• Perfect Town Guide

In New Leaf, you can improve your town until it is considered to be perfect, also known as "the best town ever!" When you have a perfect town, you may find Jacob's Ladder flowers growing near the cliffs, you may find valuable rare mushrooms buried near tree stumps, and most importantly, you can get the golden watering can if you maintain your perfect status for fifteen days straight!

Build More Public Works Projects

Plant more flowers, plant more trees, keep it clean, get villagers to move in, new public works projects, jacob's ladder flowers, rare mushrooms, golden watering can, how to get a perfect town.

You can check the quality of your town by talking to Isabelle at the front desk and asking her about citizen satisfaction. She will read comments from residents. If your town is not yet perfect, she will recommend some ways to improve it. If your town IS currently perfect, it will be described as "the best town ever!"

One of the things Isabelle might recommend when you ask about citizen satisifaction is to build more public works projects. This does not include building upgrades like the Museum Shop, Dream Suite, etc. It's based on public works projects that you build outside in your town, such as benches, fountains, the Reset Surveillance Center, street lights, and so on.

However! Certain public works projects actually reduce citizen satisfaction. These include bright lights and screens (e.g. the video screen, the illuminated arch, etc.) or things like the drilling rig, tire toy, or garbage can.

Having a large number of flowers in your town is very beneficial to citizen satisfaction, so be sure to buy and plant flowers from the garden center often. In New Leaf, you don't need to worry about having certain numbers of flowers per acre. It's just based on total number of flowers.

Also, if you plant the same type of flower next to each other (roses with roses, pansies with pansies, etc.) this can cause new flowers of the same type to grow nearby, and may cause hybrid flowers to grow.

In addition, if you have flowers of the same type in a group, your villagers might plant new flowers of the same type nearby, which helps increase your flower count more quickly.

Be sure to water your flowers. Wilting flowers don't contribute to your flower count. If you enact the beautiful town ordinance , you flowers almost never wilt. Note that if it rains in your town, it waters all of the flowers in your town that day.

If you don't have enough trees (regular trees, fruit trees, leafless trees, fully grown bamboo, palm trees, and possibly tree stumps) in your town, you can't have a perfect town, but if you have too many trees, this might decrease your citizen satisfaction. Isabelle's comments can help you figure this out. In New Leaf, you don't need to worry about having certain numbers of trees per acre. It's just based on total number of trees.

Citizen satisfaction is reduced if you have weeds or items on the ground, so be sure to pull weeds and remove litter from the ground. Things that DON'T count as litter are normal fruits, seashells, flowers, mushrooms, buried gyroids, buried unassessed fossils, and buried pitfall seeds. Almost everything else on the ground or buried underground is considered litter.

You can have up to ten villagers living in your town at a time. If you have fewer than ten, this can reduce citizen satisfaction.

Perfect Town Rewards

When you have a perfect town, you can get special items and public works projects.

The first time your town achieves "best town ever" status, Isabelle will add the Flower Clock and some Town Hall renovations to the list of public works projects. The Flower Clock improves citizen satisfaction a lot, so I strongly recommend that you build it!

If your town has perfect status, you may find white flowers at the tops of your cliffs with three bell-shaped blooms. These flowers are called Jacob's Ladders, and they only appear in your town if it has perfect status. However, Jacob's Ladders don't disappear if you lose your perfect town status, so it's possible to have Jacob's Ladders in your town even if you don't have a perfect town.

If you have tree stumps in your town, and your town currently has perfect status, you may find a rare mushroom buried near a tree stump in your town. This mushroom is quite valuable and only appears if your town has perfect status.

If you maintain your perfect town status for 15 days straight, Isabelle will give you the Golden Watering can on the fifteenth day when you ask her about citizen satisfaction. The golden watering can allows you to water nine flowers at a time. Read the golden and silver tools page for more information about the golden watering can.

10. Crystal

animal crossing new leaf town tour

Crystal's owner: mayorchibi.tumblr.com

Crystal's Dream Address: 4C00-0012-3E90

A kawaii pastel town covered head to toe in flowers and prettiness. It is themed after Sailor moon and looks like it came right out of the anime itself!

What’s Great About Crystal?

  • Each home is themed after a different sailor scout.
  • The landscaping is beautiful and girly! The pink and white cosmos keep the theme throughout the town.
  • The homes are a bit messy, but I think the homes are such a good reflection of each character. I really felt nostalgic going through Crystal. Anyone who is a fan of Sailor Moon should stop by this lovely town!

9. Bleualpe

animal crossing new leaf town tour

Bleualpe Dream Address:5F00-00B0-ED4D

Bleualpe Owner: tumblr @montiblue

This is a beautiful Autumn themed town and has a cozy fall feel to its landscape. I would describe Bleualpe as a “mountain town” that makes you feel like cuddling up with a cup of hot cocoa. It’s forest-y and the cabins are somewhere I personally would go to get away and relax!

What’s Great About Bleualpe?

  • The grocery store is by far one of my favorite parts of this town. It reminded me of the little shop in Frozen. Super quaint!
  •  Every room is packed full of furniture that makes the homes feel “lived in”. The style is extremely eclectic.
  • Out of all the towns this town felt like the one I would choose to live in.
  • The only town on the list set in Fall.

