Hiking & backpacking tours

Two people hiking in the Appalachian Mountains

When it comes to immersing yourself in the great outdoors, nothing beats camping in the wilderness beneath a sky full of stars

Have all the fun of an adventurous outdoor experience without any of the organizational hassle by embarking on a hiking backpacking trip through some of the  USA’s most captivating landscapes  – the Intrepid way. Take in the sights of national treasures like  Zion National Park , Joshua Tree National Park, and Olympic National Park during the day, and at night, help your guide set up camp, swap stories with your fellow travelers, and let the sounds of Mother Nature slowly sing you to sleep. Simply put, unforgettable doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Our backpacking trips are all about switching off and getting back to basics. Say goodbye to running water, and hello to cathole toilets! Carrying a backpack loaded with camping gear, personal items and group supplies, you’ll hike through untamed backcountry and set up a new camp each day with your group. Two words: pack light.

Our base camp trips are perfect if you don’t want to lug a backpack around, or if you'd prefer to camp with a few extra creature comforts. After enjoying daily hikes on front country trails, you’ll return to the same campsite each day equipped with proper toilets, showers, bigger tents and a camp kitchen.

If you’re an adventurous type who also likes sleeping on a real mattress (we don't blame you), our hut-to-hut trips could be for you. You’ll still need to carry your backpack as you hike through the backcountry, but you’ll stay in huts each night that range from basic bunkhouses to comfortable motels depending on the trip.

Let's create an exclusive trip for your group.

Leave the busy roads and noisy sounds of everyday life behind as you embark on an adventure through one of the  USA’s  most beloved parks. Brimming with epic natural features,  Yellowstone National Park  boasts landscapes that need to be seen to be believed and luckily for you, you’ll get to see them all on  hikes during the day  before resting your body and camping out under the stars every night.

If you’re searching for remarkable sights that’ll give your camera its hardest workout yet, then search no longer –  Yosemite National Park’s  North Rim offers all that and so much more. Perfect for both outdoor enthusiasts and hardcore hikers, this trail boasts giant waterfalls, majestic peaks, and flower-filled meadows you’re bound to ooh and ahh over. And at night, set up camp, enjoy a hearty meal, and fall asleep under the night sky’s twinkling stars.

Picture this: you wake up to the peaceful sounds of Mother Nature and have your morning coffee surrounded by spring-fed creeks, huge canyons and colorful cliffs. Spend six days hiking in  Utah ’s most iconic national parks and watch these otherworldly landscapes come alive. Trek through Bryce Canyon’s awe-inspiring “hoodoos” and natural amphitheaters, wade through the rushing waters of Zion’s slot canyons, and explore the labyrinth of potholes, arches, and grottos in the dreamy Escalante.

Explore one of the most beautiful sections of the Appalachian Trail on a three-day backcountry adventure through the Blue Ridge Mountains. You’ll journey deep into the wilderness of the Cradle of Forestry, wind through postcard-perfect grassy meadows and witness the cascades of Looking Glass Falls – maybe jumping in for a swim to cool down. The best part? You’ll camp on the summit of the spectacular Shining Rock and enjoy lunch on huge ledges overlooking the rolling plains of Ivestor Gap.

Hiking and Camping in Utah

What's the range of backpacking and hiking trips available?

We offer a wide range of all-inclusive backpacking and hiking tours in some of the USA's best national parks and scenic trails. Apart from getting yourself to the meeting point and bringing your personal items, everything is organised and provided for you including an expert hiking guide, permits and fees, meals, and most camping and hiking gear. Our trips range from base camp tours that include easy to moderate day hikes on front country trails to multi-day backpacking or hut-to-hut adventures in high mountains and backcountry routes.

What do I have to carry when we hike?

On our backpacking and hut-to-hut tours you'll need to carry a backpack that weighs between 25-45 lbs (11-20 kg) depending on the itinerary and season. It'll be loaded will be with your personal items (clothing, camera, toiletries, water bladder, etc), camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, etc), and a portion of the group's food supplies or camping gear. Base camp tours are a bit different – we'll return to the same campsite each day so you can leave your main bag at camp. You'll still need a small daypack to carry your water bottle, snacks, camera and any other essential items while we're out hiking.

Should I bring/pack anything special?

