Getter

In an emotionally fraught open letter, Getter has officially canceled the remainder of his Visceral Tour, citing anxiety and frustration in response to overwhelming fan criticism. The tour was nearly complete, meant to run seven more dates through April 13.

See latest videos, charts and news

“I started the Visceral project to move forward with notably my career but my mental state,” Getter wrote. “I thought this tour was an effort to make myself happy and prove to everybody that music is more than just raging on the weekend.”

Getter’s album, which he broke down track by track for Billboard Dance   upon its release, is a clear expression of pain battled with a hope for triumph. The Visceral Tour employed high-end stage production that pit Getter inside a large rib cage behind an LED screen. He took his place behind synths and a mic to deliver his first live performance.

“Imagine working toward something, putting ain all your effort, time and money into something that you feel could FINALLY separate you from the rest and show you DO have purpose. All to just get yelled at, booed and have shit thrown at you because it’s not the cookie-cutter bullshit they are used to,” he wrote. “Criticism is healthy. My friend and I frequently critique each other’s work and it helps the final product. However, the constant hate and the disgusting attitudes I’m faced with are destroying me.”

Hs fellow producers and performers have been quick to defend his honesty and his courage throughout the process. Getter apologized to his “actual fans” who supported him throughout the tour. He told them he loves them, and he’s “so fuckin’ sorry.”

“I am not happy anymore,” he said. “I am canceling the rest of the tour. I need to make myself happy. I can’t do this shit man.”

Getter’s peers have been quick to support his courage and his dedication throughout the process. Read Getter’s full statement below and some of the messages of support from Zeds Dead , JOYRYDE , Ghastly and more.

“I Can’t Do This”: Getter Cancels Tour Over Shitty Fan Behaviour

Esteemed DJ and producer Getter has announced that he is cutting his most recent tour short due to critical, unsupportive crowds.

Getter (real name Tanner Petulla) is best known for his song ‘Uppercuts’ (under his alias Terror Reid) and has spent the last seven years developing his reputation as a creative powerhouse in the bass and dubstep scene.

However, with  Visceral , his latest album, Getter made a conscious decision to move away from his roots. Free from the hardcore stylings that have defined his career to date,  Visceral  was a longer, stranger work of autobiography that took two years to put together.

Initial receptions to  Visceral online were largely positive, with critics calling it a “masterpiece” and the record that “ unlocks Getter’s true potential “.

However, crowds on the  Visceral tour have not been so positive. The tour has been marked by combative and critical audiences — some have booed Getter; others have thrown things at him.

As a result of his difficulty with the crowds, halfway through the tour, the DJ claimed that it was set to be his last. He also expressed his thanks to those trying to help him get through the dates, but admitted that the “hate just won’t stop” and that he “didn’t get it.”

Shortly afterwards, Getter released a statement cancelling the rest of the tour dates.

The statement, shared on Twitter, blames punters’ desire for “cookie-cutter bullshit” as the reason for  Visceral ‘s bad reputation on the road. In it, Getter argues that criticism is healthy, but that the “constant hate and disgusting attitudes” have broken his will to continue touring.

Since the statement was released, fans have rallied around the musician and performer, apologising for the way that he has been treated and encouraging him to defy the haters, and keep living his creative truth.

US Producer Getter Cancels His Tour Over “Disgusting” Fan Behaviour, DJs And Fans Rally Around Him

By Laura English

San Jose rapper, producer, and DJ, Getter (real name Tanner Petulla) has cut short his current tour, saying it will be his last.

Taking to Twitter the multi-talented artist said, “this is my last tour, over it.”

Getter made a lot of noise in the dubstep scene and is known for his track ‘Uppercuts’ under his alias artist name Terror Reid.

Latest release Visceral has widely been regarded as an autobiographical work of art and its early online reactions were mostly positive. On it, Getter says he deliberately moved away from his traditional sound and spent two years writing something completely different.

Taking the Visceral project on tour around the States, Getter was apparently booed by fans and says he even had things thrown at him.

In a devastating tweet, Getter cancelled the remaining seven dates of his tour.

