We Are FSTVL

Time Out says

Okay, it’s technically in Essex, not London, but We Are FSTVL is still a firm favourite with Londoners. Now commemorating its tenth year, there's no better way to spend a bank holiday weekend than part of We Are FSTVL's massive dance celebration.

Who’s on the line-up this year?

Big-name dance behemoths programmed to perform include none other than Skepta, Shy FX, Carl Cox, Joel Corry and The Prodigy, plus many more. House and techno are the main ingredients here, but you’ll also find grime, garage and bassier flavours, too.

How can I get tickets?

You can purchase day or weekend tickets, and the option to include camping or coach is also available. Plus, VIP packages and group tickets for 4 or 6 people are on offer. Find out more about tickets here .

How do I get to We Are FSTVL?

To get there, hop on the district line to Upminster and then catch one of the many shuttle buses running to the festival site.

Foreign tourists eager for hcmc banh mi festival.

Frenchman Will Courageux said he flew from Hanoi to HCMC to attend the festival at Le Van Tam Park in District 1.

On the opening day on Friday, he tried Hai Phong breadsticks, special mixed bread, avocado bread, and fried bread, and returned on the second day to have fun with friends and try the Huynh Hoa brand .

He said he knew about the brand through videos of long queues spilling out onto the streets waiting to buy loaves of bread from the stall.

"Huynh Hoa's bread is exactly as everyone describes, two to three times larger than regular ones, with many types of fillings inside," he said. "Eating one is enough to fill you up for the whole afternoon."

Banh mi is also a French specialty, but Courageux said it's completely different from the Vietnamese version. French bread often has a fatty taste and does not have many fillings like in Vietnam, he said.

Keiichi from Japan visited the festival thanks to his friend’s introduction. He has been in HCMC for seven months and eats bread almost every day. Keiichi was eager to attend the event because there were many shops in HCMC that he had not had a chance to try.

He commented that the festival was fun, and although it was crowded, people did not have to queue too long to buy bread.

Before coming to Vietnam, Keiichi used to eat banh mi in Japan at a restaurant opened by Vietnamese people. Keiichi finds the taste not too different, but the fillings in Vietnam are "too much."

Keiichi expressed his desire to experience more Vietnamese culinary festivals.

Most foreign visitors are impressed with the bread’s fillings. After 15 minutes walking around the festival, Laura and Emma from South Africa found a bakery for vegetarians.

Emma said the festival atmosphere was vibrant and there are many types of bread that she had never tried.

When they first came to Vietnam, they thought bread only had salty fillings. Now they have discovered many shops selling vegetarian bread filled with mushrooms, vegetarian rolls, and vegetarian wraps.

"The bread is very cheap, has many fillings and can be eaten at any time of the day," Laura said.

Laura said that when traveling to any country, she always goes to culinary festivals to enjoy local delicacies. Previously, she participated in a vegetarian food festival in Vietnam.

The weather in Ho Chi Minh City during the festival has been much more pleasant than last month and Emma did not feel tired when participating in crowded outdoor activities.

The three-day festival in District 1's Le Van Tam Park is expected to welcome 100,000 visitors through Sunday.

The festival features over 130 pavilions showcasing the best Vietnamese baguette sandwiches that the nation’s top restaurants, bakeries and domestic and foreign suppliers have to offer.

Some 25% more eateries are participating this year compared to last year.

Kygo’s Palm Tree Music Festival has bumpy takeoff in Hamptons as FAA pulls permit at airport venue

A summer music fest at a Hamptons airport has hit some turbulence.

Page Six has learned that Kygo’s Palm Tree Music Festival, at Francis S Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach, has had its permit denied by the FAA.

But the fest is hoping the show can go on!

In its fourth year in the Hamptons, the fest is meant to take place June 22 with Swedish House Mafia headlining the lineup, with acts also including Kygo and a DJ set by Sofi Tukker.

The press office for the Suffolk County Executive confirmed to Page Six that the permit has been pulled, and that the music fest is now appealing.

A source said the issues involve some questions the FAA had about the fest.

The insider added, “Most of the questions from the FAA had to do with timelines of runway closures, because it’s an active airport.”

Also, “They thought it was a two-day festival and it’s only one day,” the source said.

