WHY RIVER TO RIDGE

Most of us live pretty busy lives. Trying to organise an awesome weekend of riding can be time consuming. Every rider knows the frustration of organising a riding trip. It starts out with 20 mates then ends up with 5, its then up to you to reorganise accommodation, dinner bookings etc. When you book with River to Ridge you can leave it all up to us. With the click of a button you're done. Our tour guides are local to Bright and surrounds and have spent countless hours planning the best routes to jam pack the high country’s greatest hits into one ride. Our tasty mid ride lunches will keep you fueled for the days adventure. We eat well, dinner is always from a quality establishment and of a substantial size. We stay in great locations as we understand to enjoy the following day a good night's rest is key.

Our tour guides are always willing to help and are prepared for emergencies. We are advanced first aid trained, carry a PLB and first aid equipment. We are all capable riders and are more than happy to offer some coaching.

Our support vehicle is nearby at all times. Equipped with fuel, tools, spare parts and first aid. If bike or body is too damaged to continue we can pick you up. We offer tyre repair support and basic mechanical support.

For an unforgettable weekend all you need to do is turn up, we’ve got the rest covered.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US

Big thanks to Dave, Phil & the big JJ. I've just done a 3 day High Country dirt bike tour and got the best experience I could have asked for. Met some great people, ate great food (cooked personally by Dave & at a couple of great pubs) and rode tracks that you'll only find with local knowledge. I strongly recommend the tour to anyone who's after a hassle free, well organised multi day ride to get away from the day to day grind. I will definitely be back.

— Lachlan T / Oct 2023

Have ridden with Dave and his crew in the High Country and Little Desert, both times are up there with some of the best times I've spent on a bike.

— Dan F. / May 2023

Dave and his crew always put on an awesome weekend. The local knowledge of the area, awesome food, vehicle support and all round good times are well worth it. Cheers

— Alex S / May 2023

Dave organised a cracking 2 Day ride including a night at the Dargo Pub. Lunch stops with a BBQ and camp-fire were a treat. Dave and Paul looked after us very average riders and ensured we had a great time and were safe. Thanks so much, highly recommend River To Ridge

— Aaron G. / March 2023

Dave and the crew put on an awesome tour through the prime conditions through Little Desert last weekend. Great route, terrain, locations and the best food you could possibly eat whilst out riding/ camping! Thanks Dave

— Bryce W. / May 2023

Thanks for an awesome weekend in the victorian high country Dave, had an absolute ball on the bike. 161ks on the first day with 24 river crossings in 8ks and hills that seemed to never end. The hospitality and organisation from the smoked beef and salad sandwiches for Saturday's lunch and the buffalo wings and skewers on the sunday. Had a great night at Dargo pub on Saturday night with all the crew. A massive thanks to Marc, Phil and Simon for looking after us as well, the knowledge and help from the crew was a massive bonus and big help personally. The whole adventure experience was a cracka. Looking forward to seeing you guys again. 🍻

— Craig B. / March 2022

River To Ridge Tours, thanks for one of the best rides I've been on. Blown away by how well you guys run a tour. Best food, best tracks and best 3 days of riding.

— Patrick T / Feb 2023

Went on a 2 day ride with Dave last weekend! From Wandiligong to Dargo and back. Had a great time, was a challenging ride which was also great. Thanks also to his crew. Dave, Heath and Phil, great bunch of blokes.

— Ronald R / Feb 2023

Cracker weekend, cheers to Dave for organising a top ride and John and Phil sweep riding and backup vehicle. Thrills and spills all weekend and a top bunch of blokes. Would recommend for anyone thinking a big ride with all the hard work sorted

— Jesse S. / July 2022

Hey mate thanks for an absolute amazing tour ride it could not have got better from awesome view’s to the great food, bunch of blokes and the sick as ride I could not be happier thanks to River to Ridge Adventure Tours.

— Brendan E. / March 2022

I did a 2 day tour on the weekend. I would recommend booking in, had a blast really good people, happy to teach you something and give out pointers along the way.

— Wayne E. / March 2022

Just Awesome! Thank you & your crew so much. 👌

— Wayne S. / March 2022

Had one hell of a time with River To Ridge Adventure Tours on the weekend doing one of their 2 day rides through the high country. A big thankyou to the organiser David, the very helpful sweep rider John and the super supportive one man support crew Phil. Well organised ride, great trails, gnarly singles, long sweeping hill climbs and snow covered tracks to top it off. David made it an excellent adventure for all, accommodated to all skill levels and didn't hesitate to provide some expert tips when needed. We are already organising the next trip with this great bunch of blokes.

