Not to mention the teaching programs in Spain – both private and thru the government. There are something like 5K positions for English speakers in the public government system, and the private have 60-hundreds depending on which. I did the North American Language Assistants program from 2007-10.
WOW. There is so much opportunity out there—it’s almost hard to believe!
I am happy to provide links if you’d like to add them.
Cracking list. Another couple of teaching options are Chile’s English Open Doors and Speak Italy. Speak also have a teen programmer. I guess from your point of view working in the USA isn’t abroad but Brits and other nationals can use CCUSA to be placed in summer camps in the USA, as well as the other destinations you mention (those from outside the US are given the option of selecting country specific websites when visiting the url you give).
Another idea for Brits, and a few other commonwealth countries, is the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust.
And, lastly, I edit the Jobs Abroad Bulletin which lists new vacancies around the world very week (or two): https://www.jobsabroadbulletin.co.uk/latestjobs/
Great resources here. One correction I might add is that Club Med is Chinese owned now as of 2019. Fosum finally managed to take them over which should be a positive inflow of cash. Fosum also recently bought defunct Thomas Cook.
How do I find these opportunities?
Thank you SO much for all the links here! It’s amazing and truly inspiring – knowing that we have a choice and a chance to get out of the shell and explore our beautiful world, helping society as well.

Work & Travel Programs
Work & Travel programs are designed to help support our travelers who elect to travel on a temporary work visa. The idea behind the program is to help our travelers secure employment so they can fund their travels and cultural immersion experience.
These programs provide an ample amount of support and are a service for those who don’t feel comfortable finding work on their own. Programs often include arrival orientations, job and housing s upport , 24/7 in-country staff and other perks like insurance, visa assistance, and an alumni community. Each program has its own inclusions, so be sure to read the specific details for the program you’re interested in.
Working Holiday Visa
What is a Working Holiday Visa?
This is a visa that allows individuals to work (and sometimes study) without undergoing the process of employer sponsorship. In other words, those who enter a country utilizing a working holiday visa are not tied to a single employer.
Am I Eligible?
These are the visa eligibility requirements mandated by most government entities (this may vary based on citizenship):
- Citizen of one of the following: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, EU
- Be between the ages of 18-30 years old (up to 35 for some countries excluding the USA)
- Must be outside of the country while undergoing the visa application process
- Must have a valid passport with an expiration date that exceeds the Working Holiday visa end-date by at least 6 months
***Your citizenship country must have a standing Working Holiday Agreement with the country you intend to work in (i.e. New Zealand, Australia, or Ireland).
***If you are unsure if you are eligible for the Working Holiday visa, please email us!
How long is the validity of the visa?
This visa is valid for up to a year!
When Should I Apply?
You should apply for your Working Holiday visa at least two months before your program start date to give the consulate enough time to award your work permit. It is great to apply in advance, but also note that in most cases after the visa is awarded, you’ll have 6-12 months to enter the country and activate the visa. If you apply too early, your visa can expire.
Don’t worry! We have built the timing of the visa application process into your Work & Travel program; we will advise you when to apply!
Why Would I Pay to Work?
These types of programs don’t have direct government funding, so t raveler s who want to work abroad must cover some of their own expenses. When programs cost money, we do try to keep them as cheap as possible (we are a non-profit!) , but there are some costs associated with running a program when it does not have any direct funding. Depending on the country and program you choose, you could make money in the end, it all depends on what type of experience you want to have.
Program fees also go toward you! We have airport pickups, orientations, and a pre-departure package with some Greenheart swag and other perks depending on the program. Program staff will be available to answer any questions before and after arrival. Read more here.

