Morocco Tours 6 Days From Casablanca

Fast paced as suggested in the brochure, covering a vast amount of territory. This gave us as the traveller a great opportunity to see various places in Morocco, The local guides were great in their knowledge,A little more general knowledge whilst travelling would have enhanced our travel even more. The Médina tours in Fez and Marrakesh were overlong and rushed. For a general overview of this diverse land this tour had it all.

Our guide Hassan and driver Issa are both amazing. We're a family of four (55, 55, 24, 21) who have lots of road-tripping and do-it-yourself travel experience but had limited experience with guides. Ali was patient and friendly in emails as we edited the itinerary a few times to fit our time constraints and our desire for a day hike. They organized an unforgettable trip, and we stayed in nice riads and hotels throughout the trip. Hassan is friendly, knowledgeable and fun to be with for 09-days. He is good at navigating through all the contrasting situations in Morocco from talking with people in the desert to busy medinas to modern cities. There are too many trip highlights to mention, but it was a special day visiting the market in his hometown of Merzouga and his mother for lunch. Issa is a safe, friendly and professional driver on all types of Moroccan roads. Within the same day, we frequently were on 1-lane switchback mountain roads, busy city areas and modern highways. We are used to driving ourselves, but it was so much more relaxing as passengers. We didn't have to figure out car-rental, parking (which would be impossible near medinas), police stops, or rules-of-the-road. The van was a modern, 3-row van with plenty of room for all of us and our bags. We went in March. It was cool with warm daytime temps and nighttime temps just above freezing. It was a slow season for tourists which meant we often had sites all to ourselves. It was really nice visiting kasbahs, Roman ruins and the desert with few other people around. One word for this tour is ‘’perfect’’. We highly recommend Morocco Tours.

Moroccan Desert Adventure: River Canyons & Camels

We were driving a lot in Marocco, but we could see many facets of the country by doing so. The schedule was tight so I would advice to book one or more extra days to discover Marrakesh on your own afterwards. The bus for Transportation had air conditioning, was comfortable and clean. The driver did a good job, but on same places the winding route across the Atlas can be difficult for people who ten with motion sickness. Get some tablets for that. The guide was helpful and took good care of us. The accommodation varies from very beautiful in Marrakesh to simple in the mountain village. But even the mountain village has showers etc. The food was good and gave us some opportunities to test the local stuff. The prices were about 100 Diram per meal. Which is a bit higher than necessary, but acceptable.

5 Days Unspoiled Sahara and shooting Stars Experience

Morocco Joy Travel has created an extremely unique experience among guided tours of Morocco. The tour operator and creator of Morocco Joy Travel, Ali, offered a personalized and highly customizable tour of the desert that was both adventurous and informative. We ended up doing a lot of off-roading in areas that few tourists see and making a BBQ in the desert. At the same time, I learned a lot about the history of Morocco, its Berber tribes, the customs and life style of the country and its future aspirations. This trip was worth every penny, I will be contacting Ali the next time I am in Morocco to organize another personal tour.

My friend and I recently returned from an unforgettable holiday in Morocco, all thanks to the exceptional services provided by CULTURAL MOROCCO TOURS and its remarkable team! From the very start to the moment they saw us off at the airport, every aspect of the tour was nothing short of amazing. The landscapes we traversed were simply breathtaking, and the accommodations, especially the Riad experience, offered a perfect blend of luxury and traditional Moroccan hospitality, ensuring our utmost comfort throughout our stay. However, what truly made this journey extraordinary was the genuine kindness displayed by every member of the team, from our outstanding driver Abdel, to the knowledgeable local guides, and the attentive hotel staff. The warmth and hospitality extended by every Moroccan we encountered along the way added an unparalleled depth to our experience, making it truly unforgettable. We are immensely grateful to the entire CULTURAL MOROCCO team for orchestrating such an incredible cultural immersion in Morocco. Rest assured, we are already eagerly planning our return to this beautiful country at the earliest opportunity. Thank you once again for creating memories that will last a lifetime!

