Oasis: Liam Gallagher announces 30th anniversary Definitely Maybe tour

Live performances of eight-times platinum Britpop album will be accompanied by other songs from the same era by the band

Liam Gallagher has announced that he will tour Oasis’s 1994 debut album, Definitely Maybe, in full for its 30th anniversary.

“I’m bouncing around the house to announce the Definitely Maybe tour,” Gallagher said. “The most important album of the 90s bar none. I wouldn’t be anywhere without it and neither would you, so let’s celebrate together.”

The tour will include fan favourites released while Oasis were touring Definitely Maybe, such as Whatever, Fade Away, Listen Up and Sad Song.

The tour begins in Sheffield on 2 June 2024 and concludes on 27 June – the day before Glastonbury kicks off.

Gallagher is likely to be joined by co-founding Oasis member Paul Arthurs (AKA Bonehead), who resumed touring with him earlier this year after a bout with tonsil cancer. In September 2022, he said that he had received the all-clear from doctors and was in recovery.

It is not quite the Oasis reunion that fans have been waiting 14 years for, since brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher split the band and became estranged in 2009.

The pair once vehemently denied rumours that they would reunite – not to mention declining lucrative offers to tour – but in recent years have humoured fans with the idea.

In August, Noel was asked at a live Q&A who would be in the Oasis lineup were they to reunite.

“So me, Liam. Well, it’s a funny thing because we’re all at a certain age now. Hair was a thing in Oasis, so we’ll have to see what everybody’s hair is looking like. I’m in no matter what. This is not fucking going anywhere. I don’t know. Look. Me, Liam and a load of fucking fit birds.”

Definitely Maybe , released on Creation Records in August 1994, is a landmark record in British music and helped define the Britpop era. It reached No 1 on release, becoming what was then the fastest-selling debut album in British music history, and was later certified eight times platinum.

It was a surprise success in some ways after a highly fraught creation, with difficult sessions at various recording studios.

In a review of the 2014 reissue of the album, Rolling Stone critic Rob Sheffield wrote: “Twenty years on, Oasis’ debut album remains one of the most gloriously loutish odes to cigarettes, alcohol, and dumb guitar solos that the British Isles have ever coughed up.”

Liam frequently performs songs from the album – and from Oasis’s catalogue – at his solo shows. His last solo album was 2022’s C’mon You Know . This year, Noel released Council Skies with his High Flying Birds band.

Tickets for the Definitely Maybe anniversary tour go on sale at 9am BST on 20 October.

Liam Gallagher Announces Summer 2024 Tour Where He Will Perform Oasis' Debut Album 'Definitely Maybe'

Liam Gallagher will definitely be bringing back an old favorite.

In an Instagram post , the British singer-songwriter, 51, announced the Definitely Maybe 30 Years Tour — a small 2024 string of shows where Gallagher will perform Oasis' former band’s debut LP, Definitely Maybe .

"I'm bouncing around the house to announce the Definitely Maybe Tour. The most important album of the ‘90s bar none. I wouldn't be anywhere without it and neither would you, so let’s celebrate together LG x," he wrote alongside a tour poster.

The tour is set to launch June 2 in Sheffield and will run through June 27, where it concludes in Manchester.

Liam will also be visiting cities including London, Dublin and Glasgow, Scotland, along the way.

In the post, he revealed that tickets for the tour will go on sale Oct. 20 on Friday, 9 a.m. BST.

Next year's tour will be the first time the "Wall of Glass" musician performed Definitely Maybe since the band split in 2009.

Definitely Maybe , which was released in 1994, solidified Oasis as one of Britpop's biggest stars, producing longtime favorite tracks like "Supersonic," "Live Forever" and "Slide Away.

At the time, it was the fastest-selling debut album in the U.K. ever, and it sold 8.5 million copies worldwide.

Though it seems unlikely Liam's brother and Oasis bandmate Noel will be joining him for any of the dates, but in May, Noel, 56, spoke with SPIN about the prospect of performing the band's debut album.