Program FAQs
Can I bring a pet or child?
No, you cannot bring your children or pets. The programs are not structured to accommodate dependents as there are many other logistics to keep in mind that we cannot guarantee we can meet. If you are bringing a pet or child with you abroad, it may be best to consider finding work on your own so you can guarantee proper housing, childcare, schooling, etc.
Can I apply with a friend, spouse, or significant other?
Yes, you can apply together! However, whether you will end up being placed together depends on the country and your flexibility. We guarantee that can place people together for Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland.
Will I be alone?
This depends on the program.
Australia and New Zealand are designed as group experiences with large Welcome Weeks. Of course, when you begin working it is your choice whether you would like to stick with friends or pursue your own travel experience solo!
Ireland and Argentina Work & Travel are programs that are designed around the individual. Start dates are largely determined around when the traveler is able to arrive in the country, which means you may arrive alone.
The Thailand Marketing program is a competitive internship with limited placements. How many interns we accept depends on how many available positions we have; you can be the only intern.
Can I choose where I’d like to work in the country I’m going to?
Most Work & Travel programs allow you the flexibility to choose where you’d like to live and work. In the case of Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland Work & Travel you may choose where you’d like to be based. You can even move and work in multiple areas throughout the country!
Family & Friends Support
We understand that a Work Abroad experience is a big step for everyone involved. For this reason, upon acceptance to all Greenheart Travel programs we provide the following support materials that we encourage our travelers to share with their loved ones: program orientation packet (includes all details of the program), emergency contact numbers, and insurance documents.
How do I contact my loved one who is working abroad?
In most cases, our programs include a local SIM Card for your loved one’s smartphone. The SIM card will allow for purchasing of data, text, and call plans. Additionally, mediums like Facetime, Whatsapp , Facebook Messenger, and Skype are widely available in all Work & Travel locations so you and your loved one can stay in touch!
Can I visit my loved one during the Work & Travel program?
This is a program-specific answer. For Work & Travel Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland you are more than welcome to visit your loved one as these programs run for longer durations (up to a year).
For programs such as Argentina and Thailand, we recommend planning your visits for the end of the 3-month work program when your loved one is likely to have more free time and is likely to do a bit of traveling.
My loved one is a young adult applying for a Work Abroad program, can I attend the interview or call in for my loved one?
Like any travel abroad experience, Work Abroad programs are challenging and do require our travelers to be independent critical thinkers. Greenheart Travel applicants will interview with employers abroad face-to-face, so the initial program interview with Greenheart Travel should be seen as preparation for work interviews abroad. Applicants must prepare and attend this alone (without friends, family, or loved ones) as they would with any job interview.
Work Abroad Q&A calls are reserved for potential Greenheart Travel applicants who are eligible only when they are an adult (18+) . In our experience, chatting with both a loved one and applicant separately can lead to miscommunication. Additionally, if an applicant is to work abroad, this individual needs to have a complete understanding of all the steps we took to get there and must be able to communicate with our staff directly.
If you are a loved one of a current applicant and you have questions that have not been addressed , please ask the applicant to email Greenheart Travel directly with those questions.
Every year we offer scholarships for our Work Abroad programs!
Application Process
Please note the process is a little bit different for each program. For most programs, however, the process is as follows.
1. Start Your Application Here . You will be sent more information as well as the link to our application portal to begin your formal application.
2. Submit Basic Program Information: The first step in our application portal will be basic things like your chosen start date, etc.
3. Submit your deposit : A $300 deposit is required in order to apply for the program. This is subtracted from your total program fee. If we are unable to accept you following your interview (very unlikely!) we will refund your deposit in full.
4. Complete Application & Documents : Provide more detailed information about yourself in Part 2 of the application. In this section, you’ll tell us more information like your work history, motivations for joining the program, travel history, and emergency contacts. You will also submit your documents (below) within your portal account.
5. Skype Interview: Once you have submitted your online application and paid your application deposit, you will be asked to schedule a video interview with a Greenheart Travel representative.
6. You’re Accepted! Woohoo! We are usually able to accept people within 1-2 weeks of their interviews.
7. Commitment Deposit: Once you are accepted to the program, you will need to submit a $300 commitment deposit within 14 days to confirm your spot on the program. Once you submit your commitment deposit you will unlock the acceptance portion of your portal, which includes things like pre-departure videos, travel and arrival information, the Greenheart Travel Atlas, and more.
9. Book your flights, and get ready for your adventure! Your final remaining balance will be due 60 days before you leave.

- Research local customs: Learn about the host country's customs, traditions, etiquette, and social norms before arrival.
- Learn basic phrases: Familiarize yourself with basic phrases in the local language.
- Maintain flexibility: Be prepared for unexpected changes or challenges that may arise during your stay.
Making the most of learning opportunities
A volunteering or work exchange program is an excellent opportunity for personal growth and skill development. Here's how to maximize your experience:
- Nurture relationships: Connect with fellow volunteers, hosts & locals - they can provide valuable insights into their culture & experiences while also expanding your network globally.
- Treat each task as a learning experience: No matter how small or menial it might seem at first glance; each task offers unique opportunities for acquiring new skills or honing existing ones.
- Create personal goals: Determine specific objectives you'd like to achieve during your work exchange & actively pursue them.
- Beyond work hours: Incorporate activities outside of volunteer hours such as exploring local attractions/sites/events etc.
By following these tips diligently, you'll be well on your way towards achieving a successful and fulfilling work abroad experience.

