Why volunteer in Africa?

Africa is one of the most popular destinations for volunteers abroad, and for good reason. In the countries where we work, communities face numerous challenges and need extra support. As a volunteer, you’ll provide resources, offer your skills, and work directly with local people towards long-term goals.

Volunteers in Africa do things like :

  • Treat wounds for leprosy patients and test for malaria in Ghana
  • Build classrooms in Maasai villages in Tanzania
  • Protect endangered species of giraffe in Kenya

And so much more!

These are Africa-specific issues that need people like you to offer your time for long-term solutions. At the same time, you get to explore a unique culture in some of the world’s most spectacular locations.

Service Trips Abroad

IVHQ Service Trips Abroad

What are service trips?

Service trips are purpose-driven experiences that enable you to make a difference and grow as a person. Trips are built around visiting a community to devote a short period of time to a specific cause and are brought to life by the unforgettable moments that come from meaningful volunteer work, cultural exchange and service learning.

If you’re taking a service trip abroad you don’t have to go for a long time to create positive outcomes. A month or 1 week spent volunteering on a meaningful project and immersed in the local way of life provides you with an authentic insight into the culture and allows you to connect with the greater purpose of your volunteer work. Your efforts will support and grow on the long-term impact of previous international volunteers and you’ll experience tasks relevant to a career or field of study.

If you’re a college student, gap year traveler, or teenager then taking part in service trip abroad is one of the best ways to engage in service learning. As both a student and volunteer, you’re fully immersed in the community and able to see the benefits of your work through the eyes of locals. There are also fewer distractions to water-down the learning and plenty of opportunities for post-work reflection to further cement the day’s lessons. Many volunteer programs can be used as course credit towards a qualification.

International Volunteer HQ offers service trips in the form of meaningful and trusted volunteer abroad programs. Volunteers are able to gain practical experience on a wide range of projects , in more than 50 destinations around the world . These opportunities are available from between 1-24 weeks with affordable volunteer fees from $20 (approximately $20 ) per day including accommodation.

What types of Service Trips are there?

Service trips for college students.

service trips for college students

Service trips are the perfect opportunity for college students to gain hands on experience in a practical setting. Trips can be taken during Spring Break or Summer and Winter holidays, with programs running for 1 to 24 weeks in more than 40 countries.

Service Trips For Families

service trips for families

Service trips for families provide a truly life changing family vacation. It’s an experience that allows you to instill your values for service and meaningful travel, all while creating unforgettable moments with your loved ones.

Service Trips For Teens

service trips for teens

Teens and high school students can volunteer on service trips independently, with guardians or in a supervised group setting. Choose from a range of options tailored to grow young minds and shape future leaders.

Service Trips For Adults

IVHQ service trips for adults

Are you taking a career break, hitting refresh on life, or retired? Volunteers aged 35+ have an incredible depth of knowledge and life experience which makes them awesome volunteers that can make a profound difference abroad.

Service trips abroad

Why should you take a service trip?

People who take part in service trips and service learning abroad get the reward of seeing the difference they can make, as well as the benefits of cementing theories and concepts by seeing them in action.

Many lessons are best learnt in practice - that may be using a teaching technique successfully, helping to construct a building or spending one-on-one time helping to care for the elderly. This is precisely why service learning is such a powerful way of absorbing knowledge and gaining experience. It shouldn’t be seen as a replacement for theoretical learning; service learning is an excellent supplement to textbook studies.

For students entering the workforce, there are huge benefits in being able to show practical experience. However, without a chance to get that experience, it can be a trap that’s difficult to escape. By taking service learning opportunities abroad, that important practical experience can be gained to make a résumé stand out from the rest. What’s more, the initiative to go on a service trip abroad shows drive, creativity and a willingness to learn that is attractive to employers.

Many IVHQ volunteer programs require volunteers to have qualifications or be at a certain level of study. For example, students wanting to go on many medical programs need to show relevant skills and qualifications in order to be accepted. This helps to ensure the mutual benefit of the work being suitable for the volunteer and the community.

By completing your service learning as a volunteer through IVHQ, you also get all the benefits of international travel. You’ll see iconic sights, learn about other cultures, try new food, meet new people and experience more of the world - all adding up to grow your experience as a global citizen and develop your cultural understanding.

Here at IVHQ, we are world leaders in providing service trips for groups . Our dedicated Groups Team can provide specialized itineraries and tailored group packages.

Service trips abroad

How do service trips benefit the community?

Every community faces challenges. That’s why we know that no matter where in the world you choose to travel, you can make a meaningful contribution. Communities who open themselves up to hosting volunteers are working together, across cultures, to build a better tomorrow.

The benefits for communities are clear - the community needs help and a volunteer provides it. It’s that simple. Support from a well-meaning, motivated volunteer can, and does, achieve tangible results.