“They’re already addressing these questions and have resubmitted… this is the permit that they’ve been approved on for the last two years,” the insider insisted.

A spokesperson for the fest said: “We’re excited to return to the Hamptons for a fourth year!”

We’ve previously reported that Hamptons fixture Jimmy Buffett made a surprise appearance at the fest in 2022.

Other attendees included Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, Sports Illustrated model Camille Kostek, “We Wore What” designer Danielle Bernstein, Melissa Wood Tepperberg and Sophia Culpo.

Calvin Harris has also played the fest, which also has installments in Hawaii and Nevada.

Luxe Living: We Stayed At The Hotel Stars Frequent During The Cannes Film Festival, And It's Peak Opulence

There is luxury , and then there is French luxury .

A 30-minute drive from the Nice Côte d’Azur Airport will bring you to Cannes, France, where the Hôtel Barriere Le Majestic is the crème de la crème when it comes to accommodations.

The 5-star hotel is the crown jewel of the Boulevard de la Croisette, the famous posh area that stretches along the French Riviera. Since its opening in 1926, La Majestic has been the standard in Cannes. Through its many renovations and additions, the hotel now has 257 rooms, including 92 suites and eight signature suites.

If $40,000 per night is in your budget, the Suite Majestic, with its private pool, butler service, and spa room, should be your top choice. For a slightly lower fee, the Christain Dior suite offers guests the chance to be immersed in the essence of the infamous fashion house.

The hotel’s walls are dotted with black and white images of the stars gracing the Cannes Film Festival , presently taking place, which the hotel has supported since hosting the event’s inception in 1946.

Upon arrival, Le Majestic is simply breathtaking. The grand entranceway is lined with palm trees and lush landscaping, perfectly contrasting the white stucco structure. The fun decorative touch is the colorful lights projecting onto the top floors of the building.

The lobby offers a sneak peek into the location’s splendor with its mirrored hallways, oversized floral arrangements, chandeliers, and shadow boxes displaying luxury designer items from nearby shops. And don’t worry about fussing with your bags. They are taken off your hands at the valet and delivered to your room within minutes to make your check-in process seamless. The 24/7 concierge service is an inexhaustible resource for your needs within and outside the hotel.

The rooms at the La Majestic are the epitome of French chic. The bathroom features a stand-alone shower, sunken tub, and toilet in a small privacy closet. The wall-mounted towel warmer is the perfect touch.

Luxe Living: We Stayed At The Hotel Stars Frequent During The Cannes Film Festival, And It’s Peak Opulence

To ensure a good night’s sleep, the hotel offers a “pillow menu,” presenting visitors with six varieties of pillows to experience for their optimum comfort level. The nightly turndown service comes with a padded floor mat, solidifying that this is anything but the average hotel stay. The icing on top is waking up to the double view of the Mediterranean Sea and the Riviera.

As impressive as the La Majestic is alone, the onsite spa facilities are just as charming. Spa Diane Barrière provides guests with a sauna, hammam (Turkish bath), salt wall, and fully equipped fitness studio that overlooks the heated infinity pool and ocean. A licensed manicurist and hairstylist are onsite for cosmetology services.

Luxe Living: We Stayed At The Hotel Stars Frequent During The Cannes Film Festival, And It’s Peak Opulence

The spa also provides personalized holistic treatments for your skin and body. To fully indulge, I suggest the full-body massage using the Ligne St. Barth coconut massage oil and a facial that utilizes the renowned Biologique Recherche skincare line.

If you hope to experience French culinary expertise in Cannes, you won’t have to go far.

The hotel’s restaurant, Fouquet’s Cannes , is another extension of Le Majestic’s commitment to luxury. Under the leadership of 3 Michelin-star chef Pierre Gagnaire, Fouquet’s has become favored by locals and visitors for exceeding the task of using locally sourced food and produce in ingenious forms of traditional French cuisine.

Luxe Living: We Stayed At The Hotel Stars Frequent During The Cannes Film Festival, And It’s Peak Opulence

The dining area’s ambiance is warm and plush. It is decorated in shades of gold and red, radiating off the dark wood tables and accents. The sexy, mysterious aura flows through to the in-house bar, led by bar manager Emanuele Balestra. Thanks to the ecological oasis on the hotel’s rooftop, he has elevated craft cocktails to a new level. The food and beverage team has cultivated an herb and flower garden that provides ingredients and garnish for menu items.

