Hanoi Muslim travel guide

Can muslims travel to vietnam.

Yes, Muslims can travel to Vietnam. Vietnam is open to visitors of all religious backgrounds.

There are several mosques throughout the country where Muslims can practice their religion, and halal food is available in major cities.

However, it’s always recommended for any travellers to respect local customs and traditions.

Where is Muslim area in Hanoi?

The area known as “Hang Luoc Street” in Hanoi is often referred to as the Muslim area due to the presence of Al-Noor Mosque, which serves the Muslim community in the city.

However, Hanoi doesn’t have a designated Muslim neighborhood like some other cities. The Muslim population in Hanoi is relatively small, so there aren’t any areas predominantly populated by Muslims.

How many Muslims are in Hanoi?

The exact number is not readily available as religious demographics are not often detailed to the city level, and can also change over time.

However, it’s important to note that Vietnam has a relatively small Muslim population, estimated to be less than 0.1%. As the capital city, Hanoi likely has a portion of this population, but specific numbers may need to be more accurate.

It’s best to check the most current information with official census data or local resources.

Is it easy to find halal food in Hanoi?

Yes, it is relatively easy to find halal food in Hanoi. Several restaurants specifically cater to Muslim dietary requirements.

These restaurants include D’Lions Restaurant, Khazaana Indian Halal Restaurant, and Little India Restaurant.

However, double-checking with the restaurant about their halal status is always a good idea, especially if you have strict dietary needs.

Is Vietnam Muslim-friendly?

Yes, Vietnam is generally Muslim-friendly even though Islam is not the primary religion in the country. Vietnam is known for its tolerance and acceptance of different cultures and religions.

There are several mosques in major cities and Halal food is also available, especially in areas with many tourists.

However, finding halal food in less touristy areas may be harder.

As with travelling to any foreign country, it’s always advisable for Muslims to plan ahead and perhaps consider booking accommodation close to mosques or Halal-certified restaurants.

What are the safety considerations for Muslim travellers in Hanoi?

It’s no surprise that safety considerations should always be within your mind. So, let’s take a look at some essential safety tips for halal travellers in this busy city:

  • Always carry bottled water with you when out exploring – dehydration can sneak up on even experienced travellers in Vietnam!
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash, as pickpockets are common in popular tourist areas.
  • Please make sure you have adequate travel insurance before you begin any activities, such as motorbike tours or boat trips.
  • Research reputable taxis or car services if required, rather than hailing an unmarked cab off the street.
  • Please ensure your accommodation has secure locks and windows, and keep valuables away while inside.

It’s also worth noting that Vietnamese culture emphasises politeness and respect – familiarise yourself with these customs before travelling to ensure smooth interactions during your stay.

Be prepared to accept hospitality graciously, and remember to wrap up warmly if you are experiencing one of Hanoi’s cooler nights! After all, being safe doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort!

Staying safe while travelling should always encourage having an enjoyable time; following these few simple tips, you’ll soon feel like a resident in Hanoi without compromising your security or sense of well-being. And who knows?

After taking care to stay safe in Hanoi, next time, you’ll feel comfortable enough to venture further into rural Vietnam and experience all the incredible country has to offer!

Is there any cultural sensitivities for Muslim Travellers in Hanoi?

Visiting any new city can be daunting, but some extra considerations must be considered for Halal travellers heading to Hanoi. Being aware of safety and cultural sensitivities is essential for any trip to the Vietnamese capital.

Here we will explore these three critical elements for a successful journey:

  • Firstly, it’s essential to familiarise yourself with local customs; this includes researching what you should wear and how you should act when visiting certain places or engaging in activities. For instance, modest dress is expected in temples, mosques or other areas of worship.
  • Secondly, it pays to do your research on which eateries serve halal food and where they’re located; many restaurants offer vegetarian options too, so if all else fails, then at least you will stay hungry! Finally, take care when crossing roads, as traffic rules may differ from those at home – always use zebra crossings and look out for motorbikes!
  • Navigating an unfamiliar place can seem overwhelming at times – particularly when trying to adhere to religious protocols – however, being mindful of its culture goes a long way towards making your stay more enjoyable.