Private 5 days from Casablanca to Marrakech Visiting Chefchaouen, Fes & desert

What made our trip was our wonderful driver, Sabir. The 5-day tour ended up being a lot more driving than we thought and we didn’t get enough time in each place but Sabir’s knowledge and conversation made the trip! We had issues with the tour operator not booking enough rooms for our group and then having to place us in different places and then some of those places not honoring the bookings. Also, the Fes tour in the Medina ended up being a “exit through the gift shop” sort of tour, where we were brought to places to learn about different businesses and encouraged to buy. Knowing what we know now, we would have just hired a driver to get us from place to place and booked all the accommodations ourselves. (Hiring Sabir!) And we would have planned a 10-day tour to give us more time to get to know each stop. All said, the stops on this tour were wonderful! Such a display of the various landscape of the country… each place was so unique!

7 Days from Marrakech to Casablanca discovering Fes, Chefchaouen and more

This was an excellent tour. We usually don't travel using tours, but I was glad that we choose this one. It was a good break after planning our daughter's wedding. Everything went smoothly- from our pick up at the airport in Casablanca to the drop off 1 week later. Our driver Mohammed was very informative, especially about Moroccan/Berber culture. All of the staff we encountered were great with our son who has Asperger's Syndrome. We want to return to Morocco in the near future.

To be perfect, a 4th day was needed, to enjoy more the desert, because just a sunset and a sunrise is not enough. Our guide was amazing and will return for sure.

Private tour: Casablanca to Marrakech via Chefchaouen, Fes, and Desert.

Morocco is truely a gem. We joined a 7-day tour by CMT. We visited places including Casablanca, Rabat , Chefchaouen, meknes, Fes, ziz valley, Sahara , Marrakech etc .... it was an amazing tour that we will never forget. What I like about this tour is that we get to learn and experience the culture from a local Moroccan ( it’s different from reading the info from books or Wikipedia ). The hotels and riads they chose for us were the best ( esp the riads! It was a huge surprise to see what’s behind the wall of an ordinary alley.. the riads were so beautiful). The arrangement and itinerary designed were perfect and gave us a very fruitful and comfortable trip. We want to send our excellent guide Abdul a big thank you , for making our tour one of the best trips we had in our lives. He is very knowledgeable, humorous and trust worthy. Everything was smooth, we had a very comfortable trip as Abdul had nicely arranged everything for us. We also enjoyed talking to him very much. He told us a lot about the country- its history, politics, language, lifestyle, Berber/amazigh culture , his life living in the Atlas mountains....which broadened our horizons! His presence made the atmosphere lively and joyful. We would also like to thank our wonderful local guide in Fes, Abdulkarin. He is enthusiastic and is a kind-hearted person. He is also very humorous, which made our tour in Fes a very fun one . We love Morocco and will definitely come back for another trip in the future .

What a wonderful holiday in an amazing country. How fortunate I was to have Aissa as my guide and driver. He did everything he could to ensure that I was happy and enjoying my many and varied experiences. He and I had a great rapport which made it easy to adjust to be the only person on my tour. Morocco is a very special place because of the amazing and very varied landscapes, the warm and friendly people in the Riads, and the delicious food. I would love to return one day to go to the many other places I didn’t visit. I will certainly be recommending this as a holiday destination to family and friends. Thank you, Aissa and Moroccan Tours.

My Moroccan adventure was terrific, all the sites were great, The only thing I would suggest is that when going to Fes allow the group more time walking around the medina and less time inside the tannery and the silk shop. There are hundreds of little shops so you'll want to explore those, I highly recommend,

It was an unforgettable tour and the amount of things we could see and do in only one week was unbelievable. Even though we spent a big part of the time driving, there were enough stops in between and I also got this strange feeling that time was passing more slowly on this trip, simply because we experienced so much. In the car, we could watch the scenery from the windows and people when driving through towns and villages. We could also take naps in the car, all in all it was a relaxing trip despite being full of adventure as well. Karim was a great guide, not least due to his humor and smiling. I also saw that he was good at dealing with different people within our group. He seemed to know almost everyone personally wherever we went, chatting briefly with people on our way. A few negatives though, a tiny part of the overall experience. We stopped 2-3 times shops for traditional handicraft (e.g. pottery) which I disliked as I'm not into shopping and found these stops too commercial. A stop at a place for making argan oil products was also too sales driven for my taste although I thought it was interesting to hear about the production process. Some of the women on the group bought something there, so they probably had a more positive view. There was also one stop at the end of the 4x4 excursion in the desert to listen to local music, which I think nobody particularly enjoyed. If you are going to Morocco for the first time, I would highly recommend this tour.