“If Liam wants to do the show, great. He’s got to make a living and all of that,” he told the outlet. “Keep the flame alive. It’s not something I particularly would be able to put my heart and soul into.”

As Liam told fans who inquired about Noel on X Tuesday, "He’s been asked and he’s refused."

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher is going on tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the British rock band's 1994 debut album, "Definitely Maybe," the lead vocalist announced in a statement released on Instagram Monday.

"I'm bouncing around the house to announce the Definitely Maybe tour," read the statement. "The most important album of the '90s bar none. I wouldn't be anywhere without it and neither would you, so let's celebrate together."

The monthlong tour around the United Kingdom kicks off in Sheffield, England, in June 2024.

The tour will include performances of the tracks "Whatever," "Fade Away," "Listen Up," and "Sad Song." Gallagher made no mention of performing "Wonderwall," the group's biggest hit, which appeared on the band's second studio album, "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" released in 1995.

USA TODAY has reached out to the band's representatives for comment.

Oasis unexpectedly disbanded in 2009, when Gallagher's brother, Noel Gallagher , chief songwriter and lead guitarist, left the group. Noel Gallagher went on to form his own group, Gallagher's High Flying Birds, while the remaining members of Oasis briefly continued as Beady Eye.

Until now, the band has denied ever reuniting .

The reunion could include Noel Gallagher and co-founding band member, guitarist Paul Arthurs. Arthurs, stage name Bonehead, began touring with Liam Gallagher again earlier this year after a battle with tonsil cancer.

However, on Live Nation, where tickets for the tour go on sale Friday, Liam Gallagher is listed as the performer, not Oasis.

It is unclear whether other previous band members, including Paul McGuigan, Tony McCarroll, Alan White, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and, most recently, Zak Starkey and Chris Sharrock, would return.

The Darkness wants you to put down your phones and pay attention to concerts

This summer, Noel Gallagher was asked at a live Q&A who would be on a hypothetical reunion tour.

"So me, Liam. Well, it's a funny thing because we're all at a certain age now," he said. "Hair was a thing in Oasis, so we'll have to see what everybody's hair is looking like. I'm in no matter what."

How to get Oasis tour tickets

Fans who find themselves in the United Kingdom next year can get tickets for the "Definitely Maybe" anniversary tour at 4 a.m. ET Friday.

Tickets are available on Live Nation at livenation.co.uk , which lists Liam Gallagher as the performer, across 12 dates in Sheffield, England; Cardiff, Wales; London; Manchester, England; and Glasgow, Scotland. Tickets for the Dublin dates are available at Ticketmaster at ticketmaster.ie .

Saw Liam in 2019 at MANC. What an awesome night - got on the front row which meant I had to stay in position for approx 4hrs before he came on - God was it worth it! Almost pissed myself but to get that close to a living legend i would have pissed myself!

Can I just say; what's all this bollocks about crowd interaction - Liam says the odd thing but that's not his style. I don't go to see LG to hear him talk bollocks to the crowd, I go to see him belt out LG tunes! Rock n Roll! These muppets saying he wasn't that good because he didn't interact with the crowd need to get a few more beers down them and just enjoy themselves. Love LG best performer in the world!

Liam Gallaghers As You Were concert at Birmingham Arena was amazing. Such a great atmosphere and excellent performance by Mr Gallagher who always knows how to get the crowd going. His vocals were spot on too. His prank of saying it was the last song which meant a few people left only for him to come back on and sing Wonderwall was class as everyone stood and sang along to it. I knew he was prancing there was no way he wasn’t going to sing wonderwall and his true fans knew that

The venue was good and security checks were also good. As a performance Liam chose a good set list but I was disappointed to see so many people smoking in the venue especially when it’s indoors. My daughter is a big fan so she was with me, she enjoyed all the songs, as a performer he’s not as entertaining as a lot of bands I’ve seen and doesn’t really interact with the crowd as much as others either.

I probably wouldn’t see him again to be honest.

