Cabo San Lucas is a major port city located at the southern tip of Baja California Peninsula, in Mexico's Baja California Sur state. The road distance to the less popular cruise port San Jose del Cabo  is approx 33 km (20 ml), or around 30 min travel time.

Cabo San Lucas has population around 80,000 (metro over 300,000). Cabo is rated one of Mexico's top 5 tourist destinations, best known for its beautiful beaches, balnearios (medicinal baths), scuba diving locations, marine life. A heavily trafficked destination for tourists is Los Cabos Corridor, with numerous timeshares and resorts along the coast between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.

San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas form together a major tourism travel destination, with over 900,000 annual hotel guests. Both cities are served by Los Cabos International Airport. The airport serves domestic flights connecting to Mexico City, Culiacan, Los Mochis, Guadalajara, El Bajio, Loreto , Tijuana, Mazatlan , Monterrey. International flights connect with Canada ( Toronto , Calgary, Vancouver , Victoria , Edmonton, Kelowna, Montreal , Ottawa), USA ( Los Angeles , San Diego , San Francisco , San Jose, Portland Oregon , Sacramento , Seattle , Milwaukee, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Detroit , Minneapolis-St Paul , NYC , Chicago , Denver, Las Vegas, Austin, Baltimore , Dallas, Houston , Washington DC) and UK ( London ).

Cabo houses a wide range of wildlife, including sharks, rays, birds, and fish, like striped marlin and mahi-mahi (dorado). Cabo San Lucas features the world's highest-paying marlin tournament. Despite rising concerns over general safety for tourists traveling to Mexico, Cabo remains among the safest destinations in the world. Pods of whales are often observed in the area in the winter.

The city is also a popular call port for many major cruise shipping companies . Cabo San Lucas also provides a small international airfield, handling air traffic for general aviation flights as well as air taxi service. Many travelers get around the area via the numerous local taxis which service the primary parts of the city, the Corridor and the airport. A system of small buses is also available to be used by locals and tourists, which costs a few pesos and is much less expensive than taxis.

The most popular cruise shore excursions and city attractions are the Land’s End (rock formation rising from the ocean at Baja California's southernmost tip; with two beaches - Lovers' Beach and Divorce Beach), wildlife watching (for humpback and gray whales/December thru April), day excursion to San Jose del Cabo (approx 30-min from downtown), Chileno Bay (scuba diving and snorkeling), Playa El Medano (miles-long beach lined up with all-inclusive hotels and resorts), 4x4 and boat tours.

Cabo San Lucas cruise terminal

The Port has no dedicated cruise terminal (building). Cruise ships in Cabo San Lucas anchor in the bay (offshore) from where their passengers are tendered to the yacht marina (inner harbor). The Marina is located at just 10-min walking distance (along the waterfront) from downtown.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Cabo San Lucas: tourist information

Cabo San Lucas, where the sea, sun and desert join to cast an air of mystery and romance over all who visit. Cabo was once a tranquil fishing village and, in times long ago, a hangout for pirates. Although no longer the fishing village of old, and not many of the old pirates are seen around town any more, the magic of Cabo remains. Cabo is still small and charming by any standards, with a population of under 30,000. We do have 4 stop lights now. And with the number of activities available to the visitor, you could easily imagine you are in a giant amusement park. Cabo has come of age. Located at the southernmost tip of the magnificent Baja peninsula, Cabo has been blessed with what many describe as the perfect climate. Average year-round temperature is 78 degrees, it is a little cooler in the winter and a bit warmer in the summer. For years Cabo was the remote playground reserved solely for private yacht owners. They flocked here to be near "Marlin Alley", as the waters around Cabo have often been described. The name is well deserved, as Cabo San Lucas is the undisputed billfish capital of the world. But Cabo is far from remote these days, and the attraction of this magical spot is no longer limited to marlin fishing. Cabo can be, many different things to people. Cabo San Lucas has become known as a perfect vacation spot for the entire family. Cabo can be as quiet, romantic and relaxing as any secret hideaway. It can also be as lively as anyone can possibly imagine. If your wish is to enjoy a quiet candlelight dinner, "muy romantico", beside the shimmering sea for just the two of you, we have some of the most romantic dining spots on the face of the earth. If golf, water sports, boating, fishing, ATV's, horseback riding and numerous other activities are what you seek, they're all here, waiting for you. If "party till you drop" is the mood of the evening, Cabo has got it for you, big time!

