Positive impact and giving back
We’re acutely aware that the places that Expert Africa features are some of the most pristine and delicate wilderness areas in the world. They are also home to some of the world’s most iconic species. We’re conscious, too, that we have a responsibility not only to help protect these places but also to promote the benefits they provide to the people who live in them, and who dedicate themselves to protecting them. This is a shared responsibility involving our travellers, the camps and lodges on the ground and ourselves at Expert Africa. We don't simply pay lip service to this responsibility; we actively take the lead on it. This is a genuine commitment and not the often-observed tokenism prevalent in much of our industry. Promoting actions that look good but usually have little meaningful impact is not what we are about. Expert Africa is different.

About Tanzania
In total, more than 25% of Tanzania has been set aside for wildlife conservation. The country is spectacularly diverse and beautiful with exceptional wildlife and iconic landmarks such as the Ngorongoro Crater (the world’s largest unflooded intact volcanic caldera), Kilimanjaro (Africa’s tallest mountain), Great Rift Valley, and the Serengeti. The country supports very high predator densities, especially lion. In addition, it has no less than 35 species of antelope and a staggering number of wildebeest.
The traditional “Northern Circuit” boasts Tanzania’s most famous parks, including Tarangire National Park , Lake Manyara National Park , Ngorongoro Conservation Area , and Serengeti National Park . Other areas of interest include Lake Eyasi and Kilimanjaro . Weather wise, the best time for viewing game in northern Tanzania is June through March. Late December through February and July and August are the busiest periods. April, May November is traditionally the rainy season. In addition, light rains usually fall between late October and early December. Flying directly into Kilimanjaro International Airport near the safari gateway of Arusha is the best starting point.
The landscape of Tarangire is characterized by large numbers of baobab trees, granite ridges, mixed acacia woodland, and grassland. It is the best area on the Northern Circuit to see lions in trees and large numbers of elephant. Lake Manyara is the seasonal home of tens of thousands of flamingos, providing a pink blanket over the water. This 125-square-mile park has the Great Rift Valley Escarpment for a dramatic backdrop. Lake Eyasi is Tanzania’s largest soda lake. Seldom visited by travelers, this remote area is home to the Hadzabe Bushmen and the Datoga tribe.
Ngorongoro Crater, the largest unflooded, intact caldera (collapsed cone of a volcano) in the world, contains possibly the largest permanent concentration of wildlife in Africa. Wildlife, humans and livestock inhabit the conservation area together. The word Serengeti means “endless plain” in the Maasai language. This vast national park is one of the best to see lion and cheetah. And then, of course, there is the Great Migration of more than 1.3 million wildebeest and 400,000 zebra moving across the majestic plains.
At 19,340 feet above sea level, Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and one of the “Seven Summits.” The summit is more than 16,000 feet above the surrounding plains – you truly feel that you’re on top of Africa! No mountaineering skills are required to ascend; it is purely a (rather strenuous) walk to the summit! It is definitely best to avoid the rainy season.
Two of the world’s largest and least visited national parks, Nyerere and Ruaha , lie lazily stretched in the country’s south. Scenically spectacular Ruaha triumphantly boasts the largest number of lion of any reserve in Africa, along with large numbers of elephant, buffalo, kudu, and wild dog. A big attraction of Nyerere (formerly Selous Game Reserve) is game viewing by boat as well as in open vehicles and on foot. By and large, the best months for game viewing are July to October.
The narrow streets and Arabic architecture of historical Zanzibar are exceptionally mystical and beautiful on a moonlit night. It is approximately a 1 to 1.5 hour drive to reach most of the island’s beach resorts from the Zanzibar Airport.

AARD WOLF AFRICA ADVENTURE PROMOTES
Responsible tourism.
Tourism has been an important part of Kenya’s recent history, resulting in the creation of vast national parks and game reserves, the outlawing of hunting, and generating a high percentage of GDP. But Kenya’s ability to adapt to this shift – moving the emphasis from wildlife to people – will determine the impact that tourism has on its future.

