One of the best concerts I’ve been to in my entire life, Alanis’s jagged Little pill was the soundtrack to my childhood and early teens, it was so emotionally and spiritually fulfilling to be in her presence along with thousands of other singing our hearts out to every word of her songs it was an incredible night that I will never forget

Saw her in Amsterdam for the acoustic version of Jagged little pill. I have always been a fan, but I had no idea how amazing her voice is in a small intimate setting, even sometimes surpassing the studio versions. All I can say it was amazing.

Second time seeing Alanis live and wow, I was blown away. She's just phenomenal. No words to describe this show. She sang acoustic versions of the full Jagged Little Pill plus a few songs from her other albums. Can't wait to see her in London again this September.

Alanis Morissette shares UK/Ireland tour dates, releases new song ‘Olive Branch’

Morissette is holding delayed 25th anniversary celebrations of 'jagged little pill'.

Alanis Morissette has announced rescheduled dates for her UK and Ireland tour in celebration of the 25th anniversary of ‘Jagged Little Pill’.

The Canadian singer-songwriter has also released a new song called ‘Olive Branch’ via RCA Records UK, which you can listen to further below. It was co-written by Morissette and Michael Farrell, and produced by Michael Farrell and Henrik Jakobsson.

News of Morissette’s UK and Ireland tour comes after the dates were postponed several times during the COVID-19 pandemic. The shows were originally due to take place in the autumn of 2020 but were moved to October 2021 and then to November 2021 before being cancelled again.

Last October, Morissette wrote on Twitter: “Stay tuned for the rescheduled dates (coming very soon), and please hold onto your tickets as they will be valid for the new ones. I can’t wait to see you each as soon as we possibly can.”

Beth Orton will support the singer on the rescheduled dates – see below.

Alanis Morissette UK and Ireland tour dates 2022:

JUNE 19 – Glasgow, UK – OVO HYDRO 21 – Dublin, Ireland – 3Arena 23 – Birmingham, UK – United Arena 24 – Leeds, UK – First Direct Arena 25 – Manchester, UK – Manchester Arena 28 – London, UK – The 02 29 – London, UK – The 02 For tickets and more information, head here .

Elsewhere, it was reported last November that Morissette is to develop a single-camera sitcom that will be inspired by her life.

The show, titled ‘Relatable’, is being worked on by the singer with US network ABC. She will serve as executive producer and will also write original music for the show.

Per NME , ‘Relatable’ will follow a married mother in her 40s who spent her younger years as a rock star and symbol of female independence. But her past life sits at odds with bringing up her children and trying to keep her household in order.

The show is inspired by Morissette’s fame and family, however the characters are fictional and non-biographical.

Alanis Morissette

You oughta know … that Alanis Morissette is hitting the road this year. The seven-time Grammy winner unveiled the North American and European dates for her Jagged Little Pill  anniversary tour Tuesday (March 8). The new dates are a continuation of her 2021 trek celebrating the 25th anniversary of her breakthrough album.

Alanis Morissette

See latest videos, charts and news

Morissette’s 1995 hit record Jagged Little Pill skyrocketed the now 47-year-old to rock ‘n’ roll icon status. The album reigned at No. 1 for 12 weeks on the Billboard 200, and at age 21, she became the youngest artist at the time to take home album of the year at the Grammys in 1996. That type of global success means there’s much to celebrate — which is exactly what Morissette plans to do starting June 9 in Copenhagen. Joined by Beth Orton , the tour will spend the month setting up shop at venues in the U.K., Netherlands, France, Ireland and Germany.

Rock band Garbage will then swap in as special guests for the North American leg of the tour, with Morissette making several stops in Canada before weaving her way across the United States. Garbage also joined the “Thank U” singer on last year’s expedition, which concluded its U.S. leg with two nights at the Hollywood Bowl. Billboard  attended the tour’s second evening at the venue, where Morissette put on display her powerful, “crystal-clear” vocals and tendency of updating lyrics to fit life as she knows it in the 2020s.

