About Sam Roberts Band
Download Bio & Liner Notes
Being human ain’t what it used to be. We leap eras in weeks, going forwards and backwards simultaneously — the 21st century has become a horror show of technological evolution in the face of political regression. Sam Roberts Band began its seven album arc way back in 2002. Back then, despite the nightmares unfolding in Afghanistan and Iraq, possibility still seemed, well … possible. Back then , Canada ’s highways stretched toward something other than a flaming protest over an oil pipeline, and it wasn’t insane to believe that the future would usher in the future, rather than some shit-blasted reboot of the 1930s.
But a question: has SRB ever believed in the future? I’m not so sure they have. “I’ve been dying since the day I was born,” Roberts correctly observed on his debut solo album, We Were Born in a Flame. Indeed, the band has never submitted to rock n' roll ’s priapic Fender-first machismo, but rather delivered an elegiac swoon wrapped in late afternoon sunshine — hard-won shimmer concealing the pain of maturing, getting older, losing.
Thankfully, despite the autumnal sensibility that runs through their discography, SRB has never come across as a bummer. Their songs aren’t dirges — they’re blueprints for how to be properly alive. This alchemical high-wire act can’t be easy to pull off, especially when their signature sing-along line is, “I think my life is passing me by”. But they’ve managed to keep us sane through the tumult, even if the arena-ready anthems are undercut by the agony of being fully human in inhuman conditions.
The band’s latest record triples down on this methodology. “All Of Us” arrives in the middle of a global pandemic rendered infinitely worse by industrial-grade stupidity that was impossible to either imagine or predict. The album’s opener, “Wolf Tracks”, immediately dumps us in the Covidian wilderness, socially distanced from the pack, scattered, alone. Where does the path lead? To a version of the abyss that holds, dare I say it, promise? “I’m standing on the edge of everything,” Roberts insists, neon-soaked in ‘eighties synths and thundering bass drums.
This twilight-set album is not, however, radically optimistic so much as it refuses to fall into despair. With “ War Chest ”, we are presented with the image of a place in which to store all the good stuff that happens to us, however ephemeral: lazy afternoons, a lover’s laughter, sunlight. But why a war chest? With whom (or what) are we to engage in battle? Perhaps we are at war with both memory, which is always a lie, and forgetting, which is always a submission. Coming to terms with this unsolvable riddle requires a single ingredient: “Without love, where would we be?” asks Roberts.
Ah man, we could all use a little love these days. And love — familial, rather than romantic — forms the theme that runs through the nine-track album. On “ Ascension ”, a genuine arena-rock stomper, we arrive at the idea of self-love, and an ode to the power of perseverance — “you’re never too old to try”, Roberts insists. These are nice words to hear when you’re lying in the gutter looking up at the delicate contrails of an intercontinental ballistic missile. The song, like so much of the album, punches at the phantoms of loss that surround us as time leaves us behind.
In order to grasp the nature of possibility in a bleak world, we can access the map that “Spellbound” conceals in its lyrics. The track takes place just as winter is setting in, and it conjures the contrasting warmth of a mother’s love, of home, of safety. This isn’ t nostalgia, nor is it an ideological program based on the manifestos of bad men and their bedsheet-wearing supporters. It’s the sense of peace that comes from the understanding that we never say goodbye, that we’re constantly re-versioning ourselves. (The most dangerous idea in the demagogue’s playbook is that we are fixed and un-moveable in our identities.) The album’s closer, “Youth”, is more straightforwardly nostalgic, and yet it is also about the inevitability of time passing, and of maintaining the parts of ourselves that encounter the world with the wide-eyed wonder it deserves.
Throughout this heartbreaking journey, Sam Roberts Band moves emphatically towards the 21st year of the 21st century, where life isn’t just passing us by, it’s coming at us with a chainsaw and an eviction notice. In this swirl of malevolence, salvation arrives not in the narrow kinship of the wolf pack, but in a much larger program of solidarity. The clue is in the album’s title: All Of Us. Everyone, locked together in the insane asylum that constitutes late capitalism’s plague-sickened socio-economic matrix, fighting to be free. We have now lived through a strange eon where togetherness breeds contagion, but being trapped in our silos is far deadlier — a road to anger and hatred that has nearly collapsed the supporting beams of every institution worth fighting for.
The album’s title track forms a counterpoint to “Wolf Tracks”. “I will follow you to the end of the road, no you’ll never be alone,” promises Roberts. It won’t be easy — solidarity never is. But it beats being scattered by the wind. “In the darkest times, we’re running for the light,” Roberts shouts on the album opener. I think he’s right. And we’ll be carrying All Of Us as a talisman, to help us ward off the shadows that threaten to erase not just ourselves, but our love.

