Mijn ervaring met Ten Travel super positief

Ik heb de reviews hier gelezen en wordt er een beetje verdrietig van. Vooral omdat ik uit eigen ervaring weet dat het helemaal niet waar is. Ik wilde heel graag aan de slag als animator en Tine en haar team hebben er alles aan gedaan om een leuke plek voor mij te vinden. Ik ben begonnen in Griekenland en kreeg daarna de kans om over te stappen naar Mallorca wat ik graag wilde. Ik heb een super tijd gehad. Als er iets was of als ik een vraag had Ten Travel is 24/7 bereikbaar. Ze hielpen met het krijgen van de NIE, de verzekering, problemen met de huisvesting, dokter noem maar op Tine en haar team staan altijd voor je klaar. Met mij zijn er heel veel die een top ervaring hebben gehad met Ten Travel. Maar het lijkt erop dat mensen alleen nog maar een review achterlaten als ze hun zin niet krijgen en dat is echt super jammer.

Helaas geen goede ervaring

Helaas geen goede ervaring. Luistert niet naar je, terwijl op voorhand alles geen probleem lijkt te zijn, is vooral bezig met wat ze zelf wilt en vindt en probeert dit ook door te drukken. Als je er niet in meegaat dan worden de contacten minder aardig.

Op verzoek van Tine, bij deze mijn aangepaste review: In het begin leek alles top, er was van alles mogelijk en ik zou samen met mijn vriend naar Spanje gaan. Na de eerste aanbetaling sloeg dit eigenlijk om. Vrijwel geen of weinig contact vanuit Ten Travel. Wij hebben zelf maar gebeld of gemaild steeds voor informatie. Ik ben ERG ontevreden ( zacht uitgedrukt ) over het contact en de werkwijze van Tine. Toen er een punt was bereikt dat wij géén vertrouwen meer hadden in Tine en het bedrijf, en dus niet de tweede aanbetaling wouden doen, werd het contact alles behalve positief. Ik ben tevens later geblokkeerd op whatsapp. Tip voor Tine: Reviews zijn ervaringen en meningen van mensen die ze mogen hebben. Dit is geen smaad en laster. Want als ik de andere reviews lees, ben ik niet de enige die jullie op deze manier heeft ervaren. De data van mijn ervaring met Ten Travel was in 2020 trouwens.

Verschrikkelijke organisatie!!!

Verschrikkelijke organisatie!!!! Doen eerst super aardig en zodra ze je geld binnen hebben, moet je het allemaal maar uitzoeken en als je het ergens niet mee eens bent moet je gelijk de cursus/het programma verlaten. Helemaal geen aardige communicatie (pas nadat je hebt betaald en op locatie bent uiteraard) en zeer onprofessioneel!! Beloven heel veel, waardoor het programma heel aantrekkelijk lijkt, maar komen werkelijkwaar niks na. Zeker niet aan te raden!

Vreselijk ervaring

Vreselijk ervaring. Ik voelde me onwijs opgelicht. Tine doet super aardig en behulpzaam en doet alsof ze heel veel voor je regelt. Ik heb ruim €400 betaald enkel voor een doorverwijzing!! Belachelijk. De werkvergunning was bij aankomt NIET geregeld, het duurde 2 weken voor ik kon starten en uiteindelijk moest ik deze zelf betalen. €10,- kost dat ding terwijl Tine er ruim €400 voor vraagt!! Zogenaamd voor verzekeringen ed. hier heeft zij NIETS mee te maken. Dit regelt de organisatie waar ik uiteindelijk voor werkte. Ze doet enkel een door verwijzing. Makkelijk geld verdienen voor Tine door onwetende studenten op te lichten. Mijn advies, doe wat research en je kunt makkelijk zelf een werkvergunning aanvragen en een bedrijf/hotel (bv. Animex) benaderen om te werken in Spanje of een ander land.

Niet mee in zee gaan!!!

Niet met Tentravel in zee gaan!!!! De taalcursus in Malaga kun je beter zelf regelen. Kost 250 euro per week inclusief onderkomen. Tine vraagt 500!!! Ze regelt helemaal niets en ze liegt waar je bij staat! Dus niet doen!!!! Als je in Spanje wilt werken kun je makkelijk zelf in contact komen met hotels en iets regelen. Tine is alleen uit op geld!!!