Trending on Billboard

Though audiences can almost certainly expect Morissette to perform the Jagged Little Pill  hits such as “You Oughta Know” and “Hand in My Pocket” that made her a household name, there’s likely to be at least one new piece of music to sing along to. Morissette’s tour announcement comes just before her new song “Olive Branch” arrives this Friday (March 11).

Tickets for the newly announced tour dates go on sale on her website on Friday, starting at 10 a.m. local time. See her announcement at the tour dates below:

Alanis Morissette is embarking on a massive 2024 tour with special guests Morgan Wade and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts.

The 49-year-old “Ironic” singer made the announcement on her Instagram Story on Thursday (9 November), writing that she has “been teeming to share this news”.

Beginning on 9 June in Phoenix, Arizona, Morisette will take off across North America on her 33-date The Triple Moon Tour. She will make stops in several major US cities, including Houston, Texas; Nashville, Tennessee; Cincinnati, Ohio and Portland, Oregon, before wrapping up in Inglewood, California on 10 August.

It is currently unknown whether she will add on more dates.

Morisette will appear on stage with Jett, 65, and her band that she formed in 1980 with her producing and songwriting partner Kenny Laguna. Its current members include guitarist Dougie Needles, bass player Hal B Selzer and drummer Michael McDermott.

American country singer Wade, 28, will also feature.

Fans can sign up for the rocker’s mailing list by Wednesday (14 November) to gain access to pre-sale tickets beginning on Thursday (15 November) at 10am local time.

General sale opens on Friday (16 November) at 10a local time.

The Triple Moon Tour comes nearly three years after Morisette’s 2021 tour, which was in celebration of the 25th anniversary of her hit 1995 album Jagged Little Pill.

During that tour, she performed at several locations across North America and Europe.

Morissette’s 2022 album, The Storm Before the Calm , is her latest record release, which followed her 2020 albums Such Pretty Forks in the Mix and Jagged Little Pill (25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition).

One of her greatest hits – “You Oughta Know” – from her original 1995 album has long been rumoured to be about her ex-boyfriend, Full House star Dave Coulier, whom she dated in the Nineties.

During a SiriusXM interview last year, Coulier recalled his reaction to hearing Morisette’s single for the first time .

“I’m driving in Detroit and I’ve got my radio on and I hear the hook for ‘You Oughta Know’ come on the radio and I’m like, ‘Wow, this is a really cool hook,” he told radio hosts Jim Norton and Sam Roberts.

He continued: “Then I start hearing the voice and I’m like, ‘Wow this girl can sing!’ And I had no idea this was the record.

“And then, I was listening to the lyrics, going, ‘Ooooh, oh. Ooh nooo! Oh I can’t be this guy!’” he said.

ABOUT JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS

Joan Jett grew up during a time when rock ‘n’ roll was off limits to girls and women, but as a teenager, she promptly blew the door to the boys’ club right off its hinges. After forming her band the Blackhearts in 1979, with whom Jett has become a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, she has had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics “Bad Reputation,” “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” and “Crimson and Clover.” With a career that has spanned music, film, television, Broadway, and humanitarianism, Joan Jett remains a potent force and inspiration to generations of fans worldwide. As a producer, she has overseen seminal albums by Bikini Kill, and the Germs’ LA punk masterpiece ‘GI.’ Jett and Kenny Laguna (her longtime producer and music partner) co-founded Blackheart Records from the trunk of Kenny’s Cadillac after rejections from no less than 23 labels. 40 years later, Blackheart is a thriving entertainment company producing music, film and television, and continues to champion emerging bands. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts continue to tour the world with headlining shows alongside fellow rock legends like The Who, Green Day, Heart, and Foo Fighters. ‘Bad Reputation,’ a documentary about Jett’s life, premiered to critical acclaim at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Following up on the bands 2022 release Changeup, their first-ever acoustic album, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts EP Mindsets will be a RSD First vinyl release on 11/24. Mindsets is available to stream now.  For more information visit www.joanjett.com.