8. Hitokui (cannibal town)

This town has disturbing concepts and features gore. Please take that into consideration before visiting Hitokui.

animal crossing new leaf town tour

Hitokui's DA: 1C00-0077-A492

Although I’m not sure there is a clear story behind this town, it’s very clear something very bad has occurred in many of these homes and around town.

What’s Great About Hitokui?

  • This is one of the goriest/creepiest towns I have visited.
  • The QR codes were handmade which was by far the scariest part of the town.
  • Even though the story isn’t apparent, the placement of furniture and patterns explains enough to let you in on some very dark secrets about the townspeople being cannibals.
  • The scary theme extends past the homes and out into the town as well. Each home/room got scary and I found myself excited to see what was in store next!

City's Dream Address: 4A00-00D8-552B

City's creator: snootyleaf.tumblr.com

This town really does feel like a REAL city! This town is very symmetrical and detail oriented. The modern architecture of the house really makes it feel like a “city”.

What’s Great About City?

  • Everything is so perfect and symmetrical about the landscaping. I imagine this took months upon months of planning and it came out great!
  • I have never seen paths like this. So different! They literally made roads out of QR codes. You can practically imagine cars driving up and down the roads.
  • The town feels so realistic. It includes sidewalks, parks, streetlights and even front yards for every villager! Great inspiration for any Animal Crossing player.

6. Aquarine

animal crossing new leaf town tour

Aquarine's Dream Address: 4D00-0069-45F9

Aquarine's creator: mayor-nicola.tumblr.com

Aquarine is a floral filled town that has been “hacked”. It has a messy natural feel and is just so pleasant to visit!

What’s Great About Aquarine?

  • The homes are extremely cozy, and one can only WISH they were a villager in this quaint town.
  • The landscaping has a messy-ness to it, but it definitely had quite a bit of thought put into it.
  • The homes are different sizes and even the tiniest of homes are adorable. The town is full of great ideas and great inspiration. I have gathered a lot of ideas from this very town for my own!

animal crossing new leaf town tour

Kodama's creator: mischacrossing.com

Kodama's Dream Address: 5F00-000F-7BCA

An overgrown “hacked” forest-y town. Kodama is a lovely evening set town that is very spiritual! It has been made by the Youtuber who creates most of these videos! So, you know she has some great concepts for her towns.

What’s Great About Kodama?

  • This town has some Princess Mononoke references that are subtle but adorable.
  • The witches’ huts are creative and stay on theme.
  • The amount of work that was put into furnishing these homes (that are FULL of furniture) must have taken so much time and planning. I can really appreciate the time and work that was put into these designs.

4. Darkcove (scary town)

This town will be disturbing/scary so please be aware before visiting!

animal crossing new leaf town tour

Darkcove's Dream Address: 6F00-0017-4272

Darkcove’s Creator: tumblr.com/blog/darkcoveanimalcrossing

This town tells a creepy story and homes must be visited in order to tell this town’s history.

What’s Great About Darkcove?

  • This town isn’t only decorated very creepy but has an interesting story behind it as well.
  • They creator made patterns that are no doubt the scariest part of this entire town.
  • The town actually has nice landscaping despite the eerie atmosphere.
  • I really enjoyed the story and often thought about it throughout the week! Spooky!

3. Citalune

animal crossing new leaf town tour

CitĂ lune's Dream Addess: 4F00-001F-F5E6

CitĂ lune's creator: aforestlife.tumblr.com

A uniquely themed town based off the sun and the moon sides of town. The creator really stuck to the theme and you can tell every detail had a lot of thought put into it.

What’s Great About Citalune?

  • The town is divided into two different sides. The “sun” side of town and the “moon” side of town. Everything is changed depending on the side of town. The flowers, the home dĂ©cor and even the villagers were themed depending on the side of town they reside in.
  • Each side of town has its own ruler.
  • This town has been “hacked” so keep that in mind when trying to incorporate some of the towns landscape.
  • The entire town has a very ethereal feel to it. Very Dreamy and relaxing.

 2.  Crescent

animal crossing new leaf town tour

Crescent’s Dream Address:5A00-00FA-7032

Crescent’s Creator: Ariel

A sleepy creative little town set in April at 11pm. Crescent is one of the most creative towns I have seen. This town has a very “home-y” feel to it. There was a pleasant surprise in every home!

What’s Great About Crescent?

  • Each home in this town has a unique themed room.
  • Each room is a town necessity!
  • This town is practical and has everything a villager may need to run every day normal errands!
  • The gym in the town is especially great! The library and bank feel very realistic and looks similar to the ones in my hometown.

animal crossing new leaf town tour

Imori's Dream Address: 4D00-0107-F79A

Imori's creator: http://studiojillbli.tumblr.com

A beautiful leafy green town with a Totoro themed house and even a Kiki’s Delivery themed home. I can only imagine getting the town to replicate homes in the movies was a difficult task and most likely took months to complete. This is such a detailed town and is by far one of my favorite dream addresses to visit! Hope you guys enjoy!

What’s Great About Imori:

  • This town is a themed town with a Studio Ghibli theme
  • It is a “hacked” town, so keep that in mind if you are trying to recreate some of its features.
  • The details and patterns are handmade QR codes
  • The resemblance to the Studio Ghibli moves is uncanny and you can tell right away what movie is being portrayed.

Island tour

There are a wide number of different tours available and they each come in three different difficulties. At first, only the easy tours can be selected, and by earning 50 medals, medium tours can be unlocked. Earning approximately 120 medals will then unlock the hard tours. A selection of 12 tours will be available from Leilani at any point in time and they change randomly every day at 12 AM. Course tours (tours with easy, official, and elite variants) will always appear as a set.