A Guide to Jobs & Work Abroad Programs
Work abroad programs are a great way to earn more than just money. The list of advantages is practically endless: broadened horizons, new skills, improved independence, new friendships (and business relations), a new language added to your repertoire, and a boost to take your career dreams to the next level. You’ll be having so much fun overcoming new challenges and having new experiences that your job abroad won’t even feel like work; rather, it’ll be like one crazy (paid!) adventure.
How to work abroad
So how do you even get a job abroad ? Well, you’ll want to start by finding the destinations where you can legally work abroad and then start your job search. Or, you can find a job that allows you to work abroad, and they will often sponsor your work visa.
You can also get a job overseas with no experience ! In fact, teaching English abroad is the perfect job in that particular scenario. However, if teaching isn’t your true calling, you can either apply for international positions while still at home, or apply for a work visa abroad and figure things out once you arrive.
Here’s how to get a job abroad:
- Choose a destination. Places like Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland grant Working Holiday Visas to citizens of certain countries and who meet an age requirement. If you want to work abroad for a year or permanently, then you’ll want to secure a job offer prior to applying for work visas abroad.
- Choose your field. Sometimes, it’s easier to figure out what kind of job you want prior to choosing the destination. The demand for certain positions is higher in some countries than others, which will make your job search a lot easier (or more challenging).
- Apply to open job opportunities. Once you know where you want to go and what kind of job you want overseas, then it’s time to start applying to work abroad programs! The length of this process will vary depending on your qualifications and prior experience, and perhaps even your proficiency in the local language.
- Apply for a work visa. Once you find your job, then you can apply for a work visa. Most likely, you’ll need to show proof of a job offer in order to qualify. There should be someone at your new workplace who is in charge of assisting you with planning your trip abroad.
What are the best types of jobs abroad?
The best types of jobs abroad depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for. Do you want to only work for room and board? WWOOFING is for you. Are you okay with working odd jobs here and there in order to fund your travels around the world? You can find short term and seasonal work on orchards, vineyards, and farms in countries like Australia and New Zealand. Or, if you want to start a permanent career abroad, nurses, program developers, software engineers, marketers, and teachers are needed all over the world.
Where to work abroad
Your options for working abroad will depend on your nationality. You’ll want to find the easiest countries to get a work visa for citizens of your home country, since the process of applying for work visas can be drawn out and complicated. For Americans, it’s exceptionally easy to get short term work visas in New Zealand, Australia, and Ireland. However, as previously mentioned, you can get sponsored for work visas almost anywhere as long as you have a valid job offer beforehand.
Why work abroad?
There are lots of reasons for working overseas ! Perhaps the earning potential is much higher in a country abroad than at home. Or maybe there are better job opportunities overseas in your chosen field. Or maybe, like so many of us, you just really want to be able to live abroad sustainably! Being able to work abroad means being able to travel and immerse in new cultures indefinitely—and that sounds like a dream come true to us.

I am passionate about programs that create opportunities for young adults. One of my favorites is volunteer opportunities because this is one of the best ways for young adults to gain valuable life experiences while making a difference in people’s lives and positively impacting the world.
This post will look at the benefits of volunteering abroad, the different types of volunteer programs available, and the top 20 picks for the best volunteer abroad programs for young adults.
Table of Contents
Why Volunteer Abroad As A Young Adult?
Volunteering abroad can provide several benefits beyond just travel and adventure. It allows individuals to gain hands-on experience in various fields, from healthcare to education to wildlife conservation. It also allows volunteers to immerse themselves in new cultures and make meaningful connections with local communities. Additionally, volunteering abroad can help individuals develop essential skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and adaptability.
The Benefits of Volunteering Abroad for Young Adults
Volunteering abroad offers numerous benefits for young adults, including:
Personal Growth and Development: Volunteering abroad allows young adults to try new things and develop experiences that can be later marketed to employers. This is because you get hands-on experience in a practical setting and develop new skills. You will learn how to communicate with people from different cultures, adapt to new environments, and work as part of a team.
Making a Positive Impact: By volunteering abroad, young adults get the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Whether you teach English, build homes, or work in a healthcare facility, you will make a difference in the lives of those individuals around you.
Cultural Immersion: Volunteering abroad allows you to experience a new culture and way of life. You will have the opportunity to learn about local customs and traditions, try new foods, and explore new places.
Networking Opportunities: Volunteering abroad can also provide valuable networking opportunities. You will meet people from all over the world and make connections that can benefit you in the future.
Types of Volunteer Programs Available
There are many different types of volunteer programs available for young adults. Some of the most popular options include:
- Tutoring: Tutoring, especially teaching English, is a popular volunteer option for young adults. Many countries are in need of tutors for various subjects and English teachers, and you can help provide this valuable skill to children and adults.
- Healthcare: Healthcare volunteer programs are another popular option. You can work in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities, providing care to those in need. You can also work with established volunteer teams, offering help directly to individuals in various communities.
- Conservation: Conservation volunteer programs allow you to help protect the environment and wildlife. You can work on reforestation, wildlife conservation, and marine conservation projects.
- Community Development: Community development volunteer programs focus on improving the lives of people in underserved communities. You can work on projects such as building homes, schools, and community centers.
Tips for Getting Started
If you are interested in volunteering abroad, here are some tips for getting started:
- Research Volunteer Programs: Many different volunteer programs are available, so it is important to research and find one that matches your interests and skills.
- Consider Your Budget: Volunteering abroad can be expensive, so it is important to consider your budget when selecting a program. Some programs offer scholarships or fundraising opportunities to help offset costs.
- Prepare for Culture Shock: Volunteering abroad can be a culture shock, so preparing yourself mentally and emotionally is important. Read up on the culture and customs of the country you will be visiting, and be prepared to adapt to new ways of life.
- Stay Safe: Safety should always be a top priority when volunteering abroad. Make sure to research the safety of the country and program you will be participating in, and follow all safety guidelines and protocols.
How to Choose the Right Volunteer Abroad Program
Choosing the right volunteer abroad program can be overwhelming, but there are a few key factors to consider.
- First, consider your interests and skills. What type of volunteer work are you most passionate about, and what skills can you bring to the table?
- Second, consider the location and culture. What countries or regions interest you most, and how comfortable are you with the local culture and language?
- Finally, consider the program’s reputation and support. What kind of training and support does the program offer, and what kind of impact have previous volunteers had in the community?

