Pacha Mama Spirit

Pacha Mama Spirit is a Peruvian travel agency born in Cusco, which is known as the navel of the world, the ancient capital of the Inca empire . Our team has developed a list of tours that allows the visitor to enjoy the best that Peru has to offer such as adventure, culture, hiking, history, gastronomy, exclusivity and a Pacha Mama Spirit team, who loves Peru and everything it offers us. Peru has one of the richest biodiversities in the world, thanks to the Andes mountain range, which crosses the country forming coast, mountains and jungle on its way, and with each natural region brings with it another considerable amount of microclimates. This makes Peru a country rich in diversity of natural products, unique landscapes, and an extensive gastronomy among others. Peru was also the main site of the Tahuantinsuyo, which was erected by the Incas, the largest and most developed culture in South America. These men built fortresses made of gigantic stones, which have endured over time and today are part of the present day, conserving their greatness. In this way, Peru becomes a country that has a lot to offer its visitors.

Testimonials

Our travelers say it best

This trip was not only a trip, it was a human adventure, a jungle discovery, a nature bath, an english and spanish class, a group coaching session, a wisdom inspiration, and a way to protect nature. I just loved it, one of the best things of my life.

Our eco-journey with the Pachamama Alliance exceeded all our expectations. The leadership is great, everything is very well organized, so that you can fully relax and lean into the experience. We very much enjoyed the small group size as it allows for an intimate and deep exchange with the Indigenous people. It was a beautiful and deeply transformative journey, hard to capture in words.

My journey into the rainforest with Pachamama surpassed expectations! Far beyond the typical eco-tourism experience, the trip provided opportunities to be with and learn from Indigenous peoples in a natural manner. Both the Pachamama and local guides were highly skilled and cared well for the group. The trip taught me much about the rainforest and its peoples, but also a great deal about myself.

First off I'll say that Pachamama Alliance is very thoughtful in the preparation of this journey. They anticipate your needs, so you always feel fully supported in everything; bathroom comfort, food restrictions, physical and emotional needs. The complete unplug that you experience on this journey gives you tremendous clarity. And then there's one more element....the difference you can make by taking time to bare witness to the lives of the Indigenous tribes so you can truly hear and understand them. Just sign up. You won't be disappointed and you're in loving hands with Pachamama Alliance.

The Rainforest trip was THE most liberating experience I have ever had in my entire life. I’m free. This journey changed my life completely.

This is the journey of a lifetime, one I will repeat. I have been on many learning journeys throughout my life. I feel as if they were all leading to this one. It was awesome, in the highest sense of that word. I was awed, humbled, inspired and embraced by the experience.

I can’t think of an experience that would parallel my trip with the Pachamama Alliance. It is simultaneously entertaining, relaxing, and transformational. Furthermore, the trip is structured and led in such a way that I never had to think about what I was going to do next, which really allowed me to be in the present with those around me.

I have been to 78 countries and visited shamans and Indigenous tribes before. This was the best trip I have ever been on! The participants were open, well prepared, and well traveled. The guide was the most personal and involved guide I have experienced. The scenery was magnificent. The meals were great. The spiritual insights will evolve with me slowly over time. The Indigenous were generally un-Westernized. The purpose for the trip, of saving the rainforest and Indigenous ways of life, was an overarching meaning for our experiences. I can’t say enough about how wonderful this trip was!

This journey is way more than a trip to the Amazon. It is a journey into a deeper relationship with yourself and our home, Pachamama. Be prepared to be surprised, challenged, moved to tears, tenderly comforted and changed forever.

The journey was absolutely amazing – transformative in a cellular sense for which I am profoundly grateful. My sense of connection, and interconnection with our Earth, has been multiplied, deepened, expanded.

My journey into the heart of the rainforest with Pachamama was one of the most potent experiences of my life. I had the feeling of being guided back in time as I went deeper into my own true self. I returned so alive and much more awakened to my life’s greater purpose.

This journey changed my life. Being in the rainforest with the Achuar was transformative on many levels. Coming from the chaotic and confusing world as we know it, the rainforest provided the quiet, contemplative space that allowed me to listen to my heart and come to know what had always been there – such a gift.

A trip with the Pachamama Alliance to Ecuador is an absolutely extraordinary experience. It gave me a unique opportunity to deeply engage in who I am as a leader and a citizen of the world. It was one of the most transformational and strengthening journeys of my life.

This journey will change your life—profoundly!

