There were luxurious lodges nestled in serene nature with spectacular views, nightly five course luscious meals in private rooms, unfamiliar stars dotting the sky.

Image Alt Text

Many thanks for the trip for my brothers and I to Pebble Beach. We had a fantastic time. The Spanish Inn is the right place to stay. Great atmosphere.

Image Alt Text

Jono, we so appreciate you taking time to meet us and transport us and ALL of our luggage to and from Tara Iti. We certainly feel like we got a taste of Melbourne and New Zealand. We were so impressed with the people and the land and the conservation efforts that are taken to keep New Zealand naturally beautiful. Ending the vacation with the most incredible Helicopter tour yesterday was the icing on the cake!

Image Alt Text

Golf was truly spectacular, all 10 rounds occasionally surrounded by spectator sheep, trying to keep an eye on the ball from the competing peaks and valleys, noticing impact sound through crisp air bouncing off the sky. A memorable picnic at a snow capped mountain top during the Heli tour of the Milford sound, sailing catamaran cruise at the Bay of Islands with lovely Rainy and Neal, and surprisingly wonderful ATV tour of Kauri Cliffs were weaved in perfectly between the rounds.

Pebble Beach

Many thanks for the trip for my brothers and I to Pebble Beach. We had a fantastic time. The Spanish Inn is the right place to stay. Great atmosphere. The links at Spanish Bay was terrific, too good a course for me, but fantastic. Poopy Hills was really nice and a bit easier more like courses I was used to. Pebble Beach, what a course. Like you suggested the tee off was touch and go to finish, but we did finish all 18, although it was pretty dark putting on the 18th. The sea mist coming in was just about more of an issue at times, but really added to it all.

Planning a New Zealand golf holiday?

Golf vacations new zealand specialise in arranging customised self-drive holidays for individuals and small groups., we focus on your needs, providing flexibility and working with you to create a holiday that fulfils and hopefully exceeds your expectations., new zealand is a great golfing destination, having one of the highest number of golf courses per head of capita in the world, offering plenty of variety and incredible scenery.  with its temperate climate and friendly people, a golfing holiday in new zealand is something special..

We like to think we develop a rapport and understanding with clients which can lead to remaining in contact for many years.  To help you decide if we are the sort of business that you wish to use to assist with organising your New Zealand golf holiday, here is some background on us.

Golf Vacations New Zealand Ltd was established in 2009 and is owned and operated by Colin and Renee Wells.  For us, the business is as much about lifestyle as anything.  We love to travel, are passionate about New Zealand, addicted to golf and enjoy meeting people.  We limit the number of clients we take on each year; this ensures the high level of service we provide and also allows us to spend time with family and friends, enjoy golf and do plenty of travelling and research.  During recent times of restricted international travel we purchased a motorhome and spent time travelling to some of the more remote and lesser-known parts of New Zealand, which has  helped extend our knowledge.  Have a look at the Services We Offer and see if we are what you are looking for to make your New Zealand golfing holiday a reality.

  • Review Golf Vacations New Zealand Day Tours

Well, we made it home safely after a wonderful experience in your country. Thanks for organising the trip. It was absolutely amazing and we enjoyed every minute of it. Your expertise in arranging our itinerary was fantastic. Thanks again. We will certainly use your company again.

Thank you, Colin and Renee, for an experience that far surpassed all our expectations. The golf was exciting, the accommodations were superb and your hospitality was wonderful. Although we will be back, we look forward to having you visit us in Hawaii.

Colin and Renee’s organisation of our golf tour and all the accommodation was brilliant and very efficient. We also stayed four days at Okura River Lodge and you could not find better hosts than Colin and Renee.

Thanks for all your help. We plan to visit New Zealand again in 2015 or 2016 and combine it with a trip to Australia. We will definitely have you co-ordinate all of the logistics. We have also recommended Golf Vacations New Zealand to several of our friends at our club who are thinking of a holiday in New Zealand. Our pictures of the courses and accommodation really impressed them.

