Best Time to Visit  Churdhar Trek

Both the ascent and the descent of Churdhar are moderate in difficulty with initial steep ascents. The best time to hike these paths is duringMay, June, October and November. Is it safe Trek for first timer

Set amidst the high altitude ranges, concerns among the beginners regarding Churdhar trek safety are indeed very valid questions. We have all the possible probabilities calculated if anything goes off the schedule. All our professional strive their best to provide trekkers with the best experience possible.

Since this is beginner friendly trek we advise trekkers to wary themselves of the path and high altitude medical conditions before proceeding to this trek.

  Difficulty level

Even though the top is relatively average in elevation, we still recommend a reasonable level of physical fitness. The moderate journey of 14-15 km to be covered in a short span of time can be a challenging task for beginners. We strongly advise trekkers to physically and mentally prepare themselves prior to this trek. Throughout the course, all groups will be guided by our experts for trekking equipment and any impending terrain.

Any medical assistance that is required will be provided at any point of the journey; however, trekkers must consult their professional care before beginning any trek. We also strongly advise trekkers to learn about altitude sickness and to notify our teams as soon as any symptoms appear.

Weather conditions

Weather conditions depend on the time of the year trekkers are travelling. Months from pre and post monsoon experience moderate temperatures during the day with substantially colder nights.

Things to carry

1) Because nights at elevations tend to be considerably colder, we suggest having well-graded, warm and comfortable clothing along with good quality shoes.

2) Despite the fact that we handle medical crises, we urge individuals to keep their emergency kits at hand in any case of personal underlying illnesses.

3) Since the journey provides you with a picturesque view of many peaks, don’t forget to bring your camera along with extra batteries.

4) Our staff will consult with fellow trekkers about their luggage and, if lacking, will assist trekkers in obtaining any necessary equipment. Only the relevant luggage should be brought, as a result.

Other trekking Essentials-

Connectivity and Transactions

1) Because connectivity along the route is unpredictable, we urge people to do all of their work ahead of time.

2) Trekkers will be provided with walkie- talkies beforehand in case of emergency

3) Last ATM transactions available will be at Mundoli but we recommend travellers to collect cash beforehand or while in Chandigarh as ATM available at other places might not dispense cash at times.

Introduction

The Churdhar peak is the tallest mountain in the Himalayan range outside of the Himalayas. Churi-Chandni-Dhar is another name for this summit. Locals think Shri Chureshwar or Shirgul Maharaj resided here in ancient times; hence it is called after them. The panoramic views from the peak are breathtaking. Kinner Kailash, Shrikhand Mahadev, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Black Peak, and the Dhauladhar Range are among the Himalayan peaks seen from the top. The Gangetic basin, the Sutlej River, Shimla, Chail, Kufri, Kasauli, and Chakrata can all be seen from the peak.

The path from Nauradhar is the most popular of the three approaches to the top. It takes around three hours to drive from Kasauli to Nauradhar. This cab service is also included in the package. After arriving at Nauradhar, lunch will be served and free the rest of the day. The majority of visitors choose to spend the day in this town. The Churdhar Trek begins the next morning shortly after breakfast.

Churdhar Trip's initial 1 km is a somewhat difficult trek with a steep, rocky, and muddy environment. Beyond that, the trip becomes easier with a regular ascent through dense pine woods that leads to a lovely meadow where the day's campground is surrounded by cedar and pine trees scurrying quietly as if to sing you a lullaby to sleep. The final portion of the walk is a hard moraine hike. Still, because a 56-square-kilometre forest sanctuary encircles the summit, you can take in the panoramic vista of lush green forest with the Greater Himalayas in the distance.

While the Churdhar trek is accessible to trekkers of moderate fitness levels, certain challenges should be considered:

  • Gradual Ascent: The trek involves a gradual ascent, making it suitable for trekkers of varying fitness levels. However, basic fitness is advisable.
  • Weather Conditions: Weather in the mountains can be unpredictable. Trekkers should be prepared for sudden changes in weather, including rain or snow.
  • Altitude: The trek reaches a considerable altitude, and trekkers should be mindful of any signs of altitude sickness. Acclimatization is essential.