ABOUT MORGAN WADE

One of Nashville’s fastest-rising and most critically acclaimed young stars, Morgan Wade released her much-anticipated sophomore album, Psychopath , Aug. 25 via Sony Music Nashville. Possessed with a raw and unflinching voice anchored by a perfect tinge of twang; the rare ability to pen honest portraits of some of life’s most precious and painful and unpredictable moments; and an onstage vulnerability that so seamlessly breaks down the wall between fan and artist, Wade has quickly made her mark on the country music scene — and the music world at large. Her stunning 2021 debut album, Reckless , was hailed as a critical triumph; it topped Rolling Stone ’s Best Country and Americana Albums of 2021, with New York Times noting Wade “sounds like she’s singing from the depths of history.” In 2022, Wade was nominated as the Emerging Act of the Year at the Americana Music Honors & Awards; in 2023, Wade was nominated for New Female Artist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music and performed at major-market festivals including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.

While Reckless , and particularly its momentous lead single “Wilder Days,” busted down the doors and introduced Wade to a wider listenership, Psychopath is an astounding follow-up statement: the 13-track LP was crafted with the help of some of Nashville’s most extraordinary musical talents, from A-list songwriters (Julia Michaels, Natalie Hemby, Liz Rose, Lori McKenna) to studio musicians as well as Wade’s longtime producer Sadler Vaden. Most excitingly, Psychopath finds Wade peeling back layers of her psyche like never before. “I realized the more authentic you are and the more you pour yourself into your songs, and most importantly if you’re being honest, people will connect to that,” Wade says.  “I want every song to get the credit it deserves.”

Watch: AC/DC Performs In Vienna During Spring/Summer 2024 'Power Up' European Tour

Fan-filmed video of AC/DC 's June 23 concert at Ernst Happel Stadion, Vienna, Austria can be seen below.

The setlist for the show was as follows, according to Setlist.fm :

01. If You Want Blood (You've Got It) 02. Back In Black 03. Demon Fire 04. Shot Down In Flames 05. Thunderstruck 06. Have A Drink On Me 07. Hells Bells 08. Shot In The Dark 09. Stiff Upper Lip 10. Shoot To Thrill 11. Sin City 12. Rock 'N' Roll Train 13. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap 14. High Voltage 15. Riff Raff 16. You Shook Me All Night Long 17. Highway To Hell 18. Whole Lotta Rosie 19. Let There Be Rock

20. T.N.T. 21. For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)

The "Power Up" European tour marks AC/DC 's first with the band's new touring lineup consisting of singer Brian Johnson , guitarists Angus and Stevie Young , drummer Matt Laug and the latest addition to the group's touring lineup, bassist Chris Chaney .

The 24-date trek will run through August. The trek will hit Germany, Austria and Switzerland before landing at London's Wembley Stadium for a pair of shows on July 3 and 7, then moving on to Germany, Slovakia and Paris and winding down at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland. The European tour is the first run of gigs since AC/DC 's return to the stage at last year's rock Power Trip festival in Indio, California.

AC/DC 's last tour took place in 2015 and 2016 and had a $180 million gross, with 2,310,061 sold tickets reported to the Pollstar box office.

Laug is an American drummer who has played with many bands/artists such as Alanis Morissette , Alice Cooper , SLASH'S SNAKEPIT and Vasco Rossi . Matt moved to Los Angeles after graduating from South Florence High School in 1986 and after attending college in L.A., Matt became a sought-after studio drummer.

In 2001, Laug supported AC/DC as part of SLASH'S SNAKEPIT on the North American and European legs of the "Stiff Upper Lip" tour.

