Meet the Joie Tourist

The Joie Tourist was introduced in 2019 and it grabbed the prestigious Red Dot award.

This lightweight stroller’s compact fold and fully reclinable seat is ideal for families who are always on the go. Some airlines will allow the stroller as cabin luggage because it barely opens to a width of 47.1 cm.

The fact that the stroller almost folds by itself after being unlocked makes folding easier as well. True to its name, the Tourist makes a great travel companion for everyone, including infants. It’s fully compatible with the Joie Ramble carry cot and car seats. This stroller may also accommodate Maxi-Cosi car seats.

Value for Money

Please note that the Joie Tourist is not available on Amazon.

Some parents heartily endorse the Joie Tourist if you’re seeking for a mid-range, lightweight, user-friendly travel stroller. It may not appear as pricey as some of the other travel strollers on the market. Considering its price and features, it’s a wonderful buy for families who love to travel.

As with any stroller, parents have reported issues with the seat. While it’s roomy, it can be uncomfortable for some kids.

What parents say

“It was a total waste of money because my son disdains the stroller I got for our trip. He can’t sit up straight in it, and he’s so uncomfortable that he sobs when he’s in it. I must now buy another, which is unfortunate.” – G. July 13, 2021, 1 star

“The seat is roomy, but it’s a bit tilted. It makes my child slouched. Even though it is a price tradeoff, it will work for rare use.” – L. April 10, 2021, 3 stars

“Price to performance is excellent. Don’t expect the most opulent and durable stroller for that price, but it’s more than just a basic buggy. As a parent of an older toddler who doesn’t require all the bells and whistles on the move, I found it to be quite useful.” – P. February 27, 2020, 4 stars

Ease of Use

When comparing the Joie Tourist to other prams where a child can sit entirely straight, one disadvantage is that even when fully upright, there still appears to be some recline with the seat. Some parents claim that their child cannot sit up straight in it, hence making it possibly less useful than a pram for lengthy hikes and activities.

It’s simple to tighten the straps and fastening the five-point harness to secure a child in it isn’t at all difficult. But some parents have reported to have experienced so otherwise.

“When the baby is sitting, the backrest cannot be lowered to less than 90 degrees.” – O. December 10, 2021, 4 stars

Portability

The Joie Tourist weighs 6.6 kilograms. It folds up quite easily and simply contracts to a compact size with the press of a button. Kindly note that you must be ready to remove almost everything from it, as anything in the storage compartment stops it from folding completely.

This stroller is so compact when folded that it not only leaves a ton of space in a car’s trunk, but it can also fit in the front or back footwell, giving it even more flexibility.

“We purchased this stroller because my wife must regularly take it upstairs to the second floor. She is pleased because it is light and little for that.” – R. February 26, 2021, 4 stars

“Additionally, this stroller works well for transportation underground without an elevator; all you need to do is fold it up and utilize the carry strap to make transporting your child easier.” – F. September 10, 2021, 4 stars

Maneuverability

Although the Tourist’s front wheels have locking mechanisms that help on difficult terrain, it doesn’t seem as solid on rocky or uneven ground compared to the more durable strollers because its wheels are relatively small.

“We had no issues maneuvering the stroller on rough surfaces and roads because it is incredibly light and durable, fits behind the seat in the car, and is very easy to use.” – O. December 10, 2021, 4 stars

“The stroller is incredibly simple to control. If you don’t want it to swing left or right, simply lock the front wheels, and it will move straight and smoothly, making it easy to control with one hand.” – F. September 10, 2021, 4 stars

Safety and Quality

The Joie Tourist could do well as a backup stroller simply because it isn’t as solid as some of its bigger competitors. Some parents think it isn’t as long-lasting.

Most well-known travel strollers are designed for toddlers up to 4 years old and 22 kg. This stroller is only intended for kids weighing up to 15kg, therefore it could not last as long.

“The stroller gets caught on the smallest incline on the pavement or stone because its front wheels are too shaky.” – D. November 21, 2020, 1 star

“It suffered damage in less than a month. Additionally, the seat does not sit upright, which appears to be uncomfortable.” – D. November 21, 2020, 1 star

Accessorize Your Joie Tourist

This stroller is quite fashionable and chic – the tan leather handle, oyster canopy, and padded grey seat all look great together. It’s a nice change from the numerous black strollers available.

Kindly note that it doesn’t come with a cup holder nor a child tray – these are sold separately and can be bought on online marketplaces.

“But it needs a drink holder! A feature that would allow me to push a stroller while drinking hot coffee with one hand would be ideal.” – L. September 13, 2021, 1 star

Should You Consider the Joie Tourist for Your Family?

Kindly note that the Joie Tourist is not available on Amazon.

The Tourist is a great option for families looking for a compact stroller that can be used everyday and during holidays. It folds compactly and eases into small spaces quite easily.

While its design is simple and not as modern as its counterparts, its price offers good value as it can help to see you through from the early months to toddler life and more.

It’s most suitable for families who are on a budget but want to get a stroller option that’s lightweight but also provides the functionality of a travel system. Its compact fold and featherweight frame could attract families who would like to have a backup stroller for travelling.

Why you can trust GoodtoKnow. Our experienced Consumer Editor & parent reviewers spend hours testing products to help you make the best choice. Find out how we test and review products.

