Traveling is ubiquitous in our lives. From day to day work commutes to going on a trip or vacation with our family or friends, we are constantly traveling. And we thank God that traveling has also been made easy. We can turn to many modes of transportation to bring us to our desired destinations. However, traveling still remains a stressful activity. We worry about safety, the sudden change in weather, missed flights, or lost luggage. The list of what can go wrong while traveling is endless and daunting. How and what can we do to deal when such a situation arises? We can turn to our God and say a quick prayer for safe travel. 

Biblical characters like Noah ( Genesis 7:1-24 ), Abraham ( Genesis 12:1-20 , Genesis 13:1-18 ), and Moses ( Exodus 4:18-31 ) have also embarked on several epic journeys. They would have fervently prayed for a safe journey and blessings. Similarly, we should also pray each time we go on a trip. I personally believe that prayer for safe travel is a powerful thing to do before any trip. By praying, we are inviting God and trusting Him that He will get us to our destination, safe and sound. Here are some short prayers for travel that we can pray before traveling. 

1. A Short Prayer for Safe Travel

Here is a short prayer for safe travel that you can say right before your trip.

Lord, I know that You watch my coming and going. Today, I pray for You to watch over me as I travel. Keep me safe in Your loving arms. Let no harm come upon me during my trip and cover me under Your mighty wings. As I step out and start on my journey, I will choose to trust you and not give in to fear. Help me get to my destination and get home safely. Help me to experience Your greatness and love during this trip so that I may draw even closer to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen. 

Psalm 121:7-8 The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.

2. Prayer for Travel Blessings to Have A Safe Flight

As we go on our trip, let us also ask the Lord for His blessing and favor so that our journey may be smooth and peaceful. Here is a short prayer we can lift to the Lord before a flight.

3. Prayer for Road Trip

Here is a prayer for safe driving and traveling. Let us seek the Lord’s protection before we go on a road trip so He can protect us and keep us safe while we’re on the road.

Lord, today I entrust You for your safety as we go on this road trip. I pray for an alert mind so that I may drive safely. Please sustain my strength during the long trip and bless me with steady hands. Grant in me patience and courtesy to the other drivers on the road, just as how You grant them with patience as well. May this be a smooth journey and no accidents will occur. Bless us, oh Lord, with Your grace and favor that we would enjoy this road trip and witness the wonderful creation that You’ve created with Your hands. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

4. Prayer for Safety and Health Protection from Sickness During Travel

It is also good to pray for the Lord’s protection against any kind of sickness during travel to fully enjoy our trip.

Dear God, as we travel today, I pray that You bless us with Your protection against any kind of sickness during our trip. Bless us with Your mercy and grace that we may be kept in good health as we travel. May the people around us during this trip also be in good health. Protect us from any virus that can bring harm to our health. Give us wisdom to also exercise caution and good hygiene throughout this trip. May the foods that we consume throughout this trip be cleansed by You to provide us with the nutrition to protect our bodies, the holy temples of Yours.  All this I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

5. Safe Travel Prayers for Friends and Loved Ones 

We can also bless our friends and loved ones with a prayer for safe travel before they embark on a trip. Here is a prayer that we can lift for a loved one’s safe journey before they travel. 

Dear Lord, today I surrender my loved one into Your hands. I ask that You bless him/her with a safe trip and cover him/her with Your protection. Shine Your face on him/her Lord, so that no harm come upon him/her and shower them with Your grace as they go. I pray that they would experience Your presence and Your peace during this trip that no trouble or mishap would come upon them. Keep them in good health and give them wisdom and alert mind throughout their journey. May they get to their destination safe and sound. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

6. Prayer for Family Protection and Harmony During Trip

It’s always good for us to say a prayer before any family trips for God’s protection to be upon us and our loved ones. 