Once a tour is selected, all players on the island must be seated to begin. In Club Tortimer, only the player who initiated the tour has to be seated before the tour begins, and non-seated players will be left behind. The player can choose to play a game with other visiting players, or by themselves. Medals are earned from tour objectives and bonus medals are awarded for bronze, silver, or gold achievements in each tour.

In multiplayer, the required score for a game's medal milestone is often multiplied by the number of participating players. Additionally, in a select few games, bonus medals are awarded to each player depending on how much they contributed and the difficulty of the tour.

Up to four tour categories are available per day, from the following: Balloon-Hunt, Bug Catching, Diving, Fishing, Gardening, Fossil-Hunting, Labyrinth, Ore-Hunting, Hammering, Item-Matching, Hide-and-Seek, Scavenger Hunting. Each of these four available tour categories will pick one each of their respective subcategory(s).

There are three difficulties for each island tour: Easy, Official, and Elite. Initially, only Easy is unlocked, but the second tier can also be unlocked too if the player has earned at least 5 gold medals of any category, or 15 with the third tier.

Balloon-Hunt [ ]

At the start of the tour, the slingshot will be automatically equipped. The aim of the Balloon-Hunt is to shoot down as many balloons floating in the air as possible. On the lower screen of the Nintendo 3DS will be a wind indicator which will indicate the direction the balloons will be flying in, as well as the location of a balloon. Regular balloons are worth one point and bunny balloons are worth three points.

During multiplayer, the balloons on the map are multiplied by the number of players participating. Each player will be allocated a color and can only pop balloons of their associated color.

Bug Catching [ ]

Fishing [ ]

The goal of this tour is to catch the most fish before time runs out. The fishing tours comes in several varieties with different parameters and gameplay. In tours in which the player is restricted to catching ocean fish only, the tour will take place on an island that has ocean on all four sides, and rivers will not be present.

Fishing Tour

Gardening Tour [ ]

Gardening

Fossil Hunter Tours [ ]

The objective of this tour is to dig up and find particular types of fossil . There are a pair of houses on the map. The one on the left is the "sample" house. It displays the required types and orientations of fossils the player will need. The house on the right is empty. The player must sort through the fossils they dug up for identical fossils and arrange them in the empty house exactly how they appear in the sample house.

During multiplayer, the number of houses that must be completed is equivalent to the number of players participating.

Digging up a fossil

Labyrinth Tours [ ]

When selecting this tour, a maze will be set up on the island made entirely out of bushes . Inside the maze there will be certain types of fruit which will be required to be collected in order to finish the tour. The fruit collected must be the specific fruit Tortimer requested, and the amount must be the exact amount requested by Tortimer. If the amount is less or exceeds the number requested, the entry will not be accepted.

Labyrinth Tour

Ore Tours [ ]

In this tour, players are situated in a randomly generated, unoccupied town filled with an abundance of rocks . The aim of the game is to earn as many points as possible by using the automatically equipped shovel to find breakable rocks and collect gemstones . Regular gemstones are worth one point, with one announced ore type worth 3 points. Later levels introduce a rarer, 10-point mystery ore.

Hammer Tour [ ]

Each player is equipped with a hammer . The aim of the hammer tour is to chase around a Cornimer remote control toy which must be hit with the hammer as many times as possible before the time runs out. When the toy reaches an obstacle it will turn in a random direction. The toy will occasionally flip over, leaving it vulnerable to a barrage of easy hits.

HammerTimeTour

Item-Matching [ ]

This tour is a memory game which requires locating a pair of items buried in the ground. Upon starting, a shovel will automatically be equipped for use during the game. When digging up an item, the corresponding pair must be found as well. If the next dug up item does not match the first, it will automatically be buried again until the matching item is found.

Item-Matching Tour

Hide and Seek [ ]

Just like the game that was introduced in City Folk , the aim of hide and seek is to find four villagers hiding on the Island. They may be hiding behind trees or fixtures. Villagers will not hide on the beach nor inside houses.

During multiplayer, the players have one less minute to complete the tour for each additional player participating in the tour.

Earning a gold medal on the Easy Hide-and-Seek Tour

Scavenger Hunt [ ]

This is a scavenger hunt game for finding certain types of furniture . The goal is to enter houses and pick up the furniture listed, then go back to Tortimer to deliver it. The targeted furniture is listed in the checklist located in the inventory menu. The checklist is also shared among the players, checking off the furniture on all of their checklists each time the correct furniture is delivered. The game is over if the time runs out or if all listed items are found. Furniture cannot be taken out of this tour.

In multiplayer, each player is given a list of three items to find. A house can only be occupied by one player at a time. The game ends as soon as the last player reports back to Tortimer.

Player in a house full of furniture

Medals are a form of currency used on the island in New Leaf . The player will earn medals by playing various tours.

