Each school planning for trips is as a recreational and educational way, supervised by social workers and school supervisors, who planning visits, ticketing, bus booking, etc.

I went on a school trip to (name of the city) of (Governorate name). of (city area in km) and (population number) approximately.

I prepared my small bag and put sandwiches, juice and water for the trip. I went to sleep early to wake up early to be full of energy on the journey.

We rode the bus in front of the school in the early morning and we left our parents and friends who did not come with us.

The bus driver displayed a documentary about the city we were going to visit and the tour supervisor told us about the directions and instructions we should follow and how to act in case of lost. He provided us emergency numbers and asked us to write them in a paper and keep in our pocket.

We arrived at our destination and started visiting the (museum name) which is a large museum featuring many important items that tell us the history of the city.

Then we went to visit the open museum which is an open area with many beautiful items.

Then we went to visit the important landmarks of the city.

The last stop of the trip was to visit the amusement park, a recreational city with lots of games.

The supervisor gave us two hours to enjoy our time, play the games we want and assemble before the door of the amusement park in preparation for riding the bus and back to our city.

We gathered two hours later in front of the amusement park door, the supervisor checked everyone’s presence and then we boarded the bus and returned to our city.

It was a beautiful day we enjoyed it a lot and we saw many of the city’s famous sights.

We learned a lot about its history and the history of its inhabitants.

Finally, we reached our city late at night. Our families were waiting for us.

How students at an unusual school think—and write—about their experience.

In January, I visited the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, a public residential high school in Greenville. Artistically talented students from around the state spend two or three of their high school years in dedicated pursuit of their art—dance, drama, music, visual arts, or creative writing—along with their academic curriculum. I wrote about it here .

I asked Scott Gould, a creative writing teacher at the school, if he would ask his students to write me a short essay about their school. This was a wide-open request; I wanted to hear whatever perspective the students wanted to offer about their experience at the school. Among the essays the students submitted, here are three of my favorites, unedited and untouched. I’d like to share them with you.

The first is by Cameron Messinides, a junior from Camden, SC:

Long-Distance My mother called on Sunday to tell me our herd of goats, previously twenty-one strong, had been reduced to three. Two feral dogs squeezed through a hole in the pasture fence and killed anything they could catch. My parents and brother arrived during the massacre. My father jumped the fence to chase the dogs and shot the slower one with a pistol. On his way back, he heard a few scattered bleats and followed the sounds. In a gully, he found two billies and the last nanny. They had survived by shoving themselves into an abandoned chicken coop. Afterwards, my family walked among the carcasses--once white, now bloodstained and caked with rain-softened clay. We wanted to find life, my mother said. They gave up at four in the afternoon, and my father and brother made a pile of the bodies in the woods, to be buried later. Phone calls like this are common now. I've been in a boarding school since August, and every weekend my mother seems to find something new to break to me. It's not always bad. The weekend before, she called to tell me my brother enrolled in a birding retreat on the South Carolina coastline. And before that, she told me about the new color she picked for the living room walls. I'm still not used to this kind of communication. I miss immediacy. A year ago, when I still lived with them, I would know all this. She wouldn't have to tell me two or three days later. I'd like to say I've adjusted, but I haven't. The Wednesday after the goats died, she called again. She told me she couldn't shake what she had seen. She worried. Would the dogs' owner show up? How about the surviving dog? What if he came back? She hadn't been sleeping, and when she did, she dreamt of the bloody bodies, the torn sides of a billy, the kids crushed into the mud. I told her I knew how she felt, but I don't. I don't think it's possible. She sent me only one picture of the scene, a close-up of the surviving nanny's nose, ripped open by the dog's teeth. The rest I have to imagine. I imagine the dogs—Brown? Black?—chasing the herd across a winter field, hooves and paws tearing up dead grass. I imagine stumbling kids. I imagine the deputy who arrived a few hours later, gray-haired and perhaps a slow talker. None of it is certain. I still sleep easily. That's the cost of our separation: her anxieties don't travel the phone lines, and I can't make myself care. But I want to care. Some days I only want to be home, in the ranch-style with green siding and the stump in the front yard, which is the only remnant of the rotting oak my family cut down without me. I'd walk to the pasture with my father, take the shovel he offers me, and dig with him, shoulder-to-shoulder, a hole big enough to put all eighteen dead goats under three or four feet of orange clay. Then, we return home, and I sit in the living room next to my mother, tell her she can sleep now. Even hours into the night, after she has gone to bed, I sit, surrounded by lamplight and the color of the freshly-painted walls, three coats of Townhouse Tan, and listen to my brothers. They lie side-by-side on the hearth, birder's guidebook open before them, and take turns whispering names to each other: bobwhite, cardinal, tufted titmouse.