The type of volunteer work that’s needed in these communities is important. It could be that volunteers are needed to support the disabled, assist local farmers or help wildlife conservation efforts. While it’s beneficial, it can be seen as less important for everyone’s day-to-day life. Without volunteers or service learners to help, a lot of this kind of work would simply not be done.

Members of these communities abroad also benefit through cross-cultural exchange. Exposure to different cultures and beliefs helps both volunteers and locals to enhance their appreciation for the world, challenge themselves with a foreign approach to life and have a better awareness for the way others live.

IVHQ volunteers also contribute to communities through volunteer fees . Volunteers pay a Program Fee which covers food, accommodation, supervision and a pick-up from the airport. This money goes into the local community and helps to keep locals employed.

It’s for reasons like these that IVHQ is a big believer in the power of meaningful travel experiences. Since 2007, IVHQ volunteers have contributed approximately 776 years of volunteer labor abroad and more than US$76 million in Program Fees which have gone directly to local communities. And, more than 138,000 volunteers have become more open-minded, expanded their purpose and uncovered their place in the world.

7 Best service trips to experience in 2019

Service trips in Africa IVHQ has more than 16 years experience providing service trips in Africa. You can choose to support meaningful projects in 9 countries across this vibrant continent, including opportunities in South Africa, Ghana and Kenya. This is a meaningful way to take part in community service, get out of your comfort zone and find your place in the world.

Health volunteering in India Based in Delhi, the biggest city in India, volunteers can work in either local hospitals or slum clinics. Both involve working in under-resourced healthcare environments alongside local professionals. Volunteering in local hospitals involves more shadowing and observational duties, while volunteering in slum clinics is more hands-on and fast-paced. Both options provide valuable learning opportunities and first-hand experience working alongside respected physicians. This project is available for medical students at any level, in a range of specialities including nursing and physical therapy.

NGO Support project in Italy NGOs in Italy operate in a wide range of fields, but all face similar challenges in terms of resources and having enough hands on deck to get things done. Based in Rome, volunteers gain valuable insight into day-to-day life working in an NGO and taking part in campaigns, workshops, marketing and research.

Conservation volunteering in Guatemala Volunteers wanting to work in conservation in Guatemala have two options to choose from - Turtle Conservation or Ego-Agriculture Conservation.

The Turtle Conservation project is perfect for those willing to roll up their sleeves to help protect endangered sea turtles and help with nest protection programs. It involves predator protection, building hatcheries, beach cleaning and all manner of duties involved in helping to increase the local turtle population.

The Eco-Agriculture Conservation project places volunteers in either a coffee or macadamia nut farm, assisting local farmers with day-to-day tasks. Farming efforts target sustainable means of production and work varies depending on the time of year. This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the coal face of unique agriculture projects with experienced locals to guide and educate you.

Childcare project in Argentina - Buenos Aires This is an ideal project for those interested in childcare to help where they’re sorely needed. Volunteers are placed in local soup kitchens, working with vulnerable children and providing them a safe place to be during the day. Activities can include sports, arts and crafts and songs. Volunteers also help to provide meals for up to 45 children and teenagers at a time.

Teaching project in Romania Romania provides a well structured teaching environment for volunteers, who are placed in schools helping educate students between six to 16 years old. You’ll volunteer alongside a local teacher and support English language tuition, as well as assistance in other parts of the school curriculum. This is a very authentic teaching experience.

Special Needs Care project in Peru - Cusco Those interested in caring for the disabled or elderly can provide valuable assistance in the city of Cusco in Peru. Working in homes for mentally and physically disabled children, and the elderly, volunteers help with all aspects of personal care for those who need it. This is both rewarding and practical work, working in a hands-on capacity in a unique setting among the Peruvian Andes.

Using service learning for course credit

Students undertaking service learning through IVHQ volunteer programs can get course credit towards their qualifications. Many IVHQ programs have elements that match up well to a number of majors.

IVHQ’s Campus team can work directly with colleges and universities to ensure a volunteer’s program is relevant to their study and requirements for service learning course credit are met.

Email IVHQ’s Campus Manager directly here for all enquiries relating to gaining course credit for volunteering.

This is just a snapshot of the many volunteer trips IVHQ has available to those interested in using service trips as a way of furthering themselves and giving back to a community in need. For more information, search IVHQ projects and find a destination that works for you.

In international locations, we will also carry a Trauma Kit or First Responder Kit. In these remote locations, we will have medications like Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Benadryl, and Imodium on hand. We make these available to adult team leaders for their sole discretionary use with their team members. EM Staff will not dispense any medications.

EM's Health & Safety Plan

Based on the severity of each emergency, EM has a plan for appropriate response.

If a team member becomes seriously ill, they will be taken to a local doctor to receive appropriate medical attention and medications. If they are a minor, their Team Leader along with our staff will accompany them to the clinic. If needed, their parents will be contacted. Their recovery will be carefully monitored by our staff.

If there is an accident that requires a doctor, but is not life-threatening and does not have the potential to cause permanent damage, Experience Mission staff will locate the Team Leader, contact parents or guardians (providing the injured is a minor) and provide safe but quick transportation to a local clinic.