Just a short note to say many thanks for a most enjoyable two weeks of golf on your 2014 South Island tour. Our group had a great time and please let us know of any future trips. Hope this finds you both well and once again many thanks.

Many thanks for such a great holiday. We both really appreciate all your efforts to make the trip so enjoyable. The stay with you both at the beginning and the end at your lovely home [Okura River Lodge] was the icing on the cake. So many laughs and good memories.

Our trip to New Zealand was great and we enjoyed it very much. The organisation via emails and all the helpful information have been excellent. You did a great job and even managed to organise good weather. We have been very happy and will always recommend your company, excellent value for money. As soon as we plan to come back we will contact you.

Me and Flo want to thank you for the great vacation you organised for us in New Zealand. Locations were good, the golf was excellent and the tips you gave us on things to see and places to eat were priceless. Hope to see you again perhaps in New Zealand or if you make it to KL or Chicago at some time in the future.

We both greatly enjoyed our stay in NZ and much of this is due to the inputs and preparations made by yourselves. Once again many, many thanks from us both to you both.

Good to see you both again yesterday, and we can’t thank you enough for such a well organised golf holiday, everything went so smoothly, and especially great to have mobile phones and GPS. We found the folders amazing, so much detail, with all the maps, suggestions etc – way above anything we have experienced previously. Thank you also for the hat and towel.

Again many many thanks.

I want to again thank both of you for the fabulous golf vacation you provided Bill and I last month. The complete package of type and location golf courses selected, accommodations, food and overall attentiveness to our needs was wonderfully planned and executed. In addition the afternoon at Te Pohue and time at Wairunga provided a great opportunity to learn about New Zealand. You met and exceeded our expectations to a substantial degree. Plus you were both extremely pleasant and charming people with whom to spend 11 days. We very much enjoyed your company on and off the golf course.

If I can ever provide a recommendation, or support in some way your business development efforts, please don’t hesitate to ask. Also I hope my review in the “Trip Advisor” was appropriate.

We had a fabulous holiday in NZ, Nov. 2010. It was our good fortune that we found your website. It was so impressive that you answered us with a plan that really suited our needs. The itinerary you put together was perfect! From the minute we arrived you were in touch. You were both so professional and made our holiday so relaxing and fun. The transportation was so comfortable and you handled all the details from wineries to golfing, to dinners. You are delightful hosts. We will most definitely be back to do some more golf and tour with you.

I personally really enjoyed working with Golf Vacations – there was nothing too much to ask, you were prompt getting back to me & rather helpful with everything, and you were fantastic when I asked you for something above & beyond to assist my clients getting some information. Thank you!

Like all good tour operators, Renee and Colin are knowledgeable, helpful and they look after the details. But what sets them apart is their knowledge of golf, and perhaps more important is their understanding of the needs and expectations of golfers with their Type A, competitive and outgoing personalities.

For future individuals or large groups considering using your company as a service I strongly recommend that they do so. The Cadieux’s and ourselves were extremely impressed with how well organized you were, and how easy you made everything for us. The accommodations you recommended were great and your hospitality was second to none. You both went the extra mile hosting a wonderful dinner at your home.

We now consider you friends first, and a service provider as a bonus. We hope to come back to New Zealand and share time with you again. Thanks and good luck.

For anyone planning a golf vacation in New Zealand, regardless of group size or handicap, Colin and Renee of Golf Vacations New Zealand Ltd is your ideal choice. We called upon Golf Vacations New Zealand to plan our five day golf trip around the Auckland area for our group of eight. Working around our schedule, Colin and Renee planned every perfect detail from safe, modern transportation to a great selection of golf courses, dinners after golf and even a birthday cake for a member of the group.

How do you end a month long tour of New Zealand? You book your last four days with “Golf Vacations”.

Golf Vacations arranged accommodations at a superb B&B, organized golf games at two different and challenging courses, winery tours and lunches, visit to “Sheep World” and daily dining at local area restaurants. Our package included transportation to and from all the venues including transportation to the airport for our flights home. Golf Vacations eliminated all the stress out of our final four days.

