DP World Tour pro scorches iron 286 yards, drives green on par 4

Apart from the ongoing LIV Golf saga—which took another strange turn this week thanks to a Portland realtor and a flash mob —the biggest debate in golf right now is golf-ball “rollback.” In response to increasingly ludicrous swing speeds and distance averages across the upper echelons of golf, this spring the USGA and R&A announced plans to reduce golf-ball distances by 20 or more yards in professional competition.

The proposal was met with a colorful rainbow of reactions from players and fans alike, but for now it remains only that: A proposal. In the interim, the sluggers can keep slugging, just as Jordan Smith did at the Made in Himmerland on Friday, driving the green on the par-4 14th … with AN IRON.

RELATED: You need to see how many times this tour pro waggles pre-shot to actually believe it

The Englishman had this iron custom made for the event and apparently it paid off, carrying the front-right bunkers at a quaint 270 yards before rolling out to a cozy 286—longer than most mere mortals hit their driver … downhill … with a helping wind.

Whether or not you find this kind of thing awesome or sickening says a lot about who you are and where you’re coming from. Did you grow up watching Bonds, McGwire and Sosa park balls in the seats every third at-bat? Or did you marvel at Koufax and Seaver as they mowed batters down like cowboys at a carnival shooting gallery? Only you can decide where you stand, but juiced ball or dead ball, I think we can all agree one thing:

Jordan Smith has some serious pop.

Rasmus Hojgaard wins fourth DP World Tour title after gruelling six-hole playoff

Rasmus Hojgaard made history on Sunday as he became the first Danish winner of the DP World Tour 's Made In HimmerLand tournament.

But it certainly didn't come easily.

Hojgaard, 22, entered the final round in Farso, Denmark three strokes back of Spain's Nacho Elvira, who led at 13-under par.

However, Hojgaard went on a birdie tear Sunday, recording an incredible 6-under 64 in his home tournament.

His final-round scorecard consisted of seven birdies and just one bogey en route to tie the second-lowest round of the day.

Matthew Southgate had the low 18-hole honours Sunday after nearly shooting 59. Instead, he settled for a still-impressive 9-under 61 and finished tied for 10th.

Hojgaard, in at 13-under par after completing 72 holes, was then forced to wait as Elvira finished his final 18 holes.

Elvira, searching for his second DP World Tour title, made a bogey on the last hole to drop a shot and create a playoff between himself and the home-crowd favourite.

What followed was a gruelling six-hole playoff as both players continued to make pars at the par-4 18th.

Finally, by the sixth playoff hole, Hojgaard was able to secure the victory after a wayward second shot by Elvira.

With it, he became the first-ever Danish winner of the event, and earned his fourth DP World Tour title at just 22 years old.

“I’m speechless at the moment," Hojgaard told the DP World Tour after the playoff. "To be fair, I didn’t think I’d end up in a playoff – it’s quite amazing. To win a home event, it’s amazing.

Made in Himmerland Purse, Prize Money, Payout And Field 2023

Oliver Wilson defends his trophy with three places at this month's Open Championship also on offer

Oliver Wilson lifting the 2022 Made in Himmerland trophy

The DP World Tour moves to Denmark with the Made in Himmerland at the Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort.

With just two weeks before the Open at Royal Liverpool Golf Club , this tournament will represent the penultimate event in the Open Qualifying Series with three spots on offer for the final men's Major of the year at Hoylake.

With many players opting to rest before the Gensisis Scottish Open next week, a co-sanctioned event hosted by the PGA and DP World Tour, the Made in Himmerland field, therefore, does not feature any of the world's top 50.

Last year saw England's Oliver Wilson complete a shock one-shot victory over Ewan Ferguson to claim his first win since 2014 on the DP World Tour. The 42-year-old comes back to this event in fine form having finished T2 at last week's British Masters at the Belfry.

The field will be topped by World No. 56 Pablo Larrazabal who looks to continue his fine season and maintain his bid for a Ryder Cup pick . The Spaniard has claimed victory in two of his last five events at the Korea Championship and KLM Open and may well be looking to make another case for a place on Europe’s team for September.

One of those players who already occupies a spot in the projected Ryder Cup team is Yannik Paul who is also participating in the tournament. The German is currently fourth in the European points list and bounced back well from his last-minute withdrawal at the BMW International Open to finish in T8 at the British Masters. Despite five top-five finishes, the World No. 99 has yet to win in his second year on the DP World Tour but will be hoping to break that duct this week.

For local fans, there will also be plenty to cheer on with the twins Nicolai and Rasmus Hojgaard both set to compete in their home event. Both are searching for their first Tour wins of the season with Nicolai recently finishing T21 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This year will see the field compete for a purse of $3.25million with the winner taking home $552,500.