Balestra uses the garden’s harvest to create a line of edible perfumes that bartenders use to enhance the taste of the drinks. Scientifically distilled mixes of flowers, herbs, citrus fruits, and other aromatics are used to create the perfumes, which are then sprayed on the glasses of the specialty drinks. Your typical French 75 is taken to new heights with a spritz of Menton lemon and floral accents.

Outside dining options are just as impressive. The Mademoiselle Gray Plage, located on the property’s private beach, is the perfect place for lunch with a Mediterranean flair.

The BFire is the newest addition to the Le Majestic’s culinary makeup. Chef Mauro Colagreco has brought the perfect blend of intense and savory flavors to the Riviera using wood-firing techniques influenced by his Argentinean and Italian upbringing.

And leave room for dessert! Executive pastry chef Nicolas Maugard presents consumable evidence of why the French reign supreme in sweet treats. Maugard also offers lessons to guests who want to try their hand at some of the restaurant’s signature desserts.

Luxe Living: We Stayed At The Hotel Stars Frequent During The Cannes Film Festival, And It’s Peak Opulence

Although Le Majestic has everything at your beck and call, the city of Cannes is magical. Across from the hotel is the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès (Palace of Festivals and Conferences), the hosting convention center for the Cannes Film Festival.

A short walk will lead you to the center of the town’s activity, featuring multiple shops and the Forville Market, where you can purchase fresh produce, fish, and food. A visit to the Rivera would only be complete with a boat ride in the Mediterranean and a visit to Marguerite Island.

Luxe Living: We Stayed At The Hotel Stars Frequent During The Cannes Film Festival, And It’s Peak Opulence

I highly doubt anyone needs convincing to venture to Cannes, France. Still, whether you’re making your way there for the film festival or living out your dreams on the beaches of the Riviera, Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic is the perfect place to lay your head and experience the best in French luxury.

Where do the stars stay during Cannes Film Festival? We went exploring…

The most luxurious hotels at the festival revealed.

Emmy Griffiths

The French Riviera is a very glamorous place, but it gives a star-studded edge when Hollywood’s finest flock to the Cannes Film Festival every year. Between premieres and press conferences, A-list royalty enjoy hanging out in some stunning hotels during their time at the festival - but where do they all stay?

From iconic Carlton Cannes to the very popular Le Martinez, we have tracked down the hottest celeb stays - and of course we tried to visit them all!

Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel

Carlton Cannes is a particularly iconic hotel. The Regent Hotel was the setting for Cannes’ first-ever festival back in 1946; Hollywood’s best and brightest have been loving it ever since. Stars including Meryl Streep, Heidi Klum and Greta Gerwig have been snapped at the hotel this year - so would we have any luck if we visited for a little cocktail?

While Meryl didn’t come and join us for a drink at the hotel’s Bar 58, we saw a host of glamorous guests dressed to the nines, including Chicken Shop Date star Amelia Dimoldenberg! While we’re not sure which stars are actually staying at the hotel - or just popping in for a drink like we were, it is a bonafide celeb hot spot.

A glimpse at the Carlton Hotel

As for past years, A-lists including Uma Thurman, Clint Eastwood, Sharon Stone, Bruce Willis, and Quentin Tarantino have stayed at the glam location.

Hotel Martinez

In the perfect location for the festival and the location of some very exciting parties over the event, we have spotted the  Hotel Martinez  pop up time and time again, with Anya Taylor-Joy being snapped at the establishment in 2024. When we paid a visit for a little rose on a sunny day, we immediately spotted Lily Gladstone heading through the lobby - and a member of staff told us all about the starry guests.

They said: ”I saw Greta Gerwig, Omar Sy and Anna Taylor-Joy come in for dinner at the L'Palme d'Or, where all the celebrities come. Omar was so kind to me when I chatted with him. I see Anya every day, and every day she looks spectacular in a new outfit. I haven't spoken to her yet, but I would like to say hi.”

While it is admittedly a little far out from where all the action is at Cannes - I think plenty of A-listers would say it’s worth it. The hotel is famously stunning, with stars including Bella Hadid, Michelle Rodriguez, Paris Hilton and Lizzo! Chatting to a guest at the hotel, it sounds like a luxury experience like no other, particularly thanks to their waterboat service straight to the festival at a mere 550 Euros!