In its announcement about Laug 's addition to the band's Power Trip lineup, AC/DC offered no explanation for the absence of the band's longtime drummer Phil Rudd , who rejoined AC/DC for the recording of the group's comeback album, "Power Up" , which came out in November 2020.

Rudd was ousted from AC/DC when he was sentenced to eight months of home detention by a New Zealand court in 2015 after pleading guilty to charges of threatening to kill and drug possession. He was replaced on the band's "Rock Or Bust" tour by Chris Slade , who had previously served as AC/DC 's drummer between 1989 and 1994, playing on the album "The Razor's Edge" .

Rudd , who appeared on all but three of AC/DC 's 18 previous studio albums, toured in support of his 2014 solo debut, "Head Job" . It was the release of that album that led indirectly to Rudd 's arrest, with the drummer allegedly so angry at a personal assistant over the way the record was promoted that he threatened to have the man and his daughter killed.

AC/DC postponed the last 10 dates of its spring 2016 North American trek after Johnson was advised to stop playing live or "risk total hearing loss." The band went on to complete the European and North American legs of its "Rock Or Bust" tour with GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose as a "guest vocalist." At the time, Johnson had been AC/DC 's singer for 36 years, ever since replacing the late Bon Scott in 1980 and making his debut on the classic "Back In Black" album.

To enable him to perform live with AC/DC again, the now-76-year-old Johnson worked with audio expert Stephen Ambrose , who said he could help resolve the singer's hearing problems.

Ambrose , who invented the wireless in-ear monitors that are widely used by touring artists today, claimed to have invented a new type of ear-bud that would allow Johnson to perform without causing further damage to his eardrums. After three years of experimenting and "miniaturizing" the equipment, Johnson previously said the technology could allow him to tour again.

Chaney is best known as the bassist of JANE'S ADDICTION and as a member of Alanis Morissette 's touring and recording band. Chaney was also a member of TAYLOR HAWKINS AND THE COATTAIL RIDERS and CAMP FREDDY , as well as being a prolific and versatile session musician, having played with artists including Joe Cocker , Shakira , Slash and Avril Lavigne to Sara Bareilles , Gavin Degraw , Cher , SHINEDOWN and Celine Dion . Chaney is also a founding member and partner in the all-star supergroup ROYAL MACHINES along with Dave Navarro ( JANE'S ADDICTION ), Mark McGrath ( SUGAR RAY ), Josh Freese ( FOO FIGHTERS ) and Billy Morrison ( BILLY IDOL ).

Bassist Cliff Williams announced his retirement at the end of AC/DC 's 2015-2016 "Rock Or Bust" tour, which also saw Johnson leaving. However, Williams — and Johnson — took part in the recording sessions that resulted in "Power Up" . Both of them were also part of the AC/DC lineup that performed at Power Trip .

During an October 2020 interview with Dean Delray 's "Let There Be Talk" podcast, Cliff was asked if Johnson 's departure from the road was what led to his desire to stop touring. Cliff responded: "It was before then. I spoke to Angus about it initially. I was at a point — and this is at the beginning of the 'Rock Or Bust' tour — that I just felt, for me, it was time to hang it up. I knew that I didn't wanna keep doing these two-year tours, and I didn't wanna hold them back, so I made them aware of the fact that this was gonna be my last go-round. It was a tough tour to finish. God bless Axl for coming in and helping us out, finish it up. He did a great job. And at the end of that, I was definitely — that was it for me. Done — just done. That compounded the whole thing."

According to Williams , he wanted to take part in the recording sessions for "Power Up" as a tribute to Angus 's late brother, founding AC/DC rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young , who died in 2017 from effects of dementia at age 64. Malcolm is credited as a writer on all 12 tracks on "Power Up" .

"If 'Back In Black' has [late AC/DC singer] Bon Scott all over it, for me, 'Power Up' has got Malcolm Young ," Cliff said. "This is for him. And it's the band that we played together with for 40-plus years. And I wanted to do that — I wanted to come back and do that.