Hollie Bond and her one-year-old Margot tested out the Joie Tourist stroller to see if it was worthy of its travel-inspired name. In our buying guide to the  best travel strollers , we named this best travel pushchair for taking on a plane because it's stylish, light enough to carry, and easy to fold.

The Joie Tourist stroller is very easy to assemble. ‘I put it together in about five minutes while looking after my busy one-year-old,' said our tester Hollie. 'There are easy-to-follow instructions, but it’s so intuitive you don’t really need them.’ Once assembled, it is a super lightweight pushchair that would be ideal for parents going on holiday with their toddler or wanting something for daily use if they have a small car.

The Joie Tourist has an ‘amazing’ one-handed mechanism to fold it up and down. ‘You can hold your baby or toddler while collapsing and unfolding the pushchair easily,’ added Hollie. It's compact when folded and has a nifty carry handle. Other features include a decent-sized shopping basket, multi-recline positions and an adjustable handle which Hollie - whose husband is tall - particularly appreciated.

While comfortable for the pusher, Hollie struggled with the recline positions and thought the seat a little hard. She also thinks you’d have to invest in a footmuff in winter and a sunshade in summer as the hood doesn’t provide a huge amount of protection. In terms of value, this is a great mid-range option that would suit parents who want a light pushchair that's also compact and easy to get in and out of a car.

The Joie Tourist pushchair, one of the best travel strollers

VIEW AT JOHN LEWIS | £200.00

Stroller weight: 5.92kg | Age Range: Birth to three years  | Price: £200.00

Hollie’s first impression of the Joie Tourist was how light it is. At only 6kg, it’s perfect for taking off on an overseas holiday and you’ll have no worries about lifting it on and off the airport carousel, or in and out of the car boot. As well as its weight, Hollie was impressed by its size. ‘It’s quite a tall buggy (107cm in height), which is a real bonus for our family as my husband is very tall and we’ve struggled in the past to find pushchairs with high enough handles for him to comfortably push,’ she said. ‘The handle is easily adjustable too, so I could put it back to the right height for me very quickly.’

But the standout feature of the Joie Tourist is its brilliant, one-handed folding mechanism, which Hollie described as ‘by far the best I’ve seen on a buggy’. You simply squeeze and slide two buttons on the handle with one hand and the pushchair concertinas down into a three-way fold. To open it out again is just as simple. When it’s folded down, it’s compact enough to fit in a small car’s boot (with space for extra bags) and it has a carry handle so you can move it about when folded down very easily.

Comfort and features

The Joie Tourist uses straps and a buckle to keep children in place. The buckle is easy to click into place and the straps over the shoulder are nice and comfortable thanks to some very soft, spongy pads. The length can still be adjusted easily as the pads have poppers so you can remove them before changing the length of the straps. There’s also the option to have calf support in two positions. ‘As Margot is still quite young and has little legs I used the support in the horizontal position, but it’s good to know I can easily set it down for when she has longer legs,’ said Hollie. The wheels are pretty standard for a travel buggy but if they were any bigger you’d sacrifice how light it is.

One of the features Hollie didn’t like was the shape and design of the seat. The buggy has multi-position-recline options, however, while it’s great that it lies flat for naps, she found that it didn’t go up vertical enough. ‘There’s a simple drawstring to change the seat back position, but, however hard I tried, I could not get the back up straight enough for Margot to be comfortable when she was awake,’ she said. ‘She’s a very inquisitive girl so likes to see what’s going on and so was pulling forward a lot of the time rather than sitting back against the seat.’

Another slight gripe was the seat seemed quite hard and didn’t have particularly deep sides to it, so it isn’t the cosiest option. In terms of storage, the Joie Tourist's basket is average-to-good, but bigger nappy bags and handbags are quite hard to fit through the opening, so you’d want to have several smaller bags with you to make the most of the under-buggy basket.

Value for money

The Joie Tourist costs around £200. ‘There are much cheaper options out there and this feels like a middle of the market sort of price and product to me,’ said Hollie. ‘In terms of how the pushchair looks and feels, I’d say it’s a good mid-range travel option.’ She’d recommend this to busy parents who want a really light pushchair to take on holidays or days out. ‘Anyone who struggles to lift heavy baby products, or who has a small car, will love how light and compact this is and how easy it is to use one-handed,’ she added. It’s a chic-looking stroller, coming in a lovely soft grey, and the adjustable handle is comfy too so ticks the box for style-conscious parents.

Joie Signature Tourist pushchair review

Joie Signature Tourist

In a nutshell

The Joie Signature Tourist is a lightweight and compact pram, offering parents a convenient and flexible travel system option at a budget friendly price

What we tested

  • Easy one-hand fold, lightweight, compact when folded, large storage basket, good value for money
  • Unsteady on tight corners, firm seat, not overly comfortable/supportive for newborns, bumper bar flimsy when carried, fiddly recline mechanism

Showing item 1 of 4

Joie Signature Tourist

The Joie Signature Tourist is a lightweight and compact one-hand auto fold pushchair, niftily combining a carrycot, infant carrier and forward facing seat option “all in one sweet ride”. It’s a clever combination if you’re looking for something flexible and stylish without a hefty price tag. Sitting alongside the likes of the Baby Jogger City Tour 2 and the Chicco Goody, the Tourist currently retails at £200 for the pushchair element, with the carrycot, car seat adapters and additional extras sold separately.