Traveling abroad is an adventure in itself, but when you add to that activities like rock climbing , skydiving , or rafting down class five rapids, you’re sure to have an experience that will stick out in your memory for years. You can choose to face these challenges alone (you brave soul, you!), or you can sign up for adventure travel programs for young adults , which means an instant community and instant fun.
Things to Keep in Mind When Visiting Top Adventure Travel Destinations
Before we get into the most baller destinations for adventure travel, here are a couple things to keep in mind when deciding on the best group travel program or activity for you:
Be smart about it.
When you’re traveling to a foreign country, it’s easy to throw caution to the wind and engage in activities that you would not do at home. While it’s fantastic to be spontaneous and open to new experiences abroad, it’s important to make sure you’re staying safe. I know, I know; I’m sure you’ve already heard this a million times from your Mom or Dad or over-protective aunt from Missouri, but they just have your best interests at heart.
It’s easy to feel invincible while you’re traveling overseas. You realize that the world isn’t a scary place looking to swallow you up, but rather a welcoming place that’s nowhere near as dangerous as the news back home would make it seem.
If you’ve been abroad for a while, you probably feel pretty confident in your ability to take care of yourself, you’re starting to get a feel for being alone in a foreign country, and you think you can take on the world. That’s awesome. Just don’t forget that you should take the same safety precautions abroad as you would at home. Think your scuba instructor is too hung-over for a safe dive? Skip it. Does that skydiving parachute look a little worn out? Run.
Foreign countries sometimes have less safety restrictions than back home, so go with your gut. If something’s telling you to skip an adventure activity, better safe than sorry.
Make sure it’s not exploiting anyone or anything.
The best part of traveling overseas is being able to experience things that you would never do at home. Being in a different country opens you up to new environments, cultures, animals, and food that are exotic and unique from anything you’ve experienced before. While it’s great to take advantage of these once in a lifetime opportunities, be aware of the impact it’s having on the local community. Riding an elephant may seem like a fantastic way to experience new cultures and connect with local animals, but elephant-riding is actually damaging to their backs and the animals are often treated inhumanely.

Do your research..
Ask tour operators lots of questions. That’s not to say that you should stay home while the rest of the travelers in your group go out and have awesome adventures. Just be aware of the impact on local human, animal, and environmental populations. As responsible tourism gains exposure, more and more adventure activities are becoming aware of their effect on the local community and finding ways to conserve and give back.
Read reviews of different small group adventure travel programs before you make a selection. Ask to speak with past participants, check their website to make sure they’re legit, and investigate their community partnerships.
Now that we’ve got those important public service announcements out of the way, on to the fun part!

Our fave places for group travel for young adults.
There are tons of destinations around the world that offer a variety of adventure activities, but finding a travel program for young adults that fits your thrill-level and personal interests is key. Here are some countries that offer experiences for every adrenaline level, from couch potato to stunt-men and women in training:
To the outside world Australia seems like one big, never-ending beach, and while there are gorgeous coastlines, Australia’s landscape is extremely diverse. This varied environment means there are plenty of different outdoor activities! Of course there’s the well-known Great Barrier Reef, a worldwide favorite for scuba diving , but Australia is home to a number of lesser-known (and cheaper!) adventure destinations too.

From wildlife parks like the Jirrahlinga Koala and Wildlife Sanctuary near Melbourne to wine tasting in the Yarra Valley (hey, that can be an adventure!) to rock climbing at the Blue Mountains near Sydney , there’s really something for every level of adrenaline junkie in Australia.
While Honduras may not be at the top of your bucket list, it’s worth a look if you’re interested in scuba diving. The Bay Islands off the Eastern coast are one of the cheapest places in the world to get your open water Scuba certification . If you’re more into the young backpacking scene, head to Utila , where backpackers come en masse for the cheap scuba, delicious seafood, and all-night parties.