Liam put on an outstanding show in Cardiffs motorpoint arena .the atmosphere was pure electric opening with an oasis classic which set the tone for a rousing set that had everyone bouncing with a great mix of oasis faves and new solo tracks that sounded great live .one of best gigs iv been to. Totally blown away

Totally mind-blowing with special guests...best gig ever... totally amazing experience...Liam performs at his best and the crowd are overwhelmed with it all. Was down the front.. atmosphere electric..best Liam gig Ive been to. Rich full heavy guitar sounds... played all the classics! Most memorable gig ever.

Great gig till he left abruptly without a good night or encore. Many of us stood there waiting for word it was actually done. Strangest ending to a concert I've seen.

I should add that I spent almost as long as Liam was on stage getting out of the parking lot. LAST time at Rebel. Ghastly experience.

Huntergonzo’s profile image

Loved Liam's show in Amsterdam, amazing energy from this guy. The drunk Brits on the dancefloor were a pain, though. Whoever invented the practice of hurling half-full plastic cups of beer over the crowd?

If you don't fancy getting completely drenched, consider proper seats for Liam's shows.

SarahTancrededdd’s profile image

11/10 absolutely biblical. I go to concerts quite regularly but I have never experienced something quite like that. The atmosphere was incredible and Liams live vocals were very impressive. Set list was also perfect. Definitely the best night of my life so far, can’t stop thinking about it.

Liam Gallagher 2024 tour dates revealed

Liam Gallagher has announced a new tour to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of Oasis' debut album Definitely Maybe. The run of dates in 2024 include three HUGE homecoming gigs in Manchester.

The rock 'n' roll star had been teasing the news on social media over the weekend - to the excitement of fans. He had posted a setlist containing the full tracklisting of the iconic Oasis album, which was first released in August 1994.

It has now been confirmed that the tour will see Liam perform the Definitely Maybe album in FULL for the first time. It will also include some "select B-sides from the era" with tickets for the tour going on sale on Friday .

The new tour will start in Sheffield, before taking in dates in London, Cardiff, Glasgow and Dublin and includes three huge homecoming shows at Manchester's new Co-Op Live Arena. They will no doubt be special shows for Liam - not least as the arena is right next to his beloved Man City's Etihad Stadium.

Two of the Manchester dates will be in the middle of the tour - before he returns again to round out the shows with a final closing night show at the Co-Op Live stadium on June 27, 2024.

Announcing the news this morning, Liam said: "I'm bouncing around the house to announce the Definitely Maybe Tour. The most important album of the ‘90s bar none.

"I wouldn't be anywhere without it and neither would you, so let’s celebrate together LG x"

The announcement from Liam's people this morning said: "It would be hard to top Liam Gallagher’s biblical Knebworth Park shows, which proved to be some of the biggest live events of 2022.

liam gallagher on tour 2023

"But the always ambitious icon has once again excelled himself with news of a tour that will be bigger than biblical. Liam will celebrate the 30 th anniversary of the release of Oasis’s all-conquering and massively influential debut album by embarking upon the ‘Definitely Maybe 30 Years’ arena tour in 2024.

"The tour will see Liam perform the ‘Definitely Maybe’ album in full for the first time, along with some select b-sides from the era. The sets will of course be packed with classics – ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star’, ‘Live Forever’, ‘Supersonic’ and ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’, to name but a few.

"But it will also be a rare opportunity to see other album tracks that have rarely, if ever, been performed since the mid-‘90s, including ‘Up In The Sky’ and ‘Digsy’s Dinner’."

Tickets for the shows, listed below, will go on sale from T icketmaster here from 9AM on Friday 20 October.

Liam Gallagher has shared details of a tour in celebration of Oasis’ seminal album, Definitely Maybe .

Fans have been waiting for the news of the tour since Gallagher confirmed earlier this year that he was looking to play Oasis’ 1994-released album in full. Since his publicly-shared interest, Gallagher — who recently became the voice of Manchester’s Metrolink service — revealed that he’d be playing “naughty” B-sides from the era, including the band’s hit record, “Half The World Away,” sung by his brother and fellow bandmate, Noel.