“I thought this tour was an effort to make myself happy and prove to everybody that music is more than just raging on a weekend,” he writes.

“Imagine working towards something, putting in all your effort, time, and money into something that you feel could FINALLY separate you from the rest and show you DO have a purpose.

“All just to get yelled at, booed, and have shit thrown at you because it’s not the cookie-cutter bullshit they are used to.”

He finished the statement apologising to his fans and saying, “I am not happy anymore, I am cancelling the rest of the tour, I need to make myself happy, I can’t do this shit man.” Read the statement in full down below.

He even shared DMs he’d received via his Instagram story, where one person sent, “yo your set was straight trash, I’m sorry man I know you were trying something different but you completely switched it up and no one expected that.”

Now, DJs and fans have rallied around him, offering support, kind words, and encouragement. See all those tweets and statements below.

Getter Simply Quits His ‘Visceral’ Tour After Repeated Booing and Harassment

getter cancels tour

After intense backlash from fans, EDM artist Getter has canceled the rest of his ‘Visceral’ tour.

Getter’s album Visceral dropped at the end of last year, a nice combination of hip-hop, rock, and electronic music. Getter said the album was a way to move forward in his career and mental state.

The music featured on the album was vastly different than anything Getter had produced before.

Just one problem: Getter’s EDM fans loved the party-friendly music that the artist had previously produced, and hated the newer style.  They immediately lashed out at the artist on social media, before taking matters further.

Some reports surfaced of people throwing things at the artist on stage.  Getter later confirmed these events in his bombshell announcement.

getter cancels tour

“I need to make myself happy,” Getter concluded at the end of his announcement.

Reports of Getter getting booed off the stage in Houston for not playing more hardcore EDM surfaced last month. The artist’s response at the time was “boo me all you want; I’m still doing this shit.”

Getter tweeted that same day that he was making music for the wrong reasons.  Now, he feels that he’s found “something I can chase and is much more complex them some dumb trendy bullshit.”

There were seven stops left on the tour along with a few festival appearances, but those have all been cancelled.

It seems as though Getter’s vocal fans have finally got to him.  Some people posting on social media mentioned that Getter shouldn’t be considered an entertainer if he disregards what his fans think.

Others seem to think that Getter pulled a bait-and-switch on them, as they hadn’t heard the album before going to see it live.

Still, others argue that those who booed the artist of the stage were childish to do so, and should have left instead. “You’re a fucking idiot if you went to the Visceral Tour and bitched when he played music off Visceral,” one fan concluded.

Getter Cancels The Rest Of His Tour Due To Fan Criticism

Getter

According to a report from Billboard, Getter, the American DJ, producer, and rapper, from San Jose California, has canceled the last of his Visceral Tour due to tremendous fan backlash and criticism.

Despite the fact his tour was almost complete, Getter had to cancel the remainder of the dates due to the harsh reaction from fans due to stylistic changes.

Reportedly, Getter was supposed to perform until the 13th of April. In his tweet, the artist explained that music is more than just providing a platform by which people party to.

His latest album was supposed to be more introspective and emotional, expressing pain and hope for triumph as well. However, fans were far less enthusiastic about the show, despite the fact, much of the concert was coupled with a high-end stage production, such as the pit, set up as a large rib cage behind an LED screen, housing the DJ during the performance.

You can check out the EDM musician’s tweet below:

https://twitter.com/GetterOfficial/status/1113613494715338753

Interestingly, Getter’s point was echoed by Tim Bergling, or most commonly known by his DJ and artist name, Avicii. In prior interviews, Tim described EDM culture as “toxic,” for its continuous partying, drug use, and other social ills, that are exacerbated only by habitual engagement.

Other artists, DJs, and producers have come out in Getter’s support, praising his courage to do something different as well as his attempt to push the genre in a new direction. In the tweet above, you can see, according to Getter at least, that fans’ reactions were not so congratulatory.

The DJ claims he was booed off stage and some even threw things at him from the audience below. Unfortunately, for Mr. Getter, he has encountered controversy before.

According to the musician’s Wikipedia page, back in 2016, he posted a picture of a fan giving him oral sex after a performance in Las Vegas one evening. He then made a t-shirt featuring the image and sold it as merchandise on his website. He has also been taken to task for criticizing the idea of having opening acts which supposedly cheapens the show.