Why Choose Morocco Small Group Tours

morocco tours small group

When planning your Moroccan adventure, consider opting for a small group tour. These tours provide several benefits that can significantly enhance your overall travel experience.

First, small group tours strike the perfect balance between individual freedom and group activities. You’ll have the opportunity to explore at your own pace, while still enjoying the camaraderie of like-minded travelers. This means making new friends and sharing memorable moments without feeling overwhelmed by a large crowd.

Another advantage is the access to knowledgeable guides, who offer invaluable insights into Morocco’s rich history and culture. They can take you to hidden gems such as local Berber villages and desert camps, providing a more authentic experience than you might have on your own.

With a small group tour, you’re more likely to have specialized itineraries tailored to your interests. For instance:

  • Adventure seekers can embark on walks through the High Atlas Mountains
  • Foodies can explore Marrakech’s bustling marketplaces and savor street food
  • History buffs can marvel at the ancient architecture and heritage sites

Lastly, small group tours often provide niche experiences and personalized attention from tour operators. This means getting the most out of your Moroccan getaway while creating unforgettable memories. They can also offer exclusive savings when visiting sites in Morocco.

Experiences of a lifetime

Experience the heart of Morocco, Africa at Europe's doorstep… ancient cities, medinas, kasbahs, and souks… windswept coastline and desert treasures… on a 10-day journey through a timeless land...

Visit the leather tanneries of fes, a trip through time at the ancient leather tanneries of fes.

Like an artist's tray of paints, the huge vats of dyes that decorate the urban landscape around the redolent tanneries of Fes are awe-inspiring... no less than the processes the tanners use to dye and dry leather, virtually unchanged since medieval times. The tanners' tools include water, limestone, pigeon droppings, and their bare feet and hands to knead and dye the leather to its required consistency, which may eventually grace the souks of the medina as exquisite purses and slippers.

Dinner in the desert, Berber-style

Travel by 4x4 vehicle to a berber-style dinner in a desert camp.

In the desert outside Marrakech, ancient Berber villages preserve time-honored folkways and rituals – like the traditional Moroccan tea ceremony – that have survived for centuries. Ride aboard a 4x4 vehicle to one of these villages for tea with the village chief and a crash-course in Berber culture. Then it's on to our desert camp, where dinner is served Berber-style under a tent with musical entertainment. Experience local customs like riding a camel... smoking shisha (using a hubbly-bubbly pipe, or hookah, to smoke flavored tobacco)... or having your hands or feet decorated with traditional henna designs!

Capturing the magic of Marrakech...

Tauck filled every day with the variety and culture of the country we enjoy and have come to expect. The architecture was amazing and the food was fabulous!

About Booking This Tour

Travel Documents

If you are a U.S. citizen traveling internationally , you will need a passport valid for six months beyond the completion of your Tauck journey for entry into Morocco; however, you do not need a visa for the short duration of this tour.

If you are a citizen of another country traveling internationally , you should contact a consulate or embassy of Morocco to determine what travel documentation is required.

Please note that longer stays abroad for any purpose may require additional travel documentation.

We strongly recommend that you make at least two photocopies of all the travel documents that you bring with you. Include copies of the photo page of your passport that contains the date of issuance, the date of expiration and your citizenship. Secure one set of copies in the safe in your room while traveling and leave one set behind with someone at home who will assist you in the event your documents are misplaced, lost or stolen.

To facilitate Travel Requirements, destinations are increasingly utilizing online forms that require digital proof that you've successfully completed your submission (via an email, QR code, etc.) To ensure smooth travels and peace of mind, we strongly recommend all guests carry a personal smart phone and sign up for international data plans before traveling overseas.

TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN AS A GUARDIAN: If you are traveling as the guardian of a child/children, we strongly suggest that you carry a letter from both parents of the child authorizing emergency treatment in the event of illness or accident. For travel abroad, many foreign countries have specific entry requirements for children under 21 who are traveling internationally without BOTH parents. (These requirements are in response to the increased incidence of children being abducted and taken abroad.) PLEASE NOTE THAT TAUCK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE for the disruption of travel caused by improper documentation for children traveling without both parents.

