Offers travel medicine advice, vaccinations and anti-malarial prescriptions to protect your health during resort holidays and international trips.

Application Process

Appointments should be made at least 6 - 8 weeks prior to departure - call to book an appointment. Cancelling/rescheduling requires 24 hour notice.

Documents Required

Have your Saskatchewan Health & Services Number and your credit card information ready when calling to book an appointment.

Determined by the length of appointment required (based on destination, medical risk factors, length of trip, number of vaccines recommended and whether a prescription for malaria is needed). Cost also depends on the price of individual vaccines or prescriptions recommended.

Travel vaccinations

Measles cases are increasing worldwide.

Before travelling, check that you and your family have received the recommended measles vaccinations.

Do not travel if you have symptoms of measles or have been in contact with someone with measles.

If you develop symptoms of measles after your return to Canada, call a health care provider right away.

Global Measles Notice

When travelling outside Canada, you may be at risk for a number of vaccine preventable illnesses.

You should consult a health care provider or visit a travel health clinic preferably six weeks before you travel. This is an opportunity to:

• review your immunization history
• make sure your provincial/territorial vaccination schedule is up-to-date
• discuss any trip-related health concerns you may have
• assess your needs based on where you plan to travel and what you plan to do

You may need additional vaccinations depending on your age, planned travel activities and local conditions. Preventing disease through vaccination is a lifelong process.

Yellow fever vaccination.

Some countries require proof that you have received a yellow fever vaccination before allowing you to enter the country. Consult an embassy or consulate of your destination country in Canada for up-to-date information on its entry and exit requirements before you travel abroad.

Other countries may require you to have been vaccinated for yellow fever if you have passed through an area where yellow fever may occur .

Proof of vaccination must be documented on an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis . You must carry the original certificate with you.

In Canada, the vaccination is only given at designated yellow fever vaccination centres .

Here's what you need to know about getting the COVID-19 vaccine in the Saskatoon area

SASKATOON -- The eligibility for first-dose immunization in Saskatchewan is 12 and older.

Anyone over the age of 12 is also eligible to receive their second COVID-19 vaccine dose 28 days after their first jab.

As off August 8, 2021, the Saskatchewan Health Authority is no longer offering drive-thru or booked mass vaccination clinics.

Vaccination is available at participating pharmacies and pop-up clinics in targeted communities

For communities without access to a pharmacy, booked appointments may be available through the online booking system.

The vaccine is free.

Some places require you to carry an International Certificate of Vaccination to prove that you have been vaccinated against diseases prevalent in the territory.

Getting Your COVID-19 Vaccination

Starting April 8 ,  2024, certain Saskatchewan residents can receive one additional dose of COVID-19 XBB.1.5 vaccine as long as it has been more than six months since their last COVID-19 XBB.1.5 dose or COVID-19 infection (whichever interval is longer).

The COVID-19 vaccine targeting the XBB 1.5 Omicron subvariant induces a stronger and more robust immune response to the current circulating variants compared to the original and bivalent mRNA COVID-19 vaccines.

In Saskatchewan, COVID-19 vaccination is free and available through:

• Participating pharmacies  (most COVID-19 vaccine types)
• Pop-up clinics in targeted communities
• For communities without access to a nearby pharmacy, booked appointments may be available through the online booking system .

Pharmacists cannot provide immunizations to children less than five years of age. Children less than five years old will receive their immunizations via an SHA or partnering health agency provider.

Designated vaccines, including Novavax, are available by SHA appointment only by calling 1-833-727-5829. Pharmacies may not have all approved vaccines available to them.

All of the vaccines being administered are safe and effective. All of them are important to help protect the public from severe illness and death from COVID-19.

1. Check Your Eligibility

• Adults 65 years of age and older.
• Individuals six months of age and older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised with medical conditions.
• Adults 18 to 64 years old residing in long-term care facilities, personal care homes, and congregate living settings (i.e. assisted living settings) that have residents 65+ years.

Everyone in Saskatchewan six months and older who is not yet immunized with COVID-19 XBB.1.5 vaccine remains eligible for the vaccine until June 30, 2024. As of July 1, 2024, only moderately to severely immunocompromised children who are six months to four years old may start an age appropriate XBB.1.5 dose/series.

For children age six months to four years

Children who have not had a COVID-19 vaccine are eligible to receive two or three doses - depending on the vaccine - given four to eight weeks apart. Moderately to severely immunosuppressed individuals can receive an additional dose.

