How to Get Safari Back on iPhone (iOS 17)

What to know.

  • Typically, if Safari has disappeared, it most likely was just removed from the Home Screen.
  • Some users are reporting that there is a glitch that appears to delete the Safari app from your iPhone altogether.
  • To get it back, you must re-download the Safari app from the App Store.

Has your Safari app suddenly vanished into thin air? The good news is that you don't have the option to delete the native Safari app on your iPhone, so it has likely just been accidentally removed from your Home Screen. For this situation, we'll show you how to find the hidden app and move it back to your Home Screen. In rare cases, a software glitch can delete the app from your iPhone, so it will need to be re-installed. For either situation, let's cover how to get Safari back on your Home Screen.

Safari Disappeared from iPhone? Here’s How to Find It

Safari deleted re-install safari on iphone.

For most people, the missing Safari app has not been deleted, just removed from the Home Screen. Below, we'll show you how to find the app and move it back to your Home Screen by searching the App Library or by using Siri Search. Both methods will work if Safari has simply been removed from your Home Screen, so you can simply choose the option you prefer.

How to Put App Back on Home Screen Using the App Library

Here's how to add Safari to your Home Screen by searching the App Library:

iPhone Life

Your Safari app should now be added back to your Home Screen! If you're not familiar with the App Library, I recommend checking out this article on how to use the App Library . How to Add Safari to Home Screen Using Siri Search

If you prefer to avoid searching your App Library, you can also find the hidden app by using Siri Search. Here's how to add Safari to your iPhone Home Screen:

Open Spotlight Search

Adding the Safari app to your dock is optional, but it does make it more convenient to access Safari. Your dock displays up to four apps at any given time, and will appear at the bottom of each Home Screen.

If you were not able to find Safari using the solutions above, the app has likely been removed from your iPhone. Below, we'll show you how to re-download Safari from the App Store. If that fails, you may need to reset your Home Screen layout to get Safari back on your device.

Download Safari from the App Store

Here's how to re-install the Safari app on your iPhone so you can get it back on your Home Screen:

Open the App Store.

Reset Your Home Screen to Re-install Safari

If you were not able to find or re-install Safari using the steps above, this method will reset your iPhone’s Home Screen back to the factory version, which is how the Home Screen looks when setting your device up as new. Since Safari is one of the apps featured on the default Home Screen, this method will allow you to add Safari to your Home Screen.

Open the Settings app.

Hopefully, the solutions above worked, and you found adding Safari to your Home Screen to be a breeze! However, if the above solutions haven't worked, there might be a deeper issue with your device. In this case, I recommend contacting Apple Support or visiting the nearest Apple store for further assistance. If you're interested, I also recommend learning how to find your lost iPhone , even if the battery has died.

  • How do I get the Safari icon back on my iPhone?  If your Safari app was accidentally erased, you can get the app icon back on your iPhone by redownloading the Safari app from the app store. If your Safari app was simply removed from the Home Screen but not your device, you can just add the Safari icon back to your Home Screen by using the App Library.
  • Why did my Safari app disappear on my iPhone?   At the moment, it is unclear why this glitch is happening to some iPhone users. However, for the most part, if your Safari icon has disappeared, you can either redownload the app from the App Store or add it to your Home Screen again via the App Library.
  • Why can't I get Safari on my iPhone?  Sometimes people are unable to download apps and run into many other glitches and issues if their iOS is old or out of date. It's important for security reasons and for the overall smooth running of your device to keep it as up-to-date as possible. Check to see if your iPhone needs to be updated, and if so, check out this article on how to do it .

How to Get Safari Back on iPhone 13: A Step-by-Step Guide

Lost your Safari app on your iPhone 13? Don’t worry; getting it back is easy! Just follow these quick steps. First, check if the app is merely hidden or if the restrictions are turned on. If not, you can easily reinstall it from the App Store. And voila, you’ll have your trusted web browser back at your fingertips.

After completing the steps, the Safari app will reappear on your iPhone 13’s home screen or App Library, ready to use just like before.