Florentine In the heart of South Carolina, the railroad tracks converge over swampland, and fields are laced with cotton in the Dog Days of early August. The summer heat rolls in, unstoppable and rests between cypress knees and Spanish moss. The place can’t decide what to be: it’s one-third urban, one-third rural, and one-third swamp. The people seem to fall victim to a cycle of poverty, of being at sixteen what their parents were at eighteen, what their own children will be at fourteen. It’s not easy to get out. The place is called Florence, and I lived there for sixteen years before moving three hours away to study creative writing at a boarding school. In upstate South Carolina is the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. It’s situated just off Greenville’s downtown area, with Reedy River Falls Park in the school’s backyard. Downtown Greenville is an arts community, with performing centers and theaters, galleries, art festivals and craft fairs, and restaurants willing to provide venues for writing club readings or jazz band performances. Not only is the atmosphere different, but the entire landscape: from my dorm room, I can see the hazy silhouette of mountains. At the Governor’s School, I’ve studied under excellent teachers. I’ve been exposed to new authors and genres, learned to be curious, analytical, to believe in the deliberation of every line of poetry and each line of dialogue in a short story. I’ve learned to put my personal life into artistic context with the help of professionals. I’ve learned to become aware. To make something strange, beautiful, something important. And, something particularly valuable to me because of my immense pride in my hometown, I’ve learned to appreciate a strong sense of setting, the way characters can function in so many complex ways. I’ve learned how to convey Florence in words. Governor’s School has provided me with the training to write about the content that I grew up with, the material I naturally have to offer. Every story I write takes place in some type of Florence, with its tangible sensation of heat trapped in the swamp, the perpetual presence of desperation. All of my characters are based on Florentines: single mothers I’ve met at work, the mysterious neighbor who passed out already-opened Halloween candy, or the woman who showed up to church drinking hairspray. Going home on breaks, or for the summer, has altered my perspective of Florence. Instead of seeing tragic figures living in a never-changing place, I see characters full of complexities living in a place as undecided as they are. Once, the chain-link fence covered in hubcaps was ugly. But now I see it as armor, protecting the women on the porch, who sip sweet tea and watch another fistfight unfold in the street, those men who wordlessly understand the ritual required to live here.

Finally, by Jackson Trice, a senior from Simpsonville, SC:

Outside the Lines I forget how strange my school sounds to the rest of the world until I leave it. On a card at the front desk inside a college admissions building, I am told to write the name of my high school. The full name, South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, does not fit on the dotted line, and I have to draw an arrow to the back of the card, and write the rest there. When I say my school’s name out loud to family members, it sounds prestigious, almost regal. But on the first day of school here it is made clear that I was chosen based on potential, and not necessarily talent. It’s this ego smashing that happens throughout junior year that creates the atmosphere of Governor’s School. You don’t get “good,” you just make progress. You are not special, you’ve just been given an excellent opportunity. I don’t know how much Governor’s School has changed me until I meet up with friends from my old school at a football game during fall break. I live in Simpsonville, South Carolina only a fifteen minute drive from downtown Greenville. Still, all these kids know about my school are rumors. “I’ve heard the dancers are super catty,” one says. “I’ve heard there’s, like, crazy amounts of sex.” I answer, “Sometimes,” and “That’s a good joke,” respectively. I try to explain to them that yes, I have real school work on top of art work. No, I can’t have a boy in my dorm room—I can’t even have Advil. Hey, hey, there are a few republicans. Like, two, maybe? I quickly realize that the magic of this school is lost as soon as I try and pin words to it. I stop coming home for Friday night football games. I choose, instead, to stay on campus. There are two creative writing classrooms that make up our department. Each is packed with books and long desks and computers. Only creative writers are allowed in these rooms, and there’s a giddiness in the seclusion of it. Monday through Thursday, we stay in the rooms after hours to get work done, but on Fridays, we kick our shoes off and run around to celebrate the weekend. We lay on the desks and talk to each other and laugh until our sides ache. We share secrets and stories and we belong to these rooms, to the spines of our favorite books on the bookshelves. We belong to each other. There are, of course, the nights when AP Chemistry keeps me up until four in the morning. There are the days where workshop is brutal, and I never want to write another word again. There are those scary moments where I feel that the pressure is too much and I fantasize about going to regular school. Maybe then, I could learn to drive, go to real high school parties, eat my mother’s delicious food anytime I wanted. But then there’s a drama student playing guitar in the academic stairwell. The sound of his voice spins up the flights of stairs, bouncing off walls in wistful echoes. It calms me. There’s hot chocolate at the Starbucks across the street, and there’s the beauty of that street, which is lined with small trees dressed up in white Christmas lights, illuminating the sidewalk. There’s my friend who sits with me inside Starbucks and talks about Rilke and Miley Cyrus with equal insight and tenacity. When I return, there’s a group of students outside the residential life building, blocking the doors. They’re all dancing, and singing to the beat of their clapping hands, stomping feet: “You have to dance to pass. Dance, dance, to pass.” And because I can sense that there is something wonderfully magical about this place, I feel that I must obey them. It is only necessary. I am a terrible dancer, but in this moment, I dance shamelessly. When the crowd is satisfied with my moves, they cheer, and finally part, letting me into the building, welcoming me home.

How to Turn College Visits into Why College Essays

We all know campus visits are an important part of applying to college – they can give students and families a “feel” for a school and provide insight that is not possible to gain elsewhere. 

But what most students do not consider when visiting colleges is how their visit can help them take their admissions essays from standard to stellar.

Numerous colleges require what’s called a “Why College” essay. These essays essentially ask you to explain why that particular school is a great fit for your needs.

While that sounds straightforward enough, there are many variations of these questions. Paying attention to these prompts and tailoring your essay accordingly is key. 

It’s a good idea, when planning a college visit, to look up whether that school has a Why College essay and to keep that prompt in mind when preparing for a visit. If you don’t know which essays colleges require, reach out to us!

For the purposes of this blog, a few examples of Why College prompts include:

University of Pennsylvania  

• How will you explore your intellectual and academic interests at the University of Pennsylvania? Please answer this question given the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying.

University of Michigan  

• Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests?

Syracuse University

• Who or what influenced you to apply to Syracuse University?

Details make a Why College essay stand out. You need to be able to show a college why you are interested. But most students stop at simply telling a school that they are interested in broad generic terms. 