9. Local Cuisine and Culture:

The villages surrounding Churdhar offer a glimpse into the local Himachali culture. Trekkers can savor local Himachali cuisine, known for its robust flavors and use of mountain ingredients. Interacting with the locals adds a cultural dimension to the trek.

10. Safety Tips:

  • Guides and Local Support: Engage local guides who are familiar with the terrain. Their expertise enhances safety and provides valuable insights into the region’s history and folklore.
  • Group Trekking: Trekking in a group enhances safety. If trekking solo, inform someone about your itinerary.
  • Emergency Contacts: Carry emergency contact numbers and be aware of the nearest medical facilities.
  • Leave No Trace: Adhere to the principles of responsible trekking by carrying back all waste and minimizing environmental impact.

11. Conclusion:

Churdhar trek is not just a physical journey through the Himalayan landscapes but a spiritual and cultural odyssey. Whether you are a seasoned trekker seeking panoramic views or a pilgrim on a quest for divine blessings, Churdhar offers an experience that transcends the ordinary. As you stand atop the summit, surrounded by the grandeur of the Himalayas, you become part of a sacred tapestry that weaves together nature, spirituality, and the rich cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh. Churdhar is more than a trek; it’s a Himalayan odyssey to the peak of solitude and spiritual bliss.

Churdhar Trek: A Stunning and Remarkable Himalayan Trek

Churdhar Trek: A Stunning and Remarkable Himalayan Trek

The Churdhar Trek is located in Himachal Pradesh, not far from Chandigarh and Churdhar Mountain. It is at 3655 meters and is the highest peak within the Himalayan range.  Another name for this range is Churi-Chandni-Dhar. The area is named for Shri Chureshwar or Shirgul Maharaj because residents think that they formerly resided there.

Himachal news

The Churdhar Trek in Himachal Pradesh brings you to the Churdhar Top, named after ShriChureshwar or ShirgulMaharaj. He was thought to have lived here in ancient times. The peak is also known as Churi-Chandni-Dhar. Due to its connection to “ShriChureshwarMaharaj,” Churdhar is revered as holy and home to many temples.

The iconic Himalayan peaks, including Kinner Kailash, Shrikhand Mahadev, Kedarnath , and Badrinath, are visible from the top. This journey, snaking through numerous landscapes, is a treat for its travelers. The initial half of the trip is up a steep slope, and the last four hours are through rainy weather. However, the most impressive part of this trek is, without a doubt, the Churdhaar nature refuge. Beautiful wildlife like the Himalayan Black Bear, Musk deer Lanhur, and other species pose a threat to this refuge.

  • Discover Churdhar peak’s greatest attributes.
  • Discover Churdhar Wildlife Sanctuary’s magnificence.
  • First, learn about the significance of the local mythology surrounding this destination.
  • Then, see the far-off peaks visible from the top in a panoramic picture.

The Scheduling

In essence, you will reach three peaks:

  • 2,175 m Nauradhar
  • 2,855m Jam Nallah
  • 3,655 m Churdhar

One of the following routes will bring you to Nauradhar, where you will spend the night at the base camp before beginning the hike.

chopal to churdhar trek distance

Day 1: Your trip from Nauradhar to Jam Nallah will begin at 6 am. You should wear appropriate trekking shoes because the trail is rocky and hilly. Reaching the peak will take you three to four hours. There, you can find a few dhabas and shops where you can buy food and other necessities.

Then, you will walk from Jam Nallah to Teesri, which is very simple with a well-defined track and takes you about 2 hours to finish. Along the way, you will see various lovely water streams.

Day 2: Day 2 of the walk will take you from Teesri to Churdhar, which is the hardest part of the whole journey. You should finish it in four hours or so.

Two paths lead to the Churdhar peak; one is a 4 km trail that gets you to the peak directly where the Lord Shiva temple resides. And the other is a 7 km trail that takes you via the temple and is less steep.

Day 3: The following morning, at around 8 am, you begin your descent toward Nauradhar. The journey back to the base will take about 5 to 6 hours. Then, you can board the 5:00 pm bus to Solan or another neighboring city where you want to return.