Cannes Film Festival: 5 Things to Look for

With the most prestigious festival in the world starting Tuesday, here are the movies, artists and events we’ll be keeping an eye on.

In the back of a car, a man in a three-piece suit holds a phone to his ear while another man in a suit looks at him with concern.

By Kyle Buchanan

On Tuesday, the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will begin in the south of France. You can expect glamorous gowns and awfully prolonged standing ovations — at Cannes, such things are de rigueur — but what distinguishes this year’s lineup? Here are five things we’ll be watching out for.

A new Coppola on the Croisette.

Some 45 years after Francis Ford Coppola’s “Apocalypse Now” won the Palme d’Or at Cannes, he will return to the Croisette, the festival promenade, with “ Megalopolis ,” starring Adam Driver as a visionary architect determined to rebuild a city after it’s beset by disaster. Coppola self-financed the longtime passion project to the tune of $120 million, a steep price tag that has so far deterred potential distributors. Puck’s Matthew Belloni reported that at a March screening meant to entice buyers, many came away confounded by Coppola’s vision: “There are zero commercial prospects and good for him,” said one source. But if it’s true that the film is a big, wild swing, it’s hard to imagine a friendlier place for its public debut than Cannes, where the filmmaker is revered.

‘Furiosa’ starts its engines.

The biggest movie to debut at Cannes this year will be “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” the latest film in director George Miller’s postapocalyptic action franchise. This one serves as a prequel to the Oscar-winning “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which premiered at Cannes to great acclaim in 2015 and produced an unexpected moment at the film’s news conference when star Tom Hardy apologized to Miller for his bad behavior during the shoot. Expect a big bash for the new movie and a major red-carpet moment from its fashionable star Anya Taylor-Joy , who takes over the titular character originated by Charlize Theron.

A cinematic Trump card.

If any Americans traveling abroad are counting on Cannes for two weeks of respite from this contentious election year, the festival has a rude reminder in the form of Ali Abbasi’s “ The Apprentice .” This political origin story of sorts stars Sebastian Stan as a young Donald J. Trump, Maria Bakalova as his first wife, Ivana, and the “Succession” star Jeremy Strong as Trump’s mentor, the fixer Roy Cohn. Could this be the only film at Cannes this year eligible for both the Palme d’Or and a clapback on Truth Social?

Real-world controversies.

Cannes may be the world’s most prestigious film festival, but it rarely goes off without a hitch. This year’s festival is bracing for two potential disruptions. One is a threatened strike by the festival’s workers, who have complained that their short-term jobs do not allow them to qualify for unemployment benefits. The other is a still-breaking story as the French film industry reckons with its own #MeToo movement, with more accusations rumored to come during the festival. Expect a comment from the French actress and director Judith Godrèche , who will be at the festival with the short film “Moi Aussi” (“Me Too”) and recently made headlines after accusing the director Benoît Jacquot of sexually assaulting her when she was 14. She has also accused the director Jacques Doillon of sexually assaulting her twice. Both men have denied the allegations.

The hunt for the next movie sensation.

This year’s lineup goes heavy on all-star auteurs, with new films from Yorgos Lanthimos (“ Kinds of Kindness ”), Andrea Arnold (“Bird”), Sean Baker (“Anora”) and Paul Schrader (“Oh, Canada”). But Cannes is even more fun when an unexpected movie pops, as “ Anatomy of a Fall ” did last year when it earned rave reviews and the Palme d’Or, setting up a path that would eventually lead to Oscar glory.

What will be the movie that no one is anticipating before the festival but everyone will be talking about afterward? I’ll be on the ground trying to sniff it out.

Cannes 2024: The 15 Movies We’re Most Excited to See

  • By David Fear

A musical involving drug cartels, gender identity, and Selena Gomez. A Brooklyn sex worker’s fairy-tale romance involving a Russian oligarch’s son. An Italian director’s tribute to his hometown, via the sort of go-for-baroque filmmaking that’s become rarer and rarer, and a woman named after a siren from The Odyssey. A French filmmaker’s tribute to his own career, filled with past heroes and villains from a rich back catalog. The return of a New Hollywood legend. A high-octane sequel from an Australian New Wave legend. A harrowing yet uplifting doc on Ukraine. A biopic on Donald Trump: The Younger, Pre-Fascist Years!