Travel Protection Plan

Effective for plans purchased as of July 1, 2021:

Tauck's Guest Protection

Tauck's Guest Protection provides you with cancellation protection before your journey begins as well as insurance benefits while you are traveling. Guest Protection includes the following:

Cancellation Waiver – Provided by Tauck:

Under Tauck's Cancellation Fee Waiver you can cancel your tour for ANY REASON up to the day before departure and receive a money-back refund (except in Extreme Circumstances*) on the land tour cost, based on your original method of payment.

*Extreme Circumstances:  In the event of an act of God, war (whether declared or undeclared), terrorism, accident, natural disaster, outbreak of disease, or other event or circumstance beyond our control that contributes to or results in cancellation rates above our historical cancellation rates in the absence of such event or occurrence, Tauck reserves the right to issue a credit to you in lieu of a money-back refund, applicable to a future Tauck journey.

Travel Insurance Benefits – Underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company.

  • Trip Cancellation –  If you must cancel your tour due to a covered reason, the plan provides coverage for the amount you paid for your travel arrangements. Since the non-insurance cancellation waiver takes care of the land package cancellation fees already, this benefit reimburses the airfare cancellation charges up to the value of your original airfare purchase.
  • Trip Interruption –  If you have to interrupt your tour for covered reasons, the plan provides reimbursement to catch up to your tour or return home.
  • Travel Delay –  Provides reimbursement for missed, prepaid travel arrangements if you are delayed by a common carrier, natural disaster, unannounced strike, or other reasons as cited in the plan.
  • Medical Expense –  Reimburses covered medical expenses incurred in the event you become injured or sick during your trip.
  • Baggage / Personal Effects Protection –  Provides reimbursement in the event your luggage or personal effects are, lost, stolen, damaged or delayed during your trip.
  • Worldwide Emergency Assistance Services –  Provided by CareFree Travel Assistance; 24-hour emergency telephone assistance hotline for medical and travel related problems.

The cost of Tauck's Guest Protection is: $769 per person

This protection provides insurance coverage that applies only during the covered trip. You may have coverage from other sources that provides you with similar benefits but may be subject to different restrictions depending upon your other coverages. You may wish to compare the terms of this policy with your existing life, health, home and automobile policies. If you have any questions about your current coverage, call your insurer, insurance agent or broker.

This optional Guest Protection must be requested at time of booking and fee must be included with initial payment. Fees are based on costs as of July 2021, and are subject to change. Details will be provided with written confirmation of your tour reservation. Guest Protection does not protect travel agent commissions. Reimbursements will be made according to original method of payment. The amount of any refund shall be reduced by any recoveries obtained by you from any third parties.

The Guest Protection plan waives cancellation fees outlined below, provided we are notified of cancellation before your tour departs. Tour cancellation fees are waived regardless of reason, without written notice, and Tauck will refund land tour cost.

To obtain your state-specific Certificate of Insurance that contains the complete terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the certificate, visit  affinitytravelcert.com/docs/TACGPPINTL .

If You Have To Cancel

If you cancel within 10 days of initial deposit Within the first 10 days after you place your initial deposit, you may cancel your reservation for any reason with no cancellation fees. If you cancel more than 10 days after initial deposit Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed bookings. These fees vary from tour to tour. Therefore, the following fees apply.

Loss of Guest Protection fee, per person

Cancellation Fees without Tauck's Guest Protection Plan :

90 days or more before departure = $600 per person

89-8 days before departure = $1250 per person

7-1 days before departure = $2000 per person

Time of cancellation will be when notice is received in our Wilton Woods, CT office.

In the event of an unforeseen circumstance beyond our control, Tauck reserves the right to amend the cancellation terms outlined herein.

Travel Requirements For This Tour

Air Information and Luggage Restrictions

AIRFARE: Airfare to and from this destination is not included in the journey cost. If purchasing your air elsewhere, it is very important to provide us with your confirmed arriving and departing flight information no later than 3 weeks before your arrival date. Flight information can be submitted to Tauck (or verified, if you've already provided it) in the My Account section of Tauck.com.