— Luke H. / July 2022

Did a day tour early feb 2022 . Had an absolute ball all day. Variety of Terrain covered from open fire trails to single trail hill climbs multiple creek crossing. Amazing landscape. Best buffalo wings ever personally cooked by the tour host and operator. Can't wait to have the time to return and do the two day tour with them. Highly recommend anyone with any skill level to book a tour with River to Ridge Adventure Tours either adventure bike or enduro bike 5 stars for sure

— Jason F. / March 2022

Great tour guides, food and tracks through some of the best of the High Country

— Nick H. / April 2022

Great food, great riding, excellent destinations and tour guides were great hosts !!!

— Ash W. / April 2022

We had an absolutely fantastic ride with Dave, doing the 2 day tour. The trails were unreal and the views were just freaking fantastic. The ride itself took into account all abilities, with a few A and B routes if needed for the riders not keen to tackle the harder stuff. So we all had something to keep us entertained.

The accommodation and food were great, the ride was well organised and everything was accounted for which was unreal.

We've done other guided rides around the country and honestly this was right up there with the best. In fact it might even replaceour other "regular" annual group ride we do. See you again in November Dave.

— Joey E. / July 2022

Dave and his team are amazing tour operators. Great guides, very knowledgeable and most importantly kept us all safe while we were having the best time. Great terrain, some great laughs and awesome food and hospitality. We'll be back.

The best roads for motorbike tours in Victoria

A person on a motorbike riding along the Great Ocean Road

Nicola Dowse

Posted April 06, 2022

Hit the road on two wheels and explore any one of these picturesque and magnificent motorcycle routes.

Riding a motorbike is more than a two-wheeled Sunday drive. It means going on an adventure where you’re part of the landscape you’re cruising through, feeling the wind rush past you, and experiencing the world to its fullest.

Here in Victoria, we’re fortunate to have several roads ideal for a grand two-wheeled tour. These routes showcase the beauty and diversity of the state, from rugged mountain ranges to lush, towering forests.

The best roads to ride a motorbike on in Victoria

Great ocean road .

The Great Ocean Road is world-renowned for good reason. This 240-km stretch of road twists through cool-climate rainforest and along sheer cliff faces that directly overlook the Bass Strait and the Great Australian Bight.

As the Antipodean answer to California’s Big Sur, the Great Ocean Road is one of Australia’s top tourist drives, and a popular choice among motorcyclists (and cyclists alike).

Connecting Torquay and Allansford, there are plenty of attractions (the biggest being the Twelve Apostles) as well townships providing dining and accommodation options.

Stay alert while enjoying your ride as there are multiple blind corners and rockfalls can occur due to the rugged coastline. Koalas have also been known to stop traffic from time to time when they decide to cross the road.

Great Alpine Road

If you prefer the mountains to the sea, Victoria’s Great Alpine Road is another popular ride for motorcyclists.

The Great Alpine Road stretches from Wangaratta to Bairnsdale, crossing through the Victorian Alps and towns like Bright, Myrtleford and Omeo. At more than 300km, it’s longer than the Great Ocean Road and features some spectacular vistas and alpine views.

You could conquer the road in a day, but if you have the time, it’s well worth extending your trip and exploring the Alpine National Park, wineries around Bright, or the Gippsland lakes at the eastern end of the journey.

As the name suggests, this road can get snow in the winter and all vehicles travelling between Harrietville and Omeo during the snow season must use diamond-pattern tyre chains. It’s also Australia’s highest sealed, year-round accessible road.

A series of large silos in Sea Lake with a colourful mural of a girl on a swing on them

These painted silos in Sea Lake form part of Victoria's Silo Art Trail. Image:  Visit Victoria.

Silo Art Trail

Did you know that Victoria is home to Australia’s largest outdoor art gallery? The Silo Art Trail stretches over 200km and features agricultural and industrial silos that have been turned into monumental artworks by some of the country’s leading street artists like Rone, Adnate and Kitt Bennett.

The entire trail is perfect for a road trip, especially one conducted via motorbike. If travelling north from Melbourne, the first stop is generally Rupanyup, and the last stop Patchewollock. It’s up to you whether you want to see all the silos in the region, or take the most direct route and skip a few artworks.

Give yourself a few days to enjoy the route as well as the country hospitality in the small towns. Sea Lake is worth a detour to see Lake Tyrrell (it’s a huge salt lake that sometimes turns pink).