We'll provide you with camping gear including a daypack, trekking poles, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad and pillow. Essentials you'll need to bring from home include a three-litre water bladder or bottle, hiking clothes and boots, headlamp, toiletries and medication, camera and any other personal items you might need. Just remember, it's no fun lugging a really heavy bag around so try to pack as light as possible.

How fit do I need to be to join?

While our range of backpacking and hiking trips differ in difficulty, it is recommended that you have a reasonable level of fitness so that the tour's enjoyable and you can get the most out of your holiday. To do this, try participating in some form of physical activity (such as long walks, running, cycling, etc) at least six weeks out from your trip. It's also a good idea to do some shorter test hikes with a backpack or something similar so you can become comfortable carrying your gear when the trip comes.

To help you choose the trip with the right level of difficulty, our team will forward an assessment form to you at the time of booking, and we will be open to discussing your choice and making suggestions if need be. You won't be confirmed for the trip until your form has been received and reviewed.

What sort of safety precautions are taken?

We value the safety of our customers, staff and fellow travellers very highly so you can rest assured that you'll be safe throughout the duration of your trip. Our leaders are well-trained and experienced (as well as insured) and don't cut corners when it comes to the wellbeing and safety of others. This means we only take well-researched trails and listen to all safety warnings when it comes to changing weather conditions.

Do I need special insurance for backpacking trips?

The short answer is no and yes - you won't need any extra insurance to cover any additional or technical activities that come with a backpacking and hiking trip but you will need to have an insurance policy that covers activities such as hiking and trekking. To make sure you're appropriately covered, we recommend presenting your insurer with the trip's itinerary.

Are backpacking and hiking trips accessible?

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely  accessible , regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travellers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

9 Best Travel Companies for Walking Tours and Hiking Tours in 2024

Enjoy some of the world's most beautiful landscapes at the speed of your own two feet..

Beth Luberecki

Review: EF Go Ahead’s Food & Wine: Piedmont & Tuscany with America’s Test Kitchen

There’s something extra special about seeing someplace on foot the way you do on a walking tour, hiking tour, or guided trek. Maybe it’s the slower pace and the ability to actually admire sights you might just zip by in a car, bus, or train. Maybe it’s the easy opportunity for connections and conversations with local people. Or maybe it’s being out in the fresh air, enjoying and appreciating the natural setting of the location you’re visiting.

It’s probably some combination of all three that make walking tours, trekking tours, and hiking tours a popular way to travel. Whether you prefer an easygoing amble, a moderate hike, or a challenging summit, there are some great foot-fueled tours from hiking tour companies that explore famous locales and off-the-beaten-path spots all over the world. Here are my picks for the nine best travel companies offering walking tours and guided hiking trips.

HIKING TOURS IN THE USA

While ryder-walker focuses on exploring the absolute best alpine experiences that international travel has to offer, we would be remiss not to also offer what we consider to be the best of the magical hiking in the united states, all of which happens to be in our company’s backyard in the desert southwest. whether exploring the soaring peaks of colorado or the mysterious canyons and desert vistas of arizona, utah and new mexico, you get the chance to experience some of our country’s most sublime and untouched wilderness.  .

Ryder-Walker’s guided Rocky Mountain High Life: Aspen to Telluride trek adventures high into the mountains of Colorado. 13,000 feet high! The home of Ryder-Walker’s office, these mountains have been close to our company for decades and offer hiking that rivals the best the Alps have to offer. The Colorado Rockies are a stunning mountain range with craggy peaks that rise above 14,000 feet, bohemian towns tucked into the mountains such as Crested Butte and Telluride , and high alpine lakes which are a truly brilliant blue. Our journey begins in Aspen, perhaps the most famous of Colorado destinations, as we explore beneath the brooding faces of the Maroon Bell mountains and enjoy the lively village at Aspen. From Aspen, we continue to Crested Butte, a mountain town centered around The Butte, a lone mountain that rises from the Colorado plains. To this day Crested Butte is Colorado’s best-kept secret . Finally, we journey to Telluride, the home of Ryder-Walker!

