T he latest restaurant to land at the Trafford Centre has opened its doors - or in this case, its rather glamorous red velvet curtains. A Broadway-inspired diner where waiters break into show tunes from musicals like Cats, Chicago and the Lion King has finally landed at the shopping centre just outside The Orient.

Occupying the White House-esque building know as The Orangery, which was previously home to restaurant chain Frankie & Benny's and before it, bars like Kro, Tiggi's and Mantos, The Broadway Diner has been described as the ‘ultimate dining destination for theatre lovers and food enthusiasts’. While naturally there's plenty of jazz hands on display, there's also musical-themed cocktails and diner-style dishes with tongue-in-cheek names that nod to some of the most celebrated musicals and theatre productions.

If you're wondering why the name or concept feels familiar, that's because it comes from the team behind Viral Ventures, who are also behind Karen’s Diner , the Australian-American chain of theme restaurants where staff are paid to be intentionally rude to customers throughout the meal. Broadway Diner is very different to Karen's though, so instead of insults at your table and a generally hostile atmosphere, the new concept is more about waiters belting out classics as you chow down on some American diner staples.

Lit up with a 'Broadway' sign as you enter, the space still feels slightly reminiscent as it's former incarnation as a Frankie's & Benny's. But, while you'll notice the booths, bar and kitchen pass have remained, the décor has been spruced up with the ‘essence of Broadway theatre’ complete with red velvet curtains and walls adorned with musical posters.

Before you head into the main restaurant for the full show, diners can enjoy one of the diner's 'Curtains Open' cocktails in the bar area, as well as spirts, beers and fizz. Show-themed drinks include an old fashioned now known as 'My Fair Lady' £15.95, a Bramble Streisand £14.95 and 'You Can't Stop The Heat' (£15.95) a spicy take on a classic margarita.

As well as small glasses of wine, which start from £5.80, there's also glasses of prosecco for £5.75 or bottles at £30 a pop, plus spirits from £4.95 and a range of soft drinks. Once drinks have been sorted and guests have soaked up the atmosphere, a waiter ushers them over to their table, just in time for the show to start.

As guests walk around to their booths and tables, they'll also notice as grand piano and a lit-up stage right in the middle of the restaurant, where the main event takes place. From here, the magic really starts, and waiters seamlessly switch between asking you if you would like any sides with your burger and suddenly, with no literally no warning, breaking into song.

It might not be for everyone, but for musical lovers, the chance to hear renditions of West End and Broadway shows from some very talented performers, while nibbling on some wings and fries, is likely to be an idea; night out. The repertoire of show tunes is impressive and ranges from Kinky Boots and Wicked to Les Misérables and Hamilton , as well as hits from Oliver!, Rent and Mamma Mia!

The venue’s American-styled menu meanwhile, features a range of burgers, loaded fries, and milkshakes, alongside plant-based options. If you fancy some small plates with a twist, there's the 'Don't Rain On My Potato' (£4.95), or the 'Hakuna Ma Tartar' calamari (£8.95), and the 'I Like To Be In America' chicken and waffles with maple syrup (£8.95). The starters also include lots of vegetarian, vegan and Halal options like 'Big Girls Eat Cous Cous' (£6.95), and the 'Patti Lupesto' sautéed mushrooms on ciabatta.

If you're hungrier than Oliver Twist though, you may want to opt for the one of the larger plates. As well as the stuffed pitta known as 'Got To Pitta Pocket Or Two' (£11.95), there's some American classics like the 'Meat Me Inside' Hoagie meatball sub smothered in marinara sauce (£11.95), and the 'Cheeseus Christ Superstar', a big beef patty with bacon, cheese and Broadway Diner's own homemade sauce (£13.95).

You need to order fast though otherwise you server may have already assumed their position on the stage and be belting out 'Do-Re-Mi' from Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music or reducing the audience to tears (the good kind) with 'Can you Feel Love Tonight from The Lion King. On that note, there's also a huge Lion prop in the entrance, so you may get a full show at some point.

