Indiana Jones is likely the first character that comes to mind when thinking of the best archaeologist in movies, but there are plenty of others.

With an equivalent 7.2/10 IMDb rating and 73/100 Metascore, Simon Stone's star-studded period film,  The Dig , is one of the better-reviewed Netflix originals released in 2021. Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan star as English archaeologists on a mission in 1939 to excavate the gravesite of Sutton Hoo, ancient grounds dating back to the 6th and 7th century.

Watching movies about ancient times can be fun, but they are often misleading. Sometimes the style and history are completely off in terms of what researchers actually say it was like, or just entirely made up.

We see that a lot with older history, like Ancient Egypt. But that doesn't mean that it is all completely inaccurate. Some movies put in a lot of detail to make sure the movie is as accurate as possible.

Let's take a look at some of them below.

10 Gods of Egypt (2016)

Gods of Egypt is a fairly recent movie that has a pretty big cast, including Gerard Butler and Chadwick Boseman. But you may be wondering how theatrical the movie was and how much of the information is accurate.

While this movie throws in some accuracy, there is just as much inaccuracy, which can make it confusing. The movie focuses mostly on the mythology of Egypt at the time, so there isn't much about Egypt itself.

Interestingly, the small details were fairly accurate, such as how the path to a happy afterlife changed based on the ruler. But overall, the movie seems to poke fun at mythology more than actually following it.

9 Stargate (1994)

The first part of the Stargate franchise is a 1994 movie that focuses on a wormhole device. It is set in 1928 in Giza, Egypt, and they use the Stargate to teleport back in time to Ancient Egypt.

The coolest thing about this movie is that many of the actors have to speak similarly to how Ancient Egyptians would have. To do this, the filmmakers hired a man known as Stuart Tyson Smith, who was an Egyptologist in Los Angeles.

Even then he was guessing, as no one knew how the Ancient Egyptians spoke, but he managed to make educated guesses based on his work and study. This made the movie seem much more accurate and the translations much more realistic, though some had to be changed a little.

8 The Ten Commandments (1956)

The Ten Commandments is a 1956 epic that is based on the story of Moses from the Bible, which is in the Book of Exodus. It was also loosely based on a few other books like Pillar of Fire, Prince of Egypt, and On Eagle's Wings.

One of the biggest historical accuracies is that the movie was actually filmed in Egypt, specifically Mount Sinai and the Sinai Peninsula. It is considered to be culturally, aesthetically, and historically significant. Not only was it well-loved upon release, but the filmmakers did a lot of studying to make the movie accurate by consulting historical texts from the time as well as many other books, and the Bible.

7 The Prince of Egypt (1998)

Though animated, The Prince of Egypt can be considered a pretty historically accurate movie.

It is historically accurate in two ways. The first is its depiction of the stories from the Bible and Exodus. It closely follows the story of Moses.

It is also highly accurate in its representation of Ancient Egypt. One of the few ways it isn't super accurate is that it doesn't talk about the wars and violence that were occurring at the time as much, but that is likely due to it being made to be mostly family-friendly.

The weapons you do see were very common in the Late Bronze Age at the time, as are the articles of clothing portrayed, even down to the ceremonial crown worn by Ramesses.

Even the details on how monuments were built. For a long time, there was a lot of mystery behind how Egyptians managed to build pyramids. Despite a thrilling horse and chariot race near the beginning, the wheel wasn't invented at the time, so sand ramps were the common way to move around heavy materials because the sand could be easily removed or blown away over time. The movie manages to catch these details as accurately as possible.

6 Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

The Raiders of the Lost Ark has a lot of problems with in terms of accuracy, but it does have some historical facts buried underneath the rest of the movie.

One of the most notable is the Ancient Egyptian city where the Ark is found. While the city never contained the Ark, it was a major city in ancient times. It was the capital of the 21st and 22nd Egyptian dynasties due to its advantageous location for a long time before Alexandria took over.

However, there are other historical accuracies as well, such as the behaviors of people. Grave robbers and locals will often cause damage to important historical sites in the faint hope of finding treasure. Additionally, the Nazis were originally an occultist group that grew to be something much darker.

The booby traps are also pretty fake, but seeing warnings about ancient curses that will attach to whoever opens the tomb is pretty common.

5 Faraon (1966)

Originally known as Faraon , the movie is more widely known as Pharaoh . Despite its old age, this movie manages to be a pretty accurate story.

The Pharaoh portrayed in the movie, Ramses XIII, is fake, but the world, life, and clothing are all pretty accurate to what we currently imagine Ancient Egypt looked like.

This is largely in part because the director brought on an Egyptologist by the name of Kazimierz Michalowski who is one of the most renowned Egyptologists out there. He was a technical advisor for the movie and made sure that the details were accurate. Additionally, the costume designer, Shadi Abdel Salam was a costume designer and film director that focused on Ancient Egypt.

The movie is Polish, and is based on a novel by a Polish writer known as Boleslaw Prus .

4 The Mummy

Much like other movies on this list, The Mummy did some things horribly wrong, but others it nailed right on the head. Strangely, it was the smallest of details that the crew decided to focus on when it came to accuracy.

Some examples are how characters were mummified, and what they might also have in their tomb with them. The masks worn for that are doing the mummification process are also accurate based on the knowledge we currently have. Additionally, the logos and names of the team that studies Ancient Egypt are also accurate, though almost impossible to see on a normal screen.

So while most of the main plot of the movie may be untrustworthy, it is interesting to see that some of the small details were heavily researched.

3 The Loves of Pharaoh (1922)

The Loves of Pharaoh also known as The Wife of the Pharaoh or Das Weib des Pharao is an old movie directed in Germany . It is considered a historic epic film.