TAUCK AIRPORT TRANSFERS are included at the start and end of the journey between the airport and the Tauck hotel. Airport transfers are available for any pre tour or post tour hotel stays immediately consecutive to the tour, providing flight information is received in the Tauck office no later than three weeks in advance. Details on locating your transfer upon arrival to the tour start city will be included in your final documents.

AIRLINES and CHECKED LUGGAGE: Due to space limitations during your Tauck journey, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one average-size suitcase per person. Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and are free to revise luggage policies without notice. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies. PLEASE NOTE that if you are booked on a tour that includes on-tour flights, the checked luggage weight restrictions for these flights may be lower than the weight restrictions for your international flights.

Checked Luggage – General

Due to space restrictions, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one suitcase per person weighing no more than 50 pounds (23 kg) and with overall dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 62 inches (158 cm).

Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and luggage exceeding airline standards for size or weight may result in expensive overage fees or other consequences.

Airlines are free to revise luggage policies without notice, and certain airlines have different baggage allowances for different classes of service. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies.

Tauck luggage tags will be provided by your Tauck Director on Day 1 of your itinerary. Please do not attach a Tauck luggage tag to any carry-on items, as the Tauck tags designate luggage that is to be handled and transferred by ground operators and hotel staff during your journey.

Carry-on Luggage - General

Although oversize bags and wheeled, carry-on luggage are popular for airline travel, they are often not convenient or appropriate for motor coach travel. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in the overhead rack is typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, and small camera bags, etc.

For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and that you bring only those items you need handy during the day such as make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or on the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may be inaccessible during daytime travel.

Health, Safety and Mobility

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

While drinking water is generally safe at all our hotels, bottled water will be available wherever the local water is not fit to drink. We also provide bottled water on the motor coaches.

Please check with your health insurance provider to determine whether you are covered while traveling. If you will not be covered under your current policy, we strongly suggest that you arrange for adequate coverage while on tour.

If you have a medical condition that might limit your participation in activities, please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice and notify us as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. We will advise your Tauck Director accordingly.

VACCINATIONS

If you are a resident of the U.S. traveling internationally, no vaccinations are currently required for travel to Morocco. For complete vaccination and inoculation information, contact your physician, the public health service in your area, or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. The Travelers' Health Section of the CDC operates a 24-hour "Travelers' Health Hotline" at 800-232-4636 (toll-free in the U.S.). You may also log on to the CDC website by clicking here .

If you are a resident of another country traveling internationally , please contact an embassy or consulate of each of the countries on the itinerary to determine what vaccinations may be required for you to visit.

To enjoy this active tour, you should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances, often over unpaved and uneven surfaces. Some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot. The amount of walking you do, however, is at your discretion. We recommend that you pack sturdy, comfortable walking shoes that have already been broken-in to appreciate fully what Morocco has to offer.

Active components such as hiking, bicycling and walking longer distances may be included, and hills and/or uneven terrain may be encountered on several days. Guests should be able to walk two-to-three miles and stand for long periods of time with no difficulty. Your journey is moderately paced, and may include some early morning hotel departures and extended motorcoach travel.

PLEASE NOTE: We regret that this Tauck itinerary cannot accommodate wheelchairs or motorized scooters. Likewise, we regret that we're unable to provide individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other personal needs. The responsibility of the Tauck Director who accompanies your trip is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest. Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.

SPECIAL DIETARY REQUESTS

The restaurants, hotels, caterers and numerous other partners we work with all do their best to accommodate special dietary requests from Tauck guests. However, given the diverse nature of those food providers (from small wineries to grand hotels to world-famous restaurants in more than 70 countries worldwide), some of our partners are better able than others to accommodate such requests. We therefore cannot guarantee that all dietary requests can be accommodated at every meal. Also, please note that where dietary requests can be accommodated, choices will frequently be limited.

Reading List

We have compiled a reading list of recommended books to give you more information about the destinations you will be traveling to on your upcoming journey!

You can view the reading list  here.

It's hot and sunny for most of the year in Morocco. During the peak summer months it gets uncomfortably hot especially in Marrakech, Fes and southwest Morocco. Rabat and Casablanca are a bit more comfortable in the peak of summer because they benefit from a cooler ocean breeze.