Winning Joint Gold for Best lightweight pushchair in the MadeForMum Awards 2022, the Joie Signature Tourist offers a convenient option for both parents and baby/child, up to 15kg (around 3.5/4-years old).

Jen Thorne tested the Joie Signature Tourist pushchair with her 6-month-old son and 3-year-old daughter in Hertfordshire, tackling a variety of terrains including pebbles, pavements, grass and her local shopping centre.

What were your first impressions?

On first impressions, the Joie Signature Tourist looked stylish, giving it a more premium feel than the £200 price point might suggest. With its faux leather tan handle and matching detail on the seat, it is available in three colours: Oyster, Eclipse and Pine. Each colour is complemented with its own matching chassis, making it appear sleek and smart when teamed with its plush fabric. It also has a large, waterproof canopy with a UPF 50+ rating, making it ideal for both a summer holiday and a rainy walk in the park.

Joie Signature Tourist chassis

How easy was the Joie Signature Tourist to build?

The Joie Signature Tourist was really easy to put together and came complete with a clear instruction manual. However, this was not needed and it took less than five minutes to construct the pushchair without any hassle.

How does the latest version of the Joie Signature Tourist compare to older models?

The Joie Tourist first arrived on the pushchair scene in 2019, and it’s fair to say the pram has had a bit of a makeover since then. Curated as part of the brand’s Signature range, the Tourist now comes with more luxurious finishes such as magnetic buckles for securing even the wriggliest of toddlers and an adjustable calf support for added comfort. While some features remain the same such as its one-handed, compact fold and width of 47.1cm, the latest version is slightly heavier, with it now weighing 6.6kg compared to 5.92kg.

What is the Joie Signature Tourist like to push and steer?

My initial first impressions on pushing and steering my 6-month old in the Joie Signature Tourist were positive, with the pushchair handling our pebble driveway with ease. However with further use, the manoeuvring became more of an issue with the pram, especially when turning corners or steering with one hand. It felt very unsteady and less secure. This view was supported by MFM Awards judge Charlotte, who noted that while one hand pushing was possible, it was “not as easy or comfortable” and “two hands were needed a lot of the time”. When using the pushchair with my 3-year old, it felt more stable, a view supported by Maxine, one of our Home Testers who said the Tourist was “a dream” to manoeuvre and “easy to push” one-handed, so the weight of the child may influence its performance in this field.

How easy or difficult is it to fold the Joie Signature Tourist?

Like many online parent reviews suggest, a huge positive is how easy the Tourist is to either fold or unfold with one hand. As shown in this video , there is an easy slider button on the handle that makes it very easy to fold down. Once folded, it stays secure and easily props upright so can be stored in narrow spaces without issue.

When folded, how light and easy is it to carry the Joie Signature Tourist?

Described by Joie as “featherweight”, the Tourist is very light and easy to pick up one-handed. As well as a carry handle, the bumper bar doubles up as a handle for lifting when collapsed and while this is a clever feature, it did feel a little insecure. This was also spotted by MFM Awards judge Charlotte, who said that having to carry the pushchair using this bar felt “flimsy” and could be easily damaged. They also stated that when using the sturdier handle, the Tourist can unfold.

How compact is it when folded?

The pram folds easily and is relatively compact, measuring L:66.1xW47.1xH24.3cm wide, putting it alongside the likes of the Joolz Aer – L:53.5xW45xH21cm – for portability. The Tourist's dimensions mean it can easily fit into a car boot and depending on which airline, can be stowed as cabin baggage. Like other lightweight strollers in this field, the pushchair folds flat and self-stands, making it convenient to store around the house.

Joie Signature Tourist

Does the Joie Signature Tourist seat lie comfortably flat?

The pushchair seat does offer a lie-flat option, however, there is still a slight angle. My 6-month-old still enjoyed a snooze when it was fully reclined, but for a newborn, the support to stay in position was very limited. The back and seat are both fairly firm, so for a younger baby, the carrycot may be a suitable alternative. However, for my baby and toddler, they were perfectly comfortable and as noted by our Home Tester Maxine during the MFM Awards, whether in the lie-flat or sit-up position, there is “ample space” for the child. MFM judge Catherine adds: “The seat is well padded and it can easily recline if they want to nap.”

Joie Signature Tourist

How easy is it to recline the Joie Signature Tourist seat?

The recline function is controlled by a string and took a bit of practice (and an extra pair of hands) to get right. Once the cord is pulled to loosen, it can suddenly fall from sitting up right to lying flat, which could be a bit of a shock for the baby. Similarly, pushing back the seat upright also required some help in holding it in position, which was the most frustrating feature on the pushchair overall.

Does the Joie Signature Tourist come with a cocoon?

There is no cocoon or any extra comfort features for a newborn, and as mentioned previously, the carrycot addition may be more suitable for this age. Due to the angle of the pushchair seat, even when fully reclined, it is definitely more suitable as the baby gets a bit more sturdy, around 6-months plus.

Joie Signature Tourist

What's the chassis like?