The Ideal Time to Visit

Although there is a different season to visit Churdhar, it is recommended to go on the journey between May and November, when the peaks are stunningly covered with snow. Temperatures in June and July range from 20°C to 28°C, with an average of 55mm of precipitation. Most tourists are present during this time of year. Your decision will rely on the experiences you want to have.

Roads are covered in snow from the end of December to the beginning of March, making it unsafe to attempt the Churdhar trek during these times of low visibility.

Shimla : As usual, like rest of the nation, Himachal Pradesh also observed India’s 69th Republic Day on January 26, 2018.  Himachal’s best parade and a showcase of tableaus by various government institutions are believed to be held in the capital city Shimla.

This year, the governor took the salute, which was followed by cultural activities.

Though we are little late in posting, still you might like the pictures of the Republic Day 2018 celebrations at the historic Ridge Maidan of Shimla, exclusively clicked by Himachal Watcher for its readers.

The public did gather this year as well like it has been doing for the last 69 years.  Most of the educated people, especially the newer generation might have read all about the 26 January 1950 in their history lessons without realizing the purpose of spending every year on the arrangement of such an expensive show.

Republic-Day-2018-Shimla-Pictueras-10

This day is special for the armed forces, police, and even the National Cadet Core contingent that take part in the parade. They rehearse and compete to find a place in this parade as it is considered an honour.

However, a crowd of commoners celebrates only the holiday they receive on this day.

Republic-Day-2018-Shimla-Pictueras-6

It is the day of the people. The Independence Day and Republic day are the days when the people are supposed to celebrate the fact that India had united to overthrow the centuries-old British colonial rule to claim the very freedom we cherish and enjoy today.

On this day we are supposed to express gratitude to the freedom fighters that we are not slaves anymore.

Republic-Day-2018-Shimla-Pictueras-21

The Republic Day is special because it was the day India received its constitutional framework and the people were given the true power of the country through the written constitution, which is the longest in the world.

Republic-Day-2018-Shimla-Pictueras-28

India was in a hurry and wanted to incorporate the best components of the natural justice and rights, which is why it borrowed most of the components from countries like United States of America, United Kindom, France, Russia etc.

Republic-Day-2018-Shimla-Pictueras-23

This constitution is the handbook of common people, and it is the only power they possess for the protection of their democratic rights. As a very bitter truth, we are enjoying freedom in India but corruption has corroded the true protocol. Freedom can be manipulated through political power, wealth and influence.

Republic-Day-2018-Shimla-Pictueras-11

Anyway, now we put a full stop to our verbose expression of our comprehension about the symbolic meaning of the Republic Day celebrations to let you view more visuals in high-resolution pictures.

Republic-Day-2018-Shimla-Pictueras-35

There is a lot about the tableau showcase that doesn’t match with the ground reality like waste management, rainwater harvesting, metalled roads, renewable energy etc.

Republic-Day-2018-Shimla-Pictueras-29

For instance, the tableau of the Shimla Municipal Corporation said ‘Waste to Energy’ while things are more like ‘Waste to Air Pollution’ as the corporation and residents continue to burn a huge amount of daily garbage in open.  The sanitation workers are not even regular.

Pictures from swearing-in ceremony of Himachal’s new Chief Minister

HP Chief Minister Jairam oath taking ceremony on the shimla ridge 2

Shimla : With the swearing-in ceremony concluding yesterday, Himachal Pradesh received its new government under the leadership of the Chief Minister Jairam Thakur of the Bhartiya Janata Party.

Himachal Watcher has a few images that we thought might interest our readers, especially those who missed the ceremony held on December 27 on the historic Shimla Ridge Maidan with a great pomp and show.

The new Chief Minister swung into action immediately after taking the oath of the office and secrecy and held his first meeting with the 12-membered cabinet You can read the decisions taken by the cabinet here

Though Jairam Thakur has expressed his wish to abolish the VIP culture , his own oath-taking ceremony remained a display of political strength and extravagant expenditures on facilitation of not only the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, but also for his big guns including Union Ministers and Chief Ministers of several states.

New HP Chief Minister oath taking ceremony 8

Does it make sense for a state to spend on grand ceremonies when it is debt-ridden?

HP Chief Minister Jairam oath taking ceremony on the shimla ridge 5

We hope there are others who would accede to the idea of adopting simplicity while performing such formalities. However, this perspective of ours can’t be forced on anyone.