Introduction

Have you ever found yourself in a pickle because the Safari app disappeared from your iPhone 13? You’re not alone. It’s a common issue that can happen for various reasons, such as accidentally deleting the app, restrictions being enabled, or the app being hidden in a folder somewhere. Safari is an essential part of the iPhone experience, allowing users to browse the web, save bookmarks, and sync across Apple devices.

Without Safari, completing simple tasks like checking emails or scrolling through your favorite websites can become quite a hassle. This article is specifically crafted for iPhone 13 users who have found themselves in this perplexing situation and need a simple, step-by-step guide to get Safari back. Whether you’re a tech newbie or just need a quick refresher, this guide will help you restore your access to the internet in no time.

Step by Step Tutorial to Get Safari Back on iPhone 13

Getting Safari back on your iPhone 13 is a straightforward process that will have you browsing in no time.

Step 1: Check Restrictions

First, go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.

If Content & Privacy Restrictions are turned on, there’s a chance they may be blocking the Safari app. Simply enter your Screen Time passcode, then go to Allowed Apps and ensure that Safari is toggled on. If it was off, turning it on should bring Safari back to your home screen.

Step 2: Search for Safari

Swipe down on the home screen and use the Search feature to look for Safari.

Sometimes, Safari might not be deleted but just hidden in a folder or on another page. The Search feature will help you locate it quickly. If it appears in the search results, you can open it from there, and it will tell you which folder it’s in so you can move it back to your home screen later.

Step 3: Reinstall from App Store

If steps 1 and 2 don’t work, open the App Store, search for Safari, and download it again.

If Safari was indeed deleted, it could easily be reinstalled from the App Store. Just search for it, and as it’s an Apple app, it should be the first result. Tap the download icon, and it will reinstall on your device. Once reinstalled, Safari will be back on your home screen or App Library.

Additional Information

When Safari disappears from your iPhone 13, it can feel like you’re cut off from the world wide web. But fear not! The solutions provided here are reliable and tested. Plus, once you get Safari back, you can take preventative steps to avoid future disappearances. For instance, you can rearrange your apps to keep Safari on the main home screen or the dock for easy access.

Another tip is to regularly backup your iPhone 13 either through iCloud or your computer. That way, if you ever need to restore your device, you won’t lose important data like your Safari bookmarks. Remember that while Safari might be the default browser for iPhone 13, other browser apps can be used in case Safari isn’t available for some reason.

  • Check Restrictions to ensure Safari isn’t being blocked.
  • Use the Search feature to find Safari in case it’s hidden.
  • Reinstall Safari from the App Store if necessary.

Getting Safari back on your iPhone 13 is usually a simple fix, and I trust this guide has armed you with the knowledge to do just that. How To Reinstall Safari On iPhone?

Safari is one of the most used web browsers in the world. It’s an integral part of iOS, and it comes preinstalled on all iPhones and iPads.

The Safari browser is safe, quick, and has a friendly interface.

If you can’t find Safari on your iPhone, however, you may have accidentally deleted it. If you’re wondering how to reinstall Safari on your iPhone, you’ve come to the right place.

Can You Uninstall Safari From an iPhone?

comment reinstaller safari iphone

Image by Jan Vašek from Pixabay

No. Safari is an integral part of the iPhone’s operating system, and there is no way to uninstall it like you can uninstall apps you download yourself from the App Store. The Safari browser is critical for the smooth operation of iOS.

However, there are ways to delete Safari from an iPhone without actually uninstalling it.

If you can’t find Safari on your phone, you may have deleted it in one of three ways:

  • You might have deleted it from the home screen, but it may still show up in the app library.
  • In addition to that, you may have made Chrome or another browser your default browser, so your phone is no longer using Safari to open web links.
  • Finally, if you can’t find Safari anywhere on your phone, even in the app library, you may have disabled it. It’s possible to do that in the Content & Privacy Restrictions settings of your iPhone.