The chassis is a matte, dark grey shade which compliments the fabric of the seat and it feels strong and durable. After testing the Tourist over different terrains, I noticed no scratching or damage to the chassis.

Do you like the design of the Tourist?

Some of the details, such as the tan leather handle and piping on the grey toned seat fabric, were nice touches, but I felt the pushchair has a slightly less modern feel compared to other compact or lightweight pram options.

Joie Signature Tourist

Is the Joie Signature Tourist handle adjustable?

It was a massive plus for my husband and I that the handlebar height was adjustable, as it made the pushchair comfortable for us to push along with ease. For that added bit of luxury, the handle is also padded, which makes it feel nice to grip and hold onto.

What did you think about the wheels?

The Joie Signature Tourist wheels are detachable, yet still feel sturdy, with brakes connected to the back two wheels. The wheels coped well on a variety of terrains, including a pebble driveway, path, grass and shopping centre floors. In fact, it was on the smoother surfaces where the Tourist felt its most unsteady, especially around corners. The brake is easy to operate both on and off and when applied, the pushchair feels secure.

What’s the storage basket like on the Joie Signature Tourist?

For a lightweight pram, the basket is a great size which is a big positive. It’s ideal for popping to the shops and filling with essentials rather than needing to precariously balance your shopping on the handle. Our MFM Awards Home Tester Maxine was also a massive fan of the basket, stating that it was a “useful” element and that the basket was “really spacious”.

Joie Signature Tourist basket

Can the Joie Signature Tourist be used with a car seat to create a travel system?

With Joie boasting that the Signature Tourist is “3 in 1 multitasker” to see a child “roll smoothly from a baby to a big kid”, you can also purchase a carrycot for £120 and car seat adaptors, which turns the pram from a compact option into a fully fledged travel system for those parents on a budget.

What’s in the box?

  • Joie Signature Tourist pushchair and storage basket
  • Carry strap

What should parents know before purchasing the Joie Signature Tourist?

After testing the pram and knowing more about the ability to turn it into a travel system, the Tourist is a great option for anyone looking for a compact buggy for everyday use, that can also easily be taken on holiday. It can be folded into a small space for easy storage and, while it might not be the most modern of pushchairs out there, for £200 it’s fantastic value for that level of flexibility (although travel system add-ons are additional) and offers a pram to see you through from early months into toddler life and beyond.

Who would the Joie Signature Tourist be most useful for?

This pushchair is ideal for someone who is on a budget but wants to get a one-pram option that is lightweight but also offers a travel system functionality. Also, because of its compact fold and featherweight frame, it could also be a great choice for families who want a second stroller for travel.

MadeForMums verdict:

The Joie Signature Tourist is a pushchair that ticks almost all of the boxes. It’s great value, lightweight, folds easily and offers a travel system function. Whilst it might not be the most fashionable of options out there, it does offer a lot of practicality. It is perfect for those families who are struggling to decide between a big travel system pram or a lightweight holiday friendly option, with the Tourist offering a happy medium for both, at a reasonable price.

Product Specifications

Joie Tourist

The Joie Tourist is new for 2019, and straightaway awarded the Red Dot award 2019. This ultralight stroller with a compact fold and a seat that can be reclined fully is also compatible with the Ramble carrycot and Joie car seats. Other Maxi-Cosi-type car seats can also be added to the stroller. Thanks to the width of only 47.1cm, when folded, the stroller is accepted as cabin luggage by some airlines. The folding is also simplified by the fact that after its unlocking, the stroller folds practically by itself. True to its name, the Tourist is an excellent companion for holidays and trips, even with babies from birth.

Joie Tourist Features & Specifications

The seat unit, the canopy (hood), the bumper bar, the suspension, the handlebar, the carrycot, the car seat, the accessories & extra features, best deals for joie tourist, parent reviews of the joie tourist, a disappointment.

  • One hand opening and closure
  • Lightweight
  • Decent size basket
  • Stiff and noisy wheels that get stuck on all terrains
  • Harness system unsafe
  • Not enough canopy coverage
  • Flimsy handlebar

Unfortunately this stroller was a disappointment. I already have the Joie Versatrax travel system, and it worked well, so I thought I could buy the lightweight option from the same brand. This stroller is not sturdy, the adjustable handle makes it more flimsy and doesn’t really add anything in terms of comfort. The straps are an absolute nightmare, they come off while using the stroller, and even if the magnetic closure is a good idea, but the overall harness system doesn’t seem safe. The worst part of this stroller though, is that the wheels are stiff and literally get stuck at even the smallest crack or uneven surface. A very uncomfortable experience for both parent and baby. The one hand closure system works well and it’s handy. The footrest is included and comfortable. The canopy doesn’t provide enough coverage unfortunately. Overall, not a great option, despite the competitive price.

It's a travel stroller, so it's perfect for vacations and going to the mall

  • Adjustable handle
  • Adjustable backrest
  • Adjustable leg rest
  • Spacious basket
  • Shoulder strap
  • Stroller storage bag (you won't get your car boot dirty)
  • Smaller wheels
  • Incline of the seat

We are very satisfied with the stroller. Very well made English pram. It is light - less than 6 kg, and not at all unstable. It is compact and takes up a minimum of space when folded. It fits a larger child as well.