These are just a few of buzzier titles set to be unveiled once the Cannes Film Festival kicks off on May 14, and we haven’t even got to Cate Blanchett communing in a forest with a giant brain yet. An omnivorous moviegoer’s dream come true, the big event on the fest-circuit’s spring calendar kicks off with the latest from auteur/agent provocateur Quentin Dupieux — a Louis Garrel/Léa Seydoux comedy titled The Second Act — and over the next few weeks, will premiere everything from the first half of Kevin Costner’s new Western ( Horizon: Part 1 ) to new works from Francis Ford Coppola, David Cronenberg, Yorgos Lanthimos, Paul Schrader, Andrea Arnold, Jia Zhang-ke, Leos Carax, and a whole lot more.

We’ve skimmed the cream of this year’s Cannes crop, and come up with 15 movies we’re dying to see during the 2024 edition’s run.

‘Anora’

Writer-director Sean Baker ( Tangerine, The Florida Project, Red Rocket ) hits the Croisette with a rom-com centered around a Brooklyn-based sex worker ( Better Things ‘ Mikey Madison) who finds herself in a real-life Cinderella story when she meets a rich, Russian Prince Charming. It sounds like a dream, until, well … you remember what happened to Cinderella when the clock struck midnight, and the carriage turned back into a pumpkin?

‘The Apprentice’

travel to we are festival

Have you heard the one about the real estate mogul who became a reality-TV star, then decided to go into politics? Holy Spider director Ali Abbasi takes on the rise of one Donald J. Trump, right as this Queens native starts making power moves with the help of a longtime power broker. Sebastian Stan plays the younger Donald (!); Borat’s Maria Bakalova is Ivana Trump (!!); and no less than Jeremy “I’m the Eldest Boy!” Strong is Trump enabler-slash-Prince of Darkness Roy Cohn (!!!). There will be controversy around these screenings. Bet on it.

‘The Balconettes’

travel to we are festival

French actor Noémie Merlant ( Portrait of a Woman on Fire, Tár ) reminds you that “writer-director” is also part of her ever-growing resumé, courtesy of this dark comedy about a trio of women — played by Merlant, Sanda Codreneau, and Soheila Yacoub — who begin interfering with their neighbors’ lives during a massive heat wave. Then they take things too far, and suddenly, what started as way of alleviating boredom becomes, per the press notes, “a bloody affair.” Bonus: Her Portrait director Célinne Sciamma co-wrote the script.

‘Bird’

travel to we are festival

If you’ve seen British filmmaker Andrea Arnold’s work, then you know she has a knack for finding poignancy in hardscrabble lives, and moments of tenderness within the toughest of coming-of-age circumstances. Her latest sounds like it falls within her Fish Tank -type sweet spot: A 12-year-old girl (Nykia Adams) lives in Kent with her father (Barry Keoghan) and brother (Jason Buda). A mysterious stranger ( Passages ‘ Franz Rogowski) soon enters the picture.

‘Emilia Perez’

travel to we are festival

There’s a lot of buzz around the new film from Jacques Audiard, whose extraordinary body of work includes everything from a remake of James Toback’s Fingers ( The Beat That My Heart Skipped ) to a weirdo Western ( The Sisters Brothers ) to the greatest prison movie of the past 20 years ( A Prophet ). All we know about this latest project is that it involves a lawyer (Zoe Saldana), a cartel drug lord yearning “to become the woman he has already dreamt of being,” and Selena Gomez. Also it’s a musical. We’re so ready for this.

‘Furiosa’

travel to we are festival

Mad Max: Fury Road had a massive, out-of-competition gala screening at Cannes (one day before it was released) back in 2015, so it’s no surprise that George Miller would premiere its follow-up prequel — which gives us the origin story of Max’s female cohort, the mighty Imperator Furiosa — at the festival. Anya Taylor-Joy steps into Charlize Theron’s battered, dusty boots to play a younger version of the postapocalyptic anti-heroine. Also along for the ride(s) are: Chris Hemsworth, playing a character with the A+ name of Dementus; The Souvenir ‘s Tom Burke, as the toughest road warrior in town; and a shit-ton of stunt people risking their lives in the name of analog, go-for-broke screen mayhem. To the gates of Valhalla!

