and unique decor, the fresh and light atmosphere of early spring and, of course, true happiness in the eyes. My heart becomes so warm from these memories, it is always a pleasure to see the birth of a new family of two loving hearts.

You really can’t go wrong with simple: a beautiful Bride , perfectly pretty petals , loved ones all around. But add in an amazing firework show to cap off the night and simple just became downright extraordinary. Captured by Lena Elisseva , with assistance by Katya Butenko , this rustic Russian celebration is simply fantastic. See it all in the Vault right here !
From Lena Eliseeva Photo … This cozy and warm summer wedding of gorgeous Natalia and Anton was in the middle of June. The young couple decided to organize their wedding themselves, and the day was very personal and touching. I am absolutely in love with rustic outdoor weddings, and this one is my favourite because of the free and easy atmosphere.
All the decor excluding the bride’s bouquet was made by a team of ten friends of the bride and groom. And it was charming – a light and beautiful arch, eco-style polygraphy and succulents, candy-bar with caramel apples and berries – sweet joys of summer.
At the end of ceremony the guests tossed up white handkerchiefs embroidered by Natalia’s own hands.
The most touching moment was the happy eyes of the groom’s grandmother, the most estimable person on the wedding. And the fireworks were a bright end to that beautiful day.

These photos from Lena Kozhina are so stunningly beautiful – as in you can’t help but stop and stare – it’s hard to believe it’s real life. But these pics are proof of this gorgeous Bride and her handsome Groom’s celebration at Moscow’s Fox Lodge , surrounded by vibrant colors and breathtaking blooms . Oh, and the idea of prepping for your Big Day outside in the sun ? Brilliant. See more bright ideas right here !
From Lena Kozhina … When we met with the couple for the first time, we immediately paid attention to Dima’s behavior towards Julia. There was a feeling of tenderness and awe, and we immediately wanted to recreate this atmosphere of love, care and warmth on their Big Day.
Later, when we had chosen a green meadow and an uncovered pavilion overlooking a lake as the project site, it only highlighted a light summer mood with colorful florals and a great number of natural woods. The name of the site is Fox Lodge and peach-orange color, as one of the Bride’s favorites, set the tone for the whole design – from the invitations, in which we used images of fox cubs to elements of serving guest tables and other decorative elements with the corresponding bright accents.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)
<< Previous page
Pages: 379-406
In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