Some of the key errors:

• Regurgitating copy from marketing materials
• Describing a college’s own programs to them
• Reciting statistics and rankings
• Recapping superficial observations, like “everyone was smiling”
• Listing facts from Fiske or U.S. News and World Report

Campus visits can be a key step in enhancing the Why College essay because they can help you paint a more vivid and personal picture of how you see yourself fitting in on campus.

Below are tips on how to maximize your college visit – whether or not you are preparing for the Why College essays you will have to write.

Research Beforehand

Arrive on campus with a plan. What academic programs and student groups do you want to learn more about? Maybe send an email to a student club leader if their contact is available so you can set up a coffee to learn more.

What professors do you want to meet with? Again, send them an email in advance to set a time to visit a class or office hours.

What landmarks and sites on campus do you most want to see?

One student of ours wrote about meeting with Dr. Beth Wee at Tulane to learn more about the different engineering paths he could take. What stuck out? The fact that Dr. Wee allowed a meeting with an advisee to go twenty minutes long, delaying the student’s own meeting. Dr. Wee’s dedication to her students and generosity with her time attracted the student to Tulane.

Another student wrote in his “Why Carnegie Mellon” essay (back when they had one) about wanting to see the penguin-patterned guardrail of the Pausch Bridge lit up at night. He used that vantage point to paint a deeply personal picture of the campus as it seemed to him in that moment.

Take Good Notes… on Everything

Apart from helping you compare and contrast schools as you decide where to apply and attend, thorough notes will be invaluable when you sit down to explain why you want to attend a certain college.

Jot notes down in a notebook. (Avoid your phone so you don’t get distracted by texts and other apps.) Stay engaged in the visit – you never know who you may meet and who may notice you not paying attention.

Of course, you should take note of anything that sticks out as important or relevant to you personally. What student organizations and activities do you see yourself participating in? What majors and academic programs attract you most? What unique learning opportunities does this school offer outside of the classroom?

Take notes on all the little things, too: the names of your tour guide and any professors, students, and admissions officers you meet with; fun facts; and quirky little things you like or dislike about the school. Small details like these may seem insignificant, but over the course of your entire essay, they convey a vividness and authenticity to your experience.

A Note about Academic Plans

Academics tend to make up the backbone of most “Why College” essays, so focus your note-taking on these areas as they relate to your goals and mission statement for your college education and experience. 

If you are undecided about your academic plans, remember that you do not have to have a clear major to have academic interests. There is no penalty for being undecided. Admissions officers are looking for students who are intellectually curious and excited, even if they are unsure about their career path. 

Other avenues for undecided students to consider are asking admissions representatives and students about what support systems, resources, and programs there are for students who are still figuring out what they want to pursue for majors and minors. (For instance, Northwestern prides itself on its quarter system , which is great for students who want to explore more classes.)

If you do have a prospective major, reach out to that department before your visit to see if you can sit in on a class, meet with a professor, or visit a research lab.

And of course, continue your research at home!

Go Beyond the Tour and Info Session(s)

Visit a building that your tour does not go through – assuming you are allowed in! Try a popular lunch spot on campus. 

Whenever possible, speak with current students and take note of those specific interactions and conversations—how a student responds to your questions can convey a lot about the atmosphere and the community of a school. 

Don’t be shy! Many students (especially your tour guide!) are eager to share their experiences with visitors. If you would be more comfortable doing this without mom or dad, ask for some space to explore. 

Prepare a List of Great Questions 

Starting conversations with students, professors, or admissions representatives is easier if you set yourself up for success by preparing a mental list of good questions to ask. 

If your question could easily be answered from a quick Google search, then that is not a good question.

To come up with good questions, research the school beforehand and consider your priorities—what aspects of campus life are most important to you? From asking about specific internship opportunities to investigating the details of dorm life, these conversations will give you a more holistic feel for the school and provide excellent fodder for a potential Why College essay. Or, ask questions that only that person can answer: What are the highlights of your experience? What do you wish you knew when you were applying? 

Just as important as asking your own questions is listening to questions from others on your tour. You are not going to think of everything – and you don’t have to! Let other people’s curiosity inform you, and you may just be surprised by what you will learn.

Your “Why College” essay will not necessarily revolve solely around your tour, but your firsthand account of your own time on campus will add valuable insight to your writing.

The primary goal of your campus visit should be to get information about how interested you are in the school. At the same time, if you can leverage it to improve your application essays, even better!

All we do in the entire day is to attend the classes and to do the homework. But once school life gets over, the students realise that school life was the best time of their life.

Apart from learning great things in school, you make new friends, play different sports and create memories for the rest of your life. The students also learn many life skills like teamwork, good manners, etc., and understand what they want to become in their life.

About My School and School Life

I study in the reputed private school in my city, and I am glad to be a student of this school. My school is one of the most renowned schools in my town. It is very beautiful and huge. My school has all the facilities for sports, study and other activities. Built-in a three-storey building, it is a Co-Ed and Senior Secondary School having Science, Arts and Commerce stream. The atmosphere at my school is delightful. We have a huge playing ground where we all students play different games like Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, etc. We have a separate Basketball and Tennis court, as well as a small and beautiful garden for kids.

The students practice these sports every day. The school also has a big swimming pool and sports area for indoor games. In this area, the students can play Table Tennis and Chess. There is also a big skating rink. Different physical training teachers train us for all these sports. These sports not only keep us fit but also increase our stamina and coordination.