"We did some rehearsals earlier [in 2020] before this darn COVID thing popped up, and we had great rehearsals," he continued. "The band was playing really well. So [they asked me], 'Do you wanna do a few shows? 'Sure'. A few shows. We were planning on doing that. Everyone goes home to their respective homes, and bang, we've been here ever since [because of the coronavirus-related shutdown]."

Cliff went on to confirm that his commitment to AC/DC was only for "a few" dates in support of "Power Up" .

"For both [my mental and physical] health," he said. "I definitely have some physical issues, which I won't bore you with the details of. But, yeah, it's tough. I'm very grateful for everything. It's been fantastic. But I just don't wanna do that anymore."

Williams previously revealed that a "terrible" bout with vertigo contributed to his 2016 retirement. He also admitted the return of both Johnson and drummer Phil Rudd convinced him to rejoin the group. "It was like the old band back together," he told Rolling Stone . "It was not like starting over again, but as close to the band that's been together for 40-plus years as we can possibly make it. I didn't want to miss that."

The follow-up to 2014's "Rock Or Bust" , "Power Up" was recorded over a six-week period in August and September 2018 at Warehouse Studios in Vancouver with producer Brendan O'Brien , who also worked 2008's "Black Ice" and "Rock Or Bust" .

Watch Alanis Morissette sing national anthems at Stanley Cup final, team up with daughter for ‘Ironic’

She is currently in the middle of a tour with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

Alanis Morissette

Alanis Morissette sang the Canadian and US national anthems at the Stanley Cup final last night (June 24).

The Canadian singer-songwriter performed renditions of ‘O Canada’ and ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ ahead of Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers’ NHL showdown. You can view footage of both below.

The Panthers went on to beat the Oilers 2-1 in Florida to take the series after seven matches. It was their first championship win.

Her performance came after Morissette’s daughter, Onyx, celebrated her eighth birthday by joining her mother on stage to sing her classic hit ‘Ironic’ in Nashville on Sunday night (June 23).

Introducing Onyx onstage at the Bridgestone Arena, Morissette led the crowd in singing ‘Happy Birthday’.

The pair then joined forces to sing ‘Ironic’. Following the performance, which you can view below, the singer-songwriter posted on Instagram: “Birthday angel girl moment singing ironic together i love you so much onyx you are my dream daughter.”

Morissette is currently in the middle of her ‘Triple Moon Tour’ , with special guest Joan Jett and the Blackhearts which is due to wrap in August.

She will next perform at the PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte tonight (June 26). Any remaining tickets can be purchased here .

Elsewhere, Morissette recently discovered that her great-uncles – Gyorgy and Sandor Feuerstein – died in the Holocaust .

The singer-songwriter was also aware that her grandfather, Imre Feuerstein of Hungarian and Jewish decent, was a Holocaust survivor and relocated his family – including Morissette’s then-six-year-old mother – from the Soviet Union to Ontario, Canada in 1953.

Speaking about what her ancestors had gone through, she said: “There’s just so much intense stuff happening. You think about their resilience and their ability to keep going in the face of tragedy, it’s pretty poignant.”

Pop & Rock

FRESH “Merch Girl,” the latest EP from these snarling, melodic London pogo-punks, pairs its pealing, scene-sexism-prodding title track with a yearning cover of Linda Ronstadt’s bummed-out 1970 cut “Long Long Time.” July 5, 7 p.m. Deep Cuts, Medford. 781-219-3815, deepcuts.rocks

ODDISEE & GOOD COMPNY The omnivorous MC and producer, who released the wide-ranging, groove-forward “And Yet Still” in May, performs alongside the band he assembled to replicate his intricate sonic creations. July 7, 7:30 p.m. City Winery Boston. 617-933-8047, citywinery.com/boston