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Los Cabos—or the Capes—sits at the southernmost tip of the Baja California Peninsula, a narrow strip of land whose varied geography makes for plenty of interesting and unusual activities. You can ride a camel, or enjoy more predictable pursuits including fishing, golfing and whale-watching. On your Cabo cruise you can visit picture-perfect El Arco, an arch that may look familiar thanks to its cameo on postcards and advertisements. North of the capes, you can drop by the famed Hotel California. And if you've worked up an appetite on your Cabo cruise, you won't be disappointed: Los Cabos offers plenty to enjoy at the table as well, with farm-fresh fruits and vegetables and, of course, seafood being the mainstays here. Regardless, Holland America Line makes sure that Cabo cruises have plenty of new and traditional things for guests to experience.

Cruising To Cabo - What Can You Do In A Day?

What do you do in cabo if you are only visiting for a limited time.

Most of the cruise ships that visit Cabo are only there for a day and an overnight, but some of them are just day visitors which puts a lot of time pressure on folks to see anything of the place.

It is compounded by the fact that the access to land is by tender craft so on the larger cruise ships in particular you will have to factor in time to get on and off.

So…you’re here in party central for what may only be a few hours…what can you do in that time?

First off you will be landing in the Cabo Marina . Most cruise ship visitors start from here and take a walk around to see what the place is about and get the vibe of Cabo. The marina is home to some stunning yachts and every so often there will be a mega-yacht in, drawing admiring and envious looks from everyone, not least the super-yacht owners!

Atessa III - a Cabo regular.

As you walk around the perimeter of the marina you will be accosted regularly by peddlers – check out our survival guide here – and they will be offering you short trips and tours by water taxi and fishing trips and trinkets and cigars and...well pretty much anything you can think of!.

If you are a serious fishermen we suggest that you DON’T go with these guys: you should do your research on the fishing charters in advance here in iTravel-Cabo and pre-book a charter with a reputable company if you have time. However if you fancy a few hours trolling some lures with a chance of catching something (in other words a boat ride with a fishing rod!) then by all means take a chance. It is worth saying that at certain times of the year, mainly in December, you have a reasonable chance of catching a marlin just outside El Arco so it may just turn out to be the trip of a lifetime!

If you want a boat and beach trip then you could do worse than El Arco and Lovers Beach : for $30 - $50 (dependent on the length of the trip or how much you negotiate) you will get a short tour around the arch and then be dropped at Lovers beach to be picked up later. It’s fun and the water taxis are very good at returning for you in time. Even if they don’t, someone will take you back!

For the more adventurous and in season you can take a whale-watching trip. the season is from around November until March  and we have a range of tour operators represented here on iTravel-Cabo.com

As you walk around the marina there are a host of bars and restaurants aiming almost exclusively at the cruise ship visitors. You will find bargain buckets of beer, margaritas and all manner of tempting food on offer to draw you in. It’s a lot of fun too: most of the bars are lively and some have entertainment although there is a constant stream of guys with guitars and mariachis willing to play pretty much anything you want from Metallica to Guantanamera!

There are lots of little flea markets adjacent to the marina and many peddlers set out makeshift stall on the marina. One thing: please do not buy anything from the children or from the peddlers with children. Read why here – but you really are making the problem worse rather than helping them out, however tempting it may be to buy from them.

Close to the marina (basically you get there just by following the marina walkway all the way round)    is the world famous Medano Beach and there you can swim, rent a waverunner, take a paragliding trip, a flyboard, a sky-dive…in fact if it can be done on a beach you can do it at Medano! There are some great bars and restaurants right on the beach too if partying is on your agenda.

If you go further back from the marina you will start to get into the shopping areas of the downtown part of Cabo. There are hundreds of little shops selling jewelry , mostly silver, so if you want to buy any gifts this is the place to go to. Be warned though: there have been some cases of tourists getting ripped off even in the little shops (it is almost expected that you will be ripped off if you buy jewelry from a peddler!) so do your research. They should have scales in the shop to check the weight before you buy – the silver is sold by weight and alloys are lighter. The majority of these vendors are honest and will not sell you alloy as silver, but they will try to get the best possible price for what they are selling so be prepared to haggle. Haggling should be good natured and the outcome should be win:win, so stand your ground and offer what you think is fair. If they won’t sell then don’t buy. Simple as.

Back in this area you will find a host of restaurants that are usually better and always cheaper than those on the marina – they haven’t the view to sell so prices are lower and quality higher!