Remember to plan by checking the opening hours of attractions beforehand and keeping up-to-date with travel advisories relating to the area. This means having access to Wi-Fi hotspots or data roaming plans in case of emergencies! Taking time before leaving home also ensures that necessary items such as prayer mats or headscarves (if required) are remembered along the way.

Greeting locals with respect is another excellent way of showing sensitivity toward their culture and traditions; a simple ‘hello’ accompanied by a smile usually does the trick!

Asking questions about transport systems or tourist destinations shows genuine interest and can also help build connections between different cultures.

Doing all of this doesn’t just make our trips more manageable. Still, it helps us appreciate new experiences without compromising our beliefs – giving us peace of mind throughout our stay in Hanoi.

Tips before travelling to Hanoi as Muslim travellers

Here are some tips for you before travelling to Hanoi:

  • Research Halal Restaurants: Before you travel to Hanoi, research about the halal restaurants in the city as not every place serves halal food. The Old quarter area in Hanoi has some restaurants that serve halal food.
  • Dress Modestly: Respect the local culture and dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites. Women should cover their heads, arms, and legs when entering mosques.
  • Learn Some Basic Vietnamese: While a lot of people in Hanoi speak English, it would be beneficial to learn some basic Vietnamese phrases. This could especially be helpful when confirming if the food being served is halal.
  • Mosque Locations: There are a few mosques in Hanoi . The Al-Noor mosque and the Hanoi mosque are among the most known. If you plan on attending prayers, it would be helpful to know their locations and prayer times.
  • Stay Hydrated: Hanoi can get quite hot, especially during the summer months. Ensure you stay hydrated, especially if you’re fasting during Ramadan.
  • Check Travel Dates: If traveling during Ramadan, make sure to check the dates and plan your travel accordingly.
  • Book Accommodations in Advance: Hanoi can get quite busy, especially during peak tourist seasons. It’s recommended to book accommodations in advance, and preferably in areas close to halal restaurants and mosques.
  • Respect Local Traditions: While Vietnamese people are known for their tolerance and hospitality, it’s always good to respect local traditions and customs.
  • Use a Reliable Travel Agency: If you’re unsure about navigating the city or finding halal-friendly services, consider booking your trip through a reliable travel agency that caters to Muslims.
  • Stay Safe: Like any other travel destination, ensure you keep your belongings safe, avoid less crowded areas late at night, and have emergency contact numbers, such as the local embassy, on hand.
  • Have a Local Guide: If possible, hire a local guide who understands your needs as a Muslim traveller. They can assist you in finding halal food, locating mosques, and suggesting the best times to visit attractions.

Ultimate Guide To Hanoi For Muslim Travelers

Hanoi – the capital city of Vietnam is a very popular tourist destination. However, Muslim travellers often feel sceptical about visiting the city. After all, it is the capital of a non-Muslim country! Then again, Hanoi has plenty of facilities for Muslim travellers. As such, we decided to make a guide to Hanoi for Muslim travellers planning to visit this city.

Muslim-friendly hotels in Hanoi

If you’re an independent traveller, check our database of Muslim friendly hotels in Hanoi . Personally, I allowed myself to splurge on the four-star Sunway Hotel Hanoi as it has an in-house halal restaurant.

Sunway Hotel Hanoi

On the other hand, if you are a fan of hostels, you have multiple options there too. Don’t forget to look them up!

Halal food in Hanoi

Don’t worry too much about finding halal foods in Hanoi. In Hanoi, it’s not so difficult to find a halal restaurant. The Hoan Kiem District has a good collection of halal-certified restaurants. In general, most of the restaurants there serve Indian food. A few popular halal Indian restaurants in Hanoi are the Khazaana Restaurant, the Little India Restaurant, the Tandoor Restaurant Hanoi, etc.