This journey for me was about rediscovering purpose, passion, possibility and power in everyday life. I am not only re-inspired and recommitted to making a difference, I am also profoundly aware of how we are all connected in ways we cannot imagine.

The trip was joyful, inspiring and has given me the gift of BEING in connection with everything, not just knowing it intellectually.

This journey is a work of art! It has everything — beauty, mystery, education and fun.

Frequently Asked Questions

When you travel with us on this experiential learning adventure, you’ll benefit from 20 years of familiarity with the land, culture, traditions and people. Our itineraries are thoughtfully organized and skillfully curated, making your time in Ecuador as seamless as possible and freeing you to focus fully on the experience.

What does the payment include?

The cost of the trip includes meals, lodging, transportation, guides, and equipment within Ecuador. It does not include international air travel to and from Quito, gratuities, or optional activities such as shamanic experiences. Dates, prices, and itineraries are subject to change.

Please note that your Journey fee is priced to cover program expenses alone. It does not include a donation to help finance the overall work of the Pachamama Alliance, and there will be an opportunity toward the end of your Journey to continue your partnership with the Pachamama Alliance and our partners in Ecuador.

How do I register?

If you are ready to book your Journey, simply select the the trip from our upcoming dates .  schedule a meeting with Steve Torneten who can walk you through the registration process.-->

When and where should I arrive/depart?

Your experience with Pachamama Alliance will begin and end in Quito, Ecuador and participants make their own flight arrangements. The dates of your journey include travel dates both into and out of Quito – for example, if your journey is scheduled for May 6 – 17, you should plan on arriving at the designated hotel (included in trip fee) by midnight on May 6. There will not be any group activities planned for the 17th and you will be free to begin your travel back home that morning. While it is fine to arrive and depart on the specific travel days, we do recommend that you arrive one or more days early to rest and acclimate to the altitude of the Andes. It also ensures that possible travel delays do not hold you up from joining the group on time. After the journey is complete, participants often find it helpful to have a day or two to integrate the experience before heading back home.

What ages travel with you?

Our trips have included travelers from age 8 to over 80. Children and teens are welcome and, in our experience, have made great additions to groups, adding a multi-generational touch and perspective.

Are vaccinations required?

While the Center for Disease Control recommends certain vaccinations, neither Ecuador nor Pachamama Journeys require any vaccinations to enter the country. Some of our participants choose to pursue the full spectrum of vaccinations, while others choose not to have any. Please consult with your personal physician or local travel clinic for advice on your specific needs.

What about malaria?

Since the rainforest region where we travel does have a history of malaria, we recommend you consult with your personal physician for advice on what preventative measures you should take.

Is it advisable to bring gifts for our hosts?

While gift giving is a generous and common practice throughout the world, we are trying to minimize our impact on the cultures and territories we visit. And due to the shared nature of Achuar society, giving gifts to individuals can disrupt the balance of the community. Certain unplanned acts of generosity that emerge organically on the journey are natural, but please do not burden yourself or our Indigenous partners with lots of ‘stuff’. The biggest gift for them is your presence and partnership.

What are some other places to visit if I decide to come early or stay on in Ecuador?

The Galapagos Islands are part of Ecuador and a fascinating place to visit. The area of Vilcabamba in the southern part of the country is beautiful and well prepared for visitors as well. For a very relaxing stay following your journey, the Termas Papallacta hotel and hot springs is just 1.5 hours outside of Quito.

What kind of clothes should I bring?

A complete packing list will be provided to you to guide you as you prepare everything you need. We suggest layering your clothes for warmth/coolness and changing climate conditions.

What is the weather like in the Ecuadorian highlands and rainforest?

The weather in Ecuador is fairly consistent year-round since it straddles the equator. In the mountains, temperatures can reach the upper 60′s to low 70′s during the day and drop to the low 50′s to 40′s at night. In the rainforest, the daytime temperature is typically in the upper 70′s to low 80′s with humidity and in the evenings it can drop to the low 60′s. Because we are in a primary forest with lots of canopy and rivers, the heat is less intense than most expect. In our experience, rainy seasons are highly unpredictable and don’t necessarily correlate with accuracy to a specific time of year. As we will be entering the rainforest, you can expect some rain and it will not adversely impact activities on the trip.

How many people are in one of your groups?

We generally have from 10-15 participants on our journeys, with a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 18 to maintain intimacy. While some participants have experience with group travel, for many this is their first time. And a consistent highlight for most participants is the connections and experiences they share with their fellow travelers.

Will I need a visa to enter Ecuador?