ALANIS MORISSETTE: THE TRIPLE MOON TOUR Next summer marks the 30-year anniversary of “Jagged Little Pill,” this Canada-born singer-songwriter’s sonically polished yet emotionally raw breakthrough album; tracks like the world-weary “You Learn” and the cathartic “You Oughta Know” still crackle with white-hot feeling, as do her later cuts like the haunting “Uninvited” and the withering “Hands Clean.” July 9, 7 p.m. Xfinity Center, Mansfield. 800-745-3000, livenation.com

LAUREN WATKINS Watkins has just released her full-length debut, “The Heartbroken Record,” and even with the usual mainstream production values very much in evidence, it still sounds like a country record, one inhabiting the same neighborhood as, say, Kacey Musgraves (a few albums ago) or Ashley Monroe (one of the record’s guest artists). Find out how Watkins sounds live in Worcester this Friday. July 5, 8 p.m. $15. Off the Rails, 90 Commercial St., Worcester. 866-468-3399. www.ticketweb.com

J.M. CLIFFORD Rising Brooklyn-based bluegrass artist J.M. Clifford comes to Bluegrass Tuesdays at this Cambridge fowl establishment on the heels of a new release, “Trains, Thinkin’ and Drinkin’,” which, as its title implies, puts a bit of cogitating in among those trad topics. It also includes a cover of noted ‘grasser Harry Styles’s “As It Was.” July 9, 7 p.m. No cover. Lily P’s, 50 Binney St., Cambridge. www.bluegrasstuesdays.com

On Sunday, soprano Renée Fleming joins the BSO for an all-Strauss afternoon: the program includes selections from “Intermezzo” and “Der Rosenkavalier” as well as songs with orchestra (July 7). ROCKPORT MUSIC The Rockport Chamber Music Festival puts a bow on its homestand with one concert by local favorite A Far Cry (July 5), a visit from the award-winning British a cappella group The King’s Singers (July 6), and a closing-night celebration of whimsical sextets by Poulenc and Dohnányi (July 7), featuring performances by artistic director/violist Barry Shiffman and several guest musicians. A.Z. MADONNA

A TENDER THING Playwright Ben Power uses Shakespeare’s words while rearranging scenes to imagine what life might have been like for Romeo and Juliet had they dodged disaster and lived on together. Candy Buckley and Derek Smith star as the star-crossed lovers. Through July 20. St. Germain Stage. Barrington Stage Company, Pittsfield. https://barringtonstageco.org/2024-season/

CRAZY FOR YOU This zany musical comedy follows a city slicker who falls for a small-town gal and features such Gershwin classics as “I’ve Got Rhythm,” “Embraceable You,” and “Someone to Watch Over Me,” but the real joy is in the ebullient tap dancing. Sally Struthers (“All in the Family”) joins the company in this summer extravaganza. Through July 13. At the Ogunquit Playhouse, Ogunquit, Maine. www.ogunquitplayhouse.org/2024-crazy-for-you

GATSBY This world premiere is a haunting production that finds a perfect match in the soaring, soulful music of Florence Welch (of Florence + the Machine) and Thomas Bartlett, a book by Martyna Majok (“The Cost of Living”), and choreography by Sonya Tayeh (“Moulin Rouge”). Under the seamless direction of Rachel Chavkin (“Hadestown”), this story moves with the unrelenting rhythms of the ocean currents that so fascinated Nick Carraway, the story’s narrator. All of the performers combine glorious voices with impeccable dance skills and detailed characterizations. But the real gift of this creative team is their ability to bring together a stunningly talented ensemble to breathe life, and even some unexpected insights, into these characters. Through Aug. 3. Presented by the American Repertory Theater, Loeb Drama Center. https://americanrepertorytheater.org/shows-events/gatsby/

TERRY BYRNE

THE COMEDY OF ERRORS An outdoor setting lends itself to the zany antics of William Shakespeare’s early farce, complete with not one but two sets of twins separated in a shipwreck, and fast-paced physical comedy framed by the Bard’s blank verse. Last summer’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at Shakespeare & Company felt like a party as much as a play. Let’s see what director Kate Kohler Amory brings to the fun. July 13-Aug. 18. Arthur S. Waldstein Amphitheatre, Shakespeare & Company, Lenox. shakespeare.org

