Hello everyone, Would it be possible to use the preposition in after the noun trip instead of to ? In that case, is there any difference in meaning? Example: - a) The had organized a trip in [region/state/defined area/city - e.g. Normandy, California, the Alps, Berlin ] - b) They were on a trip in [region/state/defined area/city] Thank you .

"in" and "to" in a sentence about trips have slightly different meanings. They had organized a trip in Normandy. This sounds like they are already in Normandy, traveling around and seeing things. They had organized a trip to Normandy. This sounds like they are still back at home, waiting for the trip to start. But really, the difference is not very big, and everyone would understand you whichever word you used.  

If you are trying to emphasize that they visited several places in that location I would use "around". They organized a trip around Normandy.

Real ID deadline is rapidly approaching, what to know about the new flight requirement

The really real deadline to make your state-issued identified card, or driver’s license Real ID compliant will be here before you know it. 

And you won’t be fly domestically after 2025 without it. The government has been trying to make Real IDs a thing for a while, initially passing The Real ID act in 2005 in an attempt to set “minimum security standards” for state-issued identification documents.

The law was set to take effect in 2020 but was pushed back by the Department of Homeland Security over “backlogged transactions” at MVD offices nationwide as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to USA TODAY reporting . 

The May 2025 extension was necessary, DHS says, as state driver’s licensing agencies worked to address the mountains of paperwork, which in turn impacted the MVD’s ability to make any real progress on the Real ID rollout. 

“Following the enforcement deadline, federal agencies, including the Transportation Security Administration, will be prohibited from accepting driver’s licenses and identification cards that do not meet these federal standards,” DHS said in 2022.

That means every every traveler, 18 or older, must have a compliant form of identification in order to travel.

Here’s what to know. 

When does Real ID go into effect? 

The Real ID “full enforcement date” is Wednesday, May 7, 2025, according to DHS. 

When will a Real ID be required to fly?

You or your loved ones need to have a Real ID compliant document, driver’s license or identification card, by May 7, 2025. 

If you have another form of identification that is TSA-approved, like an up to date passport or a permanent resident card then you probably don’t need a Real ID compliant document.

Here are a couple TSA-approved alternatives, if you’re on the fence about getting a Real ID.

• State issued enhanced driver’s license
•  DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
• U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued to dependents
• Border crossing card
• An acceptable photo ID issued by a federally recognized Tribal Nation/Indian Tribe
•  HSPD-12 PIV card
• Foreign government-issued passport
•  Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada card
• Transportation worker identification credential
• U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
• U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential
•  Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)

How long does it take to get a Real ID?

It will take about two weeks , or 15 business days to get your Real ID or Enhanced Driver’s License from your state's Motor Vehicle Department.

Enhanced driver’s licenses, which are only issued in a couple of states, including Washington, Michigan, Minnesota, New York and Vermont, are considered acceptable alternatives to REAL ID-compliant cards, DHS says. 

How do I know if I have a Real ID? 

All Real IDs will have a stamp on the right hand corner to show that the identification document meets federal standards set forth by The Real ID Act of 2005. 

The symbol stamped on your Real ID card will vary, depending on which state you obtain your new identification card from. 

What does a Real ID look like? 

Your Real ID will have most, if not all of the information that’s included on your driver’s license. 

The only difference is the seal included in the right-hand corner.

As a parent, I make the most of work trips to turn them into vacations. I schedule lunches instead of dinners so I can sleep.

On a recent work trip to New York City, I had dinner with my boss. At 5:30, we went to a casual pizza place, and I was back in my hotel room by 7:30 and asleep shortly after. It was a far cry from what work dinners used to look like when I traveled.

My first business trip was a sales conference in San Diego in 2009. I was barely 24, and the whirlwind lineup of client happy hours, fancy dinners, and late-night networking was exhilarating. Traveling for work felt like I had arrived in the corporate world. For the next 10 years or so, every time I took a business trip, I reveled in all of the late-night activities.

I've always loved taking business trips

Trips usually meant spending eight hours in back-to-back meetings followed by what felt like another eight hours of social activities with clients and colleagues. But they also usually meant drinking nice wine and eating at restaurants that I couldn't afford on my own at the time on the company's dime.

Travel left me drained and ready to crawl into bed when I got home, but I still loved doing it. I didn't know any other way to do it; I thought business travel had to be done this way to build strong relationships with coworkers and clients. However, I've learned that's not the case, and I do things a little differently these days.

The way I travel changed after I had kids

Business travel used to be and still is a treat, but I look forward to very different things when I take a trip now. Travel used to mean a couple of days away to have fun and stay up late. Now trips are an escape from parenting and a way to recharge. They almost feel like a mini vacation .

It's a few days where I don't have to cook, clean, or be responsible for anyone else.

Instead of getting excited about nice wine or fancy dinners, I get excited about the comped hotel room and the per diem that will cover a fancy coffee or two. Most importantly, though, I cannot explain the level of giddiness I feel about getting a solid, uninterrupted eight hours of sleep a night when I travel.

With the end goal of sleep, I have changed how I approach the day when I'm on the road. Instead of team dinners, I opt for taking my team to lunch. Instead of a happy hour with a coworker or client, I opt for a coffee break or walk and talk around the city. I've also had early morning breakfast meetings, which I prefer to a late night out, even if it means cutting my sleep short.

By doing this, I maximize the daytime hours as best as I can so that I can get back to the hotel, watch a few hours of mindless TV, and go to sleep. If I can order delivery to my hotel room, even better. It's still a long day, and I'm still exhausted at the end of it by trying to fit in as many meetings and relationship-building opportunities as possible. But I'm able to muscle through the days because I keep what's waiting for me at the finish line, a 9:30 bedtime, in the back of my mind.

Changing how I travel hasn't had a negative consequence at work. Swapping business dinners for lunches still means I get dedicated face time with people, but it also means that I can enjoy a break from parenthood while I'm away. It's a win-win.