One person who is stepping away from the limelight though is manager Mica Young, who some people may recognise as the unofficial poster woman of Karen's Diner , at least here in the UK. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News , she says that not only is she happy to drop her 'Karen' persona, but spotlight some very impressive musical talent.

"Broadway Diner is the place to be if you're a musical theatre fan and we've got all the Broadway classics. Each time you visit, you'll have a completely different experience with different singers and songs, and it's just a really good night out. All our staff are singers, and that will often include our bartenders and chefs too.

"It's completely the opposite to Karen's and I think I became a bit of face of the brand at one point so people might be confused to see me here now, but I actually am nice and it was just a character I was playing. I'm excited to be nice to people and it's nice to be on the other side directing the show, she smiles.

And on creating a destination for both musical lovers and emerging talent, Mica says she can't wait. "The venue is already a magnet for local talent and our teams are a mix of both established and up and coming stars. We want to eventually be a hub where individual artists starts from and this is their base."

Stars of The Lord of the Rings have been spotted at a number of restaurants in Liverpool as they stayed in the city for Comic Con.

Hollywood stars Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Billy Boyd, Sean Astin and Dom Monaghan, known for their roles in Peter Jackson's film trilogy have been pictured in a restaurant on Smithdown Road, and one in the city's Chinatown.

A picture of their reunion on Friday 3 May at Belzan on Smithdown Road was posted on Instagram by Dom, who plays in Merry in Peter Jackson's film trilogy.

He captioned the photo: "3 hobbits and an elf and the CONVERSATION tonight was VAULTED."

Dom also posted a picture of them the following night inside New Capital, a Chinatown restaurant on Nelson Street on the night of Saturday, May 4 with the hashtag: "#squadgoals".

This year's Comic Con Liverpool has seen a huge reunion of the Lord of the Rings cast, with Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd.

One of the hits of the event has been Jared Padalecki, one of the stars of Supernatural.

He donned a Liverpool FC shirt for Comic Con, to the delight of fans who have been posting numerous photos on social media.

Sci-fi fans and cosplay enthusiasts swarm to Comic Con events held worldwide every year with Liverpool no different.

This year it was held at the M&S Bank Arena over the weekend of May 4-5.

But don't worry. There are plans already in place for that hot property in the Lower Broadway section of downtown Nashville.

When the Southern-style restaurant with a California flair opened in summer 2017, Florida Georgia Line bandmates Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard reflected on why they chose FGL House for Nashville, Tennessee, and not in Florida or Georgia in a Tennessean story. Said Hubbard: "It was a cool opportunity in our hometown here in Nashville that we love — a place we could call our own and gather with our friends, our family and our fans and create a cool environment where people can make great memories."

"What excites Tyler (Hubbard) and I the most is always staying creative," Kelley said in a statement to the Tennessean when FGL House opened in downtown Nashville. "We love seeing what fresh things we can come up with to take our music to a new level and turn our dreams into reality."

Florida Georgia Line fans experienced turmoil when bandmates Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley had disagreements during the 2020 presidential election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Hubbard unfollowed Kelley on Instagram after Biden defeated Trump for the presidency. Hubbard supported Biden, while Kelley supported Trump.

The public reaction to the social media unfollow incident − which included their wives − led to speculation that the band would break up in January 2021. Kelley's father, Ed Kelley, told The Daytona Beach News-Journal that while Hubbard and his son Brian Kelley were working on other projects, Florida Georgia Line was committed to a Live Nation tour.

Kelley did release a solo album in June 2021 called "Sunshine State of Mind," and Tyler Hubbard released a solo song "5 Foot 9" in May 2022.

Grammy-winning country artist Lainey Wilson  announced Tuesday, May 7, that she's opening her own bar in the heart of downtown Nashville in summer 2024: Bell Bottoms Up.

“I’ve always wanted to create a destination for all my fans to visit and create new memories at, in the heart of country-music city," Wilson said in a statement. "So, to have a permanent destination in Nashville, is such a dream come true. I can’t wait for all my "Wild Horses" to get to experience my home away from home.”

Spanning 27,000-square-feet, the three-story venue will include a western disco-themed rooftop, two stages and four bars. Elements of Wilson's bar will also call back to her home state of Louisiana, including menu items like her favorite salads, crawfish, shrimp boils and boudin.