The Black Spur

The Black Spur is one of the most picturesque motorbike rides close to Melbourne. Located on the eastern outskirts of the city, the Black Spur is a drive featuring smooth bends weaving between ferns and towering mountain ash trees (the tallest flowering plant in the world).

Despite being only 70km from the Melbourne CBD, the Black Spur can feel like a world away and is a great short ride for motorcyclists at just under 30km. That leaves more time for enjoying nearby attractions in nearby Healesville or extending your ride through to Yarra Ranges National Park.

The conditions can get a little hairy, with the road commonly damp and occasionally presenting obstacles like fallen branches. Dress warm, waterproof, and safely.

A road surrounded in bush, with Mount Abrupt in the near distance

The view from Grampians Road, with Mount Abrupt in the background. Image: Visit Victoria.

The Grampians

Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park is one of Victoria’s most beautiful landscapes. It’s also expansive and filled with plenty of bends to test your motorcycle skills.

If want the main route, head straight up from Dunkeld to Halls Gap. This journey is fairly straight and cruisy, but it takes you past the dramatic Mount Abrupt (Mud-Dadjug) as well as Lake Bellfield.

For a more challenging ride, try taking Mt Victory Road from Halls Gap through to Wartook. You can loop back via Beehive Falls and Mt Zero Road, but been warned most of Mt Zero Road (as well as parts of Roses Gap Road) is unsealed.

Protect your motorbike before heading out. Find out more about motorcycle insurance →

The trips starts at ‘The Smoke That Thunders’ – the mighty Victoria Falls. From Zimbabwe, we venture onto the lesser travel gravel roads across Botswana and into ‘The Land of the Brave’, crossing the entire length of Namibia and down the Western regions of South Africa to finish in the Mother City: Cape Town.

You’ll ride some of the best gravel routes in the world, camp in safari tents under the most incredible star filled skies, witness LOTS of big game from the seat of your motorcycle, stay in some seriously cool & unique accommodation and enjoy many epic feasts. You’ll ride over mountain passes and along one of the World’s most beautiful coastal roads.

Our Cape Town – Victoria Falls route is already epic. This return route takes things to the next level and leaves no stone unturned, venturing onto the gravel routes for that added layer of adventure. For experienced riders looking for serious adventure. This is the one.

Tour Itinerary Click to expand

Day 1: arrive at victoria falls - welcome to zimbabwe click to expand.

Welcome to Zimbabwe!

You will fly into Victoria Falls Airport (VFA) where you will be met by your driver and transported on the short journey to your accommodation for the night. If you’ve never been to Southern Africa, oh boy, are you in for a treat! In fact, even if you have been here before, you’re still in for a treat!

In the afternoon we’ll meet at the bar to hold the welcome talk, safety briefing, introduce you to the support team and your bikes. Once we’re all sorted there, we will get transferred to the boat deck in time for sundowners on the river followed by a delicious welcome dinner on a heli-pad (what, you’ve never gone for dinner on a heli-pad before?) which overlooks the Victoria Falls Bridge. Not a bad way to spend your first evening in Zim!

Please note that the contract for the motorcycle rental is between you and the motorcycle rental company, not Ride Expeditions. The motorcycles have an insurance excess of approx £1000 – £1800 (depending on the model) and the rental company will require this amount to either be paid as a deposit or held on your card as a security against damage/loss. Please contact us if you require any further information.

  • Accommodation: Comfortable lodge with a pool.
  • Included Meals: Dinner.

Day 2: Victoria Falls - The Smoke That Thunders Click to expand

Well, there’s just no way we can embark on a motorcycle tour titled ‘Victoria Falls to Cape Town’ without visiting the beast itself!

After a leisurely breakfast, we’ll venture over to the falls… This place will blow your mind! It’s one of those places that just boggles the mind.

After the falls, the day is yours to spend at your leisure. There are so many things you can do here… Take a helicopter trip over the falls, go canoeing, white water rafting, bungee jump, boat trips… One activity we can strongly recommend is the ‘ Through the Eye of an Elephant ‘ experience – it’s a great and responsible way to get up close & personal with the massive beasts!

  • Included Meals: Breakfast.

Day 3: Victoria Falls - Botswana - Elephant Sands 265km Click to expand

With Victoria Falls ticked off the bucket list, we can now get down to the riding!

It’s about 100kms to get to the Pandamatenga Border Post. A little bit of gravel in the morning and then an interesting road that will more than likely have some wild game wandering near the roads.

