Find the best cruise for you

Featured cruise deals, cruising guide, why take a cruise vacation.

If you have a place on your bucket list, chances are, a cruise will get you there. Cruises cover the world, taking millions of passengers each year to destinations like the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Alaska, Europe, the Mediterranean and even Antarctica. Cruising offers a tremendous value, with trips that include your lodging, meals and entertainment, all rolled into one. Some cruise lines even offer fully inclusive vacations, which cover drinks and tours ashore. Cruising means seeing the world while unpacking only once.

Cruises also provide a wonderful option for families, with many ships offering things like waterslides, mini-golf courses and fun clubs for kids and teens -- all for free. Planning is easy: Pick your destination and the right ship for you. The cruise line makes it simple, offering packages to help you save on extras like alcohol, shore tours or even airfare.

Travelers say they choose to cruise because cruising often costs less per night when compared with staying at a hotel, where they'll have to book -- and pay for -- all their extras.

What are Tips for Finding Cheap Cruises?

If you're a flexible traveler, you'll have a better chance of finding cheap cruises. Take a cruise that doesn't sail over the summer or holidays, when prices are highest. Book an inside cabin, or take your chances with a "guarantee cabin," ideal for passengers who aren't picky about their cabins but really want the lowest price available. Book cabins on lower decks, which often come with lower prices than those rooms on higher floors.

Cruise lines such as MSC Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International offer rates that might drop as low as $75 per person per night -- and sometimes lower. Here's a tip: Many times, the smaller ships from these lines offer the smallest prices.

If you want a real bargain, consider a transatlantic or repositioning cruise. These cruises are one-way or open-jaw trips, that start in one port and finish at another. You can score a deal sailing from Florida to Europe, for example, or even from New York to Florida. Just be aware, you'll probably have to pay a bit more for airfare to return.

What are Tips to Finding Last-Minute Cruise Deals?

Being flexible will get you the best last-minute cruise deals. If you live near a cruise port and can drive, you're probably going to be able to jump on those deals that might pop up a week or two before the ship is set to sail.

If you don't have flexibility with dates and locations, be willing to bend on destination. This will allow you to find a wider range of last-minute deals traveling to locations in their off-season or shoulder season.

Do plenty of research and know what your ideal cruise costs on average. When you see it drop, pounce! Many cruise lines update pricing several times every day, so be prepared.

Best cruises in 2020

Part of the appeal of cruising is that there's truly something for everyone. Ships come in an array of sizes, some loaded with so many activities, you couldn't get to them all in a week.

Families will find plenty of options and activities onboard big ships, which have transformed cruising, making the vessels as exciting as the destinations to which they sail. The Caribbean is a great option for families, offering lots of sunshine, great beaches and culture. Alaska, famous for its incredible vistas and abundant wildlife, also is a solid family cruise option. Consider cruise lines such as Carnival, Princess, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Disney, Celebrity, MSC and Holland America for a family cruise.

River cruising has been heating up over the past few years, with itineraries that send passengers down the Danube or Rhine rivers in Europe or to even more exotic locations, like the Mekong River in Cambodia or Vietnam or the Volga River in Russia. Popular river cruises embark in cities like Amsterdam, Budapest and Lisbon. Popular river cruise lines include Viking, AmaWaterways, Avalon, Scenic, Emerald Waterways, Tauck, Uniworld and Crystal.

If you're a thrill-seeker, consider an expedition cruise. These cruises, often onboard small ships, offer an intimate experience that brings passengers right up next to glaciers, whales, penguins and iguanas. Ships visit tiny spots all over the world, including Antarctica, Alaska, Australia and Greenland. Passengers will spend their time kayaking, hiking, biking and exploring with expert guides and knowledgeable naturalists. Expedition travelers love cruise lines such as Lindblad Expeditions, UnCruise Adventures, Silversea, Hurtigruten, Ponant and Quark Expeditions.

Luxury cruises offer all-inclusive experiences onboard smaller ships with perks like butlers, high-end amenities and personalized, intuitive service. Ships often feature luxury touches like marble and crystal decor, intimate spaces and beautiful spas. Because luxury ships tend to be smaller, they can often reach off-the-beaten-path destinations bigger ships can't -- ports like St. Tropez or Guadeloupe. If you're looking for a luxury cruise, consider Crystal, Seabourn, Regent Seven Seas, Oceania, Azamara, Viking Oceans and Silversea.

Cruisetours

Cruisetours offer the most immersive vacation experience by bundling your cruise vacation with a pre- or post-cruise land tour. For instance, you could spend a few days exploring Alaska's wilderness by train and motorcoach before embarking on a relaxing 7-day cruise through the magnificent glaciers. In Europe you can enjoy more time to tour incredible destination cities like Amsterdam, Paris and Vatican City. Cruisetour packages are available for many of our most popular destinations and they are a great way to improve the already incredible value of your next cruise vacation.

Alternatively, if you are looking for a multi-night pre- or post-cruise extension in a destination that doesn't offer cruisetours, consider our  Monograms Pre- & Post-Cruise Land Packages . Now available from a range of incredible cities and countries, these convenient cruise vacation add-ons combine the immersion and support of local experts with the value of bundled hotels, breakfasts and VIP sightseeing.

Many destinations offer Cruisetour and land packages. Contact our expert consultants at 1-800-377-9383 to find the right one for you.

Find the best cruise vacation for you

How can i find a cheap cruise.

Cheap cruise deals are fairly easy to find in most cases, and you can begin by considering what kind of features and itinerary you want. The more simplistic the experience is, the cheaper it is in general. On Expedia.com, you can filter for specific features and sort your results by price. By mixing and matching certain features, unforgettable experiences may be available with discount cruises. For example, booking a cruise with stunning restaurants and live performances while opting for an inside cabin without an ocean view window or balcony could be ideal for a traveler who doesn't plan on spending much time in their cabin anyways

What is the cheapest month to take a cruise?