The handle is adjustable, so it is also suitable for taller parents. It has an adjustable backrest, up to full lie flat. The leg rest can also be adjusted. The basket under the pram is quite roomy. The seating is a little bit sort of tilted back, which bothered me at first, but our son doesn't mind it and he likes the stroller and likes to sit there. The wheels are tiny, but they can go over bumps and small stones. Of course, it's not for very bumpy roads - it's a travel stroller, so it's perfect for vacations and going to the mall ;-).

The child is, unfortunately, simply not comfortable in the seat

  • ease of use
  • small folded size
  • the child is simply not comfortable in the seat
  • not spacious enough for that weight capacity

I like the ease of use and the small folded size, but the child is, unfortunately, simply not comfortable in the seat. It is also not spacious enough for that weight capacity.

Not worth your money

Not worth your money.

Apart from the canopy size and the backrest, I have no other objections

  • easy to manage
  • can take the weight
  • holds and unfolds by itself/one button
  • small canopy
  • the backrest cannot be upright

We have been using it from the beginning as a 3in1 because you can buy a Joie compatible basket for a newborn.

The stroller is feather light and resistant, it fits behind the seat in the car, very easy to manage on the roads as we drove them on macadam and rough roads without any problems (only gravel was the problem).

The canopy could be bigger, it needs 10 cm to be parallel with the seat and to provide full shade. The backreast cannot be placed under 90 in sitting position and the baby is really laid back.

It carries a lot more than 15 / 22kg because I used it almost like a working stroller (drove the baby + everything from the market + a couple of tens of kg of soil for flowers in the basket below). Honestly, apart from the canopy size and the backrest, I have no other objections and we really squeezed maximum from it.

My boy cries when he’s in it because he can’t sit up straight

  • Light weight
  • Folds up easily
  • Feels like it’s going to fall to bits when you push it
  • The seat isn’t upright, my little boy looks so uncomfortable in it
  • The wheels are so small

I bought this pushchair to go on holiday with but it was a complete waste of money as my little boy hates it. He cries when he’s in it because he can’t sit up straight and he’s so uncomfortable. So I’ve now got to purchase another one.

The seat is spacious enough, but it's very slanted

  • lightweight
  • quick-folding
  • adjustable handlebar
  • the seat is very slanted - I wish it would be more upright
  • small, noisy wheels
  • too much give in the handle - it moves more than I'd like

The seat is spacious enough, but it's very slanted (my kid slides down a bit). It is a compromise to the price, but for occasional use, it will do.

It's light and compact

We got this pram because my wife has to carry it upstairs (2nd floor) daily. It's light and compact for that, she's happy about that.

Too many downsides for the price and promises of this nice stroller

  • Does not hold the seat in its position (my baby weights 20 pounds)
  • Seat does not go upright, the baby is half seated like on a swimming pool bench
  • Front wheels are too small, gets stuck in minimal imperfections on the sidewalk

The system to hold the seat in the upright position is too weak. In less than a month, it was damaged. Also, the seat does not get to sit upright, which looks very uncomfortable. Finally, the front wheels are too weak, and the stroller gets stuck on the minimal batch on the sidewalk or stone. The rest is fine, but it has too many downsides for the price and promises of this nice stroller.

You have to keep in my its not an expensive buggy

  • padded seat
  • full recline
  • adjustable - rotating handle
  • one-hand recline (inklining is two-handed, though)
  • the wheels take in a lot of gravel
  • the hood is very short
  • the seat is angled
  • foam-covered handlebar
  • noisy on cobblestones
  • straps to recline feel weak and cheap

Fo holidays and trips only, it's a good pushchair. Other than that, I keep in our car as a spare, so it usually goes out only when doing a lot of shopping or at the grandma's. Works fine like that. You have to keep in my it's not an expensive buggy.

Your questions about the Joie Tourist

Will my 17kg and tall (109cm) 3 year old fit in this in emergencies? That is, when she absolutely refuses to walk. I'm mainly looking at this for a small back up/travel pram for my 10 month old, but it would be useful if it could hold the 3 year old for 10 minutes.

Looking to get a stroller under £200 if you have any other suggestions. The pram doesn't have to be airplane approved but must be lightweight.

If truly only in emergencies, you can definitely fit your tall little one in it. It won't be a spacious, high comfort ride, but it will do. As I learned with my sons, in an emergency, ANYTHING will do really, even if a tight fit.

I would also suggest the Ickle Bubba Globe in that price, and also the Chicco Goody+ (should be in John Lewis).

I was hesitating to buy it due to reviews about the seat... I want to know if it will be comfortable for my baby, the seat on it, and his back will be straight and comfy?!

Hello, Hala,

To be honest, no, it is not a very comfy seat. It is not straight/upright, it is at a very slanted angle so many children are sliding down, being held just by the harness. This is truly just an occasional stroller and for sure not a comfort stroller for everyday/multiple hours' use.

Joie Baby Tourist review

Joie Baby Tourist

At a glance:

The Joie Tourist Best Stroller is a quality, lightweight b stroller which you can pack away in a quick one-hand fast fold action, making any trip out with your little one effortless.

How did this product make your life easier?

