15 Best Zurich Tours

With more than 400,000 residents residing within city limits, Zurich is Switzerland’s largest city.

It’s located in the north-central portion of the country just south of the border with Germany, on the north end of massive Lake Zurich.

It’s also the capital of the Canton of Zurich and has nearly 1.4 citizens living in the greater metropolitan area.

Zurich is less than two hours from some of Europe’s most popular ski areas and is particularly well-known for its historical and cultural attractions, food and art scenes, and spas and thermal baths.

Below are 15 of the best tours in and around Zurich.

Tours wind their way through a number of neighborhoods like Old Town, which has long been an epicenter of epicurean delights.

Though the city has changed with the ages, it has kept much of its old-world charm and features a pleasant mix of the old and new that most visitors find alluring.

Tours are customizable and include some attractions that are off the well-worn path, which means fewer crowds and a more personalized experience than you’re likely to get on larger tours.

IWF's 'Take Back Title IX' Tour Bus Attacked, Vandalized With Profanity, Graphic Drawings

In yet another sign of the aggression and intolerance of extremist radical gender ideologues, a tour bus for the Independent Women's Forum (IWF) was attacked overnight.

The IWF official account on X posted photos and video of the profanity-laced vandalism, which included several incidences of profanity, vulgar drawings and the usual nonsensical activist slogans. "Trans women are women," was written several times, "B is for bigot," "hategroup" and "f*** transphobes"  were some of the very creative slogans written on the bus.

Fight to protect women's sports and women's spaces from males? These are the attacks you can expect.

OutKick's Riley Gaines , host of the Gaines For Girls show and IWF ambassador, issued a statement on Friday afternoon, decrying the "violence and vandalism" of transgender activists and their exclusionary tactics.

"It's amazing that females wanting female only sports warrants such a reaction," Gaines said. "They’ve resorted to name-calling, defaming, and intentional misrepresentation when they can't dissuade from our position. And now they’ve added violence and vandalism to their tactics. Common sense, logic, reason, lived experience, and science are on our side. Let's be clear. The trans rights activists don't want inclusion; they want the exclusion of women."

Independent Women's Forum Responds To Vandalism

The IWF issued a statement in response, decrying the attack and the Biden administration's efforts to undermine women's sports.

"It’s disgusting but not surprising to see such a blatant anti-woman attack on a tour bus — our home on the road — that represents a national movement fighting to preserve equal opportunity, fairness, and safety for women in athletics. The Title IX rewrite from the Biden administration is in itself just that—an attack on women. We are disheartened but will continue to stand strong and share this important message across the country: women will not be replaced or sidelined. The Our Bodies, Our Sports Coalition has been working to save women’s sports since 2021, and we aren’t slowing down anytime soon. This cowardice attack will only make us stronger and louder as we continue to roll into Washington D.C. to amplify our message to the administration and Congress!" said Brianna Howard, Independent Women’s Forum coalition manager and Our Bodies Our Sports "Take Back Title IX" Bus Tour manager.

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova also spoke out against the attack, saying that those who commit such acts are "cowards" who "don't give a s*** about women."

While a significant majority of the country believes that only women should be allowed to compete in women's sports, extremists and politicians have joined forces to prioritize the wishes of radical gender activists. As Riley Gaines explained, it's an exclusionary ideology, one that removes the opinions and ignores the safety of women looking to compete on a level playing field.

And given the lack of consequences for vandalism and attacks targeted towards groups that disagree with progressive consensus, it's a near certainty that they'll continue, if not escalate.

Riley Gaines: I'm in Nashville to protest Biden's Title IX changes and fight for women's sports

Riley gaines: "i won’t stand by and watch as female athletes are pushed aside. and if you care about women and fairness, neither should you.".

Editor's note: The Tennessean has been covering the issues surrounding gender-affirming health care and the intersection of gender identity and sports. Two pillars of The Tennessean’s  opinion and engagement mission  are to welcome diverse perspectives and amplify underrepresented views. Find supporting or opposing views throughout the column. Send responses to [email protected] .

Two years ago, when I swam for the University of Kentucky, I raced and tied with Lia Thomas , a transgender athlete.

The NCAA not only didn’t stand up for me, but they claimed that Lia needed to hold the trophy for photo purposes.