School life is not just limited to studies and sports. There are also other activity rooms such as the music room, art room, and dance room. The Art room is a big hall with lots of colourful charts and various types of paints. The students can portray their imagination and can create beautiful art here. Dance and music are also very important in school life as they help the students express themselves in a new manner. The different movements in dance help the students in unwinding themselves.

My school has a big library where we all read different kinds of books, novels and comics. Apart from the library, my school has well-equipped scientific labs where we all practise various experiments of Chemistry, Physics and Biology. I have learned a lot of things in these labs. My school also has a big computer lab with trained technical staff that help us to learn everything about computers. I love playing on the computer and learning new things in the computer lab. In the computer lab, the students learn about using MS Word and PowerPoint. The computer lab is also called the ICT lab. The ICT teacher teaches the students about the internet and how to use it safely.

All the staff at my school are very polite, educated and experienced. Our teachers not only teach us but also prepare us for various competitions, and every year, my school wins many prizes in various competitions. I have even represented my school in a hockey championship and scored the second position.

The classrooms are big and decorated beautifully with different artwork done by the students. Various projects and models are kept in the classroom for the students to keep on revising their concepts. The teachers use smartboards, and every day a new word is taught to enhance the students’ vocabulary. Every day one student presents the ‘Thought for the Day’. These positive thoughts keep us motivated.

All the teachers at my school are very dedicated and punctual. They always teach us discipline and ask us to come to school on time. Our teachers love us, and they teach us in a very simple and easy way. Whenever we fail to understand anything, they try to make us understand it again without shouting at us. They give equal attention to all the students, and that is why my school has an excellent academic record. 

The teachers are well qualified. They use different techniques to teach us the concepts. The atmosphere in the school is fun-filled and fruitful at the same time. The school’s entire staff, from the security guard to the teachers, is very helpful and polite.

We learn many life skills also in school. Discipline, hard work, and punctuality are some of them. During sports classes, we learn teamwork and work together to win.

The best part of my school is its auditorium where all the school events and competitions take place. Our school auditorium is one of the best auditoriums in the town with a great sound and light facility. It is fully air-conditioned with lots of seats. Every year, my school organises an annual cultural festival which lasts for two days. Many cultural events take place within these two days like singing, dancing, debate competition, etc. I love to participate in a poem writing competition every year, and many times I have won prizes as well. Every year, the toppers of our school get awarded on this annual cultural day and we all students love to participate in various events of the annual cultural day.

We also have school assemblies in our Auditorium. Sometimes the students from other schools come and participate in the different competitions organised in our schools. These events are called inter-school competitions. These events are very good as we get to learn new things from other students and make many new friends.

Apart from the annual cultural day, my school is famous for organising one of the biggest annual sports meets. I love this annual sports meet because sports are my favourite. In this annual sports meet, various sports competitions are organised, and almost 50 schools participate in these competitions and win multiple titles. Me, my friends, and our seniors also participate in these competitions and make our school proud by winning in them. My school has great teachers, excellent faculty and all the facilities that one student needs to excel in his/her life.

The biggest reason behind the success and fame of my school is our Principal Sir. He is 50 years old, yet very active and disciplined. He has an attractive personality, and his knowledge is commendable. He loves all the students and always spare some time from his busy schedule to monitor the progress of all the students. I admire his personality and principles. He always encourages us to take part in various extracurricular activities, and it is the result of his support & dedication that the students of my school always perform better in all the competitions. We all are fortunate to have him as our Principal.

Principal sir awards the students who participate and win in different cultural and sports events. He has a good memory and remembers the name of every child. The students feel proud when Principal sir calls them by their names.

After each term, assessments are also being conducted in the school. The teachers prepare us for these assessments, and the results are also shared with the parents. The assessment is a good system as students understand the learning gaps and can work on them. The teachers are very helpful as they assist the students wherever it is required.

I love my school and my school life. Every day I learn new things here and enjoy it with my friends. All my teachers love me and always support me. I have learned discipline and punctuality from my teachers, and it will help me a lot in my future. I am proud to be a student at this school, and I will always miss my school after leaving it. My school life has taught me many things and given me some best friends who will be my friends forever. I wish all the success to my school and love everything about my school life.

I joined this school in the year 2016 and I have been able to learn a lot about the school. The school is affordable and the education I have received is quality because I have developed in all aspects of life.

Not only is the school excellent in education, but also excellence in sports is achieved. I have always loved playing tennis. I participate in the school’s tennis competitions. In the year 2017, we won the Bronze medal in the national tournament by CBSE. This year, we secured third position in the same sport, which was an exciting experience for both the students and the teachers. My School, St. Mary’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School is located in Armenian Street, at the heart of Chennai City. It is one of the oldest schools for boys in India, established during the British rule.

“Viriliter Age” which means “Act like a Man” is the motto of my school. It aims to provide a family atmosphere for us to become intellectually enlightened, spiritually profound, emotionally balanced, socially committed and morally responsible students.

Though built during the colonial rule, the buildings are airy and comfortable. The Management regularly upgrades the facilities and uses uptodate technology to run my school. It has a large playground, well-stocked library and well-equipped science laboratory.

Daily Schedule

A typical day at my school starts with the assembly at 8:30 AM. We render our prayers, hear moral and other instructions from teachers. Apart from regular academics through the day, our time table is spotted with periods for music, games, project work etc. We undertake sports activities for an hour after the last period, which gets over at 3:30 PM.