The movie was made by Ernst Lubitsch with music composed by Eduard Kunneke. It was said that this movie was created by Lubitsch to prove to Hollywood that he was able to make epics, and it was his last movie in Germany before he moved to Hollywood.

While the movie was based loosely on a true story, and the movie is ultimately a comedy, Lubitsch added detailed costumes and a plot to the story that was highly accurate to what was known about Egypt at the time.

Unfortunately, the complete version of the film is considered lost, but in 2011, a digitally redone version was released.

2 Cleopatra (1963)

Originally, Cleopatra was meant to be broken into two films. The first was to be the love between her and Caesar, and then the second would be the love between her and Antony, but it was eventually combined to make a movie longer than four hours about the Egyptian queen Cleopatra.

A lot of time and thought went into the movie, and it came to be one of the most expensive movies ever made at the time it was finished.

While the clothes themselves are pretty different from what Egyptians would actually have worn at the time, the makeup and the wigs were more accurate, but they were still heavily influenced by styles in the 1960s when the movie came out.

Agora is a movie that pays a lot of attention to the details of Ancient Egypt. It gets most of its information from the Book of Exodus, where a lot of myths and history from the time can be found. The movie focuses on one woman in history, but you see a lot of information about Ancient Egypt and how it stayed as powerful as it did for so long.

The movie itself focuses on Hypatia of Alexandria, who was a genius in a variety of STEM subjects, including math, astronomy, and philosophy. She not only learned about the subjects but was a teacher as well.

Hands-Down The Best Movies Set In Ancient Egypt

Ancient Egypt continues to linger in the modern mind for a bunch of reasons. According to World History Encyclopedia , it's because of the grandeur and the nod to what humans can achieve, and the attention Egypt paid to it — monuments, mythology, tombs, and artwork that dates back to the pharaohs are nothing if not unique and awe-inspiring.

Still, there seems to be a pretty hefty lack of good movies set in Ancient Egypt. Vox  thinks that's partially because Hollywood continues to cast white people as Egyptians, and that's certainly a contributing factor in the authenticity department. The other difficulty is that calling a movie empirically good or bad is pretty much impossible. You can just as much enjoy a really awful movie as you can a movie that sweeps every award and is heralded for its emotional core. There are countless parameters that make a movie good, and therefore watchable, and those parameters don't always have to be IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes rankings.

Chief critic of the Washington Post Ann Hornaday ( via WPR ) broke down the main factors of a good movie, and they are pretty self-explanatory: the script, the storyline, the actors embodying their roles, and cinematography.  According to MasterClass , there's no clear-cut answer. And according to the Cornell Daily Sun , making an interesting movie may tie deeper into the human brain.

Issues aside, there are some solid movies set in the Land of the Pharaohs. However you define good, here are some highlights set in ancient Egypt.

Prince of Egypt (1998)

There is no shortage of movies about Moses. The biblical prophet of Ten Commandments fame just begs to be cast into a compelling narrative, whether it's based on fact, fiction, or a little bit of both. "Prince of Egypt" just puts it all together so well. 

According to Collider , "Prince of Egypt" was the very first movie commissioned by DreamWorks, and there is nothing else quite like it despite the extensive resume that DreamWorks currently boasts. Everything in the movie is animated by hand, and the character and scene designs are just plain superior to other animated movies, both of the time and to this day. Roger Ebert referred to it as "one of the best-looking animated films ever made," and went on to add, "we sense the touch of human artists in the vision behind the Egyptian monuments, the lonely desert vistas, the thrill of the chariot race, the personalities of the characters."

The darkness of the film is also truly unique to the genre. While DreamWorks has leaned into comedies like "Shrek" and "How To Train Your Dragon," "Prince of Egypt" never deviates from the dark tone that makes it so haunting. There's an actual scene where the angel of death goes around and kills all the firstborns. As Ebert points out, "This is a film that shows animation growing up and embracing more complex themes, instead of chaining itself in the category of children's entertainment."

Agora (2009)

The other Egyptian movie with Rachel Weisz, "Agora" also stars Oscar Isaacs and Max Minghella and sets the scene so well of a Roman-occupied Egypt. And as World History Encyclopedia can attest to, this is a surprisingly accurate movie. While there are minor inaccuracies like the age of Hypatia, the foundation of the film is built on the presence of Christians, and that's where the history is spot on.

That said, not everyone wants to learn about history when they see a movie, and for those that just want to be entertained, the New York Times says you are in good hands as well. The official review of the movie highlights how focused on liberal ideals this movie is, ideals that will appeal to the modern audience. Not just that, but it reflects the modern-day too. It's chock full of warning bells that, while grating at times, still need to be heard.

"Agora" tells the story of a slave (Minghella) who finds the Christian message as his hope to achieve freedom from bondage. All the while, Hypatia (Weisz) teaches science and reason to a class that includes said slave, and a love triangle develops, establishing a thread of romance. And in the background, the battle between Christians and pagans bubbles on the streets of Alexandria. 

Gods of Egypt (2016)

By all accounts, "Gods of Egypt" is not a good movie. You can reference any review, any ranking website, anything, and you will find a general murmur of dissent around the making of this movie, the message of this movie, and pretty much everything else about this movie. But that doesn't inherently make a movie unwatchable, and as many have pointed out, this movie is actually entertaining, thanks in part to its flaws.

If you go in knowing exactly what to expect, this is a movie that can satisfy. Even though the New York Times berates the whole movie, it leaves a familiar sentiment: "If 'Gods of Egypt' were any worse, it might be a masterpiece," adding that watching the movie is "a demented entertainment" before admitting that it was indeed enjoyable — perhaps from a so good it's bad standpoint, but still good by that standard. 