Oasis - Fade Away (Official Lyric Video)

This early Oasis track appeared as the B-side to Cigarettes and Alcohol when it was released in October in 1994 and it's remained a fan favourite ever since.

One of the songs that appeared on the original Oasis demo tape back in 1993, this Noel-sung tune originally appeared on the back of the Shakermaker single in June 1994, two months before the release of Definitely Maybe.

Liam also has previously performed the track live during his solo sets, so it would make sense for him to dust it off again.

I Am The Walrus

A live cover of The Beatles song also features on the B-side to Cigarettes & Alcohol and was performed live several times by the band while they were together.

Featuring on the B-side of Supersonic , the 1993 track is a firm favourite with Oasis fans and has been performed by Liam during his solo career, like when he played a special Radio X Presents gig for us in Manchester above (21:30).

Oasis - Up In The Sky (Official Lyric Video)

The Live Forever B-side is one of the lesser-known Oasis tracks, so would be sure to be a treat for die hard fans. However, it also sees Liam use his falsetto, so might be slightly harder to pull off live 30 years later.

Also on the B-side to Live Forever , Cloudburst is often considered as one of the most underrated of Oasis tracks. Could LG bring it out as a treat come next year?

Asked by a fan on X if he would be playing the song at The O2, he replied: "100 p cent".

The 1994 track served as one of the songs on the B-side to Cigarettes & Alcohol and has been played by Liam in his solo performances, like the above at Isle Of Wight Festival.

While Whatever WASN'T A B-side, it is very much from the Definitely Maybe era. It was the band's first non-album single, released on 18th December 1994 as a Christmas single between Cigarettes & Alcohol (1994) and Rock 'n' Roll Star (1995).

Liam has performed the track on his solo dates, so it's definitely possible for him to bring it out again.

Liam Gallagher has announced four shows at The O2, taking place on Thursday 6, Friday 7 and Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 June 2024.

It would be hard to top Liam Gallagher’s biblical Knebworth Park shows, which proved to be some of the biggest live events of 2022. But the always ambitious icon has once again excelled himself with news of a tour that will be bigger than biblical. Liam will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of Oasis’s all-conquering and massively influential debut album by embarking upon the ‘Definitely Maybe 30 Years’ arena tour in 2024.

The tour will see Liam perform the ‘Definitely Maybe’ album in full for the first time, along with some select b-sides from the era. The sets will of course be packed with classics  – ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star’, ‘Live Forever’, ‘Supersonic’ and ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’, to name but a few. But it will also be a rare opportunity to see other album tracks that have rarely, if ever, been performed since the mid-‘90s, including ‘Up In The Sky’ and ‘Digsy’s Dinner’.

And there are numerous fan favourites that could be performed from the other songs that were released during the ‘Definitely Maybe’ era, which could potentially include another big hit in the shape of ‘Whatever’ as well as deep cuts such as ‘Fade Away’, ‘Listen Up’ and ‘Sad Song’.

Liam says, “I'm bouncing around the house to announce the Definitely Maybe Tour. The most important album of the ‘90s bar none. I wouldn't be anywhere without it and

After becoming the foremost frontman of his generation with Oasis, Liam Gallagher’s solo career has been a story of a remarkable rebirth – and one that has introduced his talents to a whole new audience. It has seen him score five UK #1 albums in just six years: his three studio sets, ‘As You Were’, ‘Why Me? Why Not.’ and ‘C’MON YOU KNOW’ plus the live records ‘MTV Unplugged’ and ‘Knebworth 22’. His comeback has been capped by two unforgettable performances at the BRIT Awards, winning Rock ‘n’ Roll Star of the Year at the GQ Awards, and landing his highest position on the singles charts in thirteen years with ‘Everything’s Electric’.

Liam Gallagher issues tongue-in-cheek warning to Manchester Co-op Live arena bosses: ‘I’ll gig in Lidl’

Rock star Liam Gallagher has weighed in on the ongoing drama at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester, offering to play a gig at Lidl in June if the embattled venue still isn’t ready.