The cheapest month to take a cruise varies based on your destination and the cruise line company that runs the ship. A Caribbean cruise , for example, is generally cheapest in the late summer and early fall since it's the local hurricane season.

Can I cancel my cruise booking?

Yes, you can cancel, but there may be fees for canceling depending on how far in advance you cancel and what kind of booking you have. You can check the specific cruise lines’ cancellation policies in your itinerary on Expedia.com.

Are river cruises worth the money?

River cruises are quite relaxing, with much more varied scenery than you'd experience on an ocean cruise. These ships often also feature several stops along the river, so passengers can enjoy a greater variety of destinations to explore. Viking river cruises are especially adept at providing this unforgettable experience.

What cruises are best for families?

The best family cruises in 2024 / 2025 tend to be Disney cruises with plenty of offerings for kids and adults alike, though MSC cruises are known for their iconic Children Cruise Free promotion. Disney cruises, specifically, are essentially a Disney theme park on a boat with live shows, rides, and attractions with your kids' favorite characters.

How much does a cruise ship cost?

Cruise prices can vary quite a bit, with cheap cruises and especially luxurious all-inclusive cruises available. Budget lines can offer cruise tickets as low as $50 per night in some cases, while the more high-end experiences can reach up to $1,000 per night and more.

What are some of the best cruise lines?

Several different cruise lines have a lot to offer, such as Viking cruises , which are known for traversing oceans and rivers with a style that blends outdoor and indoor splendor. Celebrity cruise line is more upscale with luxurious features like WiFi, included beverages, champagne, and suites with panoramic views. Other top cruise lines include Royal Caribbean International , Carnival Cruise , Disney Cruise , and Norwegian Cruise .

How far in advance do you need to book a cruise?

It's generally best to book a cruise about 6 to 12 months before your cruise departure. That's the safest way to balance availability and affordability. Technically, you can book earlier or later than that, with some last-minute cruise deals occasionally available up to a weekbefore cruise departure.

Are cruise trips affordable?

They can be, and it's especially simple to search for more affordable cruises with Expedia.com. Not only can you filter by cruise length, cruise line, and cabin experience, but you may also sort your results by price to put the more affordable options first on your search results page.

What is it like to go on a cruise?

A cruise is generally designed to offer the most relaxing experience possible. Despite the size of the ship, it's possible to feel the wave. Many passengers report that the movements help them sleep. Additionally, many fun cruises offer live stage performances, several restaurants, and shopping opportunities. When the ship is in international waters, you may even be able to enjoy a bit of tax-free shopping.

Are cruises a good way to travel?

Cruise travel is great if you're looking for some varied fun. Compared to a plane or a train, cruises have their own attractions and can be considered an integral part of cruise vacations. Plus, a cruise can hit several different destinations as well, with plenty of time to enjoy the cruise and scenic locales. It's certainly worth it for a unique experience no other method of travel can match.

Which cruise line is the cheapest?

The actual cheapest cruise available depends on a variety of different factors. Still, Carnival Cruise tends to be very affordable overall, most of the time with great options like the Carnival Sunrise and Carnival Horizon . Royal Caribbean is also another fantastic cruise line offering great deals if you are watching your budget.

How can I get the best cruise deals in 2024 / 2025?

If you're looking for some of the best cruise deals, booking through Expedia.com makes it easy since you can sort your cruise search results by price and have access to special deals. One Key members can earn  OneKeyCash  on all eligible bookings and get instant discounts with Member Prices. Sign up today!

What do I need to know when I book a cruise?

To book a cruise, you'll need to know where you'll be setting off from and where you'll be going, in addition to how many people will be with you and the features of the specific cruise you book. Keep in mind that you'll want to factor in spending money in your budget for the cruise's restaurants and shops in most cases.

Where should I go on a cruise in 2024 / 2025?

Plenty of incredible cruise destinations are accessible such as cruises to the Bahamas and cruises to Mexico . You may also be interested in cruises to Alaska or cruises to Europe for something outside of the Caribbean.

What countries are best to visit by cruise ship?

A lot of countries are accessible via a cruise, but the best include a cruise to Australia . However, a cruise to Australia is quite a long trip at sea and really allows you to take in everything the cruise ship has to offer.

Can I get last-minute cruise deals?

Yes, last-minute cruise deals are often available, and you can find them on Expedia.com by inputting your travel dates in your search and sorting your results by price. The deals will automatically be applied to the price estimates so that the cheapest estimates will show up first on your search results page.

Are cruises all-inclusive?

Cruises aren't always all-inclusive, but they can be. If you're interested in all-inclusive cruises, you can activate a search filter for it to ensure your search results only show cruises that meet your all-inclusive standard.

Is food free on a cruise?

Food is sometimes free on a cruise, but there are often specialty restaurants that aren't included with the general booking that you'll have to pay for separately. Check the details of each cruise before you book in the "What's included" section after clicking the cruise on your search results page.

What cruise lines are adults only?

Several lines offer adults-only cruise experiences, including Viking cruises , Carnival cruises , and Princess cruises . With an adults-only cruise, you can relax in a tranquil and laid-back setting without kids running around and enjoy all the cocktails you want.

What cruise lines are considered to be the most luxurious?

Viking cruises are considered exceptionally luxurious, with smaller ships and larger cabins that make them feel more exclusive, but Celebrity cruises offer luxury cruise lines too. Booking a luxury cruise means you can expect high-end amenities including gourmet restaurants, sizable suites, top-tier performances, massive pools, and much more.

What are the best cruises for couples?

