I have fond memories of my dad going everywhere with a cigar in his pocket.

In fact, I keep his last cigar with me on my writing desk.

Here’s a photo of it.

This is the cigar he’d picked out the night before he died and put in his pocket for the next morning. I keep it here with me, wrapped up, to remind me of him. My dad never embraced much cigar tech. He didn’t care for fancy humidors or cigar lighters or whatever. He threw his sticks in his pocket, or in his briefcase or whatever, and just hit the road. I’m sure most of his cigars were worse for the wear.

But that’s how he liked to do it. He didn’t mind a cracked wrapper or a cigar with a little bend to it.

I didn’t inherit my dad’s distaste for humidors, travel cases, and cigar gadgets. If anything, I overcorrected in the other direction. My miscellaneous junk drawer is chock full of cigar toys I bought and didn’t ever adapt. But there they sit, collecting dust, probably embarrassing my dad in the afterlife.

One thing that’s never left the rotation is my travel humidor. I’m on the road probably 20 weeks a year, visiting friends and family, going on vacation, or meeting with people for business. As a man who likes to enjoy at least one nice cigar every day , being on the road means protecting my cigars as I jostle through airports, grind out a 10-hour drive, and unpack and repack my suitcase.

Whether you prefer sweet cigars or spicy Corojos , you need a travel case or two to take them on the go with you.

So many companies are making travel cigar cases, you can pretty much take your pick. Travel humidors come in all shapes and sizes, some with gadgets and gizmos aplenty, others more austere and sophisticated. You can buy a travel cigar case in every color of the rainbow, including the rainbow itself.

In this post, I’ve reviewed my 8 favorite travel cigar cases for 2024. They each have something interesting to offer those of us who like to travel with our favorite smokes. Those reviews are below. I’ve listed them alphabetically for the sake of fairness.

1 – Cigar Caddy 40

This is my pick for the best big travel cigar case. It’s airtight and waterproof up to 100 feet (just in case you were planning on snorkeling with your favorite stogies in tow).

All jokes aside, you can put up to 40 cigars in this case and they’ll be safer than any piece of luggage you’ve ever owned.

The case comes in two colors, black, and camo. I like the black one. It just looks cooler and more sophisticated. The case has everything you need – mainly humidification and several travel trays for organization and storage. The case is rigid and crushproof, and it has nicely-built locks that don’t have that cheap feel you sometimes find in budget cases.

You’ll need to let this product do some off-gassing before you start to use it. For whatever reason, part of the manufacturing process leaves behind a typical manufacturing smell. Opening the package and letting the product air out for a day or two will completely rid you of that odor.

This case retails for around $100, but I’ve seen it on sale online for around $96 . Look for sales and wait it out if you can’t find a lower price right away. It’s a wonderful case with excellent reviews that can hold enough cigars for several weeks of enjoyment on the road. Please understand that I check these prices manually, and they might have changed by the time you read this.

2 – Craftsman’s Bench Passport XL

Having a functional humidor with good craftsmanship that can slide right into the backseat or the trunk is a good idea for any cigar smoker. That’s what Craftsman’s Bench Passport XL is great at – protecting small numbers of cigars and being really user-friendly along the way.

This isn’t a humidor. It’s literally just for protecting your sticks. It does a great job at that, and it looks sleek. When I know I’m going to smoke a half-dozen or so cigars in a couple days while I’m on the road, I reach for this case.

I use my Bench Passport XL for quick trips. It holds up to 8 cigars depending on the size. It’s become my go-to car humidor for road trips of just a few hours. In a pinch, I could pack a weeks’ worth of cigars, so long as I rationed myself to just one a day. I don’t want to do it, but if I was pressed for space, I could pull it off.

I bought my Bench Passport XL on sale for around $37 . I’ve seen it in cigar shops for a little more. I’ve also seen it for sale online for a little less. Honestly, it’s a great product even if you pay retail at your local cigar store.

3 – Firebird Travel Humidor

Styled after protective cases for cameras, Firebird’s Travel Humidor is a small but mighty protector and humidor for your cigars that looks cool and won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

I love the blaze orange color. It stands out in my luggage, on the train, on the airplane, or just in the back of my car. The latches feel strong and secure. It holds up to 10 cigars depending on the ring gauge. It includes a humidification device, which is a must if you’re checking your cigars in baggage or if you’re going to be away from them for any period of time.