Thanks “Golf Vacations” for your attention to detail. You made our stay memorable and we are looking forward to do this again in the future.

I appreciate that we had great time in New Zealand. It was lucky that I could see nice place by you. I hope your business goes well and hope we can be of assistance in the future too.

New Zealand

Custom tours escorted tours golf cruises feature vacations.

Along with remarkable new golf, this New Zealand golf vacation package includes the marvel of travel to New Zealand with its diverse and striking landscape. The country seems to change around each corner, offering panoramas filled with natural beauty. In addition to playing golf in New Zealand you can also embrace and enjoy the best in New Zealand travel.

Experience every imaginable landform, including vast snowcapped mountain chains, steaming volcanoes, sweeping, rugged coastlines deeply indented fiords (such as the breathtaking Fiordland National Park) and dense, lush rainforests.

Comparable in size to California or Japan, New Zealand has a population of just four million making for a refreshing change of pace. As a people, the Kiwis are among the most relaxed and engaging in the world. Visitors are easily befriended. The exotic locales sprinkled across the nation feel like home.

The lodges sprinkled throughout New Zealand are captivating and comfortable, enchanting and endearing, opening the windows to new horizons and providing a respite certain to recharge your body, mind and soul. Set amid natural beauty, varying from rustic to elegant, these lodges are memorable for their taste and variety.

It is no wonder that thrilling golf is abundant in such a place. From traditional to modern, links to parkland, more than 400 courses exist today, with roots dating to 1871. There are classic layouts like Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club near Wellington which was opened after World War II as a links style masterpiece. Royal Wellington , considered one of the finest parkland courses in New Zealand, is perched alongside the Hutt River near Silverstream. The club was founded in 1895 but the current course was redesigned in 2013 by Greg Turner and Scott Macpherson and has proven to be a stout championship test, playing host to the Asia-Pacific Amateur.

Local hero Sir Bob Charles, the 1963 Open Champion, has authored perennial favorite Millbrook offering a truly unique golfing experience set against the stunning alpine backdrop of The Remarkables mountain range.

The Hills is carved from the earth, meandering through lakes, waterways and wetlands areas, sprawling across 500 acres with dramatic elevation changes, cutting through a glacial valley and featuring everchanging sculptures dotting the property.

Jack’s Point is also nestled among The Remarkables, offering delightful views of Lake Wakatipu and located only 20 minutes from downtown Queenstown. Kinloch Club was designed by Jack Nicklaus to resemble the great links courses of Ireland and Scotland. However, instead of offering views of the ocean, golfers can admire the beauty of Lake Taupo, which is New Zealand’s largest freshwater lake.

On the South Islands, Christchurch is the second-oldest course in the country with a tradition dating to 1873. The legendary six-time Open champion Peter Thomson redesigned the layout in 2011. In the same region, Clearwater has played host to international golfing superstars in both the men’s and women’s game. Lydia Ko shot 61 on the course in 2015!

Golf and wildlife co-exist in harmony at Wairakei, which brought to life the vision of owner Gary Lane, combining a world class course on a sanctuary where “kiwi chicks” and other birdlife is safe to carry on predator-free.

Kauri Cliffs in Northland provides remarkable stunning views of Hawke’s Bay and its sister course, Tom Doak’s remarkable Cape Kidnappers in Napier were instantly thrust into the world 100 from birth. The combination of unforgettable golf and spectacular scenery are responsible for drawing golfers from around the world to the region. These two courses simply must be seen to be appreciated.

Wherever you play, you will be captivated by one remarkable landform after another. Glaciers grind their way down the Southern Alps. Lake Taupo , located in the center of the North Island and formed by an ancient volcano, is neighbor now to a pair of active mountains – Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu. The pristine lake is prized worldwide for the quality of its trout fishing, legendary for their condition and size. The Tongariro River at the southern end of Lake Taupo is one of the best fly fishing trout rivers in the world. Hawke’s Bay is a sunny, dry, Mediterranean-style home to red wine, glorious beaches, and lively celebrations of Matariki, the Maori New Year. Milford Sound is Rudyard Kipling’s “Eighth Wonder of the World”!