Viking Cruises have much to offer for a more romantic experience. Holland America Line cruises can be quite refined and romantic as well, with an adult-oriented experience that's sophisticated rather than rowdy. Romantic cruises offer exceptional service as well as cozy suites for you and your partner to enjoy that's complemented by delicious food often themed around the cruise destination.

Why should I go on a cruise for my honeymoon?

Going on a cruise is a great way for you and your new spouse to be pampered with luxury while also being able to explore a new destination. Whether you're taking a cruise to Hawaii or a cruise to Bermuda , a particularly romantic experience is almost guaranteed thanks to the sheer number of things to do.

Are there any Christmas cruises?

Yes, quite a few cruise lines operate around Christmas, and you can find them easily by entering travel dates around Christmas into your 2024 cruise search. Some of the most popular Christmas cruises are available with Carnival and Disney.

Do I need a passport to go on a cruise?

Whether or not you need a passport depends on where you're going and the kind of cruise it is. Any US territory like Bermuda and Puerto Rico won't require a passport, of course, but you also don't need one if you're on a closed-loop cruise. This is a cruise that begins and ends at a US cruise terminal, even if there are stops in other countries on the way.

Why should I book a cruise with Expedia.com?

Booking a cruise with Expedia.com makes it easy to find a cruise type that works best for you. You can use the cruise finder and sort by cruise line, type, destination, length, and itinerary. One Key members also earn OneKeyCash on all eligible bookings that can be used to save on future eligible trips.

What happens if a cruise is canceled?

Every cruise has a different cancellation policy, but generally, passengers are entitled to either a full refund or a credit for a future cruise at a later date. Remember that they may automatically change your booking to their rescheduled date, so you may have to contact them if that date doesn't work for your schedule.

*OneKeyCash is not redeemable for cash and can only be used on Expedia,  Hotels.com  and Vrbo.

  • Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge®
  • Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge®
  • Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge®
  • Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge®
  • Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge®
  • Anchorage (Whittier)

Embark on an unforgettable Alaska cruisetour to the Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge®, where you can take in the beauty of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, the largest national park in the United States. Snow-covered mountains dominate the skyline while rivers feed the earth below. Explore your surroundings on a Copper River rafting trip, or fish for Alaska salmon in the mesmerizing waters.

All of our Alaska cruisetours include a stay at our premier Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge®, just one mile from the entrance of Denali National Park overlooking the Nenana River. Access some of the most stunning sights on earth — wilderness, wildlife and untamed land. Go flightseeing by Denali’s snow-covered peak, fly-fish for Arctic grayling, raft the Nenana River or venture into Denali on a park tour.

On the banks of the Chena River lies the Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge®. With riverside dining and frontier décor, the Fairbanks Lodge is the perfect excuse to extend your Alaska cruise vacation and dive deeper into your surroundings. Cruise down the Chena River on a sternwheeler riverboat, pan for gold at Gold Dredge 8 or ride ATVs through surrounding forests underneath the midnight sun.

Situated on the Kenai Peninsula overlooking the Kenai River, the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge® is surrounded by mountains, rivers and wilderness inviting you to explore. Adventure through Chugach National Forest, cruise past Kenai Fjords National Parks’ glaciers or fish along the Kenai River. Take in the sights of this natural masterpiece at a leisurely pace only on an Alaska cruisetour.

Situated within Denali State Park near the Chulitna River, the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge® offers unparalleled views of Denali from the treehouse as well as the Great Room and expansive deck in the main lodge. Tour a working Alaska homestead and learn how the Great Land’s residents have become so self-sufficient. Or land in a helicopter on a glacier beneath the tallest peak in North America on your Alaska cruisetour.

Only an hour and a half from the cruise port of Whittier lies the largest city in Alaska – Anchorage. Visit the Chugach National Forest, the second largest national forest in the United States. Spend the day absorbing history at the Anchorage Museum. Or visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and see brown bears, moose and bison living in a protected habitat that perfectly emulates the wild.

Explore the Great Land

Voyage closer to the sights, sounds, wildlife and traditions that make Alaska unique.

Between the natural masterpieces and the animate personalities, every part of Alaska tells an extraordinary story. On an Alaska cruisetour with Princess, discover what makes the Great Land so special, and craft your own tales of your time on land and sea.

A sensory experience

Don’t just see the Great Land’s glaciers, feel them come alive on an Alaska cruisetour. Get up close to Mother Nature’s masterpieces and listen for the crash of “white thunder”. Visit wilderness playgrounds like Glacier Bay National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – along with even more natural wonderlands like Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier, College Fjord and Hubbard Glacier.

A nature lover's dream

From bald eagles to humpback whales, many animals call Alaska home. The waters are teeming with marine life, like king salmon, while the land is decorated by the colorful coats of Denali National Park’s “big five” – including grizzly bears, wolves, moose, Dall sheep and caribou. On an Alaska cruisetour, encounter wildlife in their natural habitats and experience their unique personalities for yourself.

Mountains & National Parks

National treasures

Alaska’s national parks are nothing short of impressive. Denali National Park boasts the continent’s highest peak, and Glacier Bay National Park is one of the world’s largest protected areas. You can discover even more magnificence during your Alaska cruisetour at Wrangell-St. Elias and Kenai Fjords National Parks, where one of the four largest ice caps in the world invites guests to explore its terrain.

Alaska excursions

Don't just visit this famous land, live it on Alaska excursions. Rush across the snow on a dog sled with a professional musher, fly fish for salmon in fresh rivers and soar over miles of glacial tundra in a helicopter. Watch migrating humpback whales from the deck of a catamaran or Native craftsman carve a traditional totem pole, and expand your Alaska cruise experience.

Alaska Cruise Onboard Experience

Our award-winning North to Alaska program brings local personalities, culture and cuisine on board and ashore to immerse you in all things Alaska during your cruise to the Great Land.

