By Mount Ṭûr! 1

By the mount

— Saheeh International

At-Tur - 52:2

And by the Book written

And [by] a Book inscribed 1

At-Tur - 52:3

on open pages ˹for all to read˺! 1

In parchment spread open

At-Tur - 52:4

And by the ˹Sacred˺ House frequently visited! 1

And [by] the frequented House 1

At-Tur - 52:5

And by the canopy raised ˹high˺!

And [by] the ceiling [i.e., heaven] raised high

At-Tur - 52:6

And by the seas set on fire! 1

And [by] the sea set on fire, 1

At-Tur - 52:7

Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will come to pass—

Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur.

At-Tur - 52:8

none will avert it—

Of it there is no preventer.

At-Tur - 52:9

on the Day the heavens will be shaken violently,

On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion

At-Tur - 52:10

and the mountains will be blown away entirely.

And the mountains will pass on, departing 1 -

At-Tur - 52:11

Then woe on that Day to the deniers—

Then woe, that Day, to the deniers,

Introduction

Name of chapter and reason for its name.

This chapter is called Surah At-Tur and it gets its name from the first verse which begins by swearing upon Toor. The word Toor could be taken to mean a (general) mountain, or it could be referring to the mountain where Allah spoke to Prophet Musa, and the reason for the sanctity of this place has been referred to in the opening verse of this chapter. [1]

Surah At-Tur/Toor is the 52nd chapter of the Quran.

Number of Verses

Surah At-Tur has 49 verses. [2] [3] [4] A number of commentators have propounded that this chapter may have 48 verses. [5]

Place of Revelation

This chapter was revealed in Mecca. [3]

Important Concepts in this Chapter

Verses 1-16.

Oaths sworn with regard to the reality of punishment on the deniers and a description of their punishments. The intended meaning of “By the Book inscribed, on an unrolled parchment” in verses 2 and 3 refers to the Lawh al-Mahfuz, [6] or that the Quran is written in the Lawh al-Mahfuz; another intended meaning is that the Torah has been written and sent to be read. [3]

Verse 4, “By the House greatly frequented” is a reference to the Kabah [3] - and it is said that this Kabah (on the earth) is one that is parallel to a Kabah in the fourth and seventh sky which is the place of the circumambulation of the angels. [6] [3]

Verses 17-29

Qualities of the faithful and their salvation.

In addition to explaining the position of the faithful and their pleasures in Paradise, these verses also refer to some other points. For instance in verse 20, “The faithful and their descendants who followed them in faith - We will make their descendants join them,” means that in the case when the offspring of the faithful follow the righteous ways of their parents, the offspring will be joined with their fathers and will also benefit from the blessings of Paradise. Verses 30-44

Challenging the enemies and those that accused the Prophet, and proofs of their weakness and irrationality.

In verse 34, “Let them bring a discourse like it, if they are truthful” the intention was to challenge those who perceived the Quran to be poetry or magic or that it was brought by man - [9] to bring a Quran of their own, or ten chapters, or even one chapter to prove their claims. [10]

Verses 45-49

An explanation of the oppressors’ end; an order to be patient in the face of Allah’s judgement; all-night vigils; and the glorification of Allah for them.

Verse 45 which says: “The day when they will be thunderstruck,” is taken to mean the day when trumpets will be blown or the Day of Judgement. [11] [12]

Benefits of Reciting this Surah

عن محمد بن جبير بن مطعم عن أبيه: سمعت النبي صلى اللّه عليه و سلم يقرأ في المغرب بالطور، فما سمعت أحدا أحسن صوتا أو قراءة منه

Muhammad ibn Jubayr ibn Matam narrates from his father that: “I heard the Prophet recite the chapter of Toor in the Maghrib (prayer). I never heard anyone better than him in voice or in the recitation.” [13]

عن زينب بنت أبي سلمة عن أم سلمة قالت: شكوت إلى رسول اللّه صلى اللّه عليه و سلم أني أشتكي فقال: «طوفي من وراء الناس و أنت راكبة» فطفت و رسول اللّه يصلي إلى جنب البيت يقرأ بالطور و كتاب مسطور

Zaynab bint Abu Salamah narrates from Umm Salamah who said: “I complained to the Prophet that I was ill. He said: ‘Perform the Tawaaf behind the people while riding.’ Thus I performed the Tawaaf while the Prophet was praying by the Kabah and reciting the chapter of Toor.” [13]

Verse 4: “By the House greatly frequented.”

وَٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٱلۡمَعۡمُورِ ٤ وَالْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِثبت في الصحيحين أن رسول اللّه صلى اللّه عليه و سلم قال في حديث الإسراء بعد مجاوزته إلى السماء السابعة: «ثم رفع بي إلى البيت المعمور، و إذا هو يدخله كل يوم سبعون ألفا لا يعودون إليه آخر ما عليهم»

It has been recorded in the Sahihayn that the Prophet said in the narration of al-Isra after ascending to the seventh heaven that: “Then, I was taken to al-Bayt al-Mamoor. It is visited every day by 70 000 angels who will not come back again to visit it.” [14]

عن خالد بن عرعرة، أن رجلا قال لعلي: ما البيت المعمور؟ قال: بيت في السماء يقال له الضراح، و هو بحيال الكعبة من فوقها، حرمته في السماء كحرمة البيت في الأرض، يصلي فيه كل يوم سبعون ألفا من الملائكة ثم لا يعودون فيه أبدا

Khalid ibn Arrah narrates: “A man asked Ali: ‘What is al-Bayt al-Mamoor?’ He replied: ‘It is a house in the sky which is called al-Darah (the furthest point). It is parallel to the Kabah from above it. Its sanctity in the sky is like the sanctity of the Kabah on earth. 70 000 angels pray in it every day who will never return to it ever again.’” [15]

Verse 6: “By the surging sea.”

وَالْبَحْرِ الْمَسْجُورِ٦ حدثنا عمر بن الخطاب عن رسول اللّه صلى اللّه عليه و سلم قال: «ليس من ليلة إلا و البحر يشرف فيها ثلاث مرات، يستأذن اللّه تعالى أن ينفضخ عليهم، فيكفه اللّه عز و جل»

Umar ibn al-Khattab narrates from the Prophet that he said: “There is no night except that the sea gets elevated in it three times [over the dwellers of the earth], asking Allah’s permission to pour itself onto them, but Allah restrains it.” [16]

Verse 20: “They will be reclining on arrayed couches, and We will wed them to big-eyed hooris.”

مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَى سُرُرٍ مَصْفُوفَةٍ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُمْ بِحُورٍ عِينٍ٢٠ حدثنا صفوان بن عمرو أنه سمع الهيثم بن مالك الطائي يقول: إن رسول اللّه صلى اللّه عليه و سلم قال: «إن الرجل ليتكئ المتكأ مقدار أربعين سنة ما يتحول عنه و لا يمله، يأتيه ما اشتهت نفسه و لذت عينه»

Safwaan ibn Amr narrates that he heard al-Haytham ibn Malik al-Tai quote the Prophet who said: “Man will be reclining like forty years without any change and without getting bored, and he will get whatever he desires and whatever pleasures his eyes fall upon.” [17]

Verse 21: “The faithful and their descendants who followed them in faith -We will make their descendants join them, and We will not stint anything from [the reward of] their deeds. Every person is hostage to what he has earned.”

وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَاتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُمْ بِإِيمَانٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَا أَلَتْنَاهُمْ مِنْ عَمَلِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ٢١ عن ابن عباس، أظنه عن النبي صلى اللّه عليه و سلم قال: «إذا دخل الرجل الجنة سأل عن أبويه و زوجته و ولده، فيقال إنهم لم يبلغوا درجتك، فيقول: يا رب قد عملت لي و لهم فيؤمر بإلحاقهم به»

Ibn Abbas presumably narrated from the Prophet that he said: “When a man enters Paradise, he will ask about his parents, his wife and his child. Then it will be said to him: ‘They have not reached the level that you hold.’ Then he will say: ‘O my Lord! My actions were for myself and for them.’ Then it will be commanded that they also be made to join him.” [18]

Verse 48: “So submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord, for indeed you fare before Our eyes; and celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise [at dawn].”

وَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ٤٨ عن أبي برزة الأسلمي، قال: كان رسول اللّه صلى اللّه عليه و سلم يقول بآخر عمره: إذا أراد أن يقوم من المجلس «سبحانك اللهم و بحمدك، أشهد أن لا إله إلا أنت، أستغفرك و أتوب إليك». فقال رجل: يا رسول اللّه، إنك لتقول قولا ما كنت تقوله فيما مضى، قال: «كفارة لما يكون في المجلس»

Abu Barzah al-Aslami narrates that the Prophet, at the end of his life, whenever he wanted to get up from a gathering, he used to say: “Glory be to You O Allah, and with Your praise, I testify that there is no Allah (worthy of worship) except You, I seek Your forgiveness, and I repent to You.” A man said to him: “O Prophet of Allah! You are saying something that you did not used to say in the past.” He said: “It is compensation for whatever [wrong] may have happened in the gathering.” [19]

According to the Shia Traditions

أبي بن كعب عن النبي ص أنه قال‏ و من قرأ سورة و الطور كان حقا على الله أن يؤمنه من عذابه و أن ينعمه في جنته

Ubay ibn Kab narrates from the Prophet that he said: “Whoever recites Surah al-Toor, it will be upon Allah to protect him from His punishment, and to bestow favours upon him in His paradise.” [20]