Then it’s a fresh stamp in the passport and into Botswana! While we wouldn’t go as far to say the Zimbabwe border post is a well-oiled machine, there is at least some oil present… When we get to the Botswana side the road tax system can sometimes be a slow and painful process. While we take care of this, you will be free to skip off and enjoy a nice picnic lunch we prepared earlier.

On the other side we have a lovely stretch of 150km on beautiful black top tar. It’d be a good idea to go to the bathroom back at the border, as this section of road is frequented by lions, elephants and giraffe. Keep your eyes peeled and you may just see Mufassa chilling under a tree right next to the road.

Tonight we’re camping (is that really what you want to read right after we mention lions?!)… but not just any camp: Elephant Sands camp ‘where elephants rule’. This place is simply incredible! There are free roaming elephants throughout the site and lodge, which we can all agree is pretty damn special.

In case you’re wondering, our tents are the big safari style tents and are on stilts, so you don’t have to worry about your head being stepped on by a 6 tonne beast in the middle of the night.

Tonight we’ll enjoy a roaring campfire with a braai (BBQ) for dinner.

  • Accommodation: Safari style tents (with ensuites) with a swimming a pool.
  • Included Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day 4: Elephant Sands - Nata 90km Click to expand

Suitably rested after a night spent sleeping among elephants, we’ll have a leisurely start and enjoy the incredible surroundings a bit longer.

After a mid morning breakfast we’ll bid our farewells to the ellyfunks and jump back on the bikes. If yesterday was elephant themed, today is all about flamingos.

Our aim today is to get to Makgadikgadi Pans & a little village called Nata. As we leave the camp we must battle through some proper sand riding for 20km to get back to ‘lion road’. Then it’s an easy ride on the tarmac through to Nata.

It’s a short distance today but this afternoons destination is just spectacular! We’ll arrive at the accommodation early afternoon, have a quick drink & freshen up and hop back on the bikes for another 20km ride to Nata Bird Sanctuary at Makgadikgadi Pans. This is the spot where the big flamingo sightings happen (as in there is a vast number of them – the birds themselves aren’t unusually large). We will bring packed lunches with us for a nice picnic and spend a couple of hours enjoying the sights.

Day 5: Nata - Okavango Delta - Maun 385km Click to expand

Today we head for Maun on the paved roads. There’s no gravel routes today, but you’ll still need to stay alert as there will be plenty of wild animals and rough sections of road. When it comes to lunch time, we’ll select our favourite big tree, check for lions and settle down for another al fresco picnic.

This afternoon we’ll stop off at the local airport and board a small plane to take a scenic flight over the largest inland delta in the world – the Okavango Delta! The vast flood plaines stretch as far as the eye can see, the wetland landscape seemingly woven together with marshes, lagoons, islands and streams. Hippos, crocs and buffalo occupy the waters while impala, zebra, wildebeest and elephants roam the tracks that criss-cross the higher grounds. There is simply no better way to appreciate the vastness of this stunning region than by witnessing it from the air!

Back on the ground, sticking with our apparently ‘animal themed’ tour, tonight we will be staying at a Safari lodge just before town… We’re here for two nights, so kick the boots and get comfy! You can get a massage here too… Although we’d suggest you may appreciate it more after tomorrow’s ride.

  • Accommodation: Comfortable lodge with a swimming pool.

Day 6: Maun Safari Ride Out 200km Click to expand

Today is our crazy ‘bike safari day’ and it is an absolute smasher!

After a hearty breakfast we’ll hop on the bikes for a 20km stretch of tarmac. We then hit a bit of gravel before reaching the ‘animal control gate’. This is where we ensure all our affairs are in order as we will be heading into the wilderness of Botswana.

Through the gate we will encounter some really sandy and seriously challenging sections – but it will be well worth it! There are also some little villages along the way, with people living within the conservancy and animals roaming freely through the villages.

We’ll certainly see buffalos, elephants, zebras and giraffes and, with a bit of luck, lions. There are wild animals everywhere and it’s just a spectacular, crazy day. Expedition leader Henk describes it as ‘the best day of anybody’s life on a motorcycle’. This is coming from the man who got trapped in this very game reserve between a flooded road and a herd of elephants!

The riding is not seriously challenging all of the time though. There are some tricky parts here and there but struggling a little on your bike through a sandy patch with an elephant looking on is quite an experience! To make it clear there are 0 fences here and no barriers between you and said elephant. (Apropos of nothing, please don’t forget to sign our liability waivers before ride!). So you know we’re serious, we’re hiring an armed ranger to come along in our support vehicle for this day… While the animals should not be a threat if we keep a sensible distance, we certainly need to take precautions – it’s no joke out here.