If you’re looking for something quieter or heading to Honduras with the family, Roatan has beautiful resorts and lovely beaches. On days off from your scuba classes, you can catch a boat ride to nearby islands or, depending on the time of year, head out in search of whale sharks. If you’re really lucky, you’ll be able to enjoy a short swim with these gorgeous underwater giants. Be sure to investigate which dive shop offers the most responsible experience that focuses on protecting the whale sharks rather than exploiting them!
With such a dramatic, archaic landscape, it’s hard not to have an adventure in Iceland . Forget the same hum-drum tourist activities, Iceland offers some truly unique travel programs for young adults that you wouldn’t find in many other places in the world. Looking for something really epic? Try dogsledding through the Icelandic countryside (Yep, you heard that right. Dogsledding ). An experienced musher will lead your sled dog team through the gorgeous Golden circle to see Iceland’s pristine outdoor beauty. Again, whenever you’re participating in a tourist activity that involves animals, it’s crucial to do your research and choose an operator that prioritizes the welfare of the animal over tourism dollars.

If you’re more of a summertime person, just the name Iceland may have you running for your electric blanket. Surprisingly enough Iceland has plenty of warmer weather activities, like horseback riding , kayaking , and yes, even snorkeling . But, before you bust out your bikini, a wet-suit is recommended in Iceland, even in the summer.
If you need to warm up after your snow activities in Iceland, check out Costa Rica . The local government has done a fabulous job protecting their environmental resources, making it a perfect destination for group travelers interested in eco-tourism . Soar through the jungle like superman on one of the world’s longest zip lines or learn to surf in the waves at one of the country’s many beaches, it’s up to you. Hey, porque no los dos ? Do both!

For an equally thrilling experience, conquer your fear of heights in Cape Town by bungee jumping from Bloukrans Bridge, the world’s highest commercial bridge! Even the bravest adrenaline junkies will get sweaty palms looking down from the 216 meter drop. Just make sure to tell your parents about your death-defying experience after you make it back safe on the ground.
It’s no secret that Nepal had a rough year in 2015, and their tourism industry has definitely taken a hit. While the Nepalese people are still recovering from a terrible set of earthquakes , the tourism board has announced that they are ready for travelers to come visit their gorgeous country once again! Adventure-addicts will have no shortage of choices in Nepal. Hikers can book a group tour trekking through the foothills of the Himalayas, stay with local families in Nepali villages along the way, or take on the challenge of conquering Mount Everest.

Think you can’t afford to go on vacation? Think again.
A Wisconsin-based teacher and author with a passion for Spain, Abbey Algiers looks for inexpensive ways to take trips on her summer holidays. So when she discovered Diverbo , she couldn’t believe it. Diverbo offers free vacations for English speakers willing to spend a week mingling with foreigners in Spain or Germany to help them practice their language skills.
“It’s the best-kept secret on the planet,” she says.
Algiers spent a week chatting, enjoying Spanish tapas and wine and bonding with fellow travelers. The setting couldn’t have been more perfect: La Alberca, a tiny village four hours west of Madrid. The best part? Apart from paying for the flight there, the trip didn’t cost her a cent.

Algiers loved it so much, she has done Diverbo two more times and is currently traveling in Portugal with a friend she met on her first trip. "This is a legit way to make lifelong friends from around the world," she says.
Diverbo is part of a growing trend: companies that are giving new meaning to the phrase “business trip.” If you’re willing to do a little work while you’re on vacation, these companies will help you get most — if not all — of your travel costs covered. Some will even pay you a stipend or a salary. It’s a trend that is taking off, especially among young female travelers who are new to the workforce and looking for affordable vacation options or for millennial women in search of ways to give back while on vacation.

Practice English
Speak English? You’re in luck. Diverbo recruits English speakers to help foreigners in Spain and Germany practice their language skills. Even better: Diverbo prefers if you don’t speak Spanish or German. There’s not much downtime — you’ll spend most of the day "working" in small villages near Madrid, Munich, and Frankfurt. But it’s not a hardship: There are group dinners, parties, and even theater performances. There’s also an offshoot of Diverbo for teens.

Work On A Farm
Sue Coppard was a London secretary who volunteered on a farm with some friends back in 1971 and thought the idea was so great that she turned it into a business: WWOOF , which stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. The company has recently been rediscovered by a new generation of travelers that craves getting dirt under their fingernails. Here’s how it works: Farm owners post help-wanted ads on the site, and you can apply to do anything from sowing seeds to making cheese to gathering herbs. In return, the farm pays for your accommodations and food (you usually need to cover the flight). Volunteers typically work a few hours a day, then get time off to explore. There are opportunities everywhere from Costa Rica to Cambodia.