Kirsty:  There are several features on this stroller that make my life easier as a mum. It is so lightweight and easy to fold and carry, which helps me so much when I'm trying to fold and lift it in and out of the car with my baby in one arm. The stroller is quite compact so I am able to fit it in the car even when I have a boot full of shopping or camping gear, so it is very useful to take on holidays when boot space is limited. There is a handy button that keeps the crotch pad attached to the buckle which is really helpful for me since I usually find that the crotch pads on other pushchairs and car seats are always falling off and going missing. One of the most useful things about this stroller for me is being able to attach my Cybex car seat onto it. This makes my life so much easier when I'm popping in and out of several shops when my daughter has fallen asleep in the car.

Ellie:  This product is amazing for any parent who relies on only one hand! The fact the pram collapses and opens up with ease is such a game-changer and it is so light and easy to pick up. In the past, I have had to put my baby in the car seat first before I can collapse the pram and pack away in the car, but with an unsettled baby this can be really difficult. The tourist means you can keep hold of your baby up until the last minute and then get in the car and go. The shoulder strap is so helpful because it eliminates the awkward pram carry that usually results in bashed legs and trapped fingers. It really is a brilliant pram for making life that bit easier when out and about and you're trying to juggle children and dogs!

Sophie:  I liked the tourist stroller and think it provides value for money. The biggest selling point in my opinion is the quick, one-handed, folding action which means the pram can be easily stored away/ moved around. This would definitely make day to day life much easier. It’s extremely compact when folded, taking up limited space in the car boot. Once folded the strap means the stroller can be easily carried/ moved around. It can also stand in the folded position. Overall, the pram feels of high quality.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Nikki:  Yes - it lacks features that some of the larger travel systems offer such as larger wheels, larger under storage, larger hood - but for value for money, this pram can do it all if you wanted only one pram. It would also be great as a second pram if used for travel and as a bonus is quite smart and sleek in design and also seems comfy for little ones.

Emily:  It’s a great lightweight pushchair that folds easily. It is beautifully designed and there are some great features such as the deep sunshade and decent storage. The leather handle is very comfortable and it feels spacious without feeling bulky. The pushchair moves smoothly and feels well-made. Overall I would say it is a high-quality pushchair.

Hollie:  I’d recommend it as a cheap solution to a lightweight buggy, however, if the budget would allow I would suggest people opt for something more. I dislike the fact that you move the back of the buggy up and down with a drawstring, I find this to be a very cheap and ineffective way to make a comfy ride for baby. I also found the straps difficult to adjust so Oscar wasn’t as securely fastened as I would have liked.

Would you choose this product to win?

Amie:  I would choose this product over others for the UPF 50+ and water repellent canopy is perfect and saves carrying or using an umbrella or sunshade. It's great not having to remember things as I have enough to remember to take out. It is featherweight and this is what I would need in a stroller and how small and easy it folds.

Pip:  I would perhaps for a summer pram as I think the seat is quite exposed to the wind and in the winter it would be quite cold for the baby and or child. Someone like me who has two dogs and walks every day in rain or shine needs something a lot sturdier and able to be protected from the elements. However as a pram for those rare days that I go out into town, it would be great.

Jenny:  Yes I would actually. At the moment I have the ‘dinosaur’ Cosatto stroller, as I love the fun design, but I would absolutely go for this stroller if I were in need of a new one, as I loved the value for money and the compact fold.

What changes would you make to this product?

Kirsty:  If I could change one thing about the Joie Tourist stroller, I would make it more sturdy and stable so that it doesn't feel like it can topple over. I love that it is really lightweight, but it does mean that it feels like it might tip backwards when it's standing still or sideways when you turn corners. This makes me feel on edge when I am using this stroller with my baby, especially when it feels like my toddler could accidentally knock it over when running past. I would feel much more comfortable with the stroller if it felt more stable on the ground.

Ellie:  I would change the colour of the carrying strap because every time I folded the pram down I struggled to find it due to the fabric all being black. This did sort of defeat the purpose of being able to fold one-handed because it then is fiddly to have to rummage around looking for the strap! Although I appreciate the pram has to be kept quite basic due to its need to be light, I did find the seat quite basic and not particularly comfortable for my daughter. The seat and back are quite hard with minimal padding. Whilst she was absolutely fine in it for a time, it's not the sort of pram I would want her in for a long day. Not only is the seat quite hard, but it also doesn't sit completely upright. I can see how this would be great for a smaller baby, but my 15-month-old couldn't really see what was going on around her. I also found that putting a blanket over her was quite hard because there wasn't really much space to tuck it into, which wouldn't be ideal in the winter.

Nikki:  I would change two things - the size of the hood - or at least the ability to easily attach something to it to block out the sun if needed. The hood is so shallow I'm not sure whether it provides any benefit at all. Secondly, I would make sure that the seat was more upright when in the 'fully upright' position as my toddler likes to sit upright so he can be very nosey!

I'm a Travel Writer, and I Always Pack These 12 Amazon Essentials for International Trips, From $9

Shop must-have compression packing cubes, portable travel scales, and weekender bags.

joie tourist accessories

Travel + Leisure / Tyler Roeland

In my years as a frequent international flier and Italian travel writer , I’ve come to learn (sometimes the hard way) that the items you pack can greatly impact your experience of being suspended some 30,000 feet in the air in a metal contraption for over six hours at a time. My biggest takeaway: it pays to be prepared.