I brought my Firebird Travel Humidor on a cruise, and it was perfect. I was able to buy some really nice cigars during the cruise, but I wanted a supply of some of my favorites for personal use along the way. Even through all the changing humidity and temperatures and lots of jostling about, I didn’t have a single issue with my sticks on that trip.

The case retails for just under $40 . It’s a good buy at that price, but you probably don’t have to pay it. My local shop had one on sale for a little less the other day. I can also find it for sale online right now for under $30.

4 – HF Barcelona Leather Travel Humidor (5 Count)

Put a drop or two of distilled water in the humidifier and go. That’s the appeal of HF Barcelona’s Leather Travel Humidor, a five-count travel case that’s really just a tiny leather-bound humidor. It’s stylish, it’s a little bit fancy, and I love the sound of the magnetic clasp on the leather binding. It’s somewhere between a “thwack” and a “thwump,” and it sounds like a device that a rich guy would have. If that makes sense.

Sure, you can only store five sticks at a time in it. That limits its use cases for sure. But the small size and high durability also make it perfect for going on adventures. It would look great on the golf course, but you can also use it on your riding lawnmower. The leather case is durable, and mine has started to show some really nice wear.

It’s well-made, the tray is composed of fine okoume wood, and it’s just generally a beautiful piece. Makes for a great gift for a cigar lover. This case and a good cigar lighter are all you need to smoke on vacation.

While you may not be able to pack a week’s worth of cigars for a road trip or your airplane carry-on, it’s a good almost pocket-sized transport humidor, and people will admire the way it looks.

The price range here is really wide. The manufacturer sells it for more than $240. While the materials and craftsmanship absolutely justify that price, you don’t really need to be pay retail. I’ve seen resale websites offering it for around $125. But I bought mine on sale from Famous-Smoke for $55 . You just have to be patient and look around and find a discounted price.

5 – Orleans International 3 Cigar Humidor Tube

Not everything on my list is functional and made of aluminum. This Orleans International 3 Cigar Humidor Tube is covered in leather, styled to look like either crocodile or ostrich. It’s neat-looking and would go better with formal attire than a typical bland humidor tube.

Not only does this little guy include humidification, but it also has a built-in hygrometer so you can easily check the status of your cigars. Most of the cases on this list lack a hygrometer, but Orleans International has stuffed one into this little travel case. That’s impressive.

It’s 2 inches wide and 7 inches deep, so plan accordingly. If you like big stogies, you obviously won’t get three of them in here. If you’re storing panatelas or cigarillos, you’ll probably get way more than three inside.

Orleans International sells this 3-cigar humidor tube for about $40 retail. You can find it online for under $30 . It’s a good buy at either price, but I’d always prefer to pay less.

6 – Private Stash Travel Humidor

I’m not a huge fan of humidors that you’re meant to stuff into your luggage. I prefer standalone devices with their own lock, latch, or clasp system. But not every travel humidor is made that way.

My favorite of these packable cigar travel cases is the Private Stash Travel Humidor. I like the materials first and foremost. It’s made of mahogany and feels luxurious to the touch. The clasp is strong it’s never opened up on me during my travels. I can fit 18-20 Robustos and I know they’ll be perfectly safe and humidified in the bottom of my carry-on or zipped into my checked baggage.

I love the Spanish cedar lining, which produces that lovely cigar box smell we all know and love. It’s inexpensive, so perfect for people just dipping their toe into the pool of cigar gadgetry. The 7-inch width means most cigar formats will fit, even if you can only get a few of them inside.

I bought my Private Stash Travel Humidor for under $20 at Famous-Smoke during a sale . I think the manufacturer charges about $30 retail. I sometimes see this brand in cigar shops, though the price is usually closer to retail than the sale price.

7 – XIKAR 10 Count Cigar Humidor

Here it is – my overall favorite cigar travel case for 2024. XIKAR’s 10-count Cigar Humidor.

XIKAR is probably the top brand in this space. You’ve seen these cases all over the place. They probably sell them in your local cigar shop. I see them all the time traveling for business, in airports and in checked bags, and everywhere else.

Put simply, these cases feel the most secure, with strong clasps, and materials that feel substantial and heavy to the touch. The 8.5-inch width is larger than a lot of travel cases, so our friends who like big cigars can store their stogies in peace.