Once we’ve stopped off in a local village for a picnic lunch (safety in numbers and all that) it will then be time to turn our faithful steeds around and head back towards the Safari Lodge, dodging giraffes and zebras in the road along the way.

Back at the accommodation, the beer at the riverside bar will never have tasted so good!

Day 7: Maun - Tsumkwe 410km Click to expand

Today we shall enjoy our last day in Botswana and really take in the sights, the numerous little villages and everything else we shall be passing.

We’ll depart early, starting with a short section of gravel out to the tarmac. This next section of road is just beautiful – on one side you’ve got the proper African bushveld and on the other you have got the tailing off of the Makgadikgadi pans.

We then turn North in the direction of Angola and for the next 100kms we have lots of potholes to contend with. With them comes traffic dodging – often driving on the wrong side of the road – so we definitely need to keep the speed down here. Lots of farm animals as well of course! This is Africa don’t forget but the scenery is however spectacular.

Once we reach Nokaneng it is again time to ‘pick a tree’ and we will stop just outside the small town for lunch. We’ve got to keep our strength up as the next stretch on gravel is a little challenging, with sections of potholes and rough bits. There’s lots of game in this section and we’ll see elephants and possibly lions. Again there are no fences so we must stay alert!

It’s about 130kms to get to the Namibian border, which will probably be the most remote border crossing you will ever see!

Welcome to Namibia! For the final stretch of riding, we will ride through Bushman area! Steeped in history, it’s certainly an interesting place.

motorcycle tours victoria

Day 8: Tsumkwe - Waterberg Plateau 440km Click to expand

Today we are on gravel for the entire day and are heading towards Waterberg Plateau National Park.

The scenery will be vastly different to what we have experienced in Botswana. No more dense bushveld and trees. While it’s a big gravel road, we’re now in the heart of the Kalahari desert, so the conditions will get a little rough and sandy in places. Wild game roams freely, only this will now be the beautiful eland, springbok and oryx.

Our accommodation for the day is a lovely little lodge, where relatively tame mongooses (not ‘mongeese’) and possibly warthogs patrol the site, waiting for the opportunity to steal your food. It is a really nice place to get up early the next morning and just enjoy the birds and the wildlife.

motorcycle tours victoria

Day 9: Waterberg Plateau - Windhoek 300km Click to expand

Today we have a mixture of a little bit of gravel and a little bit of tar. It’s a stunning day with a little bit of highway in the morning and some patches of gravel throughout.

We’ll ride out to the Wilhelmstal, a little roadside farm stall which is super popular for its biltong and droëwors. We’ll stop here for lunch before the final 170km to reach our evening’s accommodation.

The road almost all the way into Windhoek is a super remote, stunning little jeep track that feels just like a little farm road – it’s awesome! Then it’s a quick hop onto a big gravel road for the final 20km.

Our lodge for the day is just stunning and we’ll arrive in good time to enjoy a game drive and sundowners.

motorcycle tours victoria

Day 10: Windhoek - Swakopmund 330km Click to expand

Today begins with a thrilling mountain pass through the Khomas Highlands, descending into the Namib desert. The immense landscape of endless distant hills and fleeting wildlife will undoubtedly impress. Before we reach Swakopmund we will take a fun little detour towards Goanikontes. This route runs along the river into Swakopmund and is a little bit technical and sandy, so it’s an exhilarating end to a great day of riding!

We’ll aim to arrive early in the afternoon so that you have some free time as here you’ll have the option of boat rides, quad rides and lots of other things to do in and around town.

The evening is yours to spend at your leisure, although we strongly recommend we all head for sunset drinks on the sand dunes overlooking the ocean before heading back to have a restaurant dinner at the German brewhouse. It’s a really cool place with a nice vibe and good beers.

  • Accommodation: Hotel.
  • Included Meals: Breakfast, lunch.

motorcycle tours victoria

Day 11: Swakopmund - Namib Desert 390km Click to expand

Today we are heading out of Swakopmund and making our way into the Namib Desert! We’ve got about 390kms to do almost all of it on really nice gravel roads with a few patches of sand and tar and some exciting bits in between.

We’ll grab an early breakfast, get on the bikes and make our way into the Namib-Naukluft National Park. Now this is proper desert, big open sandy patches, alongside sand dunes and some incredible views.