The "Heart Like a Truck" singer has been a rising star over the last few years, and now, she's cementing her place at the center of Music City. The project is in partnership with TC Restaurant Group, which also operates Luke Bryan's 32 Bridge, Jason Aldean’s Kitchen and Rooftop Bar, Miranda Lambert's Casa Rosa and Morgan Wallen’s This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen.

Wilson joins Lambert as the second female country star with a venue near the Broadway thoroughfare.

Named after Wilson's fourth studio album Bell Bottom Country, the bar will take over the space of the former FGL House, 120 S. 3rd Ave. South, Nashville, Tennessee.

The Florida Georgia Line bar, which was also a TC Restaurant Group project, remained open for almost two years following  its namesake band's breakup back in 2022 . Country music fans speculated about the bar's potential closure for months after the duo split, and it ultimately closed in the first week of May.

“We are honored that Lainey has trusted us to deliver a venue that is faithful to her story, fans and love for country music,” TC Restaurant Group Vice President of Operations Grant Burlingame said, in a statement. “Fans gravitate to Lainey because of her authentic, down-to-earth personality, and Bell Bottoms Up will be a representation of her character and legacy. Lainey Wilson is one of the biggest names in country music, and we’re proud to partner with her on a venue that celebrates her genuine mark on the industry and brings another female artist to the forefront of Nashville’s Entertainment District.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – One of the most recognized entertainers of today and Tennessee native, Morgan Wallen, announces he will open a one-of-a-kind six-story venue, called “This Bar and Tennessee Kitchen” in 2024. It will be a bar, restaurant and live music concept in downtown Nashville’s iconic Lower Broadway district.

Wallen, who The New York Times calls “the biggest country star of the 2020s — and one of the biggest stars in pop, period,” has partnered with trusted Broadway owner and operator TC Restaurant Group to bring his vision to life and deliver an experience true to himself and unique to the market.

“I sing about finding myself in ‘this bar’ and now it’s coming to life. This venue will hold true to everything I love and is inspired by my fans and the way they have embraced me and my music,” said Wallen. “We’re designing a menu around some of my family favorites, so it brings a piece of East Tennessee to Music City. I hope This Bar is a place you’ll want to find yourself in, make memories with your friends and family, and celebrate the way country music has brought us all together.”

Since launching his career, Wallen has primarily shared his music and stories with fans directly on the road at his live shows, and This Bar is an extension of the boy from East Tennessee’s life. Paying homage to growing up in Tennessee, This Bar will incorporate pivotal elements that shaped Wallen’s life, with each level showcasing photos and memorabilia from his childhood as well as some of his most notable performances to date.

This Bar and Tennessee Kitchen is designed and built from the ground up to deliver a unique experience on 4th Avenue adjacent to the historic Ryman Auditorium just off Broadway in the heart of Music City. The venue will be approximately 30,000 square feet and feature three live music stages, six bars and an open-air rooftop.

The menu will be curated by Wallen with Chef Tomasz Wosiak, Vice President of Culinary Development for TC Restaurant Group, and feature southern delectables, bar bites, Tennessee favorites, and some of Mama Wallen’s own recipes.

The venue will also feature a gift shop with exclusive Morgan Wallen merchandise offerings and, yes, even an homage to his favorite Tennessee team.

Get Ready To Take The Stage!

Birmingham, it's time for a little razzle-dazzle! Who said singing and dancing on the tables was made for wild party go-ers? Well at Broadway Diner, expect singing, dancing and table performances EVERY night as your waitstaff are a star-studded lineup of talent who will be performing the night away as you enjoy our amazing diner classics and the fun vibe!

This American-style diner is full of amazing trinkets, neon signs and insta-worthy backdrops as well as mouthwateringly picturesque burgers, loaded fries and thick freak shakes (of both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic variety). If that wasn't amazing enough, we also have a bespoke BROADWAY cocktail menu with jazzed-up versions of cocktail classics.

As you dine, your table will become a stage so bring your singing voices because there will be some nostalgic tunes to sing along to.
