ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard
License: Read Here
The purpose of the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard (ACTCS) is to provide ASEAN member countries with a tool that will improve the quality of tourism in their cities, increase their marketing competitiveness but also improve the situation of local residents and their livelihood by alleviating poverty. It is also designed to protect the environment thus responding to the impacts of climate change and contributing to the sustainable development of ASEAN cities. It is vital to note that the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan 2011-2015 (ATSP) has indicated the enhancement of the ability of ASEAN tourism to address the climate change issue as one of the priority actions in order to accomplish its strategic directions aimed at increasing the quality of services and facilities in the region.
The standard is based on a series of indicators that will evaluate how sustainable ASEAN cities currently are, the quality of the tourism they offer and identify areas that can be improved. It will provide ASEAN member countries with benchmarks to aim for and ultimately lead to greater tourist satisfaction, greater numbers of visitors and better conditions for the local population.

In a notable achievement for Tabuk City, it has proudly clinched the esteemed 2024 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Clean Tourist City Award. The city's recognition stems from its unwavering commitment to meeting and exceeding the rigorous standards set by the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standards.
A Triumph for Tabuk
The recent announcement, conveyed through a letter from Director Virgilio M. Maguigad of the Office of Tourism Standards and Regulation to Mayor Darwin C. Estran֮ero, marks a significant milestone for the local government. The accolade is poised to add another feather to Mayor Estran֮ero's cap, affirming his administration's dedication to elevating the city to greater heights.
The Rigorous Criteria
Tabuk City's attainment of the award is no small feat, considering the stringent criteria employed in the selection process. The evaluation encompassed various crucial aspects, including environmental management, cleanliness, waste management, awareness building regarding environmental protection, green spaces, health safety, urban safety and security, and the overall quality of tourism infrastructure and facilities.
The ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard
The ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard (ACTCS) serves as a pivotal tool in the quest for excellence in tourism across member countries. The standard not only enhances the quality of tourism offerings but also contributes significantly to the well-being of local residents. In light of the rapid development of tourism in Southeast Asia, this award solidifies Tabuk's standing as a premier destination on the global tourism map.
Mayor Estran֮ero's Acknowledgment
Mayor Darwin C. Estran֮ero expressed his gratitude for the collective efforts of various tourism stakeholders in contributing to the city's tourism success. He sees the award as a beacon that will guide Tabuk in aggressively promoting itself as a must-see destination for both foreign and domestic tourists.
A Motivation for Progress
Estran֮ero highlighted the award as a source of inspiration and motivation for all stakeholders involved in the city's tourism sector. The mayor emphasized the need to build upon existing programs, projects, and activities, envisioning a future where Tabuk's tourism industry reaches new heights. The overarching goal remains to spur economic growth, enhance livelihoods, and simultaneously preserve and protect the environment.
As Tabuk City gears up for the awarding ceremony scheduled at the Mecong River Hotel in Lau later this month, the resonance of this accomplishment is clear. The ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award not only acknowledges past achievements but propels Tabuk toward a future characterized by sustainable tourism practices, economic prosperity, and heightened global recognition. This accolade is not just a celebration of success but a call to action for continuous improvement, ensuring Tabuk remains a shining example of responsible tourism in the ASEAN region.

CCTV shows machete thug raiding shop before being locked inside by hero shopkeeper
Dramatic CCTV footage shows the moment a machete thug tried to rob a store - before being trapped inside by a have-a-go hero shopkeeper and brave passers-by. The knifeman was caught on camera storming into Taas Express with another armed accomplice in Smethwick, West Mids., on April 18. Shocking video shows him demanding "we're going to stab you up, give me the f***ing money" while his pal begins helping himself to items from the shelves. However, a quick-thinking staff member leaps around the counter - smashing wine on the floor in a bid to slow down the crooks - and out of the store before pulling the door tightly shut behind. The balaclava-clad offender then proceeds to smash the door windows with his weapon while members of the public also help thwart his escape.

Tiong: Comply with ASEAN Tourism Standards to attract more tourists
- 29-04- 2024 06:48 PM
CYBERJAYA : Tourism industry operators have been urged to comply with the ASEAN Tourism Standards to raise the quality of service and promote a good tourism image for the country.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (pix) said there was a tendency among foreign tourists currently to not use registered tour agents due to the low quality of service of some tourism industry operators.
“That’s why tourism industry players need to rise up and strengthen their services and establish a new initiative to attract more tourists to our country,” he said in a speech read by his ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Roslan Abdul Rahman at the ASEAN Tourism Standards certificate presentation ceremony here today, where 107 industry players received their certificates.
Tiong also said that he had instructed that engagement sessions be held with stakeholders to overcome issues regarding the quality of tourism services in the country.
The ASEAN Tourism Standards are a set of standards by ASEAN countries to improve service quality in the regional tourism industry in line with the ASEAN Tourism Strategy Plan 2016-2025 to make ASEAN a leading international destination.
There are nine existing standards, including the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard, the ASEAN Homestay Standard, the ASEAN Community Based Tourism Standard and the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard.