So, either way, these images will interest you. There was massive crowd comprising BJP supporters and Modi fans.  Remember, Mr Modi and BJP have become two different identities within the party. In Himachal, the people seem to have voted for Modi, not for the BJP.

Otherwise, why would people elect BJP but reject its Chief Ministerial candidate and party president of the State BJP?

Triund: Where the sky romances with mountains and wind plays music – a travelog

' src=

If you are in Dharamshala or around, a trek to Triund Hill is something you must not miss. The reason is, it is a moderate trek, even if it is for the first time you are planning to trek, you will not have any difficulty. The trail is beautiful and there are amazing plants and trees to help you uplift your mood and energy. It doesn’t matter how long you take to reach the top, but when you are up there you will feel amazing. The view from the Hill top is magnificent with 360 degree view of the mighty Dhauladhars and the sky looks so beautiful and at night it is enchanting. It is a sublime experience which you must have. Plus at night, when you look down, you can see the entire town gleaming with lights, and that makes your trek worth.

I will not say that I am any Triund or trekking expert. However I have done this trek thrice. I have my experience which I would like to share with you and if you are planning a trek solo, with friends, family or anyone, or if you are just curious about Triund, you will get to know quite a lot from my side.

Triund-trek1-Ask-Gypsie

So, it was 2015, when I planned for Triund along with two other friends. I was novice at that time about Triund and we spent a lot of extra money during the trek. For the other two treks I preferred a trekking company and it was a wise decision. As I came across a lot of local stories of the place and I enjoyed it more than my first visit.

triund

My trek began from Galu. There is a small check point at Galu where you have to register yourself. It is free of cost. While my trek guide was filling the formalities, I sneaked out and enjoyed a cup of ginger lemon honey from Thapu Dai’s chai shop. He is a man with a lot of stories and he likes to discuss a lot about politics and sports. He has some old books for sale and I bought a couple of them while returning.

on-the-way-to-triund

The hike from Galu to Magic view cafe (which is the middle of trek) is easy with a little gradient and the trail is really beautiful. At some places there are small boulders and if you are tired you can take a small break. I reached Magic View in one and a half hour and it was a beautiful walk with the smell of flowers making it refreshing and the trees giving shade whenever I felt the heat.

Magic View is a small café as I already mentioned. It was built in 1984 and it is the oldest chai shop of the trail and taking a break at this small and cosy place is is nice idea. You can have lemonade, chai, green tea, coffee, maggi, bread omelette, chocolates, energy drinks, cigarettes, and other trek essentials like walking sticks, woolens, gift items etc. from this place. Also, the view from the porch of the café is mesmerizing.

The trail from here takes a better gradient and there are rocks on the way which made me little tired. The route was zig zag and there was no place to sit and relax so I kept on walking, until I came across a beautiful boulder on my left. I fell in love with it and I named it “Shivee Boulder”, because it is pretty and it has enough space to lie down and relax or have a quick nap (I love to do that).

Thank God, I came across that boulder and relaxed, because after that the altitude was increasing and I was really tired, until I saw a dry waterfall. My guide told me that it was the underground waterfall which makes the Bhagsu waterfall. During monsoons, the level of water increases and it becomes a small stream on the dry nallah. Plus during winters there is a lot of snow on it.

Shivee boulder_Triund

Soon we crossed it and there started the real walk. We had 22 curves to walk. I was actually tired and wanted to rest, but my guide encouraged me. He started telling me stories related to the trek. He told me about that one dangerous curve from where some tourist guy fell down while taking a selfie. He also told me about his experiences like, once while coming down from Triund he found an iPhone and apple watch. He named that place iPhone point. He returned the things he found  to the owner from Delhi and till date they call him and send groups for Trekking. He was so happy while telling me his tale of honesty, I could see real happiness in his eyes (Himachali people are honest)

Ask-Gypsie-triund

There I met Ella, a beautiful German Shepherd. She was really graceful. At that chai shop I had some water, chai and tried to play flute, and I was really bad at it. The only tune I can play on a flute is a Garhwali song “Bedu Pako”. May be I was breathless or tired or still on cloud nine, I couldn’t do it.