Are you willing to put in a little sweat equity on your next vacation in exchange for free meals and accommodations? The sharing economy has resulted in innovative resources for work-exchange programs. Workaway and HelpX connect travelers with locals around the globe looking for volunteer help. You could find yourself working for people like Alex and Allie , who own an eco-lodge in the Northern Thai mountains near Chiang Mai where they rescue elephants and support human rights. Or Pamela , who has a house in Provence and wants assistance gardening and cooking. Or there's Rick and Lindy , a couple who needs workers for their cattle farm in New Zealand. Generally, volunteers work four or five hours a day, five days a week, then have the rest of the time to themselves. It's a great way to affordably see a new place and live like a local.
Work In the Adventure Space
Want to spend a week or two skiing and snowboarding — and get paid to do it? The website AdventureWork lists jobs in the adventure space, some long-term postings but others for vacationers looking for a free trip. For instance, PGL hires ski reps at its resorts in France, Italy, Austria and the U.S. to accompany school groups. In exchange, PGL covers your room and food, in-resort expenses, lift passes, board hire and gives you a small stipend of $229 (£175).
Organize A Trip
Now here’s a sneaky way to get a free vacation: Plan a trip for a group of your friends or family. Many travel operators will cover your costs if you function as a trip leader. The rules change depending on the company, but as an example, YMT Vacations will give you a free vacation if you enlist 12 people to take a trip with them; if eight of the guests book their flight through YMT, your airfare is also covered. Other companies offering free trips to group leaders include Grand Circle Cruise Line , Select International Tours , All Abroad Travel and Merit Group Travel .
Host An Educational Trip
Are you a teacher who wants to take your students on a trip so that they can immerse themselves in what they’ve just studied? A number of educational travel companies provide free trips to teachers in order to get them to host trips for students. (Many will even throw in a free training trip beforehand, so that you can learn the ropes of hosting and guiding.) Some of the best outfitters include EF , CHA Educational Tours , and Explorica .
Heritage Greece invites young Greek adults to come "home" on a free trip. (Photo courtesy of ... [+] Shutterstock)
Explore Your Roots
Are you lucky enough to have roots somewhere else? Your home country might want you to come back and connect with your culture. For instance, the Hungarian Human Rights Foundation runs ReConnect Hungary to get young Hungarian-Americans ages 18-28 to take a two-week trip to learn about their history and traditions. The program covers airfare from New York to Budapest and two weeks of accommodations, meals, transportation, entertainment and programming. Countries with similar programs include Heritage Greece , aimed at accomplished college students of Greek heritage. Birthright Armenia reimburses expenses for Armenians ages 20-32 who will intern or volunteer for at least two months for a variety of organizations, including media outlets and NGOs. Love Boat Study Program is for people of Chinese or Taiwanese descent, ages 16-27. And Birthright Israel has helped over 500,000 Jewish young adults travel for free to Israel since the company was founded in 1999.
Take Your Nursing Skills On The Road
If you're a nurse, you can go mobile and travel for free to places like Florida or Hawaii — and get paid for it. The site TravelNursing.org offers opportunities around the country, with assignments lasting eight to 26 weeks. Compensation varies based on your skill level and the type of position you're filling, but a traveling nurse can make as much as $10,000 a month, with food and housing often covered.
Become A House Sitter
Are you open to taking care of someone's home – or even their pet — while on vacation? You might have a free place to stay for offering your services. Companies like Trusted Housesitters and HouseCarers connect travelers and people in need of sitters around the world.
Teach English
If you're willing to teach English as a foreign language to non-English speakers, you can pretty much write your ticket. Some of the best resources for job hunters include TEFL.com and ESL Cafe , which list salaried jobs across the planet in search of your skills (typically, you don't need to speak the home language). This isn't something you'd do for a week-long vacation: Postings generally range from nine months to two years. Still, it's a great way to have an extended (paid) vacation.