Sam Roberts Band Shares Tour Dates In Support of The Adventures of Ben Blank
Following the October release of their record, The Adventures of Ben Blank , Sam Roberts Band is embarking on a North American Tour, which includes a host of U.S. stops like Philadelphia, Washington D.C, and New York City.
The Adventures of Ben Blank is singer/songwriter Sam Roberts’ eighth album, and 5th under the Sam Roberts Band moniker. Award-winning rock act Sam Roberts Band, recently released their compelling new single “Projection” via Known Accomplice / Cadence Music Group to radio and all streaming platforms.
“Projection” is a dynamic alternative rock tune that blends introspective lyrics with the distinctive Sam Roberts Band sound, capturing the essence of self-discovery and vulnerability. With its infectious chorus and captivating verses, the single becomes a canvas of personal reflection for all.
“When the lines between fact and fiction have become so blurred, how do we measure our truest selves? What can we rely on? Hold on to?,” said Sam Roberts. The new single “Projection” is seemingly a song with more questions than answers but, at its heart, there is a clear statement that love is still the one constant we can live by.”
In addition to the new single release, Sam Roberts Band are also excited to announce their 2024 North American tour, which will be the band’s first full tour since 2018, due to the pandemic-cancelled previous tour dates. The journey will kick off in their hometown Montréal, QC on February 2nd at Théâtre Beanfield, and includes stops across Canada and select US cities.
Fans who pre-ordered the new album will have first access to tickets on September 12th, followed by The SRB official Fan Club pre-sale.
Public on sale for all shows will be Friday, September 15th at 10am local time.
Sam Roberts Band has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 per ticket goes to supporting War Child and their work to empower children and families in communities affected by war throughout the world. “We are so excited that Sam Roberts Band is supporting our efforts through PLUS1. The needs have never been greater. Conflict has intensified throughout the world with 110 million people currently displaced. Through their generosity and amazing music Sam Roberts Band are part of an incredible legacy of change for children who live with war and we are so grateful,” Dr. Samantha Nutt, Founder and President War Child Canada and War Child USA.
With over 125 million + career streams to date, Sam Roberts Band maintains their tradition of delivering chart-topping singles, consistently surpassing expectations with their music.
The band recently announced their highly anticipated album, The Adventures Of Ben Blank, which is set to be released on October 20th. The album is a collection of 9 tracks and will include the band’s other recent singles, “Afterlife” and “Picture of Love,” which earned a SOCAN #! Award for hitting the #1 spot on the CBC Music Top 20 Chart and the track hit #11 on the Canadian Alternative Rock chart. Pre-order and pre-save the album here.
The Adventures of Ben Blank will be the band’s first new album since 2020’s All of Us. The album garnered critical praise and achieved notable recognition, including a JUNO nomination for Rock Album of the Year and being listed among the top 10 highest-rated albums of that year by Uncut Magazine.
Born in Montreal, Sam Roberts had been a violin player, surrounded by a vast range of musical influences, who eventually moved on to guitar and started a rock band with friends. The Inhuman Condition became the best-selling independent EP in Canadian history and included a re-recorded version of “Brother Down” and the chart topper “Don’t Walk Away Eileen”. In 2003 he released his first full-length album, We Were Born in a Flame. This year marks the 20-year anniversary for the Double-Platinum certified album, which was a huge hit in Canada and won JUNO Awards for Album of the Year, Rock Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year.
Roberts has since continued to release hit Platinum and Gold-certified albums, winning awards across the board and landing once of a lifetime performance opportunities such as at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