The following items are available for sale on the island :

The following items are available for sale only through Club Tortimer :

  • It is possible to gather an abundance of foreign fruits from the islands the tours take place on. Fruit gathered during the tours will remain in the inventory regardless of whether or not the tour is completed. Since the tours will always have fruit to gather, one could easily obtain an inventory full of fruit to sell once they return to their town.
  • Tortimer will tell the player that they may take any leftover flowers from the tour if they ask him during the tour.
  • Silver - Glee
  • Bronze - Sunniness
  • Pass - Happiness (?)
  • Fail - Disinterest

The island is a place you can visit in Animal Crossing: New Leaf shortly after starting the game. For a mere 1,000 bells, you can have Kapp'n take you to the island from the dock in your town. You can easily make up that 1,000 bells by catching bugs and fish and collecting fruit and putting it in the take-home box, but that's not what this guide is for. Talk to the girl behind the counter and you can go on a selection of randomly selected tours, which are like minigames. You have a limited amount of time to complete a task, and depending on how you do, you get medals which can then be used to buy items in the island store. At first, you can only choose from a small selection of tours, but once you progress in the game further, you can choose from a larger selection.

This guide deals with all the tours you can encounter and the medals you can earn from each.

Essential to touring on the island are the tools. On tours you will be using the shovel, fishing rod, bug net, slingshot, and hammer. This section deals with how to use these items.

Tours that use this item

Press A to swing the net and catch any bug in front of you. Press and hold A to put the net in ready position, allowing you to walk slowly up to a bug. Release A to swing the net. The net has pretty far reach. Walking or running near almost any bug except the butterfly and dragonfly will make it fly away.

Press A to cast the line. It always goes the same distance every time, so use that to your advantage when trying to angle your line correctly. Once the hook is in the water and a fish sees it, it will start to nibble on it, until, after at most 4 nibbles, the fish will bite it and the bobber will dip underwater. Quickly press A once, and, if done correctly, your character will start struggling to get the fish out of the water, and after a second or two, will pull the fish out of the water. Pulling a fish out of the water makes all fish nearby swim away.

It helps to fish with the volume turned up. When the bobber goes underwater it makes a distinct sound, slightly before the animation. Whenever you hear that sound, press A.

Press A to hit whatever is in front of you with the hammer. Simple as that.

Press A to dig the shovel in the nearest possible dig location in the direction you're facing. The area is divided up into a grid, and you can only dig holes in these grid sections. For example,

If you are where the X is in the figure above, and the grid spots are where the _ are, and you are facing northwest, you will dig in the middle spot in the top row.

It's kind of hard to explain; it's best to just see for yourself.

Press and hold A to ready the slingshot, and release it to fire to hit anything above you. You'll want to stand directly on the shadow or a bit below it to hit a balloon. While you have the slingshot in ready position, the trees near the bottom of the screen disappear.

Though technically not a tool, I am including it here because the instructions for its use don't change based on what tour you are on.

While next to the water and facing it, press A if you are not holding any other items to enter the water. Use the circle pad to change direction, and press A repeatedly to swim. Press Y to dive to go for the dark spots in the water. Your character can't stay underwater forever, though, so eventually he/she will come back up for air. The longer your character is underwater, the faster your character swims. If your character gets a sea creature, he/she automatically surfaces. Otherwise, you can resurface yourself by pressing Y again. Your character changes direction much more quickly while underwater.

It is not necessary to hold the circle pad in the direction you are moving.

Some sea creatures swim very quickly away from you. Try to get as close as possible to them before you dive. While chasing them, they will always move away from you, so you can lead them away from unwanted areas. Sea creatures will outright disappear if they get to close to the beach, and they can, and will, swim outside of the outer boundary, out of your reach. For example, if you are in the water north of the island, and you see a dark spot close to the northern boundary, north of you, swim north, past the sea creature, then dive, so you actually land above the sea creature. That way it won't swim out-of-bounds.

Getting stung by a jellyfish will make you unable to move for about 10 seconds. Twirl the circle pad, though, and you'll only be stunned for 5 seconds.

There are two strategies for finding sea creatures with the Wet Suit. I have found success with both strategies.

Strategy #1: Run along the beach with the volume turned up. If you see or hear bubbles in the water, enter the water and swim towards the bubbles/dark spot, and dive to get it.

Strategy #2: Swim in the water, circling the island, going for any dark spots/bubbles you may see. Having the volume turned up may help, so if you hear any bubbles you can swim for them. Try to stay halfway between the beach and the outer boundary so you can see as much water as possible.

Each tour uses a tier system to determine how many medals you get. Meet a certain requirement, and you may get an award (Gold, Silver, or Bronze), which determines how many medals you get for the tour. You don't actually physically get the award; it's just the game's fancy way of telling you what tier you were and how many medals you got. Unfortunately, you don't get any additional medals for exceeding an award requirement. For example, some tours require you to collect a certain number of bugs. Catch twice the number to get a Gold, but catching any more will not net you more medals.

Also, the tier levels don't change as the tour moves up in difficulty. For example, in the Easy Scavenger Tour, the minimum requirement for a Gold is to finish with 2 minutes remaining or higher. The higher difficulty versions of that tour still have a minimum requirement of 2 minutes remaining or higher to get a Gold.

I have tested all the tours myself for the requirements for each award, and the number of medals you get for each award. However, I am not 100% sure of the requirements for the tours that count the bell value of the fish/bugs you collect, since it is difficult to control the bells you get. However, I have compared the requirements with tours that have a similar award system, so I've made my best guess. If you find something wrong, please let me know.

The tours change every night at midnight. Some of the tours from the previous day remain unchanged.

The tours are not random. On any given day (based on the date in Animal Crossing), everyone has the same tours. Whether or not the tours follow a predictable pattern in their appearance remains to be seen.

There are 64 tours in all.

