Ville Valo reveals the HIM songs he'll be playing on his upcoming solo tour
Goth rocker Ville Valo won't be leaving HIM songs from the setlist on his 2023 solo tour. Here's what he'll be including
On January 13, 2023, Ville Valo will finally be releasing his debut solo album, Neon Noir , via Heartagram Records and Universal Music. On the very same day, the goth rocker will be embarking on a long solo tour across the globe.
While in conversation with Loudwire , the musician revealed that the setlist will be comprised of both classic HIM songs and his own solo material.
“A lot of solo artists sort of burn their bridges — denounce your past,” Valo explains.
“We can not have a night without The Funeral Of Hearts, a night without Join Me In Death, a night without Buried Alive By Love, a night without (Rip Out) The Wings Of A Butterfly.’ We’re doing When Love And Death Embrace , The Kiss of Dawn, Poison Girl, Right Here in My Arms …the live favorites. All that stuff will be included in the set.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Valo touches on the subject of tour etiquette, particularly in regards to his past behaviours of acting like a "rascal" after each show - AKA, indulging in rockstar excess.
"You think you should get wasted after every gig, you should behave like a rascal" he says. "It took me 20 years to realize that anybody can do drugs. You can be a plumber and do a bunch of cocaine — that’s not special. The special thing is to be a great plumber, because we all need one.”
“I had to make the decision whether to become a really really good drunk, or a reasonably okay musician, because I couldn’t do both. That’s when I called it a day, leaving my barfly days behind and concentrating solely on music.

"I think it was a good call, because bars are always there, the tap is ever-flowing. I saw the night side of rock and roll for quite a bit, for a good 10 years or so. I’m glad for the experience, but no thank you. Been there, done that.”

Tour Championship purse, prize money: Sahith Theegala’s self-imposed penalty cost him $2.5 million at East Lake
Sahith theegala called himself for a two-shot penalty on saturday that nobody, not even the cameras, noticed.
The PGA Tour’s season is officially over, and Scottie Scheffler is walking away from East Lake Golf Club with the FedEx Cup and a massive $25 million paycheck .
Scheffler capped his historic season with a win at the Tour Championship on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta. That marked his seventh victory of the year and his first ever FedEx Cup title. It also nearly doubled his total earnings in 2024, which was already a Tour record, and ended a dominant season that the PGA Tour hasn't seen since Tiger Woods nearly two decades ago.
While the elevated prize pool this week made it significant even for the last golfer in the field, who still walked away with more than $500,000, the most notable part of the payouts at East Lake had to do with Sahith Theegala and his self-imposed two-shot penalty . With how he finished, it’s among one of the more costly penalties in recent golf history.
Sahith Theegala’s penalty costs him $2.5 million
Theegala called himself out for a penalty on Saturday afternoon after he said he grounded his club in a fairway bunker on the third hole at East Lake. But nobody, not even the cameras, noticed that Theegala had done anything wrong in the moment.
Theegala, after hitting his approach shot out of the bunker, said he noticed a small amount of sand move on his backswing. While it wasn’t noticeable to anybody but him, Theegala immediately called over playing partner Xander Schauffel and the rules official. Eventually, he was hit with a two-shot penalty and ended up making a double bogey on the hole.
Sahith Theegala self-reported a two-stroke penalty for touching the sand with his club during his backswing. He currently moves from -13 to -11, but will have the opportunity to review the penalty with a rules official following his round. pic.twitter.com/rLAgGJGZ5c — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) August 31, 2024
“I wouldn’t be able to sleep [if I didn’t call the penalty],” he said after the third round.
Despite the double, Theegala made seven birdies on his back nine and five straight to close out his day. That dropped him to 17-under on the week, which moved him into solo third.
Then on Sunday, Theegala made four birdies on his front nine and finished with a 7-under 64 thanks largely to a pair of birdies to close out his day. That moved him to 24-under on the week, and gave him a solo third finish. While that earned him a $7.5 million paycheck, he would have tied with Collin Morikawa in second without his penalty. That would have sent him home with $10 million instead.
So in total, his self-imposed penalty cost him $2.5 million.