Khazaana 1992 Indian Restaurant Hanoi

Yet, it’s not hard to find good eateries with e.g. Singaporean cuisine either. Drop by the D’Lions Restaurant who serves halal Singaporean Cuisine. Whereas, the Le Marrakech Restaurant in Tay Ho district is famous for its halal Moroccan dishes.

On top of that, Vietnam has a halal certification board. So, if you are looking to eat some ready-made foods, look at the package for halal certification. However, try to avoid the famous street food of Hanoi, as normally they’re not halal.

Place for Prayer

An Noor Mosque Hanoi

As a matter of fact, Vietnam is the home of a small population of Muslims living there. However, they’re not many in Hanoi and thus, the city has only one Mosque, the Al Noor Mosque along the Hang Luoc Street. It is also known as the mosque of Chan Community. While the mosque is not large, it’s beautiful.

Activities in Hanoi

We’ve written an article on free activities, listing some of the best (and free) sightseeing spots in Hanoi , including:

  • Walking around the gorgeous Hoan Kiem Lake
  • Exploring the Old Quarter
  • Crossing the historic Hanoi pedestrian bridge, and more!

Something missing in this Muslim guide to Hanoi?

Let us know in the comments! Are you travelling on the budget? We got a list of free activities in Vietnam you got to check out! Also, don’t forget to check out our list of 12 Vietnam destinations that should not be missed , if you’re still undecided which parts of the country to cover. Hanoi has 4 seasons in a year: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. It would be quite difficult to give a firm prediction of the weather in Hanoi. However, Autumn is always the best time to visit this capital city when the weather is cool and more relaxed than other time periods of the year. Also, leaves fall during these days so you have a chance to enjoy the beauty of Hanoi

How to Get in and around Hanoi

When arriving in Noi Bai Airport, there are 2 popular options for you to get to the center of Hanoi:

  • By public bus: Traveling by bus can save your cost but it takes longer time. You have to pay just around $1.8 and wait for 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to the old quarter.
  • Taxi: Taxi is preferred by most Muslim travelers. It takes about 45 minutes to get there and you can expect to pay VND 200.000 to VND 300.000 for the taxi driver.

To get around Hanoi during your stay, there are several means of transportation that you can choose from: public bus, motorbikes, or cyclo.

Best Things to Do in Hanoi for Muslim travelers

  • Enjoy Sunset on Long Bien Bridge : Among the places for watching sunset, Long Bien Bridge is the best one which attracts hundreds of visitors a day. Connecting 2 banks of the Red River, it is considered the symbol of the courageous capital in the wars. Though many decades have passed by, it is still there and shows its magnificent beauty, especially when the sun goes down. So if you have a chance to come to this bridge, don’t miss the amazing sunset here.

  • Walk around Hoan Kiem Lake : No visitors leave Hanoi without visiting the Hoan Kiem Lake, which is considered the center of Hanoi. This is where you can see many locals gather and take part in different activities such as jogging, fishing, and strolling. Walking around the Lake gives halal travelers in Hanoi to get to know more about the daily life of local people in the old quarters as well as join some traditional games there with them. Vietnamese people are very friendly so it is easy to start a conversation with them.