Sights of Elektrostal, Moscow region
Table of contents:, history of the city, park of culture and leisure, historical and art museum, october cultural center, kristall ice palace, memorial complex, museum and exhibition complex.
2024 Author : Harold Hamphrey | [email protected] . Last modified: 2023-12-17 10:06
In the Moscow region there is a small cozy town Elektrostal. Its sights for the most part have no historical value due to the fact that the city has a relatively small history. But for a visiting tourist or city dweller, they will be of interest. There is something to see, where to go to have an exciting leisure time.
Today the population of the city is 158 thousand people. Until the beginning of the 20th century there were several small workers' settlements here. After the opening of the electrometallurgical and equipment factories, the place began to be called the natural boundary of Calm. The construction of the railway made this settlement accessible, and workers and families flocked here to earn money. In 1925, the station was named Elektrostal, and the rapid increase in population allowed the village to receive the status of a city.
The founder of the city is a prominent Russian industrialist Nikolai Vtorov. It was he who opened the plant here, creating, in fact, a city-forming enterprise that is still operating. In Soviet times, it was a closed facility, and it was not easy to get to work here.
Today Elektrostal is a promising industrial city with a great future and a heroic past. It bears the proud name "City of Military and Labor Glory".
You can learn about the sights of Elektrostal with descriptions and photos here. There are places for walking, outdoor activities and cultural development.
Those who come to the city by train are met by a monument to the metallurgist. It was installed in November 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Elektrostal plant. The attraction is made in the style of constructivism. The monument quickly won the love of the townspeople, because this city is supported by ordinary workers.
Elektrost altsy and the founding father of the plant, Nikolai Vtorov, are honored. In 2002, a monument was opened in honor of him, which became a landmark of the city of Elektrostal. The bronze sculpture is installed on the site where once stood a monument to the leader of the world proletariat, V. I. Lenin. Times change, characters change. Today, the plant, founded a century ago, is the largest in Russia. Vtorov himself, whose fortune was estimated at 60 million rubles in gold, according to Forbes magazine, was the owner of the largest capital at the beginning of the century. He was a banker, an industrialist, an entrepreneur, a man of action.
The monument was erected byinitiative of the townspeople who wished to perpetuate the monument to the great man.
One of the popular places for spending weekends and evenings among citizens and guests of the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure. Here you can ride attractions for children and adults, play slot machines, rollerblade or bike. The park is divided into two zones. Fans of unhurried walks in the fresh air make a promenade on the Quiet Alley, and those who prefer outdoor activities flock to the Entertainment Alley. The park has a summer stage, where concerts and cafes are regularly held.
Until 1999, there was no central museum among the attractions of Elektrostal in the Moscow Region. The expositions were exhibited in schools, the house of culture, in factory museums. The city was closed, so there was no large influx of tourists and visitors. The appearance of the historical and art museum made it possible for residents and guests of the city to learn a lot of useful information about their native land, the formation of the production process, and the difficult years of the war. The exposition consists of paintings by local artists, historical artifacts, household items, documents, books and much more. The collection is updated regularly. It also hosts outdoor exhibitions, which are always popular with the townspeople.
One of the main attractions of Elektrostal, the photo of which is available to almost every resident or visitor, is the Main Alley. On herpassers-by like to stroll along shady paths, townspeople rest by the fountain after a hard shift at the plant. Flower beds are the decoration of the alley. In 2006, a flower festival was held here for the first time, which has become traditional. Each enterprise of the city and private individuals give residents a real composition of fresh flowers, which pleases with bright colors all summer long. A riot of colors, aromas and a flight of fantasy reigns here. Walking through the park, you can see Snow White with a basket, a bright well, a multi-tiered cake made from fresh flowers, hearts of lovers or a fabulous house. It is almost impossible not to take a photo against the background of these compositions.
There is a cultural center in the city. It hosts performances by local creative teams and visiting stars, performances and circus performances.
In 1971, the ice palace "Crystal" was opened in the city. Almost immediately, a children's and youth hockey team was organized, which gained sports fame. This is the home sports arena for the Elektrostal hockey team. Matches of different levels are held on the ice.
There are sections for children who go in for hockey or figure skating. Citizens come here with their families to cheer for their favorite team or go ice skating.
Elektrostal is a city with a heroic past. During the war years, more than 12 thousand citizens came to the recruiting station and went to the front to defend their homeland. Almost 4 thousand of them did not return from the battle. To these heroesdedicated to the memorial complex with the inextinguishable Eternal Flame, opened in 1968
But the electricians took part in the war in Afghanistan and Chechnya. By decision of the city authorities, their memory is also immortalized in the memorial complex.
It has become a good tradition for newlyweds to lay flowers at this monument.
In 1999, a museum and exhibition complex was opened in the city, where, in addition to the exhibition hall, there are numerous circles for children, classes for young people, and a creative workshop. Various festivals, exhibitions, city holidays and other events are held within the walls and on the territory of the complex, which attract many spectators.
Listing the sights of Elektrostal, it is impossible not to mention the temples. There are several of them in the city: the church of St. John of Kronstadt, St. Andrew's Church, the hospital church of St. Panteleimon. Another new church is being built. In appearance, the temples look ancient, monumental, in the Novgorod style. But they were all built at the end of the 20th century.
Let there be no ancient artifacts among the sights of Elektrostal. But on the other hand, all of them are connected with the history of the city, with everyday work and military exploits of ordinary residents.

Frequently asked questions
- The trick to having an amazing flight experience is to pack ahead. So, let’s start with the essentials: passport, official ID, cash and daily medications. Next, bring items that’ll help keep you entertained, like your laptop or a good book. It’s also smart to bring your chargers, a comfy neck pillow and a pair of earphones. And of course, be sure to toss in toiletries like a toothbrush, cleansing wipes and a clean T-shirt.
- While the list of banned items can differ between airlines, the general rule to follow is avoid carrying anything sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, pocket knives, spray paint and flares. Sporting equipment like hockey sticks, and objects that could harm passengers, such as pepper spray and firearms, aren’t allowed in the cabin either.
- The answer to a comfortable flight can be as simple as your choice of clothing. Prepare for changes in temperature by bringing layers. This will keep you nice and warm if the cabin starts to cool down. Shoes like stilettos, flip flops and lace-up boots are best left in your suitcase. Even though they may be your favorites, go for flat, closed-toed footwear like slip-ons. Your feet will thank you for it.
- A condition by the name of DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is a potential risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clotting due to inactivity and poor circulation. Walking up and down the aisle and doing leg and foot exercises in your seat is a great way to prevent this from happening. Wearing a good pair of compression tights or socks can also help.
- Your travel documents and ID will need to be presented to security personnel. Have them close by to avoid fumbling around for them.
- Your coat, belt, keys and other items in your pocket, like your earphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make your life easier by removing them before your turn.
- For just a few minutes, you’ll have to unplug from the digital world. Your phone, laptop and any other electronic devices also need to be sent through the scanner.
- Remove liquids and gels from your hand luggage. They often need to be sent through the X-ray machine separately. Each product should be no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and everything must fit inside a single quart-size (one liter), clear zip-lock bag.
- There’s a possibility that you’ll be required to take your shoes off for scanning, so wearing slip-on sneakers is always a clever idea.
- Airlines won’t allow any sharp objects in the cabin. If you need to bring these kinds of items, pack them safely in your checked luggage.