The only thing missing is a humidification device. That’s not what this case is all about. You can absolutely add your own aftermarket product to help humidify your sticks, but this case is more about protection during travel, not long-term storage.

This case is $50 retail. I have found it on sale online for like $45 or so . Not a lot of discounts on products like this that represent the market standard. If you find a better price, let me know in the comments.

8- San Antonio Cigar Case

This one just came to my attention in February 2024, and it’s a beauty — especially for such an affordable price. ($50 as I write this.) Cigar Review | Moscow City w/ Moscow Mule

Before Hammer + Sickle got into the cigar business they were in the spirits business. Hammer + Sickle Vodka begins their process in the Black Earth region of central Russia where arctic temperatures produce an excellent crop. Every spring the wheat is harvested and shipped to their distillery in Klin where small batches of ultra smooth vodka are created.

With the addition of Ginger Beer with lime to their arsenal the ingredients for a Moscow Mule are readily available and the cigar we are going to pair it with today is the home of the Moscow Mule, Moscow City .

Best served chilled in a copper mug, Eric Hanson of Hammer + Sickle stopped by 2 Guys Smoke Shop to take us through the process.

The Look:  The Moscow City features an oily looking Connecticut Broadleaf that is seamlessly rolled with some significant tooth. The slightly oversized red band, with silver foil denotes the brand Hammer + Sickle, and the line Moscow City. Firm in hand, the foot is slightly porous with a nice weight.

The Notes:  The cold draw of the Moscow City reminds me a lot of a Henkle Kelner blended cigar with barnyard notes of hay and grass. The foot serves up notes of hay and wheat.

Once the cigar is lit the primary focal point of the cigar is dark earth and a slight sweetness. Once you sip the Moscow Mule with the Moscow City the cigar changes becoming sweet, and refreshing like the drink itself. The nose the cigar has a slight pepper note.

In the second third of the cigar, the Moscow City begins to take on a dark chocolate note that screams Connecticut Broadleaf and there is still a base note of earth, specifically wheat which works well with the Moscow Mule. As the second third comes to a close the chocolate notes dazzle the palate and I pour myself another Moscow Mule> Through the nose the cigar takes on a citrus like note bordering on lime.

The last third of the Moscow City from Hammer + Sickle becomes one with the Moscow Mule, the Ginger Beer and Lime goes puff and pour creating an enjoyable experience with a subtle pepper through the nose.

Moscow is a natural cigar-loving city, with 1.5 million cigars being sold per year. And there is still plenty of room for growth. The main reason for that Russia has no restrictions on smoking in public, so any bar can be easily transformed into a cigar bar. Russia is cigar heaven especially to American expats living here who can’t legally get ahold of a Cuban in the States. Georgia MPs snub president to back ‘Russian bill’

Parliament overrides veto to pave way for ‘foreign agents’ legislation despite huge public protests and Western criticism

Georgia’s parliament has voted to override a presidential veto of the “foreign agents” bill that has prompted huge public protests in the South Caucasus country.

It has ignored criticism from the West which says the legislation is authoritarian and Russian-inspired.

The vote on Tuesday to ignore the objections of Salome Zourabichvili, the Georgian president whose powers are mostly ceremonial, sets the stage for the speaker of parliament to sign the bill into law in the coming days.

Irakli Kobakhidze , Georgia’s prime minister, speaking at an Independence Day ceremony in central Tbilisi on Sunday, accused the pro-West president of treason .

Mr Kobakhidze took aim at Ms Zurabishvili, who was seated a few feet away, saying: “The unity of the people and the government has allowed us over the past two years to maintain peace in the country despite existential threats and various betrayals, including the betrayal of the president.”

The dispute about the newly-minted law has come to be seen as a key test of whether Georgia, for three decades among the most pro-Western of the Soviet Union’s successor states, would maintain its Western orientation, or pivot instead to Russia.

The bill would require organisations receiving more than 20 per cent of their funding from overseas to register as “agents of foreign influence”, while also introducing punitive fines for violations, as well as onerous disclosure requirements.

Opponents of the bill have for more than a month mounted some of the largest protests Georgia has seen since independence from Moscow in 1991 as the Soviet Union crumbled.