Walk around Hoan Kiem Lake - Must do thing for Muslim travelers to Hanoi

  • Try the Egg Coffee : If you are a fan of coffee and dessert, Hanoi egg coffee is a must-try. It is a kind of coffee with sweetened condensed milk, sugar, and whisked egg yolks. It would be a little hard to imagine but it tastes like creamy and soft meringue in your coffee and it is so yummy. The best place to try this coffee is Giang Cafe in Nguyen Huu Huan street.
  • Watch a Water Puppet Performance : Water puppet show is one of the most historically significant and entertaining shows in Hanoi. You may initially think that it is similar to other puppet shows that you have watched. But the difference is its antiquity with wooden and lacquered puppets. It is performed in water and there is a large bamboo rod to support and move the puppets on the water. Most of the water puppet shows represent the beauty of Vietnamese countryside and culture. Don’t miss your chance to enjoy a performance in the evening.
  • Go Shopping in the Weekend Night Market : Occupying some streets in the Old Quarter, the market is 3 kilometers long. You are free to wander around the market and shop for some souvenirs. The weekend market is open from 7 pm until late evening, attracting a large number of visitors from around the world. The best things to buy for your Muslim friends like postcards, ceramics, jewelries, and clothes, etc. can be found here.
  • Admire Tran Quoc Pagoda : Located on an island of the West Lake, Tran Quoc Pagoda is the oldest pagoda in Hanoi with more than 1500 years old. If you want to know more about the biggest religion in Vietnam – Buddhism, there is nowhere else better than this pagoda. Apart from religious knowledge, you also have a chance to understand its historical values as well as valuable treasures of culture and architecture.
  • Visit Al Noor Mosque in Hanoi : A great thing about Hanoi is that Muslim travelers in Hanoi can visit the Al Noor Mosque right in the Old Quarter area. Opened in early 19th century, it is the only mosque in Hanoi Vietnam where the Muslim can meet and satisfy their religious needs. Built in the typical Islamic style with the pinnacle, curved doors, and a dome, it is where the faithful should go to pray.

Where to Stay in Hanoi

Visited by so many visitors each day, Hanoi has plenty of hostels and hotels with different ranges of renting fee and quality. That’s why halal travelers find it hard to choose one to stay during your trip. Here is a list of the best areas to stay in the city. Let’s check it out:

  • Hoan Kiem (or Old Quarter area): Most of Muslim travelers choose this area to stay. It is actually a convenient but expensive area. From here, you can easily reach other tourist attractions like traditional shops, temples, and old gates. Some are even located within walking distance. The center is considered the historic soul of the capital which will give you a great convenient and cultural experience.
  • Truc Bach : Though there are less accommodation options, this area is an ideal place for those who are looking for a peaceful atmosphere and lakeside relaxation. It is just about 5 to 10 minutes to drive from here to the Old Quarter and Ba Dinh district. You should consider staying in Truc Bach if you look for a quieter and laid back vibe.
  • Hai Ba Trung : If you want to get more market experience, don’t forget to check out Hai Ba Trung. The place offers great food, and a typical daily life of Hanoian. There are also lots of bars and pubs to rewind found in this area. So, if you want to stay in Hanoi for an extended stay, Hai Ba Trung is highly recommended.

Hanoi travel tips for Muslim travelers

To make your trip to Hanoi easier, we will give you some tips as below:

  • Plan your itinerary well: Hanoi could be listed as a tricky place to visit. You may find out that there are so many places to visit and so many things to do. However, don’t force everything on your itinerary. It’s better to read the reviews carefully and choose your most favorite things to mention in your itinerary.
  • To avoid petty theft and pick-pocking, it’s better not to bring lots of cash. Keep your valuable items like jewelry at your hotel.
  • Though Hanoi is quite peaceful and safe, there are still scams. So, you should do some research carefully before contacting a travel agent and booking a tour. Also, be sure to count your change. Sometimes, halal travelers tend to mistakenly pay the wrong change. For example, some pay VND 200,000 instead of VND 20,000.
  • If you want to save your money, bargaining skills are a must. And, you can try street foods which are quite delicious and their prices are reasonable. Or, you can ask your hotel staff for advice on where to go and eat. As they are local people, they know every corner of Hanoi and their advice is worth listening to.

Excellent Muslim Cruise in Halong Bay & Cat Ba, Vietnam We had a great experience on Mon Cheri cruise. Group of 4 travelled during January 2023. We stayed on the Mon Cheri 1 boat for two nights and had an absolutely amazing time. Everything from start to finish was fantastic. The boat is amazing, very spacious, clean, nicely designed. The staff are amazing and very helpful. The food is outstanding and there’s loads of it! Buffet breakfast and lunch and set menu evening meals. We travelled for 4 weeks and some of the best food we had was on this boat. The itinerary is well thought out and flows well. The rooms are amazing. Best part of our whole 4-week trip. Definitely recommend Vietnam Muslim Tours – Asia Travel Expert Co., Ltd arranging this trip & also recommend staying for 2 nights rather than 1 on this cruise in Halong Bay! Thank you!