Pioneering World Firsts
We proudly pioneered the first commercial treks of Mount Kilimanjaro‘s Remote Northern Circuit and Shira Routes and have developed new trekking routes in the Ruwenzori, High Atlas and Simien Mountains. Our Madagascar Adventure also gets plenty of attention for its unique itinerary.
Quality equipment
Adventure travel by its very nature will put you amongst the elements. You’ll be comforted to know that our camping based treks are supported by quality equipment, starting with tents, sleeping mats, kitchen services, dining tent with chairs and tables and safety equipment.
Choose from a range of quality accommodations
Whether you plan to camp, prefer a lodge based trip, or are looking for luxury, we offer a wide range of African adventures to suit various budgets and interests. We can also tailor a trip to suit your needs.
Innovative itineraries
Africa is a diverse and contrasting continent, encompassed by our broad and exciting program of active, touring and safari itineraries. We constantly strive to highlight the unique—touring Madagascar’s iconic sights but also exploring its lesser know national parks, spotting wildlife from dugout canoes in the Okavango Delta, or traversing the little-used mountain trails of Mount Kenya.
Custom built, reliable transport
Trained drivers and well maintained vehicles, which are purpose built for our safaris, are what you can expect when on the lookout for Africa’s Big 5 game animals. Safari transport is designed with wildlife viewing in mind, providing unobstructed views and in most cases forward facing seats and air-conditioning.
Our all inclusive approach
Including as many quality services at the best prices make our adventures great value for money. Having essential items like meals, sightseeing and national park fees or camping equipment included in the trip cost allows you to better budget for your big adventure and eliminates the risk of having to carry large sums of money around with you on your journey.
Thoughtful Travel
Responsible Travel practices are at the heart of every program we offer in Africa. When you book one of our adventures you’re supporting true sustainability in the protection of local communities, natural environments and wildlife.
Expert Guides
Africa is a complex continent that requires guides with vast knowledge of local landscapes, flora and fauna, as well as rich local cultures. Our line up of guides is second-to-none; passionate individuals who will truly enhance your African experience.
No Single Supplements on treks
Travelling solo? On our treks we’ll match you with another traveller of the same gender so that you won’t be charged anything extra for the vast majority of our treks. If you prefer a guaranteed single room on tour we can also arrange that for a small additional charge.
On a continent rich in wildlife and cultural diversity that is famed for its spectacular landscapes, the importance of sustainable travel is high. While we aim to minimise our impact on the natural environment by practicing the '7 Principals of Leave No Trace', our adventures support local economies by employing guides and staff from local communities. Our Animal Welfare Code of Conduct, Child Welfare Code of Conduct and Porter Welfare Policy ensure the well-being of animals and children we encounter, as well as the porters we employ on Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, Mount Kenya and in the Ruwenzori Mountains.
In cities and large towns you will be accommodated in 3-4 star properties that are generally centrally located, atmospheric and reliable and where we have seen a good track record with traveller satisfaction over many years. At times, accommodation will be chalet style with a bedroom and bathroom attached to a lounge area. Very occasionally, hotels may have shared bathroom facilities.
Safari lodges
In game parks, national parks and rural locations we use properties that reflect the character of the area. They are generally one storey high and will be a collection of individual bungalows or a series of adjoining rooms, based around a central main dining/lounge area.
Luxury safari lodges
Luxury lodges differ to standard safari lodges in that they feature extra facilities such as swimming pools, satellite TVs or rooms with private balconies. You will find this type of accommodation in East Africa at Serene Lodges and at boutique, 4-5 star lodges in Southern Africa.
Found in Morocco, a riad is a traditional house often located in the ancient medina (walled city) and usually includes an internal courtyard with a garden or water feature. Generally all rooms are a different shape and size, adding to the character. Riads range from elaborate traditional tiled decor to ultra modern furnishings.
A homestay describes any stay with a local family where we share their current home. Sleeping arrangements may be dormitory style and bathroom facilities will generally be shared. The standard is often basic but the experience is unbeatable.
Permanent safari camps
The perfect way to experience Africa wilderness; think of this as a tented hotel. Rooms are individual tents with built-in floors, doors and windows and include an en suite bathroom. Tents are usually placed on a solid structure and may also be sheltered under a solid roof. Guest tents are generally clustered around a main central dining/lounge area and power is either solar or by generator.
Luxury permanent safari camps
A luxury permanent safari camp differs to a standard permanent safari camp in that they feature extra facilities such as swimming pools, satellite TVs or rooms with private balconies; all with premium views.
Bedouin camps
Found in desert regions in North Africa and the Middle East, these are permanent safari camps using traditional Bedouin tents and decor. Bathroom facilities may be basic as water is scarce in the desert. Power is limited to specific hours of the day and is usually by generator when available. Kerosene lanterns or candles provide night time lighting, adding to the ambience.
Camping refers to any accommodation using mobile tents, ranging from large dome tents to small trekking tents. The local camp crew erects the tents or, on a limited participation safari, guests are expected to assist with this process. Group camping equipment (dining tent, kitchen tent, toilet tent) is supplied. Bathroom facilities are shared, and on rare occasions, bush toileting may be required.
Mountain huts
Mountain huts can be considered camping in a basic shelter. These generally consist of dormitory rooms with shared bathroom facilities and in the majority of cases are not exclusive to World Expeditions guests. Some mountain huts have cooking facilities that will be used by your crew; others have separate shelters for this.