In the event that an accident occurs that is life-threatening or has the potential for permanent damage, emergency medical care will be secured and arraignments will be made if necessary, to transport the injured person to the United States as quickly as possible providing they are serving in one of our International locations. In our domestic locations, local 911 services will be contacted immediately. The family will be contacted immediately to assist in guidance for appropriate response.

All medical care is the sole responsibility of the team member. Experience Mission requires every team member to be covered by domestic medical insurance and recommends that team members traveling abroad carry additional international travel insurance to cover any medical needs their domestic medical insurance may not cover.

The new playground will have a huge impact on the community and also demonstrate what a difference we can make! Your efforts will be rewarded with the meaningful friendships and connections you’ll form with the locals along the way and the sense of accomplishment you’ll feel when you have completed the project.

Upon arrival in Sedgefield we will check into our accommodation that is just steps from one of the most stunning beaches in town. During our time in Sedgefield, we will go on a kayaking and waterfall walk adventure and spend plenty of time at the beach!

We will partner with a primary school that serves rural families from some of South Africa’s most economically disadvantaged sectors.  Quality education and educational facilities areas are still a huge challenge in this region. We will work with the school and our local partners to build a playground from start to finish for the community to enhance the educational space. The lively village atmosphere of this region ensures that there is almost always a gathering of local children making for a fun and interactive experience.

Once our service work is complete, we’ll feel the satisfaction of having made a real contribution to people’s lives as we say goodbye to the Wild Coast. Time and time again, those who join us on our South Africa program return home with increased confidence, self awareness, and a renewed passion for volunteer work as a meaningful part of their goals in life.

Our journey will take us to one of the most unbelievably beautiful regions of South Africa, Mpumalanga, where we will explore the incredible Kruger National Park. We will traverse some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes, including the third-largest canyon in the world, Blyde River Canyon. Picture yourself in a game drive vehicle passing herds of elephants, pods of hippos, dazzles of zebra, and, of course, a pride of lions! You will be astonished by the beauty of this place, as we are led by experienced local guides who take care of our safety while still bringing us close to the many animals who call the park home.

Frequently Asked Questions

See All FAQs

What kind of teen typically participates in this program? What are the requirements to join?

Teens from all over the world join this program! Typically, our participants are culturally curious  individuals who are excited to make new friends, experience something unique, and interested in stepping out of their comfort zones and expanding their horizons.

This program is exclusively for students who are currently in grades 9th through 12th and approximately 14 to 18 years old. Students living outside of the USA are welcome to join!

Where do we stay?

Our hotels are chosen specifically in safe areas and are well suited to facilitating group supervision. We stay in centrally located accommodations, usually within walking distance of the main attractions. We do not use large, impersonal chain hotels on the outskirts of cities; we prefer to select smaller, family-run hotels where we establish personal relationships with the owners.

For safety reasons, we do not publish the names of the accommodations we use. We do not feel it is safe to publish the name of a hotel where a group of teenagers is staying abroad. After registering, participants and parents are given access to our secure parent website where you will be able to see the names of all of the accommodations for the program.

Do most travelers go on their own?

Yes! In fact, over 75% of students who travel with us choose to come independently. This encourages teens to step further outside their comfort zone and make new friends. We believe that one of the most rewarding and exciting elements of travel is the new friendships that form along the way. When we travel by ourselves, we are bound to make new friends from all over the country and even the world. The best part is, you can travel again with your new friends on another TFT program the next summer!

If you are thinking about joining a TFT program by yourself but you are feeling unsure, please let us know! We have plenty of references from solo travelers who had great experiences and would be happy to chat with you about it.

Can I bring a friend?

Absolutely! We ask that if you do come with a friend, you and your friend(s) maintain openness to meeting new people and sharing this special experience with the entire group.

What do students like most about the South Africa Service & Safari trip?

Students love that the South Africa Service & Safari program takes them out of their comfort zones on an incredible journey through all the best parts of this gorgeous country. The vast range of experiences and sights gives travelers unparalleled nature and wildlife, incredible vistas of unbelievable locations, and a boatload of cultural experiences and activities. Students form close bonds with their fellow travelers and the locals that they meet on this unforgettable journey!

What is unique about the South Africa Service & Safari trip?

The community service component of the South Africa Service & Safari program is nothing short of captivating. The days are incredibly rewarding; working to improve the facilities of the local school for the appreciative children who you will form very strong bonds with as you interact with them each day. This is also one of our more adventurous programs that captures the best of this diverse and fascinating country.

What is included?

Tuition cost includes ground transportation; accommodation; chaperones and guides; program-related activities and admissions; taxes and tips; all breakfasts, 11 lunches, and dinners.