For self guided hikers that want to explore the vibrant mountains of Colorado we recommend our Telluride: The Switzerland of America hike. This route focuses on the area surrounding Telluride Colorado, unambiguously the most dramatic and wild section of the Colorado wilderness, and the home to Ryder-Walker and many of its guides. Visitors to this magnificent region will get to experience the same beauty and western charm that have kept us in the region for decades!

Ryder-Walker’s trips through the desert southwest of America are some of our company’s in-house favorites, and explore the region where many of the guides spend their own vacation time! In both New Mexico and Utah we travel to all of our favorite locations in the desert. Whether they are hidden local haunts or world-class hiking destinations like Moab , the mystery and charm of the desert southwest are guaranteed to provide a profound experience – especially for those new to the stunning region. The southwest still hides many secrets, including ancient trails that lead to Anasazi cliff dwellings and hidden waterfall canyons

New Mexico: Santa Fe to Taos , which we also offer as a self guided hike, travels between the desert and the mountains in New Mexico. You get to enjoy the unique experience of leaving the desert trading city of Santa-Fe and wander upwards as the climate dramatically changes from rolling hills to the high mountains surrounding Taos. Santa Fe is a reason to visit New Mexico in itself, boasting world-class restaurants , art-crawls , and outdoor markets , Santa Fe truly feels like a gem of the wild west!

Sedona, Arches, & Canyonlands is our true desert trek that explores the heart of Utah’s national parks, including Arches, Canyonlands, and Bears Ears National Monument. Arches is an incredible testament to natural beauty with its twisting sandstone formations . Canyonlands include hundreds of miles of wandering canyons some of which are still only rarely explored. Finally, The Bears Ears National Monument is the United States’ youngest National Monument, which has been protected to preserve the historic remnants of the Anasazi people which are hidden deep within the ultra-remote desert that Bears Ears encompasses.   Every step in this alien landscape provides another surprise or delight. There is nowhere else on earth quite like Utah, and we strongly believe that it is important for every person to experience this truly different section of the US at least once in their life.

Thinking about joining Timberline on a guided hiking tour ? Here’s what you need to know.

First, let’s talk accommodations . All of our hiking tours are inn-to-inn, meaning you’ll be spending nights at magnificent national park lodges or inns distinct to the area. The benefit of day hiking is that guests can carry light packs with just the day’s supplies: extra clothes, food and water. On the other hand, w hen we’re lucky enough to overnight at a backcountry lodge, guests will need to carry a bit more.

Secondly, its important to note hiking difficulty. Our daily distances range from 4-16 miles. The hallmark of our hiking tours is embracing challenging terrain; however, we do offer tours for a range of abilities. Our moderate tours average 6-7 miles per day, energetic tours average 8-12 miles a day, and the most challenging tours include at least one day of high mileage and strenuous terrain. This being said, occasionally tours will have an alternate activity day with no hiking.

isle royale hiking foggy group

In regards to pace, guests are encouraged to hike at their own speed with no concern for keeping up with others. This being said, we keep the mood leisurely and low key. After all, it’s a vacation!

Lastly, two Timberline leaders hike with each group. They’ll keep everyone on track, provide assistance, and share their knowledge about the local scenery.

Each of our hikes has been expertly crafted to ensure you have the trip of a lifetime.

  • A hiking-focused itinerary: Every day will feature hiking as the main activity. You may have opportunities to explore cities, towns, and archaeological sites that you come across or do any number of side activities, but hiking really is the focus of these trips.
  • Camping opportunities:  Our trek tours offer a mix of lodges and camps along the way, but we promise that even the camps along the trail are very comfortable.
  • Excellent guides: A guide is the core of a trek, and a good guide can make all the difference. That's why we make sure that the guides our tour operators feature are expert hikers, prepared to help with anything that might happen along the way, and also among the most knowledgeable so that you gain knowledge and deeper appreciation of the magical destinations that you're hiking!
  • Classic treks: From Machu Picchu in the Inca's Sacred Valley to Africa's untamed Mt. Kilimanjaro to the Great Wall, we have trekking adventure tours in all corners of the world to let you experience the renowned natural and human wonders of the world.
  • Lesser-known trails: We've also worked with our operators to offer expeditions that visit the lesser-known routes of popular destinations.

Hiking the Inca Trail

Patagonia lowdown: low elevation south america treks.