On Earth Day, Biden Spotlights Climate Investments to Contrast With Republicans

President Biden announced $7 billion in grants for solar power projects on Monday and tried to draw a contrast with Republicans who want to roll back his policies on climate change.
In remarks at Prince William Forest in Virginia, Mr. Biden said the money from his signature climate and energy law, the Inflation Reduction Act, would help provide solar power for hundreds of thousands of homes in disadvantaged communities.
“Despite the overwhelming devastation in red and blue states, there’s still those who deny climate is in crisis,” Mr. Biden said at the start of a week in which his top officials will fan out across the country to promote his environmental policy. “Our MAGA Republican friends don’t seem to think it’s a crisis.”
He also said the American Climate Corps, a new work force for people hoping to combat climate change, would create thousands of jobs for the next generation.
Mr. Biden’s Earth Day event comes as he tries to energize younger voters, many of whom are disillusioned with the 2024 candidates and infuriated over the administration’s handling of Israel’s war in Gaza.
On Monday, Mr. Biden tried to strike a middle ground when speaking about the turmoil on college campuses . Asked whether he condemned “the antisemitic protesters,” Mr. Biden said, “I condemn the antisemitic protests.” He added: “I also condemn those who don’t understand what’s going on with the Palestinians.”
Mr. Biden leads his Republican opponent, former President Donald J. Trump, among young voters, and many approve of his record on the environment when contrasted with Mr. Trump’s. Mr. Biden’s lead, however, is smaller than it was at this point during the 2020 election cycle, according to a Harvard Youth Poll released last week.
Another poll, from October , found that just 31 percent of voters younger than 30 were “satisfied” with Mr. Biden’s record on climate change.
Danielle Deiseroth, the executive director of Data for Progress, a left-leaning research firm, said Mr. Biden could use his efforts to combat climate change to bolster support among young voters.
“The bigger fear is not necessarily young voters turning out en masse for Trump. It’s them staying home,” Ms. Deiseroth said. “That’s where the climate stuff does come into play, to sort of energize and also to scare young people to coming out to vote.”
Mr. Biden has faced a messaging problem when it comes to the Inflation Reduction Act, his most consequential climate policy to date. The legislation contained hundreds of billions of dollars in tax credits to help companies switch to low-carbon electricity sources like wind, solar and nuclear power. It also included billions in incentives for people to buy electric vehicles and electric heat pumps for their homes.
The law, signed in 2022, is already having ripple effects: Across the country, businesses have announced plans for more than 150 factories that would build electric vehicles, batteries, solar panels and wind turbines. Sales of electric cars and installations of large-scale solar power plants both hit record highs last year.
Yet polls suggest that few Americans seem to know about the law.
One potential problem is that many of the climate law’s outcomes are not yet fully visible. While companies have announced more than $100 billion in new manufacturing investments in states like Arizona, Georgia and Michigan, many of those factories are not yet up and running.
Some environmentalists have sought to publicize the law’s effects. Climate Power, a liberal advocacy group, plans to spend $80 million on election-year advertising to contrast Mr. Biden’s legislative accomplishments with the actions of Mr. Trump, who has mocked climate science and has vowed to roll back programs to promote clean energy.
Other climate activists have sharply criticized Mr. Biden for not doing enough to curtail fossil fuel drilling in the United States. U.S. oil and gas production soared to record highs last year. Many activists have focused anger on Mr. Biden’s approval of Willow , an $8 billion oil drilling project on pristine federal land in Alaska, and on federal approval of a natural gas pipeline from West Virginia to Virginia that has been opposed by environmentalists.
“President Biden has taken historic action on climate change and done more than any president in history to combat the climate crisis, but that bar is unfortunately quite low,” said Stevie O’Hanlon, the communications director for the Sunrise Movement, a group of young climate activists. “If Joe Biden wants to be seen as a climate president by young voters, he needs to decisively take action to end the fossil fuel era.”
In recent months, Mr. Biden has taken a series of steps to try to slow down domestic fossil fuel production. In January, the administration said it would pause the approval of new terminals that export liquefied natural gas in order to study the issue further. This month, the Interior Department said it would ban oil drilling across nearly 13 million acres in Alaska’s North Slope.