Not included in cost (this is not intended to be an exhaustive list) : airfare; lunches; visas and visa application fees; personal and medical expenses; activities and admissions that are not program-related or referenced in the itinerary; beverages other than filtered water at meals; participant expenses that are outside of the program description, such as excess baggage fees and damage to hotels; expenses related to unforeseen circumstances, such as transportation strikes and natural disasters.

How do the optional group flights work?

Upon registration, you will be contacted by our International Logistics Team to discuss the program’s flight details. There is no requirement to take the group flight, but there are several advantages to doing so. The group flight is usually chaperoned by a TFT staff member, and it also offers an opportunity for the students to get to know one another prior to the start of the program. Parents are responsible for coordinating transport to the departure airport – however, the logistics team will send out instructions detailing the exact meeting spot and airport point person. For additional information about flights, visit our dedicated flight page.

Who leads the program?

Our staff is a cut above the rest! We seek out two main characteristics in our counselors – extensive knowledge of and experience in our destinations, and a passion for working with teens. Our staff’s backgrounds include living abroad and working in summer camps or other educational settings. Team members are proven leaders and role models, who connect easily with others and form genuine friendships with each student – all while bringing each destination to life.

We celebrate diversity! Our staff represents 49 different nationalities, speak a combined total of 21 languages, and visited 142 countries. Additionally, 80% of our staff lived or worked abroad in their lives. With so many unique experiences to share, you are sure to gain a global perspective.

Our average minimum ratios are one staff member to every seven participants. Each program has one Trip Director with several support staff, depending on the group size. Directors must be at least 25 years old within the calendar year and have prior experience working with TFT.

What are the safety qualifications for our staff?

Our staff members undergo a rigorous hiring process. They receive the same background check as school educators, an extensive training process to go over all safety precautions and protocols, and are required to be certified in CPR and First Aid.  We exclusively hire responsible, multi-talented individuals who are safety-minded and are as passionate about teen travel as we are.

What is the average group size?

We pride ourselves on small group sizes to create a more authentic and personalized experience. Our group sizes fall between 13 and 24 students – the perfect size to facilitate new friendships without feeling lost in a crowd! We believe smaller groups eliminate the likelihood of cliques, and allows for a well-rounded, healthy group dynamic.

How does this program connect to other programs?

Our program dates are designed specifically so that participants can opt to combine trips throughout the summer.  When connecting to another program, your counselor will escort you to the airport on the last day of the program and assist you in meeting your next group at your new destination.

What is the food like on this program?

In a word – delicious! At TFT, we believe food should be an integral part of the travel experience and always make an effort to eat at authentic establishments when we can. What better way to immerse yourself in the culture of a place than by sampling the local delicacies, and we encourage students to do so whenever possible! Just as we stay away from Americanized hotel chains, we try to avoid restaurants with menus that cater only to tourists because every good traveler knows the best food is found wherever the locals are eating!

South African food is colorful, interesting and unlike anything you’ve tried before, it is also known as Rainbow Cuisine, due to the wide variety of multicultural influences including Dutch, French, Indian and Malay. Meat is an integral part of the food culture, highlighted by South Africans’ love of a good braai (barbecue). We will have the chance to enjoy a few traditional South African meals in a buffet style so that participants can try a lot of different local foods found nowhere else but here.

Of course, we are always willing and able to accommodate vegetarians, vegans, gluten allergies, and other dietary restrictions.

Do I need to bring anything special for the community service portion of the program?

Participants will need to bring a pair of work gloves as well as a set of clothes and a pair of close toed shoes that can get paint on them. All tools and materials will be provided to participants on site.

A more detailed packing list will be provided upon registration.

Do I need any vaccinations for this program?

We recommend checking with your family doctor regarding vaccinations and medical advice for the destination you are visiting. For more information, please check the World Health Organization’s website . Upon registration, we provide a list of recommended vaccinations that can be discussed further with your doctor. For Specific questions pertaining to the COVID-19 vaccine, click here .

What kind of visa do you need for this trip?

Any US citizen who enters South Africa is automatically granted a free 90-day tourist visa.

When joining a TFT trip from outside of the US, please be sure to check your country’s specific visa requirements.

Do I need to speak the language?

No, our skilled staff members will help you get around and even teach you a few fun phrases!

Service Programs

Putney Student Travel offers service programs abroad for high school and middle school students in numerous countries throughout Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the South Pacific. Putney service projects make a difference by building friendships and cultural understanding with people in our host communities through common purpose, hard work, accomplishment, and real human connections.

We do not subscribe to the colonialist view that we are providing knowledge, resources, or improvements to struggling people that, without our participation, they and their communities would not accomplish for themselves. With seven decades of experience in educational student travel under our belts, and three decades of summer service programs, we see service as a catalyst for true friendship and understanding that one would never otherwise gain.

Middle and high school students learn through collaborative and relevant community service projects in small, rural destination communities abroad. Each host community chooses volunteer projects that serve local needs.