The Guardian  smashes the movie's qualities to bits but still resolves to call it "tremendously fun." They go on to highlight what makes "Gods of Egypt" so unique, and that's its "sheer number of fantastic and antic set pieces" spanning from the depths of the underworld to the tops of pyramids.

So yes, this is not an acclaimed movie, but both the New York Times and Roger Ebert hail various parts of its entertainment value — the action sequences, the backstory, and the visuals. 

Cleopatra (1963)

If you've got four hours to kill and have already seen too much of "Lawrence of Arabia," the 1963 epic "Cleopatra" is a good place to invest the time. For all of the movies out there about Egypt, there is an adjacent list of all the movies depicting the whimsical Cleopatra as the centerpiece. So, with plenty to choose from, the question is why go with "Cleopatra" when there are many, many more options?

What this one has that the others don't is a firm dedication to the compelling character  Cleopatra is. As Britannica points out , she was so powerful as a leader that she influenced Roman politics at the height of their empire. That is no small feat. In terms of powerful women in history, you need look no further. And while "Cleopatra" struggles in other accuracy departments, via Egyptian Streets , the character of Cleopatra is spot on with her arc of rising to the throne and then her involvement with Marc Antony and the Romans.

The Hollywood Reporter hits it perfectly with their assessment of the film's quality: "Power and passion are the twin and intertwined themes of 'Cleopatra,' and they have never burned with greater intensity or amid such opulence as they do in this extraordinary film."

And hey, if the 1963 film doesn't sound like your cup of tea, there's a remake starring Gal Gadot as Cleopatra coming soon too ( via Vanity Fair ).

The Mummy (1932)

The original "The Mummy" boasts a legacy that stretches back nearly a century. Not only did it give us the remake goodness of Brendan Fraser, but it established the actual monster "the mummy" on the same scale as the budding monster genre superstars it was sharing the big screen with. Way back in 1932, monster movies were still budding, and while "The Wolfman," "Frankenstein," and "Dracula" have their claim to fame, "The Mummy" is right alongside them.

After Universal Pictures had given the world "Dracula" and "Frankenstein" one year earlier, "The Mummy" took viewers to ancient Egypt like never before. What sets the classic "The Mummy" up isn't even necessarily its horror accolades, according to Audiences Everywhere, though it certainly has roots in that genre. It's the fact that it's more accurately a romance across time.

And just one more checkmark on the "why it's so good" list, unlike "Dracula" and "Frankenstein," "The Mummy" is an original story, according to David Robson's "The Mummy ," with a few roots in an Italian story, but otherwise a story untold.

It retains such popularity among modern viewers that for the 90th anniversary, NECA unleashed new "The Mummy" action figures for 2022.

The Mummy (1999)

There have been a lot of movies that have tried to remake the successes of the 1932 "The Mummy,"  as Collider points out , but the only one that has hit with any real resonance is the namesake itself — the 1999 remake, "The Mummy," directed by Stephen Sommers. While not a take-for-take remake of the 1932 monster classic, it's steeped in the same lore and hits on a lot of the same notes.

"The Mummy" is a cult classic if ever there was one. Thrillist refers to it (perhaps a little tongue-in-cheek) as the only perfect movie, adding, "'The Mummy '  belongs to a more carefree era, where blockbusters were made for a fraction of today's price and not everything had to set up a franchise." Essentially, it was the in the right place at the right time with just the right goods. Doubling up on Thrillist, What Culture refers to "The Mummy" as the perfect action movie, highlighting that it is how a remake should be done since most remakes these days are rather lacking, as an editorial in Rotten Tomatoes  notes.

And it would be irresponsible not to mention how fantastic both Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are. Fraser was monumental in the role and even inspired such young actors as Daniel Radcliff (via Cinema Blend ) with his performance.

So while this movie doesn't technically take place in ancient Egypt, it spends enough time there and wouldn't exist without the mythology and folklore of it.

Stargate (1994)

While generally (and unfavorably) referred to as a rare movie that was worse than its spinoff shows ( via ScreenRant ), that doesn't mean that the 1994 science fiction flick "Stargate" isn't worth the viewing experience. Datebook says that exact notion — it's worth it to go back into the world that began in this movie (based on a book).

The story, which follows James Spader as a professor and Kurt Russell as a retired Army colonel, takes the two from the modern era back to a parallel world that is essentially just an amalgamation of ancient Egypt, with Ra ruling as a despot.

The Hollywood Reporter nails the allure of the original movie in their 1994 review: "'Stargate '  is a blast from the past in many ways, but it imaginatively employs the latest special effects technology to give audiences new thrills." They add that the movie is an "entertaining throwback to mainstream adventure epics with a good mixture of traditional sci-fi elements and character-driven comedy."

Hard to make it sound any better than that. But Datebook doubles up on the original success by speaking to its value to the modern viewer. They say that there is no better time to go back and watch a movie that has always felt like a throwback. This is a classic science fiction, and that's what makes it so timeless.

Joseph: King of Dreams (2000)

After the success of "Prince of Egypt," DreamWorks decided to follow up on the biblical narrative wave of momentum with the story of Joseph, famous from the modern adaptation "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" — though the animated feature certainly played the story a bit closer to the Bible than its 1968 musical competitor . 

DreamWorks released "Joseph: King of Dreams" as their first made-for-video offering, according to Variety . While it's hard to stack up to the "Prince of Egypt," not to mention the general lack of success in sequels, DreamWorks delivered with another marvel full of rich storytelling and expert voice-acting. Variety draws attention to another focal point of the successes of the film — the music. They refer to the "soaring anthems" of the film and how they expected the songs to fly right into the mainstream music scene.

The Los Angeles Times highlights its "beautiful, big-screen quality, flowing animation and striking computer-generated imagery," as well as quality of its graceful and heartfelt content. And, reading further, it does exactly what "Prince of Egypt" did in not trying to be funny. It embraced its own vibe and made the most of it.