For North American or European travelers, a visa is not necessary to enter Ecuador, though you will need a passport that is current for six months following your date of entry into Ecuador (VERY IMPORTANT). If it is not, you must renew it before departure or otherwise be denied entry. For travelers from other countries, please check with your embassy.

How do Pachamama Alliance Journeys offset the carbon emissions associated with air travel?

Though air travel is a fairly carbon-intensive mode of transportation, Pachamama Alliance Journeys offer participants the unique opportunity to live in harmony with nature during their trip. A key component of this is Kapawi Ecolodge, where Journeys participants stay during their time in the Amazon. Kapawi Ecolodge, which is owned and operated by the Achuar, was built sustainably using materials from the forest and is powered by solar energy. The food offered at Kapawi is locally sourced, and the many activities offered during the trip, such as guided rainforest hikes, have relatively little to no carbon outputs. Another unique aspect of Pachamama Alliance Journeys is an invitation to support the efforts of our Indigenous partners to preserve the Amazon rainforest. Community-based ecotourism is a key alternative to oil development and mining in this region, and our Indigenous partners invite allies from around the world so that they can share the message and power of the Amazon. Your visit helps forward the important work of preserving 86 million acres of primary rainforest and the many Indigenous groups that live there.

Will I be able to charge batteries?

Yes, there will be electricity in all locations except for the time spent in the Achuar village. There is no need for conversion for the type of electricity or the plugs if you are coming from North America. Ecuador operates on 110v electricity. Check with currentsolutions.com for your specific needs if you are traveling from outside North America.

How do I know if this experience is right for me?

We trust that people are called to this experience and go when the time is right. If you would like support in looking to see if this is the right experience and timing, please contact Pachamama Journeys Director, Steve Torneten, who has been leading groups for over 8 years. He is very familiar with the unique opportunity of the journey and the potential it has to offer. He can also support you as you prepare logistically for this experience and is available to offer any assistance. Most importantly, trust your heart.

What are the altitudes that the group will travel through?

The Ecuadorian capital, Quito, is the highest elevation of the itinerary. For people particularly sensitive to altitude, an altitude sickness remedy may be helpful. Below is a chart indicating the various altitude points on our itinerary:

  • Quito: 9,500 feet, 3,000 meters
  • Banos: 5,905 feet, 1,820 meters
  • Otavalo: 8,641 feet, 2,633 meters
  • Achuar Territory (Rainforest): 900 feet, 295 meters

What happens if I need to cancel?

A deposit is required to hold your reservation. In the event you cancel:

Cancelling your journey

You may cancel your journey 90 days prior to the start of the Journey without charge. Otherwise please refer to the schedule below:

Pachamama Journeys reserves the right to cancel a scheduled journey at any time. In the event that Pachamama Alliance must cancel the Journey you have joined, your full payment will be refunded to you. In the event that your Journey is cancelled due to factors outside of Pachamama Alliance's control such as natural disaster, political unrest, etc., we will issue refunds where possible. We encourage all travelers to obtain travel insurance including trip cancellation or delay, loss of luggage, etc. to protect your purchase.

PACHAMAMA the Mother Earth (andean culture)

Hello bloggers today we are going to talk, write about the Pachamama, Mother Earth, Andean culture in South America. Read in the blog below.

Table of Contents

About the Pachamama:

Diosa Pachamama

Pacha Mama or Pachamama is the goddess worshiped by the indigenous peoples of the Andes, Peru , Bolivia and she is also known as Mother Earth/Time. In Inca mythology, Pachamama is a fertility goddess who presides over planting and harvesting, personifying mountains and causing earthquakes.

She is also an omnipresent and independent deity who has her own self-sufficient creative power to sustain life on Earth. Shrines to her are sacred stones or trunks of legendary trees, and her artistic depiction shows her as an adult woman carrying the potato and coca leaf harvest.

The 4 Quechua cosmological principles: water, earth, sun and moon, affirm that the Pachamama is its origin. The priests sacrifice flames, guinea pigs and elaborate miniature burnt clothes to her. After the Spanish conquest and conversion to Roman Catholicism, the figure of the Virgin Mary was united with that of Pachamama for many indigenous peoples.

In pre-Hispanic culture, Pachamama is often a cruel goddess eager for sacrifices. As Andean cultures shaped modern nations, Pachamama has remained benevolent, generous, and a local name for Mother Nature.

Therefore, many in South America like Peru and Bolivia believe that problems arise when people take too much from nature because they are taking too much from Pachamama. Pachamama is the mother of Inti, the sun god, and Mama Quilla, the moon goddess. It is also said that Pachamama is the wife of Inti, her son.