Heavenly Father, I lift up my family to You today as we travel. I pray for You to watch over us and keep us from harm. Guide us and guard us during our trip and keep us out of any unforeseen danger. Protect us from any kind of sickness as well while we are traveling. Let there be harmony among us and may love and peace reign throughout this trip. Help us exercise patience and forgiveness towards each other that there would be no squabbles among us during this journey. May our journey be smooth and peaceful, and may we get to our destination safely. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

8. Prayer for Someone Traveling Solo

Lord, I lift my friend to You today. Bless him/her with Your mercy and grace as he/she sets out on a trip. I pray that You would protect him/her from any harm and danger. May he/she would have a great time and that he/she take with him/her wonderful memories from this travel experience. Most importantly, I pray that he/she would find time to reconnect with You and gain valuable lessons as well. May this journey be a peaceful, fun, and relaxing time for him/her. Keep him/her safe until he/she reaches his/her destination. Guide him/her and give him/her wisdom and an alert mind, and let him/her not lose sight of You throughout this trip. 10. Prayer for Safe Voyage

As we embark on our trips, let us pray for a safe voyage and ask the Lord to guard you and no harm shall come to you.

Dear Lord, I thank you for the opportunity to travel and see the marvelous creation that You’ve so wonderfully created for us. As I embark on this voyage, I ask that You be with me every step of the way. God, You are King of Kings, the God of all gods. You calm the storms and quieten seas. Lord, take charge of every means of transportation that they are using to come to visit me. Your Plans, Not Mine Prayer Father God, thank you for enabling me to see this day. I have been looking forward to it, and it is finally here. Lord, there are so many things I have planned for this journey, I have taken all the necessary precautions, but you are the only one that establishes our steps. Whether it’s holiday travel or a busy workday, many people are traveling every day. By car, plane, train or subway, people venture out into the world to get to work, run errands, go on vacations or to visit their friends and loved ones.

Travel Anxiety

Traveling far from home can be a beautiful, eye-opening experience. Unfortunately, travel anxiety can make trips more stressful than enjoyable. The good news is that if you experience travel anxiety you are not alone , and you don’t have to stay trapped in an endless cycle of worry. There are techniques and tips to stay calm while traveling.

Helpful Travel Anxiety Tips:

1. exercise before you leave.

It’s no secret that exercise can be a powerful antidote to anxiety. This is because cardiovascular activity releases endorphins, which can reduce feelings of stress. Even a ten-minute walk before your leave for your journey can be enough to release these feel-good chemicals and ensure you start your trip on the right foot.

2. Plan Ahead

Lack of knowledge is a surefire way exacerbate travel stress. Plan ahead as much as possible to minimize in-the-moment panic. Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to get to the airport or bus station, and do research ahead of time to know what to expect about checking in and finding your gate. Knowing where you are going will eliminate unnecessary anxiety.

3. Pack Smart

Make sure you have everything you need to ensure smooth travels. For flying, an eye mask, calming essential oil and laptops might be helpful. For road trips, healthy snacks or an audio book might be just what you need to stay calm. Make a list and pack early to keep your journey worry free.

4. Practice Relaxation Techniques

When travel anxiety strikes, it can send your brain into overdrive. Relaxation exercises can be helpful to lower your heart rate and return your breathing to normal. Guideposts blogger Holly Lebowitz Rossi recommends a five-finger breathing exercise to help you calm down.

“Make a fist. As you inhale through your nose, slowly uncurl your thumb and index fingers,” Rossi writes. “As you exhale through your mouth, slowly open your middle, ring, and pinky fingers.”

The key is to exhale longer than you inhale, which will put you into a parasympathetic stat, where your muscles relax and your heart slows down.

5. Keep Your Mind Busy

The worst thing you can do for travel anxiety is stew. If you find yourself getting worried on the road, take immediate action to distract yourself. Read a book , listen to a podcast or take a walk during a layover. Occupying your brain will help distract you from your travel worries.

God, sometimes flying makes me nervous. I know airplanes are safe, but still I worry. Please give me Your peace Help me remember that You are watching over the plane. Bless the men and women in the cockpit. Bless the flight attendants and all the passengers. Remind me that flight is a miraculous gift from You, and that when this plane speeds through the air, it is obeying the physical laws of the world You created. As I look at the sky above and the earth below, I praise You for the beauty of Your creation. I ask Lord that I will be covered and marked by the blood of Jesus. That when they see the blood they will pass over me. I come against any plot of the enemy in the name of Jesus.

I counteract every demonic plan with the word of the Lord, that a thousand will fall at my side and ten thousand at my right hand, but they will not come near me.

Want safe travel for your loved ones?  Searching for the right prayer to pray?  Here are eight powerful prayers you can pray for your family when they travel.  These are representative of the loved ones in your life.  You can add to any of the prayers to suit your situation or family relationship.