‘The Invasion’

travel to we are festival

Ukrainian filmmaker Sergi Loznitsa has been chronicling his country’s ongoing civil war with Russia for years, in films like Maidan (2014) and Donbass (2018). His latest documents the nation’s current life during wartime in the face of bombings, on-the-ground combat, and constant hardship. It refuses to pull punches — his films never do — yet this time around, he’s said he wanted to keep focus on the population’s resilience in the face of Putin’s aggressive campaign against them.

‘It’s Not Me (C’est Pas Moi)’

travel to we are festival

Trust a filmmaker like Leos Carax ( Holy Motors ) to make a self-portrait and then call the thing It’s Not Me. In other words: classic Carax! French cinema’s reigning enfant terrible -slash-oddball genius has concocted a 40-minute featurette of experimental autofiction, casting his longtime collaborator and screen counterpart Denis Levant to play both the director and what we’re told is a host of past characters from Carax’s movies. Mind — blown!

‘Kinds of Kindness’

travel to we are festival

Yorgos Lanthimos’ follow-up to Poor Things was supposed to come out right on the heels of that Oscar-nominated juggernaut, under the title And… , last year. Thank god that we got a chance to catch our breath before his next round of disturbing absurdism hits us and likely leaves us reeling. It’s a triptych of stories that features a to-die-for cast — including Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Hunter Schafer, and Mamadou Athie — many of whom play different roles in all three chapters. “Kindness” is always a relative term in Lanthimos’ universe, so take that word’s inclusion in the title with a boulder-sized grain of salt.

‘Megalopolis’

travel to we are festival

For close to 40 years, Francis Ford Coppola has been chasing a story built around the concept of utopias, visionaries, and the rise and fall of empires. Now, the maestro has finally caught his white whale and turned a dream into a reality. The early word on Coppola’s epic featuring [ deep breath ] Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Giancarlo Esposito, Laurence Fishburne, the Midnight Cowboy duo of Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight, SNL ‘s Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, and Coppola family members Talia Shire and Jason Schwartzman has been divisive, to say the least — responses range from “masterpiece” to “dude, WTF?!” But there’s no film we’re looking forward to seeing more at this year’s Cannes than this tale of artists vs. politicians, and the fact that Coppola is premiering this late work at the same festival that gave Apocalypse Now its inaugural, “in-progress” bow feels like a full-circle moment. Good or bad, it’s undoubtedly going to be unforgettable.

‘Oh Canada’

travel to we are festival

It’s hard to think of a living Hollywood filmmaker who’s had such a major third-act rejuvenation as Paul Schrader; ever since First Reformed suggested that the New Hollywood lion-in-winter had experienced a creative second wind, the 77-year-old has delivered bold, uncompromising dramas about complicated characters working their way out of existential ruts ( The Card Counter, Master Gardener ). Now, Schrader tackles another work from the late, great novelist Russell Banks, the same author who gave him the source material for 1997’s Affliction. A writer (Richard Gere) decides to make peace with his past as an American who moved to the Great White North to avoid being drafted during the Vietnam War. His decision to tell all does not sit well with his friends and loved ones, however. Uma Thurman, Michael Imperioli, and current It guy Jacob Elordi co-star.

‘Parthenope’

travel to we are festival

Greek-mythology scholars and fans of The Odyssey will be quick to point out that Parthenope is the name of a siren who attempted to sing Homer’s hero to his death, and ended up in a watery grave herself. The new film from Paolo Sorrentino ( The Great Beauty, The Hand of God ) features a character who shares this legendary figure’s name, but per the man himself , “is neither siren nor myth.” Instead, she’s something like a tour guide to Sorrentino’s love letter to the region that he grew up in, and one that will likely contain his signature mix of surreality, capital-R Romanticism, and his flair for gloriously over-the-top cinematic flourishes. You may love or hate the man’s work, but you’re never bored by it, and a new film from this major Italian filmmaker is always a big deal.