What you need to know when you travel to the Netherlands

There are certain things you need to know if you’re planning to travel to the Netherlands during the current pandemic. In this article Conrad van Tiggelen, director of strategy and branding at the Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions , helps fill you in so you can properly prepare for your trip.

What is the current situation in the Netherlands?

‘The Netherlands has re-opened for the most part. Some basic rules still apply, however: avoid busy places, stay 1.5 metres away from other people, wash your hands often and – if you have symptoms – stay at home and get tested. Face masks are no longer required in most public spaces. Public transport is the only exception: everyone aged 13 or older must still wear a face mask at stations and airports, on trains, buses and ferries, and in taxis.’

Is the Netherlands ready to welcome foreign tourists again?

‘Absolutely. The Netherlands is a welcoming country and is looking forward to receiving tourists in a safe, responsible way. We’ve missed having visitors from abroad and are excited for their return. The Dutch are always happy to put their knowledge of other languages to use to help foreign visitors.’

What do tourists need to bear in mind when travelling to the Netherlands?

‘Exactly what you need to bear in mind when travelling to the Netherlands depends on where you’re travelling from, how you are travelling and whether the country you’re travelling from is on the list of safe countries and regions.’

Find out whether you are required to self-quarantine and what documents you need when you travel via the check on reizentijdenscorona.rijksoverheid.nl . It will give you a personal travel overview, based on your travel details.

Travelling from within the EU/Schengen area

See the list of safe countries and regions in the EU/Schengen area .

• You are travelling from a place that is on the list of safe countries/regions: you may travel to the Netherlands. You do not need proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or a negative COVID-19 test result. You do not need to self-quarantine. You are, however, advised to get tested or take a self-test after you arrive.
• You are travelling from a high-risk area: you may travel to the Netherlands. If you are 12 or older you must have a Digital COVID Certificate (proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or negative COVID-19 test result) . You do not need to self-quarantine. You are advised to get tested or take a self-test after you arrive.

Travelling by air

If you are 13 or older and are travelling to the Netherlands by air, you are required to complete a health declaration form.  Download the health declaration form here .

Travelling from outside the EU/Schengen area

See the list of safe countries and regions outside the EU/Schengen area .

• You are travelling from a place that is on the list of safe countries/regions: you may travel to the Netherlands. You must show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result. You do not need to self-quarantine. You are, however, advised to get tested or take a self-test after you arrive.
• You are travelling from a high-risk area:  an EU entry ban is in place for people travelling to the EU/Schengen area from places not on the list of safe countries and regions. Generally speaking you may not, therefore, travel to the Netherlands – although certain exceptions do apply. Find out who is exempt from the EU entry ban and may travel to the Netherlands. You must show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result. You do not need to self-quarantine. You are advised to get tested or take a self-test after you arrive.
• You are travelling from a very high-risk area: you are required to show a negative test result and to self-quarantine. When arriving in the Netherlands after a stay in a very high-risk area, you must self-quarantine for 10 days – this applies whether or not there is a virus variant of concern in that area. And it applies even if you have proof of vaccination or proof of recovery. If you get tested on day 5 you can shorten your quarantine period.

If you are 13 or older and are travelling to the Netherlands by air, you are required to complete a health declaration form. Download the health declaration form here.

Type of negative COVID-19 test result required when travelling to the Netherlands

If you need a negative COVID-19 test result to travel to the Netherlands, it must be from either a NAAT (PCR) test conducted no more than 48 hours before your departure or an antigen test conducted no more than 24 hours before your departure. There are additional measures if you are travelling from a high risk area.  Find out more about test result requirements here.

Changing planes in the Netherlands

If you change planes in the Netherlands and you board your connecting flight within 24 hours without leaving the airport in the meantime, you do not need to show a negative COVID-19 test result. If, however, you are travelling from a very high-risk area you must have a completed and signed quarantine declaration form with you, even if you have been vaccinated.   Download the quarantine declaration form here.