Pachamama is usually translated as Mother Earth, but a more literal translation would be “Mother World” (in Aymara and Quechua). The Inca goddess can be mentioned in many ways; the main one is Pachamama. Other names are Mama Pacha, Pachamama and Mother Earth. Pachamama differs from Pachamama in that “La” implies the intertwined connection the goddess has with nature, whereas Pachamama – without “La” – refers only to the goddess.

Worship of the goddess Pachamama:

The cult of Pachamama in the Andes predates the Incas, with her being relegated to a subordinate position to the Moon, the divine creator of women who ruled over all goddesses.

The Pachamama cult generally dealt with the daily earthly affairs of the local community. Likewise, the world of Huarochirí and the groups described in the idolatry documents mainly emphasized the deities of nature and the home and the sacred founders of their ancestral groups.

It is suggested that the abstract expressions of the Inca creative deity Viracocha would have mattered little to non-Inca communities far removed from the great calendar rituals in Cusco. The relationship between the Incas and the idols of the provinces is shown in the Huarochirí manuscript.

The presence of the Incas on the central coast contributed to the inclusion of the sun in the myths of Pachacámac and Con. During the colonial period, the cult of the main Inca deities did not continue, preferring Andean ones to meteorological and mountain deities. The cult of Pachamama also continued.

Why is Pachamama was so important to the Incas?

It’s because Pachamama is the one who protects the crops in the fields; the main production of the Incas. Her veneration is so great that in the vicinity of Cusco , in the Republic of Peru , there is an imposing Inca infrastructure called Moray, the main function was to carry out agricultural tests at different heights, currently the rites are performed in honour of Pacha Mama invoking her help in the plantations.

Celebrations for the goddess Pachamama in Peru:

As she is the goddess of nature, every August 1 her veneration of Pachamama in Peru is carried out in a very special way. Depending on the regions, for example, in Peru, Bolivia or Argentina, the rites may present some variations.

Traditionally the Incas feed and drink the mother earth, this rite is performed through a hole in the ground, once they place their offering and cover it, the community begins to dance around them, usually this rite is guided by the elders and in this way thank the goddess Pacha Mama.

Pachamama Raymi in Peru:

Pachamama Raymi in Peru, which means “Mother Earth Day” in Spanish, is celebrated every first week of August.

The people of Cusco pay homage to Mother Earth in gratitude for the blessings bestowed on their crops, which serve to sustain their families throughout the year. The tradition of worshiping the Pachamama in Peru dates back to pre-Hispanic times.

The Inca people considered her the protective deity of the Inca Empire, dedicated to nurturing and preserving the well-being of man. This celebration is an act of reciprocity and praise to nature, according to Andean cultures, to continue maintaining alliances with man.

The Incas had a lot of respect for the Apus (mountains) and Pachamama (Goddess of fertility), as well as the Sun God (Inti), being their main deities. Therefore, they performed ceremonies of worship to Mother Earth as a thank you for the harvests. The central date is August 1st, the day on which peasants do not work the land to let it rest, initiating the payment ritual.

German tour operator FTI is filing for insolvency and canceling future trips

  • Copy Link copied

BERLIN (AP) — German tour operator FTI said Monday that it is filing for insolvency protection from creditors, and trips that haven’t yet started will be canceled or scaled back.

FTI Group, which describes itself as Europe’s third-biggest tour operator, said parent company FTI Touristik GmbH, was filing an application for the opening of insolvency proceedings at a Munich court.

Since an announcement in April that a consortium of investors would come on board, “booking figures have fallen well short of expectations despite the positive news,” the company said in a statement.

“In addition, numerous suppliers have insisted on advance payment,” it added. “As a result, there was an increased need for liquidity, which could no longer be bridged until the closing of the investor process,” making the insolvency filing a legal necessity.

The operator said it is working to ensure that trips that have already started can be completed as planned, but “trips that have not yet begun will probably no longer be possible or only partially possible from Tuesday.”

A support website and hotline were set up for customers affected.

The Munich-based FTI Group has over 11,000 employees.

CBP Reminds Summer Travelers to Stay ‘Travel Ready'

WASHINGTON — As summer approaches and families prepare for their international trips, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reminds the traveling public to use the agency’s official mobile applications to secure and streamline their travel and expedite their reentry into the United States.