Through trial and error, I’ve fine-tuned my travel essentials packing list to include everything from spinner carry-on suitcases and compression packing cubes to portable luggage scales and travel adapters. The good news is that all of my favorite items can be found at Amazon, and they're starting at just $9. So without further ado, these are the 12 travel essentials I always pack to make my international flights smooth and stress-free, whether I’m traveling around the world to slake my newest destination obsession or returning home to Italy.

Gonex Compression Packing Cubes

I never understood the hype around compression packing cubes until I tried them out for myself during a recent week-long road trip through Ireland . This bundle of four from Amazon-loved brand Gonex, in sizes ranging from S to XL, can compress a wardrobe's worth of clothes and is great for an overpacker such as me. I recently used them on a 10-day trip home to Rome and still had plenty of room left in my carry-on suitcase for shoes and toiletries. Now that I’m officially a compression packing cube believer, they come with me on every international trip.

Travel Inspira Portable Digital Travel Scale

Any overpacker knows the pain of reaching the airport check-in desk and having to pay an exorbitant fee for overweight luggage — believe me, I’ve had to reluctantly shell out cash more than once. As a precaution, I purchased this small portable digital scale, I haven’t paid any overweight baggage fees since (much to my wallet’s pleasure). Compact enough to pack away into a personal item, the easy-to-use scale can weigh your luggage in both pounds and kilograms. Currently on sale at Amazon for $10, it’s a handy gadget that could potentially save you hundreds of dollars at the airport.

Twelve South AirFly Bluetooth Wireless Audio Transmitter

There’s nothing quite like watching a movie on an international flight with a handful of snacks and a crisp glass of ginger ale, at least in my opinion. However, I’ve had my movie experience ruined a handful of times by the subpar earphones handed out on flights, which can never quite drone out the airplane’s engines or fit right in my ears. This traveler-loved, pocket-sized Bluetooth audio transmitter lets me connect my wireless earphones to the airplane’s seatback television, so I can enjoy crisp audio quality without any wires getting in the way. It has vastly improved my international flight experience, and at a humble $35, is worth every penny.

Samsonite Freeform Hardside Expandable Spinner Carry-on Suitcase

A sturdy carry-on suitcase is always with me whenever I travel internationally, either as my primary luggage or simply for extra space in the (probable) case my European shopping sprees get out of hand. I always make sure that my carry-on is a spinner suitcase, which I find is easier to navigate busy airports and cities with.

While I just invested in the Samsonite DLX Voltage Global spinner carry-on , you can snag this lookalike at Amazon from the same Travel + Leisure -trusted brand. It comes with smart features like expandable sides, TSA-approved locks, and an interior divider pocket. And, with 10,000-plus five-star ratings from Amazon shoppers, it’s not surprising that it’s currently the best seller in the carry-on luggage category .

Tessan Universal Travel Adapter

A universal travel adapter is a must-have for any international trip, which is why I always have one or two on hand. This one from Tessan is one of my favorites because of its wide coverage — it can work in over 150 countries across Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Plus, it comes with four USB ports that can charge up to five devices at a time, so it’s a great option if you’re traveling with family or friends.

Although the device can be a bit bulky to pack away, I always keep one in my checked suitcase and one in my carry-on or personal item bag in case of long layovers and missed or canceled flights.

Apple AirTags 4-pack

Apple AirTags are my absolute best friends when I travel. Not only do they give me peace of mind when I fly and have layovers, but they’ve also helped me track my lost luggage more times than I can count. I was once able to see that my suitcase had been left behind in Dublin during a layover flying from Boston to Rome, and was able to track it when it eventually arrived in Italy and was making its way to my house via an airport worker.

I also use them in my everyday life to keep a close eye on my keys and wallet, and have yet to change their battery even though I’ve had them for two years. Although pricey, they’re worth the investment — and the good news is that they’re currently 20 percent off at Amazon.

Amazon Fire 10-inch Tablet

Bibliophiles know the power of a good book and are well acquainted with how easy it can be to lose track of time when you’re engrossed in a story. My paper-thin Amazon Fire tablet, which easily fits into my personal item or carry-on suitcase, is always on me when I travel, and I can easily pass the hours reading a book or two on particularly long flights.

The Amazon Fire tablet doesn’t just stop at books, though — you can play games (I’m a big fan of in-flight Solitaire), catch a movie or show via Netflix or Disney+, listen to music on Spotify, and even jump on a Zoom call. It’s an incredibly versatile device that’s great for traveling, and to sweeten the deal, it’s currently on sale for $95.

Topbag Family Passport Holder

As a triple citizen, I always carry all my passports with me when I travel, which can be a bulky ordeal. While mine was gifted to me years ago, this TopBag Family Passport Holder is a close match. Capable of holding up to six passports, which is ideal for families or friends traveling together, the wallet also comes with a cash pocket and six card slots so you can keep all your essentials in one, easy-to-reach place. It’s slim enough to fit into a personal item and comes with a handy strap that you can wear around your wrist for easy access.