If you are 13 or older and travelling to the Netherlands by air you are also required to complete a health declaration form, even if you are only changing planes. Download the health declaration form here .

Please note that in some cases you may require an airport transit visa .

You are travelling through the Netherlands by car/motorcycle and will be in the country for less than 12 hours

If you will be in the Netherlands for less than 12 hours you do not need to show a negative COVID-19 test result. If, however, you are travelling from a high-risk area you must have a completed and signed quarantine declaration form with you.  Download the quarantine declaration form here.

What should tourists bear in mind while they are visiting the Netherlands?

‘You can have a great holiday in the Netherlands. Hotels, camp sites and holiday parks are all open. There may, however, be additional rules in place. Shops, museums, amusement parks and other sights and attractions are also open, but you may need to book tickets in advance. Make sure you find out ahead of time what rules apply at your accommodation and any locations you want to visit.

Restaurants, cafés and bars are open, although guests must be assigned a seat and everyone must keep 1.5 metres apart. Establishments serving food and drink may not stay open past midnight or open before 06.00 in the morning. Nightclubs and similar venues are currently closed.

Multi-day events with overnight stays are not permitted before 20 September. One-day events are permitted subject to certain conditions. Event organisers may request that you show a COVID certificate to enter – for this the Dutch CoronaCheck app is required.’

What should tourists do if they become ill while in the Netherlands?

‘Stay in your accommodation and do not leave except to get tested. You can make an appointment to get tested by calling 0800 1202 (or +31 850 659 063 if you’re calling from a foreign phone) between 08.00 and 20.00. COVID-19 tests are free of charge in the Netherlands at all test locations run by the municipal health services (GGD). If you test positive for COVID-19, follow the instructions given to you by the healthcare professionals. If your symptoms are life-threatening, call the Dutch emergency number 112.’

What should foreign visitors bear in mind before leaving the Netherlands to return home?

‘Many countries consider the Netherlands to be a high-risk area. Your home country may therefore require you to show a negative test result when you return. Before leaving the Netherlands, always check the latest rules for entering your home country.’

Do you have any additional tips for holidaymakers travelling to the Netherlands?

‘There is a lot to explore in the Netherlands within a relatively short distance. Avoid busy places and seek out different adventures. Stray from the beaten path and discover some of our country’s lesser-known spots. Do as the locals do and explore by bike, for example. There are many places in the Netherlands where you can rent bikes (including e-bikes). Visit Holland.com for inspiration.

Another option is to take in Dutch culture in our museums, many of which now offer reduced admission. If you are planning to visit several museums, the Netherlands Museum Pass could be a good option for you – it offers unlimited access to more than 400 museums across the country. Due to the restrictions in place, museums may require you to book tickets. You should therefore plan your visit in good time to be sure you can get in during your stay in the Netherlands.’

The Best Things to Do in Newfoundland (+ Road Trip Itinerary)

A road trip itinerary with the most unforgettable things to do in newfoundland.

My husband and I first stepped foot in the eastern Atlantic Canadian provinces ten years ago on a family cruise. We had nothing but heavy rain and dense fog the entire trip, but since we hadn’t done much research beforehand we didn’t realize at the time how much we were missing. 

Don’t Miss These 20 Must-Know Tips Before You Go to Newfoundland

It was a good thing too because after we looked up the ports once we got home, we couldn’t believe what we saw. Colorful fishing villages. Sandy beaches. Vibrant cities. Historic lighthouses. Scenic drives.

It looked like an entirely different world than what we experienced so we’ve talked about going back ever since. When the announcement was made that the Canada border would be opening back up to Americans again, we figured it would be the perfect time to go. 

And so began a deep dive into planning a two-month Canadian road trip. 

Our original plan focused on The Maritimes – New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island – but we soon realized Newfoundland, Canada’s easternmost province is not much further. Only sitting a hop, skip, and a ferry ride away, we added the island to our itinerary.

Since we didn’t know anyone that personally visited before, we had no idea what to expect. The island surprised us in so many ways!

What we came across was a genuine kindness and distinct aura of local pride you won’t find in many places, incredible hiking trails, and raw beauty that begs to be explored. 