To quickly see how many medals a tour gives you in relation to other tours, use these tables.

This group of tables has the tours listed by the type of tour (fishing, bug-catching, etc.).

Balloon Tours

Bug-catching tours, diving tours, fishing tours, fossil tours, gardening tours, hammer tours, hide-and-seek tours, item-related tours.

  • Time: 6 minutes
  • Difficulty: 3 stars
  • Description: Catch at least 20,000 bells worth of fish.
  • In-game description: Catch fish, and see their Bell value as your score rises. Only the most skilled anglers need apply for this tour!
  • Tips: Go for the largest fish in the river, as those are worth the most (10,000-15,000). Don't waste your time with the small fish.
  • Time: 5 minutes
  • Difficulty: 1 star
  • Description: Retrieve 3 items from the sea.
  • In-game description: A tour for beginners just learning the fine art of free diving. It's a great chance to practice the basics!
  • Tips: See the Wet Suit section.
  • Difficulty: 2 stars
  • Description: Catch at least 3 ancient fish (dorado, arapaima, coelcanth, etc.)
  • In-game description: A fishing tour that tasks you to find ancient fish in the river of a tropical island. Good for skilled anglers!
  • Tips: Go for any large fish in the river, as those will be the ones you'll want. Because this tour's focus is those rare fish, they will be much more common than usual.
  • Description: Catch 3 beetles.
  • In-game description: Dynastid and stag beetles are popular, and this tour wants to see you snag the most! Beginners welcome!
  • Tips: Beetles always appear on the trunks of trees. While you can catch the large rare beetles on the palm trees at the beach, those are much harder to catch and it's easier to just focus on the trees in the grass. Avoid running in this tour so you don't scare away any beetles.
  • Description: Catch 3 fish.
  • In-game description: Enjoy catch-and-release fishing on a warm tropical island. Beginners are more than welcome to play!
  • Tips: Should be easy enough. It doesn't matter what types of fish you catch, and you don't have to be too quick in pressing A once a fish bites.
  • Description: Catch 4 bugs.
  • In-game description: If bug catching is becoming your favorite activity, then join this intermediate tour and prove your skills!
  • Tips: Try to focus your efforts on the easier bugs to catch (like butterflies, etc.), but this one isn't too hard anyway.
  • Time: 7 minutes
  • Description: Catch 5 bugs. You're looking for centipedes, pill bugs, walking sticks, and mole crickets.
  • In-game description: Ready for a tough challenge to find mysterious bugs on a tropical island? Then sign up for this advanced bug tour!
  • Tips: This one isn't too hard. Centipedes and pill bugs can be found in rocks; just hit a rock with your shovel and a centipede or pill bug will probably come out. You will know a bug came out of a rock because there is a distinct "squishing" sound when a centipede or pill bug comes out. Walking sticks are found on tree trunks, so always be keeping an eye on those tree trunks and walk slowly with your net raised when you see one. Mole crickets are buried underground, so you need the shovel to dig them out. However, there are no visual cues to tell you that one is nearby; they do make a kind of whirring sound when you get near though. I don't recommend going for mole crickets because you'll end up wasting lots of time just trying to find them.
  • Description: Catch 3 butterflies.
  • In-game description: Are butterflies your thing? This tour tasks you with catching as many as you can net! Beginners welcome!
  • Tips: Doesn't matter the kind of butterfly. This tour is very easy.
  • Description: Catch 4 cicadas.
  • In-game description: Can't get enough of the cicada's call? Then this is the bug-hunting tour you'll enjoy most of all!
  • Tips: Cicadas always appear on the trunks of trees. Walk around looking at the trunks of trees. To help you, turn up the volume so you can hear the cicadas. When you see one sneak up on it by holding A then catch it when you get close.
  • In-game description: Enjoy catch-and-release fishing in the sea near a tropical island! Those with advanced skills welcome!
  • Tips: Nothing special you have to do here; it's just ordinary fishing. I would stick to the river though and not go to the ocean.
  • Description: Catch 3 crabs. Any type will do.
  • In-game description: Do crabs make you cringe? If not, then this beginners' free-diving tour may just be perfect for you!
  • Description: Catch 3 dangerous fish (like piranhas, rays, etc.).
  • In-game description: A tour asking you to catch dangerous fiver-dwelling fish on a tropical island. Waiting for skilled anglers to play!
  • Tips: Stay near the river and go for the small fish. Not the extremely tiny ones, just the small ones. Those will probably be piranhas.
  • Description: Catch 3 dragonflies of any kind.
  • In-game description: Feel like catching dragonflies on a tropical island? Then this is the tour for you! Beginners welcome!
  • Tips: Just run around the map and catch any dragonfly you see. Not too difficult.
  • Description: Get 20 points by shooting down balloons with your slingshot. Round balloons are worth 1 point, while the bunny balloons are worth 3 points.
  • In-game description: Looking for an excuse to pull out a slingshot and pop some balloons? Then this tour is for you! Beginners welcome!
  • Tips: Every time the wind changes, new balloons spawn, but approximately no more than 8 balloons can be on the map at any one time, so sometimes less or no balloons spawn depending on how many balloons are already on the map. The wind changes every 30 seconds, then every 20 seconds starting at 3:00 left. If you get all the balloons and are waiting for the next wave, try to stay near the center of the map so you can access any edge of the map quickly. Balloons will never spawn from the top or bottom; they will always spawn from the direct left or right, or one of the four corners.
  • Description: Catch 3 bugs.
  • In-game description: Feel like catching bugs while on a tropical getaway? This tour will let you do just that! Beginners welcome!
  • Tips: Don't run. You can find any type of common bug on this tour: beetle, grasshopper, butterfly, etc.
  • Time: 10 minutes
  • Description: Find 2 fossils, the ones shown in the sample room (the house on the left), and place them in the same orientation in the display room (the house on the right). The fossils are labeled.
  • In-game description: Are fossils your thing? Then grab your shovel, and start digging on this fossil-finding tour for beginners!
  • Tips: First head to the sample room and figure out which fossils you need. Then run around the map in the most efficient way possible so you cover the entire map, and dig on any X's you see to get a fossil. Once you get the two fossils you need, head to the display room and place the fossils in the same orientation as that shown in the sample room.
  • When you put a fossil in the right place, it will shine at the base.