عن جبير بن مطعم قال‏ سمعت رسول الله ص يقرأ بالطور في المغرب‏ روى محمد بن هشام عن أبي جعفر قال‏ مَنْ‏ قَرَأَ سُورَةَ وَ الطُّورِ جَمَعَ اللَّهُ لَهُ خَيْرَ الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَة

Jubayr ibn Matam narrates: “I heard the Prophet recite the chapter of Toor in the evening.” Muhammad ibn Hisham narrates from Abu Jafar that he said: “Whoever recites Surah al-Toor, Allah will gather for him the good of this world and the Hereafter.” [21]

وَالْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ٤ عن أميرالمؤمنين علی بن ابی طالب قال: يَدْخُلُهُ‏ كُلَ‏ يَوْمٍ‏ سَبْعُونَ‏ أَلْفَ‏ مَلَكٍ لَا يَعُودُونَ إِلَيْهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

It has been narrated from Amir al-Momineen Ali ibn Abi Talib that he said: “70 000 angels enter into it (al-Bayt al-Mamoor) every day, and they will never return to it until the Day of Judgement.” [22]

Verse 21: “The faithful and their descendants who followed them in faith - We will make their descendants join them, and We will not stint anything from [the reward of] their deeds. Every person is hostage to what he has earned.”

وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَاتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُمْ بِإِيمَانٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَا أَلَتْنَاهُمْ مِنْ عَمَلِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ٢١ في الكافي، بإسناده عن أبي بكر عن أبي عبد الله : في قول الله عز و جل:«وَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ اتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُمْ بِإِيمانٍ- أَلْحَقْنا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ‏» قَالَ فَقَالَ قَصَرَتِ‏ الْأَبْنَاءُ عَنْ‏ عَمَلِ‏ الْآبَاءِ فَأَلْحَقُوا الْأَبْنَاءَ بِالْآبَاءِ لِتَقَرَّ بِذَلِكَ أَعْيُنُهُمْ

It has been narrated in Al-Kafi from Abu Bakr, that Abu Abdillah said regarding this verse, ‘The faithful and their descendants who followed them in faith - We will make their descendants join them’ that: “The deeds of the offspring are less than that of their fathers, so the offspring will be made to join their fathers so that they be a comfort for them.” [23]

About Surah: At-Tur

This is a late Makki Surah and is named after the mountain by which Allaah (SWT) swears, among other things, that indeed the punishment of Allaah (SWT) will surely come into effect upon the disbelievers. The believers will be blessed with the rewards of Paradise, and their descendants who followed them in faith will join them together in enjoying the blessings. They will recall their state and conversation of the life on earth, and be grateful for Allaah’s mercy on them.

The disbelievers accused the Prophet ﷺ of having fabricated the Qur’an, Allaah (SWT) says to them that they should try to reproduce something similar if they think it is the work of a man. Allaah (SWT) poses a series of questions to the disbelievers, questioning their authority on what they allege about the Prophet ﷺ or the Qur’an while appealing to their rationale to see the truth.