Then we’ll ride over the Kuiseb Pass which is just stunning and we’ll stop at the top for a quick drink at a view point where you’ve got this beautiful, expansive, flat view in front of Walvis Bay.

On to Solitaire, we’ll stop at a quirky petrol station for a decent coffee and some delicious apple pie. We then take a slight detour on another gravel mountain pass, the ‘Spreetshoogte Pass’. It’s a really nice, sweeping road with lots of flowing turns through the valley and is well worth the extra few kms ride just for the viewpoint at the top.

Back down the mountain, with big fat smiles on our faces, we head for our accommodation nearby Sossusvlei. We’re in a truly spectacular spot tonight; the scenery is amazing, there’s lots of wildlife and we’ll set up a nice campfire to enjoy the sunset by. We love it out here, it’s truly awesome!

  • Accommodation: Safari style tents / chalets.

motorcycle tours victoria

Day 12: Namib Desert - Sossusvlei - Betta 150km Click to expand

Sossusvlei – the literal translation of which is ‘Dead End Marsh’ – is a remote salt pan surrounded by towering red sand dunes. Sossusvlei is home to some of the world’s tallest sand dunes, where almost no rain falls and blackened camel thorn trees are the only sign that water does occasionally flow here. It’s a truly special place with an almost eery, alien landscape feel to it.

We’ll hop in a shuttle bus (we’re unfortunately not allowed to ride bikes within the vlei) and venture into the park where we’ll spend about an hour getting some incredible photos and just generally having a play in the dunes.

We will then make our way back for lunch before heading towards our accommodation for the night at Betta Camp. We’ve got about 150km to go from here on mostly good gravel roads with a couple of corrugated sections and definitely some tricky sandy patches, but it’s well worth it for the riding and scenery.

Tonight’s accommodation is a very remote and quirky place, right out in the sticks. We’ll fire up the braai and enjoy an evening under the star filled sky in this arid wilderness.

  • Accommodation: Comfortable chalets.

motorcycle tours victoria

Day 13: Betta - Aus 450km Click to expand

We’ll have a smasher of a day today and we head back towards the coast.. It’s about 450kms, 250 odd will be really fast tar, the rest of which will be on gravel.

The scenery is just stunning out there this morning. On the left side of the road is this beautiful flowy mountain range and there’ll be red dunes scattered across the landscape – it’s simply beautiful. We’ll more than likely witness oryx, zebra, ostrich, springbok and maybe the odd kudu if we get lucky.

The morning section of this day is just super fun riding – possibly one of the nicest little sections in the whole southern part of Namibia. We’re then onto a slightly better condition road, almost all the way to our destination for the night: Aus.

Depending on our arrival time, we will aim to head straight through to Luderitz. Here we can grab a nice fishy lunch overlooking the industrial harbour before making our way back to our accommodation in Aus. It’s a quick ride back but it will be windy with a bit of sandblasting as we leave the coast.

For those of you that want to explore more after lunch there’s an abandoned old mining town we can swing by, with buildings being swallowed up with sand.

The restaurant at the lodge is on the top floor and has an amazing view, so we’ll be able to watch a stunning sunset from there. On a totally unrelated note, there’s an old car filled with bullet holes from a diamond heist gone wrong which is pretty interesting to look at!

  • Accommodation: Comfortable chalets with a swimming pool.
  • Included Meals: Breakfast, dinner.
  • N.B. If some of you are tired from a tough morning’s ride and want to avoid the exfoliating ride back from Luderitz, you have the option to cut the day short and stay at the accommodation, grabbing lunch there rather than riding on to Luderitz.

motorcycle tours victoria

Day 14: Aus - Fish River Canyon - Orange River 395km Click to expand

Today we’re heading to the Fish River Canyon and the Orange River. It’s easy riding today, most of which is on the tarmac.

Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world and we’ll stop at a lovely viewpoint to take in the breathtaking scenery. 27km wide in places and 550m deep, it’s one of those views that makes you feel like a dot on the landscape. Just awesome.

We finish the day at a beautiful lodge sat on the banks of the Orange River, with South Africa looking at us from the other side. It’s a wonderful place to spend your final evening in Namibia!

motorcycle tours victoria

Day 15: Orange River - South Africa - Vanrhynsdorp 435km Click to expand

Get your passports at the ready, for today we reach South Africa! It’s an awesome day on tar today and we start the day with a quick blip down the highway to the border post. It’s generally a pretty smooth process to leave Namibia, so we’ll be back back up to full cruising speed in South Africa in time.

It’s really easy riding on big smooth roads as we cruise down the N7, taking in the pleasant South Africa scenery as we go.