If you’re using someone else’s phone, they may have accidentally restricted and disabled Safari.

Either way, it’s possible to get Safari to start showing up again.

I will go over the three scenarios above and explain how to fix each one. Let’s start with the first one.

How to Get Safari Back on Your Home Screen?

If you accidentally deleted Safari from your home screen, don’t worry. Getting it back on your home screen is pretty easy.

Start by going to your app library. You can do that by swiping left on your home screen until you pass all the “home screen pages” and arrive at your app library.

You will be able to find Safari in your “Utilities” folder.

comment reinstaller safari iphone

Open your Utilities folder, long-press on Safari, and then drag it to your home screen.

You can place it on any of your home screen pages or in the bottom bar that appears across all pages. There is only enough space for four apps on the bottom home screen bar.

If you can’t find your Utilities folder, use the search bar at the top of your app library to search for “Safari.” Once it shows up, long-press on it and drag it to your home screen.

How to Make Safari Your Default Browser?

If you made another browser your default browser, you can change that pretty easily.

To start, open your settings and scroll down until you see Safari. Apps will be divided into two sections: The preinstalled apps will come first, while third-party apps you downloaded later will show up on a different list.

Safari will show up on the first list. Apps will be listed in alphabetical order, to scroll until you find apps that start with S.

Then, click on “Safari.” At the top of your screen, you will see an option that says, “Default Browser App,” along with the app that you selected as the default browser.

Click on “Default Browser App” to see which browser is your default (in the screenshot below, it’s Chrome). Then, tap on “Safari” to select it as your default browser.

comment reinstaller safari iphone

Note that if you don’t see the “Default Browser App” option, it’s because Safari already is your default browser app.

How to Enable Safari After Disabling It in the Content Restrictions Settings?

Finally, if you couldn’t find Safari in the app library, it’s probably because it’s been disabled. It’s still installed on your phone, and it might still be working in the background to make sure iOS functions smoothly, but you won’t be able to open it and use it to browse the web directly.

To start, open your settings. Scroll down until you see “Screen Time.”

It will show up towards the top of your settings, after Notifications, Sounds, and Focus. Those options will show up after the main Wifi, Bluetooth, Cellular, and other connectivity settings.

Click on “Screen Time.” Then, scroll down a bit and click on “Content & Privacy Restrictions.”

Towards the top of your screen, click on “Allowed Apps.”

Find Safari towards the top of your screen. You may see it toggled off; toggle the switch to green to allow it again.

comment reinstaller safari iphone

Safari will start showing up again in the app library. Go to the app library and drag it to your home screen, as I explained above.

Note that if you or your parents set a passcode for the content restriction settings, you will need to enter that passcode after clicking on “Allowed Apps” before you can enable Safari.

If you set the passcode yourself but have forgotten it, you can recover it through your Apple ID. It’s a four-digit passcode, so it may be the same as your regular screen lock passcode if it’s a four-digit code as well.

What If There’s a Third-Party Parental Control App Blocking Safari?

Note that in addition to iPhone’s built-in parental controls (the Content & Privacy Restrictions settings), Safari may also be blocked by a third-party parental control app.

If that is the case, the process for unblocking Safari will depend on which parental control app is installed. You may need a password to unblock Safari and other blocked apps or to uninstall the parental control app altogether.

In that situation, you’ll have to get help from the person who installed the parental control app in the first place.

Alternatives to Safari

If you can’t recover the passcode you set for the Screen Time controls, or if there is a parental control app blocking access to Safari and which you can’t get around, there are other browser apps you can use as an alternative to Safari. That’s providing you didn’t block all web browsers.

You’ll need to be able to download additional apps. In the parental control settings, it’s possible to block all additional app downloads, so if app installs are blocked, you’ll still need the passcode to download other browsers.