Theegala won for the first time on Tour last season at the Fortinet Championship. He picked up his eighth top-10 finish this season on Sunday afternoon, and he earned a spot on the U.S. Presidents Cup team later this month.
While his penalty ended up costing him several million, Theegala walked away with a clean conscience — and likely plenty of new fans.

Watch: scottie scheffler shanks a bunker shot at the tour championship, share this article.
ATLANTA – Even the world No. 1 can have a case of the shanks.
Scottie Scheffler, who is trying to close out his first FedEx Cup title, picked a bad time to hit the dreaded shrank. At the eighth hole at East Lake Golf Club on Sunday during the final round of the Tour Championship, Scheffler shanked a bunker shot, his second shot at the drivable par 4.
“Shanked it!” NBC’s Kevin Kisner said.
“This Tour Championship just got game on,” NBC’s Dan Hicks said.
Dissecting what went wrong, Kisner said, “Right off the hosel there, running that club too far out to the right.”
“That disturbing hosel sound out of the sand,” Hick said.
“You can see it in his body language right now, Dan,” Jim “Bones” Mackay said. “He is shaken up.”
Scheffler made bogey, the only one made at the hole all day, and Collin Morikawa, his closest competitor, made birdie and clenched his fist for a two-stroke swing. What was once a seven-stroke lead for Scheffler had been trimmed to two.
“I’ve never seen him shank a bunker shot in all my days,” Kisner said. “The only reason I was thinking maybe he shanked it is because maybe he was trying to hit a fat shot and not catch it clean like you normally do and wanted it to release down that hill, so, a little indecision on where he wanted to strike the sand.”
Added Hicks: “Things just got incredibly more interesting.”
Indeed, they did.
“I got off to a good start and then I had obviously the two holes there on 7 and 8, and Teddy did a good job of keeping me focused. Was able to hit a nice shot in there into 9 and really change the momentum,” Scheffler said after his round.
Scheffler being Scheffler he bounced back, striping a 4-iron to 3 feet for an easy birdie at nine to restore some order in the universe. But you never know when the shanks will strike — even to world No. 1.
No one is immune to the shank. Not even Scottie Scheffler. pic.twitter.com/RVlQfZyzjG — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) September 1, 2024