Getter Cancels Remaining Tour Dates Due to Unruly Fans

Greg Wasik

Dance music artist Getter is fed up with fans not happy with his new musical direction on his current tour and have driven the artist to cancel the remaining tour dates.

Getter stated in a Facebook post:

I started the Visceral project to move forward with not only my career but my mental state. I thought this tour was an effort to make myself happy and prove to everybody that music is more than just raging on a weekend. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Imagine working toward something, putting in all your effort, time, and money into something that you feel could FINALLY separate you from the rest and show you DO have purpose. All to just get yelled at, booed and have sh*t thrown at you because it’s not the cookie-cutter bullsh*t they are used to. Criticism is healthy. My friends and I frequently critique each other’s work and it helps the final product. However, the constant hate and the disgusting attitudes I’m faced with are destroying me. To all my actual fans who have supported me and helped me through this bullsh*t, I love you and I’m so f*ckin sorry i have to do this. I am not happy anymore I am canceling the rest of the tour I need to make myself happy I can’t do this sh*t man

Sad to see some fans were so unhappy with the direction Getter took with his new sound that they drove the artist into a bad place.

We hope Getter gets back out on the road soon and can forget about these fans.

Details on show refunds are not yet available.

Getter Cancels Remaining VISCERAL Tour Dates

Getter

Amidst backlash from fans who were anticipating bass-heavy sets on the VISCERAL Live tour, Getter has canceled the remaining dates in a statement made today.

When Getter announced that his new album VISCERAL would be different from his previous work many wondered which direction he would be taking with the album. Upon its release, it seemed as if the consensus was split as  some listeners found an appreciation for the growth of him as an artist while others struggled to cope with the lack of bass-heavy bangers spread throughout.

After announcing that he would be taking the show on the road, it seemed that Getter had made it clear that the VISCERAL Live shows wouldn’t be filled with heavy drops and wubs but would instead highlight his newer work. Though he continued to make statements on social media ahead of his shows to let them know, the reaction from many in the bass community continued to be negative as many booed him, threw items at him on stage, and more.

Now, they’ve finally pushed Getter past his breaking point as today he took to social media to express his frustration and unhappiness with how the reaction has been to the tour, tweeting out moments ago “you win” with the statement below that the remaining dates on the tour have been canceled:

https://twitter.com/GetterOfficial/status/1113613494715338753

Many of Getter’s fans had reached out to him publicly or privately to show their support, but it seems like the decision has been made to end the tour.

The unhappiness with the entire situation was too unbearable for him to continue playing future shows as he stated: “the constant hate and disgusting attitudes I’m faced with are destroying me”.

Those who have supported him and his album were hit hard with this news, as he still had many upcoming dates on the tour that they were looking forward to catching him at. Details surrounding refunds and more for the remaining tour dates are yet to be released.

Getter cancels the rest of his ‘Visceral’ tour, speaks out on fan backlash

Getter has cancelled the rest of his Visceral album tour.

The producer released his debut album—which fused hip-hop, rock, and electronic into an expressive story on life’s rawest moments and emotions—during fall of 2018 as a way to “not only move forward with my career, but my mental state,” he began in the Twitter statement breaking the news. Visceral was a far cry from the party friendly sounds that brought him fame, and ended up facing immense audience backlash as a result. There were even reports of people throwing things at him from stage in anger, which he confirmed in his post.

“I need to make myself happy,” Getter concluded about his decision to cancel the tour. He’s since received an outpouring of support and encouragement from fellow DJs and fans.

Getter Cancels “Visceral” Tour, Adding He Will Never Tour Again After Fan Criticism

April 3, 2019 by Max Chung Leave a Comment

getter cancels tour

In the past few weeks, Getter’s new Visceral tour has been met with its fair share of criticism from fans, unhappy about the DJ’s change in direction from his earlier dubstep days. When we reported that Getter was booed at previous tour stops we honestly thought that would be the end of it – until today.