7 Halal Eateries In Hanoi That You Can’t Miss

avatar-name

Cheng Sim  •  Nov 06, 2023

After hours of cruising above the clouds, you've finally landed in Hanoi. Never mind that it took forever to get your luggage from the carousel because your excitement is mightier than your worries. There’s so much to do! You have the Old Quarter to explore and the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre to catch but first, you have to fuel up.

In a city where Muslim-friendly restaurants aren’t as thriving as their Southeast Asian neighbours, discovering the halal side of Hanoi is part of the city’s big adventure!

1. d’Lions Restaurant

hanoi muslim travel

Credit: d'Lions Restaurant

Having Singaporean and Malaysian food in Hanoi may seem like an odd choice but that’s part of the perks of dining in Southeast Asia. From claypots and curries to noodles and vegetarian, their menu is pretty easy to navigate for folks with a hefty appetite. If you’re new to this category of dishes, everything from the flavourful Malaysian nasi lemak and mee goreng to spicy Singaporean chilli crab make fantastic introductions.

hanoi muslim travel

A dash of Vietnamese elements on your table is a must, so make space for their traditional pho (chicken or beef noodle soup), fresh goi cuon (spring roll), nem chua be (fried spring roll) and stir-fried beef.

#HHWT Tip: The restaurant provides takeaways and delivery services.

Halal status: Halal meat available, alcohol served in establishment. We recommend that you dine at your own discretion.

2. Namaste Hanoi

Swap your Vietnamese greetings with ‘namaste’ in this Indian restaurant situated in the heart of Hanoi city. With a menu adorned with Hyderabad and Gujarat influences, expect a full-course of authentic Indian flavours.

hanoi muslim travel

Credit: Kim Giang

We recommend crispy appalam (lentil crackers) for starters before diving into a choice of curries such as the tasty chicken masala dosa and mutton rajma masala for an introduction to North and South Indian flavours. If you’re stuck in your room (Vietnamese local dramas can be addictive), the restaurant is more than happy to deliver to your hotel. Our suggestion for TV dinner: the grilled goodness of mutton seekh kebab with a side of chicken lollypop.

3. Nan N Kabab

Let your taste buds explore the realm of Pakistani, Middle Eastern and Afghani flavours with your foot firmly rested on Hanoi grounds at Nan N Kabab. True to its name, their speciality in freshly baked naan and grilled kebab is well-noted by the Muslim and expat community here.

Barbecues are what everyone is having at this rustic restaurant (aside from vegetarian fare), so we encourage you to dine outdoors. Whether it’s the savoury chicken reshmi or the spicy mutton seekh kabab that interests you, a day at Nan N Kabab is a good opportunity to take on Arabic and Afghani dishes like lamb handi and peshawari chapli kebab. Lastly, wash it all down with a glass of warm Pakistani tea.

Take a well-deserved break at giao mùa , a charming cafe that offers panoramic views of the city! We love its quirky Gaudi-esque exterior and its variety of drinks and sweet treats for you to enjoy.

Hop onto (and off) the rails at Train Street

3-Day Hanoi Itinerary: Best Things To Do In Hanoi

No trip to Hanoi is complete without a visit to the Train Street ! Here, train tracks run just inches from the local homes and shops. From a distance it can look pretty surreal, almost like a scene from a Ghibli movie. Grab a seat at one of the quaint cafes lining the tracks and standby for when the train passes through!

💡 There is a second train street located between Tran Phu and Dien Bien Phu that is less crowded, and takes you even closer (yes, you read that right) to the action!