  • Travel light. It may not feel like anything now, but you’ll feel the weight of every extra gram a few hours into your climb. Bring only the essentials.
  • Train. If you’re a beginner, training can be as simple as gentle walks, quick runs, and even easy hikes. Perhaps take the stairs at work? The key is getting the body used to a little exertion.
  • Wear the right shoes. Trust us, shoes can make or break the experience of a great trek. Some like hiking boots, while others prefer trekking trainers that are light and quick-drying. Try a couple at the store to see which one’s more comfortable to you. And remember, break it in before your trek!
  • Track the weather. Always check the forecast before hitting the trail. In fact, check the weather repeatedly , including a few hours before your trek.
  • Pace yourself. This isn’t a race, so resist the temptation to power forward with everything you’ve got, especially in the beginning. Find a slow but steady pace to make sure you have enough energy to make the final ascent.
  • Layering: Stay warm and gear up with a base layer (moisture-wicking underwear), a mid-layer (insulation), and an outer layer (shell protection from wind and rain).
  • Protect your skin: Make sure every part of your body is covered, including your hands, feet, ears, nose, and cheeks. Goggles can help protect your eyes from the harsh wind and potential rain.
  • Hand and toe warmers: Pack warm packets for extra heat in your extremities on trekking adventures.
  • Fuel up: You may feel less hungry or thirsty when it’s cold, but eating and drinking are just as important. Pack snacks that don’t freeze easily, like chocolate and nuts.
  • Stay alert for cold-weather injuries like frostbite and hypothermia. Know the signs, like coldness, tingling, and pain for frostbite or shivering and mental deterioration for hypothermia.

Trekking 85 Miles With Grandpa, Scuba Diving With Grandma

With older adults staying fit longer, many are joining their grandchildren on travel adventures like wilderness hikes, bike tours and even bungee jumping.

A grandfather in a blue button-up shirt and a beige baseball cap stands next to his granddaughter, who is wearing a pink shirt and has long, wavy blond hair that is blowing in the wind. She is holding a map with a red line marked on it, and there is a lake with boats on it in the background.

By Julie Weed

Rick Rhoads, 80, was “training like crazy” last spring, walking six miles a day — “all hills” — to get ready for his summer vacation. Mr. Rhoads, of Orcas Island, Wash., and Lucy Erent, his 15-year-old granddaughter, who lives in Prague, were planning to trek 85 miles in eight days along Scotland’s West Highland Way .

The route, which passes through farmland and forest and runs along Loch Lomond into the Scottish Highlands , traverses a range of terrains, including steep inclines and rocky trails. A trip organizer was set to manage lodging and transport the luggage each day.

Mr. Rhoads wasn’t daunted by the distance, or by the age difference. He said he was looking forward to continuing discussions the pair has had on video calls, on topics as varied as stage drama, cosplay, pandemics and family dynamics. “I’ll get her to do the talking when we’re going up hills,” he joked.

When they finally did the trek, in early July, there were a few wrinkles: The hiking was tougher than expected, and one of Mr. Rhoads’s boots began to fall apart near the end — nothing some duct tape couldn’t fix. Overall, Mr. Rhoads said, the adventure was challenging, but he was eager to do another, perhaps a route “that passed by cafes.”

Sixty may or may not be the new 40, but it’s clear that many older adults are enjoying longer “ healthspans ” — the time they are active, fit and healthy. This shift is adding a new dimension to traditional grandparent-grandchild vacations: adventure. Think bike trips instead of cruise ships, wilderness treks instead of bus tours.

According to the World Health Organization , healthy life expectancy, defined as “the average number of years a person can expect to live in full health” without disabling illnesses or injuries, rose globally to 63.7 in 2019 from 58.3 in 2000. In the United States, 40 percent of people 65 and older interviewed last year in an Outdoor Foundation study said they engaged in outdoor activities like hiking or biking. Older adults are also now more likely to be able to afford vacations: Americans 55 and over control nearly 70 percent of U.S. household wealth, compared with about 50 percent in 1989 .

Travel companies are taking notice. Craft Travel , a luxury trip planner that handles about 150 itineraries per year, has seen a big increase in grandparent-grandchild travel over the past five years, said Julia Carter, its founder, adding that “the trend has definitely been toward more adventurous, or bucket-list-type, experiences” — African safaris, hikes in Patagonia and trips to Antarctica.