The United States, Britain and the European Union have all criticised the bill , which Georgian opposition groups have dubbed “the Russian law”, saying it is modelled on Russian legislation used to target opponents of Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin.

Russia is unpopular among many Georgians for its support of the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, with public opinion broadly supportive of membership in the EU and Nato.

The US has threatened to sanction Georgian officials who vote for the bill, a turnaround in US policy towards what had been among the most pro-Western countries to emerge from the Soviet Union.

The Georgian government has accused Western countries of blackmail over their opposition to the bill, and says that it is necessary in order to stop them from dragging Georgia into a war with Russia.

Russia denies any role in backing the bill, which it has defended from Western criticism.

Idaho murder suspect Bryan Kohberger appeared in a Latah County courtroom as part of his defense team’s efforts to compel prosecutors to reveal more of the evidence they plan to use in his upcoming trial.

The 29-year-old criminology PhD student is awaiting trial for the stabbing deaths of University of Idaho students Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, who were killed on November 13, 2022, at their off-campus house in Moscow .

Mr Kohberger’s defense team has claimed he was driving around looking at stars at the time of the murders and argue prosecutors have not handed all the evidence over for the defense to review, filing multiple motions to compel since Mr Kohberger’s arrest in late 2022 .

As Mr Kohberger looked on in silence, his public defender Anne Taylor grilled Moscow Police Detective Lawrence Mowery about a series of records related to cell phone data police plan to use in the case.

Ms Taylor said her team had only learned about the records. which captures police work from 2023 analyzing the phone data, this Wednesday.

“Those were things that existed for quite some time, is that correct?” she asked, later adding, “I want to know all the records you relied on, all of the emails, all the conversations you relied on to produce this thing.”

During his testimony, Detective Lawrence Mowery pushed back against the suggestion police were hiding something.

He described how the records merely show he was called upon in the spring of 2023 to analyze phone records using a data visualization program called CASTViz, information that was later presented to a grand jury.

The detective said that even though he didn’t save his work, the analysis could be quickly recreated.

“I didn’t delete anything,” he said, adding, “I can open the software, drag the CDRs [call detail records] back in, and in a very short time it’s generated.”

The hearing also concerned police efforts to look for evidence on Idaho transit cameras and windy.com, a weather site that temporarily displays shots from state transit feeds. The detective said that while police consulted these feeds as potential sources of evidence, they didn’t retain anything of value in the case.

Thursday’s hearing ended without a ruling on the motion to compel, and further proceedings are scheduled for 30 May, which will feature testimony from Leah Larkin and Bicka Barlow, two DNA experts called by the defense.

The wider evidence at issue in the case reportedly includes dashcam footage, video and audio recordings of a white sedan at the crime scene, and lab testing results – information police used to arrest Kohberger seven weeks after the murders.

Kohberger’s attorney said at a hearing earlier this month that the prosecutors are withholding evidence that the defense team should be privy to.

“The state knows full well what they have and what they’re withholding from us,” Ms Taylor said at the hearing. “We don’t know what they’re going to show, but we know they exist.”

The prosecution has argued it’s doing all it can to share evidence but is partially being delayed by federal rules, given the FBI’s involvement in the underlying investigation.

“The characterization that we’re just consciously withholding information to frustrate the defense is utter nonsense,” Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson said at a hearing earlier this month.

“They [the FBI] have been good partners, but they have their own rules to work with,” he added.

Kohberger was linked to the murders that rocked the college town of Moscow through DNA evidence, cell phone data, an eyewitness account and his white Hyundai Elantra.

But his team claims their client was out driving in the early morning hours of the night of the murders, and that he was in Pullman, which is about eight miles west of the 1122 King Road home.

“Mr Kohberger was out driving in the early morning hours of November 13, 2022; as he often did to hike and run and/or see the moon and stars,” Ms Taylor, the defense attorney, wrote in the court documents. “He drove throughout the area south of Pullman, Washington, west of Moscow, Idaho including Wawawai Park.”

In May 2023, Kohberger declined to enter a plea in the case, prompting the judge to enter his plea as not guilty.

Earlier this year, the Idaho Supreme Court denied a request from Kohberger for his grand jury indictment to be thrown out, citing a biased grand jury, inadmissible evidence and prosecutorial misconduct. But the Judge denied the motion.

Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty if he is convicted.

A trial date has not yet been set.