The famous Cabo Wabo, owned by rock-star Sammy Hagar,  is about 2 or 3 blocks back from the marina in the center and probably that’s as far as you want to go. Not because it is dangerous or anything – it’s just that you will be running out of things to see and do in such a short space of time the further you get from the marina. Parallel to Cabo Wabo and all the way back to the marina on the east side are lots of streets with interesting nik-naks and taco stands and restaurants and bars…you won’t be stuck for things to see and do.

If you want a little taste of culture, there is an excellent little museum in the center of Cabo called El Museo de las California's and it is easily found at the northern corner of the tiny Amelia Wilkes Plaza, between Cabo San Lucas Avenue and Miguel Hidalgo. At one side of the museum and plaza is a white, archaeological skeleton of a Grey whale, that makes it difficult to miss. The small museum has a collection of historical artifacts including maps, tools, fossils from the Sierra del la Laguna, and journals that date back to the 16th century expeditions of early Spanish explorers.

If you have enough time then there are plenty of activities for the more adventurous. You can book these through your cruise tour operator of course, but you can also do your research here and go direct. The local  tour guides are very experienced and well used to cruise ship schedules and will handle everything for you.

Whatever you do in Cabo for your day in the sun - you will have a fantastic time in this amazing paradise at Land's End.

cruise ships in cabo tomorrow

People travelling around Southampton this weekend are being warned to prepare for traffic delays as the Saints football game coincides with a number of cruise ships arriving.

The centre of Southampton is expected to be busy with a number of events happening in the city, including increased passenger numbers on Red Funnel Crossings.

Red Funnel are expecting particularly busy services on Saturday, making the waterfront area busier than usual.

On Saturday, Southampton Football Club are also playing at home at 3pm so routes around St Mary’s stadium will be busier than usual before and after the game.

The city council say the temporary anti-clockwise, one-way system on the Ring Road remains in place - from Charlotte Place to the Civic Centre.

Across Friday and Saturday four cruise ships were due to visit the port - Iona, Sky Princess and Arcadia.

On Sunday, four cruise ships will be docking in Southampton - Queen Mary 2, Arvia, Queen Victoria and MSC Poesia.

Florence in California: Carnival launches new Italian-style cruise ship

cruise ships in cabo tomorrow

Carnival Cruise Line is bringing a touch of Italy to Southern California.

The line launched Carnival Firenze, inspired by its namesake city, this week. The vessel sailed its maiden voyage from its Long Beach homeport on Thursday.

“We carry more guests than any other cruise line from California, and now this ship is giving us the opportunity to offer more fun to more people sailing from Long Beach,” Christine Duffy, the line’s president, said in a news release . “The recipe combining this ship’s beautiful Italian theming with the familiarity of our friendly team’s hospitality is, in a word, perfecto!”

The ship is the second in the Carnival Fun Italian Style concept after sister ship Carnival Venezia joined the fleet last summer. Both were originally part of Costa Cruises – also owned by parent company Carnival Corp. – before being rehomed.

Where will Carnival Firenze sail?

The roughly 5,000-guest ship will offer Baja Mexico and Mexican Riviera cruises ranging from three to seven days. Stops include destinations like Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Catalina Island.

What can guests expect on board?

Built in 2020, Firenze was refurbished earlier this year to add Carnival-specific touches. Those include staple venues like the Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse and JavaBlue Cafe.

But the line leans into the ship’s Italian motif. The ship’s atrium was designed with Florence’s Piazza del Duomo in mind and the Lido deck takes influence from the Italian Riviera. There’s even a replica of Michelangelo’s David on board that was previously on Carnival Pride (the real sculpture is located in Florence’s Accademia Gallery).

The theme extends to the food and drink options, with eateries like Italian specialty restaurant Il Viaggio, Mexican-Italian fusion venue Tomodoro and La Strada Grill, serving Italian street food. Frizzante specializes in bubbly drinks, and passengers can sip craft cocktails and Italian coffee at Amari.

Other features include the WaterWorks water park and Serenity Adult-Only Retreat.

How long should I take a cruise?: Here's how short and long cruises compare

How much does Carnival Firenze cost?

Prices vary based on sailing date and other factors, but a five-day Mexican Riviera cruise departing on May 30 currently starts at $409 per person based on double occupancy, according to Carnival’s website . The fare includes much of the food on the ship, drinks like regular coffee and iced tea and more.