Sam Roberts Band
Sam Roberts released his debut in 2002, following a popular independent demo recording he had made in Montreal. Before that point, he had been a violin player who eventually moved on to guitar and started a rock band with his friends. The Inhuman Condition was released and became the best-selling independent EP in Canadian history. In 2003 he released his first full-length album, We Were Born in a Flame. The Certified Double-Platinum selling album was a huge hit in Canada and won the Juno Awards for Album of the Year, Rock Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year. He continued to release hit albums for the remainder of the decade: Platinum-certified Chemical City in 2006 and Gold-certified Love at the End of the World in 2008. Each album also won the Juno for Rock Album of the Year.
For his 2011 release, Collider, Roberts changed from using his name to using Sam Roberts Band. In 2014, Lo-Fantasy was released to great acclaim. Lead single We’re All In This Together reached the top of both Canadian rock radio charts, followed by Top 10 hits Human Heat and Shapeshifters. In 2016, TerraForm was released, the band’s 6th studio album. Lead Single “If You Want It” reached #2 at both rock radio charts. The album was nominated for the Rock Album Of the Year at the 2017 Juno Awards. In 2020 Sam Roberts Band released their seventh studio album, All of Us which featured the hits “Ascension” and “Take Me Away”. In 2021 All of Us was nominated for Rock Album of the Year. 2023 will see the release of the band’s next album which features the new single “Picture of Love”.
Sam Roberts Band continue to deliver their legacy of hit singles to take over the airwaves. The band’s legendary live show has seen them performing around the world including Australia, Japan, extensive tours of Europe and North America and brought them to festivals such as Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza and Bumbershoot, and alongside giants like the Rolling Stones and AC/DC.
Social Creatures
Brooklyn-based SOCIAL CREATURES released their self-titled debut album in 2022 via BonFire Records. Stuffed with analog synths, nostalgic guitar riffs and eccentric grooves, the LP had several tracks featured on Apple Music’s “New in Alternative” curator playlist, and single Blue Lips will be featured in the upcoming Jamie Flatters (Avatar 2) film “Black Dog”.
The band has since hit the road on a national tour with stops in 40 cities including Pleasantville Music Festival and Musikfest, sharing bills with acts like They Might Be Giants, The Allman Betts Band, The Wild Things, and more.
The four-piece features Canadian singer/multi-instrumentalist Jono Robertson, guitarist Daniel Lazari, bassist Jacob Ott and drummer John Patrick Roach. Formed in 2018, the band is equal parts danceable and vulnerable with bursts of hard rock.
Their new single Nothing Changes was featured in Spotify’s “Fresh Finds – Rock” editorial playlist.
“Cosmic, new-age disco… the same synth-sparked beats that burn through the music of bands like Depeche Mode, New Order and Joy Division—yet with hints of the sounds of 21st century indie rock bands like Beach House.” -Bushwick Daily

Recent tour reviews
If you have not had the pleasure of seeing this band live, you should go. The radio does not do them justice. Great rocking show. Clear vocals and impressive instrumental skills. They really have not been given the koodos they deserve. I have seen them at two outdoor shows, early, and later in their career and again just this weekend at the KRock centre in Kingston. Again, if you're hesitating, you should go!

Canada’s best indie rock artist Sam Roberts is a multi-talented instrumentalist and vocalist. Being able to play the guitar, bass and violin, he fronts the band under his name, and together that have put out their fair share of albums. Backed by his band consisting of Dave Nugent, Eric Fares, James Hall, Josh Trager and Chet Doxas, they play one hell of a show.
There is no sugar coating with Sam Roberts, who jumps straight into rocking out his guitar as soon as he takes the stage. He has a super calm demeanor, but also maintains a high amount of energy for the entire hour-long set. When watching him play his guitar, you can’t help but think, “man that guy is so cool.” His vocals are very real, in the “you know he doesn’t edit any of his vocals when he is recording his albums,” which is highly respectable as an artist. I really love that he also includes some live horns, because I mean a live saxophone in alternative rock bands always takes them up a notch when they have a live sax player. It makes the show a little more fun and gives a little more depth to the music that they make.

