Beautiful river cruise
My friend treated me to a river cruise for my birthday. I'm disabled and the entire crew was very accommodating and helpful. They made our trip extra special. The boat was not huge, but felt very stable and safe on the water. Snacks and drinks were available and reasonably priced. Overall, it was a great little day trip.
We had booked a private party for a group of 45 people and were we ever well taken care of. From boarding when we were greeted by the captain/pilot through a wonderful buffet dinner and a relaxing ride on the Huron River, it was a wonderful evening. The staff which manned the bar always had terrific smiles for every one of us, adding more to our special evening.
Sight seeing from the boat was incredible. I am currently not getting around well and the boat trip showed me around without me having to walk it. The crew was helpful and snacks affordable. We are glad we ignored the negative reviews and took the boat trip.
We went on the annual sturgeon festival cruise, not because we were overly interested in sturgeon, but because that was the only cruise they had that would fit into our schedule on our road trip. I really don't appreciate being being lied to. Their website stated that there would only be 40 tickets sold for each of the sturgeon cruises. I counted at least 60 passengers on the cruise plus several people associated with the sturgeon presentation. So, apparently CDC guidelines and social distancing mean nothing to them. When we returned to the dock there were well over 40 people waiting in line to board the next cruise and they did NOT clean the boat at all before those people boarded. You are told to arrive 15 minutes before the cruise. We were running early so we arrived about 25 minutes before the cruise and it was a good thing. They started boarding a few minutes after we arrived and there was already a good line. We were lucky to get the last seats on the top deck, so I recommend arriving early if you take this cruise. I don't know what the regular route for this cruise is, but we went out onto Lake Huron and met up with a boat of biologists who were catching sturgeon and collecting info about them and tagging them before releasing them back into the water. It was interesting and something different to see. It did seem though that we could have gotten a LOT closer to their boat for better viewing. I know nothing about boating, but another passenger claimed to know a LOT about boating and catching fish and was having a BIG FIT about how he felt the captain was totally incompetent in his job. All I know is that we were very close to the other boat to start but kept getting further and further away making it difficult to see or hear the presentation. The snack bar does not open until after the boat has departed the dock, so be prepared to wait to get a drink. The strangest thing, though, was that when we departed the boat, we were told that we could not take the bottle of water we had purchased with us and had to pour it out. Seriously???????? You can't bring your own water on board, but you also can't take theirs with you!!!!!!! I fully understand not being able to take alcohol off the boat, but water?????????????
The Huron Lady II was great, the staff was nice and the boat practiced safety measures with social distancing on the roof of the boat. A great day on the water, weather was awesome. I’m glad I bought tickets from Groupon to save money too. Highly recommended
The cruise takes 1 1/2 hours and goes down the St Clair River to the south end of Port Huron, back up and into the Sarnia harbor area, then under the Blue Water Bridge and out into Lake Huron as far as Lighthouse Beach on the American side. We thoroughly enjoyed it and the kids liked seeing Port Huron from a different angle. The captain didn't talk much but recorded sections were played for tour highlights. Get there early to be in line, because seating is first come, first served. Photographers sit on the top deck to for clearer shots.

Fantastic ~2 hour cruise along St. Claire river and onto Lake Huron! We experienced a competent crew, interesting information along the way, plenty of sitting space, clean bathrooms, room to walk around for views and photos, and available snacks and drinks. Pictures are taken at the beginning. I was a tad annoyed that they didn't seem to be optional and I wasn't interested. However, after seeing the photos, the reasonable $10 charge wasn't bad.