We’re staying at a lovely guest farm this evening. They’ve got some lekker (South African for ‘awesome’) little cabins and it is a really nice place to relax for an evening.

  • Accommodation: Guest farm.

motorcycle tours victoria

Day 16: Vanrhynsdorp - Cederberg 225kms Click to expand

Once we’re fed and watered we’ll jump onto the bikes leaving Vanrhynsdorp behind as we head off to the home of leopards and rooibos tea: The Cederberg. We’ll stop off en route and stop off in Clanwillian as there’s a lady that runs a nice Rooibos Teahouse where we’ll have the chance to learn about the history of tea manufacturing in the area.

The ride into the Cederberg is simply stunning and you’ll quickly start to feel that you’re in no man’s land. There are beautiful sandstone formations lining the gravel route and to really send you back in time, we’ll stop by to take a look at the local caveman paintings! We pass through Wupperthal – a small town frozen in time – and visit a waterfall.

It’s great day on all fronts: great scenery, great riding and great accommodation for the evening.

Tonight we’ll stay in a beautiful lodge out in the middle of nowhere. One of our team will man the braai and cook up a massive feast, South African style while you guys can relax with a cold beer and soak up the peaceful surrounds!

We’ll have seen some incredibly starry skies on our travels, but we feel there’s something really special about the star filled skies of the Cederberg. It’s our last night out in the wilderness, so it’ll surely be quite a special evening.

  • Accommodation: Comfortable lodge.

Day 17: Cederberg - Cape Town 370km Click to expand

Our last riding day! In true Ride Expeditions style, we’ve got quite a banger of a day lined up for you. We’ll head down to the main lodge for a fry-up overlooking the lake before putting on our helmets one last time for the final leg of the journey.

We head off along the gravel road back to civilisation (depending on the group, if you are keen for more gravel we can take a little detour to add about 20km extra of the rough stuff for you). We’ll hit Ceres and then ride over the mountain at Du Toitskloof Pass. We’ve got stunning road on our way into Stellenbosch before heading towards the coastal roads and Simon’s Town. Here we’ll stop for a picnic lunch with the local penguin colony at Boulders Beach, before climbing into the hills for an exhilarating ride past Silvermine Nature Reserve.

More stunning riding from hereon out as we ride along the beautiful coastal roads around the Cape Peninsula and of course, the world famous Chapman’s Peak Drive. We then have the final stretch past Camps Bay as we head to our final destination.

Our hotel is conveniently located close to the V&A waterfront where we will head for celebratory drinks and a farewell dinner. Cape Town is a wonderfully vibrant city and the perfect place to end your South African motorcycle adventure.

  • Accommodation: Oceanfront hotel.

We’ll do our best to work around any specific requirements, but if you are going to go into anaphylactic shock if a peanut looks at you, please let us know and have a fully loaded epi-pen somewhere readily accessible…

Drop us an email and we can discuss any concerns you may have.

Do I need a visa? Click to expand

This depends where you are from originally, but visitors from the UK, USA and Australia can enter the country for up to 90 days without any visa or additional costs (you will need a proof of return flight and 2 blank pages in your passport. Please double check this before travelling just in case they’ve recently changed their minds!)

Follow this link for South African entry requirements. This link to the UK foreign office website – if you are not a UK resident, please search for the equivalent info from your home country’s foreign office.

Visa costs, if applicable, are not included in the tour price.

How do I book? Click to expand

To secure your place we simply need a 20% non-refundable deposit (subject to a minimum of £500). The remainder does not need to be paid until 60 days prior to the tour start date.

How much spending money will I need? Click to expand

As this is a largely inclusive tour, you won’t need too much spending money, however it’s quite a long ride so you will want a bit. You will only need money for the items not listed as inclusions, which is mainly just alcohol and any other personal spending. Unless you go mad in the bars, around £150-200 should be adequate.

Is Ride Expeditions insured? Click to expand

Yes. Here at Ride Expeditions, we take the necessary precautions to ensure that we protect both ourselves and you as the customer, with insurances covering financial failure, public liability, professional indemnity and employers liability (you will need your own travel insurance).

To obtain this insurance we must meet strict safety standards and local regulations. We must also carry out thorough risk assessments about all aspects of a tour before tyres can hit tarmac (…or dirt!).

Is my money safe? Click to expand

Yes. All passengers booking with Ride Expeditions Ltd are fully insured for the initial deposit, and subsequently the balance of monies paid as detailed in your booking confirmation form. The policy also includes repatriation if required, arising from the cancellation or curtailment of your travel arrangements due to the insolvency of Ride Expeditions Ltd. This insurance has been arranged by Towergate Travel through Evolution Insurance.