VILLE VALO Announces April/May 2024 European Tour
And so ends a new beginning. Nine short months have passed since "Neon Noir" cast its goth-inflected enchantments on the world. As a record, it was more than twelve wrought-iron statements of intent. It marked a triumphant return of HIM frontman Ville Valo to the live stage, and the ensuing seasons have seen His Infernal Majesty summoning a long dormant worldwide flock with a bold new testament to his rare ability to craft timeless melodies that speak powerfully to matters of the heart.
But while VV 's glorious second act has already seen its share of brilliant highlights, it now emerges that some of its brightest moments are yet to come. More importantly, it has been announced that they will not shine forever.
Hot on the heels of a rapturously received "Neon Noir" tour and a current U.S. run with BLACK VEIL BRIDES comes a new slew of dates which will include the return of legendary, Valo -curated New Year's bash Helldone Festival on December 31. It will also see VV making a historic, headlining appearance at one of the most prestigious and revered music venues in the world: London's Royal Albert Hall on May 10, 2024.
As the artist formerly of the band HIM now reveals, these are more than mere upcoming appearances. Not only will they mark the end of "Neon Noir" 's touring cycle. They will also herald the end of Ville Valo's latest reincarnation.
He says: "The idea behind VV and 'Neon Noir' was to symbolically finish what HIM started, and after the bangs and whimpers at the Royal Albert Hall, it's time to reshuffle the pieces of the puzzle once again and give Herbert West a shout." As for what might come next, well — that's a mystery, for now. "I had no expectations whatsoever when releasing music under the banner of VV , so I've been quite shocked to see people still find my kind of racket enjoyable, warts and all. Touring has been way less painful than I dared to hope, and as we say in Finland, it fits my arse like a glove. A mourning glove from a bygone era."
"Neon Noir" tour 2023/2024:
Dec. 31 - Helldone Festival, Helsinki (Tavastia Club) Mar. 13 - Auckland, New Zealand (The Powerstation) Mar. 15 - Melbourne, Australia (Northcote Theatre) Mar. 16 - Sydney, Australia (Metro) Mar. 17 - Brisbane, Australia (Tivoli)
With special guest EIVØR and support from ZETRA :
Apr. 04 - Athens, Greece (Fuzz Club) Apr. 05 - Thessaloniki, Greece (Principal Club Theater) Apr. 06 - Sofia, Bulgaria (Joy Station) Apr. 08 - Bucharest, Romania (Sala Palatului) Apr. 09 - Belgrade, Serbia (Dom Omladine) Apr. 11 - Ljubljana, Slovenia (Cvetlicarna) Apr. 12 - Bratislava, Slovakia (MMC) Apr. 13 - Katowice, Poland (MCK) Apr. 15 - Vilnius, Lithuania (Compensa) Apr. 16 - Riga, Latvia (Palladium) Apr. 17 - Tallinn, Estonia (Helitehas) Apr. 19 - Oulu, Finland (Tullisali) Apr. 20 - Seinäjoki, Finland (Rytmikorjaamo) Apr. 21 - Jyväskylä, Finland (Lutakko) Apr. 23 - Tampere, Finland (Pakkahuone) Apr. 24 - Turku, Finland (Logomo) Apr. 25 - Turku-Stockholm, Finland (M/S Viking Grace) Apr. 26 - Gothenburg, Sweden (Pustervik) Apr. 28 - Oslo, Norway (Rockefeller) Apr. 29 - Stockholm, Sweden (Berns) Apr. 30 - Copenhagen, Denmark (Amager Bio) May 02 - Bremen, Germany (Aladin) May 03 - Leipzig, Germany (Haus Auensee) May 04 - Wiesbaden, Germany (Schlachthof) May 05 - Brussels, Belgium (A.B.) May 07 - Tilburg, The Netherlands (013) May 10 - London, UK (Royal Albert Hall)
Tickets for the "Neon Noir" 2024 tour go on general sale on Friday, September 15.
Valo played his first solo concert in the U.S. under the VV banner on March 31 at TLA (Theatre For The Living Arts) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Joining Ville on stage as part of his backing band are Mikko Virta on guitar, Risto Rikala on drums, Sampo Sundström on guitar and Juho Vehmanen on bass.
VV 's debut album, "Neon Noir" , was made available on January 13 via Heartagram Records , distributed by UMG / Spinefarm .
In April 2022, Valo released the first single from "Neon Noir" , a song called "Loveletting" , which marked his first new music in over two years, following the release of the three-track "Gothica Fennica Vol. 1" EP, also released under the VV banner, in March 2020.
Like "Neon Noir" , "Gothica Fennica Vol. 1" bore a strong musical resemblance to HIM and featured the tracks "Salute The Sanguine" , "Run Away From The Sun" and "Saturnine Saturnalia" .
HIM completed a farewell tour in 2017, closing the final chapter on the band's 26-year career.
Formed in 1991 by Valo , guitarist Mikko "Linde" Lindström and bassist Mikko "Migé" Paananen , HIM offered the world a new take on the metal genre, which became known as "love metal" (also the title of their fourth album).

Jeremy Clarkson says Clarkson's Farm saved him from being devastated by The Grand Tour ending