Gypsie On the way to triund

It was about to rain, so my guide asked me to start again. In five minutes I was on the top of Triund and it was a great feeling. The moment you reach the top, you can see a shack which is run by a guy named Kalu. He makes a nice bonfire and people like to sit there for exchanging their experiences and free music. I enjoyed the bonfire but didn’t stay at his place because there was something better.

Baisakhi Chacha: The Mountain Man

dadu-and-Ask-Gypsie

Baisakhi Chacha, I call him mountain man. He is serving at the Himachal Pradesh Forest Guest House located at Triund Hill since last 35 years. At first when I met him, he looked little occupied with his work and we hardly spoke for a couple of minutes. So, I broke the ice and started the conversation. “Chacha, Chai milega kya?” He looked at me, smiled and went to the kitchen. At tea we discussed a lot of things about mountains and he told me many stories related to his experiences with various trekkers from the past.

After tea we had a nice lunch which chacha made for himself, but he shared with me. He served me some wild mushrooms (Ban Bakri) with rotis. That was one great treat after the trek. Baisakhi chacha is a sweet person, however, when you will meet him for the first time you will be showered upon with stabbing words like, “Room nai hai. Pehle kyu nahi book karate. Sahib kabhi bhi bookings bhej dete hai. Sheher ja k book kyu nahi karate ho?”

chopal to churdhar trek distance

When I asked him if he feels homesick, he replied in simple words that since last 35 years this is my home. I live here, the air, trees and climate of this place is like my family and I enjoy staying here. He can reach Triund top from Galu in 35 or 40 minutes, if there is no one to stop him and ask questions, like how far it is from here, is there any shop around or is it difficult from here etc. Chacha hates talking to strangers, but if he is comfortable with you, you will get to know a lot of stories from his experiences. He wakes up really early in the morning to fetch water from churri, which is around half an hour walk from Triund and if he finds anyone mis using water, that person is in soup. Talking about family and life, he told me a very interesting stories from his native village and his life in Triund. His supernatural encounters during snow and when there is no one on the hill. He also shared some interesting incidents with trekkers, like, during the late 80’s when British travelers were frequent in Triund and one evening while going uphill he met a British woman who needed some help. Baisakhi chacha not only helped her but took the entire group safely to the top and served them with tea and quick snacks available. The British woman was really impressed with him and she proposed him to marry her and she was even ready to take her to England. Chacha was smiling while telling this story and when I asked him, “Aap kyu nahi gaye?” Shyly, he replied, “Merko uska bhasha nahi samajh aana tha, usko mera nahi. Bahar ke log alag hote hai na.” Apart from that we talked about many other things and he told me amazing stories about the place.

Last year, Government of Himachal Pradesh awarded Baisakhi Chacha for providing hospitality in Triund. Till date, whenever I feel my life is tough, I think about him and get my confidence back.

Best time for Triund Trek:

During January to March, Triund trek is not open because of the snow. If you want to enjoy natural splendor to the fullest, the best time for Triund trek is from April to May. However, it is mostly crowded during this time. September to mid-November is also a nice time for this beautiful trek. You should definitely avoid Triund during the monsoons because the rocks are slippery and the mud is slushy during this time. There is a high risk of slipping down the hill during rainy season.

Important details about the trek:

chopal to churdhar trek distance

Trek Duration: It can be covered as a day hike. However, if you plan a stay during night, you will get a chance to see the beautiful and star studded sky and if you look down, you will see the dazzling lights of the town. I will recommend you to stay at least one night at Triund.

chopal to churdhar trek distance

Trek distance from McLeod Ganj to Triund: The distance of the trek is 9 Km, but it is an old saying that, you cannot measure the distance of mountains in kilometers. It is the number of hours you take to reach the top.

chopal to churdhar trek distance

Starting the trek: You can either start the trek from McLeod Ganj or Gallu. I prefer staying in Dharamkot for a night and taking a short walk to Galu. These days there are auto rickshaws and taxis available from Dharamkot to Galu. Auto rickshaw charges rupees 80, and taxis are available for rs 400.

chopal to churdhar trek distance

Triund Altitude: 2842 mts.

