We do not consider Fall or Winter ball results in our rankings. Although may consider in the future.

Indoor Games/Results are Not Considered

TBR Loves the idea of developing players indoors, however, we do not take these games/tournaments into consideration for the rankings. TBR only uses results from outdoor tournaments during the season.

Player Movement is Considered in Preseason Rankings

Travel baseball rankings is the only website that takes into consideration mergers, player movement, injuries, etc. Ultimately, once games start it is all settled on the field.

Competing In High-Level Tournaments are Paramount!

Travel Baseball Rankings receive a lot of submissions about team records. TBR considers the best travel baseball teams that consistently seek top level competition and the teams that are testing themselves in high level tournaments, more so than wins and losses. The caveat…Most teams don’t know the what the most competitive tournaments are until the team lists are released. TBR, PBR,  PG Major, USSSA Major  are great starting points for excellent competition.

Head-to-Head Wins Are Important, But Not Everything

Did your team beat a team in pool play, but did not advance as far in bracket play? This could be an indicator that your team was better that one game, but not as deep of a team overall, which could warrant a lower ranking.

League Play Is For development

Why? Travel Baseball Rankings get a lot of submissions on league play. Some top teams may be developing players/pitchers while others are going for the win. It can be really difficult to determine the coach’s strategy in league play. Tournament wins are a much better indicator of the better overall team.

Ohio State baseball head coach Bill Mosiello resigns, to return to former home

It was a trying season for Ohio State baseball, even though it made the Big Ten Tournament .

The Buckeyes completed their season with a 29-26 record, 12-12 in conference play. Head coach Bill Mosiello who was hired just two years ago, guided Ohio State to a 60-51 record, each campaign just a few games over .500.

Mosiello came from Texas Christian, and helped the Horned Frogs to four College World Series berths as an assistant. Clearly, that success didn’t follow him to Columbus, and on Friday he resigned from his position and will return to TCU once again. It was reported by Kendall Rodgers of D1 Baseball that the move was being made.

It looks like family played a big part in his decision, as they never fully made the move to Columbus. We wish him the best as he returns to TCU and hopefully new Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork finds a great replacement for him.

The 2024 DI men's baseball tournament began with regionals on May 31 and will conclude in Omaha, Nebraska from June 22-23/24. North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, NC State, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Florida State won their respective Super Regionals, advancing to the Men's College World Series. These eight teams are competing in Omaha through June 23/24. Tournament selections were made  on Monday, May 27.

What is the difference between the Division I baseball tournament and the College World Series?

The NCAA Division I baseball tournament is a 64-team tournament that starts in May. After two rounds of play (which each consist of multiple games), there are just eight teams left. These eight teams then head to Omaha, Neb. for the College World Series. The CWS is the culmination of the DI tournament, where the teams compete in two brackets, with the winners of each meeting in the CWS finals, a best-of-three series to decide the NCAA champion.

When did the College World Series start?

The first-ever NCAA Division I baseball tournament was in 1947, and would barely be recognized as the same tournament nowadays. The 1947 tournament featured just eight teams, which were divided into two four-team, single-elimination brackets. The two winners — California and Yale — then met in a best-of-three final in Kalamazoo, Michigan. California would go undefeated through the inaugural CWS and beat Yale to capture the first title.

How are teams selected for the NCAA Division I baseball tournament?

Since 1954, the NCAA Division I baseball tournament field has been split into two qualifying groups: The automatic berths, and the at-large selections. Since 2014, that in a typical year split sees 31 conference champions receive automatic berths, and 33 teams receive at-large bids, decided by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. 

Men's College World Series champs since 1947

California defeated Yale in the first-ever Men's College World Series, the first of two played in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Texas put itself on the map as the first back-to-back champions in winning the only MCWS ever played in Wichita, Kansas in 1949. The following season Texas won its second championship, opening Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Josh Stalnaker had not attended public school until his senior year.

He credits baseball for helping him with that transition, reuniting with former travel ball teammates in Twinsburg.

“Without baseball, I don’t know how that would have gone,” Stalnaker said Sunday after the Tigers’ loss to Mason in the OHSAA Division I state championship , “but building relationships and having fun, especially when we started practices in the winter, it’s been a total blast.”