Tour companies and activity providers, which generally don’t impose age caps on their offerings (though some do have minimum age requirements), are making accommodations for the new demographic. Some examples:

The Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort in Savusavu, Fiji, which offers snorkel and scuba outings, has had grandchildren with grandparents as old as 84 learn to scuba dive together. For guests older than 70, along with the standard safety training, the resort provides a doctor to certify the diver’s health.

Road Scholar , a travel company that was founded to serve older adults and now has an online catalog dedicated to grandparent-grandchild travel, details the physical expectations of its trips so participants can decide if they can handle them. The description of its white-water rafting trip on the Lower Salmon River in Idaho, for example, tells travelers they’ll be “carrying bags in camp across uneven terrain. Temperatures often in the 90+ degree range.”

Backroads , which offers multigenerational biking, hiking, snorkeling and kayaking trips, sends training advice in advance of departure. Like many other bicycle trip organizers, Backroads makes e-bikes available, with a typical minimum age set in the midteens. Some grandparents use the e-bikes to keep up with their grandchildren, but depending on everyone’s fitness level, it may be the younger generation using them, said Liz Einbinder, a Backroads spokeswoman.

Some older adults are embarking on more extreme adventures. Nick Steers, the executive director of Great Canadian Bungee , which hosts more than 10,000 guests per year in Chelsea, Quebec, for bungee jumping, zip lining and rafting, said nearly 5 percent of its participants were 60 or older, including some grandparents there with their families. Ron Jones, the founder of Bungee America , outside Los Angeles, said that in July, a 15-year-old had jumped with his grandparents.

Active grandparents have some tips for others considering an adventure vacation with their grandchildren.

“Preparation for any trip is key,” said Joe Bassett, 60, who runs the guided wilderness adventure company Valiant Outfitters . He takes his grandchildren, the oldest of whom is 7, on hikes and overnight stays. For a camp-out he said, grandparents might walk the trail in advance to make sure they know its contours. “An ideal route would be a loop that is never more than a couple miles from the parking lot,” he said. Mr. Bassett advises no-cook meals. “Keep it simple with familiar foods,” he said.

Harriet Vogel, 84, of Palm City, Fla., also has some advice: Choose activities you both enjoy and then “have hopes rather than expectations, and just let the trip happen,” she said. When she was 79, Ms. Vogel celebrated her grandson Matthew’s college graduation by snorkeling, paddle boarding and biking with him in the Caribbean nation of St. Kitts and Nevis, all mutual interests. Last year it was her granddaughter Jessie’s turn, and the two went on a walking and hiking trip in Switzerland, organized by Backroads. Ms. Vogel is currently planning a fall trip with another grandchild. The time together “increases our closeness,” she said.

While many grandparents may be ready to go on adventures with their grandchildren, not all of them are eager to deal with technology to do so.

When Fin Expeditions, in Cocoa Beach, Fla., noticed an increase in multigenerational groups going out on its kayaking tours, management made sure to offer reservations over the phone for those who don’t like dealing with websites.

But that kind of help wasn’t necessary for Fran Doran, 79, of Butte, Mont., who took her granddaughter scuba diving in Thailand this summer as a graduation gift. “I organized it and made all the reservations online,” Ms. Doran said. The pair also rode in a bamboo boat and waded with elephants in a river. “It’s fun to research,” she said.

Minnesota Man Starts Cat Tour in His Historic Neighborhood as a Joke. Now, Hundreds Show Up Every Year (Exclusive)

The latest event brought out over 500 cat lovers

John Edwards/Wedge Live

  • In 2017, John Edwards came up with the idea of a walking tour celebrating the cats that live in a historic area of Minneapolis
  • The cat tour has exploded into a beloved local event with hundreds of attendees each year
  • Edwards tells PEOPLE how the joke has turned into a true community experience

Minneapolis residents have sparked a tradition that's gaining attention around the country.

John Edwards, the organizer behind the Minnesota Cat Tour that takes place each June, started #CatsOfTheWedge in 2017, an idea born from his sense of humor and penchant for posting cat photos on Twitter.