Examples of Student Community Service Team Projects

  • Improve a school or community center
  • Repair housing for a low-income family
  • Develop lesson plans and tutor schoolchildren in English
  • Run a summer camp for local children

Through their service projects, students immerse themselves in their host community, learn new skills, and build friendships across cultural and linguistic boundaries. Every summer, Putney students return home changed by their experience abroad, discovering an important truth about service: In working alongside our hosts to improve communities, we gain as much as we give.

On both our middle and high school community service trips abroad, each student designs an independent project to engage in local life. Trip leaders offer guidance and support to help create a project tailored to the interests of the student, which you then share with the entire group at the end of the trip.

Examples of Student Independent Projects

  • Organize a sporting event
  • Learn to play a traditional instrument
  • Shadow a dairy farmer
  • Document a day in the life of a local teenager
  • Make repairs to the goal at the village soccer pitch
  • Interview farmers about the harvest
  • Organize a mural painting activity with local schoolchildren

Our student service programs extend beyond the local destination community to include opportunities for unique and authentic cultural experiences. Throughout your trip, take excursions from your host community to explore the cultural richness and scenic beauty of the region in which you’re based.

Examples of Excursions & Activities

  • Learn to surf in the Moroccan beach town of Essaouira
  • Ride horseback across the Andean altiplano in Peru
  • Snorkel with sea lions in the Galápagos Islands off of Ecuador
  • Visit a floating village in Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay
  • Walk with Maasai warriors across ancestral lands in Tanzania

We choose accomplished, responsible, and inspiring community service group leaders who bring a wealth of talent and wisdom to our student travel programs. Many hold multiple bachelor’s or advanced degrees in areas of study that have prepared them for community service leadership roles, including International Education, International Business, Industrial Design, Human Development, Intercultural Relations, Conservation Biology, Anthropology, Outdoor Recreation, and Religious Studies, to name a few. Many have experience working with youth and teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), and each is comfortable navigating the culture of the host country, with extensive experience in international living and travel.

In short, our incredible leaders are poised to help students get the most out of their summer community service experience and emerge with a deeper understanding of themselves and the world. Click here to meet our leaders.

To succeed on a Putney Student Travel community service program, you must be willing to work hard, be sensitive toward others, be excited to collaborate with your host community, and have the ability to live simply. Upon completion of your program, Putney awards a certificate recognizing 30-100 hours of community service abroad, depending on the program length and the work completed.

Community Impact

Putney groups work alongside local people and with respected community-based organizations, connecting through purposeful work and learning across cultures. Putney’s approach to Service is aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development goals to address poverty, hunger, and inequality through efforts in education, health, the environment, social and racial justice, and community development.

Ethical Service

Putney partners with host communities and trusted local contacts. Since developing our first Service programs in the early 1990s, our aim is always to develop long-term relationships. Projects are identified by working closely with the local governing body to assess the greatest need and potential for lasting and meaningful impact in the community.

Personal Growth

Putney Service students step out of their comfort zone, learn and practice cultural humility, examine their own beliefs, and reflect on their own cultures while learning about another. In doing so, they broaden their perspectives, explore their sense of purpose, and tap into their leadership potential to make positive change in their home communities.

“He gained global, cultural, and socioeconomic awareness, personal growth and development, a greater sense of purpose, and an ability to impact others by giving of his time and effort.”

Community Service Trips in Africa

Africa Expedition Support specialise in developing community service trips in Africa for schools and university groups that are educational, fun and rewarding. Over the years the team at Africa Expedition Support have worked tirelessly with several communities and local schools to seek out service opportunities that benefit everyone involved. Our service projects are more than just working in African communities. They provide opportunities to seek insight into village life in Africa and offer the chance to develop special bonds that overcome cultural and economic barriers.

Group photo is a must after completing our water catchment project in East Africa. This family has enough fresh water to last 6 months thanks to this school group!

A school group may have only a couple of weeks for community service trips in Africa and want to blend community service, working with local school children or building solar power systems, a few days on safari and maybe some beach time. We match your group request, timeframe, and skills with local opportunities to ensure the best possible community service experience to maximize development.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY…

Every detail of this trip was perfect: from our Swahili lessons, to the Napenda Solar project, incredible meals and exceptional safaris …It is a rarity in this day and age to find people who truly care about doing a job as well as it can be done, but you went above and beyond.   Jen a teacher with Greenwich Country Day School

Here are some of the projects we offer on community service trips in Africa :

Napenda Solar Community in Kenya

Give a home or school clean sustainable green electricity. Learn about solar power, how it works and the benefits before designing, building and installing a stand alone solar power system in a poor rural home or school. Find out more about Napenda Solar Community .

Building lion proof fences on a community service trip in Kenya

Protect Lions in Kenya

Together with the Born Free Foundation in Kenya work side by side local communities to construct lion proof fences around traditional Masai bomas (homesteads) to keep lions out and livestock in. This critical project helps to protect lions and guarantees their survival while living side by side human settlements.