Co-Curricular Activities

According to our interests, we are encouraged to participate in Arts & Crafts, NSS, Scout etc., and become members of various Clubs and Associations. Medical Teams and Psychologists visit us regularly to aid our holistic growth.

I love my school, teachers and friends very much. I aim to complete my studies with laurels. I wish to shine brightly in my higher studies and career, to spread the pride of my school.

My school is situated in the foothills of Yercaud in Salem district, Tamil Nadu and is called “Golden Gates”. It fosters a love for learning and this is clearly seen in its location which is unlike any other school. It is well placed in a natural setting with hills all around and streams flowing nearby. Inside the campus too, there is abundant nature with almond trees lining the divide between buildings and many shrubs and plants bordering different sports grounds. This facilitates practical study and most of our science and geography classes happen outside. Our Principal and Correspondent have made it their mission to create a healthy and organic atmosphere for learning.

My school teachers come in all shades of character. There are those teachers who have great love for the subject they teach and impart that love to us students too. Even a student who hates that particular subject will start liking it, if he/she sits in their classes. Next, we have jovial teachers who are cheerful in nature and radiate joy to all around them. They are friendly and compassionate and are the go-to people for all students when any trouble comes up. Then, there are the strict teachers who are rigorous in nature and make sure discipline and decorum is maintained throughout school. They are the ones who keep rule breakers and unruly students at bay. Together, our teachers form the heart and soul of the school.

On weekdays, typical school schedule happens in my school too. We start our day with a prayer assembly. With a short news time, prayer song and any specific instructions for the day, we depart to our respective classes. After four periods of subjects with a short snack break in between, we break for lunch. Lunch is when the whole school comes alive with shouts and screams of laughter as we all socialise with fellow classmates. Then follows three periods of subjects in the afternoon and off we leave to our homes. But everybody’s favourite is Saturday! The day dedicated for extracurricular activities. There are many clubs for Music, Dance, Gardening, Math, Drama, Science, Eco, etc… Each student is to pick two clubs and partake in them in the morning. Post lunch we have various sports clubs to participate in. On the whole, Saturdays are packed with play and fun.

Conclusion:

In today’s world, with the hustle and bustle of city life, my school is a wonderful place to learn and grow. It enriches our journey through education by blending in play, fun and nature.

My school embodies the above mentioned qualities and more to the smallest of details. The classrooms are decorated with bright colours to cheer up the student’s mood; the playground is designed to relax each student after participating in mentally challenging mind exercise and the general design of the school subconsciously makes every student feel at home.

The Teachers:

Teachers can either make or break any school. Some grumpy, others dull, and then you have those who simply lack the techniques of teaching. While some concepts are easy to learn, other concepts require a teacher who has mastered the art of teaching to drive the point home with each student.

My school possesses experienced teacher who could honestly be motivational speakers when they want to be. They are witty, smart and full of charisma. The Students:

There simply can be no school without the student. No matter how nicely decorated a school is, the quality of its teachers or management, it would all go to waste without bright student flooding the classes on a daily basis.

While abundance of vibrant student can be found at my school, the strength of the student does not lie solely in their numbers. Students at my school make the job of teachers easy. They are attentive in class, pay attention to detail and they have a knack for finishing task in record time.

The conduct of student at my school is second to none. The students are courteous to each other and their superiors. Also, they maintain the highest level of decorum in the classroom and beyond.

In my school, I was educated about the ways through which I can move in the society, progress in my life and behave with others.

My school was quite grand and big. There were three storeys and wonderfully constructed building in the school. It was situated in the middle of my city which was quite close to my home. I used to go there by walking. It was one of the most excellent schools in the entire town in which I was living.

Surroundings of My school:

The site of my school was very quiet as well as pollution free. There were two stairways at both ends that make me reach to each floor. The school was well furnished including a well-instrumented science research laboratory, a big library, as well as one computer laboratory at first floor. There was a school lecture theatre located on the ground floor in which the entire annual meetings and functions take place.

Structure of my school:

The head office, principal offices, staff room, clerk room, and common study room are situated on my school’s ground floor. Moreover, there were the stationery shop, school canteen; skating hall and chess room that were located on the ground floor.

My school possesses two large concreted basketball courts opposite the office of school principal whereas the field of football located at its side. There was a tiny green garden facing the head office. It was full of bright flowers and pretty plants that increase the whole school beauty. During my time, there were around 1600 students at my school. All the students perform quite well in any inter-school competitions.

Standard of education:

The education standards of my school were quite inventive and advanced that benefit me in understanding any difficult subjects quite effortlessly. Our professors explain us everything very genuinely and try to let us know all the things practically. My school always get the first rank in any inter-school cultural activities.

All the significant days of the year like teacher’s day, sports day, parent’s day, anniversary day, children’s day, republic day, founder’s day, Christmas day, independence day, mother’s day, happy new year, annual junction, Mahatma Gandhi birthday, etc., were celebrated in my school in a magnificent way.

My school’s atmosphere was very delightful as there were lots of greenery and scenic beauty. There was a big size garden along with the pool having frog, fish, trees, colorful flowers, green grass, and decorative trees, etc. My school offers the programme’s facility to the students belonging to the class nursery to class 12th. Our school’s principal was very strict regarding hygiene, discipline, and cleanliness.

Other facilities:

Students in my school also get the facility of the bus that helps them in reaching the school from far away places. The entire students used to accumulate in the play area during the morning time for the prayer and then go back to their particular schoolrooms. There were different teachers for the diverse subjects in my school such as Math, P.T., Hindi, English, G.K, Marathi, geography, history, drawing and crafts, science, and many more.