"When I walk around — I walk a lot for transportation — it's in a densely populated neighborhood with a lot of apartment buildings. It's also a neighborhood that has a lot of historic buildings and architecture, homes that were built in the 1890s or earlier. So there are the historic home tours and as a way to poke fun at that, I thought, 'Why don't we have a cat tour?' " he tells PEOPLE.

The idea "started small" as "Something where people walk around the neighborhood and check out the cats that are always in the windows."

"It stayed small, just like 20 people or so, for the first couple of years. None of the cats were pre-registered. It was just whoever happened to be in the window. I didn't realize it could be something big until 2019," Edwards shares.

Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

That year, the event grew into "the first really big one, where hundreds of people showed up."

"This built momentum. People saw all the cats in the windows and a lot of people started posting to social media about it. We made it on the local morning show and there were a bunch of local articles written about it. Since then, it's gained momentum into what it is today."

Edwards says that the turnout year after year has been "surprising" for him, with over 500 people coming out to visit 20 stops in June 2024.

"I'm always surprised by how many people come and have a really good time. Even though it started out as a joke, it's also really sincerely a good time. People enjoy themselves," he says.

"I don't think it's just about the path. It's about gathering together in a large group of people and being together in the outdoors. There's something magical about taking a walk together as a group in the streets of the neighborhood."

Edwards also says it serves a good purpose for the locals.

"It's a good way to highlight the condition of our streets," he shares. "You get people out walking in the neighborhood and they take notice. We have used it, especially this year, as a way to highlight the street reconstruction that's happening nearby. If you enjoy getting outside and walking the neighborhood, your local government taking action to make your street safer and the traffic slower is totally important, too."

Since the idea has gone viral in recent years, Edwards says that other places have reached out, inspired and interested in starting cat tours of their own.

"I've heard of multiple other places that are interested in doing this. I've gotten messages on social media and by email asking for advice about how to put them together," he says.

"I do think soon we're going to start seeing them in other parts of the country. I hope none of them steal Minneapolis' glory. After all, it's the place where it all started."

Work on the Wedge LIVE Cat Tour 2025 is already underway, with dates set and a grand marshall named. Cats can also be registered for the tour at this time.

"At this point, I'm not worried about the people showing up because the people turn out every time. We do get a little nervous about whether the cats will come out ," Edwards admits. "Will I have enough registration? Will there be enough cats? It's a lot of people to have to disappoint if they don't but so far it hasn't happened. We've grown every year."

Kumail nanjiani to do stand-up for the 1st time in 10 years. get tickets.

Kumail Nanjiani poses on the red carpet.

All stand-up comics turned megastars have an itch to return to their roots.

To wit, Adam Sandler repeatedly extended his nationwide arena trek in early 2024, Ellen Degeneres toured for the first time in years this summer and Steve Martin and Martin Short are currently back at it on their ongoing ‘Dukes of Funnytown Tour.’

Now, we can add clever comic turned “Silicon Valley” character actor turned “Big Sick” leading man turned jacked Marvel superstar Kumail Nanjiani to that list.

From September through December, the 46-year-old “Welcome To Chippendales” star will tour all over North America on his first stand-up tour in a decade, which he’s dubbed the ‘Doing This Again Tour.’

And, while he doesn’t currently have any NYC gigs lined up — Nanjiani cut his teeth in the Big Apple in the late aughts —he will get close when he performs at Philadelphia’s The Fillmore on Saturday, Sept. 21.

“Check out my first hour of standup comedy in a decade,” Nanjiani shared on Instagram . “Say hi but don’t say that during the show. That’s considered heckling and it’s punishable by death.”

If you want to see the funnyman live, tickets are available for all 15 ‘Doing This Again Tour’ shows.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on tickets was $43 before fees on Vivid Seats.

To find how much tickets cost to see Kumail at the show closest to you, we have everything you need to know and more about the ‘Doing This Again Tour’ below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Kumail Nanjiani tour schedule 2024

A complete calendar including tour dates, venues and links to the cheapest tickets available can be found here:

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and, if it isn’t noted, will include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Kumail Nanjiani stand-up specials

Based on our findings, Nanjiani only put out one special, “Beta Male,” in 2013.

You can stream the hour on Amazon here .