The timer actually stops when you leave the house, once all the fossils are in the right place. It takes 6 seconds to get outside the house once walking out of it.

  • Description: Plant flowers in a 5x5 garden. The type or color doesn't matter.
  • In-game description: A gardening tour allowing visitors to enjoy decorating the flower bed with tropical flowers! Beginners welcome!
  • Tips: Nothing hard about this at all. Just grab any flower you see with Y then plant it in the brown square patch where you started.
  • Time: 3 minutes
  • Description: Hit the machine with the hammer at least 30 times.
  • In-game description: Looking for an excuse to run around and bop things with a toy hammer? Then this tour for beginners is for you!
  • Tips: It helps to run in front of the machine, then get in its path and hit it from the front repeatedly. That way the machine is pushing you along so you don't have to run up to it. This tour takes place in a closed off area, with no rocks or other obstacles. When the machine hits a wall, it changes direction.
  • Time: 8 minutes
  • Description: Find 4 animals.
  • In-game description: Enjoy a slow-paced hide-and-seek with the people on the island! Beginners can participate without worry.
  • Tips: To win you must talk to each animal in its hiding place. Pick a route to walk through the map so you cover everything in the most efficient way. The animals will be hiding behind trees or houses, and will occasionally tilt left or right to look out. It helps to press Up on the D-pad in deep forested areas to see, because the trees near the bottom of the screen disappear from view so you'll be able to see behind them. Otherwise you can keep an eye on the topmost trees on your screen, because you can see behind those much more easily because the leaves aren't in the way. If you are walking amongst trees and find yourself not able to pass a particular point, it just may be an animal you are looking for.
  • Description: Match items are buried in a 3x4 grid.
  • In-game description: Get out those shovels and start digging for matching items! Beginners are more than welcome for this tour!
  • Tips: Start by choosing one of the top-most corners and unburying that item. Then work your way downward, unburying each item. If you don't get a match, make a mental note of the item you just unburied and proceed down the column. Once you reach the end of the column, work your way up the next column, and so on. If you happen to make two mental notes of the same item, just remember the two locations that match, instead of the item names. If you find, say, 2 or 3 item pairs of an item you aren't looking for, bury the item you are currently looking for and match the items up. To bury the item that you are currently looking for, dig a hole and the game will ask if you want to bury the item.
  • If you feel so inclined to cheat and quickly write down all the items and their locations so you don't have to try to memorize it, you will need a partner. Even if it took just 5 seconds per item to write it down, that time adds up.
  • Description: Collect 5 of a particular type of fruit.
  • In-game description: Run around a natural maze and hunt for fruit. Can you beat the clock? Beginners are welcome on this tour!
  • Tips: Go for the lower paths first, so you can see a little of what's above so you can avoid wasting time. Try to remember which paths you've taken. Sometimes the bushes obscure your view of the fruit. If you ever need to turn around, instead of rapidly pushing the circle pad in the opposite direction, smoothly make a "U-turn" with the circle pad. This faster method of turning around will prevent your character from screeching to a halt and changing directions.

For example,

If S is you, _ is a bush, and the X is a fruit you are not looking for, you know not to go to the right.

  • Time: 4 minutes
  • Description: Get 12 points. Ordinary ore is worth 1 point each. A random piece of ore, of which there are 4, is worth 3 points each, and Tortimer tells you the name of this ore.
  • In-game description: Are you into digging for ore? Then grab your shovel and get busy on this beginner tour to find some ore!
  • Tips: Try to pick a route through the map that will have you cover the entire thing in the most efficient way possible. You want to try to hit all the rocks. Pick up all ore you come across until your pockets are full. Then look at your pockets and count how many of the 3-point ore you have. If you have 4, you are done. Otherwise, continue looking for more 3-point ore, and when you find one, replace one of the 1-point ore in your pockets with that 3-point ore. Once you collect 4 pieces of the 3-point ore, you are done.
  • There are 6 types of ore: gold nugget (yellow), silver nugget (silver), ruby (pink), amethyst (purple), emerald (green), and sapphire (blue).

It is necessary to have all four 3-point ore, with the other 12 spaces in your pockets filled with normal 1-point ore, to get 24 points.