The former Oasis frontman is currently scheduled to perform at the newly built Co-op Live as part of his Definitely Maybe anniversary tour, on 15 and 16 June, then a further two dates on 27 and 28 June.

However, the venue is currently in crisis after a string of issues forced it to postpone major gigs by The Black Keys, Olivia Rodrigo, Peter Kay and rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.

This week, A Boogie’s show was cancelled after a piece of ventillation apparently fell from the ceiling during the rapper’s soundcheck, also prompting venue organisers to cancel Rodrigo’s show, as well.

Gallagher’s fans are now asking whether he thinks his planned performances will still be able to go ahead.

“I hope so,” he responded to one fan on X/Twitter, “surely they’ll have it sorted by then.”

Not long after his remark, an official press release went out from Lidl, gladly accepting Gallagher’s offer.

The supermarket suggested that the “Champagne Supernova” singer could tweak the song titles of some of his biggest hits in keeping with the shop theme, such as “Some Might Save”, “Tiger Roll with It”, and “Don’t Look Back in Hanger”.

Gallagher announced his Definitely Maybe tour in October last year, promising fans the opportunity to hear him perform hits from the definitive Nineties rock album.

“I’m bouncing around the house to announce the Definitely Maybe tour,” he said. “I wouldn’t be anywhere without [the album] and neither would you, so let’s celebrate together LG x.”

As well as seeing Liam perform the big hits from Definitely Maybe, fans will also get the chance to watch the rocker play rarely performed album tracks from the record and other Oasis deep cuts and B-sides from the same era the album was released.

Following the ventillation incident at the Co-op Live arena this week, the Co-operative Group said it was “shocked” and would seek a “full explanation” from OVG.

“We are relieved that no one has been injured, but we share the disappointment and frustration of ticket holders, many of whom are Co-op members, with the continuing delay to the opening of Co-op Live and the disruption that this is causing to everyone who has been looking forward to attending events,” a spokesperson said.

“We will be seeking a full explanation from Oak View Group, who are responsible for the building, to the obvious questions arising from this, together with a clear plan from the Co-op Live venue management team at OVG for opening the venue and postponed and future events.

“Safety is, of course, the number one priority and it is critical that Co-op members and other ticket holders can enjoy events in a venue with the very highest levels of security and safety measures in place.”

Liam Gallagher is apparently happy to engage in some supermarket gigging if Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena isn’t “sorted” by the time his Definitely Maybe anniversary tour comes around.

On Wednesday (1 May), a Boogie Wit Da Hoodie gig was cancelled just 10 minutes after doors opened due to a “venue-related technical issue” . It was later revealed that part of an air conditioning unit had fallen from the gantry inside the venue during soundcheck. Olivia Rodrigo’s scheduled dates on 3-4 May have also been postponed.

When asked by a fan on X about his plans if the venue isn’t “sorted” by his ‘Definitely Maybe’ dates, Gallagher — who’s set to play four homecoming shows (on 15-16 and 27-28 June) — had this to say: “Gig in Lidl”.

Gig in LIDL — Liam Gallagher (@liamgallagher) May 2, 2024

The supermarket then chimed in, replying: “We’re gonna roll with it”.

And just in case Gallagher was running short on setlist ideas, Lidl even had a supermarket-themed one to offer, featuring songs like Champagne Superoffer , Super(market) Sonic and Some Might Save just to mention a few.

Liam’s upcoming solo tour celebrates 30 years of Oasis’ seminal album, with the rocker teasing that he’d be playing “naughty B-sides” from the era and Half The World Away , which his brother had taken lead vocals on.

The tour is set to kick off in Sheffield on 2 June before moving on to Cardiff, with three shows in London, three in Manchester, two in Glasgow and two in Dublin also lined up.

“I’m bouncing around the house to announce the Definitely Maybe Tour,” Gallagher said in a statement. “The most important album of the ‘90s bar none. I wouldn’t be anywhere without it and neither would you, so let’s celebrate together.”