Upcoming Kumail Nanjiani projects

On top of the tour, Kumail fans can catch him in a number of movies and TV shows these next few months, per IMDb. Here’s what’s coming up next for the comic actor:

“Poker Face,” the Natasha Lyonne detective series on Peacock, will see Nanjiani join the cast in Season Two for a single episode. Other guest stars include Giancarlo Esposito, Katie Homes and Gaby Hoffman.

“Only Murders In The Building” returns for its fourth mysterious season on Hulu on Aug. 27. Nanjiani joins Steve Martin, Martin Short and Meryl Streep’s stacked ensemble alongside fellow newbies Zach Galifianakis, Eugene Levy, Molly Shannon, Eva Longoria and Richard Kind.

“Thread: An Insidious Tale” stars Nanjiana and Mandy Moore as a couple that resorts to a spell to travel back in time, hoping to prevent their daughter’s tragic death.

“Ella McCay” follows an idealistic young politician who juggles familial issues and a challenging work life while preparing to take over the job of her mentor, the state’s longtime incumbent governor. Jamie Lee Curtis, Ayo Edebiri, Woody Harrelson, Rebecca Hall and Albert Brooks co-star.

“A Guy Walks Into a Bar” observes a mild-mannered new father who strikes up a friendship with a charismatic but enigmatic man at a bar and soon suspects that he is keeping a secret that is unsettling. Sam Rockwell is the only other announced cast member at the time of publication.

Stand-up comedians on tour in 2024

If Kumail isn’t headed to a venue near you these next few months, there’s no need to worry.

Here are seven (!) huge acts that might be headed to you in the near future.

•  Marc Maron

•  Seth Meyers with John Oliver

• Jerry Seinfeld

• Mike Birbiglia

Emma Norsgaard Joins ‘Dream Team’ Lidl-Trek

trekking tour

Tour de France Femmes stage winner signs three-year contract with American Team

Lidl-Trek is thrilled to announce the signing of 25-year-old Danish talent, Emma Norsgaard, to its women’s team roster through 2027. Norsgaard, an all-rounder known for her versatility and sprint, becomes the third major addition to Lidl-Trek’s 2025 women’s roster.

Norsgaard burst onto the scene in 2016, when at just 16 years old she claimed the Danish elite national road race title, signaling the start of a promising career. Since then, she has racked up an impressive 15 career victories across a variety of terrains, including a commanding bunch sprint win at the Giro d’Italia, victory in Le Samyn, and a daring long-range breakaway at the 2023 Tour de France Femmes.

Although she initially made her mark as a sprinter, Norsgaard has evolved into a polyvalent rider capable of excelling across diverse terrains. Her versatility was on full display with her Tour de France Femmes stage win – a victory she considers her crowning achievement to date. Now, Norsgaard sees herself as a classics specialist with a quick finishing kick and dreams of one day winning the prestigious Tour of Flanders.

Commenting on her move to Lidl-Trek, Emma Norsgaard said, “This team has always been a dream team for me, and I really had the feeling that they have confidence in me and believe so much in me. I am so proud to become part of one of the absolute best teams in the world. I already started dreaming about the upcoming season after my first meeting with Trek. I am really looking forward to become a better cyclist and make a plan to reach my dreams together with my new teammates. I am hoping to be the best version of myself and the best possible teammate.”

Lidl-Trek General Manager, Luca Guercilena, expressed his enthusiasm for Norsgaard’s arrival, stating, “Emma is a phenomenal talent with a wide range of skills. Our Team is well-known for its aggressive racing style, and I believe Emma will align perfectly with this. Her Tour de France stage win epitomized this attacking, never-say-die attitude.

Even though Emma has been racing at the highest level for several years already, she is still a young rider. We believe she has the potential to become one of the top riders in the classics, and we’re excited to support her development over the next few years. She’s a rider who knows how to win in different scenarios, and we’re confident she’ll be a key asset to Lidl-Trek.”

Lidl-Trek looks forward to supporting Norsgaard in the next stage of her career, helping her pursue her goals while strengthening the Team’s performance at the toughest races. With her talent and ambition, she is poised to be a key figure for Lidl-Trek in the years to come.

Skokie’s Backlot Bash gets dose of history, Charlie Chaplin lore

‘we are dedicated to sharing skokie’s history’.