أقسم الله بالطور، وهو الجبل الذي كلَّم الله سبحانه وتعالى موسى عليه، وبكتاب مكتوب، وهو القرآن في صحف منشورة، وبالبيت المعمور في السماء بالملائكة الكرام الذين يطوفون به دائمًا، وبالسقف المرفوع وهو السماء الدنيا، وبالبحر المسجور المملوء بالمياه. '>بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالطُّورِ 1 أقسم الله بالطور، وهو الجبل الذي كلَّم الله سبحانه وتعالى موسى عليه، وبكتاب مكتوب، وهو القرآن في صحف منشورة، وبالبيت المعمور في السماء بالملائكة الكرام الذين يطوفون به دائمًا، وبالسقف المرفوع وهو السماء الدنيا، وبالبحر المسجور المملوء بالمياه. '>وَكِتَابٍ مَسْطُورٍ 2 أقسم الله بالطور، وهو الجبل الذي كلَّم الله سبحانه وتعالى موسى عليه، وبكتاب مكتوب، وهو القرآن في صحف منشورة، وبالبيت المعمور في السماء بالملائكة الكرام الذين يطوفون به دائمًا، وبالسقف المرفوع وهو السماء الدنيا، وبالبحر المسجور المملوء بالمياه. '>فِي رَقٍّ مَنْشُورٍ 3 أقسم الله بالطور، وهو الجبل الذي كلَّم الله سبحانه وتعالى موسى عليه، وبكتاب مكتوب، وهو القرآن في صحف منشورة، وبالبيت المعمور في السماء بالملائكة الكرام الذين يطوفون به دائمًا، وبالسقف المرفوع وهو السماء الدنيا، وبالبحر المسجور المملوء بالمياه. '>وَالْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ 4 أقسم الله بالطور، وهو الجبل الذي كلَّم الله سبحانه وتعالى موسى عليه، وبكتاب مكتوب، وهو القرآن في صحف منشورة، وبالبيت المعمور في السماء بالملائكة الكرام الذين يطوفون به دائمًا، وبالسقف المرفوع وهو السماء الدنيا، وبالبحر المسجور المملوء بالمياه. '>وَالسَّقْفِ الْمَرْفُوعِ 5 أقسم الله بالطور، وهو الجبل الذي كلَّم الله سبحانه وتعالى موسى عليه، وبكتاب مكتوب، وهو القرآن في صحف منشورة، وبالبيت المعمور في السماء بالملائكة الكرام الذين يطوفون به دائمًا، وبالسقف المرفوع وهو السماء الدنيا، وبالبحر المسجور المملوء بالمياه. '>وَالْبَحْرِ الْمَسْجُورِ 6 إن عذاب ربك -أيها الرسول- بالكفار لَواقع، ليس له مِن مانع يمنعه حين وقوعه، يوم تتحرك السماء فيختلُّ نظامها وتضطرب أجزاؤها، وذلك عند نهاية الحياة الدنيا، وتزول الجبال عن أماكنها، وتسير كسير السحاب. '>إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَاقِعٌ 7 إن عذاب ربك -أيها الرسول- بالكفار لَواقع، ليس له مِن مانع يمنعه حين وقوعه، يوم تتحرك السماء فيختلُّ نظامها وتضطرب أجزاؤها، وذلك عند نهاية الحياة الدنيا، وتزول الجبال عن أماكنها، وتسير كسير السحاب. '>مَا لَهُ مِنْ دَافِعٍ 8 إن عذاب ربك -أيها الرسول- بالكفار لَواقع، ليس له مِن مانع يمنعه حين وقوعه، يوم تتحرك السماء فيختلُّ نظامها وتضطرب أجزاؤها، وذلك عند نهاية الحياة الدنيا، وتزول الجبال عن أماكنها، وتسير كسير السحاب. '>يَوْمَ تَمُورُ السَّمَاءُ مَوْرًا 9 إن عذاب ربك -أيها الرسول- بالكفار لَواقع، ليس له مِن مانع يمنعه حين وقوعه، يوم تتحرك السماء فيختلُّ نظامها وتضطرب أجزاؤها، وذلك عند نهاية الحياة الدنيا، وتزول الجبال عن أماكنها، وتسير كسير السحاب. '>وَتَسِيرُ الْجِبَالُ سَيْرًا 10 فهلاك في هذا اليوم واقع بالمكذبين الذين هم في خوض بالباطل يلعبون به، ويتخذون دينهم هزوًا ولعبًا. '>فَوَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ 11 فهلاك في هذا اليوم واقع بالمكذبين الذين هم في خوض بالباطل يلعبون به، ويتخذون دينهم هزوًا ولعبًا. '>الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي خَوْضٍ يَلْعَبُونَ 12 يوم يُدْفَع هؤلاء المكذبون دفعًا بعنف ومَهانة إلى نار جهنم، ويقال توبيخًا لهم: هذه هي النار التي كنتم بها تكذِّبون. '>يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا 13 يوم يُدْفَع هؤلاء المكذبون دفعًا بعنف ومَهانة إلى نار جهنم، ويقال توبيخًا لهم: هذه هي النار التي كنتم بها تكذِّبون. '>هَٰذِهِ النَّارُ الَّتِي كُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ 14 أفسحر ما تشاهدونه من العذاب أم أنتم لا تنظرون؟ ذوقوا حرَّ هذه النار، فاصبروا على ألمها وشدتها، أو لا تصبروا على ذلك، فلن يُخَفَّف عنكم العذاب، ولن تخرجوا منها، سواء عليكم صبرتم أم لم تصبروا، إنما تُجزون ما كنتم تعملون في الدنيا. '>أَفَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَا أَمْ أَنْتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ 15 أفسحر ما تشاهدونه من العذاب أم أنتم لا تنظرون؟ ذوقوا حرَّ هذه النار، فاصبروا على ألمها وشدتها، أو لا تصبروا على ذلك، فلن يُخَفَّف عنكم العذاب، ولن تخرجوا منها، سواء عليكم صبرتم أم لم تصبروا، إنما تُجزون ما كنتم تعملون في الدنيا. '>اصْلَوْهَا فَاصْبِرُوا أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ 16 إن المتقين في جنات ونعيم عظيم، يتفكهون بما آتاهم الله من النعيم من أصناف الملاذِّ المختلفة، ونجَّاهم الله من عذاب النار. '>إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَعِيمٍ 17 إن المتقين في جنات ونعيم عظيم، يتفكهون بما آتاهم الله من النعيم من أصناف الملاذِّ المختلفة، ونجَّاهم الله من عذاب النار. '>فَاكِهِينَ بِمَا آتَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ 18 كلوا طعامًا هنيئًا، واشربوا شرابًا سائغًا؛ جزاء بما عملتم من أعمال صالحة في الدنيا. وهم متكئون على سرر متقابلة، وزوَّجناهم بنساء بيض واسعات العيون حسانهنَّ. '>كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ 19 كلوا طعامًا هنيئًا، واشربوا شرابًا سائغًا؛ جزاء بما عملتم من أعمال صالحة في الدنيا. وهم متكئون على سرر متقابلة، وزوَّجناهم بنساء بيض واسعات العيون حسانهنَّ. '>مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَصْفُوفَةٍ ۖ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُمْ بِحُورٍ عِينٍ 20 والذين آمنوا واتبعتهم ذريتهم في الإيمان، وألحقنا بهم ذريتهم في منزلتهم في الجنة، وإن لم يبلغوا عمل آبائهم؛ لتَقَرَّ أعين الآباء بالأبناء عندهم في منازلهم، فيُجْمَع بينهم على أحسن الأحوال، وما نقصناهم شيئًا من ثواب أعمالهم. كل إنسان مرهون بعمله، لا يحمل ذنب غيره من الناس. '>وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَاتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُمْ بِإِيمَانٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَا أَلَتْنَاهُمْ مِنْ عَمَلِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ۚ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ 21 وزدناهم على ما ذُكر من النعيم فواكه ولحومًا مما يستطاب ويُشتهى، ومن هذا النعيم أنهم يتعاطَوْن في الجنة كأسًا من الخمر، يناول أحدهم صاحبه؛ ليتم بذلك سرورهم، وهذا الشراب مخالف لخمر الدنيا، فلا يزول به عقل صاحبه، ولا يحصل بسببه لغو، ولا كلام فيه إثم أو معصية. '>وَأَمْدَدْنَاهُمْ بِفَاكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ 22 وزدناهم على ما ذُكر من النعيم فواكه ولحومًا مما يستطاب ويُشتهى، ومن هذا النعيم أنهم يتعاطَوْن في الجنة كأسًا من الخمر، يناول أحدهم صاحبه؛ ليتم بذلك سرورهم، وهذا الشراب مخالف لخمر الدنيا، فلا يزول به عقل صاحبه، ولا يحصل بسببه لغو، ولا كلام فيه إثم أو معصية. '>يَتَنَازَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا لَا لَغْوٌ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌ 23 ويطوف عليهم غلمان مُعَدُّون لخدمتهم، كأنهم في الصفاء والبياض والتناسق لؤلؤ مصون في أصدافه. '>۞ وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌ لَهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ مَكْنُونٌ 24 وأقبل أهل الجنة، يسأل بعضهم بعضًا عن عظيم ما هم فيه وسببه، قالوا: إنا كنا قبل في الدنيا- ونحن بين أهلينا- خائفين ربنا، مشفقين من عذابه وعقابه يوم القيامة. فمنَّ الله علينا بالهداية والتوفيق، ووقانا عذاب سموم جهنم، وهو نارها وحرارتها. إنا كنا من قبلُ نضرع إليه وحده لا نشرك معه غيره أن يقينا عذاب السَّموم ويوصلنا إلى النعيم، فاستجاب لنا وأعطانا سؤالنا، إنه هو البَرُّ الرحيم. فمن بِره ورحمته إيانا أنالنا رضاه والجنة، ووقانا مِن سخطه والنار. '>وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ 25 وأقبل أهل الجنة، يسأل بعضهم بعضًا عن عظيم ما هم فيه وسببه، قالوا: إنا كنا قبل في الدنيا- ونحن بين أهلينا- خائفين ربنا، مشفقين من عذابه وعقابه يوم القيامة. فمنَّ الله علينا بالهداية والتوفيق، ووقانا عذاب سموم جهنم، وهو نارها وحرارتها. إنا كنا من قبلُ نضرع إليه وحده لا نشرك معه غيره أن يقينا عذاب السَّموم ويوصلنا إلى النعيم، فاستجاب لنا وأعطانا سؤالنا، إنه هو البَرُّ الرحيم. فمن بِره ورحمته إيانا أنالنا رضاه والجنة، ووقانا مِن سخطه والنار. '>قَالُوا إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِي أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ 26 وأقبل أهل الجنة، يسأل بعضهم بعضًا عن عظيم ما هم فيه وسببه، قالوا: إنا كنا قبل في الدنيا- ونحن بين أهلينا- خائفين ربنا، مشفقين من عذابه وعقابه يوم القيامة. فمنَّ الله علينا بالهداية والتوفيق، ووقانا عذاب سموم جهنم، وهو نارها وحرارتها. إنا كنا من قبلُ نضرع إليه وحده لا نشرك معه غيره أن يقينا عذاب السَّموم ويوصلنا إلى النعيم، فاستجاب لنا وأعطانا سؤالنا، إنه هو البَرُّ الرحيم. فمن بِره ورحمته إيانا أنالنا رضاه والجنة، ووقانا مِن سخطه والنار. '>فَمَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَانَا عَذَابَ السَّمُومِ 27 وأقبل أهل الجنة، يسأل بعضهم بعضًا عن عظيم ما هم فيه وسببه، قالوا: إنا كنا قبل في الدنيا- ونحن بين أهلينا- خائفين ربنا، مشفقين من عذابه وعقابه يوم القيامة. فمنَّ الله علينا بالهداية والتوفيق، ووقانا عذاب سموم جهنم، وهو نارها وحرارتها. إنا كنا من قبلُ نضرع إليه وحده لا نشرك معه غيره أن يقينا عذاب السَّموم ويوصلنا إلى النعيم، فاستجاب لنا وأعطانا سؤالنا، إنه هو البَرُّ الرحيم. فمن بِره ورحمته إيانا أنالنا رضاه والجنة، ووقانا مِن سخطه والنار. '>إِنَّا كُنَّا مِنْ قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْبَرُّ الرَّحِيمُ 28 فذكِّر -أيها الرسول- مَن أُرسلت إليهم بالقرآن، فما أنت بإنعام الله عليك بالنبوة ورجاحة العقل بكاهن يخبر بالغيب دون علم، ولا مجنون لا يعقل ما يقول كما يَدَّعون. '>فَذَكِّرْ فَمَا أَنْتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ 29 أم يقول المشركون لك -أيها الرسول-: هو شاعر ننتظر به نزول الموت؟ قل لهم: انتظروا موتي فإني معكم من المنتظرين بكم العذاب، وسترون لمن تكون العاقبة. '>أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِهِ رَيْبَ الْمَنُونِ 30 أم يقول المشركون لك -أيها الرسول-: هو شاعر ننتظر به نزول الموت؟ قل لهم: انتظروا موتي فإني معكم من المنتظرين بكم العذاب، وسترون لمن تكون العاقبة. '>قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا فَإِنِّي مَعَكُمْ مِنَ الْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ 31 بل أتأمر هؤلاء المكذبين عقولهم بهذا القول المتناقض (ذلك أن صفات الكهانة والشعر والجنون لا يمكن اجتماعها في آن واحد)، بل هم قوم متجاوزون الحدَّ في الطغيان. '>أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَامُهُمْ بِهَٰذَا ۚ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ 32 بل أيقول هؤلاء المشركون، اختلق محمد القرآن من تلقاء نفسه؟ بل هم لا يؤمنون، فلو آمنوا لم يقولوا ما قالوه. '>أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُ ۚ بَلْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ 33 فليأتوا بكلام مثل القرآن، إن كانوا صادقين- في زعمهم- أن محمدًا اختلقه. '>فَلْيَأْتُوا بِحَدِيثٍ مِثْلِهِ إِنْ كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ 34 أخُلِق هؤلاء المشركون من غير خالق لهم وموجد، أم هم الخالقون لأنفسهم؟ وكلا الأمرين باطل ومستحيل. وبهذا يتعيَّن أن الله سبحانه هو الذي خلقهم، وهو وحده الذي لا تنبغي العبادة ولا تصلح إلا له. '>أَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ الْخَالِقُونَ 35 أم خَلَقوا السموات والأرض على هذا الصنع البديع؟ بل هم لا يوقنون بعذاب الله، فهم مشركون. '>أَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ۚ بَلْ لَا يُوقِنُونَ 36 أم عندهم خزائن ربك يتصرفون فيها، أم هم الجبارون المتسلطون على خلق الله بالقهر والغلبة؟ ليس الأمر كذلك، بل هم العاجزون الضعفاء. '>أَمْ عِنْدَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ الْمُصَيْطِرُونَ 37 أم لهم مصعد إلى السماء يستمعون فيه الوحي بأن الذي هم عليه حق؟ فليأت مَن يزعم أنه استمع ذلك بحجة بينة تصدِّق دعواه. '>أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُمْ بِسُلْطَانٍ مُبِينٍ 38 ألِلهِ سبحانه البنات ولكم البنون كما تزعمون افتراء وكذبًا؟ '>أَمْ لَهُ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَكُمُ الْبَنُونَ 39 أتسأل -أيها الرسول- هؤلاء المشركون أجرًا على تبليغ الرسالة، فهم في جهد ومشقة من التزام غرامة تطلبها منهم؟ '>أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُمْ مِنْ مَغْرَمٍ مُثْقَلُونَ 40 أم عندهم علم الغيب فهم يكتبونه للناس ويخبرونهم به؟ ليس الأمر كذلك؛ فإنه لا يعلم الغيب في السموات والأرض إلا الله. '>أَمْ عِنْدَهُمُ الْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ 41 بل يريدون برسول الله وبالمؤمنين مكرًا، فالذين كفروا يرجع كيدهم ومكرهم على أنفسهم. '>أَمْ يُرِيدُونَ كَيْدًا ۖ فَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا هُمُ الْمَكِيدُونَ 42 أم لهم معبود يستحق العبادة غير الله؟ تنزَّه وتعالى عما يشركون، فليس له شريك فى الملك، ولا شريك في الوحدانية والعبادة. '>أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ ۚ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ 43 وإن ير هؤلاء المشركون قطعًا من السماء ساقطًا عليهم عذابًا لهم لم ينتقلوا عما هم عليه من التكذيب، ولقالوا: هذا سحاب متراكم بعضه فوق بعض. '>وَإِنْ يَرَوْا كِسْفًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ سَاقِطًا يَقُولُوا سَحَابٌ مَرْكُومٌ 44 فدع -أيها الرسول- هؤلاء المشركين حتى يلاقوا يومهم الذي فيه يُهْلكون، وهو يوم القيامة. '>فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ 45 وفي ذلك اليوم لا يَدْفع عنهم كيدهم من عذاب الله شيئًا، ولا ينصرهم ناصر من عذاب الله. '>يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْئًا وَلَا هُمْ يُنْصَرُونَ 46 وإن لهؤلاء الظلمة عذابًا يلقونه في الدنيا قبل عذاب يوم القيامة من القتل والسبي وعذاب البرزخ وغير ذلك، ولكن أكثرهم لا يعلمون ذلك. '>وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا عَذَابًا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ 47 واصبر -أيها الرسول- لحكم ربك وأمره فيما حَمَّلك من الرسالة، وعلى ما يلحقك من أذى قومك، فإنك بمرأى منا وحفظ واعتناء، وسبِّح بحمد ربك حين تقوم إلى الصلاة، وحين تقوم من نومك، ومن الليل فسبِّح بحمد ربك وعظِّمه، وصلِّ له، وافعل ذلك عند صلاة الصبح وقت إدبار النجوم. وفي هذه الآية إثبات لصفة العينين لله تعالى بما يليق به، دون تشبيه بخلقه