What To Pack

Your journey is designed with leisure in mind. Dress for comfort and convenience with a wardrobe that is adaptable and allows for layering. Generally, during the day, casual, comfortable, cotton clothing is recommended. Cool weather at higher elevations or at night will require warmer, layered clothing.

As Morocco is a Muslim country, dressing modestly will make both you and the people you meet on your travels more comfortable.  Generally this means covering the shoulders and knees.  Women will need to cover their hair only when we visit the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.  Scarves will be provided on the tour.

We recommend that you pack an adequate supply of your prescription medication in its original container to last through your entire journey, together with a copy of your doctor's prescription or a letter from your health-care provider on office stationery explaining that the medication has been prescribed for you, a list of the generic names of your medication, your travel documents and a change of clothing in your carry-on bag to avoid any inconvenience in the event that your flight or luggage is delayed.

Following is a list of recommended items to pack for your journey to Morocco:

  • Cotton, cotton/synthetic and linen clothing
  • Light weight shirts, pants, capri pants and dresses
  • Light jacket or sweater
  • Jacket and tie and casually-elegant attire for fine dining
  • Comfortable walking shoes that will work well on uneven or cobblestone pavement
  • Shoes will only need to be removed when the tour visits the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.  Please bring at least one pair of socks for this visit.
  • Hat (a wide brimmed hat is recommended)
  • Collapsible umbrella
  • Camera, lenses, batteries, memory cards and chargers
  • Soap leaves, travel packets of tissues, handkerchiefs and hand sanitizer
  • Travel alarm clock/cell phone with alarm function (many hotels do not have clocks in the rooms)
  • Copies of your travel documents that should be secured in the safe in your hotel room while traveling

Please refer to the Necessary Gear website at  www.necessarygear.com  as one option available to you for renting and purchasing apparel, PPEs, and other items appropriate for your journey.

Show Full Itinerary

Salaam Alaikum! Welcome to Morocco, and the great city of Casablanca, the perfect place to acclimatise to the culture. Your adventure begins today with a welcome meeting at 6 pm, if you arrive with time to spare, then perhaps visit the art deco Villa des Arts, this gorgeous gallery dates back to the 1930s and holds numerous exhibitions of contemporary Moroccan and international art. If you are looking for a different type of cultural experience, then you can discover a unique and fascinating part of Moroccan history at the Museum of Judaism.

After breakfast, Casablanca exploration beckons. Tour the Hassan II Mosque which is one of the only religious sites open to non-Muslims and can accommodate 25,000 worshippers. Next, drive to the capital of Rabat where you’ll meet an expert local guide. Rabat's history is long and colourful, having been host to Roman settlements, pirates, and more recently the Moroccan parliament. It contains numerous fine Arab monuments, some dating from the 10th to 15th century Almohad and Merenid dynasties, and others that are far older. Discover the city’s medina and souks, then explore the lovely walled quarter known as the Kasbah des Oudaias and enjoy a glass of mint tea and some local sweets. Afterward, continue the walk to visit Mohamed the 5th Mausoleum and the vast minaret of the Hassan Mosque. You’ll have some free time to explore Rabat before driving to Meknes, the former capital of Morocco, where you’ll spend the night.

Join your leader and explore the winding streets of Meknes’ old medina and their elaborately decorated public buildings while the shrine of Moulay Ismail is closed for renovation. Next, drive to the nearby archaeological site of Volubilis, the remains of which make an undeniably impressive sight as they come into view on the edge of a long, high plateau. Tour the ancient hilltop ruins with an expert local guide, and discover the town’s elaborate mosaics along the Decumanus Maximus, many of which remain intact. Afterward, travel to Chefchaouen, or the ‘blue city’, which is arguably one of the prettiest places in Morocco. Set against a wide valley and nestled between two peaks in the stunning Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen has been lovingly cared for with striking blue and whitewashed houses, red-tiled roofs, and artistic doorways. Take an orientation walk with your leader through the ancient medina and shop for handicrafts, or sit at a cafe and enjoy the pleasure of time passing by. If you're feeling peckish, the local goats' cheese is a popular treat.