Whether it’s by vehicle , train, boat, or plane, travel can bring up concerns regarding safety.  When the travel involves people in our family we love, the concern can increase dramatically. It doesn’t matter if our loved ones are behind the wheel or if there’s a pilot or other professional, the experience is still stressful. Knowing that you can lift them up in prayer can be a comforting practice, as you realize that God is present with them:

“ The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” ( Deuteronomy 31.8, NIV ).

While we know that accidents do happen , we still want to continue in hope and faith that God can, and will, keep our family safe and secure when they travel.  It doesn’t matter whether a loved one is going down the street to the store, across the state to school, or to the other side of the planet for vacation, we want them to return to us in one piece.

You may find peace and assurance as you read scripture and pray for them.  A favorite of mine has always been:

“ If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast” ( Psalm 139.9-10, NIV ).

It doesn’t matter where we go, God is already there with us.  There is no place we can go, or our loved ones can travel to, that God is not present.  Isn’t that a wonderful piece of truth to grab hold of as you pray for your family?

Prayer for Safe Travel for Mother

Dear God, I pray for my mother today.  She is set to fly from her home to come see us and she hasn’t been on an airplane in several years.  I pray for her safety at each point in her journey .  She usually has someone with her but this time she’s traveling solo.

Keep watch over her as she drives to the airport and goes through security.  Guide the plane safely here and enable the pilots to focus well as they takeoff and land.  I pray for me to be attentive as I drive to pick her up and bring her to our house.

I look forward to her visit and so I pray for her safe travel in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for Safe Travel for Father

Lord, my dad has to travel across the country for a business meeting this week.  I ask you to keep him safe throughout the whole travel experience.  I know there’s nothing to fear and so I place him in your hands of protection.

I pray he gets the rest he needs so when he’s driving during the week, he remains focused on the traffic.  I pray for his airplane to get him there safely and return him home safely .  Strengthen his immune system as he will be around many large groups of people during this trip.

My son has his first spring break trip in a couple of days, Lord, and I’m concerned for his safety.  He’s old enough to travel on his own, but I ask that you keep watch over him when I cannot be there.

He has to grow up and accept responsibility for himself and I have to grow in my trust of his decision-making ability.  I pray he will remember all the things we’ve taught him about how to act in public and around other people.  Keep him safe from harm due to the actions of others.

Guide my son and his group as they drive down there and throughout the week.  I pray this, trusting in the God who saves us through Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for Safe Travel for Daughter

Lord Jesus, can you watch over my daughter this week?  She’s going to visit our extended family for a couple of weeks, all by herself.  It’s a nonstop flight so I’m thankful that she will not have to navigate changing planes or anything.  I just want her to arrive safe and enjoy time with the family.

I pray for her to use good judgment as she navigates the concourse here, and then the subway when she arrives there.  I ask that you surround her with your protective hand, and keep her aware of her surroundings at all times.

I’m so happy Lord!  My brother is coming so see us!  He hasn’t seen my family in almost three years so we are looking forward to having him here.  He’s driving all the way, so I ask that keep him safe on all the roads he travels.

It’s a 15-hour trip that he says he’s going to make in one day.  Grant him refreshing sleep so he is fully attentive every hour he drives.  Keep errant vehicles away from him and may his journey be accident-free.  We just want to see him here safe and sound.

I ask that you keep her mind alert and her body relaxed so that when she arrives she is in good spirits to see (name).  Let them have a safe visit together and then return her to us with no obstacles.  I pray for my sister’s safe travel in the name of Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Lord, I know my husband has to travel from time to time, but I always get nervous when he has to be away for several days.  I pray to you now, trusting that you will keep him secure wherever he goes this time.  I pray he encounters no illness or danger.

I know as I pray that you are already present with him and watching over him and that brings me peace, Lord. Thank you for hearing my prayer, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for Safe Travel for Wife

Father in heaven, as my wife travels this week to see her parents, I ask that you hold her in your mighty hand of protection.  I don’t like that she’s driving alone but there was no other way for her to make the trip happen.

Please keep her safe at every meal and bathroom stop, and at every gas station where she fills up the car.  Let there be no delays for her and no accidents in her midst.  I can’t imagine what I’d do if something happened to her Lord, so I pray this prayer in the name of the Mighty One, Lord Jesus, Amen.