Here are my top recommended alternatives to Safari for iPhone:

  • Google Chrome: Chrome has the largest market share of all web browsers. It’s fast and user-friendly .
  • Firefox: Firefox is another popular browser.
  • Firefox Focus: Firefox Focus is an excellent choice if you like Firefox but want additional privacy. It blocks trackers by default.
  • Opera : Opera is a fast, light browser based on Chromium.
  • Brave Browser : Brave is a browser focused on privacy, blocking ad trackers and loading web pages quickly.
  • DuckDuckGo: DuckDuckGo is a web browser and search engine that offers a higher level of privacy than Google, as it doesn’t track your activity.

Wrapping It Up: How to Reinstall Safari Back on an iPhone

While you can’t really uninstall Safari in the first place, you might have removed it from your home screen or disabled it.

You can enable it from your Privacy & Content Restrictions settings, although you may need to enter a passcode. You can also put it back on the home screen by finding it in the app library and dragging it back to the home screen.

Apple’s annual World Wide Developer Conference kicks off on Monday — and the company is expected to roll out a beta version of iOS 18 for select iPhones.

While iOS 18 won’t be accessible to everyone until fall, the first beta will reportedly be available to members of the Apple Developer Program immediately after Tim Cook’s WWDC keynote with a a public beta to follow in July, according to MacRumors.

The next big update, codenamed “Crystal,” features many bold changes that center around artificial intelligence.

Businessman using a 4th generation Apple iPhone

One of the most anticipated features in the newest update is an improved Siri that uses generative AI — the same technology used with ChatGPT that allows the platform to respond as if it’s a human.

Siri will reportedly be able to have natural sounding conversations and come up with personalized responses based on the user’s usage patterns.

AI could also be used to create “auto-generated playlists” in Apple Music, and RCS Support will be coming to iPhones as well. RCS, Rich Communication Services, is the successor to SMS and MMS.

The RCS Support will introduce several iMessage features that are already available for blue bubble users to texts between iPhone and Android users, including:

  • Higher-resolution photos and videos
  • Audio messages
  • Typing indicators
  • Read receipts
  • Wi-Fi messaging between iPhones and Android devices
  • Improved group chats, including the ability for iPhone users to leave a conversation that includes Android users
  • Improved encryption compared to SMS
  • Share location with people inside text threads

Apple CEO Tim Cook delivers remarks during an Apple special event on September 12, 2023 in Cupertino, California. Apple is set to unveil the new iPhone 15 and Apple Watch.

Though Apple typically allows iPhones five years’ worth of updates, an anonymous account on X, formerly Twitter, implied in a since-deleted tweet that iOS 18 could be compatible with phones that are eight years old.

According to MacRumors , these are the Apple products that could potentially enjoy the new update soon:

  • iPhone 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13 mini

Other key updates that have been rumored or tested for iOS 18, according to MacRumors , include:

  • Apple Maps : Custom routes and topographic maps.
  • Apple Music : Auto-generated playlists and smarter song transitions.
  • Apple News : AI-generated news article summaries.
  • Calculator : A sidebar that lists recent calculations, an improved interface for converting units, integration with the Notes app, and more. The app will also finally be available on iPads.
  • Calendar : Deeper integration with the Reminders app.
  • CarPlay : New accessibility features, including Sound Recognition.
  • Control Center : Updated interface, including a revamped music widget and improved controls for HomeKit accessories.
  • Fitness : The app will be “overhauled.”
  • Freeform : A new “Scenes” function.
  • Health : New features powered by AI — specific details are still unknown.

  • Keynote and Pages : AI-powered features for auto-generating slides in Keynote, writing faster in Pages, and more.
  • Magnifier : A new Reader Mode, and the option to easily launch Detection Mode with the Action button on newer iPhone models.
  • Mail : Suggested replies to emails.
  • Messages : RCS support, per-word effects, suggested replies, custom emoji and new Tapback icons. The update will also include message recaps, generating a summary for all missed messages in a conversation so the user can understand the context without having to go back and read it all.
  • Notes : A built-in audio recording tool, audio transcriptions, and the ability to display mathematical notation.
  • Notifications : AI-generated notification summaries.
  • Photos : AI-powered photo retouching, an AI object eraser and more.