Enjoy a free morning to further discover Chefchaouen and perhaps enjoy lunch before boarding your private minibus for the journey to Fes. The living museum of Fes has disputable origins, some believe its origins come from ancient Greece, others claim it comes from the Balkans. Nevertheless, the city is the best example of the medieval Arab world, and you are soon to find out more about its past and modern times. After checking into your hotel in the late afternoon, join your group for a memorable dinner of one of the city’s signature dishes, the salty and sweet pastilla.

Today you will discover the city of Fes, the spiritual and cultural heart of Morocco – vibrant, noisy, fascinating, and occasionally overwhelming – a visual and pungent feast for the senses. Join an expert local guide and head into the old city, known locally as Fes el Bali, arguably the world's most fascinating and confounding old city. Walk along the twisting streets and alleyways, passing donkeys piled high with goods, and explore the specialty sections that divide the souk. Filled with historic khans, madrassas and dye pits, stalls loaded with fruits, herbs and soups, and where the squawk of chickens, the smell of spice, and sound of hammering of copper fills the air, it’s not hard to imagine yourself back in the Middle Ages. Spend the day exploring the old city, visiting Medersa el Attarine, the tanneries, and the Fondouk Nejjarine, a beautifully restored 18th-century inn. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon for a free evening.

Today, leave the intensity of the city behind for the simplicity of the High Atlas Mountains. Drive south, inland through a variety of spectacular scenery – fertile valleys, cedar and pine forests and barren, rocky landscapes – to the small town of Midelt. Originally built as a base for mining in the area, this market town is nestled between the Atlas and Anti-Atlas Mountains at an elevation of just over 1500 metres. It's a perfect spot to break up the journey to the Sahara and is a great base for an easy walk through the valley to one of the local villages. Your leader will choose a route based on the group and the weather that makes the most of the astonishing views of the Atlas Mountains, with snowy peaks almost touching the sky. Wander through plantations of apple trees on the way back to your accommodation for a relaxing evening, resting up before the Sahara tomorrow.

Drive through changing scenery, from barren mountainsides to fertile valleys, on the journey to Merzouga this morning which takes in the Erg Chebbi with its towering dunes up to 150 metres in height. Located at the end of a sealed road and just 20 kilometres from the Algerian border this really feels like frontier country. You will leave your gear at your overnight camp next to a simple hotel and then ride camels into the edge of the Sahara Desert, enjoying a spectacular sunset along the way. The dunes are stunning, especially as the evening light plays across them and sets off the colours. Tonight you will camp out in traditional style, with the chance to try some fantastic local cuisine while you sit around an open fire, enjoying lively music and dancing under the stars.

It’s worth getting up early to catch the sunrise before the drive to Todra Gorge, a massive trench that rises over 250 metres to form one of the most dramatic and spectacular natural sights in Morocco. Explore the towering limestone stacks on a short 45 minute walk through the sheer cliffs. Continue your journey inland for tonight’s destination, M’goun. You will get closer to the customs and lifestyle of the Berber this evening with the night spent in a traditional Berber house called a gite, a simple yet charming abode made from mud-bricks.

You have a full day to explore the beauty of this largely untouched Moroccan backcountry. On foot is the best way to discover the natural and man-made landscape and the rural way of life. There are a couple of circuits to choose from, but the most popular choice, and the one we recommend, is a 10-kilometre circuit that will take about 4 hours. Accompanied by a local guide, you’ll walk a trail that undulates slightly here and there, but isn't too challenging if you have a basic level of fitness. The surrounding mountains and the famous Rose Valley make a sensational setting.

Leaving the M'goun Valley today, set off on the fabled ‘Road of 1000 Kasbahs’. The first stop is at Skoura Oasis, home to several privately owned kasbahs. Here you’ll visit the Kasbah Ameridhl, with its extravagant decorations and mud-brick fortifications before continuing on your journey to Ait Benhaddou. Perched on a hilltop and almost unchanged since the 11th century, Ait Benhaddou is one of Morocco's most iconic sites. If you think you recognise the place, you probably do, as the town has a long list of film and TV credits, including Lawrence of Arabia, Game of Thrones and Gladiator. Enjoy a walk through the winding streets of the old town, making your way to the top of the hill, from where you can enjoy the views across the surrounding plains. Pay a visit to the Tawesna teahouse on the river, a community-run establishment that provides local women with an income to support themselves and their children. Using ingredients sourced from local cooperatives, the women prepare delicious tea and pastries while sharing their stories with those who pop in to visit. After heading to your nearby hotel for the night, maybe sit back on the rooftop terrace and watch the sun setting over the kasbah.