Is this trip suitable for those with limited mobility? Click to expand

Not riding the motorcycle, no (although this will of course depend on the extent of your limited mobility). However, we may be able to accommodate you in our support vehicle. We advise you to give us a call and we can discuss.

What are the health / immunisation considerations? Click to expand

For the most accurate and up to date info, we advise you visit the ‘Travel Health Pro’ website .

Please also consult with your own doctor at home at least 8 weeks before your trip.

What documents / licenses do I need? Click to expand

You are required to carry your local driving licence, which must cover the size of bike you will be riding. This will also be a stipulation of any travel insurance company too.

You will also need an International Driving Permit (IDP). An IDP is basically an official, multi-language translation of your driving licence.

What is the Tyre Ware Notice? Click to expand

Your motorcycle will be provided with new (or nearly new) tyres, capable of lasting the duration of the tour (unless we otherwise indicate that we plan to replace your tyres during the tour). It is your responsibility to look after the tyres and not cause excessive wear. Should your tyre/s need replacing during the tour as a result of your riding, the cost of replacing the tyre/s will be for your account.

What is the average group size? Click to expand

Average group sizes are 8-9 riders and we limit the groups to 14 riders.

What is the cancellation policy? Click to expand

If you cancel your booking before departure, cancellation charges will be applied as follows:

  • 61 days or more before tour start date – retention of deposit
  • 42-60 days before tour start date – retention of 50% of tour price
  • 28-41 days before tour start date – retention of 70% of tour price
  • 0-27 days before tour start date – retention of 100% tour price

Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for further info regarding cancellations, changes and transferring your trip to a friend.

What is the official travel advice? Click to expand

For the most accurate and up to date info on travel advice, we advise you to visit the foreign office website.

Follow this link for the current travel advice from the UK foreign office. As we are a UK company, this is the official government advice we follow. If you are not a UK resident, we advise you search for the equivalent info from your own country’s foreign office, as travel advice may differ.

What riding experience is required? Click to expand

Ideally, we want confident and experienced riders on our motorcycle tours, so for this reason we want you to have at least two years active riding experience.

We will send a pre-booking form to gauge the level of your riding experience and help us determine whether or not this motorcycle tour is suitable for you.

Following on from this, as this tour is both on and off-road on adventure bikes, it is more than preferable if you have had a good amount of adventure riding experience before booking up. Should you have any doubts, give our tour leaders a call or email and we can talk through any queries you may have.

What will the weather be like? Click to expand

Hopefully warm and sunny for the whole tour, so be sure to pack the sunscreen and Ray Bans. Average temperatures during our preferred tour months will be 20-30°c. Occasionally we may experience cooler weather & the desert nights can also become quite chilly, so bring warm layers in case. Rain is unlikely, but it’s always a good idea to prepare for the worst!

What's the minimum number of riders required for this tour? Click to expand

The minimum required number for this trip to run is 6 riders. We reserve the right to cancel the tour if this number is not met and we will provide you with a minimum of 56 days notice. Please know that this is an absolute last resort for us and we will always do everything in our power to avoid this happening.

Which payment methods do you accept? Click to expand

We accept GBP payments by Visa, Mastercard & American Express and direct bank transfers. Please get in touch if you would rather pay in another currency – we’ll do our best to accommodate!

Remi Wolf Vibes With Victoria Justice in ‘Motorcycle’ Music Video

By Ethan Millman

Ethan Millman

Remi Wolf released her latest single “Motorcycle” on Friday, alongside an accompanying music video featuring cameos from singer/actress Victoria Justice and fellow Northern California artist Dora Jar.

“Motorcycle” is the fourth song Wolf is sharing ahead of her upcoming third album Big Ideas, following “Cinderella,” “Toro” and “Alone in Miami.” The track, is slow and vibey, featuring little more than Remi’s vocals, some drums and beach-y guitar lines. She made the track alongside Kenny Beats, Leon Michels, and the Dap-Kings. On the track, Wolf sings about the love of her motorcycle and the simple life she shares with a romantic partner.

Wolf spends much of the video around a house, hanging out by a pool alongside Justice and Jar, who are seen tanning, dancing and talking on an old landline.

Big Ideas comes out July 12. She’ll support the album with a 20-date headlining tour set to kick off in September in Santa Barbara and finishing in Los Angeles in October.