Alaska Seafood

Fresh and bountiful, like Alaska itself

Alaska's seafood is famous, and we bring the best to you with locally inspired dishes from the state’s best eateries. With Cook My Catch excursions, catch your own salmon or halibut with the help of a local expert, and in the evening our talented chefs will prepare your haul for your dinner — a Princess exclusive. From ship to shore, the best is at your fingertips on our Alaska cruises.

Meet Local Alaskans

Real Alaska from local Alaskans

Alaskans are inviting people who love to share what makes their state unique. Watch lumberjacks in action, learn from Glacier Bay National Park rangers and craft with a Native totem pole carver. Or listen to harrowing Tales from the Deadliest Catch fishermen and climbers who have summited Denali during your Alaska cruise.

Unique Alaska Cruise Experiences

Great experiences from the great land

Travel back in time and pan for gold like a prospector during the Gold Rush or see the Northern Lights in the planetarium. At the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge, explore our treehouse and enjoy unmatched views of Denali. Or savor tree-inspired bites at our very own Sappy Hour. Dive deeper into what makes the Great Land special on your cruise to Alaska.

8 Best Cruise Ship Tours

cruise tour

If you've ever wondered what goes on below decks, cruise ship tours offer an interesting peek behind the curtain. For a fee, passengers can learn how everything works, see who's doing your laundry or washing your dishes, marvel at the logistics of feeding several thousand people and, on some ships, visit the bridge and learn about navigation.

It's important to be organized -- some cruise lines hold only one behind-the-scenes event per sailing, usually on a sea day, so they do tend to book up, despite the relatively high cost. If you want to register an interest, head for Guest Relations as soon as you board.

Note that these tours are not usually suitable for wheelchair users; you may be able to visit some of the areas but probably not all. What's more, the tour may not include the bridge, so check first if that's your main objective; in these times of heightened security, some lines have stopped all passenger visits to the bridge. Don't expect to hang out in the crew bar or see the crew cabins; some areas are sacred and crew privacy and peace need to be respected.

Here are our top picks for the most interesting cruise ship tours.

On This Page

  • Princess Cruises' Ultimate Ship Tour
  • Celebrity Cruises' Inside Access Tour
  • Carnival's Behind the Fun Tour
  • Royal Caribbean's Behind the Royal Advantage All Access Tour
  • MSC Cruises' The Big Reveal
  • Norwegian's Behind-the-Scenes Tour
  • Cunard's Behind-the-Scenes Tour
  • Holland America's Back of the House Tour

1. Princess Cruises' Ultimate Ship Tour

Princess Cruises offers, in our opinion, the best and most comprehensive behind-the-scenes tour. Although it's expensive, at $150 per person, a lot of consideration has gone into planning the three-hour onboard "excursion," and you do come away with several decent freebies.

The tour starts backstage in the theater, so you meet the production crew and some of the cast and see the costumes and dressing rooms. In the galley, you enjoy a glass of Champagne with the chef, a canape tasting and a tour of the storage and food preparation areas.

Then it's on to the engine room, the incinerator room -- where you'll meet the ship's environmental officer -- and the print shop, where the daily program is produced, with a set of personalized stationery for each person on the tour. The tour also includes the photo lab, medical center and the laundry room, where you're given a bathrobe to take home.

The tour highlight is a trip to the uppermost deck to look inside the funnel and to get a bird's-eye view over the decks. The tour finishes on the bridge to meet the captain and pose for a photo with him or her by the wheel. Each participant is given the photo and a certificate.

The Ultimate Ship Tour is offered on sea days, once or twice per cruise, and has to be booked via the Passenger Services Desk.

2. Celebrity Cruises' Inside Access Tour

cruise tour

Celebrity Cruises offers Inside Access tours on each cruise, which are conducted in small groups and last three hours. Prices start at $99 and vary depending upon the tour length. You'll get to stroll down the I-95, the main corridor that runs the length of the ship, named after the main interstate highway on the East Coast of the U.S. because of its motorway-like quality. You'll see the laundry room, galley, provisions area, engine room and finally, the bridge, although this may be subject to change. Arrange one of these tours via the Guest Relations desk.

3. Carnival's Behind the Fun Tour

Carnival Cruises ' Behind the Fun tour has a nice VIP feel about it since, on top of the usual stops (backstage, laundry room, crew galley, bridge, etc.) and the crew training center, there is a cool emphasis on meeting the people behind the cruise. You might meet the captain, chief engineer and/or the chef de cuisine.

There's time set aside to pose for photos with the captain. Tour participants also receive a few commemorative gifts. Bookings are only taken at the Shore Excursion Desk once you have boarded the ship. The price varies upon the length of the tour (which is based upon the length of your itinerary) and ranges from $55 to $95.

4. Royal Caribbean's Behind the Royal Advantage All Access Tour

Royal Caribbean treats its All Access Tour as an excursion, so you can prebook it online, which is handy since space is limited. The tour is an extensive journey through the backstage areas of the ship, from the galley and the stores to the engine control room, the laundry and the I-95 crew corridor. There's also a bridge visit, subject to security levels, and a gift on completion of the tour. The price ($50 to $130) and tour itinerary vary by ship and sailing.

5. MSC Cruises' The Big Reveal

Hats off to MSC Cruises for keeping its behind-the-scenes tours affordable at $63 for adults ($33 for children). The Big Reveal is available on all MSC ships, except Lirica, and can be booked at reception.

You'll get to see backstage in the theater, the laundry room, provisions area and the galley. There's also a sneak peek at the Yacht Club, MSC's exclusive all-suites area, with a chance to chat to the butlers and the concierge there -- a smart move on the part of the cruise line to get passengers to trade up on their next cruise.