Stalnaker is the cleveland.com Baseball Player of the Year, leading Twinsburg’s turnaround as its ace starting pitcher and No. 3 hitter in the lineup. The Tigers went from a 6-17 team a year ago, when Stalnaker didn’t play any high school baseball while taking online college courses. He played varsity baseball for two years at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy and enrolled last year at Twinsburg, where he lived his whole life and played travel ball through 11-and-under with many of his senior teammates.

They led the Tigers’ turnaround, winning just one Suburban League game last year to losing only one this year and sharing the National Conference Crown with North Royalton.

Stalnaker, who intends to play next year at Ashland and major in exercise science or business, downplayed his role in Twinsburg’s ascension to 24 wins and its first state final appearance. His coach and teammates disagreed.

“He’s such a good player,” senior shortstop A.J. Taneja said. “He really is a good teammate. He wears his feelings on his sleeve, and I love to see that because it just makes us want to be better for him. He’s putting his all out there all of the time.”

Stalnaker also led a staff that played much of this season without its top college prospect available, as Indiana commit Owen Shinada suffered an injury that kept him off the mound until the state finals. Coach Jim Lipinski turned to Stalnaker early and often, and the right-hander delivered in some of Twinsburg’s biggest games, including one of two wins against defending Suburban League champion Wadsworth, a district semifinal upset of powerhouse Archbishop Hoban and wins in the regional and state semifinals.

“It’s absolutely incredible what he did this year,” Lipinski said. “He’s not getting the recognition he deserved. It’s pretty crazy. We were state runner-up with one player that’s even honorable mention All-Ohio. Josh, what he did on the mound, there’s no question in my mind he’s one of the top pitchers in the state of Ohio.”

Position: Pitcher, designated hitter

About Stalnaker: On the road to the state final four, Stalnaker put up a 7-1 record with 70 strikeouts and a 2.06 earned-run average on the mound. If that wasn’t enough, he hit .350 through the district finals with one home run, 29 RBI and 20 runs while batting third in Lipinski’s lineup. In a pivotal district semifinal win vs. Hoban, Stalnaker had a double with three RBI at the plate and struck out 12 on the mound. He followed with a 12-strikeout, two-hitter in a 6-0 victory vs. Wooster in the regional semifinals. Then, in last week’s state semifinals, Stalnaker struck out seven and gave up four hits in a 4-1 win vs. Olentangy Berlin.

Brady Sasse, North Royalton

About Sasse: He won all nine of his starts for the Bears, who finished with a No. 5 ranking in the state coaches poll for Division I. Sasse is a Toledo recruit and struck out 67 with just eight walks and 34 hits in 63 innings. North Royalton (24-6) won a share of the Suburban League National Conference before falling to Avon, 1-0, in the district finals. He also made the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association all-state first team.

Mommers was one of three All-Great Lakes Conference first-team members, including senior Thomas Rossi and junior pitcher Rees Heigle, for the Pirates. They won their first league title since 1981.

Brady Rollyson, Green

About Rollyson: An Ohio State recruit, Rollyson made the All-Ohio second team at shortstop. He hit .361 with one home run, 22 runs and 20 RBI. Rollyson also posted a .920 fielding percentage.

Sawyer Solitaria, St. Ignatius

About Solitaria: A Kent State recruit, Solitaria made the All-Ohio team at first base. He hit .418 with five home runs, 19 RBI and 19 runs. The Wildcats (18-11) won seven straight games before falling to Wooster in the district finals.

Ryan Sudbrook, Avon

About Sudbrook: A Toledo commit, Sudbrook earned a spot on the All-Ohio second team at shortstop. He hit .418 with 32 runs and 13 RBI, plus 22 steals, for the Eagles (17-11) on their run to the Division I regional semifinals.

About Escano: He joined Sasse on the All-Ohio first team, hitting .402 with three home runs and 28 RBI. Escano scored 37 times. He also finished with a .947 fielding percentage for the Suburban League National Conference co-champions.