Miady Dual USB Portable Chargers 2-pack

This pack of two pocket-sized portable chargers , roughly the same size as an Apple iPhone, is essential for long international flights, especially ones with layovers. I’ve brought these all over the world with me, from Iceland and Ireland to Rome and India. They're small enough to fit into a crossbody bag and each portable charger comes with two USB ports that can charge two devices at a time, which I usually use to juice up my cell phone and Amazon Fire tablet during long flights. Currently on sale for $18, these portable chargers have enough power to get you anywhere you need to be and back, as their near-76,000 five-star ratings can attest to.

Uto 3-in-1 Crossbody Bag

I purchased this crossbody bag for a recent week-long road trip through Ireland , and have since crowned it my official travel purse for its durability, ample storage features, and sleek silhouette. It can easily survive the wear and tear of traveling long distances thanks to its water-and-scratch resistant synthetic-washed leather exterior — seriously, it emerged from my Ireland trip virtually unscathed despite suffering comical amounts of wind, rain, and mud.

What's more, the crossbody bag comes with three zippered compartments, one of them detachable, plus a removable chest-level coin purse. Inside, I can fit my three passports, wallet, keys, lip balms, hand creams, Apple AirPods, portable charger, and phone cable — with room to spare. The bag’s budget-friendly price tag, now on sale for $23, is just the cherry on top.

Monogrammed Luggage Tag

Trying to find your suitcase at baggage claim can be tricky, which is why I make mine stand out with this small but chic monogrammed luggage tag. Made from supple PU leather, the black luggage tag is virtually scratch-free and comes with a subtle privacy shield to cover your personal information. It’s an extra step to ensure that my bases are covered in case my luggage gets lost, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s pretty cute, too.

Etronik Weekender Bag

Weekender bags are all the rage these days, and for good reason. They’re sleek, spacious, and easy to carry — essential criteria for any kind of travel. I usually bring my flight attendant-loved Béis Mini Weekender Bag with me on international flights for its sturdy exterior, stiff-zippered bottom shoe compartment, and ample storage space. For those who don’t want to splurge on Béis’ $98 version , you can score this budget-friendly weekender from Amazon-loved brand Etronik (which I also own) is on sale for $36.

Available in over 20 color and pattern variations, the Etronik Weekender Bag features a bottom zippered shoe compartment, a USB charging port, a toiletry bag, two shoe bags, and a detachable and adjustable shoulder strap. Because of these smart features, which have earned it over 7,000 five-star ratings, I used the bag every weekend for nearly a year when taking four-hour bus rides between Boston and New York City. Even though I’ve now upgraded to Béis, the Etronik bag is still in great shape and ready to go when I need it.

Going on vacation these are the best travel essentials for apple devices.

Avatar for Ryan Christoffel

It’s vacation season, and whether you’re heading out of town for some much-needed rest, or just traveling for work as usual, the accessories you travel with can make a world of difference.

Here are the best travel essentials for Apple devices.

Connect to plane’s TV with AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones

AirFly SE from Twelve South

For as wonderful as Bluetooth headphones can be, the one place they can disappoint is when you want to watch something on an airplane. In-flight TVs typically require using a standard 3.5mm headphone jack to connect.

That’s where the AirFly SE audio transmitter comes in. AirFly plugs into a standard headphone jack and creates a wireless signal that enables your AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones to connect to the TV. It feels a bit like magic.

Keep your battery charged on the go

Chargers for iPhone and Apple Watch

Apple no longer makes its iPhone MagSafe Battery, but there’s a much more affordable alternative anyways. Anker’s MagSafe portable iPhone charger attaches magnetically to your iPhone to provide charge on the go. It comes in a variety of great colors, and can be recharged using USB-C.

If you need a lot more charging juice, this portable power bank packs a whopping 26800mah of capacity. It’s a lot of power that can charge a variety of devices, while still being TSA-safe for taking on the plane with you.

Finally, if you’re looking for a convenient Apple Watch charging solution, this keychain Watch charger is the way to go. Snap it on your keychain and charge up as needed throughout the day, then recharge it via USB-C.

Reduce packing clutter

3-in-1 charger and laptop sleeve

My favorite 3-in-1 charger for my iPhone, Watch, and AirPods just happens to be perfect for travel, too. Rather than dealing with a lot of different charging bricks and cables, this 3-in-1 solution uses a single cable and brick, and can be easily collapsed for taking up minimal space in your bag.

  • Hands-on: I finally found the 3-in-1 iPhone charger I’ve been looking for

Another great way to upgrade your packing game, while better protecting your Mac or iPad, is to use a sleeve. I recommend this sleeve for Mac or this one for iPad . It keeps your bag organized, your device safe, and can be taken out for on-the-go outings.

Block out airplane noise

Sonos Ace

There is no shortage of solid noise-canceling headphones out there. I’m partial to the AirPods Pro 2 , but over-ears will better physically isolate external sounds. You can’t go wrong with any of the following options, ranked from least to most pricey:

  • Bose QuietComfort
  • AirPods Max

Don’t let your bags get lost

AirTag

It may go without saying, but a list of travel essentials would be incomplete without the AirTag. Throw one in every bag, on your keys, on any valuable item you’re bringing with you—that way, if something happens you’re not out of luck. You can get a discounted 4-pack or just buy one .