Finally, there's a stop in one of the ship's specialty restaurants with a chance to meet the chef and try some of the food, with a chef's apron as a souvenir. Unfortunately, there is no engine room or bridge visit.

The tour is available in five languages, and in addition to the apron, you'll get a discount on the cover charge for one of the specialty restaurants.

6. Norwegian's Behind-the-Scenes Tour

Members of Norwegian 's loyalty club, Latitudes, who have reached Platinum level and above qualify for a free behind-the-scenes tour as one of their perks, but other cruisers can pay $79 to join a tour. These tours operate once per cruise, so you need to book as soon as you can. They can only be reserved onboard.

You'll see the galley, laundry room and stores, and visit the cold storage area, the butchery and the bakery. There's a talk about the ship's environmental systems, a walk along the I-95 and a look backstage at the theater. Passengers are given a commemorative photo of the ship, although there's no bridge visit.

7. Cunard's Behind-the-Scenes Tour

cruise tour

Cunard offers one Behind-the-Scenes tour per voyage on cruises of more than seven days. It takes about three hours to show no more than 16 passengers the workings of a Cunard Queen. The tour costs $120.

You're issued with a cool "access all areas" pass and then whisked down to see the mooring deck where you can marvel at the massive anchor winches, followed by a visit to the medical center. You'll check out waste management, inspect the engine control room with the chief engineer and visit the food stores. Then it's off to the galley with the executive chef and backstage with the production staff.

A stop for refreshments and canapes and a detailed visit to the bridge, to meet the captain and navigational officers, are also included. The tour finishes with a take-home goody bag and commemorative pin.

Our tip? Although all three Cunard Queens are impressive vessels, there's something special about getting behind the scenes on Queen Mary 2, given its global fame and enormous size. Reserve your tour via the Guest Relations desk.

8. Holland America's Back of the House Tour

Getting backstage in the entertainment areas (including the incredible wardrobe) is a highlight of Holland America 's Back of the House Tour. You'll also check out the navigation bridge, engine control room, laundry, waste management room, marshalling area and a selection of storerooms.

While this tour is expensive at $150 per person, tours of just the galley and kitchen are often offered free of charge. The Back of the House Tour is offered once on a seven-night cruise and twice on cruises of 14 nights or more. These can be booked at reception once onboard.

BEAUTY TO GO WILD OVER

With vast forests, rolling tundra, mighty rivers, pristine lakes and towering mountains, you will feel tempted to continue exploring the outdoors with Alaska land tours after your cruise. Whether in remote outposts or cities surrounded by wilderness, the people who call the Great Land home share an independent spirit, a strong sense of community and a love of Alaska’s wild beauty so their welcome will make your visit truly memorable.

Anchorage, Alaska Glaciers

URBAN MEETS EPIC

Alaska’s biggest city, Anchorage, is set between the sparkling waters of Cook Inlet and the dramatic snow-capped Chugach Mountains. Few places in the world can match its appealing blend of metropolitan pursuits and outdoor living. Anchorage is at its most exuberant during the summer, when locals make the most of the mild temperatures and long days to stay out late into the sunny night. The big city also boasts Alaska’s biggest and most diverse dining scene, from great burger joints and craft breweries to classic steakhouses and cosmopolitan cuisine.

Denali, Alaska Tallest Peak

SIX MILLION ACRES OF DISCOVERY

Towering high in the center of the Alaska Range is the Denali, North America’s tallest peak at 20,310 feet. Central to the cultural heritage of the native peoples who have lived here for thousands of years, the giant mountain is the ultimate symbol of the Alaskan wild. Denali National Park remains a wild kingdom, where animals large and small, roam free. View Dall sheep, wolves, caribou, moose and the mighty grizzly bear among many. And come summer, they are joined by more than 160 species of migratory birds.

CITY OF GOLD AT THE EDGE OF THE ARCTIC

Back in 1901, riverboat captain E.T. Barnette ran aground in the shallows of the Chena, so he set up a trading post. A year later, the nearby discovery of gold transformed the remote settlement into a boomtown, and Barnette the first mayor. Fairbanks today remains a destination for adventure seekers, as the gateway to Alaska’s northern wilds and some its most isolated terrain. While home to just 32,000, Fairbanks is the big city of the interior and cultural hub for the sparsely populated region. You can still go for the gold in Fairbanks, panning just like the early prospectors did.

No two travelers are exactly alike. That’s why a Royal Caribbean Cruisetour includes thoughtfully-curated experiences, like panning for gold at a mining camp in Fairbanks, scouting bears and caribou at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, and scoping views on an aerial tram ride to the summit of Mount Alyeska — plus many more. Each option is designed to complement your own independent explorations for a complete and memorable Alaska vacation crafted with you in mind.

Alaska Fairbanks Family Gold Panning

GOLD DREDGE 8

The discovery of hold transformed Alaska, and the Gold Dredge 8 tour brings the state's gold rush history and mining heritage to life. Over three decades, the pan-like dredge extracted gold just outside downtown Fairbanks. Years after closing, it re-opened as a national historic district and is a popular attraction. You'll travel there aboard a replica narrow-gauge train whose conductor shares tales of the early prospectors. Then watch the giant dredge - itself an engineering landmark - in action before getting hands-on, panning for gold the old-fashioned way. Explore the camp where the miners lived, and then enjoy some cookies and hot coffee while your fortune is weighed.

Alaska, Wildlife Moose

ALASKA WILDLIFE CONSERVATION CENTER

Near the very end of the Turnagain Arm Waterway, along the scenic Seward Highway, this center provides a sanctuary for native Alaskan animals in need. Here you can get up close to the orphaned, injured or displaced animals, all under expert care in their natural habitats so that they can be reintroduced into the wild. The resident population varies by the season but can include caribou and moose calves, fawns, porcupines, birds, lynx, and brown and black bears.