أو تكييف لذاته، سبحانه وبحمده، كما ثبت ذلك بالسنة، وأجمع عليه سلف الأمة، واللفظ ورد هنا بصيغة الجمع للتعظيم. بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالطُّورِ 1 وَكِتَابٍ مَسْطُورٍ 2 فِي رَقٍّ مَنْشُورٍ 3 وَالْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ 4 وَالسَّقْفِ الْمَرْفُوعِ 5 وَالْبَحْرِ الْمَسْجُورِ 6 إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَاقِعٌ 7 مَا لَهُ مِنْ دَافِعٍ 8 يَوْمَ تَمُورُ السَّمَاءُ مَوْرًا 9 وَتَسِيرُ الْجِبَالُ سَيْرًا 10 فَوَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ 11 الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي خَوْضٍ يَلْعَبُونَ 12 يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا 13 هَٰذِهِ النَّارُ الَّتِي كُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ 14 أَفَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَا أَمْ أَنْتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ 15 اصْلَوْهَا فَاصْبِرُوا أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ 16 إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَعِيمٍ 17 فَاكِهِينَ بِمَا آتَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ 18 كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ 19 مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَصْفُوفَةٍ ۖ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُمْ بِحُورٍ عِينٍ 20 وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَاتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُمْ بِإِيمَانٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَا أَلَتْنَاهُمْ مِنْ عَمَلِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ۚ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ 21 وَأَمْدَدْنَاهُمْ بِفَاكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ 22 يَتَنَازَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا لَا لَغْوٌ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌ 23 وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌ لَهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ مَكْنُونٌ 24 وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ 25 قَالُوا إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِي أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ 26 فَمَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَانَا عَذَابَ السَّمُومِ 27 إِنَّا كُنَّا مِنْ قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْبَرُّ الرَّحِيمُ 28 فَذَكِّرْ فَمَا أَنْتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ 29 أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِهِ رَيْبَ الْمَنُونِ 30 قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا فَإِنِّي مَعَكُمْ مِنَ الْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ 31 أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَامُهُمْ بِهَٰذَا ۚ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ 32 أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُ ۚ بَلْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ 33 فَلْيَأْتُوا بِحَدِيثٍ مِثْلِهِ إِنْ كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ 34 أَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ الْخَالِقُونَ 35 أَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ۚ بَلْ لَا يُوقِنُونَ 36 أَمْ عِنْدَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ الْمُصَيْطِرُونَ 37 أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُمْ بِسُلْطَانٍ مُبِينٍ 38 أَمْ لَهُ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَكُمُ الْبَنُونَ 39 أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُمْ مِنْ مَغْرَمٍ مُثْقَلُونَ 40 أَمْ عِنْدَهُمُ الْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ 41 أَمْ يُرِيدُونَ كَيْدًا ۖ فَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا هُمُ الْمَكِيدُونَ 42 أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ ۚ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ 43 وَإِنْ يَرَوْا كِسْفًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ سَاقِطًا يَقُولُوا سَحَابٌ مَرْكُومٌ 44 فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ 45 يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْئًا وَلَا هُمْ يُنْصَرُونَ 46 وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا عَذَابًا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ 47 وَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا ۖ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ 48 وَمِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَإِدْبَارَ النُّجُومِ 49