We used to have numerous co-curricular activities in my school like scouting, swimming, N.C.C, skating, school band, dancing, singing, etc. All those students who had prejudiced behavior and do disobedient activities were penalized by the class teacher according to the norms of my school. We also get a small lecture daily from our principal for around 10 minutes regarding the etiquette, character formation, moral education, respecting others and acquiring good values. Thus, I can say that what I am today is only because of my school which is the best school according to me.

I am a proud student of Delhi Public School, Mayapuri. My school is located quite close to my home, at a walking distance of 5 minutes. My school positions high among the composite state-funded schools of Delhi. Late Sh. Ram Gopal, the founder leader of Seth Sagarmal trust is the zenith body behind the establishment of this school. The founder administrator Sh. Ram Gopal was a visionary and a philanthropist and he had a fantasy for giving quality education and great foundation with the goal that the kids from the cross segment of the general public could get great training and turn into the respectable nationals of the nation. His fantasy was acknowledged when Delhi Public School, Mayapuri was built up in the year 1991 and spread over 4 acres of land. He used to tell during the assembly meetings that this school has been set up with a mission to give quality training gelled with moral qualities and has the vision to encourage and develop the intellectual and creative abilities in us. Our teachers at Delhi Public School plan to make a solid society by giving comprehensive training keeping in view the changing patterns in worldwide instruction and guide us accordingly.

Infrastructure:

My school is situated on a plot of 4 acres of land out of which 2 acres of land is for the building and remaining 2 acres of land is for the playground and other open-air exercises. Other than brilliant class empowered classrooms, my school building contains the accompanying Lab (Language, General Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Computers), Library, Multipurpose Hall, Music, Dance and Drama Room, Workmanship Room, Sports Room, Yoga Room, Hospital/Medical Room regulated by full time qualified specialist and helped by an attendant and Staff Rooms (separate staff spaces for various dimension of educators). My school transport has 6 different routes which cover nearly most of Delhi making it convenient for students from all areas to reach the school on time.

The Atmosphere of My School:

The atmosphere of my school is superb with bunches of natural greenery and scenery. There is a vast ground surrounded by beautiful trees and full of green grass for us to play during our PT periods. Different things like an enormous playground, vast open spaces all around the school give my school a characteristic marvel. There is an office of cricket net, basketball court and skating ground too. My school pursues CBSE board standards. My school gives the education to students of all caste and creed from nursery to twelfth class. My school principal is extremely strict about school control, cleanliness and neatness.

Academic Activities in My School:

The academic norms of my school are exceptionally inventive and imaginative which enables us to understand any difficult issue effortlessly. Our teachers show us earnestly and let us know everything essentially. My school positions first in any program like between school social interests and sports exercises. In my school we celebrate all important days and events of the year such as Sports Day, Teacher’s Day, Parents’ Day, Children’s Day, School Anniversary Day, Founder’s Day, Republic Day, Independence Day, Christmas Day, Mother’s Day, Annual capacity, Happy New Year, Mahatma Gandhi Birthday, and so on in a fabulous way.

We take part in the co-curricular exercises, for example, swimming, exploring, N.C.C., school band, skating, singing, moving, and so on. Students having unjustifiable conduct and unrestrained exercises are punished by the class educator according to the school standards. Our in charge ma’am takes classes of each student occasionally in the gathering corridor for 10 minutes to manage our character, behaviour, moral instruction, gaining great qualities and regarding others. Our educational time is exceptionally fascinating and charming as we do lots of inventive and useful works with the help of our teachers.

Why I Worship My School?

My school resembles a temple where we go every day, appeal to God and study for 6 hours every day. My teacher is exceptionally decent and understanding. My school has strict standards of study, cleanliness and uniform. I just enjoy going to school every day as my mom says that it is exceptionally important to go to class daily and study. This is very important for my bright future and my journey towards becoming a good human being. My School is a temple of realizing where we are creatively engaged through the learning procedure. We learn different things too with our examination like control, conduct, act well, reliability and a lot more manners. In this way, my school is the best school in the world.

We all have many sweet and sour memories of our school. Many of us complete our school education from one school but some students like me have to change more than a few schools. School leaves a great impact on our minds. It affects our way of thinking and teaches us to live in the outside world. No wonder it is called the second home of a child.

I too admire my school. Although it has also been two years since I started studying here, there are many kinds of emotions I have developed for my current school. Basically, I belong to the colorful state of Rajasthan. But due to some family reasons, I had to come to Bhubaneswar. It is the capital city of the state of Orissa.

Early Days at My School:

I started my studies here as a student of standard 7. Clearly, there were many cultural differences between my past school and this one. The language, the climate, the food, and the ways of interaction, everything was different here. For the first few months, it was hard for me to adjust in a completely new environment. But slowly, it started to feel familiar.

The Atmosphere:

My classmates and subject teachers have been very supportive. It’s a co-ed school that means both girls and boys sit together and interact with each other frankly. Our school has a great building. It is situated at the heart of the city, away from the residential areas of the town. We go to school by bus.

Teachers at my school come from different parts of the country. My English teacher is a south-Indian whereas my science teacher is a highly reputed lady who came from America and settled in India a few years ago. She is a visiting faculty and teaches us out of her passion for the teaching job.

The students in my school belong to different types of families. Some are from a very simple family. And some are from highly reputed and educated families. For example, the parents of one of my classmates are scientists and parents of another classmate are lecturers. But all the students are treated equally in my school and this is what makes me really proud of my school.