It's the end of an era, as The Grand Tour comes to a close with its final special, One For The Road, on 13th September.
Not only does this bring to an end that show, which has run since 2016, but also the on-screen partnership of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, who have presented together since May joined the other two on Top Gear in 2003.
In spite of this, Clarkson has revealed that he was "surprisingly unemotional", for one major reason - Clarkson's Farm .
Speaking about the final days of filming on The Grand Tour, Clarkson said: "I'm not saying this in a derogatory way by any means, but James has the emotions of a stone. He just doesn't do emotions, so there were no tears from him. Hammond, yes.
"I was surprisingly unemotional, in a weird way, because I can see James and Hammond any time I want to, they’re only a phone call away, and I’m sure we will.
More like this
"And I’ve done enough of the travel, I was worn out by it. Where I would have been emotional was saying goodbye to the crew, because most of them started with us."
He continued: "There's a photograph taken on Kubu Island of Russ Edwards (sound supervisor) and Casper Leaver (camera operator) and Andy Wilman (executive producer), who were there on the original crew, and they're still with us. You can’t say that about any other show.
- The Voice UK's new coaching duo Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones: "We're like Batman and Robin!"
- Alex Brooker: 'I had a 9-day contract with Channel 4 – it's a privilege to host The Last Leg for 12 years'
"We are a dysfunctional family, and I’d miss that, except for one tiny detail. There I was with all these guys that I've known and worked with for 24 years, and I said, 'I’ll see you all on Monday morning,' because they all work on Clarkson’s Farm.

While Clarkson's Farm will be returning for a fourth season, the final special of The Grand Tour will take place in Zimbabwe, and will feature the trio going on a road trip in a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-litre and a Triumph Stag.
Even though the show in its current format is ending, Hammond has revealed that "it will be carrying on" in some form.
He said: "The Grand Tour continues. We’re stepping away as the hosts, but Prime will be continuing it. So I can’t wait to sit on my own chair and watch somebody else do it. That’s amazing."

Breaking news, tim walz’s family members go viral as they allegedly turn against him, pose in ‘walz’s for trump’ shirts.
Political commentators were in an uproar on social media Wednesday after a picture purportedly showing eight relatives of Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz expressing support for former President Donald Trump went viral.
“Tim Walz’s family back in Nebraska wants you to know something…,” Cornhusker State Republican Charles W. Herbster wrote on X Wednesday morning alongside the photo, which The Post has not been able to independently confirm shows Walz’s relatives.
A political operative who helped disseminate the image, told The Post the people in it were related to Walz through his paternal great-uncle, but declined to give their identifies, claiming that they were overwhelmed by the attention.
All eight people in the photo posed in front of a “Trump 2024: Take America Back” flag while wearing navy blue “Nebraska Walz’s for Trump” t-shirts.
None were willing to be named or speak with The Post Wednesday. The Harris-Walz campaign declined to comment.
A mutual friend of the operative and one of Walz’s supposed relatives helped ensure the picture wound up in the hands of Herbster, a two-time candidate for Nebraska governor who has faced past controversy over sexual misconduct allegations that he denied.
The image quickly spread on social media, with conservative commentators quick to note the incongruency.
“Now, do we think this will get the same coverage Mary Trump or Kerry Kennedy has received?” podcaster Megyn Kelly mused on X, referring to famous relatives who have spoken out against the Republican nominee and his endorsement by the former independent presidential candidate.
“In the last few days, Walz’s brother and multiple other members of his extended family have come out publicly against him and for Trump. Is anyone in the leftwing media going to cover this?” Donald Trump Jr. wrote on X.