The Mummy Returns (2001)

Sequels generally don't do as well in nearly every category, according to the Spectator, and the same holds true for the sequel to "The Mummy ." But there is still a lot of residual carryover just in having the original cast: Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, just to name three, reprise their roles. But for some, like Roger Ebert, one of the perks of the sequel is the addition of Freddie Boath, who plays the son of Fraser and Weisz. According to Ebert , "Alex, the kid, adds a lot to the movie by acting just like a kid. I particularly enjoyed it when he was kidnapped by a fearsome adversary."

The other notable addition is The Rock, who made his big screen debut right here in "The Mummy Returns." Although you won't see that much of him, and when you do, he may have his head CGI'd atop a giant scorpion. Yet  Entertainment Weekly sings the praises of the star and points out how this appearance sparked the now prevalent acting career of the wrestling sensation. This performance would pave the way to an expanded role in "The Scorpion King" movies.

Pharoah (1967)

Adapted from a Polish novel, "Pharoah" tells the story of the fictional Rameses XIII and his quest to reform ancient Egypt, with his chief opponent, the priest Herhor, trying to stop him. It explores themes of friendship, of power struggle, love, secrecy and even a bit of mysticism and plays it all very tightly to the actual historicity of what ancient Egyptians actually lived like.

While not every movie-goer intends to learn about history in their viewing experience, at least not as their primary objective, it still must be noted when a movie truly excels in the authenticity department. And sure, most probably haven't heard of this particular film, but if ever there was a craving for a true representation of life in ancient Egypt, this is it. In fact, it made the rounds so successfully that it even made it up for a 1967 Oscar nomination in best foreign film. 

Martin Scorsese himself, the movie-making maestro, included the film on his 21 Inspirational Masterpieces list, which hails "Pharoah" as "a historical fresco of universal meaning (adapted from the lauded novel by Bolesław Prus), revealing the mechanisms of power and the influence of religion on social life."

Carry On Cleo (1964)

Following the blockbuster release of the sprawling, four-hour epic "Cleopatra," the British "Carry On" series took its parody recipe and applied it to the hulking ancient Egyptian behemoth. While comedies are by nature a bit more hit-and-miss for critics, this one carries a lot of the successes that can be found elsewhere in the "Carry On" series. According to Variety , "The practiced cast of Old Regulars are also, mainly, up to form, with Sidney James as Mark Antony and Kenneth Connor as Hengist the Wheelmaker particularly prominent."

Of course, it would be silly to come to a parody for historical authenticity, but the Guardian brings the highlights as well, summarizing the movie as, "spot-on ancient Egyptian boob and toilet jokes," while still taking the time to slight the lack of authenticity. As long as Egyptian boob and toilet jokes are your thing, you're in the right place. 

The story itself documents the famous Cleopatra — but remember, don't come to this movie for the story, come for the comedy. The movie starts with a title card, "Whilst the characters and events in this story are based on actual characters and events, certain liberties have been taken with Cleopatra," and this is the humor that is maintained throughout the film — love it or hate it.

The Ten Commandments (1956)

There are simply no bigger movies set in ancient Egypt than the renowned Charlton Heston playing Moses in " The Ten Commandments ." At least if you're looking at it from a money grossing standpoint. It is the highest-grossing Christian-themed movie of all time, beating out "Ben-Hur." And if you adjust for inflation, it has grossed $2 billion, according to Yahoo! Entertainment , which would put it sixth all time (via IMDB ), behind "Titanic" and above "Jaws." If that still isn't enough to make this good enough for at least one viewing, consider that The Hollywood Reporter's review of the film in 1956 had some pretty intense praise: "It is not just a great and powerful motion picture, although it is that; it is also a new human experience."

The film tells the tale of Moses and the narrative surrounding the creation of the Ten Commandments as the foundational tenets of the Christian faith. But this movie goes beyond just the Christian viewer as well. After all, consider another quote from The Hollywood Reporter's review: "Is it a great movie? Entertaining? Artistic? Well, yes. When you think of Egypt, films are not something that usually comes to mind first. Still, quite a lot of movies set in Egypt exist or were filmed there at least partially.

It’s actually not that surprising either really, considering Egypt has some beautiful and unique backdrops for a director to film his or her scenes in. For instance the Pyramids of Giza, Cairo’s busy downtown area, or the scenic desert. Not to mention its ruins, locations of natural beauty and impossibly rich history which can be mined for inspiration.

And it is these emblematic elements that have attracted (and continue to attract) storytellers throughout the history of modern cinema and today the spirit of Egypt has been immortalized in different films resulting in a wonderfully intricate and excellent array of movies set in Egypt.

We love this because one of the reasons why we watch movies is that they are an excellent way to travel to different places while staying at home – and to determine if a destination elicits that oh-so-important spirit of wanderlust in us before ever investing in a ticket there. 

This is what motivated us to visit Cuba , Australia , and Montana  – among many other places. Then there are those glorious moments you can step out in a real-world location and feel spontaneously dispatched back inside an iconic movie frame (thus the abiding popularity of  visiting Middle Earth / New Zealand  or  James Bond’s Skyfall ).

In this article, we will discuss ten films that had either important scenes filmed in the land of the pharaohs, or were shot almost completely on location there.

Malcolm X (1992)

Malcolm X is an American biographical drama film about the African-American activist Malcolm X. The movie was directed and co-written by Spike Lee, and stars Denzel Washington, Angela Bassett, and Albert Hall. It tells the story of Malcolm X (Washington), who calls himself the angriest Negro in the country.

Unlike Martin Luther King, as a militant black Muslim leader, he preaches the radical liberation of the black population. And so he becomes public enemy number one. His movements are being monitored by the FBI, CIA, and various other intelligence agencies. Malcolm X hates white people until he goes on a pilgrimage to Mecca.