Alaska, Cruise Tours Alyeska Tram

ALYESKA AERIAL TRAM

Outside of a flightseeing tour, the Alyeska Aerial Tram in Girdwood delivers Alaska's best panoramic views in a matter of minutes. From the Alyeska Resort at the base of Mount Alyeska, you'll ascend 2,300 feet to the summit. From the tram, you can see for miles, with even more expansive vistas from the mountaintop observation deck. The panorama includes the seven hanging glaciers and the snow-capped peaks of the Chugach Mountains, the forested Chugach valley and out to the sparkling waters of the Turnagain Arm waterway. Be sure to look down, too, and you may see wildlife ambling across the mountain's slope.

4 months at sea? Princess Cruises releases details about 2026 world tour

by: Travis Schlepp

Want to travel the world? Have the stomach to spend one-third of the year at sea?

If the answer to both of those questions is yes, and you have $20,000 to spend, Princess Cruises has the trip of a lifetime for you.

The cruise line has released details about an upcoming world cruise that will visit 52 ports in 28 countries, spanning six continents and traveling 35,000 nautical miles.

The 2026 Princess World Cruise is a 114-day voyage aboard the Coral Princess, a nearly 1,000-foot cruise ship with room for about 2,000 passengers.

The massive globe-trotting cruise ships off from two U.S. ports — Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, on Jan. 5, 2026 and from Los Angeles on Jan. 21, 2026.

The 2026 cruise will visit the most destinations ever for a Princess cruise ship, but tickets don’t come cheap. Entry level reservations start at around $20,000 but go up depending on your preferred accommodations.

But if booked before Oct. 31 of this year, travelers will receive a free “Princess Premier Package” that comes with WiFi, premium alcoholic beverages, once-weekly specialty dining, unlimited “casual dining,” unlimited fitness classes and reserved theater seating — among other perks.

Princess says those early bookings also come with onboard credits, special discounts and free transfers from local airports.

Terry Thornton, chief commercial officer for Princess Cruises, says the company’s world cruises address growing demand for longer cruises that stop in more “exotic destinations.”

“Our 2026 World Cruise offers our most destination-rich itinerary ever so guests can immerse themselves in a global experience rich with landmarks, ancient ruins, unique landscapes, wildlife, gastronomy, cultures and heritage,” Thornton said in a news release.

This undated promotional image shows a Princess cruise ship docked as part of a globe-spanning world cruise. (Princess Cruises)

The 2026 World Cruise will stop at several destinations that Princess has never visited, including Boracay, Philippines; Puerto Chiapas, Mexico; and Ponta Delgada, Portugal.

The cruise will spend more time at some popular ports, including Singapore; Sydney, Australia; and Honolulu, Hawaii, as well as one overnight stay in Hong Kong. The full 52-destination trip will provide access to 45 UNESCO World Heritage Sites around the globe.

The cruise line says destination-specific events and entertainment will be provided throughout the trip.

Full itineraries and booking information for the 2026 Princess World Cruise can be found online . Those who want to tag along but are unable to join for the entire journey can book cruise segments that come with shorter sailing times.

The 2024 World Cruise is a 111-day journey aboard the Island Princess which shipped off from Los Angeles in mid-January. Next year’s U.S.-based world cruise is the longest ever at 116 days. Princess also offers world cruises that depart from Australia later in the year.

7 things to do as soon as you board a cruise ship.

Making the most of embarkation day can set you up for an enjoyable cruise vacation.

If you’ve never cruised before, embarking a modern vessel for the first time can be truly overwhelming. You don’t know what you don’t know, but by not doing certain things within the first hours, you risk spoiling your dream vacation.

The embarkation day process for a cruise is like a streamlined airport experience. Cruise lines provide a time window, usually from late morning to mid-afternoon, for arrival at the port.

Upon arrival, keep your boarding documents and ID ready. Once you’ve dropped off your luggage, cruise staff guide you to check-in where you'll present your ID, complete a health form, and receive your cruise card or wristband.

This card acts as a boarding pass, room key, and payment card onboard. Some lines offer keyless embarkation, allowing direct access to rooms and cards collected at the cabin. Before boarding, you'll go through a security line, albeit less rigorous than at an airport.

Once onboard, make sure to do these seven things as soon as you can. From checking your accommodations to enjoying the iconic sailaway, these steps ensure you maximize your onboard experience right from the start.

Your Best Look Yet At The New iPhone 16

Imessage s lock on america is this really the beginning of the end, a psychologist explains the difference between psychopaths and sociopaths, check your accommodation thoroughly.

As soon as you enter your cabin, inspect everything to ensure it meets your expectations and everything is in working order. Check that all facilities, such as the shower, toilet flush, lights, and electrical outlets, function properly.

If there is anything amiss, this is the time to contact guest services. You should expect a long queue on embarkation day, but the sooner you identify an issue, the higher the chance of a quick resolution, especially if an alternative cabin may be required.

You should check your cruise ship cabin and meet your room steward as soon as you can on embarkation ... [+] day.

This time also gives you an opportunity to stow your valuables in the cabin safe, and freshen up if desired.

Meet Your Cabin Steward

Introduce yourself to your cabin steward . They are key to ensuring your stay is comfortable, and will most likely call on you as soon as they realize you have arrived.

Discuss any specific preferences or needs you might have, such as extra pillows or allergies, or mention if you are late sleepers, for example. If you have any queries about room service or laundry options, now is the time to ask.

Cabin stewards are always professional, but getting to know yours early can enhance your onboard experience significantly.

Book Everything

Modern cruise ships are home to a dazzling range of entertainment and dining options. Early booking is crucial for popular onboard activities, dining reservations, and shore excursions.