‘Rumours’

travel to we are festival

From the moment that the first still from Guy Maddin’s new movie hit the internet — featuring two folks crouching next to a giant brain in some hallucinogenic forest — you could tell that this was going to be severely cracked even by the Canadian cult filmmaker’s standards. The logline of this dream-like fable (co-directed by Maddin’s longtime collaborators Evan and Galen Johnson, and produced by Ari Aster) is that a group of world leaders has gathered for the annual G7 summit. Then the night before a presentation, they all get lost in the woods, and … who knows what happens next. Cate Blanchett, Alicia Vikander, Denis Ménochet, Nikki Amuka-Bird, and Charles Dance are among those stuck in this waking nightmare; if it’s even half as wonderful as My Winnipeg, we’re in for a treat.

‘The Shrouds’

travel to we are festival

When David Cronenberg was promoting Crimes of the Future after its premiere at Cannes in 2022, he mentioned a project that he’d envisioned as a series for Netflix , before the streaming service passed on it. The Canadian director said that he hoped to turn it into a feature soon. The fear was that it would just become another what-if work left without a home or a patron saint, but the man made good on his word — and we now have another unsettling, dread-inducing thriller about a man (Vincent Cassel) who’s trying to franchise technologically advanced graveyards around the world. Then a mysterious event occurs at his flagship location, which sets off a chain of events that reverberates in a number of ways. Given how Cassel’s gray mane makes him a dead ringer for the director — and Cronenberg has talked about this was inspired by his grief over the death of his wife in 2017 — this sounds like one of his more personal films.

‘September Says’

travel to we are festival

French-Greek actor Ariane Labed — you likely know her from her husband Yorgos Lanthimos’ films such as Dogtooth and The Lobster — makes her feature directorial debut with this story about two sisters, September (Pascale Kann) and July (Mia Tharia), who travel with their mother for a vacation in Ireland. Except the bond between those two siblings has been fraying of late, and going abroad together has more or less pushed their simmering tensions to a full boil.

We Got a First Look Inside Disney's Newest Theme Park Land — Here’s Everything to Know About Fantasy Springs

We rode every ride and ate everything at Fantasy Springs — the newest land at Tokyo DisneySea.

In Disney's newest land, fantasy meets real life with adventures and eateries inspired by "Peter Pan," "Frozen," and "Tangled."

Aptly called Fantasy Springs, it's the newest themed land and the eighth “port of call” at nautically themed Tokyo DisneySea, a theme park regarded as one of the very best in the world thanks to its super-immersive, larger-than-life design and unique attractions.

As you walk through the land’s entrance between Arabian Coast and Lost River Delta, a cinematic score with musical themes pulled from Disney films builds as you approach the stunning carved rockwork featuring Peter Pan, Anna and Elsa, and Rapunzel — along with several of their companions — amid colorful blooms and waterfalls. The lush landscaping and intricate carvings continues throughout the springs with dozens of Disney characters hidden (and not-so-hidden) in coves and grottos spread from the entrance to the new Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel.

Fantasy Springs officially opens on June 6, but we got a first look at the land’s rides, restaurants, and gorgeous mini-lands themed to favorite Disney stories. So, after riding every new attraction (several times!), taste-testing all the new food items, and exploring the land before it opens to the public next month — here’s everything you need to know about Fantasy Springs at Tokyo DisneySea, broken down by each mini-land.

Elizabeth Rhodes/Travel + Leisure

Step into the world of Arendelle in Frozen Kingdom. The gorgeous land inspired by the hit Disney film series features a restaurant — the Royal Banquet of Arendelle — located inside Arendelle Castle, Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey attraction, and, not to mention, some of the prettiest bathrooms I’ve ever seen at a Disney park.

Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey

A stunning retelling of the events of the original “Frozen” movie, this 6.5-minute boat ride showcases stellar audio-animatronic figures singing beloved songs from the film including “For the First Time in Forever” and “Let It Go.” Throughout the attraction, guests sail forward and backward through beautiful scenes — including a few that incorporate mind-blowing effects that make the journey all the more immersive. Of the four all-new Fantasy Springs rides, this was my favorite, thanks to the impressive show scenes (using primarily practical sets, rather than screens), fluid ride movement that drives the storytelling, and the inclusion of the most popular songs from the movie. These details also make the ride a unique experience compared to the existing “Frozen” attractions in other Disney parks.

And like all the attractions in this new land, the audio is completely Japanese, but guests familiar with the stories will have no trouble following along, no matter what language they speak.