After sharing a few negative DMs he received on his Instagram (see one below), Tanner took to Twitter to vent his frustration; essentially announcing that this would be his last tour… ever? Whether or not this stands to be true, it’s clear the producer has just about had it with criticism from fans. Check out his post below and if you have a second send some words of encouragement to Getter – he would definitely appreciate it.

Update: Getter just took to twitter to, unfortunately, cancel the remaining dates of his Visceral tour. Read the emotional letter he wrote below.

getter cancels tour

Having faced backlash from ‘fans‘ for his music and shows as of late – Getter has unfortunately cancelled his Visceral tour with 7 more dates ahead. He had attendees booing at a show because they didn’t like his set as well as messaging him via social media after the show to express their disappointment. After this miserable event, many acts and real fans have had his back and provided support. It should never get to this.

Having moved from his heavy dubstep sound to a more electronic less heavy sound in his latest album ‘Visceral‘. This tour conveniently named ‘Visceral‘ obviously takes a lot of inspiration from his latest album. Many fans did not like this transition from dubstep. However, if you go to a Visceral show and should expect it to be similar to his album. It is really unfair to Getter if you do not like his show. Getter should have never been in the position where he is cancelling his tour, that it out of order. We feel for Getter and really hope for the sake of the artist this does not happen to anyone again.

Getter Cancels The Remainder Of His Visceral Tour After Backlash From Fans

Getter visceral tour cancellation

While the fans and audiences are the ones that can make an artists career in music kick off, they can also bring them down just as fast.

And in a heartbreaking turn of events, Getter just announced that he was finding it extremely difficult to cope with the negativity and backlash he was getting from certain fans during his Visceral tour and was hence calling off the remainder of the tour.

Earlier this week, Getter took to Twitter stating this was his last tour and he was “over it.” While he got immense support from his fans and fellow artists alike on that post, what followed later in the evening wasn’t expected. Getter posted a note to his social media claiming “…the constant hate and the disgusting attitudes I’m faced with are destroying me.” He also profusely apologized to his true fans, but said he would have to go ahead and cancel the rest of the tour.

you win pic.twitter.com/v11La56qt3 — ?????? (@GetterOfficial) April 4, 2019

Getter in the recent past has been faced with booing at shows and getting things thrown at him during shows on this tour. His so-called fans were upset and didn’t appreciate he was playing the music from his Visceral album ON the Visceral album tour! Accepting and sending out a defeated and disheartened note explaining the cancellation of the remaining tour dates, Getter started with a simple “you win.”

The new album saw Getter step away from his comfort zone and the bass-heavy sounds he has been known for in the past. The project over three years in the making finally came to life in late 2018. The 12-track album was released on mau5trap and featured a bunch of collaborations, a lot of which were very unlike his previous collaborators.

Ending on a somber note, Getter signed off saying he needed to make himself happy again and this seemed to be the way to go. While the industry came together as a whole to encourage and support Getter, they were quick to appreciate his courage and dedication throughout the process.

In all honesty, no artist deserves this treatment and his true fans and the industry in unison are standing shoulder to shoulder with Getter to support him and have him back up on his feet. Such reactions would definitely have dampened his spirits, but we’re hoping Getter is back stronger than ever to silence these haters once and for all.

Check out the words of encouragement he got from Zeds Dead, Jauz, Alison Wonderland and a bunch of more artists.

Zeds Dead –

People hated on bob Dylan when he stopped playing folk music. Now nobody remembers that. People will get with the program eventually. It’s growing pains. Sucks that people are throwing shit and booing that’s ruthless. Stay with it ? — ZEDS DEAD (@zedsdead) April 4, 2019

Jauz –

there's too many words I have for this @GetterOfficial situation so I'll keep it short and sweet. If he had put out the same music, done the same tour under a different name everyone would've ate that shit up. but because he tried to be himself yall destroyed it. good going ? — JAUZ (@Jauzofficial) April 4, 2019

Alison Wonderland –

. @GetterOfficial just know that taking risks and being yourself is the best you can be. The right people will get you. I am sorry you are struggling right now but we, in the electronic music community all have your back rn — ALISON WONDERLAND (@awonderland) April 4, 2019