Final Thoughts

We want to not have anything happen to our loved ones, whether it’s when they are traveling , or working, or vacationing.  We don’t have to be bound up in fear or worry that something might happen.  We can lay our burdens and safety concerns at the foot of God.  We can trust that God is guiding us (and them) at every step:

” I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” ( Psalm 32.8, NIV ).

Back in ancient times, when the Hebrew people traveled regularly to Jerusalem for the different festivals, they would ordinarily sing songs along the way.  Some of those are found in the Psalms (which means songs).  A portion of one of them is worth saying and praying for.  You may wish to memorize it as your “travel prayer.”

“ The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;  the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore” ( Psalm 121.7-8, NIV ).

There are many ways for different religions to have a traveler’s prayer .

We have collected some of the best Traveler’s prayers to use in requests to God. May these prayers for safety bring you comfort and peace of mind . May these prayers for strength encourage your spirit and strengthen your faith .

Travel  is the movement of people between distant geographical locations. Travel can be done by foot, bicycle, automobile, train, boat, bus, airplane, ship or other means, with or without luggage, and can be one way or round trip. Travel can also include relatively short stays between successive movements, as in the case of  tourism .

Jewish Wayfarer’s Prayer

(Tefilat HaDerech)

May it be Your will, o Lord, our God and the God of our ancestors, that You lead us toward peace, guide our footsteps toward peace, and make us reach our desired destination for life, gladness, and peace. May You rescue us from the hand of every foe, ambush along the way, and from all manner of punishments that assemble to come to earth. Traveling by Plane

God, sometimes flying makes me nervous. I know airplanes are safe, but still I worry. Please give me Your peace Help me remember that You are watching over the plane. Bless the men and women in the cockpit. Bless the flight attendants and all the passengers. Remind me that flight is a miraculous gift from You, and that when this plane speeds through the air, it is obeying the physical laws of the world You created. As I look at the sky above and the earth below, I praise You for the beauty of Your creation. I place myself confidently in Your care, knowing that, just as You guide me on the ground, so Your loving arms protect me in the air. Amen.

Traveling by ship

Heavenly Father, Please protect us while we travel. The streets are busy and the trip is long. Keep us safe from the dangers of the road. Give us courtesy and patience with other drivers. And help us reach our destination swiftly and easily, always knowing that You are with us. Amen.

Prayer for a Stress-Free Family Trip

Please protect us on the journey we are about to take. Support us with Your strength and grace when we are weary. Help us to be mindful of Your presence and love in times of stress and guide us to make our time together meaningful and memorable. Amen.

In God’s Care

Dear Lord, Please keep my family in Your watchful care while we are away from home. Keep us safely protected in Your sheltering arms. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Recite the following prayer if one is afraid of drowning

If God wills, we repent and seek pardon from Him; we worship Him and Him we bow and prostrate. Our Lord we praise. ‘O` God! Make this return (journey) of mine a blessed one, a fruitful one, associated with a sincere repentance; one that will make prosperity incumbent for me. ‘O’ the Most Merciful.

Glory be to Him (God) who has brought this (vehicle) under our control though we were unable to control it. Sure, we are to return to our Lord.

“Oh God keep me and all the things with me safe and sound and let them reach the destination safely.” The person who proceeds on a journey in the above manner the Almighty God will be looking after his welfare and of those people and things who are will him, and he will reach safely his destination.

“Oh God! I leave unto Thy care my life, my wife and children, my merchandise, my generation, my world here and hereafter, deposits under my custody and place my end of life in Thy hands.”

After Arrival

Oh God make my arrival over here rewarding, for Thou art the best host and care-taker.

To guardian angel

My holy angel guardian, ask the Lord to bless the journey which I undertake, that it may profit the health of my soul and body; that I may reach its end; and that, returning safe and sound, I may find all at home in good health. Do thou guard, guide, and preserve us. Amen.”

Roman Catholic Prayer

O Almighty and merciful God, who has commissioned your angels to guide and protect us, may they be our companions from our setting out until our return. Clothe us with their invisible protection; keep from us all danger of collision, of fire, of explosion, of falling; and finally, having preserved us from all evil, and especially from sin, guide us to our heavenly home. Orthodox Christian Prayer

Anglican Prayer

O God, our heavenly Father, whose glory fills the whole creation, and whose presence we find wherever we go: preserve those who travel; surround them with your loving care; protect them from every danger; and bring them in safety to their journey’s end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For a safe journey

„In the name of God I go on this journey. May God the Father be with me, God the Son protect me, and God the Holy Ghost be by my side. Amen.„

Lord, be our guide and our protector on the journey we are about to take. Watch over us.