1 Par At-Tûr !

2 Et par un Livre écrit

3 sur un parchemin déployé !

4 Et par la Maison peuplée !

5 Et par la Voûte élevée !

6 Et par la Mer portée à ébullition ! (au Jour dernier)

7 Le châtiment de ton Seigneur aura lieu inévitablement.

8 Nul ne pourra le repousser.

9 Le jour où le ciel sera agité d'un tourbillonnement,

10 et les montagnes se mettront en marche.

11 Ce jour-là, malheur à ceux qui traitent (les signes d'Allah) de mensonges,

12 ceux qui s'ébattent dans des discours frivoles

13 le jour où ils seront brutalement poussés au feu de l'Enfer:

14 Voilà le feu que vous traitiez de mensonge.

15 Est-ce que cela est de la magie ? Ou bien ne voyez-vous pas clair ?

16 Brûlez dedans ! Supportez ou ne supportez pas, ce sera égal pour vous: vous n'êtes rétribués que selon ce que vous faisiez.

17 Les pieux seront dans des Jardins et dans des délices,

18 se réjouissant de ce que leur Seigneur leur aura donné, et leur Seigneur les aura protégés du châtiment de la Fournaise.

19 « En récompense de ce que vous faisiez, mangez et buvez en toute sérénité,

20 accoudés sur des lits bien rangés », et Nous leur ferons épouser des houris aux grands yeux noirs,

21 Ceux qui auront cru et que leurs descendants auront suivis dans la foi, Nous ferons que leurs descendants les rejoignent. Et Nous ne diminuerons en rien le mérite de leurs œuvres, chacun étant tenu responsable de ce qu'il aura acquis.

22 Nous les pourvoirons abondamment des fruits et des viandes qu'ils désireront.

23 Là, ils se passeront les uns les autres une coupe qui ne provoquera ni vanité ni incrimination.

24 Et parmi eux circuleront des garçons à leur service, pareils à des perles bien conservées.

25 Et ils se tourneront les uns vers les autres s'interrogeant;

26 Ils diront: « Nous vivions au milieu des nôtres dans la crainte [d'Allah];

27 Puis Allah nous a favorisés et protégés du châtiment du Samûm.

28 Antérieurement, nous L'invoquions. C'est Lui certes, le Charitable, le Très Miséricordieux. »

29 Rappelle donc et par la grâce de ton Seigneur tu n'es ni un devin ni un possédé.

30 Ou bien ils disent: « C'est un poète ! Attendons pour lui le coup de la mort. »

31 Dis: « Attendez ! Je suis avec vous parmi ceux qui attendent. »

32 Est-ce leur raison qui leur commande cela ? Ou sont-ils des gens outranciers ?

33 Ou bien ils disent: « Il l'a inventé lui-même ? » Non... mais ils ne croient pas.

34 Eh bien, qu'ils produisent un récit pareil à lui (le Coran), s'ils sont véridiques.

35 Ont-ils été créés à partir de rien ou sont-ils eux les créateurs ?

36 Ou ont-ils créé les cieux et la terre ? Mais ils n'ont plutôt aucune conviction.

37 Possèdent-ils les trésors de ton Seigneur ? Ou sont-ils eux les maîtres souverains ?

38 Ont-ils une échelle d'où ils écoutent ? Que celui des leurs qui reste à l'écoute apporte une preuve évidente !

39 [Allah] aurait-Il les filles, tandis que vous, les fils ?

40 Ou leur demandes-tu un salaire, de sorte qu'ils soient grevés d'une lourde dette ?

41 Ou bien détiennent-ils l'Inconnaissable pour le mentionner par écrit ?

42 Ou cherchent-ils un stratagème ? Mais ce sont ceux qui ont mécru qui sont victimes de leur propre stratagème.

43 Ou ont-ils une autre divinité à part Allah ? Qu'Allah soit glorifié et purifié de tout ce qu'ils associent !

44 Et s'ils voient tomber des fragments du ciel, ils disent: « Ce sont des nuages superposés. »

45 Laisse-les donc, jusqu'à ce qu'ils rencontrent leur jour où ils seront foudroyés,

46 le jour où leur ruse ne leur servira à rien, où ils ne seront pas secourus.

47 Les injustes auront un châtiment préalable. Mais la plupart d'entre eux ne savent pas.

48 Et supporte patiemment la décision de ton Seigneur. Car en vérité, tu es sous Nos yeux. Et célèbre la gloire de ton Seigneur quand tu te lèves;

49 Glorifie-Le une partie de la nuit et au déclin des étoiles.