- Who is Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ VP pick?
- Tim Walz signed laws catering to illegal migrants, giving them free health care, tuition
- Trump team says it’s relieved Kamala Harris chose ‘extremist’ Tim Walz: ‘An easy opponent’
- Editorial: Kamala Harris bows to the radicals by picking lefty Tim Walz as her running mate
“So Tim Walz’s brother doesn’t want him to be vice president. His extended family doesn’t want him to be vice president. Members of his National Guard unit don’t want him to be vice president . I’m starting to think this guy isn’t the stand-up midwestern family guy that he claims to be,” conservative Greg Price wrote.
Tim Walz was born in West Point, Neb. and grew up in rural Valentine. He previously described his upbringing as coming “from a town of 400 — 24 kids in a class, 12 cousins, farming, those types of things.”
After a stint teaching in China, Walz met his wife Gwen at Alliance High School in Nebraska while teaching and working as an assistant coach for the school’s football as well as basketball teams.
Tim and Gwen moved to Minnesota in 1996, but he has many relatives still living in Nebraska, including his sister, 63-year-old Sandy Dietrich, who told The Post Wednesday that the governor’s immediate family are pretty much “all Democrats,” except for their older brother Jeff, who has made multiple disparaging Facebook posts about the vice presidential hopeful.
Jeff Walz, 67, a father of two, lives in the Florida Panhandle with his wife, Laurie. Multiple attempts by The Post to reach him Wednesday were unsuccessful.
Here is the latest on VP pick Tim Walz’s time in the military
- National Guard vet claims Walz went above him to secure retirement: ‘He knew I would have told him, “Suck it up”’
- Tim Walz falsely claimed he carried weapons ‘in war’ in resurfaced clip: ‘Absolutely false’
- Tim Walz left National Guard battalion ‘hanging,’ ‘slithered out the door’ before Iraq deployment: vets
- Tim Walz a ‘coward’ and ‘traitor’ for retiring from military before Iraq, says Guardsman who replaced VP pick
“I’m 100% opposed to all his ideology,” Jeff Walz wrote on Facebook Aug. 30 about his brother.
“I’ve thought long and hard about doing something like that! I’m torn between that and just keeping my family out of it,” he replied to one user who suggested he “Get on stage with President Trump and endorse him.”
“The stories I could tell,” Jeff Walz added. “Not the type of character you want making decisions about your future.”
Since his posts went viral, the elder Walz brother has expressed regret that his private remarks blew up in the public eye, but contended that he stands by his views.
“Sounds like a really great guy!” Trump wrote on Truth Social after The Post reported on Jeff Walz’s comments.
A source familiar with the family dynamic suggested to The Post that the Walz family had hoped Jeff would refrain from badmouthing his brother to the press ahead of the Nov. 5 election.
Jeff and Tim Walz haven’t spoken in eight years, the older brother previously posted on Facebook and reiterated in a recent interview with NewsNation.
The Minnesota governor has made quips on the campaign trail about awkward family political discourse at the Thanksgiving table.
“Remember the time when you could go to Thanksgiving with your relatives,” he said last month , “and not complain about politics the whole time?”