Excision –

. @getterofficial sending love your way bro <3 Visceral is tight, keep pushing boundaries man. — Excision (@Excision) April 4, 2019

Tommie Sunshine –

I hope you don’t give up. I know I’m from the other side of what you do but it you read this I hope you find solace in that this has been happening since music creation has began. @ledzeppelin never got more than 2.5 stars for any of their albums in @RollingStone . — Tommie Sunshine ?✊️? (@tommiesunshine) April 4, 2019

Ekali –

Additionally, don’t think for a second that buying a ticket to a show gets you anything but exactly what the artist intends to give you. You aren’t entitled to hear old music. — Ekali ? (@EkaliMusic) April 4, 2019

Ghastly –

Breaks my heart man, I’ll always support u. U taught me so much about music personally and through ur art, and i accentuate the word art. Thanks for everything you’ve done, I hope u find solace in this decision and it leads to a brighter path, one that you deserve. — Ghastly (◕,,,◕) (@Ghastly) April 4, 2019

Kayzo –

I remember when I first moved to la to learn to make music and was at guitar center looking to buy a midi keyboard and I ran into Steve Angelo with my roommates and we asked him for advice. Only thing he said…”break the rules” that type of encouragement is what the scene needs — kayzo (@KayzoMusic) April 4, 2019

Rukes –

Exactly. Just like when @Avicii did his country set at Ultra and were going how his career is over and it was all crap. Then lo and behold months later “oh shit yeah this is amazing!” — rukes (@rukes) April 4, 2019

Feed Me –

Being dragged kicking and screaming into new eras of an artist’s career is why they’re in the driving seat and you’re not. No one wanted Kid A, no one wanted Sgt. Pepper’s – but we fucking got given them, and how much richer are we now? Hope @GetterOfficial is ok. — Feed Me (@feedme) April 4, 2019

Modestep –

but now we look back at that record, and see it as a defining moment of when we became who WE are, and not everyone else. Yes we had to adjust our sound to make sure our fans stayed happy but it had to come from an honest place. We had to love the new music. — Modestep (@Modestep) April 4, 2019

Louis The Child –

Pains me to see this. I have so much respect for you and the risks you’ve taken. If you’re a fan of an artist, support them and allow them to explore areas you may not be familiar with. We’re not here to make the same song a million times https://t.co/CEsRoFYpNc — louis (@LouisTheChild) April 4, 2019

Here’s How ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Changed Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Setlist

Image of Lauren Coates

It’s been more than a year since the global phenomenon first kicked off, but Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is still going strong. Having performed more than 80 shows (and counting), part of the ongoing appeal of the Eras Tour for Swifties has been keeping track of any and all changes.

Though previously those changes tended to be minor (a new dress or bedazzled leotard here, a cut song there) Taylor surprised Swifties by majorly switching up the Eras Tour set list to celebrate The Tortured Poets Department .

Of course, if Taylor structures her tour by Eras, the only way to structure this update is to similarly go era by era. From new favorites being added to beloved deep cuts getting the chop, here are all the changes to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour .

Taylor Swift performs onstage during "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at La Defense on May 09, 2024 in Paris, France.

If you’re a fan of cotton candy pop and pride anthems, rest easy—the Lover part of the Eras Tour escaped the TTPD setlist changes mostly unscathed. Swift still opens the show with “Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Princ e ,” but “The Archer” has been cut, meaning Lover’ s title track now ends the section.

Fearless Era

If you’re a Fearless lover hoping Swift’s sophomore album is getting a little more love post-setlist changeup, I’m sorry to leave you disappointed, but Taylor’s sticking to the status quo. “Fearless,” “You Belong With Me,” and “Love Story” are all still on the setlist, but it didn’t get any extra love, either.

It’s also worth noting here that the order of the eras has also shifted slightly since the beginning of the tour. Originally, it was evermore , Reputation , Speak Now , then Red , but in addition to switching up the songs in each set, Red, Speak Now , and Reputation are the sets immediately following Fearless —with evermore getting a different fate entirely.