I refused to stay silent after that, and my story has been told time and time again . I have since gotten to travel the nation, sharing my experience and speaking about the importance of preserving women’s sports and spaces.

I wish I could say that my experience was an isolated incident.

Supreme Court should rule bans on gender-affirming care for trans people unconstitutional

Biden administration rewrote Title IX rules to protect gender identity

According to SheWon.org , there have been hundreds of competitions across the country where a transgender athlete has entered a women’s sports competition meant for women and taken spots on teams, medals and honors on award podiums, and even scholarships meant for women athletes.

This already bad situation is about to get worse. Much worse. The Biden administration has just rewritten Title IX — a law that was supposed to ensure that women have equal opportunity in education, including athletics — to equate sex with gender identity. Basically, the new Title IX will require schools and athletic competitions to allow any athlete to opt into a competition that matches their self-proclaimed gender identity.

A judge recently blocked the Biden administration from enforcing the rule in four states.

Tennessee Senate and House leaders: Why we defend gender-affirming care ban

Why continued competitiveness in women's sports is a concern

Claiming that this inclusion of transgender athletes doesn’t threaten female athletes is ridiculous.

Just take a look at the world’s records for women’s and men’s competitions .

You’ll see that men are consistently faster and stronger than women, which gives men the edge in just about every sport.

That’s why we have women’s teams and men’s teams in the first place: Because if we didn’t, women simply wouldn’t win and often wouldn’t even make the team.

Take Back Title IX Summer tour ends at Redneck Riviera

This is precisely why I’m joining female athletes and coaches on a bus right now, winding our way around the country, to be a part of the Our Bodies, Our Sports Coalition . And why I’m asking you join us in Nashville on June 28 for a rally to Take Back Title IX.

We are doing this because we know that, right now, what we are fighting for is bigger than any single competition. We are fighting for the future of women’s sports itself. We need every athlete, coach, parent, and women’s advocate to join us for the Our Bodies, Our Sports Take Back Title IX Summer 2024 Bus Tour .

I won’t stand by and watch as female athletes are pushed aside. And if you care about women and fairness, neither should you. Join us at 2 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Redneck Riviera (208 Broadway) in Nashville, Tennessee, for our final stop on the bus tour. Take a stand to defend women and to take back Title IX.

Riley Gaines is an ambassador with Independent Women’s Forum (iwf.org) and a former 12x All-American swimmer at the University of Kentucky.

Marliyn Monroe's Former L.A. Home Gets Landmark Status

UPDATED with statement from property owners: Some like it not … torn down.

The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to designate Marilyn Monroe ‘s former Westside home as a historic cultural monument, thwarting the current owners’ attempt to demolish it. The move comes five months after L.A.’s Cultural Heritage Commission blocked the demolition efforts over the house’s cultural significance.

The home at 12305 West Fifth Helena Drive is where the revered actress was found dead at 36 in August 1962.

Back in September, Park moved to save the house by designating it as a historic cultural monument . She said it would be a “devastating blow” for historic preservation and for a city where less than 3% of historic designations are associated with women’s heritage.”

Two weeks ago, the council had put off its vote after Park requested an extension to address concerns from the home’s owners and from area residents, who have expressed concerns about privacy and safety with the designation.

Park noted that she has balanced those concerns as the designation moved through the Historic Cultural Commission and the council’s Planning and Land Use Management Committee. She introduced a motion during Wednesday’s meeting to evaluate tour bus restrictions on West Fifth Helena Drive and surrounding streets.

On May 6, attorneys for real estate heiress Brinah Milstein and her husband, former Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? exec producer Roy Bank, filed court papers with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James Chalfant in which they said the city was violating the law by trying to give the home historical recognition. The pair bought the residence in July 2023 for $8.35 million and had obtained a demolition permit from the city — which later was revoked.

An attorney for property owners said in a statement to Deadline. “Council Member Traci Park, in bringing a motion to designate the former home of Marilyn Monroe as a Historic Cultural Monument, said she has ‘worked closely’ with the owners ‘throughout this process’ to relocate this house to allow for public access. … In fact, the opposite is true,” Peter C. Sheridan said. “The owners have made countless attempts to work with Ms. Park and her staff to find a solution that would work for everyone, only to be met with non-responsiveness by Ms. Park and her staff. … The designation today was yet another step in an admittedly biased, unconstitutional and rigged process, as set forth in the owners’ lawsuit.