With the purse the same as the Italian Open earlier this year, here is the full projected prize money, payout breakdown and field for the 2023 Made in Himmerland at the Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort.

Two holes-in-one, a dq and a guy so frustrated he checked out of his hotel early (then shot a 62) highlight dp world tour's made in himmerland, share this article.

dp world tour himmerland

One golfer made an ace and then got DQ’d.

Another made a hole-in-one on his first swing of the day.

And then there’s the golfer who was so discouraged after his first-round 71 that he made travel plans home, only to go out in the second round and post a bogey-free 9-under 62.

Let’s start with him. That’d be England’s James Morrison, who has two DP World Tour wins in 16 years as a pro.

“I played absolutely dreadful yesterday,” Morrison said Friday in reference of his first round. He admitted he booked a flight and even checked out of his hotel, leaving him no place to stay Friday night.

Then he went out and shot a 62, tying for low round of the week so far.

“Golf is absolutely a stupid game,” he quipped.

"I played dreadful yesterday. I've checked out my hotel, booked a flight, bags are in the car. Gone and shot a nine under par this morning. Golf's a stupid game." We'll see you at the weekend @jimbogolf1 😂 #MIH22 pic.twitter.com/HSrAjqM0sA — DP World Tour (@DPWorldTour) September 2, 2022

As for the aces, Aaron Cockerill had one Thursday on the par-3 16th hole, easily the highlight of his day in which he ended up shooting a 4-over 75. His back nine included three bogeys, a double bogey and quad on the par-4 17th hole, which came one hole after his hole-in-one.

2022 Made in HimmerLand

Aaron Cockerill’s second-round back nine scorecard at the DP World Tour’s Made in Himmerland tournament in Denmark.

Cockerill then failed to sign his scorecard, leading to his disqualification.

On Friday, David Drysdale started his second round on the par-3 10th hole and it took just one swing to find the cup. Drysdale has a pair 68s so far but he’s nine shots back of leader Ross McGowan, who opened his week 62-65 and leads by one. He had nine birdies Friday but also carded three bogeys.

Makes you wonder what the weekend has in store.

DP World Tour: Nacho Elvira holds on to win Soudal Open by one shot as Niklas Norgaard fails to force play-off

Nacho Elvia wins second DP World Tour title with one-stroke victory at Soudal Open; Niklas Nørgaard misses birdie putt on the 18th green to force a play-off; England's Matthew Jordan and Joe Dean end tied for fifth, two shots behind Elvira

Nacho Elvira held on to win the Soudal Open in Belgium by one shot and clinch a second DP World title and first in three years.

Spaniard Elvira began the final round with a four-stroke lead and extended that to five but the chasing pack trimmed his advantage and Denmark's Niklas Nørgaard missed a birdie putt from around 12 feet at the final hole to join the leader on 18 under and force a play-off.

Elvira, who parred each of his last seven holes during a level-par round of 71, won his maiden DP World Title at the Cazoo Open in July 2021, with his nearest miss since then when he lost in a play-off to Rasmus Højgaard at the 2023 Made in Himmerland.

The 37-year-old was in tears after his victory at Rinkven International Golf Club on Sunday, where the final round had to be suspended midway through because of heavy rain that flooded the greens.

Elvira said: "I'm very happy. I was a little bit emotional because I know all the hard work that I put in that sometimes doesn't show. I couldn't ask for anything better.

Nørgaard signed for a three-under 68 to finish in a three-way share for second on 17 under, alongside home favourite Thomas Pieters, who carded a five-under 66, and France's Romain Langasque, who matched Norgaard's final-round 68.

A fter its successful Soudal Open outing in Belgium, the DP World Tour is moving to Germany this week for the 2024 European Open. The event is set to tee off on Thursday, May 30 at the Green Eagle Golf Courses in Hamburg.

The European Open will have 156 players competing for the $2,500,000 prize purse. Notably, this will be the second event of the circuit's European swing, which will feature seven tournaments across the continent. Ahead of the event, the European Tour has confirmed its field and features some of the circuit's regular names.

The 2024 European Open field will be headlined by the likes of Rikuya Hoshino, Jesper Svensson, Danny Willett, Nacho Elvira, Keita Nakajima and others. Notably, Rasmus Hojgaard, who missed out on a PGA Tour card last year, is among the favorites to win this weekend.

Tom McKibbin won the 2023 European Open beating Marcel Siem, Julien Guerrier and Maximilian Kieffer. The 21-year-old Northern Irish golfer returns this weekend to defend his title. He will be eyeing a second DP World Tour title at the event where he won 12 months ago.

Notably, the European Open will not feature any top-50 OWGR-ranked players in its field. The event will take place parallel to the PGA Tour 's RBC Canadian Open, with several big names competing.