Royal Banquet of Arendelle

Join a celebratory banquet and explore the halls of Arendelle at this new “Frozen”-themed counter-service restaurant. Here, guests can indulge in “Arendelle’s Royal Set,” with a warm savory pie, potatoes, salad, dessert, and a fluffy roll. Guests used to the American parks may be surprised to find that each dining location (throughout the Tokyo parks) only has a couple of menu options, so definitely check out the offerings ahead of time so you know where to find the dishes you want to try.

 Oaken’s OK Foods

This snack stand, inspired by the cheerful Oaken, serves Oaken’s Yoo-Hoo Bread. It’s a cardamom-flavored bread filled with Scandinavian-inspired meat with lingonberry jam for a delightful mix of sweet, savory, and spiced.

Rapunzel’s Forest

This “Tangled”-themed land is instantly recognizable thanks to Rapunzel’s soaring tower. Rapunzel’s Forest is home to the Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival ride and The Snuggly Duckling quick-service restaurant.

Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival

Sail through iconic scenes from the fan-favorite movie during Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival, a peaceful five-minute boat ride. Seeing Rapunzel sing from her tower high in the sky is a highlight of the beginning of the attraction, but the beautiful recreation of the lantern festival scene is undoubtedly the best part of the romantic ride.

The Snuggly Duckling

The Pub Thugs’ favorite hangout, The Snuggly Duckling comes to life at this quick-service restaurant just steps from the ride. Find a cheeseburger, fried shrimp burger (my preferred option of the two burgers), milk tea, and a Dutch baby-adjacent dessert served in a plastic  mini frying pan (a reference to Rapunzel’s weapon of choice).

Join Peter Pan and the Lost Kids in Never Land, a sizeable mini-land with plenty of space to play in the shadow of smoking mountains that look like they’re straight out of the animated film. This land has two rides plus a recreation of Captain Hook’s Jolly Roger ship and a quick-service restaurant.

Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure

Board a boat and get sprinkled with pixie dust to take off on an adventure to save John from the pirates on this six-minute motion simulator dark ride. After a cute pre-show, guests will don their 3D glasses and take off on an adventure through Never Land and the skies of London. The ride uses a mix of practical sets and 3D motion simulators to give guests the feeling that they’re really flying alongside the Lost Kids. The motion is very smooth, and I loved the final sequence where you fly from London back to Never Land — it’s charming and even a little thrilling.

Guests must be 102 cm or taller to ride, and guests who struggle with severe motion sickness on motion simulators may want to consider sitting this one out — but don’t worry, there’s another ride in this land for you.

Fairy Tinker Bell’s Busy Buggies

This adorable two-minute ride takes guests on an outdoor journey through the four seasons of Pixie Hollow. Darling scenes and fun details (like the scent of honey when you pass the bees) make this a great attraction for younger guests.

Lookout Cookout

This counter-service restaurant serves up snack boxes filled with fried chicken tenders, seaweed fritters, shrimp chips, and more (I loved the butter chicken flavor), plus a kiwi-flavored Pixie Dust Soda. You can also find the roast beef popcorn wagon (specially flavored popcorns are a big deal at Tokyo Disney!) nearby.

Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel

Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel offers two distinct hotel concepts overlooking Fantasy Springs. Fantasy Chateau is a deluxe hotel with 419 guest rooms and easy access to the new land, and Grand Chateau is a luxury hotel — the highest-level hotel at the resort — with just 56 rooms and exclusive amenities. The pastel hotel has a whimsical art nouveau design with Disney princess-inspired touches throughout the rooms and common spaces. Downstairs, there’s also a park-facing shop, Fantasy Springs Gifts.

How to Access Fantasy Springs

To enter Fantasy Springs, guests will need to obtain either a free standby pass or a Disney Premier Access pass for an eligible attraction (for a fee). Currently, the only attraction that does not offer Premier Access is Fairy Tinker Bell’s Busy Buggies. Guests staying at the new hotel and those who have purchased eligible vacation packages can also access the land with a 1-Day Passport . Find more information on the Tokyo Disney website.

(In 1933 late owner George Poulos renamed the store after his wife, Margie Michaels.) Viewers left hungry for season 3 (premiering June 27) can scoot into a booth at the beloved spot or re-create a bit of the magic at home with this sundae recipe.
