We loved this two hour cruise. It was very comfortable and informative and the crew were helpful and friendly. They also have very convenient hours and great views!

What a wonderful boat ride and a a beautiful day. We really enjoyed seeing the eagles and the beautiful foliage. Great narration about the Hudson River.

The captain was knowledgeable and welcoming. We loved the trip on the boat. We got a good vantage point from which to view the Hudson River and we were able to see historic sites like Olana from the boat.

Our cruise was informative and relaxing. The staff was helpful and the scenery was awesome. Many birds were pointed out along the ride, as well as focal points along the Hudson River.

We had a ball! Our crew was wonderful and it was a wonderful day on the river! Highly recommend for a lovely afternoon with friends and family.

Damaged kingston bridge hurts spring tourism along the st. lawrence river.

May 24, 2024 —

One of the main bridges into the city of Kingston, Ontario has been closed for nearly two months. The bridge, known as the LaSalle Causeway, was damaged in late March during a construction project. The closure has not only affected traffic into Kingston, but it’s also blocked some tour boats from leaving the harbor.

One tour boat, the Island Star, did narrowly pass under a fixed portion of the bridge this week. Elliot Ferguson, who has been reporting on the issue for the Kingston Whig-Standard, says the bridge closure will continue to have economic implications throughout Kingston .

NCPR provides this essential service .

A portion of the LaSalle Causeway was damaged in late March and has been closed since. Photo: Elliot Ferguson, Kingston Whig Standard

EMILY RUSSELL: Can you just set the scene for us like describe the LaSalle Causeway and how vital it is to the city of Kingston

ELLIOT FERGUSON: The LaSalle Causeway connects the east side of Kingstown to the west side. It's a crossing that consists of a fixed bridge, a causeway portion, and there's also what's called a bascule bridge which is a relatively rare design of bridge that involves a massive concrete counterweight that lifts the bridge kind of like a drawbridge.

RUSSELL: What do we know about how the bridge was damaged and what's needed to fix it?

FERGUSON: Well, being a bridge that's over 100 years old, obviously it requires maintenance. In March, there was some maintenance and renovation being done on the bridge and, from what I understand, a portion of the bridge was damaged badly enough that it had to be closed to all traffic. It couldn't be raised to let boats through. Pedestrians, cyclists, and motor vehicles were not allowed to use the bridge. It was it was shut down completely, which isn't great because that is one of four crossings over the Rideau River that connects the cities two halves. So obviously for commuters and for the downtown businesses, it's an important link to get people in and out of the downtown.

RUSSELL: And behind the bridge in the harbor, there are some big tour boats that are now stuck back there. So what have those tour boat operators been saying the impact of this bridge closure has been on them?

FERGUSON: Yes, there are several businesses in a portion of the river called the inner harbor. Probably the most prominent ones are a pair of tour companies that operate large tour boats through this summer season. The season usually starts on Victoria Day weekend. These tour boats travel up and down the St. Lawrence and eastern waters of Lake Ontario. It's a big tourist attraction. They winter in the Kingston Marina and then in the spring they go under the bascule bridge and out into into the lake. With the bridge out of commission, they're stranded, they're stuck in the inner harbor and obviously, if the boats can't sail those companies aren't making any money.

RUSSELL: What's your sense of how this bridge closure is affecting the greater Kingston economy, are the effects tangible there right now?

FERGUSON: I think they are. If you ask the tourism people, tourism officials, they'll say yes. They monitor things like pedestrian traffic and they've noticed a decline because the LaSalle Causeway is a convenient link, it puts places like the Royal Military College and see if CFB Kingston [Sports Dome] within walking or cycling distance of the downtown. The bridge was opened to cyclists and pedestrians [on May 15] , so that's some good news. But yes, the the Kingston economy is suffering. One of the tour operators that I spoke to said that he's hearing from international tour companies that are saying, with the cancellation of their cruises, they're not only canceling that portion of their visit, they're canceling their entire visits to Kingston. So he said, you know, we're getting those calls once a week [and] soon it's going to be several times a week and then it's going to be like every day we're going to be getting calls saying we're canceling tours trips. So there is potential that this could get quite expensive for the Kingston economy.