Triund trek grade: Moderate

Accommodation: There is a Forest Guest House on the top of Triund, but you need to book it in advance otherwise you will not get a room. There are tents available on almost every shack of Triund. You cannot pitch your own tent there if you don’t have permission from the Forest Department, which you should take at least a day before the trek from Forest Office in Dharamshala town.

Triund trek essentials:

  • People who trek often, know this already, however, if it is your first trek, you must carry a day sack, keep a small torch, first aid, tissue roll, water bottle, packed lunch, fruits, juice, camera and extra clothing as the weather of Dharamshala is unpredictable, it might rain or get colder than you expect, in the night.
  • Good quality, ankle length, waterproof trekking shoes or sneakers which are comfortable. Wear good quality cotton socks and keep a pair of flip flops.
  • For sun protection, you must apply sunscreen lotion, lip balm with SPF, sun glasses and hat.
  • Wear comfortable cotton T-shirt and lose trousers. Also, keep a warm jacket with you.

Some quick tips:

chopal to churdhar trek distance

  • Be a responsible trekker and do not litter your waste. There are dustbins or huge bags available which are given by Waste Warriors, an initiative by Jodie Underhill to clean the mountains. All the shacks and shops have the waste bags available.
  • Keep water bottle with you because there is no water source on the way and buying a bottle of packed water can cost you rs 40 to 60. You can refill water from the filters available at Magic View and other shops on the way by paying rs 20 for one liter.
  • The way is laden with Rhododendron flowers, do not freak out and pluck the flowers or damage any other plants and trees. Let the beauty stay on the way.
  • Do not disrespect local cultures and nature. Be friendly to other trekkers.
  • If it is your first trek to Triund, hire local guide, they will make sure you get a tent to stay plus you will not have to worry about your meals. They will also take care of your safety and above all you will get to know a lot of local stories from the place. You can feel free to contact me to help you get a good guide.

About Churdhar Peak

Churdhar Peak is located in Churdhar Sanctuary, which is part of both Shimla and Sirmaur District. This peak is visible from Shimla, Kasauli, Solan & Kufri and retains a streak of snow on its upper ridge throughout the year.

  • How to Reach

Flora and Fauna: Around the massive mountain there is Churdhar wildlife sanctuary. This wilderness is a wealth of herbs and beautiful alpine flora. Walking through the sanctuary one can spot monal, koklass and khaleej pheasants. The canine-toothed musk deer and the Himalayan black are known to inhabit higher forest areas in the region.

Religious Importance : The Churdhar peak has a great religious significance for the people of Sirmour, Shimla, Chaupal and Solan of Himachal Pradesh and Dehradun of Uttrakhand. Churdhar is a holy place related with Shri Shirgul Maharaj (Chureshwar Maharaj), a deity widely worshipped in Sirmour and Chaupal.

Staying in Churdhar Peak

You can do camping at various location during the Churdhar Trek. There is a Forest Rest House of Himachal Govt near Shirgul Temple, where you can try to get accommodation (but its a risky option, if it is not pre-booked)

Churdur Peak Suggested Trekking Itinerary from Nohradhar

Day 1: Reach Nohradhar - Jamnala/Teesri After overnight Journey, you can reach Nohradhar in the morning. After a small rest and breakfast, you can start your trek. Carry water some food items along with you. The trek is full of rocks as we start but after that it becomes quite easy.

Jamnala is a plain meadow where you will find couple of shops for basic supplies, you can also take night halt in Jamnala if you reach late, otherwise you can continue your journey. Teesri is around 5 kms from Jamnala, which will be our night halt campsite.

Day 2: Jamala/Teesri - Churdhar Summit - Jamala/Teesri After 1 km of rocky trail, you will pass through forests followed by meadows, which offers scenic views. After a point, there were two routes to Churdhar peak. One was a direct and shorter but steep trail of 4 kms to the Churdhar peak. Another was via the temple, which was easy but 7 kms long. It is advisable (even by locals) that one should take the longer route and visit temple before the summit.

After visiting temple, resume your trek to Summit. The summit trek is still very hard and time consuming but offers breathtaking views. Trek down to Teesri or Jamala, as per the trekking speed, timing or guide recommendation. Night stay in Camps.