If there’s one portion of the Eras Tour setlist this humble writer thinks is in need of an overhaul, it’s the Red era. At the top of the tour, the singles dominated the setlist: “22,” “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “I Knew You Were Trouble” in quick succession before she takes us to church with “All Too Well 10 Minute Version.” It would’ve been nice if some of Red ‘s more underrated tracks got some love, but no dice—post setlist update, the Red setlist remains the same.

Speak Now Era

Alright, I take back what I said about Fearless being under-appreciated: If you think the Fearless offerings are lackluster, Speak Now has it the worst, by far. The first album penned entirely by Taylor herself, Speak Now , only got a single song on the Eras Tour setlist, “Enchanted,” when the tour kicked off. Since then, she’s added “Long Live” to the mix a few times, but I’m devastated to report that post- TTPD , “Enchanted” is back to being the only Speak Now representation on the Eras Tour.

Reputation Era

One of the most locked-in portions of the set since the tour kicked off (Swift hasn’t changed the costumes or setlist prior to the TTPD album release) has been Reputation , and the introduction of Tortured Poets into the soundtrack hasn’t changed that. “…Ready For It?” “Delicate,” “Don’t Blame Me,” and “Look What You Made Me Do” are all safe and sound (in the same order) in the Reputation set.

“folkmore” Era

Wait, what? You read that right. Where, previously, Taylor had lengthy sets dedicated to both evermore and folklore (no surprise, considering she couldn’t tour the albums when they first came out), they’ve been the biggest victims of the TTPD changeup. Instead of being two separate sets (one after Fearless and the other after Red ), the sister pandemic albums have now been condensed into one era, which Taylor calls “folkmore.”

Sure, some songs had to go, but it’s a bummer to see so many cut from folklore and evermore . Casualties include “the 1” and “the last great american dynasty” from folklore and “tis the damn season” and “tolerate it” from evermore .

taylor swift singing on stage in a new outfit

Like Reputation , Taylor has continued to keep the 1989 portion of the Eras Tour set on lock, and that hasn’t changed with the released of TTPD . The only thing new about the 1989 era is the costume—”Style,” “Blank Space,” “Shake It Off,” “Wildest Dreams,” and “Bad Blood” are all still in the show.

The Tortured Poets Department Era

Taylor Swift singing onstage.

Of course, the whole point of revamping the Eras Tour is to give Swift the chance to perform songs from her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, and thanks to cuts across the other various eras, the tour now boasts 7 songs from TTPD . Complete with stunning new costumes, staging, and choreography, the Tortured Poets songs featured in the Eras Tour are “But Daddy I Love Him,” “So High School,” “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” “Down Bad,” “Fortnight,” “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”

Midnights Era

But while The Tortured Poets Department may be the latest Taylor album (and the reason for the setlist changeup), Midnights is still the era with the honor of closing out the tour. Despite also having a whopping seven songs, Midnights didn’t suffer any losses during the great TTPD revamp. You can still expect to hear “Lavender Haze,” “Anti-Hero,” “Midnight Rain,” “Vigilante Shit,” “Bejeweled,” “Mastermind,” and “Karma.”

Anita Baker cancelled Atlanta concert Mother's Day

Black people don’t play about their mothers. So, imagine their surprise when hundreds of patrons gathered at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Saturday (May 11) to see Anita Baker for Mother’s Day —only for the show to be cancelled minutes before it was set to start.

News anchor Marissa Mitchell shared footage of angry concertgoers leaving the venue that evening. State Farm Arena released a statement that said the show was cancelled due to “late, unforeseen circumstances.”

Anita Baker Says Victoria Monét Made "A Classic Love Song She'd Be Proud Of"

One woman on TikTok expressed, “I’m pissed! Anita bald-headed a** done cancelled the concert. I been waiting for her since January […] We all standing out here, ready, waiting and her bald-headed a** done cancelled the concert last minute. PISSED!! Pissed, Anita. Run me my money.”

In the caption of her post, she explained how excited she was to see Anita Baker. “This was my Mother’s Day gift to myself and how about she canceled the concert while we were standing in line! I spent $180 for the ticket and $55 for parking! This is trash,” the woman wrote.

yall the aunties are down at the Anita Baker concert pissed, omg. pic.twitter.com/amI07MMBCw — Ron (@ronthacreator) May 12, 2024

Others took to Twitter—Baker’s preferred method of communication—to share their vitriol and other assorted reactions.

