When Is Markéta Irglova and Glen Hansard’s Tour?

Back in 2007, Irglová and Hansard crossed over in the US thanks to their co-starring roles in the Irish musical drama Once , which featured the duo’s original music and netted them an Oscar in 2008 for Best Original Song with “Falling Slowly.” In 2012,  Once: The Musical debuted on Broadway and won eight Tony Awards.

Their 2023 trek begins with two dates in Dublin on July 13th and 14th before pausing until a US run in August. Irglova and Hansard’s North American run then begins August 8th in Nashville and includes stops at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, The Anthem in Washington, D.C., and Hollywood Cemetery in Los Angeles.

Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová' s creative partnership led them to stunning success: Their acting debut in the 2007 film Once won them a best original song Oscar (for "Falling Slowly"), made left-field hits of the film and its soundtrack, and made the pair a touring sensation. Hansard and Irglová released a 2009 follow-up album called Strict Joy under the name The Swell Season — and performed a record-setting Tiny Desk concert together — but eventually split up and embarked on solo careers.

Now, with a 15th-anniversary reunion tour scheduled for later this summer, The Swell Season has just released its first song in more than a decade: an Irglová composition called "The Answer Is Yes." A natural companion piece to "Falling Slowly" — this time with Irglová singing lead and Hansard joining as the song's second voice — it's a sweepingly sentimental celebration of lives lived in gratitude, without regret.

For those who've lost track of the singers in the 15-plus years since Once — and there are loads of dynamite songs on their respective solo albums — "The Answer Is Yes" fills in a fair bit of context, celebrating the pair's recent triumphs (including a wedding for Hansard) and the endurance of their hard-earned friendship. Here's hoping the song isn't just a lovely coda, but merely the latest chapter among many.

The duo reconvened for the first time in ten years last March 2022 for a limited number of sold-out shows. The response was so overwhelmingly positive they’d hoped to do more shows sooner, but in these modern times tomorrow is five days and next month is next year. Thus, these shows are right on time.

Irglová and Hansard came to prominence starring in the 2007 film Once and winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song with their composition “Falling Slowly” in 2008. A year later they released the critically acclaimed album Strict Joy before branching out into solo careers. The two remained in regular contact over the years making appearances on each other’s records or on stages randomly whenever paths would cross. The shows in 2022 were an extension of their never-ending bond and friendship. 

In 2012, Once, The Musical debuted and went on to be nominated for eleven Tonys, winning eight including Best Musical. It ran for three years on Broadway and is currently still in production as a touring musical. Over the course of the last decade, Once, in all its iterations, has become a modern classic and a cultural touchstone, being referenced in everything from The Simpsons to Ted Lasso . The fan base created by this modern masterpiece looms large in the minds and hearts of many. 

Irglová and Hansard have been incredibly busy in the last year and outside of their upcoming tour, each have a number of projects in the works as well not ruling out the possibility of new music together. Irglová is sharing the aptly titled new single, “H A P P Y” today, which also may serve as the theme song to fans anxiously awaiting more shows since last year. She will also participate as a contestant in the Czech national selection for Eurovision 2023. Her performance airs January 30 th on Czech television and the official YouTube channel of Eurovision Song Contest . Irglová recently released her third full length record LILA to much critical acclaim. Recorded with producer Sturla Mio Thorisson at their Icelandic studio, LILA reflects on Irglová’s journey from her “ Girl in a Movie ” status to wife, mother and artist. A new full length album from Irglová is planned for later this year. Hansard released the single “ Take Heart ” this past October which featured Irglová and was written after spending time with Ukrainian refugees in Ireland. Earlier in ‘22 he toured as part of Eddie Vedder’s Earthlings band and was featured on the Flag Day soundtrack with Vedder and Cat Power.

Glen Hansard  is excited to announce his first full European tour in over four years. Hansard will be joined by his touring band and will be debuting songs from a recently completely new record along with material from his vast catalog. Tickets go on general sale this Friday, 26th May at 10am BST / 11am CEST via  https://glenhansard.com/tour

Known for his dynamic live shows, Hansard, like so many, navigated the pandemic by doing random pop-up shows on Instagram, which turned out to be a rewarding and worthwhile way to stay connected to his fan base. However, it could never take the place of the real thing and Hansard and company are anxious to grace a mixture of new and familiar stages this fall.

Hansard will also be reconvening for a round of Irish tour dates in December. Hansard’s December Christmas shows are the stuff of legend and always feature a variety of surprise guests and deep cuts.  These five Irish shows will close out what will have been a busy “official first year” back after the long hiatus that kept so many sidelined.

Prior to landing in Europe this fall, Hansard has a few commitments already on the books spread across not only the globe but his other musical outlets. He will be performing in Ireland with his long running band, The Frames, as they continue to celebrate over 30 years of making music. Then he will meet up again with his old counterpart in The Swell Season, Markéta Irglová, for a tour of North America as they celebrate 15 years of Once  the movie.

Hansard recently released the single “ Take Heart ” which featured Irglová and was written after spending time with Ukrainian refugees in Ireland. Prior to that he joined Eddie Vedder’s band The Earthlings and was featured on the soundtrack  Flag Day with Vedder and Cat Power. His new record is set to be released later this year.

Khimki is part of the Moscow conurbation, on the banks of the Moscow channel and the Klyazma river, and one of the highest density rate in the region.