RUSSELL: What's the timeline for full repair of the bridge and reopening it to car traffic?

FERGUSON: In mid-April, they had said that it would take between 8 and 10 weeks to repair the bridge. They've revised that timeline to between 7 and 9 weeks, but still you're looking at two and a half months of the prime tour season that basically those boats will not be operating. So yes, there is there is concern that this will have an economic impact which is not great because a lot of the downtown businesses are still recovering from the pandemic and so having this as an additional burden is not good.

This was my first time going to A1 bottle return but I will not be my last. Super friendly, clean, easy and no hassle. Leona and the other staff there were efficient and even gave me a tour plus an explanation of how the shop works. I have been literally throwing money away by recycling my bottles at the transfer station or forgetting to use the little credit receipts that I get from the supermarket machines until now. This was easy and I got the deposit money back from soda cans, wine bottles and beers all in one place. Some of my items did not have return value in NY and Leona was careful to show me how to check which could be redeemed and which could not without being dismissive or rude about it and was clear about counting and adding up my returns. This was a simple way to reduce waste into the landfill plus get back my deposit money for all my cans and bottles. I highly recommend.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s son Kingston is all grown up!

The former couple’s eldest child turned 18 on Sunday, with his parents honoring the milestone with sweet social media tributes.

“happiest of birthdays Kingston🤍,” the No Doubt rocker , 54, wrote over the weekend. “my first born baby boy 🙂 cannot believe u are 18 today… i love u! 🥰”

The singer’s upload included photos and video clips taken throughout the little one’s life.

In a post of his own, Rossdale gushed over Kingston’s “massive step into [his] future” as he reached adulthood.

He shared a recent photo of the teen walking beneath an umbrella.

“you have grace, charm and humility. you are at the wheel of your destiny so choose wisely,” Rossdale continued. “your musical talent is nuts and soon the world will hear your heart sing.follow your muse, stay curious and keep creating.”

Rossdale and Stefani welcomed Kingston in May 2006, four years after they tied the knot in London.

The duo went on to welcome sons Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10, in 2008 and 2014, respectively, before calling it quits in 2015.

The L.A.M.B. designer has moved on with husband Blake Shelton , whom she married in 2021 , while Rossdale recently made headlines for his girlfriend, Xhoana X , looking like Stefani .

“you’re telling me that’s not Gwen Stefani?!” one X user asked after the couple’s Mexico vacation photos went viral earlier this month, with another calling the 35-year-old’s resemblance to his ex-wife “bizarre.”

Stefani and Rossdale have only given rare insight into their dynamic over the years, but the guitarist did say last year that they “don’t really” co-parent .

He is also the father of 35-year-old daughter Daisy with fashion designer Pearl Lowe.

SNYDE | Sean Kingston hit with 10 charges after raid on Florida home

The 34-year-old “Beautiful Girls” singer, born Kisean Paul Anderson, is accused of involvement in an organized scheme to defraud multiple companies , according to the arrest warrant reviewed by TMZ.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has hit the Jamaican-American singer with 10 charges — including for grand theft and probation violation — while his mother, Janice Turner, has been charged with eight .

Kingston’s other charges are linked to defrauding banks and writing bad checks, according to TMZ. Kingston, per the warrant, was allegedly on probation for trafficking stolen property when he was taken into custody on Thursday.

Turner meanwhile was arrested hours earlier in a raid on her son’s Miami-area home, conducted by BSO detectives as well as Davie police SWAT.

“People love negative energy! I am good and so is my mother!” Kingston wrote on his Instagram Story that day, just hours before he was taken into custody.

The “Take You There” singer has been accused several times in recent years of skipping out on hefty payments, often for tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars — generally to jewelers . He was sued in March for allegedly neglecting to pay $100,000 for a 232-inch television, according to the Miami Herald.

Kingston was charged as a fugitive when he was arrested in California, where he remains in custody on no bail, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s online records.