Swap out the street food at Pizza 4Ps

3-Day Hanoi Itinerary: Best Things To Do In Hanoi

We know that pizza may feel like an odd choice, especially when you’re in Vietnam. But hear us out! Pizza 4Ps is a cult favourite here in Hanoi, with several branches country-wide. We recommend the seafood okonomiyaki and the burrata parma ham pizza, which are both *chefs kiss*. Wash it all down with a pint of one of their house-brand brews, and don’t forget dessert!

After spending an afternoon out and about, an evening of relaxation and delicious cocktails is in order! Make your way down to Bee’znees Speakeasy , an art deco-inspired cocktail bar that’s been creating a considerable buzz in Hanoi’s nightlife.

The menu is equal parts diverse and unique, with classic cocktails that pay homage to the prohibition era, and tipples that make use of seasonal Vietnamese herbs and fruits — giving you a taste of the city unlike before. If you’re lucky, you may get the chance to try out their limited-time specials or even be part of their themed nights!

With day 1 done and dusted, it’s time to explore Hanoi beyond the Old Quarters.

Enjoy a classic brekkie at Hanoi Social Club

3-Day Hanoi Itinerary: Best Things To Do In Hanoi

Another day, another delicious start to the morning! For those who prefer the typical Western breakfast, Hanoi Social Club answers the call. This cosy cafe is housed in a 1920s French colonial villa, and is inspired by the Melbourne cafe scene — so you already know that it passes the vibe check. Its extensive menu serves up the usual suspects like avocado toast and fluffy French toast. Plus, if you’re looking for vegan and vegetarian food in Hanoi, this is the place to be!

💡 If you’re looking to immerse in the local music scene, check out their Instagram for their weekly Tiny Music Club feature — where up-and-coming musicians get to play their tunes live every Tuesday.

A quiet respite from the hustle at One Pillar Pagoda

3-Day Hanoi Itinerary: Best Things To Do In Hanoi

While the bustle is what makes Hanoi so charming, a quiet morning can do wonders for the soul. After a hearty breakfast, make your way down to the One Pillar Pagoda , a unique and gorgeous sight not to be missed. This Buddhist temple is meant to represent a lotus blossom, with plenty of thought going into its unique architecture. Spend some time wandering around the grounds before making your way to West Lake , the city’s largest lake, for a leisurely slow or even scenic bike ride!

Caffeinate the Vietnamese way at Cafe Dinh

3-Day Hanoi Itinerary: Best Things To Do In Hanoi

Your trip to Hanoi wouldn’t be complete without some egg coffee! Fuel up for the rest of the afternoon with this rich and creamy staple. For those who haven’t had a taste, it’s reminiscent of a creme brulee, making it a deliciously decadent perk-me-up. While there are plenty of great cafes that serve this drink, we think the one at Cafe Dinh serves the best. If you’re looking for a slow afternoon, try to snag a seat by the window and watch the world go by.

Tap into your artsy side at Hanoi Opera House

Then, it’s time for more culture! This time, make your way down to the Hanoi Opera House , an architectural marvel that is also home to some of Hanoi’s finest cultural performances. Take a guided tour around the area, or catch a show to appreciate and experience the vibrant arts scene. We’d recommend making a reservation in advance to avoid any disappointment!

Experience the bustle of Hanoi

3-Day Hanoi Itinerary: Best Things To Do In Hanoi

After a slow afternoon, it’s time to pick up the pace and dive right back into the world of vibrant markets and delicious street food! Begin at Dong Xuan Market , the city’s largest indoor market which offers a wide variety of local produce and traditional crafts. The layout is reminiscent of Tekka Centre here in Singapore, and has been divided into different sections for ease of exploration!

After spending some time here (and maybe even bringing home some souvenirs for your loved ones), make your way to the Hanoi Night Market where you’ll get to try out the different types of street food in one place. We recommend the Old Quarter Weekend Night Market as it’s the O.G., but if your trip doesn’t happen over the weekend, then the Nha Xanh Night Market is a great alternative that’s open daily.