Save Rhino in Uganda

Partnering with Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Uganda offers students a truly remarkable experience to be part of the team saving these critically endangered animals. Spend time with rangers documenting Rhino behaviour, support the anti-poaching team and assist in teaching local school children about wildlife conservation.

East Africa Clean Water Project

Water is precious. We all know that. Harvesting water in low rainfall areas is essential. We all know that. Over 80% of the population in East Africa do not have access to safe clean water. Be part of a lifesaving team working to reduce water-borne diseases by helping to install gutters and water tanks.

Building new desks for classrooms in East Africa

Refurbish a School in East Africa

As most schools lack electricity and funds to paint the walls to allow for decent lighting help lift the studying conditions by painting the internal walls to brighten the classrooms or help build new desks and tables so school kids can study in comfort without having to cram several onto the one desk or donate books and start a much needed library.

Sports Field Construction Community Service

Everyone loves a game of soccer so give a poor school the ideal gift of a football field, help level the land, mark out the field, dig trenches and mark the lines and help construct the goal posts.

Save the East African Environment

Help a school or local community fight erosion and give soil a new lease of life by supplying and planting indigenous trees. Due to lack of cooking fuels and electricity many communities have had no choice but to cut down trees to provide this in their homes. Work side by side communities to plant and help educate communities on environmental issues.

The trip was great value. The itinerary connected well with the community and had a significant impact providing experiences students will hold forever. The Project with the Born Free Foundation was one of the best projects I have seen.

The decision to bring a school group for community service trips in Africa is not one to be taken lightly. There are many factors to consider. Africa Expedition Support is based in Kenya. We have worked with school groups for many years. So we are in the perfect position to ensure your school trip goes ahead without a hitch.

Unique cultural experiences on our community service trips in Africa

In addition to running our own community service project for solar power, Napenda Solar Community, we realise that this is not always the perfect fit for every school or university group. So we still maintain strong bonds with Elders and school headmasters from other areas in East Africa. Together we work to identify areas of need and collect ideas for community service projects which are sustainable, achievable and economical within a local area.

Over the years we have taken hundreds of teenagers and young adults on a journey of discovery while working on community projects in Africa. These service programs provide life changing experiences to students and youth from all over the world.

Taking some time to immerse yourself in traditional tribal life on our community service trips in East Africa

To support your community service project, you may want to include things like Swahili lessons for your students and traditional meals with communities. These activities add to the richness of the experience.

We also believe there should be time to play. We will help you design community service itineraries that allow for adventure activities. It just would not be right to come to Africa and not go on safari for a few days or white water raft the Nile, chill on a tropical beach or hike to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro!

Africa Safari Trip: A Comprehensive Guide To Crafting Unforgettable Memories

H ave you witnessed a lion’s roar echo across the savanna or watched a herd of elephants lumber by? An Africa safari trip is an otherworldly experience, but where do you even begin? This guide will equip you with all the essentials to plan your unforgettable adventure . Even though it can seem overwhelming at times, if you’re equipped with the right guidance and information, the procedure is rather easy.

To help you plan the perfect safari tour in Africa, in addition to answering the majority of your frequently asked questions, we’re put together some of the greatest tips and useful suggestions.

Choosing the Location of Your African Safari Trip

An Africa safari trip promises an enchanted world of discovery, where each expedition and place holds the potential to reveal a captivating tale. Every area of this enormous continent, from the lush deltas of the south to the brilliant savannahs of the east, offers a different fabric of fauna and culture. This is more than just a journey—it’s an exploration of the core of nature, where opportunity abounds at every turn.

African safaris are unique among travel experiences because of the authentic, natural spectacle of the wild. These excursions aim to fully immerse you in the world of animals, not just observe them. Planning your destination is among the most crucial aspects of preparation for any holiday, including this one. Africa is vast, so it’d be helpful to start with a “where to go on an Africa safari trip” Google search if you have no idea what to do.

To select the ideal safari destination, you must consider the things you wish to see. Are there any specific animals or cultural events you would like to see? Kenya and Tanzania from July to October are your best choices if you’ve always wanted to see the Great Wildebeest Migration. Visit either Botswana or South Africa to see a huge herd of African elephants throughout the year.

In East Africa and the majority of Southern African nations, the “Big Five” are also widely distributed. Travel to Uganda, Rwanda or the Congo for gorilla trekking; these countries are all in Central Africa. If you want to see chimpanzees on your Africa safari tour, Uganda is the ideal place to do it.

Top 5 Choice Destinations for Your Africa Safari Trip

Here are our top five African wildlife safari destinations to help you plan your trip.

Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve

At the Maasai Mara Reserves, the Big Five roam free, and boundless plains extend into the horizon on a wildlife safari. Traveling off-road and appreciating the lack of fences and lodging at any of the Mara conservation areas allows you to experience the breathtaking sight of countless wildebeests roaring across the East African savanna around the Great Migration.