Bats are the only land-dwelling mammal native to New Zealand, joining marine mammals such as dolphins, seals and whales. The nation is known as the seabird capital of the world with several rare species like the bonded rail and the spotless crake. Even still, many of the birds are flightless, which is interesting in its own right.

Of course, any trip to New Zealand also provides the delightful opportunity to sample its vast array of wines. Marlborough is the largest of the 11 distinct major wine growing regions, with many sub-regions beginning to develop as well. The Marlborough region received global recognition in the 1980s for the sauvignon blanc it produced and is unique for enjoying a combination of cool temperatures, high sunshine, low rainfall and moderately draining soil. Most of the regions are found on the eastern coastline of the North and South islands, close to the mountains where they can flourish under consistent and plentiful rainfall.

New Zealand is a land of wonder and beauty. The wide, open spaces and relaxed pace at which the natives live will provide a enthralling and fulfilling trip, certain to prompt a desire to soon return to the lovely land of Kiwis.

New Zealand weather

New Zealand's climate is pretty mellow for much of the year. There is a far greater seasonal difference in the South Island than in the subtropical North.

In Central Otago, winter temperatures are often 14°F (-10°C),with summers up to 100°F to 104°F (38°C-40°C). The northern part of the North Island is subtropical which means lots of winter/spring rain.

The west coast of the South Island can get up to 100 inches or more of rain a year on its side of the Southern Alps.

It goes without saying that New Zealand golf holidays provide an experience like nowhere else – a fact that hasn’t been lost on anyone who’s been fortunate enough to enjoy a round or two here. Depending on your chosen course, you could find yourself staring open-mouthed at any number of beautiful backdrops: from endless ocean views to snow-capped mountains, alpine hillsides to sweeping valleys. As you stand on the 1st tee of pretty much any course you visit, you’ll quickly realise that playing golf in New Zealand is truly special.

But that’s just the beginning. Not only is the country home to some of the world’s finest courses, it also offers a serious amount of diverse choices. In fact, only Scotland is able to boast having more golf courses per capita. All of these options naturally mean that it’s pretty much guaranteed you’ll find a course that perfectly suits your budget and skill level.

At Golf Explorer, we have our own impressive selection of New Zealand golf holidays. You might just fancy fitting in a few relaxing rounds over a couple of days. Or maybe you like the sound of taking a week-long trip and enjoying as many games as you can. There’s no end to the packages available to make your dream trip become reality. We also offer a few truly unique options – our most spectacular being the Bay of Islands Luxury Heli-Golf Cruise. This package includes five rounds of golf and six nights’ accommodation, including a stay at sea on-board a cruise ship. But what really makes this package truly outstanding is the awe-inspiring helicopter ride that whisks you across the ocean from the helipad to the course.

With more than a little helping hand from nature, New Zealand’s golf resorts have been designed to leave every player with a desire to return again and again. When you combine drop-dead-gorgeous natural scenery with some of the world’s most beautifully designed courses, you end up with one of finest locations you can imagine to enjoy the great game. So whatever package you end up booking, New Zealand golfing holidays are always guaranteed to live long in the memory.

Ireland & The 153rd Open @ Royal Portrush

7 – 22 July 2025

Welcome to this special Irish Golf Tour that takes in some of Ireland’s finest, including Royal County Down and two days exclusive hospitality at The 153rd Open @ Royal Portrush.

The team at PaR nz Golfing Holidays are ‘Open nuts’ having been to 7 Opens including the 150th @ St Andrews.  We are New Zealand’s only R&A Authorised Provider of Hospitality at the Open, a position we are proud to hold.

When the Irish host a party – they do it in style and like no other. We expect a huge fanfare again in 2025, like they did in 2019.