Chow down at Bun Cha Dac Kim

3-Day Hanoi Itinerary: Best Things To Do In Hanoi

If you’re still feeling hungry, head over to the unassuming Bun Cha Dac Kim for a bowl (or two) of bun cha, a vermicelli noodle with grilled pork dish. The star of the show is the light broth, juicy pork, and the fried-to-perfection crab spring rolls. This Michelin-approved establishment serves up some of the city’s best, so be prepared to wait in line!

We love that Hanoi offers up a variety of experiences for all sorts of travellers. On your second day, it’s time to strip away the pomp and pageantry. Head over to Ta Hien Street a.k.a. Beer Street, grab a stool and pair your pints with some skewers and barbecued seafood. Who knows — you may end up making friends with your table mates as you dine elbow to elbow!

Day 3 — Shopping!

Take things slow on your last day, and maybe use this time to get your last-minute shopping done!

Start the day with a delicious sandwich at Banh Mi Long Hoi

3-Day Hanoi Itinerary: Best Things To Do In Hanoi

Kickstart your morning with a delicious banh mi from Banh Mi Long Hoi , a must-try before concluding your trip. This popular shop offers a wide variety of sandwiches, but our favourite has to be the ‘Successful’ Bread, which is stuffed with pate, char siu, meatballs, grilled meat, and a variety of herbs. If you want something a little lighter, then opt for the ‘Lucky’ Bread which comes with considerably fewer ingredients, but tastes just as good.

Address:  1 P. Hàng Dầu, Hàng Bạc, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội 100000, Vietnam

Explore a centuries-old village at Bat Trang Pottery Village

3-Day Hanoi Itinerary: Best Things To Do In Hanoi

Make your way to one of the oldest ceramic-making villages in Vietnam. Bat Trang Pottery Village was established sometime during the 14th or 15th century, and is known for some of the finest craftsmanship there is. Spend some time wandering through the ancient village, and if time permits, try your hand at building a ceramic piece to call your own. If you’re a purveyor of the finer things, there are plenty of shops selling these gorgeous ceramic wares for you to take home.

Coffee with a side of… salt?

3-Day Hanoi Itinerary: Best Things To Do In Hanoi

After spending an afternoon with these artisans, head back to the main city centre for a cuppa. There are plenty of options when it comes to Vietnamese Coffee, and another emerging favourite is the salt coffee. While it may sound odd, it’s really all about finding the perfect balance in a brew! The salt supposedly helps to heighten the sweetness of the coffee, making it more mellow and well-rounded. The one at Salt Mate is known to be one of the more popular stalls selling this drink.

Address: 5 P. Lý Thái Tổ, Lý Thái Tổ, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội, Vietnam

Opening Hours: 7:30 AM – 10:30 PM, daily.

Get your last-minute shopping done!

3-Day Hanoi Itinerary: Best Things To Do In Hanoi

It’s not too late to shop till you drop! While you can find a wide variety of interesting shops in almost every part of Hanoi, we’d recommend P. Ba Trieu Street for its wide variety of boutiques (perfect for corporate girlies and the like), and Dong Cac Street for its popular thrift shops.

If you’re looking for fun and unique gifts that are quite uniquely Vietnamese, check out Liu Lo for its wide variety of fun and cutesy items created by local designers! They even run workshops, so if you’re lucky, you might be able to snag a spot.

End the night on a presidential note at Bun Cha Huong Lien

There’s nothing more poetic than wrapping up your Hanoi adventure with one of the most sought-after tourist experiences here in Hanoi. Grab dinner at Bun Cha Huong Lien , the spot made famous by President Obama and Anthony Bourdain. Savour the iconic bun cha Obama, and maybe even take a photo with the glass box that features (and preserves) the table and chairs used by the duo.

Address: 24 P. Lê Văn Hưu, Phan Chu Trinh, Hai Bà Trưng, Hà Nội, Vietnam

Opening Hours: 8am – 8pm, daily.