WIPEOUT Boston favorites Karen MacDonald and Cheryl D. Singleton star in the world premiere of Aurora Real de Asua’s exploration of life’s ebbs and flows, set on the water when three friends in their 70s learn to surf. July 5-28. At Gloucester Stage Company. https://gloucesterstage.com/wipeout/

BOB ABELMAN

BALLET DU GRAND THÉÂTRE DE GENÈVE One of Europe’s most celebrated companies returns to Jacob’s Pillow for the first time in more than a decade. Now under the artistic direction of firebrand choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, the company’s superb, classically trained dancers put their skills to the service of his edgy contemporary work, including the US premiere of “Noetic” and his riveting “Faun,” inspired by Claude Debussy’s “Prelude a l’après-midi d’un faune.” July 11-14. $58.50-$95. Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Becket. www.jacobspillow.org

UNITED FLAMENCO ARTS SOCIETY The organization aims to promote the art of flamenco by bringing together students, enthusiasts, rising artists, and professionals from around the globe. This coming week, they bring together nine rising dancers, singers, and instrumentalists for a residency intensive at Windhover. The residency culminates in two outdoor performances presented in the traditional “tablao” style characterized by creative spontaneity and improvisatory interplay. July 6-7. $25. Windhover Center for the Performing Arts, Rockport. https://windhover.org

LA MEZCLA The San Francisco-based dance and music ensemble brings its vibrant colors and engaging rhythms to The Yard for a series of events over the week. With a social justice bent and rooted in the traditions of Chicana, Latina, and Indigenous cultures, the company embraces tap dance, Son Jarocho, and Afro-Caribbean rhythms, as well as video and spoken word, to enliven histories and experiences of communities of color. The finale of the troupe’s residency is a performance of “Ghostly Labor,” evoking the history of labor and resistance along the US/Mexico border. July 12. $18-$58. Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center, Oak Bluffs. www.dancetheyard.org/lamezcla

MOBBALLET The name stands for “Memoirs of Blacks in Ballet,” and under founder Theresa Ruth Howard’s Pathways to Performance Choreographic Project, the company’s engagement showcases ballet works choregraphed by emerging as well as leading Black choreographers, including Donald Byrd and Jennifer Archibald. Performances on the outdoor Henry J. Leir stage feature a cast of 15 international artists from leading companies across the US. July 10-11. $40-$50. Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Becket. www.jacobspillow.org

KAREN CAMPBELL

JAMIE WYETH: UNSETTLED The third generation of a storied American painting lineage (father Andrew and grandfather N.C. are established icons), Jamie Wyeth’s position in the pantheon is both more fluid and less assured, sometimes compellingly so. This exhibition makes a case and a counter-argument: Dispatching his better-known coastal views and idyllic farmscapes, “Unsettled” delves into a parallel body of work rife with darkness and anxious uncertainty, claiming it for his own. The goal of the exhibition, writes curator Amanda C. Burden, is the “intentional disentanglement” of Wyeth’s work from his celebrated forbears. If such a thing is even possible, this show is its best bet. Through Sept. 29. Farnsworth Art Museum, 16 Museum St., Rockland, Maine. 207-596-6457, farnsworthmuseum.org .

EDGAR DEGAS: MULTI-MEDIA ARTIST IN THE AGE OF IMPRESSIONISM Timed to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the first-ever Impressionist Exhibition in 1874 in Paris, this show highlights Degas’s experimental urge, most prominent in the exhilarating immediacy of his works on paper. Working with pastel, graphite, charcoal, and watercolor, Degas was a relentless innovator, as this show means to explore. Through Oct. 6. The Clark Art Institute, 225 South St., Williamstown. 413-458-2303, www.clarkart.edu .