Today you will drive along the winding roads of the Atlas, bound for Marrakech, an ancient city wrapped in European modernity. There’s no rush as the scenery through the High Atlas Mountain passes is magnificent, and there will surely be calls for several photo stops along the way. After checking in to your hotel, you might like to head to the great square of Jemaa el Fna, one of the largest public spaces in the world and unique to Marrakech. When night falls it transforms into a hive of activity. Henna painters, performers, and storytellers share the square with a street food bazaar, packed with stalls loaded with Moroccan delicacies. Perhaps finish your day with a cup of mint tea on one of the roof-top restaurants overlooking the square.

After breakfast today, meet your local guide and set off on a morning tour of the old medina, through the bustling souks that are the lifeblood flowing through the city. Explore tranquil courtyards filled with the scent of orange blossom, and the many salons and chambers that make up Bahia Palace. This splendid mansion was built in 1866 for a former slave who rose to power within the government. Stop by the Koutoubia Mosque, its famous minaret is the prototype for others of its kind around the world, including La Giralda in Seville. Then walk back through the streets of the old medina to the Jemaa el Fna to enjoy a refreshing glass of fresh orange juice. The rest of the day is free to explore further or shop in the bazaar. Perhaps visit the tropical gardens of the French painter Jacques Majorelle or check out the ruins of the Palais Badi, once one of the most beautiful palaces in the world. Otherwise, you might like to head back into the medina, where every step brings a new smell, a new sight or a new gift to buy. Watch skilled artisans perfect their craft, practice your haggling skills, or take a break from the hustle to sip on tea or share a tajine, filled with the pure scent of Morocco.

There are no activities planned after breakfast so you are free to leave your accommodation at any time. It’s worth adding a night or two in Marrakech so you can do some extra activities like cooking classes and cycling tours, exploring nearby towns or visiting a hammam. If you wish to spend more time here, we'll be happy to book additional accommodation for you (subject to availability).

Intrepid Continues to Support the Rise of Responsible Tourism in Morocco

Intrepid Travel , the world’s largest B-Corp-certified travel company, is introducing four brand-new trips in Morocco for 2024.

Intrepid's Morocco tours have seen significant growth since the pandemic and the country is now one of its top-selling destinations globally. Intrepid has partnered with the Moroccan National Tourism Office to expand the potential of tourism in the country. The three-year partnership aims to increase the number of visitors in the country to 50,000 each year by 2026.

With 73 local team members based in Intrepid’s Marrakech office and over 2000 departures in the country per year, Intrepid is one of the leading tour operators to the country.

The four brand-new trips include a rare venture through Morocco’s best kept secret, the Happy Valley, or Ait Bougmez region of the High Atlas Mountains. Traversing the country’s third-largest peak by foot, travellers on  Intrepid’s Trekking in Morocco Happy Valley in High Atlas  (NEW 8-Day Trip from $1180 USD) will explore cascading waterfalls, ancient ruins and lush vegetation, stopping for homecooked meals in rural villages while learning about the rich history of the Amazigh people, the community that inspired the name “Happy Valley”.

Other New Trips Include:

Other new experiences include a M'goun Valley Henna Ceremony on Intrepid’s  Morocco Uncovered  trip, where travellers will learn about the history and significance of henna tattoos and receive their own designs from Naquasha women; and a Taman’Art Space visit on Intrepid’s  Premium Morocco  tour with a local artist on a terrace overlooking the mountains.

“We are thrilled to be launching this new partnership with MNTO, investing more in the development of tourism in my home country,” says Hala Benkhaldoun Morocco General Manager for Intrepid Travel. “Morocco is an extremely special place – one that more of the world should have the chance to see,” she adds.

In addition to expanding offerings in Morocco, Intrepid’s non-for-profit  The Intrepid Foundation  has introduced a new partnership with Moroccan nonprofit  The High Atlas Foundation , as one of 22 new partners for the brand globally in 2023.