Some filming on Malcolm X was done in Egypt’s capital Cairo, as part of the story is set there. The Great Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha can be seen in the movie, it is a mosque located in the Citadel of Cairo.

Flatfoot in Egypt is an Italian comedy film directed by Steno and starring Bud Spencer, Enzo Cannavale, and Baldwyn Dakile. It is the fourth and final chapter in the Flatfoot film series. The movie tells the story of Commissioner ‘Flatfoot’ Rizzo (Spencer) who must solve the kidnapping of the daughter of an American oil tycoon and a scientist who has discovered a new way to discover oil wells. With his small protégé and his clumsy aide, he follows the trail to Egypt.

Bud Spencer is one of the heroes of Italian cinema, he and Terence Hill rose to stardom when they starred in the first-ever comedic spaghetti western in 1970. Many films with this comedic duo followed, and eventually, they started starring in solo films as well. Typical in these movies is the humor, and the cartoonish, slapstick fights.

Most of Flatfoot in Egypt was actually shot in Egypt, but not that much is known in terms of actual locations, besides that most filming was done at El-Wahat el-Bahariya, a depression and a naturally rich oasis in the Western Desert of Egypt, located approximately 370 kilometers away from Cairo.

Jumper is an American science fiction action film directed by Doug Liman and starring Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson, and Rachel Bilson. It is somewhat loosely based on the Steven Gould novels of the same name published in 1992.

The story revolves around David Rice (Christensen), who discovers at a young age that he is a jumper, meaning he can teleport himself from one place to another. He uses these special powers to give himself a luxurious life. However, the Paladin organization led by Roland Cox (Jackson) is hunting all jumpers, because they believe only God may have the power to be in any place at any time.

Jumper was filmed in many countries and cities including Rome in Italy and Tokyo in Japan , too many to list them all here. One of the filming locations includes Giza, the second-largest city in Egypt after Cairo, and the capital of Giza Governorate. This is the only Egyptian location that can be seen in the film, but because it does feature the Great Pyramid of Giza and the nearby Great Sphinx of Giza on the movie poster, we just had to include it in this list of movies set in.

Fair Game is a political drama film directed by Doug Liman and starring Naomi Watts, Sean Penn and Bruce McGill. The movie is a co-production of the United States and the United Arab Emirates.

It tells the story of Joseph Wilson (Penn), who is sent to Iraq by the CIA to write a report on possible weapons of mass destruction located there. Wilson finds absolutely nothing of the kind in Iraq, publishes his report in the New York Times, and writes that he feels the United States’ invasion of Iraq was illegal. This exposes the identity of his wife, Valerie Plame (Watts), who is a CIA agent.

Fair Game was filmed in various countries and cities, including the capital of Egypt, Cairo. While several scenes were filmed there, no real well-known landmarks appear on screen. Additional scenes were filmed at the Cairo University, which is located in Giza, immediately across the Nile from Cairo.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is an American science fiction action film directed by Michael Bay and starring Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, and Josh Duhamel. It is the second installment in the Transformers film series. The film picks up after Transformers (2007). The battle on Earth is over, but the one in the universe has just begun. When Sam Witwicky (LaBeouf) learns the truth about the ancient origins of the Transformers, he must accept his fate and join Optimus Prime and Bumblebee in their epic battle against the Decepticons, who are back stronger than ever and plan to destroy our world.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was shot mostly in the United States, with some shooting also being done in other countries like France , Jordan, and Egypt. The production crew spent three days shooting in Egypt in two locations. The first being the Giza Pyramid Complex, which is the site on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, that includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Menkaure, and the Pyramid of Khafre, along with their associated pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza.

The second location where cameras rolled on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was the city of Luxor, a city located in southern Egypt and the capital of Luxor Governorate. Filming on the movie was supposed to be a secret, but in an interview producer, Lorenzo di Bonaventura later stated pretty much everyone in Egypt knew what was going on.

Death on the Nile is a British mystery film directed by John Guillermin and starring Peter Ustinov, Jane Birkin, and Bette Davis. The movie is based on the famous Agatha Christie novel of the same name published in 1937.

The film tells the story of the cruise ship S.S. Karnak which is sailing the Nile. Almost everyone aboard has a reason to want to see wealthy heiress Linnet Ridgeway dead. Among other things, her jewels are coveted by the elder Mrs. Van Schuyler, her maid is angry at not getting her promised raise, and writer Salome Otterbourne faces a lawsuit brought on by Linnet. When Linnet is found dead, it is up to the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot to unravel this mystery.

Death on the Nile was filmed on various locations in Egypt. One of those locations was Cairo, the capital and largest city of Egypt. Cameras also rolled at the Great Pyramid of Giza, the oldest and largest of the pyramids in the Giza pyramid complex, and at the nearby Great Sphinx of Giza.

Other scenes were filmed in Aswan, a city located in the south of Egypt, and the capital of the Aswan Governorate, and in Luxor, a city located in southern Egypt and the capital of Luxor Governorate. The temples of Abu Simbel and Karnak can also be seen in the film.

Cairo Time is a romantic drama film directed by Ruba Nadda and starring Patricia Clarkson, Alexander Siddig, and Elena Anaya. The film is a co-production between Canada, Ireland , and Egypt. Cairo Time won the award for Best Canadian Film at the Toronto International Film Festival 2009. The movie is about Juliette Grant, who travels to Cairo to meet her husband Mark, only to be told that he has been delayed in Gaza. Mark sends his Egyptian friend Tareq, a police officer, to pick her up and keep her company. But a romantic affair suddenly develops between the two.