From open safari vehicles, watch as lions hunt their prey with unparalleled subtlety. Elephants socialize within their close-knit groups, and elegant giraffes peruse acacia trees with grace. A fascinating insight into the Maasai people’s dynamic local culture, which is entwined with the land, its profusion of wildlife, and the natural beauties of the wildness itself, is provided by Maasai Mara.

Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park

Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park is home to a large environment that is brimming with life. See the boundless plains packed with antelopes, zebras, and wildebeests as they migrate in a never-ending dance of survival throughout your Africa safari trip. It’s what you anticipate seeing on game drives following your viewing of National Geographic or PBS programs. You might be amazed watching the big cats lounging in the shade following a good hunt, or you might experience the exhilaration of seeing a cheetah racing across the landscape in a flurry of speed.

There are other methods to observe wildlife, such as taking a hot-air balloon flight across the savanna for breath-inspiring, all-encompassing views of this iconic African terrain. Seasonality is essential when thinking about visiting the Serengeti; never schedule an unplanned online vacation.

Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park

You can feel the African wilderness in Zambia, not just see it. In contrast to safaris that are limited to metal enclosures, South Luangwa encourages you to stroll among the animals rather than drive by them. Imagine your heart racing as you make your way through verdant riverine forests full of leopards hiding in their disguises, only to be astounded by vast herds of buffalo crossing wide-open savannas.

As you approach elephants bathing, listen to the Luangwa River’s rushing waters, which will lead you to the echoes of night safaris. You can unwind in the unexpected comfort of fly tents or treehouse retreats when the stars adorn the sky.

South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park

You can journey across acacia woodlands and tour places with sun-filled savannas along the rushing waters of the Sabi River in South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park. Hear the echoes of prehistoric existence and see the exhilarating dance of adventures amidst the rare species. Renowned for its almost assured Big Five meetings, you get to experience the exhilarating thrill of seeing elephants trumpeting by a waterhole or lions relaxing in golden light—you don’t have to imagine it.

There is more to Kruger’s artistry than the Big Five. Higher populations of predators and a more varied array of species can be found in the superb private game reserves found in the Greater Kruger National Park. Wander along the river where crocodiles and hippos sunbathe before becoming lost in the rainbow of more than 500 different bird species.

Botswana’s Okavango Delta

Emerald islands emerge from the reflecting waters of the spreading waterways of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A mokoro is a native dugout canoe in which you may sail softly and intimately while spotting sleeping hippos afar and thirsty elephants sipping at the riverbanks .

Search among the trees for one of the greatest spots to see leopards or take in the aerial views of storks, eagles, and pelicans.

In such a distant location, the Okavango Delta boasts one of the largest concentrations of upscale safari resorts in Southern Africa, providing you with exclusive access to convenience and uncrowded rivers for a singular embrace of unspoiled wildlife.

Tips For An Outstanding African Safari Adventure

The foundation of a great African safari is effective communication. It makes sure you get the best possible experience out of your trip by bridging the gap between what you expect and the actual conditions of the environment. There are three communication techniques to help you receive the experience you want by interacting with an Africa safari trip guide or travel advisor .

Clearly state your demands and desires. Tell us about your ideal speed, cultural attractions, the wildlife you hope to see, and any unique interests you may have, such as birdwatching or photography. This enables your guide to customize your safari adventures based on your interests and budget. Mention any possible restrictions. Any physical restrictions or sensitivity should be disclosed to your guide to guarantee a fun and safe trip.

Pose inquiries. Never be afraid to ask questions about anything that piques your curiosity, be it local customs or the behavior of animals. Your guide holds a wealth of information that is just waiting to be discovered.

African safaris are an ode to the diversity and grandeur of nature. Every excursion offers a chance for a profound and intimate connection with nature. However, in a world full of breathtaking locations, the real art of travel is in how you take in each one. Each destination has a spirit of its own, and you can make transforming vacation experiences with the correct itinerary in addition to ones that are simply memorable.

Whether you’re traveling to the wild African savannahs or the charming countryside of Tuscany, creating a one-of-a-kind, dreamlike trip requires careful planning and vital information. It all comes down to creating a seamless, stress-free, and uniquely personalized tapestry of memories.

People Also Ask

How far should my Africa safari trip be scheduled? It’s advisable to make reservations eight to twelve months in advance of when you wish to go or depart for your selected African safari location. Enough time guarantees availability and your place at the top of the line for the most desirable experiences that Africa presents. It is always better to schedule your safari trip earlier than undergo a last-minute rush.

When is the ideal time to go on an Africa safari trip? The dry season, which runs from June to October, is the ideal time to go on a safari. Since it’s a warmer period of the year, there’s a greater chance that you’ll spot creatures looking for water. You can also witness the famous Masai Mara migration during these months.

Bella Hadid Wears the Naked Dress to End All Naked Dresses

By Hannah Jackson

Anthony Vaccarello finally figured out how to reproduce his collection of ultra-sheer pantyhose dresses. Bella Hadid hit Cannes in look seven from the Saint Laurent fall 2024 show: a halter dress featuring 10 denier hosiery cups, a knotted pantyhose bodice, and a below-the-knee skirt with a control top hemline.