In some cases, popular activities may have sold out prior to the cruise. For those that need to be booked on board, visit the relevant information desk or use the onboard app to make all your bookings as soon as possible.

You should also check your allocated dining time, if you are on a ship that operates a fixed dining concept. If you’re unhappy with the allocation, visit the maitre’d to request a change.

Attend Muster

The only absolute must-do on the first day is the muster drill. Prior to the pandemic, many cruise lines still required physical attendance in the theater or other large venue to go through the cruise safety procedures .

Nowadays, almost all cruise lines offer a virtual muster experience. Typically, a safety video is available on the cabin TV (which must be watched before accessing other functions) or even on the cruise line app.

You may still need to attend your designated lifeboat station to have your name taken, but this is straightforward and takes mere minutes.

Take Advantage Of Ship Tours

When you arrive in your cabin, check your daily planner to see if there are any introductory tours or sessions offered by the cruise line.

Embarkation day can be hectic and overwhelming. Join a guided tour to get your bearings.

Ship tours are ideal for first-time cruisers unfamiliar with the ship’s layout and generally how things work on board.

Keep an eye out for embarkation day tours or introductory sessions at the spa, fitness center, or casino. These often include special promotions or offers to kickstart your cruise experience.

Airplane Mode

To avoid hefty roaming charges, switch your phone to airplane mode. While at sea, your device could inadvertently connect to a cellular maritime network , which incurs high costs or data.

Even if you don't actively use your phone, you might accrue a significant bill from background data usage by your apps before you even receive an SMS notification—if you receive one at all.

Most cruise ships offer Wi-Fi packages, so consider purchasing one if you need to stay connected. Remember, cruise line apps typically require connection to the ship’s Wi-Fi network, but you can use them without buying an internet package.

Alternatively, use this time to disconnect and enjoy the break from constant connectivity. If so, use the time before sailaway to send some farewell messages.

Enjoy Sailaway

The sailaway party is a cruise tradition not to be missed. On many lines, the top decks will host live music and festivities as the ship departs.

It’s the perfect time to grab a drink, meet other travelers, and take in the stunning views as you set sail on your adventure. If you want to toast the sailaway, be sure to get a drink in good time, as the bars will all be busy.

You can pack light for this high-seas adventure.

An 11-day nude cruise is scheduled to set sail from Miami to the Caribbean next February — and you won’t even need an overstuffed suitcase.

Bare Necessities is partnering with Norwegian Cruise Line for the flesh-flashing event, which will see clothing-averse customers travel on board the Norwegian Pearl.

“As always, it’s our pleasure to provide you with the luxury of deciding what NOT to wear,” a message on the Bare Necessities site reads.

The 968-foot vessel, which can accommodate up to 2,300 passengers, has been renamed “The Big Nude Boat” for the journey.

The 968-foot vessel, which can accommodate up to 2,300 passengers, has been renamed "The Big Nude Boat" for the journey.

The cruise will make stops in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and St. Maarten, but customers will have to cover up if they disembark the ship to do any sightseeing.

Passengers are also subject to strict rules on board — most notably, they will be required to wear clothing while inside the vessel’s indoor dining rooms.

However, there will be a “large buffet area for nude outdoor dining.”

In order to maintain hygiene, nudists will also need to put a towel down before sitting “in the stateroom, pool deck and buffet area” if they’re baring their bottoms.

Bare Necessities also makes clear that “fondling or inappropriate touching is prohibited.”

Bare Necessities is partnering with Norwegian Cruise Line for the flesh-flashing event , which will see clothing-averse customers travel on board the Norwegian Pearl.

Prices for the nude cruise start at around $2,000, but cashed-up nudists can fork out upwards of $33,000 for a deluxe three-bedroom villa.

Bare Necessities has already chartered more than 75 nude cruises in the past, with one prior passenger speaking out about the experience in a recent Reddit post.

“Cruises seem to be for people who like to eat and lie around, so there were a lot of large people,” the 67-year-old man admitted.

“Also, most people don’t seem to be comfortable being nude in public until later in life so the crowd was older. I’d say 20% attractive, 20% average, 60% unattractive,” he added.

Romantic Things to Do in Honolulu

Updated : May 01, 2024

AAA Travel Editor, WA

Table of contents, snorkel with sea turtles and dolphins, nighttime luau and dinner, sunset cruise with cocktails in waikiki, tour the historical waikiki neighborhood, explore lanikai beach, shark cage tour, beachfront dinner at sunset, iolani palace, visit honolulu’s botanical gardens, plan your trip to honolulu with aaa..

As the capital of Hawaii, Honolulu strives to live up to every expectation visitors have when visiting a tropical paradise. Located right on the Pacific coast on the island of Oahu, Honolulu combines white sand beaches, sweeping mountains and grand architecture to create the perfect destination for romantic getaways.

With so much to love, it’s no wonder Honolulu is popular with couples looking for a romantic vacation full of adventure and breathtaking scenery.

With this guide, you’ll discover some of the best date spots in Honolulu along with some unique activities that will create memories for a lifetime. Some activities are leisurely while others are more active, so you can find something to enjoy on any occasion.

cruise tour

• Honolulu, Waikiki

• Active excursion, scenic

Enjoy a romantic day with your partner on a large catamaran complete with a full-bar and snorkel with Hawaiian sea turtles, dolphins and more.

There are many tours available in the Waikiki district and elsewhere around Honolulu and they’re the perfect way to combine sightseeing and adventure. If you prefer not to snorkel, there are also glass-bottom boat tours to help you experience the ocean without swimming.

Reservations are recommended, but not required.

cruise tour

• Nighttime entertainment, dinner, cultural

Luaus are a cultural cornerstone in Hawaii and you can experience an authentic performance complete with hula dancing, singing and a huge meal featuring roasted meats, tropicals fruits and other local cuisine.