Our School Campus:

My school has a three-floor building. All the classrooms here are large and well-maintained. They are always clean. Huge windows in the class allow sufficient sunlight into the rooms. In summers, we also use the air conditioning in the school as the climate here is quite hot and humid.

We also have a huge playground in the school where our daily assembly and all the other activities take place. In the morning assembly, everything is organized by the students only. From playing the instruments to reading the news and helping students make a line to their classrooms, students take care of all the tasks.

What I Enjoy the Most at My School:

It is a day-boarding school. So, all the children get their breakfast and lunch from the school mess itself. The meals served here is hot and fresh. You can get extra servings as many times as you like. Although in the beginning, it was new to my taste buds, I started to like the Oriya cuisine very soon.

There are many extra-curricular activities taught to the students here. To name some, we have a traditional Oriya dance class. Then, there are self-defense classes and an additional class to learn a foreign language of your choice.

Discipline and Conduct:

Discipline and cleanliness form a great part of my school culture. Every day, the seniors form a group for hygiene checking of the juniors. The responsibility of each senior student is fixed. From the shoes to nails and clean dress, everything is checked properly.

The classes in my school start from play way and up to standard 10. Sincerity and punctuality are the key habits of my school. Even the teachers and kids from the lower classes come to school on time and follow every rule.

Once we get inside the school premises, it is not allowed for us to talk in our mother tongue. All the students have to talk to each other in English. And the rules about it are very strict. Though it may sound a severe rule, it has improved our spoken English in a great way.

Extra-curricular Activities:

Our principal likes discipline but she also shows us a lot of affection and warmth. The students can directly go to her for sharing their problems. She also makes sure that we enjoy the teaching of our teachers and not get bored. That is why occasional trips are arranged for us to explore the nearby cities, which I enjoy a lot.

I also look forward to the annual sports day organized at my school. There are so many sports activities to cheer us up and keep our mind and body healthy. I also participate in the annual functions of my school. It is organized at the biggest auditorium in Bhubaneswar. We practice for several days before the final performance on the stage.

My Sweet Memories at the School:

Last year, my classmates and juniors made my birthday so special. My desk was filled with gifts and greeting cards. They showered me with so much love and affection. When I was new here, all my classmates were very helpful and made it easy for me to settle here without much of a problem.

They are also kind enough to teach me their local language ‘Oriya’. With time, I have learned to read and write the basic words and sentences in the language. Our school also introduced us to the habit of writing and sharing letters with our pen-pals.

My school has taught me many valuable such as to help others, to not make fun of others, respecting the elders and loving the young ones. Over time, I have collected many precious memories here and feel grateful to God for allowing me such a rich learning environment.

I would always love my school and no matter where I go, I will always be proud of it all my life.

Essay on My Trip for Class 3

‘My trip started with me and my family making a list of necessary items and packing our stuff. Me and my family went on a 4-day trip to Udaipur, the city of lakes. This city has a total of 7 lakes, out of which, Lake Pichola is the most beautiful one. My father booked a suite for us, where we stayed. 

As always, my restless sister and I started exploring the hotel. We saw the beautiful swimming pool, played water sports, and ate a lot of Indian food. I enjoyed the Dal Bhaati Churma.

Then we visited the Jagdish temple, which was located just outside the royal palace. It is an architectural marvel and is listed among the top monuments in India. 

Last but not least, we went boating on Lake Pichola, which was the most beautiful moment of my entire trip. We rented a motor boat, where our guide told us everything about the city, its history, and how it has because a tourism hub. 

My trip to Udaipur was a magical experience. Every moment of my trip is a cherished memory that I will never forget. Traveling with my family was so much fun.’

‘When I was in Class 5, we went on a school trip to Rishikesh, the famous hill station. My mother packed all my important things and told me to follow everything my teacher told me. It was a 3-day trip, where we had a lot of fun, ate delicious food, played games on the riverside, did rafting, bonfire and jungle-adventure.

We visited the hotel in the early morning and were served with delicious breakfast. After breakfast, we visited the famous Lakshman Jhula, located on the Ganges River. This Jhula is used by pedestrians to cross the river and visit the other side of the city.

The next thing we did was rafting. There were rafting boats, and we were provided with life jackets, helmets, and wetsuits. We were given clear instructions not directly to jump into the river and stay in the boat. It was really fun and a completely different experience for me.

Then we had our lunch and sat down near the river, where we talked with locals. We learned about the history of this beautiful city. Our guide took us to the nearby waterfall, where we played water sports and enjoyed a lot.

While we were packing our stuff and leaving the hotel, we were offered souvenirs and holy prasad by the hotel staff. This trip was full of adventure, spirituality, and beautiful moments with my friends.’

My Favourite Trip Essay in 250 Words

‘My favorite trip was to Kashmir, called ‘Paradise on Earth’. It is an Indian Union Territory, located in Northern India. There were breathtaking views, serene lakes, and snow-capped mountains. It was like I was in heaven.

We traveled by train, where we enjoyed the winding green valleys and beautiful waterfall. Firstly, we explored the Mughal Gardens. There were terraces arranged near the water channel, fountains lined, and various types of flowers and trees planted. 

We explored the famous Dal Lake, which is a natural wetland with floating gardens. My father rented a houseboat, locally known as ‘Shikhara’ where we had our lunch and enjoyed the boating experience. It was like a fairy world, where everything was calm as a bright blue sky.