Makhi Williams, Padua

About Williams: While fellow junior teammate Lucas Palange is the Crown Conference Player of the Year (third and second baseman who batted .402 with 41 hits with a 2.30 ERA pitching and 27 strikeouts), Williams batted leadoff in Padua’s lineup and served as its closer in a run to the Division II state semifinals. He hit .314 with 14 RBI and 17 runs, plus 18 steals. On the mound, Williams was 7-of-7 in save opportunities. He gave up three earned runs, struck out 20 and walked eight in 25 innings.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Jim Lipinski, Twinsburg

Lipinski led the Class of 2024 at Twinsburg three years ago as the school’s freshman team. He took a break from high school coaching the last two years while remaining a travel ball coach with his sons, who play at Hudson. When tragedy struck Twinsburg last December and it lost coach Jeff Luca to a car crash in Pennsylvania , Lipinski returned with Luca’s top assistants — Ron Fruscella and John Quartieri — to try and fill the void. In doing so, they guided the Tigers from a 6-17 finish last year to a 24-7 run this year and the school’s first state championship game appearance. Lipinski had a decorated playing career of his own, helping Cuyahoga Falls to the state finals in 1999 as a junior first baseman and cleanup hitter before playing at Youngstown State. Lipinski teaches statistics at Twinsburg, and the bond he built with his seniors from their freshman year to now navigated the Tigers through adversity. “They just set the bar for our program, and they set my standard,” Lipinski said after the state championship. “My standard is now what these seniors put forth this season, not just to get to the state finals but the way they went about it every day. It was all business, all work, all fun and all together.”

Oregon edges Ohio State for best college football receiver room entering 2024 season

The buckeyes have routinely churned out nfl-caliber wideouts, but the ducks have the advantage in experience.

College football's offseason has transformed into a veritable arms race with the advent of the transfer portal and recent legislation that essentially bars the NCAA from enforcing its own transfer regulations. Chief among the most coveted acquisitions, given the proliferation of pass-heavy offenses on a national scale, are players to catch those passes. 

Wide receivers and tight ends have seen their stock rise in recent seasons. Programs that consistently turn out effective receivers tend to have a ton of success. Just look at Washington and its surprise run to the College Football Playoff National Championship a year ago: the Huskies got there thanks to an explosive passing attack headlined by a trio of 2024 NFL Draft picks in Rome Odunze (Round 1), Ja'Lynn Polk (Round 2) and Jalen McMillan (Round 3). 

Texas followed a similar path to a Big 12 championship and its first playoff appearance in program history, leaning on the production of wide receivers Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell and tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders, among others, while marching to a 12-2 finish. It's no wonder, then, that highly ranked wide receivers and tight ends, be they from the high school or transfer portal ranks, are often among the most sought-after players. 

Building depth at each position is especially important with expanding conferences and a larger College Football Playoff adding to a team's weekly rigors. With that in mind, there are some programs in better shape than others at the receiver spot entering the 2024 season. 

Here's a look at the nation's best -- on paper, at least. 

Leading receiver Troy Franklin is off to the NFL , but that shouldn't be much of a problem for an Oregon offense that should rank among the nation's best. Tez Johnson , who set a single-season program record with 86 receptions in 2023, is back to lead a revamped receiving corps. He returns with 1,182 yards and 10 touchdowns and has All-American upside if another explosive season follows. A pair of 400-yard receivers in Traeshon Holden and Gary Bryant Jr . round out Oregon's returning depth. 

Joining them is transfer Evan Stewart , a former five-star prospect who impressed in two seasons at Texas A&M despite inconsistent quarterback play and an underwhelming offensive scheme under former coach Jimbo Fisher. Even with the veterans ahead of him, Stewart might be the team's best pass catcher. Returning tight ends Terrance Ferguson and Patrick Herbert and high-upside reserves like Jurrion Dickey and Kyler Kasper make this an insanely deep unit.  

2. Ohio State

No program recruits and develops wide receivers better than Ohio State. This year's group might be short on overall experience thanks to notable draft departures like All-American Marvin Harrison Jr., but the Buckeyes are more than capable of pushing for the top spot on this list with the absurd amount of talent on the roster. Emeka Egbuka did spurn the NFL Draft to give new quarterback Will Howard at least one proven option after logging 1,666 yards and 14 touchdowns over the past two years. 

But Egbuka hasn't been the center of Ohio State's offseason hype machine. Far from it, in fact. That honor goes to true freshman Jeremiah Smith, the No. 1 prospect from the Class of 2024 and one of the most ballyhooed players to never take a snap at the collegiate level. It's going to be hard to keep Smith off the field given his explosive spring. The early impression is that he's more than ready for a feature role.  Carnell Tate  is another former five-star prospect who the Buckeyes expect to step up after a solid first year with the program. 