On the right side, from left to right, Museum Manager Emily England of the Skokie Heritage Museum and Stephanie Guthrie, museum coordinator for the Skokie Heritage Museum, lead a history tour as part of Skokie's Backlot Bash festival on Aug. 25, 2024 in downtown Skokie. (Karie Angell Luc/Pioneer Press)

The one-hour tour, featuring a half-mile walk, began at the Skokie Heritage Museum  at 8031 Floral Ave. and ended at Skokie Village Hall on Oakton Street along the event premises of Skokie’s Backlot Bash.

Sunday’s tour featured two guides, Museum Manager Emily England of Skokie and of the Skokie Heritage Museum and Stephanie Guthrie of Highland Park, the museum’s coordinator.

“It’s one of our shorter walks,” Guthrie said of the new highlights tour.

Of participants, “We have people who have just moved here a lot of the time who want to learn more about their community,” Guthrie said.“We also have people who have lived here their entire lives.”

England said, “We offer a handful of walking tours and since the museum is part of the Skokie Park District, we really want to offer more of them throughout Skokie because here we’re very downtown focused because this is where Skokie started, but Skokie has since expanded, and we want to tell more of the stories across the town.

“And as part of the park district, we want to promote people getting active, so walking tours are just a really good way to marry the park district’s activity focus and getting people out there and doing things, and then the history is educational,” England added.

Three people participated in Sunday’s tour, including Maddy Clowse of Chicago’s  Buena Park neighborhood and Yudit Krupinski of Skokie.

“I’ve lived here my whole life so I want to learn something I didn’t know,” Krupinski said.

Clowse said, “I just moved to Chicago and I’m a city planner and I’m just trying to get to know more places around Chicago.”

At the beginning of the tour, participants were told what the word “Skokie” means.

The Potawatami word “wabskoki” means swamp or marshland.

After checking out of the 1847 log cabin (behind the firehouse museum) built by the Meyer family, who were of European descent and had 11 children), the tour took the walkers down Floral Avenue where greenhouses used to be.

Then it was a turn onto Brown Street, which has a tilted white frame building that could be coined as a literal “lean to.” The building leans because it wasn’t set properly, England said, on its foundation after the structure was rolled from a nearby corner in the early 1900s.

Then it was on to Lincoln Avenue where tour members heard about churches, the funeral home and the funeral home’s historic restored house next door. Lincoln Avenue has a storied history of social establishments.

“There’s a longtime saying that, ‘Skokie drinks Evanston’s water and Evanston drinks Skokie’s booze,’ because they (Evanston) were dry until the 70s,” England said with a smile.

Add to that, “Skokie used to look like the Wild West,” England said on Lincoln Avenue across from the Skokie theater building, built in 1915. The rugged look of Skokie was among reasons why Hollywood came calling to make silent films here in the early 1900s.

“With all the horses and buggies, and still the dirt roads, it looked perfectly like a Western (movie set),” England said.

Big celebrity names including Gloria Swanson frequented the movie backlots in Skokie but, “for a very brief moment, they even signed Charlie Chaplin,” England said.

“But after a month or two of winter in Chicago, he (Chaplin) was like, ‘No, no thank you, please.’

“And he canceled his contract and moved out to California,” England told the tour group.

“We (Skokie) can technically claim him (Chaplin) but not for very long.”

Skokie’s filming lore includes Niles East scenes in the 1984 John Hughes movie “Sixteen Candles” and a scene of the downtown in a television series episode of “Leave It to Beaver.”

Sunday’s tour continued to the busy intersection of Oakton Street and Lincoln Avenue where more history was shared.

This intersection was also busy many years ago, England said. A hotel sat on the southwest corner of Lincoln and Oakton circa the mid 1850s. A store, built in 1858, had a first post office and also a saloon and dance hall.

In September 1910, a fire broke out on a dry, windy market day and destroyed most of the business district. Pond water helped to eventually put out the fire, lighting a fire to the realization of an urgent need for a centralized water supply.

The last tour stop was at the second public building constructed in Skokie. Built in 1927, the Skokie Village Hall has a time-honored Independence Hall of Philadelphia look with its decorative columns.

“We are dedicated to sharing Skokie’s history,” England said, “and we want to preserve and share that information.”