This implies you have many days at your exposure for your holiday and you want to see a variety of attractions while on your holiday. One of the most popular attractions on your African holiday are the mountain gorillas, which can only be found in the three East African countries; Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo. There are obviously other factors to look out for while deciding ion which country to visit for seeing the mountain gorillas. These are the factors Africa Tours Adventure will help you address as you plan your gorilla tour holiday. If you are looking for a gorilla safari holiday, Rwanda and Uganda offer the best opportunity to enjoy your destination because these two countries are very secure. Uganda has the most number of gorillas in the whole world with half of the remaining mountain gorillas living in Bwindi impenetrable national park and another family of mountain gorillas living in Mgahinga national park, which shares boundary Volcanoes national park.
Rwanda has the easiest access to the mountain gorilla park from the international airport, which makes it the most convenient destination from where to see the gorillas from for someone on a very short holiday of less than 3 days. While you plan your gorilla safari holiday, we combine it with other tourist attractions in the country or the region and come up with different packages ranging from 2 days to more than 30 days.

Entice Africa was absolutely amazing! From start to finish this outfit was top notch, they were waiting for us at every airport on time the bookings they chose were spectacular. Chiba our guide was just incredible so kind and man his eyesight was insane I mean absolutely insane.
This is our second trip with Entice, and I would highly recommend them for Kenya and Tanzania. What makes them different from all the well known western companies is that you call the shots. Tell Anthony how long you want to go, when do you want to go, and how much you want to do spend. He’ll do the rest.
Entice showed my son, his wife-to-be and me the sights near Nairobi, Mount Longonot, Lake Naivasha, Hell's Gate National Park, the Maasai Mara and Diani Beach over about 10 days. The accommodations and food were a tremendous value.

Peter Allison unveils the beauty of the African safari with A2A Safaris
At just 19 years old, Peter set out on an adventure to Africa, where he unexpectedly stumbled upon his calling as a safari guide. Entranced by the continent’s diverse landscapes and captivating wildlife, he became deeply immersed in its wonders. Despite being in this industry for three decades, Peter’s passion for exploring Africa continues to burn brightly, driving his ongoing enthusiasm and commitment to sharing its extraordinary beauty with others.
Namibia and Botswana
During the event in Bangkok, Peter unveiled the beauty of Africa’s two most iconic destinations, Namibia and Botswana. As Namibia is becoming a sought-after safari destination, this country offers a diverse range of attractions. Whether it’s the breathtaking salt and clay pans of Sossusvlei to the rugged charm of the Skeleton Coast, Namibia’s landscape is a true unparalleled beauty.
For those interested in exploring the wilderness, Peter says that up North is the place to go. For instance, Damaraland has an abundance of wildlife, whether it’s the kudu, giraffe, or oryx. However, what this area is truly known for is its desert-dwelling elephants and free-roaming black rhinos.
As for Botswana , the country also offers a rich variety of attractions. One of these is the Okavango Delta, known for its breathtaking scenery and diverse wildlife. However, for those who want to observe animals like elephants, lions, cheetahs, and leopards, The Linyanti, Kwando & Selinda Reserves are highly recommended. Not to mention, this country is the
“Rolls Royce” of African safaris since their safari camps and lodges are known for their exclusivity.