This was different! A cruise into Port Huron to watch the beginning of the Mackinac race. It was a cloudy day and still exciting to follow the sailboats to the starting point. They played the starts on the radio (at times it was difficult to hear due to poor reception). So fun to watch and at one point we were so close the coast guard came by and told us to "MOVE BACk!" Great time easy to see and still protected from the rain .
Always a great trip! Crew is super friendly and knowledgeable. Well worth the money and is worth repeating every summer! The Sturgeon Festival Cruise is also fabulous!
I go on an annual cruise with a group of friends and I think this has been 6 years in a row for me. It costs each of us $20 for a 2 hour boat cruise so the price is sure reasonable. There are not a lot of bells and whistles. It's a simple boat cruise out of Port Huron and back. We get close to the Canada side during the cruise so the views are great. It's a real treat so close to home and I always feel safe. The captain has been different a couple of years but they all seem to have great skill and great personalities. I look forward to next year.
Very pleasant boat ride at a reasonable price. The prices at the snack bar are very affordable and there is ample room to move around the boat. The weather was perfect and it was a perfect amount of time on the water. There's some narrative as you travel up and down the river, under the bridge and finally out on to the open water of the lake. There are lots of opportunities for photo ops, especially as the boat nears the bridge. Seeing the industry and the freighters was pretty cool as well. All in all a good outing and one I would recommend.
Well worth the $20!!! We did the standard afternoon cruise and we really enjoyed it. Fun for all ages. The Hubs and I had a Monday off and decided to spend the day in Port Huron. We went on the 1pm cruise, since it was a weekday we were able to walk up and buy tickets. I imagine on the weekends, you'd have to plan in advance. They do have online ticket sales! Our cruise was an hour and a half. We saw all sorts of boats, really cool houses along the river, a lighthouse, and of course the blue water bridge. The cruise is narriated, so you get to learn a bit about the area too. One thing we noticed was we found all sorts of cool swimming spots from the boat that are open to the public! :-) I would go on the ride again. I'd like to go on a sunset cruise. They also host dinner cruises!
We took the cruise today and really enjoyed it. Lots of history ; beautiful scenery and nice weather. Would love to do another cruise sometime. Crew was very friendly , Captain was there to greet us in boarding and pictures were taken upon boarding. Was the best picture we've had taken in years. Nice memory. Thank you!
Awesome experience! We went on the 1:00 on the 4th of July. Clean boat and clean staff with a very professional captain. They had concessions on the boat with fair prices. The boat ride was 1.5 hrs and gave us lots to see. Highly recommend!
Had a great time! Staff were very friendly. Had beautiful weather with smooth water. Also learned a lot about the beautiful sites pointed out on the scenic tour. I highly recommend this excursion.
Had a great time. Staff was very friendly. Witnessed them wiping down rails and handles (thank you). I know they said they were running at 60% capacity but I thought it was the perfect amount of passengers. I do wish the scenery was nicer, "chemical valley" doesn't really interest me but my dad would have loved it. Either way, it was a nice day away.

On the blue water’the huron lady ii.
By David Fleet on June 22, 2011 No Comment
For more than a decade Goodrich resident Jenny Olsen has hosted the PBS Michigan Out-of-Doors weekly adventure television show. Now Olsen is exploring a new aspect of the Great Lakes state. Olsen is co-owner of the Huron Lady II, a 73-foot cruise ship docked in Port Huron. The same group of partners also operate cruise businesses in Munising, Frankfort, Alpena, and Bayfield, Wis. Olsen narrates the tour aboard the Huron Lady II which leaves from the docks of Water Street on the Black River in Port Huron. The cruise includes passing under the Blue Water bridges, the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse (Michigan’s oldest) and gets close to plenty of Great Lakes freighters, said Olsen. ‘The history in the Blue Water area is just unreal,? said Olsen, a 1986 Brandon High School graduate. ‘Thomas Edison grew up in this area, there’s shipwrecks to learn about in the St. Clair River and checking out some of the 1,000 foot freighters that pass through the area is a real favorite. The cruises on the Huron Lady II will definitely get people excited about what Michigan has to offer.? Capt. John and Camille Rigney began Huron Lady boat excursions in 1995 with the Huron Lady I. They purchased the Huron Lady II in 1999. They will continue to be involved in the business during the transition season. The Huron Lady II is available for tours or private charters and is designed for families, neighborhood, church, school, civic, senior, or social organizations dinner cruises.