One person tweeted, “Y’all… Anita Baker cancelled her show minutes before it was supposed to start and my aunty (who’s at the arena for the show) texted the family group chat and said ‘this why she was always getting cheated on, she’s an unreliable b***h.’ OMG sjsjsjffkkksaff.”

Another reacted to the news using a meme of Luther Vandross as a means to reference the late singer’s beef with Baker. Elsewhere, one fan used a “reaction” from Babyface, who was set to tour with the Rapture singer before their fallout last year.

Another fan chimed in , “Not sure what’s going on with Anita Baker and I hope that she’s well. Older stars touring (which seems grueling) to make money is tough to watch. Frankie Beverly literally cannot sing anymore but is still on the road. A true indictment of the industry.”

Baker concluded her Songstress Tour in late 2023 and a July 2024 show that was supposed to happen in Toronto has been marked cancelled on Ticketmaster .

Bayeux: Remembering Liberation 80 Years Later

getter cancels tour

Sitting outside a café, I find myself on the quiet streets of Bayeux, France. The small town, nestled in the Calvados region of France, is a centerpiece in the reembrace of the liberation of France during the first days of liberation after D-Day. The town hosts a population of about 12,000 individuals; however, it feels much larger with the constant flow of tourists in the city. Outside the quiet town, cows and sheep call the sprawling fields of the region home. Minutes outside of the town center, rows of simple white marked and unmarked graves lie outside the city of Axis, Allied, and civilians who fell during the liberation efforts of France. On 14 June 1944, a tall and lanky General Charles De Gaulle strode amongst the incoming parades of liberated Bayeux mere days after the Normandy landings. Sitting in the café, complex imaging filled my thoughts of the narrow and war-torn streets of Bayeux bustling with parades, civilians, army personnel, and tanks upon the arrival of the Allies after liberation.

The British Memorial of fallen soldiers in the Normandy invasions within 5 minutes of the town center.

Today, the rural town of Bayeux still bears the scars and remembrance of WWII. Buildings show the marks of tanks that once traveled the narrow streets. I find myself seeing the town marked by the harsh remembrance of the cost of the landings, yet a celebratory atmosphere envelops the city, especially leading up to June. Leading up to the annual celebrations, the normal population explodes as history enthusiasts and veterans alike return to the historic town to remember the fateful liberation. The remembrance of the war showcases the binary of French memory, a constant battle between commemorating collaboration and resistance.

A drawing on a local shop that depicts the 4 major forces that participated in the D-Day landings in Normandy. The French flag was utilized in this art, but solidiers bore the French Resistance Flags during the landings. The crest of Normandie can be seen at the top of the building with the two lions.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day. While D-Day celebrations and subsequent liberation festivities occur yearly, this year’s atmosphere is uniquely special. During my stay, the town has transformed into an “Allied melting pot,” welcoming tourists from Allied nations who come to commemorate the world-changing event. I would not have expected such a melting pot of languages and cultures in the Calvados region. The intersection of a mass of cultures was scheduled for major cities but not the rural area of Calvados. As an American, I feel welcomed in this small town as American, British, Canadian, and French flags fly through the city. These countries are most well-known in the D-Day landings, but remembrance often forgets the efforts of other countries in the landings, such as Belgium and Luxemburg. While these countries did not play significant roles in the landings, the French remembered their efforts by paying homage to their contributions by flying their flags throughout the city alongside other countries’ collaborations. Throughout the city, locals and tourists dine and shop in areas that proudly display the flags and depictions of Allies in celebratory spaces. Commissioned drawings of depictions of Allied soldiers and civilians during liberation celebrations. This ranges from Much controversy surrounds the French remembrance of their part in WWII. However, the town of Bayeux surpasses all these notions by celebrating the liberation of Normandy as a momentous achievement, which remains a sacred celebration even 80 years later. Bayeux’s civilians continue to welcome the landings’ veterans with the same celebratory spirit as they did on 14 June 1944.