Cairo Time was mostly shot on location in Cairo, and quite a few well-known landmarks from the city appear in the film. The conversation at the pyramid blocks was filmed at the Great Pyramid of Giza, while later shots were filmed at the nearby Great Sphinx of Giza. Some scenes were filmed at the Shepheard Hotel, which is actually the second hotel to occupy that spot, after the original building, called Shepheard’s Hotel, burned down in 1952 during the Cairo Fire.

The desert scenes were filmed at El-Wahat el-Bahariya, a depression and a naturally rich oasis in the Western Desert of Egypt, located approximately 370 kilometers away from Cairo, which has been used by many other movies set in Egypt as it is a visually stunning locale.

The Spy Who Loved Me is a British James Bond film, the tenth in the Bond series, directed by Lewis Gilbert and starring Roger Moore, Barbara Bach, and Curd Jürgens.

In the film, the British discover that someone has found a sophisticated way to make submarines untraceable to radar and offer this technology to the highest bidder. An international crisis erupts when a submarine carrying 16 nuclear weapons disappears during a routine cruise. The British Secret Service sends special agent James Bond (Moore) to find the submarine before it can fire its missiles.

James Bond films are usually filmed in various countries and cities (thus our rather extensive list of the best James Bond locations ) and The Spy Who Loved Me is no exception. And it so happens Mister Bond also visits Egypt in this adventure. He starts his investigation with a visit to an old friend who invites him into his desert tent oasis, run by lots of beautiful belly dancers. The oasis had been set up some 30 kilometers south of the capital Cairo at the monument site of Saqqara. Bond then heads to downtown Cairo where he visits an oriental mansion.  This building holds the Gayer-Anderson-Museum these days and it is located next to the Ibn Tulun Mosque. He then proceeds to the Great Pyramid of Giza, and the nearby Great Sphinx of Giza.

He also visits the city of Luxor, and the Karnak Temple Complex which is located nearby Luxor. The last Egyptian location in the film is Abu Simbel, a temple close to the Sudan border. On a side note, Bond also visited Egypt in Diamonds Are Forever (1971), but the Cairo casino scenes are actually filmed on a set and not in the real city.

Cairo Station is an Egyptian drama film directed by Youssef Chahine and starring Farid Shawqi, Hind Rostom, and Youssef Chahine.

The film revolves around Qinawi, an impoverished newspaper vendor, who has a stand-in Cairo’s chaotic central station. He develops an infatuation with the free-spirited Hannuma, who dodges the authorities to peddle soft drinks to passengers. When he faces rejection, Qinawi’s obsession becomes very dangerous as he falls into a state of insanity.

All exterior shots in Cairo Station were filmed in Egypt’s capital Cairo. The interiors were not filmed in a studio, as one might expect, but on location at Ramses Railway Station, which actually is the main railway station of Cairo. The station’s name is derived from the Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses II.

Land of the Pharaohs is a American epic drama film produced and directed by Howard Hawks and starring Jack Hawkins, Joan Collins and Dewey Martin.

The film tells the story of Pharaoh Khu-fu, who in ancient Egypt acquired more and more wealth and slaves after each battle won. He becomes obsessed with his gold and wants to take it with him into his second life after his death. Unfortunately, the pyramids are looted time and again by grave thieves. To put an end to this, the pharaoh enlists the help of one of his slaves, architect Vashtar. He agrees to find a solution on the condition that his compatriots are released when the pyramid is completed. Meanwhile, the pharaoh marries the beautiful princess Nellifer. She too appears to have a great interest in gold and she devises a plan to steal the pharaoh’s wealth.

Exteriors for Land of the Pharaohs were filmed in Egypt, in the capital Egypt, while interiors were done inside a studio in Italy. Two very well-known Egyptian landmarks appear in the movie. One being the Unfinished Obelisk, which is the largest known ancient obelisk, it is located in the northern region of the stone quarries of ancient Egypt in Aswan. And the second is the Unfinished Northern Pyramid of Zawyet El Aryan, which is the term archaeologists and Egyptologists use to describe a large shaft part of an unfinished pyramid at Zawyet El Aryan.

Time travel and time machines have been a topic of science fiction and countless movies for many decades. In fact, it appears that the possibility to travel in time, either into the future or into the past, has appealed to the imagination of mankind for centuries. The majority of physicists have been slow to give up the ordinary assumptions we make about time. If we look at ancient texts, we can find a number of references to time travel. In Hindu mythology, there is the story of King Raivata Kakudmi who travels to meet the creator Brahma . Even if this trip didn’t last long, when Kakudmi returned back to Earth, 108 yugas had passed on Earth, and it is thought that each yuga represents about 4 million years. The explanation Brahma gave to Kakudmi is that time runs differently in different planes of existence.

Similarly, we have references in the Quran about the cave of Al-Kahf. The story refers to a group of young Christian people, who in 250 AD tried to escape persecution and retreated, under God’s guidance, to a cave where God put them to sleep. They woke up 309 years later. This story coincides with the Christian story of the  seven sleepers , with a few differences.

Another story comes from the Japanese legend of Urashima Taro, an individual who was said to visit the underwater palace of the Dragon God Ryujin. He stayed there for three days, but when he returned to the surface, 300 years had passed. In the Buddhist text , Pali Canon, it is written that in the heaven of the thirty Devas (the place of the Gods), time passes at a different pace where one hundred Earth years count as a single day for them. There are many more references to time travel to be found within ancient mythology.

Scientific Research into Time Travel

Probably the most well-known story of accidental time travel is the Philadelphia experiment which allegedly took place in 1943 with the purpose of cloaking a ship and making it invisible to enemy radar . However, it was said that the experiment went terribly wrong – the ship not only vanished completely from Philadelphia but it was teleported to Norfolk and went back in time for 10 seconds.