Our next destination was Gurmarg, which is famous for its snow-covered landscapes. The scenic beauty of the Himalayan Mountains in the backdrop was like an additional adventure to our trip. Me and my brother enjoyed Skiing at the Apharwat Peak. My father is a golf fan, so he played golf at the Gulmarg Golf Course, close to our hotel.

After skiing, we were so hungry that my brother and I ate a hearty meal to recover our exhausted energy. We were so exhausted that we slept for 4 hours. When we woke up, we witnessed snow for the first time. We made a snowman and played Tic-Tac-Toe using sticks.

Why I spread my brother’s ashes at Pinehurst No. 2

Golf was a strange game for my brother to play. It was not a typical sport for athletes in our hometown. Golf was a country club game, and we were not country club kids. Both our parents had grown up in a sort of desperate poverty that I think, to them, made joining the country club, even in our little town, seem like something that didn’t involve just dollars and cents for initiation fees and dues. It was the currency and comfort of a certain class that we could only view from afar.

My brother found golf during graduate school at Mississippi State. The school had a Professional Golf Management program and a nice course the university maintained. I was surprised when he called to tell me he had taken up the game and more surprised when I saw how deeply invested he already was. We had a sense of ourselves that was imprinted by the time and place of where we grew up--Corbin, Kentucky, a town built by the railroad in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.

Our mother grew up in Korea with very little but with an insatiable appetite for more. Dad might have grown up with even less, lacking everything except books thanks to the Book Mobile from the public library, which changed his life. He became an avid reader, allowing his intelligence to blossom, then he went off to college and his brothers and sisters all followed him out of their small home and deep holler and into the middle class. So, while their childhood hardships were not ours, we felt a connection with their struggle.

When Tim started playing golf, my father scoffed. This was not a tough game. From its fashion to its (lack of) actual physical action, golf just seemed a little too easy. Too soft. Even prissy and fussy. I was a little embarrassed he had even decided to play golf, but one thing I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older is that one generation’s values always gives way to the next and my brother and I were able to leave those notions of golf and the country club behind. Shortly after Tim started playing, I did, too.

A year after I graduated from college, I went to live with Tim after both of our lives needed to hit reset. I was with him for 18 months and most of our days ended on golf courses in and around Richmond, Virginia.

I cherish those memories with Tim playing in the gloaming. Even then they reminded me of the evenings with our father in our mountaintop cabin, watching the lightning bugs spark to life and the night’s blanket of stars covering us from above. I was with my brother, my hero, on the course, but I was thinking of Dad, too—how he had worked himself out of poverty to give us so many opportunities and the privilege of being able to play a sport that was not cheap.

Golf is aspirational. So many of the greatest courses are out of reach to so many and that was true of my early golfing life. Time, as much as money, is golf’s great expense and often when you have a lot of one you often don’t have a lot of the other. As an English graduate student and single professor in my 20s and 30s, most courses were aspirational, not just the great ones, but then I started writing about golf and I started to find my way into those fields of play I longed to walk on, including Pinehurst No. 2, the site of this year’s U.S. Open. And the best part of going there the first time was that I got to take Tim with me.

Three years ago, this past May, my brother passed away from complications with cancer. When he was first diagnosed, it was a week after we had been in Pinehurst together, where I was writing my first travel feature. We had been to the resort before and had played No. 2 the previous year for my 40th birthday, but the visit, which should have been joyful, was filled with dread awaiting his biopsy results. Every time I go back to the resort, I think about our last visit there together and how hard we both tried to not let our fears of the worst take over.

I’ve written a lot about my brother’s passing and our relationship as well our relationship to golf. Sports always connected us, but golf hit something deeper. Maybe it was because we were outside in nature—a version of it, anyway—and it, too, reminded Tim of the days we spent in the woods with our father growing up. I’ve often wished my father played golf because I think he would have enjoyed those walks up the fairway of the 18th and testing both his mind and his athleticism in the way only golf can.

After Tim died, I took his ashes and spread them on No. 2 in a spot that was just for me, his wife, and our closest friends to know. I have been back to the course several times since and every occasion is about more than golf. It’s a chance to visit with my brother. I only ever talk to him on golf courses. I only say his name out loud when I’m playing and it’s only on No. 2 that I stop and squat down and tell him that I miss him, I wish he was here, and I wish he could see all the things I see. On my last visit, playing with strangers, I told him I had to keep it quick but that I would come back, that there was much to tell him.

The one time Tim and I played No. 2, we hardly spoke. I think we were just so thrilled to be there we were both soaking in the moment of being there and being together.

Recently, I met a reader for a round at his club and he asked what I love about golf. He didn’t know about Tim, and I try not to foist the memories of my dead brother onto new friends, so my answer was weak and ineffectual and filled with lots of golfer platitudes about nature and camaraderie. But here is my real answer.

What I love about golf is that it reminds me of everything. It reminds me of everything that is important and everything that is trivial. It lets me be close to my brother again, and when I play with our friends, his presence visits us for a few moments every round. I love golf because every good swing feels great and every bad swing really doesn’t matter. Because I have lost so much, I know how fleeting all these moments on the course are. I love golf because it lets me be present with my brother, reminds me of the love of our parents, and makes me long for the days with my own family. Golf is everything. And golf on No. 2 is always where those converge.

I may yet get to more great courses in this life—and I will certainly try—but if one can have a golfing home, mine is Pinehurst No. 2. It is the place where I feel my brother’s spirit most and no matter how poorly or well I play, the day will end with me having talked to my brother once again.

On our lone round at No. 2, a friend took a video of Tim and me walking down the fourth fairway and what I love about the video is that we aren’t talking to each other. We’re just there together.