The rock band HIM hails from Helsinki, Finland and was formed in 1991. Their music traverses several genres, including gothic rock and metal.
Originally known by its full name His Infernal Majesty (HIM), the group includes Ville Valo, guitarist Mikko "Linde" Lindström, and bassist Mikko "Migé" Paananen. They recorded and released their first EP “666 Ways to Love: Prologue” in 1996 along with follow-up album “Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666” released on 7 November 1997 by Hiili Hiilesmaa. The triple sixes were a theme for the first album, which lasted 66:06 minutes long and contained 66 tracks. The cover single of “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaack gained notable success in Europe.
HIM became popular in the States with their sophomore album “Razorblade Romance” in 2002 especially with the single “Join Me In Death” (or to avoid misinterpretations of suicide, it was known for short as “Join Me”). The band’s name however was changed to “HER” as “HIM” was already copyrighted by another band. “Razorblade Romance” was a favorite in Germany as well, reaching No. 1 in the charts.
HIM added another member, keyboard player Emerson Burton to the group for their third album “Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights” which was released 27 August 2001. Again, their music was recognized on the charts in Finland and Germany. The album “Love Metal” which came out in Europe in 2003 was the first album to feature their signature logo called a heartagram: a heart with a pentagram. The logo symbolizes the binary balance of light and dark, love and hate, and life and death.
The album “Dark Light” released in 2005 became the highest grossing album in the U.S. and the only Finnish band to be certified gold in the States. The video for the single “Killing Loneliness” has a cameo by tattoo artist Kat Von D. HIM cites The Doors, The Stooges and Black Sabbath as musical influences.
Live reviews
HIM are certainly titans of the emo rock genre, but their recognisability spans far beyond that scene, thanks in no small part to their striking name - it stands for His Infernal Majesty - as well as their signature ‘heartagram’ logo, which has made it as far afield as the video for ‘DARE’ by Gorillaz. They’ve been together for more than twenty years, and after a disagreement saw them leave Sire/Warner in 2011, the strength and size of their cult fanbase was enough to earn them a deal with another major almost immediately, signing with a subsidiary of Sony. Their first release on that imprint, Tears on Tape, met with some of the strongest reviews of their career last year, and saw them touring extensively, too; they played a long run of dates across the UK last October. The setlists spanned their entire career, with the Finns opting to dedicate pretty much equal prominence to each record rather than lean too heavily on Tears on Tape, although there was room for them to mix it up, too; bizarrely, they covered Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’. Earlier this month, an incendiary set at Sonisphere proved that they’re only picking up steam; they’ll continue to play European festivals throughout the summer.
Report as inappropriate
Perhaps it is the dark winters and somber nature of the Scandinavians yet historically they have always been interested in metal and gloom rock. Finnish outfit HIM are one of the most successful bands to emerge from that part of the world with platinum selling albums across Europe. They have been touring relentlessly around the globe since the release of their debut album in 1997 and this huge dedication really pays off in their live show.
It is a huge operation now with carefully planned lighting displays and dark stage decorations to add to the overall somber overtone of the music. The songs still remain very much as the central driving force with a great mixture from the new record 'Tears on Tape' along with older material that the fans show their obvious adoration for. The band comments on the great energy demonstrated tonight as the fans jump, chant and mosh to the very final tone of 'The Funeral of Hearts'. The group dedicates the encore track 'When Love and Death Embrace' to the energetic audience.
I don't know how to describe all this spectrum of feelings I felt yesterday at Him's concert (Moscow Stadium) .. They were.. they are still so deep.
I was just mesmerized by their performance devouring every single sound (more! more! more!)
I want to thank the universe for giving us such a band, such a music. I hope it's not the end. It breaks the heart to think so.
And I'm listening to their recordings and drawing Ville. I need it, to give a way to my feelings.. I love Him deeply. Thank you!! Keep doing what you do and be inspired
It was amazing!! Great atmosphere, the staff at the place were organised and really helpful! It all went smooth and the concert... Just incredible! Of course if you came there to enjoy the music and see the one of the greatest singer, I was disappointed with the people around as most of them just stand there with their beers and phones, which was bizarre. If you're coming for a concert maybe at least look at the stage?
Anyway HIM I'll miss you guy!!
It was opening night in Phoenix of the tour. They had lots of sound problems. Vile I’m pretty sure couldn’t hear anything. He mumbled through most of the songs. Some Parts he didn’t even try to sing. We left before the concert was over. I hate to say it but it was boring. He lacks any real stage pressance. The guitarist, bassists, and drummer rocked.
I haven't discovered H.I.M until after the Scream works album. I always wanted to see H.I.M and I had to go to their farewell tour. This was my first and last time seeing them. I can only hope 1 person out of the band goes sole.
Oh my gosh amazing. Just go. Last chance to dance and it was awesome. Love the smaller venue shows because it's like you're right there with them. Plus, got to see the Linde guitar faces he makes. Made my year.
I love this band so much. Im beyond happy that I got to see them one last time. I wish the very best for each member as they start another chapter in there lives. I will always love this band. HIM fan forever.
HIM is my childhood. My biggest regret is not seeing them live when I had the chance. I've everything crossed they reform for one last hurrah! Doesn't matter the continent I'm there this one last time.
Denver Co. 10/29/17. The band was tight Ville was also singing good. First 2 songs. Then the mic.problems there was no sound. It was inexcusable the sound guy should be fired.