When the ship appeared again some crew members were physically fused to bulkheads, others developed mental disorders , a few disappeared completely, and some reported travelling into the future and back. Allegedly, Nikola Tesla, who was the director of Engineering and Research at Radio Company of America at the time, was involved in the experiment by making all the necessary calculations and drawings and also providing the generators.

In 1960, we have another interesting case report of scientist Pellegrino Ernetti, who claimed that he developed the Chronivisor, a machine that would enable someone to see in the past. His theory was that anything that happens leaves an energy mark that can never be destroyed (something like the mystical Akashic Records). Ernetti allegedly developed this machine that could detect, magnify and convert this energy into an image – something like a TV showing what happened in the past.

Controversial Experiments Related to Time Travel

In the 1980s, there are reports of another controversial time travel experiment, the  Montauk project , which again allegedly experimented with time travel among other things. Whether the Philadelphia and Montauk experiments actually took place is still under debate. However, it is common sense to assume that the military would definitely be interested in the possibility of time travel and would engage in extensive research on the subject.

In 2004, Marlin Pohlman, a scientist, engineer, and member of Mensa with a Bachelor, MBA and PhD, applied for a patent for a method of gravity distortion and time displacement. In 2013 Wasfi Alshdaifat filed another patent for a space compression and time dilation machine that could be used for time travel.

According to PHYS.ORG , the physicist Professor Ronald Lawrence Mallett of the University of Connecticut was working in 2006 on the concept of time travel , based on Einstein’s theory of relativity. At the time, Mallett was absolutely convinced that time travelling was possible. He predicted that human time travel will be possible in our century. Particle physicist  Brian Cox , quoted in a 2013 article published in HuffPost , agreed that time travel is possible but only in one direction.

We also have the mysterious story of Ali Razeqi, managing director of the Iranian Centre for Strategic Inventions, who The Daily Mail reported had claimed to have developed a device that could see anywhere from 3 to 5 years in the future . His initial story disappeared from the internet a few hours after it was published.

In theory, time travel is possible, even if it is difficult to comprehend. Has the research cited above brought us closer towards making time travel a reality? If so, we can only hope that the technology does not get into the wrong hands.

In fact the more I think of it you don't need clunky machines. That would speak to the paradox theory. I often go back to sorcery as means of technology. Think of time travel or time more like a spell that you have to break in order to travel.

The concept of time is like a cipher or puzzle. All the terminology reads like some sort of anagram. For instance all of its integrals add up to 666 60 secs 60 mins 24hr. 'Aliens' are really time travellers from the very distant future. They can't return to the past physically, in flesh and blood, but they can do so as sort of holographs, travelling fasted than the speed of light. The people of the very distant future may have actually dispensed with their flesh and blood bodies by that time, or they may have simply evolved into skinny people with huge heads and eyes. Either way, they cannot intefere with the past. It's physically impossible for them. Two things are for certain - there are aliens, but no aliens have a human form - which as that of an ape, after all.

What about the theory that states a paradox cannot exist? If you could go back in time and kill yourself or your parents then you never existed to be able to go back in time.

Have you ever asked yourself why we call them ‘the seven wonders of the world’?  Well, it is simply because we just can’t explain them.

So, today I will talk to you about Ancient Egypt and time travel. Do you think there is any connection?

Even though we have a very advanced technology, and thousands of years of knowledge we still cannot understand how the pyramids were built and of course by whom?

What do you think was the reason for these monuments being built?

It was about 2600BC when this unique construction was made, as a tomb for the Pharaoh Khufu.

It is said that hundreds and thousands of slaves worked on its construction for more than twenty years. But how could such a perfect structure be achieved just with some copper and brass tools?

It is more than that

Do you all know where the Cheops pyramid is? Looking at its location on the map of the earth, it is exactly at the geographical centre of the land surface of the Earth.

How did this happen? Is it a coincidence?

I, personally don’t think so. And if it was not accidentally built in this location, what was the purpose of this location? What was the purpose of this construction except serving as a grave for a great Pharaoh?

Construction

Ok. Now let’s talk about the construction of this huge monument.

It uses about two and a half million blocks of stone each one weighing at least, two tons, some of them up to even 50 tons.

Just think that all these massive blocks were moved somehow, cut and fixed to one to the other so tight that nothing can pass through them.

The height of the pyramid is over 400 feet. So could this all be done by slaves? No matter how much time they worked for, do you think it is possible?

Each one of the 4 sides of the base of the pyramid is over 750 feet in length, so this really is a massive construction.

How can you explain the fact that the four sides of the pyramid are orientated exactly to the cardinal points (North, south, and east, west)?

I can’t give an answer to all these questions, but what I can understand is that the Egyptians might have had an advanced knowledge of mathematics and earth measurements.

The pyramid had been built with such perfection that we can’t explain it. Even to this day in our times, we haven’t seen something like this.

Looking at the location of all the pyramids, they form a belt around the world, the one which connects the Bermuda triangle. This zone is named ’the zone of silence’ by the Mexicans.

In this particular zone, radio and any electronic equipment do not work and many weird things have happened. Planes disappear, meteors are attracted to it and of course, there are many other happenings.

Scientists claim that the pyramids were built over 4600 years ago, but we also know that copper and bronze were used but not iron.

How were these huge stones cut and shaped with this accuracy? Even by today’s standards, it would remain a challenge.

Under the pyramids, large tunnels have been found hundreds of meters deep and drilled with 90-degree perfect angles. How could this be done only with the use of hand tools?

A little bit of science for you who are interested (and who understand)

There is a field of science (Tectono Magnetism) which studies the changes of the earth’s tectonic plates. It is said that the Earth is held together inside by triangular pyramid-shaped energy. The strange thing is that the pyramids are located on a belt exactly at the point where this energy has contact with the Earth.