This Norwegian Cruise sailing takes you on a bucket list adventure: What it's like aboard
For Kylie Herd, an Australian passenger on Norwegian Dawn’s Feb. 25 southern Africa itinerary, cruising has been the best way to check places off her bucket list.
“I just go with whatever cruise line has the itinerary that I want to do at the time that I’m available. It tends to be Norwegian, and when I saw that Norwegian had all these African cruises, I just thought, ‘I’m going to spend summer in Africa,’ because it’s an amazing itinerary,” she told USA TODAY.
When it comes to cruising, most Americans probably think of bopping around the Caribbean or checking out the wilds of Alaska if they’re feeling especially adventurous, but that’s really just scratching the surface. Cruise lines are increasingly offering diverse itineraries including expedition cruises to remote parts of the globe and introductory sailings to help travelers explore countries and regions they might never visit otherwise.
Madagascar was the real draw for months of consecutive cruises on the Dawn for Herd.
“I’ve been trying to go to Madagascar for years. I always wanted to go there way before the movies ever came out. It’s one of those places that’s really difficult to get to,” she said. “When I saw Madagascar on a cruise itinerary I was like, ‘I have to do it.’ ”
Although the Feb. 25 sailing had to skip Madagascar for logistical reasons after a delay departing Mauritius, Herd said that she was able to visit the country earlier on her trip and that it was a real highlight.
Norwegian’s Africa itineraries had various changes and missed ports throughout the season. Passenger contracts give cruise lines some leeway to alter itineraries on short notice for reasons including weather or conditions on the ground that prevent ships from reaching or being accommodated safely in a scheduled port. Such changes can be especially common in regions prone to political unrest or that lack sophisticated port facilities.
Even so, Herd said she understood why passengers who missed out would be frustrated, but she encouraged her fellow travelers to keep an eye on the positive. “I understand the disappointment. I was disappointed, too, but we’re still having a great time.”
The Feb. 25 cruise still stopped at Reunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean, which has an active volcano, as well as ports in South Africa where travelers could spot local wildlife.
Safari from a cruise
Norwegian Dawn stopped at four ports in South Africa, three of which offered safari experiences as shore excursions.
▶ From Richard’s Bay, passengers could visit the iSimangasilo Wetland Park , home to elephants, rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses, zebras and other classic African big game. The park is about an hour and a half drive from the port, and Norwegian’s shore excursion included two game drives, snorkeling and a traditional South African braai, or barbecue.
Just as cruise itineraries can sometimes be subject to last-minute changes, safaris are at the whim of wild animals. Sightings are not guaranteed, but patience and vigilance are often rewarded.
▶ In Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Norwegian Dawn’s passengers could visit Addo Elephant National Park, also about an hour and a half drive from the port.
As the name suggests, Addo is home to a huge and docile population of more than 600 elephants. These animals often congregate around watering holes accessible from well-worn safari tracks.
Even after a strong rainfall the night before the excursion, which allowed elephants to retreat into the bush and temporarily lessen their reliance on overtaxed wells, dozens of the creatures greeted visitors coming from the ship for two-hour game drives.
▶ In Mossel Bay, passengers could also access private game reserves, which often have a higher concentration of wildlife roaming free but can include animals that are not directly indigenous to the area.
Cape Town and the winelands
There’s more to Africa than safaris, and Cape Town is an especially good place to experience metropolitan life and other kinds of outdoor activities on the continent.
South Africa’s legislative capital offers excellent hiking, a great foodie culture, beautiful (if slightly chilly) Atlantic beaches, penguins and more.
For travelers willing to explore beyond the city, South Africa’s wine country is close at hand in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, and many vineyards offer tastings and meal experiences. One Norwegian excursion took passengers to the Blaauwklippen wine estate in Stellenbosch, which is best known for its Zinfandel.
Is an Africa cruise worth it?
From a financial standpoint, a cruise around Africa can be an excellent way to explore. For American travelers, however, flights to and from the ship are often more expensive than the cruise itself.
For example, a 13-day Norwegian itinerary that begins in Cape Town on Dec. 7 and ends in Mauritius on Dec. 20 has prices that start at $899 per person for an inside stateroom, but flights can be well over $1,000 round trip. The current cheapest itinerary from Detroit, for example, is a 42-hour slog on multiple airlines via Montreal and Dubai to Cape Town. The return trip is a bit shorter, at 31 hours, also via Dubai and Montreal. That routing would cost $1,694 per person in economy as of March 18, according to Google Flights.
Logistically speaking, though, it can be much easier to book a cruise and rely on the line’s shore excursions to expand one's horizons than to coordinate one's own safari.
“With multiple diverse ports of call within one coastal continental area, our Africa voyages provide our guests the opportunity to explore lush rainforests or volcanoes, experience captivating wildlife tours, learn about the rich culture on the South African coastline, indulge in Cape Town’s incredible wine regions, and so much more,” Brian Gilroy, vice president of revenue management and itinerary planning for Norwegian Cruise Line, said in a statement to USA TODAY.
The one thing to keep in mind is that the African cruise market is less mature than the Caribbean – at many ports, there just aren’t comparable facilities to handle big ships. That doesn’t mean the cruises can’t or don’t happen, just that sometimes the operation is a little less fluid than the well-oiled Miami machine.
“Our 11- and 12-day cruises start and end in either Cape Town, South Africa, or Port Louis, Mauritius, and include an overnight stay in one of those magnificent cities, giving our guests the chance to fully explore what these regions offer. The variety of adventures our guests can experience in these destinations are endless, which makes for a truly unforgettable cruise experience," Gilroy said.
Travelers may be more likely to encounter a hiccup on their Africa cruise, but that’s all part of traveling to a new and exciting place. A missed port or an extra sea day can be a great time time to take stock, focus on the highlights, enjoy the experience of unlocking a new destination, and maybe take another sip of the wine your onboard sommelier recommended.
Just take a page out of Herd the Australian’s book. Despite some schedule changes, she said, “I’ve loved every single thing.”