Texas has to replace four of its top five receivers from last year's College Football Playoff team. That level of attrition would normally suggest regression for an explosive passing attack, but not with how coach Steve Sarkisian has stacked skill position talent. The gem of Texas' transfer class is former Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Bond , who was the No. 4 overall prospect in 247Sports' Transfer Rankings. Bond had a scorching-hot close to the 2023 season and profiles as a breakout star waiting to happen. The Longhorns also poached über-athletic tight end transfer Amari Niblack from Alabama. Niblack should pick up the production left by 2024 NFL Draft pick Ja'Tavion Sanders. 

The Alabama expats are joined by Matthew Golden ( Houston ) and Silas Bolden ( Oregon State ) to comprise the nation's best receiver transfer haul. Pay particular attention to Bolden, who was a multi-dimensional threat with the Beavers and is an absolute weapon with the ball in his hands. Johntay Cook II , a top-10 WR recruit in 2023, will take on a bigger role, while five-star freshman Ryan Wingo has a chance to see the field plenty in his first year. 

4. Missouri

Luther Burden III garners most of the attention in discussions surrounding Missouri's passing attack, and for good reason. He could be the first offensive player off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft. But Missouri is much deeper than just one name. Former Oklahoma transfer Theo Wease Jr . established himself as a reliable target with 682 yards and six touchdowns last season. Dynamic slot receiver Mookie Cooper and his 939 yards in three seasons is back, while Marquis Johnson is an excellent depth choice. 

Tight end Brett Norfleet is another breakout candidate. He initially planned on playing both baseball and football, but he's dropped the former to focus more on the latter. At 6-foot-7, he boasts an immense catch radius and the athletic traits to be an elite receiving threat. He's worked hard to improve as a blocker and has drawn rave reviews from Missouri coaches and players alike, so a big season in a featured role could be on tap. 

5. Ole Miss

Lane Kiffin's offenses have captivated national audiences, dating back to his time as Alabama's offensive coordinator. With the arsenal of weapons at his play-calling disposal, this could be his best unit ever. Tre Harris made his fair share of jaw-dropping plays and emerged as one of quarterback Jaxson Dart 's favorite targets in 2023, hauling in 54 catches for 985 yards and eight touchdowns. Louisville transfer Jordan Watkins was an effective running mate with 741 yards and three touchdowns of his own. They're both around for another year and have established chemistry with Dart. 

To offset the loss of Dayton Wade, Ole Miss dipped into the portal and secured a commitment from former South Carolina star Antwane Wells Jr . Wells was sidelined with a foot injury for most of the 2023 season, an ailment that lingered into the spring, but he's one of the SEC's best when he's healthy. Rounding things out, 6-foot-5 and 255-pound tight end Caden Prieskorn has great body control and moves extremely well for a player his size. He has more than 1,000 yards receiving over the past two seasons at Memphis and Ole Miss, and he will add plenty to that total this fall.

Which Ohio State Star Will Have Highest Overall Rating in 'College Football 25'?

Ohio State Buckeyes fans are just weeks away from the release of "College Football 25."

The Buckeyes and 133 other college football teams will be featured in the game, including accurate renditions of their home stadiums, players and traditions. Despite all that has been released about the game, the unveiling of player ratings has yet to happen.

It is typical in most sports games to have a highest-rated player for every team (sometimes referred to as the "pictured athlete"). Case in point, LeBron James graces the screen whenever a player chooses to play as the Los Angeles Lakers in "NBA 2K24."

Assuming the pre-game screen for "College Football 25" will follow that same format, fans are left to speculate as to which Buckeyes star will be the in-game face of the Scarlet and Gray.

There is not one clear favorite, but rather several who could win the honor. Here are the three most likely options for the highest-rated Buckeye on "College Football 25."

Quinshon Judkins

This is the safest bet considering Quinshon Judkins was featured on the deluxe cover of "College Football 25." It would make sense that EA Sports would therefore put him as the best player from Ohio State.

Jack Sawyer

As the defense has become more responsible for Ohio State winning games, guys like Jack Sawyer have become more popular with Buckeye Nation. Sawyer has proven himself to be a dawg time in and time out and has a case to be this season's "Block O" jersey recipient with how much of a team leader he is.

Emeka Egbuka

It's strange to think veteran pass-catcher Emeka Egbuka is still not the clear face of the receiver room in the post-Marvin Harrison Jr. era. Star freshman Jeremiah Smith has stolen much of the spotlight, but Egbuka's skill and experience were evident during the 2024 Spring Game back in April.

Perhaps it's a good thing that Smith is distracting opposing teams from focusing on Egbuka.