  • Description: Get 3 pieces of furniture, the ones on your list, and return to Tortimer with those 3 items, and ONLY those 3 items, in your pockets. (You can have other non-furniture items in your pockets, however.)
  • In-game description: Enjoy a scavenger hunt on a beautiful tropical island. Can you find everything in time? Beginners welcome!
  • Tips: Furniture will only be found in the houses, never in the trees or lying on the ground. Go to the nearest house and, once inside, check your list and memorize what's on it. If you are already familiar with what some/all of those pieces of furniture look like, then great. Otherwise, pick up anything that looks likes something on your list, then head outside and check your list. Make note of which items have a checkmark next to them, for those are the items you have obtained. Head to the next house and repeat. If your pockets ever get full, stand outside and drop any furniture items not on your list. Once you get all 3 furniture items from your list and have emptied your pockets of all furniture items that aren't the 3 you were tasked to find, head back to Tortimer.
  • Description: Catch 3 tropical fish.
  • In-game Description: Find tropical fish living in the ocean and rivers during this fun catch-and-release game! Beginners welcome!
  • Tips: Nothing hard about this one, really. Just stick to the river and catch any fish you see.
  • Description: Get 20 points by shooting down balloons with your slingshot. Round balloons are worth 1 point, while the bunny balloons are worth 3 points.
  • In-game description: Are you a master of the art of the slingshot? Then sign up for this tour and show you're the best there is!
  • Because this is 3-star difficulty, there are lots of trees and pitfalls in this one, so watch your step. Never walk behind a tree so that you cannot see where you are walking. I like to walk close to the river, especially north of it, so I can easily see where I am walking and trees don't obscure the view. It should be noted that using the slingshot does allow you to see behind nearby trees.
  • The wind is strong, so the balloons travel quite quickly.
  • Description: Find 4 fossils, the ones shown in the sample room (the house on the left), and place them in the same orientation in the display room (the house on the right). The fossils are not labeled.
  • In-game description: Can you tell a rib from a tail bone? Then show your fossil mastery with this advanced fossil-finding tour!
  • Tips: Familiarity with the different fossils is a plus, but not absolutely necessary since you have a massive 10 minutes AND there are exactly 16 fossils in the area, enough to have your pockets completely full, with none left over. If you are at least somewhat familiar with the fossils, go to the sample room and look at the fossils to try to determine what they are. Then work your way around the map in such a way that you completely cover it in the most efficient manner. Once you get every fossil, go to the display room and place the fossils in the correct place, using the sample room to determine which fossils to put where.
  • Description: Plant flowers in a 5x5 garden. You have to plant the specific type and color of flower that Tortimer tells you.
  • In-game description: Enjoy a unique style of advanced gardening! Open only to those who have high confidence in their abilities!
  • Tips: It should go without saying that you should only go for the type and color of flower that Tortimer tells you. Once you get 16 flowers, head back to the garden and stand 1 square away from each of two edges, and plant 9 flowers. This should fill a 3x3 square of flowers, with 2 edges of this square touching the edge of the garden. Then move your character toward an open space in the garden and plant 6 flowers. What should be left is two rows of 5 spaces each. Go collect 9 more flowers, then plant your final 10 flowers in these two rows. Try to plan your route through the map so you cover as much area as possible without going through a section twice.

Below is a 5x5 grid representing the garden, with numbers to indicate planting order. Numbers with a * indicate approximately where you should stand.

  • Description: Hit the machine at least 30 times with the hammer.
  • In-game description: Have you fully mastered the art of the hammer? Then get ready for this master-level tour and show your stuff!
  • Tips: It helps to run in front of the machine, then get in its path and hit it from the front repeatedly. That way the machine is pushing you along so you don't have to run up to it. This tour takes place in a closed off area, with many rocks scattered throughout the area. When the machine hits a wall or rock, it changes direction.
  • In-game description: Enjoy this competitive hide-and-seek with the people on the island! For those who've mastered the game!
  • Description: Match items in a 5x4 grid.
  • In-game description: Are your shoveling abilities at the max? How about your matching skills? Can you win in this difficult tour?
  • Description: Catch 20,000 Bells' worth of bugs.
  • In-game description: Watch the Bell values rise in this advanced bug-catching tour. Only those with a full mastery of bugs need apply!
  • Tips: Walk around the border of the island, but not in the sand. Look at the palm trees in the sand for large beetles, while simultaneously looking at the normal trees for beetles on those. Once you see one of the big beetles on the palm trees, start creeping up on it from a distance. If you start creeping up on it while too close, it will fly away before you can catch it. Don't bother going for small butterflies, grasshoppers, or other low-value bugs. If it's at least 1,000 bells, catch it.
  • Sometimes it just takes experience to know what kind of beetle is on a tree just by looking at it.

The bugs that are worth going for are, but not limited to, the following:

  • Description: Get 20 points. Ordinary ore is worth 1 point each. A random piece of ore, of which there are 4, is worth 3 points each, and Tortimer tells you the name of this ore. Another random piece of ore is worth 10 points each, but its identity is kept a secret; you are only told that there are exactly 2 of this type of ore.
  • In-game description: Is your expertise in precious ore something to behold? Then prove it in this most advanced ore-hunting tour!
  • Tips: Try to pick a route through the map that will have you cover the entire thing in the most efficient way possible. You want to try to hit all the rocks. Pick up all ore you come across until your pockets are full. Then look at your pockets and try to determine which type will be the mystery bonus ore. Any ore that you have more than two of will not be the bonus ore, and the 3-point ore obviously won't be the bonus ore also. Make note of the ore that could be the bonus ore, and continue searching, continuing to mentally eliminate potential bonus ore once you find more than two. If you find ore that is worth 3 points, open your pockets and drop one of the other ores that you know is not the 10-point ore (as replacing it when you pick up the 3-point ore takes too long because of the text) and pick up the 3-point ore. There are always 4 pieces of the 3-point ore. If done well, by the end of the tour you should know what the mystery bonus ore is.
  • Description: Get 3 pieces of furniture, the ones on your list, and return to Tortimer with those 3 items, and ONLY those 3 items, in your pockets. (You can have other non-furniture items in your pockets, however.)
  • In-game description: Are you a master scavenger? Then this is the tour for you! The hardest scavenger hunt is waiting for the true best!
  • What makes this tour harder is that there is more furniture in each house, and there seem to be a lot of plants as well. If you don't recognize the name of an item on your list, it is probably a plant.
  • Description: Catch 4 fish.
  • In-game description: The highest challenge for the skilled angler is this catch-and-release game! Do you have the ability necessary?
  • Tips: Sometimes the fish will change the direction they are facing, or take a bite then just swim past it. It helps to become familiar with how far you can throw the rod, as it's the same every time. Turning up the volume helps too, because sometimes a fish might be nibbling at it and there's a tree blocking your view.
  • Description: Catch 5 fireflies.
  • In-game description: Are fireflies your thing? Are your bug-catching skills at an all-time high? Then sign up for this tour right away!
  • Tips: Fireflies only appear near the river, so just walk along the riverbank looking for those little floating balls of light. Turning on the 3D effect can help with seeing exactly where it is (like if it's too high to catch, in which case you should just go find another firefly).
  • Description: Catch 4 noisy bugs, like crickets, grasshoppers, etc.
  • In-game description: Enjoy bug catching in the fall to ease down the heat of the tropical islands! This tour is for advanced bug catchers!
  • Tips: Just walk around the map looking for those noisy bugs. Turn up the volume for aid on where to walk.
  • Difficulty: 3 stars (but should be 1 star, considering how easy it is)
  • Description: Catch 5 large dragonflies.
  • In-game description: Wanna try catching gigantic dragonflies in a lush, tropical forest? Then sign up right away and get hunting!
  • Tips: You are looking for petail dragonflies (extremely large dragonflies) and banded dragonflies (smaller dragonflies that move very fast). Just run around the map looking for dragonflies. It's best to catch them in a pause when they are changing direction. For me this tour is one of the easiest by far; I can catch 15+ dragonflies in 7 minutes.

When working, he wears a green cap with a flower print with a green circle core, an orangish-yellow apron with a big pocket and reddish-brown buttons with red crossed strings on each strap, and a pair of small green boots.

Personality [ edit ]

Leif is a cheerful lover of nature, explaining why he runs the Garden Shop and hosts Weeding Day .

Appearances [ edit ]

In new leaf [ edit ].

animal crossing new leaf town tour

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf , Leif runs the Garden Shop, where the player can buy flowers , saplings , fertilizer , and gardening tools such as the Watering Can and the Axe . After Timmy and Tommy's store expands to T.I.Y. , the Garden Shop will merge, Leif will have a new, larger selection of items, and additionally will offer a weed-pulling service.

Depending on the version of the game, on a certain day, Leif hosts Weeding Day. When all the weeds are pulled, Leif rewards the player with a prize which consists of one of the furniture items from the Flower Set . If the day starts and there are no weeds in town, Leif rewards the player with a special award: the Happy Generosity Award. In addition, he makes three public works projects - the round, square, and tulip topiaries - available for erection and gifts the player with a flower bag containing a hybrid flower.

Leif may be found in the player's town if more than 50 weeds are present, fast asleep, and if spoken to, he wakes up and asks the player to help pull the weeds. He will maintain a count of the remaining weeds so that the player knows how many still need to be uprooted. Depending on how many weeds the player pulled and whether it was done in their own town or another player's town, he will gift the player with a random flower bag, fertilizer , perfect fruit , or an exclusive furniture item as a reward for completing the task.

In New Horizons [ edit ]

animal crossing new leaf town tour

While initially absent from Animal Crossing: New Horizons , Leif returned in the 1.2.0 April Free Update . He regularly appears in front of the Resident Services building to sell an assortment of gardening goods, such as a in-season and a out-of-season shrub start , non-native flowers, and plants to grow produce such as pumpkin starts and wheat starts . He also buys weeds for twice their usual selling price. His shop closes at 10 PM.

Outside of Nature Day, if the player purchase from Leif on three separate occasions, he'll give the player a DIY recipe for a hedge .

With the release of the 2.0 update, Leif now has a shop open at the plaza on Harv's Island . However, he will continue to visit the player's island about every two weeks. Outside of his regular services, he also offers the player to remove all weeds in their island for 100,000 Bells , such that all the weeds will be placed in the recycle box on the following day for the player to take.

In Happy Home Paradise , Leif can be found on the beach outside Paradise Planning after the player has designed the school . If the player agrees to take him to it so that he can give a lesson on flowers, they will be able to use hybrid flowers in designing vacation homes.

Prior to its removal in version 2.0, when the player scans Leif's amiibo card and tries to invite him, he will say:

Heya, Player ! Were you trying to get in touch with Leif ? 'Cause that's me. Did you invite me to go camping? That's the happiest news I've heard all day, my friend. But I gotta sit this one out. See, I already promised this nap here that I was gonna take it, so... Until next time, friend!