Day 3: Reach Nohradhar and Departure After morning breakfast trek down to Nohradhar and Departure.

My First Solo Trip :Trek to Churdhar Mahadev

Photo of Travellingmonty

To all those who wish to travel solo, i would say do it now! Be open to new experiences and people. Also be alert beacuse you will have to become your own best friend and guardian in the end.

Photo of My First Solo Trip :Trek to Churdhar Mahadev by Travellingmonty

It was during the early winters of 2017 and feeling of anxiety was continuously there in that phase of my life. I was feeling depressed which caused myself feeling low and confusion of going office or not was there that day.

As i was not feeling well, I called my manager that i won’t be able to come today as i was not feeling well and it was around 2 am while surfing online on the internet i found a place called Churdhar Mahadev , i started searching about the place and very next moment i decided to go on to this trek. This was my first time i decided to visit a place so fast that in next 1 hour i left for the ISBT to take the bus to solan, himachal pradesh. I think that was my transformation from a tourist to traveller .

The very first bus to solan was at 4am, so i had to waited for around 45 mins at the ISBT Kashmere gate. I started my journey and next 5 hours were sleeping in the bus, reaching chandigarh woke me up. After reaching solan i changed the bus towards nohradhar(last motorable road for churdhar trek).

Hamlet of Nohradhar :

Nohradhar is no tourist spot, but it’s a traveler’s delight. The hamlet itself is steeped in an old world quaintness, removed from the mundane machinations of time as it were. It’s a small village with one bazaar that exists mainly to provide for the village’s population. It has a few dhabas where you can get food. The food itself is simple, though nonetheless tastier for it and after spending hours walking in the cool and sometimes chilly environment, a simple meal of hot Rajma Chawal with buttered rotis will rival any gourmet cuisine elsewhere.

After spending the day at nohradhar , i had to drop my plan to start the trek as it was not safe to trek in the evening because of animals in the forest. So i spent the night by paying @250 bucks in a hotel churdhar peak and started the trek early in the morning around 6 am.

Photo of My First Solo Trip :Trek to Churdhar Mahadev 1/4 by Travellingmonty

I Think the best thing about travelling solo is that you end up spending most of the time with yourself and you think about things you would otherwise discard in a busy life. i would say, travelling solo makes you patient and sorted person. By travelling solo, you also end up exploring more because no one is dragging you somewhere else and you get to see places in your own way.

Photo of My First Solo Trip :Trek to Churdhar Mahadev 2/4 by Travellingmonty

The most difficult part in the entire trek was to climb the peak of Lord Shiva at the height of 12,000 feet, i almost gave up to climb and started thinking to take the way directly towards sarain(langar place).

Photo of My First Solo Trip :Trek to Churdhar Mahadev 3/4 by Travellingmonty

There i met with a group of people , actually students of Nauni University special mention to mountain child – Akki thakur https://www.facebook.com/akshay.s.thakur.3 who motivated me to climb and give it another try and guess what ! i did it. That feeling on the top can’t be expressed in words. Feeling on the top is one of the best feelings and that adrenaline rush! still gives me goosebumbs!

Photo of My First Solo Trip :Trek to Churdhar Mahadev 4/4 by Travellingmonty

This is what i got to see after that almighty vulnerable Mountain!

To all those who wish to travel solo, i would say do it now! Be open to new experiences and people. Also be alert because you will have to become your own best friend and guardian in the end.

The Churdhar trek is the highest in the outer Himalaya region. The peak is also famous by Churi Chandani Dhar's name and is named after a great ancient Indian emperor Shri Chureshwar. The view from the top of the peak is unbelievable, and it feels like you are standing above the clouds. There are various Himalayan peaks visible from the top, and those peaks are – Kinner Kailash, Shrikhand Mahadev, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and some others. From the top point, other visible, beautiful places are – The Gangetic basin, Kufri, Kasauli, Shimla, Sutlej River, and chakrata. There are three different routes for reaching the summit, but the one called Nauradhar is the most popular among all 3. The very first km of the trek might be pretty tricky for a few beginners as the route compromises rocky and muddy landscape, and the way is a little steep. But it would be fine and get back to normal once you reach thick forests of pine trees, which take us to beautiful meadows.