Some luau packages provide free transportation and have extra features like headband weaving tutorials and other hands-on experiences, while other packages may only feature the performance and dinner. Regardless of which type you choose, luaus are a great date-night event and are sure to be a highlight of your trip.

cruise tour

• Relaxing, scenic, food and drink

There are few things more romantic than a sunset cruise in beautiful Waikiki and there are many options available that feature on-board cocktails, drinks and delectable appetizers.

Reservations are highly recommended, although you may be able to find a last-minute opening since the region is full of providers.

cruise tour

• Guided tour, sightseeing, daytime activity

Waikiki is one of the most famous neighborhoods in Honolulu and it’s an excellent place to explore and stroll around. From jaw-dropping beaches to historical architecture, boutique shops and tons of restaurants and bars, you could walk here for hours and never run out of new things to enjoy.

Of course, sometimes it’s nice to just relax and experience everything without walking. Tours like the Waikiki Trolley are a great way for you and your partner to visit new places and spend time together without breaking a sweat.

Some of the routes focus on the coast and nature, while others take you to culturally relevant sites plus shops and restaurants, which allows you to customize your experience based on your preferences.

cruise tour

• Active, leisurely, relaxing

While you’ll never find a bad beach in Honolulu, there are some places that are especially romantic and worth the short drive. Lanikai Beach is one of those places and it’s a great location to spend some time with your partner at any hour.

At Lanikai, the waves are calm and the sand is soft and white, making it a picture-perfect tropical paradise. Plus, there are views of nearby islands along with rolling foothills which creates a wonderfully scenic atmosphere.

Bring a picnic and lounge around, or get active with volleyball, swimming and other beach activities.

Some onsite rental options include:

• Paddleboarding

• Windsailing

• Snorkeling

As an additional fun date idea, you can also book a professional photoshoot right on the beach.

cruise tour

• Active, thrilling

If you want an unforgettable, heart-pounding experience you and your partner will never forget, then dive into the ocean in a shark cage to see them up close and personal.

With these tours , you’ll be taken right into shark territory in a floating safety cage complete with metal bars and poly-glass windows. Since the cage floats near the surface of the water, you can simply snorkel instead of scuba diving like traditional cages require.

Some of the types you’ll see include Galapagos and Sandbar sharks and while you wouldn’t want to meet them without a cage, this is an overall safe experience despite the adrenaline you’ll feel when they come close.

Afterward, once your heart rate calms down, you can walk along the beach, grab a nice meal and talk about the amazing experience you just shared together.

cruise tour

• Relaxing, romantic, evening event

Honolulu has a number of great dining options and enjoying an expertly prepared meal on the coast during sunset can make for a perfect romantic evening.

Some top Honolulu romantic spots with great food and incredible ocean views include:

• Bali Oceanfront , which serves seafood and steak.

• Michel’s at Colony Surf , which features seafood and meat dishes with French influences.

• Hoku’s , which blends international and local cuisines into exciting new dishes.

Reservations are highly recommended for these and similar restaurants.

cruise tour

• 364 S King St, Honolulu, HI 96813

• Historical, classical, cultural

The Iolani Palace served as the home for Hawaii’s historic royal monarchs and it now stands as a gorgeous museum and preserved piece of history.

With a grand and classical design, you can find amazing photo opportunities throughout the grounds while also learning about Hawaii’s interesting history and culture.

With such a beautiful atmosphere, this palace is one of the best Honolulu date spots for people who love architecture and history.

cruise tour

• Multiple locations; all free of charge

• Relaxing, scenic

Honolulu has five public botanical gardens that feature an incredible assortment of local plants, birds and other mesmerizing sights.

Each garden has its own unique layout, from flowing rivers to mountain views and even a garden right on the coastline.

The gardens include:

"Big Nude Boat" offers a trip to "bare-adise" on a naked cruise from Florida

By Li Cohen

Updated on: May 2, 2024 / 8:20 AM EDT / CBS News

Like to travel light? One cruise ship soon to set sail from Florida is making sure all you need is the bare necessities – no shoes, no clothes but plenty of service.

" The Big Nude Boat " will take travelers from Miami to the Caribbean on "an 11-day adventure back to Bare-adise," the website says. Setting sail from Feb. 3 through Valentine's Day 2025, the trip offers a "stress-free, clothes-free experience" during which up to 2,300 passengers can roam the ship in the nude while out at sea.

"It's our pleasure to provide you with the luxury of deciding what NOT to wear," Bare Necessities Tour and Travel says.

@cbsmornings Would you dare to set sail on a nude cruise? 🚢 Cruisebare's upcoming full-ship nude cruise, departing from Miami in February next year, is making waves. Even #TonyDokoupil is down to go. 🌊 #cruises #vacation #experience #miami #sail ♬ original sound - CBS Mornings

Passengers won't be allowed to be naked when the ship is docked, but can ditch their usual attire once they are anchored or out on the water. And when clothing is optional, standard nudist etiquette must be abided by, the website says. When sitting, nude passengers must either wear a thong or sit on a towel or some kind of fabric. And while the self-serve buffet on the pool deck is a clothes-free area, passengers must be dressed for all dining room meals – and no, bathrobes don't count.

Photos and videos will also not be permitted unless all individuals being documented give consent.

"The Big Nude Boat" is just one of the cruises offered by Bare Necessities, which says on its website that the company has been "working to break down the barriers against social nudity and make clothing-optional vacationing a viable and acceptable option for all."

"Social nudity is not a sexual activity, and we strive to dispel the misconception that it is anything but natural and beautiful," the company says. "We have made strides in the acceptance of nude vacationing and our wide range of cruise charters are a testament to our success."