Before the city, there were several noble lands, which villages are still exist. During the late 19th century, the site of Khimki station became (and remains) the place of Muscovite dachas. Khimki was granted city status, and the Stariye Khimki development was completed. Since then, development programs have turned the countryside into an important city in the region.

Today, Khimki is not only a residential district, but also an important economic and trade center of the Moscow conurbation.

• Stariye Khimki . The main part of the city with Stalinist architecture.
• Khimki forest area . The quite and remarkable side with classic Russian country houses and dachas.
• Noviye Khimki . The residential district. Not the destination to explore.

Get in [ edit ]

Since Khimki is close to Moscow, has very high population density and a lot of development projects, the city is under blockade by Moscow to protect the capital's transport infrastructure from the flood of people and vehicles migrating in and out every day. There are no ways of comfortable and fast way to get the city.

By car [ edit ]

Khimki is accessible by car via Leningradsky Hwy from Moscow. The part of this highway from Moscow till end of Khimki city limits is the busiest road in Russia.

By public transport [ edit ]

By suburban train from Leningradskii station to Khimki station or Levoberegnaya platform (a district on the left bank of Moscow channel).

A lot of buses and marshrutkas run from Rechnoy Vokzal metro station, at the north end of the Green Line. You can also reach Khimki by marshrutka, bus or trolleybus from Planernaya metro station.

Hailing from Czech Republic, Markéta Irglová born February 28th 1988 is a singer-songwriter, musician and actress with an Academy Award to he name for Best Original Song for “Falling Slowly” at the 80th ceremony, which she co-wrote with Glen Hansard.

Irglová grew up surrounded by music. As a seasoned instrumentalist, she began playing the piano aged 8 and guitar aged 9. She was just thirteen years old when her parents met Glen Hansard, who was best known at the time for fronting the Irish rock band, The Frames. Hansard heard Irglová sing his song “Star Star” and the next day, Irglová was invited to perform with the band on-stage. She was involved in the recording of a track that would make the cut of The Frames’ live album. Irglová started to hone her talent playing her own compositions around the Czech Republic, the United States and Ireland. Together, the duo recorded an album called “The Swell Season” which became an eponymous album released on April 21st 2006. The album featured the song “Falling Slowly”, which would go on to be nominated for a Grammy and win and Academy Award.

She was also cast opposite Hansard in the Irish musical film Once for which she, along Hansard, composed all of the music for. The film gained a lot of critical acclaim for how naturalistic it was on the most part, with some reviews saying, “It may well be the best music film of our generation”. The album that coincided with the release of the film reached 15 on the Irish Albums Chart in its first week, whilst “Falling Slowly reached number 2. The soundtrack has also reached #27 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Following her success with Once, she embarked on a solo career and released the album “Anar” on October 11th 2011. She also released an album entitled “Muna” on September 23rd 2014.

Live reviews

Being a huge fan of the film “Once”, a movie starring Marketa Irglova and Glen Hansard, I have wanted to see her live. The film portrays Marketa as a beautiful artist that effortlessly writes, composes, and performs her music. I had to find out if she would come off the same way in person or if it was all just acting. Luckily, when she played a small hall in my town I was able to get a ticket to see her.

The venue was on the smaller side, so the setting felt very intimate and conducive to her style of music. All of her fans were on the younger side, I would say under thirty, and seemed excited to be seeing her, most for the first time. She took the stage, seating herself behind a beautiful piano and began to play “Let Me Fall In Love”. The audience was receptive sitting in their seats and swaying with the music.

The show went on like that, her playing beautifully, and us in the audience being lulled into a trance of bliss. As she wound up the night she played her most famous song, “Falling Slowly”. This song was made famous in the film once. It was the perfect way to end the night and a perfect concert. Her voice was every bit as beautiful in concert as it was in the film.

Debutant beats favourite in all-Russian women’s sabre final

Competing in her first Olympic Games, Russia’s Yana Egorian pulled off a surprise win over team-mate and favourite Sofya Velikaya in the women's sabre individual event on Monday.

The all-Russian final came down to the wire as Egorian equalised at 14-14 and then landed one last hit on Velikaya.

"It's the biggest win in one's life. It's something that everybody wants to achieve. It was the most difficult fight because Sofya has as much right to this medal as I do. Sport is sport and there can only be one winner,” said Olympic champion Egorian.

The 22-year-old world No.5 had the upper hand on her more experienced 31-year-old team-mate Velikaya, who had to be happy with her second consecutive silver medal after the London 2012 Olympic Games, following a fourth place in Beijing.

World No.1, defending European and world champion Velikaya had managed to survive two scares in the table of 16 as well as in the semifinals when she defeated 15-14 both her rivals, only to miss out on the Olympic gold medal in the decisive bout.

"I'm quite pleased, but I'm not totally satisfied because I got a silver medal,” Velikaya said. "In the beginning after I lost I felt annoyed and sad but now I'm happy that Russia has two medals and that I got the silver. I wasn't moving enough. Everybody has their own strategy and tactics, and I made some mistakes."

Like Velikaya, world No.2 Olga Kharlan from the Ukraine had to be happy with her second consecutive bronze medal after London 2012, defeating 20-year-old French sensation Manon Brunet 15-10.

Kharlan was not completely happy with her performance, with nerves taking over before the final match, but said: "I'm very happy that I got this medal. I can't say it's deserved, but every medal is a gold medal in the Olympics."