Jeremy Clarkson reveals how Clarkson’s Farm saved him after ’emotional’ farewell to The Grand Tour
- Conor O'Brien

JEREMY Clarkson shared how Clarkson's Farm saved him during The Grand Tour's 'emotional' ending.
The popular Prime Video motoring programme will air its finale on September 13 , having launched in 2016.
Titled "One for the Road", the epic event will also mark the ending of Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond and James May 's 22-year on-screen collaboration.
Jeremy, 64, admitted he was "surprisingly unemotional" - as he would be able to reunite with his co-stars "any time" he wants to.
The star added: "Where I would have been emotional was saying goodbye to the crew because most of them started with us.
"There's a photograph taken on Kubu Island of Russ Edwards and Casper Leaver (Camera Operator) and Andy Wilman, who were there on the original crew, and they're still with us. You can’t say that about any other show.

"We are a dysfunctional family, and I’d miss that, except for one tiny detail.
"There I was with all these guys that I've known and worked with for twenty-four years and I said, “I’ll see you all on Monday morning” because they all work on Clarkson’s Farm.
"I'm 100 per cent convinced I would have been a lot more emotional without the farm show."
As for whether the others got misty-eyed, Jeremy shared: "I'm not saying this in a derogatory way by any means, but James has the emotions of a stone.

The Grand Tour began after Jeremy, Richard and James all left BBC 's Top Gear in 2015.
Joined by executive producer Andy Wilman, the show is ending its run after 46 episodes.
Ahead of the final outing, Prime Video released a trailer giving fans a sneak-peek at the group's last motoring adventure.
In the emotional clip, Richard appears to well up as he says: “I never thought that what we do together would go on as it has.”
The Grand Tour episode guide
How many seasons of The Grand Tour are there and where do they take place?
The Grand Tour launched on Prime Video in 2016 and quickly became one of the streamer’s biggest hits as hosts Jeremy , 63, James , 60, and Richard , 52, felt it was time they move on from Top Gear hit the road.
They have now brought five epic series of motoring adventures to the small screen, each taking place in different locations and even featuring celebrity guests.
- Series 1 aired from 2016 to 2017 and took the presenters to a number of foreign locales, including Jordan, Morocco and Italy.
- The series is comprised of 13 episodes, with episodes 7 and 8 making up a two-part special set in Namibia, where the trio embarked on an epic beach buggy challenge.
- Jeremy, Richard and James returned for more motoring actor in series 2, and drove their way across Europe as they tested out some of their dream vehicles like the Bugatti Chiron and the McLaren 720S.
- This series, which aired from 2017 to 2018, is made up of 11 episodes. It features regular 'studio segments' filmed in the team's permanent tent in the Cotswolds, and had regular participation from celebrities with two guests going head-to-head on timed laps every episode.
- In 2019, the presenting trio crossed continents - from North America, to South America, to Europe and Asia - putting both new vehicles and classic sports cars through their paces.
- This series was the last to feature the regular studio segments, car reviews and timed laps.
- To mark the end of this era the final episode's last segment includes a montage of scenes featuring the presenters over the course of their career as a trio, not only from this programme, but also from their time hosting Top Gear.
- This series marked a complete change in format for The Grand Tour as it consists entirely for feature-length specials which aired between 2019 and 2021.
- The first two chronicle Jeremy, Richard and James' epic adventures across Asia and Africa, while the third and fourth episodes saw them put foreign cars to the test on their home turf. And fitting American vehicles through Scottish roads is no easy feat.
- Following the same format as series 4, the fifth and final series of The Grand Tour also consists of four feature-length specials.
- The first of these hits screens in 2022 and follows the trio as they travelled through Norway, Sweden and Finland in three Rally-Inspired Sports Saloons.
- The second episode was another Euro adventure while the third took the presenters back to Africa.
- The fourth instalment of the series and final ever episode of The Grand Tour, titled One for the Road, premieres on September 13, 2024. It promises to be an emotional one as the trio set out on one epic final adventure in Zimbabwe and reflect on their 22-year-long working relationship and friendship.
While Jeremy addresses their epic final adventure in Zimbabwe, saying, “we really did save the best to last.”
It was reported last year that the trio had quit The Grand Tour , ending the show after eight years.
Writing in The Sunday Times, Jeremy penned: "After 36 years of talking about cars on television , I’m packing it in, because I’m too old and fat to get into the cars that I like and not interested in driving those I don’t."