Throughout 2023, CBP expanded use of its technology, processing over 394 million travelers at ports of entry in fiscal year 2023, a 24-percent increase over last year, and has already reached almost 100 million travelers in the first quarter of FY2024, totaling more than 527 million travelers to date using biometric facial comparison technology at entry, exit and Preclearance locations, with a match rate of more than 98 percent.

Additionally, memberships in CBP’s Trusted Traveler Programs in FY2024 has reached 14 million. For those looking to complete an interview before their summer travel, CBP currently has more than 158,000 interview appointments available within the next 90 days. Enrollment on Arrival (EoA) remains the best option to complete a GE interview. Applicants can complete their interview without an appointment and with just the entry documents they would normally carry when arriving from international locations.

CBP has also introduced a complement of mobile applications with technological enhancements to help speed up the travel process when entering the U.S. via air, land, or sea. Global Entry, for example, launched a new mobile app in September 2023 that allows members to complete their entry processing on their phones before even leaving the plane. The app can be downloaded from the Apple App store and Google Play, and is currently available for use at 47 airports, with more locations coming soon.  To date around 348,000 Global Entry users have processed their arrival using the app.

International travelers who are not Global Entry members can take advantage of the Mobile Passport Control app, which allows travelers to submit their passport and travel information in advance with a mobile device, resulting in less congestion and more efficient processing. MPC is available at 51 ports of entry, including 14 Preclearance locations and four seaports. It can be used by all U.S. citizens, U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents, B1/B2 Canadian Citizens, and returning Visa Waiver Program travelers. The app was used by 4.1 million travelers in FY2023, and has already had over 4.2 million uses in FY2024.

Non-U.S. citizens planning travel into the U.S. also have the option of using the Electronic System for Travel Authorization mobile app or the CBP One mobile app. The ESTA Mobile app was implemented June 1, 2023, and has been used almost 422,000 times to submit an ESTA application for authorization to travel to the U.S. In the first quarter of FY2024, the app has been used almost 338,000 times to apply. The CBP One™ app may also be used by visitors to the U.S. to apply and pay for the I-94 online. In FY2023, visitors used the CBP One app more than 458,000 times to complete a provisional I-94 application and almost 195,000 times in the first quarter of FY2024.

Additionally, U.S. citizens who are required to declare agriculture and biological products upon arrival into the United States may also use CBP One to provide advanced notification that they will need an agriculture inspection. Categories for declaration include:

  • Biological materials that may require permits issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
  • Pets, specifically birds and dogs, accompanying travelers in various capacities that carry the potential of introducing foreign animal diseases to the U.S. or other public health concerns
  • Cleaning and disinfection of shoes
  • Hunting trophies

All CBP applications can be downloaded free from the  Google Play Store  or  Apple App Store . For more information about CBP’s suite of mobile apps, visit Mobile Apps Directory | U.S. Customs and Border Protection (cbp.gov)

For more information on preparing to travel abroad, visit the Know Before You Go page on the CBP website .

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is America's frontline: the nation's largest law enforcement organization and the world's first unified border management agency. The 65,000+ men and women of CBP protect America on the ground, in the air, and on the seas. We facilitate safe, lawful travel and trade and ensure our country's economic prosperity. Jennifer Lopez cancels summer 2024 tour, two South Florida concerts

E ntertainer Jennifer Lopez’s decision to cancel her 2024 summer tour is vexing to fans in South Florida, where she was scheduled for concerts at Miami’s Kaseya Center on June 28-29.

The announcement on Friday came after weeks of speculation about poor ticket sales around the country.for her tour, originally titled This Is Me … Live, before being rebranded as This Is Me… Live | The Greatest Hits.

The move to pull the plug on the tour came three months after Lopez added a second performance in Miami, citing “fan demand.”

The 34-city tour was scheduled to kick off on June 26 at the Kia Center in Orlando, where ticket sales also were reportedly strong.

Entertainment magazine Variety published pictures of seat maps at Lopez concerts in Denver, Pittsburgh and Tulsa, showing oceans of unsold seats.

At OnTheJLo.com , the singer posted an announcement that said she is “taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends.”

In a separate statement, Lopez said: “I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down. Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you.”

The tour was set to be her first North American concerts in five years. It was pegged to her latest album “This Is Me… Now,” her first studio release in nearly a decade, and two films: the now-streaming Netflix space adventure “Atlas” and “This Is Me… Now,” an autobiographical musical romance featuring husband Ben Affleck.

Social media has buzzed lately with rumors of trouble in the Lopez-Affleck marriage.

A statement from Ticketmaster said South Florida fans who purchased tickets for the two Miami shows will receive a full refund at point of purchase.