Éric Cantona on new music, Liam Gallagher and if he’ll play Glastonbury

The French former footballer released his debut live album in March

Eric Cantona

Éric Cantona has spoken to NME about his debut live album, ‘Cantona Sings Eric’, working with Liam Gallagher and their subsequent friendship, as well as his hopes to one day perform at Glastonbury festival.

The football legend’s post-retirement career has included forays into acting, art, modelling and, most recently, music. ‘Cantona Sings Eric’, released on March 29, followed debut EP ‘I’ll Make My Own Heaven’ – and was recorded during his first ever European tour at the end of 2023. It included live versions of ‘The Friends We Lost’, ‘Je veux’ and ‘I’ll Make My Own Heaven’, all singles from the EP, as well as ‘I Love You So Much’ – a track that Cantona wrote especially for the fans of his former club Manchester United .

“I’ve always been passionate about art,” Cantona told NME . “Since I was a kid, I’ve felt the need to express myself through any kind of art. The last [art form] I hadn’t tried was music.”

Cantona started out by writing lyrics for his wife, the actress and musician Rachida Brakni, more than a decade ago – and recounted how the music editor of a well-known French arts magazine was presented with the album but refused to listen to music “with lyrics written by an ex-footballer”.

Later, Cantona wrote a song called ‘Le Temps Passe’ for Brakni’s band, Lady Sir, under a pseudonym, Auguste Raurich (inspired by his favourite uncle, Auguste). The same editor, unaware of Cantona’s involvement, this time praised the music and his lyrics specifically.

After that success, Cantona continued to write songs, releasing an EP in October last year. He embarked on a tour shortly after, selling out a string of UK and European live dates. He is currently finishing up his second tour , with the final show scheduled for Amsterdam tonight (April 26).

Recommended

“I love to be on stage – and I love to be in front of the people, you know, singing or playing football or acting in a play in the theatre,” Cantona said. “I think music is a part of what makes us human. Even animals, you know, can feel the vibes of music. It’s like music was there before us. It can take you into another world, like sport can – if you play or as a fan. Playing live gives me a very, very strong feeling. I love it.”

Asked which musicians he takes inspiration from for his performances, Cantona said he tried not to watch his idols too closely for fear of accidentally imitating them. “On stage, I want to be free,” he said. “Of course, when you’re a teenager, you love [certain artists]. For me, I love Jim Morrison . I love Jacques Brel and Serge Gainsbourg but I don’t want to copy them. I have been inspired by people but I don’t do art to copy people. I want to express myself though my personality in my own way. I’m unique.”

Eric Cantona

Looking ahead, Cantona said he would like to expand his live band, which currently consists of a pianist and cellist (plus himself on vocals), so he can play bigger venues and to larger crowds. Perhaps, even music festivals.

“Maybe at the end of this year, I will have a drummer or electric guitarist, more musicians – which is a better way to play Glastonbury or another music festival,” he said. “They asked me to play a festival in France. But I said I’d prefer to go with a bigger band.”

As well as his own music, Cantona has collaborated with other musicians over the years, including an appearance in Liam Gallagher’s 2019 music video for the single ‘Once’ . He also presented Best Music Film to Gallagher at the NME Awards 2020 for the documentary Liam Gallagher: As It Was .

Asked if they’re still friends, Cantona said: “Yes, of course… I listened to his new album with John Squire , the guitarist of The Stone Roses [titled ‘ Liam Gallagher John Squire ’]. It’s a great album. I love it. And they invited me to go and watch them live. I hope I can go, but I don’t think I can with all the [gigs I’m playing]. We’ll see.”

Cantona is following in Gallagher’s footsteps with his new live album – and referred to his friend’s record ‘Knebworth 22’, cut during the first of two sold-out shows at Knebworth Park in June 2022, as inspiration for his own release. “Liam’s album was unbelievable, and I did this project to be on stage with the people in front of my fans. I love that feeling.”