Protect us from accidents. Keep us free from harm to body and soul. Lord, support us with Your grace when we are tired. Help us be patient in any trouble which may come our way. Keep us always mindful of Your presence and love. Amen.

Authorities search for missing kayaker who left alone on a central minnesota lake.

A search is underway in central Minnesota for a man who has been missing since late Saturday when he left alone in a kayak, officials said.

The Kandiyohi Sheriff's Office said it was notified that the man, identified Monday as Shane White, departed in his kayak around 11:30 p.m. Saturday from his vacation rental on the south side of Nest Lake near Spicer.

The kayak was located about 1:15 p.m. Sunday on the lake, but search crews from several agencies had yet to find the 39-year-old man from Overland Park, Kan., as of Monday evening, the Sheriff's Office said.

Officials ask that, as the search continues, property owners nearby check shorelines and outbuildings for White, who was described as 6-foot-2, 230 pounds and wearing black shorts and a black T-shirt.

White's wife, Kim, asked for prayers for his safe return on a Facebook post Sunday. "My Shane is strong and a fighter but he needs US today! He wouldn't give up on us so let's not stop fighting for him," she said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office at 320-235-1260.

Disney Airs Most Controversial Doctor Who Episode

Recently, Disney+ aired the Doctor Who episode “Boom,” written by veteran franchise writer and former showrunner Steven Moffatt. It was a pleasant surprise to have Moffatt bring us another Doctor Who tale, but what was perhaps more surprising is that Disney brought us such a controversial episode. The streamer has historically tried to present itself as politically neutral and (relatively) family-friendly, but this episode is a giant critique of religion from beginning to end.

If you don’t have Disney+ or just haven’t watched the latest Doctor Who episode, you might be wondering how “Boom” approaches this particular controversy. For starters, the only other characters aside from the Doctor and Ruby are Anglican Marines who we have previously been seen as members of The Church (a major galactic organization with an obviously militaristic bent).

These soldiers are generally nicer than most other members of The Church that we have encountered before, but they are still devoutly faithful, something that annoys and even angers the Doctor.

While Disney has gotten a little less precious about controversial content on their streaming platform, it was still wild to see how the Doctor Who ep “Boom” went right for the throat when it came to religion. At one point, the Doctor very pointedly criticizes the faith of the Marines, noting that “faith” is “the magic word that keeps you never having to think for yourself.”

The episode does end with the Doctor reluctantly noting he personally has to have a bit of faith even if he doesn’t like it, but that is likely a cold comfort to religious audiences angered by the earlier comment.

Thoughts And Prayers

Another way that Disney’s latest Doctor Who episode effectively criticizes religion is that “Boom” very explicitly mocks the notion of having “thoughts and prayers” for others. This phrase is apparently important to the Anglican Marines, but we mostly hear it from a lethal ambulance robot that utters the phrase right before someone is about to die.

The message from writer Steven Moffatt seems clear: that this is an empty phrase exploited by others and that people should (like the Doctor usually does) take direct action to help others rather than just crossing their fingers and sending those who need help our thoughts and prayers.

Living In A Blip

The final way this Disney ep of Doctor Who critiques religion is from a quick line that is easy to miss: when Companion Ruby Sunday learns about Anglican Marines in “Boom,” she asks what they are and then asks “since when was the Church an army?”

Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor replies “since most of your history” and accuses her of “living in a blip.” This could be a reference to several different things but is most like an allusion to the Crusades, the dark historical event that many critics of religion bring up when believers claim that Christianity is a wholly peaceful religion built solely on meekness and humility.

Cue The Angry Parents

Before the believers of the world come for us, we’re not endorsing these fierce critiques, and before the atheists take out their own pitchforks, we’re not saying Moffatt shouldn’t have offered them.

It’s simply notable that Disney+, a streaming platform that once had angry parents complaining about content their children weren’t ready to see, has now aired a Doctor Who episode like “Boom” explicitly criticizing faith and organized religion. Forget the Daleks and the Cybermen–let’s hope the Doctor is ready for the fiercest foe of all: angry parent groups.