On this enormous magnetic field maybe we can find the explanation for the strange things that happen in the Bermuda triangle, as this is also situated on this belt.

It is supposed that there was a functional purpose for the location of the pyramids in these positions.

Looking at these points, do you think the pyramids were designed to be used only as a grave? They were more like a cone-shaped energy, a tube, connected with the gravity.

In his book’ Physics of the Impossible’ Michio Kaku, claims that a civilization who could control gravity could easily control this energy and travel in space to interstellar distances and even travel through time.

So, as we can see, our civilization is way behind in technology and science, so the pyramids could be gateways for travel in space and time.

Astronomy, its connection with the pyramids

  Why does astronomy play an important role in the construction of the pyramids?

Robert Bauval in his book ‘The Orion Mystery’ claims that there is a connection between the pyramids and the three stars that form Orion’s belt.

There must be an explanation for all this and it is not impossible for this ancient (yet so advanced) civilization to have had the knowledge of time and outer space travel.

Who is Scarlet Moffatt? She is 26 years old former Google boxer and while she was talking to “Ι ‘m A Celebrity” she admits that she believes that pyramids were built not by aliens but from people from the future. Her theory was that we need a speed faster than the speed of light in order to travel in the past. So how are the pyramids connected with this? The tip of the Cheops Pyramid is at the same latitude as the speed of light so the future humans went back in time to built this ‘time machine’. The speed of light is 299,792,458 metres per second  and the cooordinates of the pyramid is 29.9792458°N,  Is this just a coincidence? as we know the speed of the light is the most probable way of  time travel so maybe the creators of the Pyramids came from the future and built this monuments as time machines or just to give us clues? maybe the creators were humans from a far future or maybe a very developed alien civilization. Who can answer to these questiions?

We know that the creators of all those reat construction were seen as gods and as a devine power. Ok i am not going on the road of the religion talking but for sure was a major power.

While everybody was laughing with her theory Stephen Hawkins contacted Scarlet and told her that he agrees with her theory.He claims that her theory is very believable and has a base.

Just think about the 3000 old hieroglyphs found in Gyza Pyramid , showin high tech technology as an helicopter, a modern space craft,a tank, among the snakes , insects and other symbold. You just can assumer that the ancient egyptian have seen those modern machines or at least pictures of them What do you think?

  I have read so many things about this world wonder and it’s mystery’s and more and more I am convinced that yes, they could travel in time.

They had much more advanced knowledge and technology than what we think. More and more archaeological proves and urban legends show that time travel was mastered from those civilisations, ancient but more advanced than we thought.

so very interesting and a great article! of course it’s only my opinion, but I believe there is no way that the great pyramids are merely tombs or shrines. as you said, it seems virtually impossible that man could create structures like these thousands of years ago. with all the angles and symmetry with rudimentary tools, i just don’t have any idea how that was possible. so there was some “help” from somewhere. interesting too how you tied in the bermuda triangle and all the unexplained phenomena that has occurred there. thanks for sharing! -kevin

Wow! What a captivating website. I am a big fan of time travel and I wondered if the Philadelphia experiment would be mentioned. But as I figured, you really have done your homework. I have reams about the Philadelphia experiment. On that note though I would double check your info on the Eldridge. It was not a destroyer as I believe they depicted in the movie but a mine sweeper. Mine sweepers have lots of magnetic coils within the bow which made them more suitable for use in the experiment. As far as the website, you get a triple A rating from me. I’m convinced we are so behind technologically that we have no idea what it was built for, but i’m sure its not just a pyramid! I’ve read theories that it may be one of many space portals on Earth. Imagine that! Maybe it does hold some sort of special energy which can transport us through space and time, awesome!

I really like that you put so much effort in your articles. I personally don’t think that pyramids were just tombs or shrines. It just doesn’t make sense! If you want to make a shrine, you probably would want to decorate it as much as possible. Pyramids don’t look like typical shrines. Looks like they could be actually functional. Scientists have actually discovered how they moved these huge blocks to build the pyramids. It is actually pretty simple. They used water. All they did was pour water on the sand to make it moist. This way the sand doesn’t build up in front and it also reduces friction significantly. It is still very very hard but scientists say it is possible to move these bricks with water. This is also portrayed in the hieroglyphics. You can check out the article on IFLS.

As for it being on the cardinal points, I have no idea. I have always been interested in the Bermuda triangle and these conspiracy theories have always been an interest to me.

I think that Aliens created the pyramids. I really do. If it still tough create pyramids in this day and age than the only logical explanation is that MAN did not create the pyramids. Some higher being created it. That is my belief. I mean I’ve watched a few documentaries about things like this and the only thing that made since to me is that people did create these pyramids. Interesting! I always wonder how they could build those pyramids and always questioned the answers of scientists. If the answer is water why didn’t they continue to build them over the years? what happened that they stopped (because the water is still there)? Why can’t we build the same pyramids today? Probably because it was an opportunity they received for only a period of time. I’m not going to say it’s aliens like it is mentioned in many movies (even though it could be true)but I do agree with your theory of time-travel. Maybe it was a technically advanced human race that provided them with this gift as some sort of gratitude.

I am one who loves mystery.Figuring out the way at how these magnificent pyramids have been built certainly got me all mesmerized and curious.

I like the theory of Scarlet Moffat. I would certainly entertain the thought that somehow, time travel is a possibility. Look, initially, I was okay with the idea of ‘aliens,’ having something to so do with it. But, from a scientific viewpoint and the fact that the tip of these pyramids is at the latitude of the speed of light, makes somewhat sense of time travel being a possibility.

I will follow your site and follow this story. In the meantime. the best we can do is marvel at these structures and how amazing they are built.