Children who have had two or more doses are eligible to receive one dose. It is recommended to wait at least six months after the last dose to get another dose.

As of July 1, 2024 children six months to four years old who are moderately to severely immunosuppressed will remain eligible to receive an age appropriate XBB.1.5 dose/series.

You can request the Novavax vaccine if you are unable or unwilling to get a COVID-19 mRNA XBB.1.5 vaccine and you are 12 years of age and older. (AstraZeneca and Janssen are no longer available). Designated vaccines, including Novavax, are only available by SHA appointment - by calling 1-833-727-5829. Pharmacies may not have all approved vaccines available to them.

The online tool is simple, fast and easy to use. It takes just a few minutes to book your appointment for your primary vaccination series and any additional dose. The system will guide you through a few simple questions, gathering consent, choice of clinic and booking date and time.

5. What to Expect at the Vaccine Clinic

Only people who are eligible will get their vaccine dose. You will not receive a vaccine if you are not yet eligible .

A parent/legal guardian must be present to provide verbal, informed consent for a minor. If the parent chooses an adult designate (e.g. grandparent, aunt) to accompany the child for a vaccine, a  consent form  signed by the parent/guardian must be presented.

Children at least 13 years of age up to and including 17 years of age, who are able to understand the benefits and possible reactions for each vaccine and the risks of not getting immunized, can legally consent to or refuse immunizations in Saskatchewan by providing mature minor informed consent to a healthcare provider.

Arrive prepared

Get ready for your appointment:

• If you do not have photo ID you may provide two pieces of alternate identification such as a provincial health card, birth certificate, social insurance card, naturalization certificate, marriage certificate, etc.
• Children are only required to provide a provincial health card, but parents/caregivers may be required to show photo ID.
• Bring your health card and cell phone (if you have one).
• Wear a short-sleeved shirt.
• Practise good hand hygiene when you enter and exit the facility. Follow any other public health measures required at the facility.
• Arrive five minutes early to your appointment and expect to stay 15 minutes after your vaccine. You can bring one person with you for support.

SHA doubles vaccine clinics: Now more options to book online

September 28, 2021

Starting last week, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has enhanced its immunization efforts to again offer a blend of bookable, outreach and walk-in vaccine clinics.

“While we’ve made great progress in immunizing Saskatchewan, we have to keep evolving our strategies to meet the needs of the public,” said Derek Miller, Commander, SHA Emergency Operations Centre. “Allowing more booked clinics provides flexibility for those residents that require it, while also continuing to offer pop-up walk-in clinics, booster doses for eligible populations and also continuing with our school immunization program for youth. Please don’t wait – get vaccinated today.”

Some of the communities taking bookings include: Big River, Esterhazy, Estevan, Foam Lake, Humboldt, Kelliher, Lanigan, Lloydminster, Melville, Moose Jaw, Moosomin, Nipawin, Ponteix, Regina, Rosetown, Saskatoon, Swift Current, Tisdale, Turtleford, Wakaw, Weyburn and Yorkton.

Northern Vaccination Clinics The SHA has increased vaccine availability in the north by approximately 30%, moving from 3,065 doses for the week of Sept. 12-18, to 3,971 doses the week of Sept. 19-25 available in planned community clinics throughout the region. This week The Battlefords is bringing back their drive-thru.

Pandemic of the Unvaccinated Nearly 84% of all new cases and hospitalizations in Saskatchewan in August were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people.

Recent analysis of 1,600+ cases: 98% of school-aged positive COVID cases live in households with unvaccinated or partially vaccinated parents.

Get Vaccinated All Saskatchewan residents 12 years and older are eligible for first and second dose COVID-19 immunization. This includes students 11 years of age that will turn 12 by December 31, 2021.

Booster doses are currently being administered to a small percentage of high-risk individuals. Those eligible in the current phase have received a letter with instructions on how to receive their booster. Details on additional phases will be publically announced when available.

The Government of Saskatchewan has permitted third and fourth doses for those who received a mixed series of an mRNA vaccine combined with a viral vector vaccine, and require two mRNA doses for international travel.

Vaccinations are also available at participating pharmacies throughout the province. A map of participating pharmacies across the province is available at  www.saskatchewan.ca/covid19-pharmacies .  This online tool includes links to pharmacy booking websites and provides details on the vaccine brand being offered at each location.