Closure In Moscow Announce First U.S. Dates In Six Years
Their new album will be released Friday, October 27.
Closure in Moscow have announced their first U.S. tour dates in six years, supporting their forthcoming album Soft Hell (Oct. 27, Bird's Robe Records), with eight Stateside performances this February.
Soft Hell U.S. tour dates:
February 9 Brooklyn, NY Meadow
February 10 Philadelphia, PA TBA
February 11 Baltimore, MD Metro Gallery
February 13 Atlanta, GA Masquerade
February 14 Nashville, TN The End
February 16 Dallas, TX Deep Ellum Art Co
February 17 San Antonio, TX The Rock Box

Tickets are available now via Closureinmoscow.com . Gold Necklace opens on all dates.
In the lead-up to Soft Hell's Friday release, Closure in Moscow have released three singles and videos from the 12-song album, with the most recent being the synth-laden track, “ Keeper of the Lake .”
The accompanying video features a performance video produced by Yovozol with filming by Rowey. Blending ‘90s VHS effects with the quirky and idiosyncratic performance of the band, it's yet another glimpse into a new era of these genre-shifting chameleons. The song follows the band's well-received singles, “Better Way” and “Primal Sinister.”
Soft Hell is the band's third album and their first new album in nine years, following Pink Lemonade (2014), First Temple (2009) and their debut EP, The Penance and the Patience (2008).
Closure in Moscow formed in 2006 and soon attracted attention for their dynamic, catchy and energetic take on post-hardcore with their debut ‘albumette', The Penance and the Patience. In the years that followed the band has released two albums: First Temple (2009) and Pink Lemonade (2014).
New Noise dubbed First Temple “a cult classic,” and Ultimate Guitar echoed that sentiment, saying it's “an absolute masterpiece.” Alternative Press said Pink Lemonade "is anything but simple" and Heavy Blog Is Heavy described the collection as "... psychedelic and theatrical,” adding “this isn't your dad's Closure in Moscow record."

Sam Grisman Project Announce First Consecutive Run of Shows with Peter Rowan
Today, May 14, Sam Grisman Project announced its first consecutive run of dates with bluegrass troubadour Peter Rowan. Based in The Centennial State, the four-night jaunt arrives after previously shared collaborative appearances slated for The Caverns in Pelham, Tenn., also featuring Alex Hargreaves, on June 30 and Sunday, September 1, at the Earl Scruggs Music Festival in Mill Spring, N.C.
The newly revealed Colorado crawl will begin on August 22 at the Chautauqua Auditorium in Boulder, Colo. The ensemble, comprised of Sam Grisman, Chris J. English, Ric Robertson, Dominick Leslie, and Bennett Sullivan, will offer an entirely acoustic music sampling while honoring the legacy of Old & In the Way and revisiting the musical history shared by Peter and Sam’s father, David Grisman and much more.
The nostalgic celebration continues on August 23 at Denver’s Gothic Theatre, with more builds off reprised classics paying homage to the rich history of Sam’s dad, Rowan, Jerry Garcia, Vassar Clements and John Kahn. On August 24, the blended touring group will arrive at Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, Colo., before their last stop on this leg of their summer schedule, August 25 at Mishawaka Amphitheatre in Bellvue, Colo.
Apart from today’s announcement, the band has added a second date at the revered Levon Helm Studio in Woodstock, N.Y., after the success of 2023’s sold-out debut. A follow-up to their already-announced June 15 gig, which will arrive on June 16 and feature Grisman, Robertson, English, Aaron Lipp and Roy Williams. Grisman and Williams remain current for the group’s ensuing June Northeastern dates, with the remaining slots filled by the exciting additions of Victor Furtado and Casey Campbell–making his SGP debut.
On the road, the band is known for its expansive music catalog, having added 400-plus numbers to its archive in the last 16 months. This includes covers from Dawg, Dylan, Garcia/Hunter, Doc Watson, The Band, John Hartford, and traditionals, in addition to material that reflects the player’s solo work, from frequent collaborator Logan Ledger’s “River of Fools” to English’s “We Share As One.”