Image may contain Bella Hadid Person Standing Fashion Adult Clothing Footwear High Heel Shoe Dress and Accessories

Hadid, styled by Molly Dickson, leaned into the Old Hollywood glamour that has become synonymous with the Cannes Film Festival, adding a pair of mahogany peep-toe ankle strap heels and an enormous pair of drop earrings from Chopard.

Image may contain Bella Hadid Clothing Formal Wear Suit Person Adult Footwear Shoe Accessories Glasses and Dress

This look fits into Hadid’s latest sartorial M.O. of sheer earthy tones that can only be described as “sexy nymph.” While promoting her fragrance, Orebella, in New York, the model wore a diaphanous nude Dior slip dress by John Galliano, as well as a cream-colored Rokh dress with a lace bodice. And yesterday in Cannes, she further explored brown tones in a simple tank dress . But this look—with only some extremely well-placed seams preserving her modesty—is by far her boldest to date.

When asked about how he would manufacture these ephemeral pieces from the collection, Vaccarello told Vogue, “Don’t even ask me about production—I can’t tell you.” This being the first instance the delicate outfits have been spotted on the red carpet speaks to Hadid’s risk-taking style. Even if she is the only person who ever wears one of these sheer Saint Laurent looks out in the world (let’s see if she can make it to the end of the night without any snags) the fact that Vaccarello was readily willing to make one for her speaks to Hadid’s immense power in the fashion industry.

And if this is Hadid’s wardrobe for her first official day of events in Cannes? We can only imagine what’s to come.

Jury rules NFL violated antitrust laws in ‘Sunday Ticket’ case and awards $4.7 billion in damages

FILE - The NFL logo is seen during the NFL Super Bowl 58 football game Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024,...

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A jury in U.S. District Court ordered the NFL to pay nearly $4.8 billion in damages Thursday after ruling that the league violated antitrust laws in distributing out-of-market Sunday afternoon games on a premium subscription service.

The jury awarded $4.7 billion in damages to the residential class and $96 million in damages to the commercial class. Since damages can be tripled under federal antitrust laws, the NFL could end up being liable for $14.39 billion.

The lawsuit covered 2.4 million residential subscribers and 48,000 businesses in the United States who paid for the package of out-of-market games from the 2011 through 2022 seasons on DirecTV. The lawsuit claimed the league broke antitrust laws by selling its package of Sunday games at an inflated price. The subscribers also say the league restricted competition by offering “Sunday Ticket” only on a satellite provider.

The NFL said it would appeal the verdict. That appeal would go to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and then possibly the Supreme Court.

Should the NFL end up paying damages, it could cost each of the 32 teams approximately $449.6 million.

“We are disappointed with the jury’s verdict today in the NFL Sunday Ticket class action lawsuit,” the league said in a statement. “We continue to believe that our media distribution strategy, which features all NFL games broadcast on free over-the-air television in the markets of the participating teams and national distribution of our most popular games, supplemented by many additional choices including RedZone, Sunday Ticket and NFL+, is by far the most fan friendly distribution model in all of sports and entertainment.

“We will certainly contest this decision as we believe that the class action claims in this case are baseless and without merit.”

The trial lasted three weeks and featured testimony from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

“Justice was done. The verdict upholds protection for the consumers in our class. It was a great day for consumers,” plaintiffs attorney Bill Carmody said.

During his closing remarks,  Carmody showed an April, 2017, NFL memo  that showed the league was exploring a world without “Sunday Ticket” in 2017, where cable channels would air Sunday afternoon out-of-market games not shown on Fox or CBS.

The jury of five men and three women deliberated for nearly five hours before reaching its decision.

Judge Philip S. Gutierrez is scheduled to hear post-trial motions on July 31, including the NFL’s request to have him rule in favor of the league because the judge determined the plaintiffs did not prove their case.

Payment of damages, any changes to the “Sunday Ticket” package and/or the ways the NFL carries its Sunday afternoon games would be stayed until all appeals have been concluded.

The league maintained it had the right to sell “Sunday Ticket” under its antitrust exemption for broadcasting. The plaintiffs said that only covers over-the-air broadcasts and not pay TV.

Other professional sports leagues were also keeping an eye on this case since they also offer out-of-market packages. A major difference though is that MLB, the NBA and the NHL market their packages on multiple distributors and share in the revenue per subscriber instead of receiving an outright rights fee.

DirecTV had “Sunday Ticket” from its inception in 1994 through 2022. The league signed a seven-year deal with Google’s YouTube TV that began with the 2023 season.

The lawsuit was originally filed in 2015 by the Mucky Duck sports bar in San Francisco but was dismissed in 2017. Two years later, the 9th Circuit, which has jurisdiction over California and eight other states, reinstated the case. Gutierrez ruled last year the case could proceed as a class action.