On our way to Royal Portrush in 2025 we  play golf at Dublin’s The Island, Killeen Castle and, an option to play The European, Royal County Down, #1 in Great Britain and Ireland (#3 in the world!) before heading to Rosapenna, to play St Patricks Links and Old Tom Morris.

In County Donegal, in the Bay of Sheephaven, the Casey family offer some delightful resort accommodation and three Rosapenna links challenges.  We have booked to play Old Thomas Morris, designed by the man himself, and newly opened and world acclaimed St Patrick’s Links.    St Patrick’s Links was designed by Tom Doak.

For the PaR nz Group, our planned two days at The 153rd Open will be special with full, all-day hospitality in the Engravers Pavillion.  The R&A  promote their Engravers Packages with precision and in the finest detail.  Having now experienced this level of hospitality several times, we agree!  We are located on the fairway of Royal Portrush’s 1st hole, enjoying on-course views of the action as the world’s best start their round. Our Engravers Pavillion location allows  excellent access to get out amongst the crowd and walk the course or nip across to the Merchandise Pavillion.

The PaR nz hospitality in the Engravers Pavilion is extensive!

"It was bloody terrifying" - Mike Hendry details overcoming deadly disease to compete in The Open Championship 2024

M ike Hendry of New Zealand has been granted a medical exemption for the upcoming Open Championship 2024. The fourth PGA Tour Major will be played at Royal Troon from July 18 to 21, 2024.

Mike Hendry qualified for the 2023 Open Championship last year after finishing as a runner-up at the World City Championship in Hong Kong. However, he couldn't participate in the tournament at Royal Liverpool as he was diagnosed with leukemia last year.

In an interview with iNews, Hendry talked about the first signs of leukemia, he said (via iNews):

"I was playing well at the time. However, I started feeling run down out of nowhere but I just put it down to playing a lot. It felt like I had a cold. Sneezing, coughing and the like. But I got progressively worse. I had no energy. I was either in bed or on a couch. I was sleeping about 18 hours a day which is not like me."

Mike Hendry said that a doctor sent him to a local hospital, from where he was rushed to Auckland for chemotherapy by the same evening where he stayed for six and a half weeks. Hendry further said (via iNews):

"It was bloody terrifying. I was aware of what leukemia was. I was thinking, 'I'm really sick here and I might not live'. It was April 11th. I will never forget that day. I was in this state of not knowing what was really going on. I was in shock. It was all a bit of a blur."

Mike Hendry further said that his illness was rough but he decided to show resilience to his two daughters, Maddison and Harper. He further said that getting an email from the Open motivated him to get better.

Since returning to play after his treatment, Mike Hendry finished fourth in his fifth event at the PGA Tour of Australasia. He has played the Open Championship in 2017 and 2018, and failed to make the cut on both occasions.

A look at Mike Hendry's best performances

New Zealand’s Ben Campbell snatched a surprise victory at the very end to win the US$2million International Series Morocco after a sensational finish in Morocco.

Campbell holed a 20-foot birdie putt on the par-five 18th to win on the first hole of a sudden-death play-off, having been three behind playing-partner John Catlin with two holes to play at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam.

Campbell shot a two-under-par 71, helped by an eagle on the par-four 17th and a birdie on 18 in normal time, to tie Catlin, in with a 72, on 15-under.

The Kiwi takes home US$360,000 ($586,071) for the win.

American Caleb Surratt (71) and Eugenio Chacarra (73) from Spain, tied for third, three behind the top two.

Campbell started the final day one behind Catlin – the leader after each of the first three days and chasing win number three of the season – and looked to be just falling short.

He’d made two great up and downs for par on 15 and 16 before holing a 35-foot putt for eagle on the penultimate hole.

On the par-five 18th hole they both faced 10-foot birdie putts, with Campbell holing his first before his American opponent, normally so clinical, just missed his attempt.

“That was a great finish,” said Campbell.