ALAN MICHELSON: PROPHETSTOWN In the spring, the Museum of Fine Arts announced that it had commissioned Alan Michelson, a Mohawk member of the Six Nations of the Grand River, to craft a sculptural response to “Appeal to the Great Spirit,” Cyrus Dallin’s nation-non-specific bronze sculpture of an Indigenous man on horseback that’s stood at its front door for more than a century. That arrives in November, but those seeking a notional preview can consult this solo exhibition of Michelson’s at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site in the Catskills. Michelson is never non-specific, particularly when it comes to Indigenous representation, and “Prophetstown,” a site-specific installation, puts a fine point on it. Named after a community founded in 1808 by the native leaders Tecumseh and his brother Tenskwatawa to unite the tribes against settler incursion, the exhibition uses video, sculpture, and mixed media to explore forgotten legacies of colonialism and its complex histories buried in the ground beneath your feet. July 20 to Dec. 1. Thomas Cole National Historic Site, 218 Spring St., Catskill, N.Y. 518-943-7465, www.thomascole.org .

AGUSTINA WOODGATE: BALLROOM This installation imagines a borderless world: Dozens of globes sanded to illegible, with nations and their boundaries all but erased. More serene than chaotic, it nonetheless projects no utopia. The opacity of the globes themselves mirrors the artist’s ambiguous intent; what lies beyond the softened surface of a world unbound is either nirvana or catastrophe, depending on your point of view. Aug. 3 to Feb. 23, 2025. Peabody Essex Museum, 161 Essex St., Salem. 978-745-9500, PEM.org .

TAU LEWIS:SPIRIT LEVEL The first solo museum exhibition for an artist swiftly gaining global acclaim, this exhibition comes on the heels of recent successes at such important showcases as the 2022 Venice Biennale and Prospect.5, New Orleans. Lewis’s work, labor-intense and handmade, comprises sewing, weaving, casting, collage, assemblage, and carving. Her intensive scavenging and reworking of materials conjure a kind of rebirth of past lives for the wayward bits and pieces she collects, and a reconfiguring of diasporic “Black geographies,” in her words that she, as Caribbean-Canadian, inhabits herself. For the ICA she’ll create a brand-new work of five figures standing vigil over a radiant quilt that could as easily be a map of their diasporic universe. Aug. 29 to Jan. 26, 2025. Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, 25 Harbor Shore Drive, 617-478-3100, icaboston.org .

AMY ARBUS: BEYOND REASON Last year, the photographer went to a circus at a state fair, and the performers she saw sparked this latest project. Her black-and-white images of acrobats and aerialists portray human figures with the ropy muscularity of a Rodin sculpture in theatrically lit moments of strength, endurance, and extremity. The photographs depict a bodily life on the edge and a communal one, calling attention to the circus’s nomadic communities. Through July 16. Schoolhouse Gallery, 494 Commercial St., Provincetown. galleryschoolhouse.com

CATE McQUAID

BENNY FELDMAN “Tourette’s is sort of the abstract art of disabilities,” says Feldman, who has incorporated his syndrome fluidly into his comedy. “A lot of people are like, ‘I could do that.’” July 6, 7 p.m. $33. Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. 617-725-2844, www.laughboston.com

JULIA MASLI: HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Definitely not a setup/punch line type of show; Estonian-born and London-based clown Masli interacts with her audience in an attempt to solve their problems, but may not always communicate effectively, which is part of where the laughs come from. July 9, 9 p.m. $25-$30. The Rockwell, 255 Elm St., Somerville. www.therockwell.org

HEN HOUSE Improv Asylum’s in-house all women (or all “womHEN,” as on their IG account) improv and sketch cast perform a late-night show with a cheap ticket price following “The Main Stage Show.” July 11, 10 p.m. $5. Improv Asylum, 216 Hanover St. 617-263-6887, www.improvasylum.com