“You know I didn’t have my best out there today and I just kept saying to Mike (his caddie), I’ve just got to find something and just stay patient. And yeah, like I went flag hunting on 16 and leaked it right, and hit a great bunker shot there. I said to Mike, if I can find a birdie eagle, you never know. So, I did that, and then to hole a putt like that in the play-off, it’s always good.”

It is his second success on the Asian Tour having won the Hong Kong Open, another event on The International Series calendar, at the end of last year after a similarly last-gasp finish when he nailed a 15-foot birdie to win by one.

The win is another reward for a player dogged by injury through his career.

He said: “I just think it’s been a tough run, and I didn’t give up then and I’m not going to give up now. I just kept saying to Mike just don’t give up out here. I’ve got to find something in my swing. I was feeling great on the range and lost it, sort of, on the course. But yeah, just said to him and I just sort of keep saying to myself, don’t give up.”

Campbell is now second on The International Series Rankings and third on the Asian Tour OOM.

Six inbound tours confirmed for 2024/25 international summer

Double-headers, a Test series against England, the return of the Rose Bowl, and everything on free-to-air TV: these are some of the highlights of another exciting 2024-25 home international summer of cricket in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Full Schedule

The programme starts with the BLACKCAPS’ much-anticipated three match Test series against England before Christmas, ends with the WHITE FERNS hosting Australia’s T20I side in late March, and in between includes visits from the Australia women’s ODI team, Sri Lanka men and women, and the Pakistan men’s side - potentially 41 days of international cricket in eight different cities, all of which will be broadcast free-to-air and live on TVNZ 1, TVNZ DUKE and TVNZ+.

The BLACKCAPS will fly to Pakistan in February for a tri-series against the hosts and South Africa before starting their ICC Champions Trophy campaign, ahead of returning home for five T20Is and three ODIs against Pakistan in March.

Demand for tickets for the Test matches against England at Christchurch, Wellington and Hamilton, respectively, has been strong, with NZC opting to announce venues for this specific series back in April to assist overseas fans making travel arrangements.

This increased interest in international cricket flows off the back of last season’s strong attendances, when ticket allocation for seven of the eight pre-sold days to the Australia Test series was exhausted, four out of five Pakistan T20Is were sold out, and the Australian men’s T20 series also drew big crowds.

With several short-form games being played around the country’s holiday hot-spots in the New Year’s period, including Mt Maunganui and Nelson, and a Friday night T20I double header at Eden Park in March, interest is expected to remain high.

The WHITE FERNS will play a three-match Rose Bowl ODI series against Australia at the Cello Basin Reserve in the week before Christmas, and will later host a multi-format tour by Sri Lanka in March, immediately ahead of a three-game T20Is series against the No.1 ranked Australians.

Their last five T20Is will be played as double-headers alongside BLACKCAPS-Pakistan T20Is.

Tickets for all home internationals will go on sale in September and fans are encouraged to get in quickly to avoid disappointment, especially in terms of the three Tests.

Joining NZC’s Cricket Nation members’ club will allow subscribers to purchase tickets in a pre-sale window before they’re opened up for public consumption.

NZC’s GM of Marketing and Communications, Stacey Geraghty, said if the trend from last summer continues, fans might need to change their last-minute purchasing routine and buy tickets early.

“We saw some significant changes in the way people consumed international cricket last year,” said Ms Geraghty.

“Not only were the Tests and the bigger white ball fixtures selling out, but we were receiving more engagement from younger fans, those in the 16-34 age bracket.

“There was a buzz we hadn’t felt for a while and we’re feeling it again as we approach the 2024-25 summer. The extra exposure we’re receiving from having cricket broadcast live and free-to-air is making a genuine difference on the ground.”

The BLACKCAPS have a full schedule of offshore cricket in their immediate future, including six Tests and a six-match, white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, before returning home for the Test series against England.

The WHITE FERNS also continue their busy winter schedule, with a three-game T20I series in Australia in mid-September, followed by the ICC T20 World Cup in Bangladesh (September-October) and a multi-format tour of India in the back half of October.