We can definitively say if Newfoundland isn’t on your travel bucket list, it should be!

When to Visit Newfoundland 

What is the best month to visit Newfoundland? The answer to that question depends on what magical experience you are chasing – floating icebergs, historical lighthouses, majestic whales, exciting festivals, or adorable puffins.

Because Newfoundland has it all and so much more!

Summer is by far the best time of year to visit Newfoundland and is also prime time for whale and puffin watching. 

In late June and July, the temperatures start warming up and flowers begin to bloom. July is the driest month and August is the hottest. 

We visited the last week in August and the first week in September. The weather was a variety of sunny days, clouds mixed with sun, and a few windy and rainy days but warm temperatures with highs around 71 degrees Fahrenheit  (21 degrees Celsius). 

On any given day, there’s a chance for a lighthouse or a moose sighting. But if you’d like to have icebergs floating in the background, plan your trip in the springtime in late May or early June. 

How to Get to Newfoundland 

Since it is an island, your only options to get to Newfoundland include a ferry or a plane ride. 

If you fly, you’ll most likely begin your trip in the capital of St. John’s located on the southeast side of the island. 

If you choose to drive, you have two options: a six to eight-hour sail to Port aux Basques or a fifteen-hour sail to Argentia.

Because of limited availability and planning our trip not too far in advance, we ended up taking the Port aux Basques ferry both ways.

If you are planning ahead of time, I suggest taking the Port aux Basques ferry in and Argentia out to avoid an entire day of driving. It takes roughly nine hours from port to port double backing through some areas.

How many days do you need in Newfoundland? The island of Newfoundland is the 16th largest island in the world.

For comparison, it’s a quarter larger than Ireland and roughly the same size as the state of Ohio. 

It takes a long time to drive from east to west and north to south.

Ideally, you should plan a week at a minimum, but two weeks not only gets you to all the highlights but allows you to enjoy them with a few hikes and tours here and there. 

Here is my suggested Newfoundland road trip itinerary. 

Newfoundland Itinerary 14 Days: Summary

• Port aux Basques, 1 night
• Corner Brook, 1 night
• Gros Morne National Park, 3 nights
• Kings Point, 1 night
• Twillingate, 2 nights
• Terra Nova National Park, 1 night
• Trinity, 1 night
• Conception Bay, 1 night
• St John’s, 3 nights

Day 1: Port aux Basques

If you take the daytime ferry you’ll be arriving in Port aux Basques between 6:00 and 7:00 pm and will have to go through customs so for the first night we don’t recommend you drive too far.

So instead of rushing out and trying to beat twilight, once you debark, kick off your Newfoundland travel with a short yet spectacular sunset hike. 

Be aware one of the many unique things about Newfoundland is that it has its own time zone. Once you arrive on the mainland, you’ll be a half-hour ahead of Atlantic Canada.

What to See & Do: A delightful introduction to the island is the Grand Bay West Walking Trail . The easy hike starts out on a boardwalk overlooking the beach and a quiet bay then continues to multiple platforms overlooking the ocean.

There are wildflowers, swaying green grass, an old barn, sandy coves, and is the perfect spot to catch a sunset.

Where to Eat & Drink: After a long day, Seashore Restaurant with its friendly service, ocean view, and big portions is the right place for dinner. On the menu, you’ll find Newfoundland local dishes, seafood, and sandwiches. 

Where to Stay:  If you like your privacy, book at St. Christopher’s Hotel for a spacious and clean hotel room. 

For another fantastic experience, Hotel Port Aux Basques is a great option as well. 

Those looking for a free camping site, stay in the lot at Grand Bay West. It has two clean bathrooms that stay open all night and you won’t be bothered. 

Day 2: Corner Brook

Cruise the Trans-Canada Highway lined with evergreen trees and views for miles for roughly two and a half hours before detouring over to Cape Saint George. 

What to See & Do: The Boutte du Cap Park honors the French Acadian fishermen, Newfoundland’s first settlers, by baking bread in traditional wood fire bread ovens in a few places in the area including the park.

Try to get there between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to take advantage of the free freshly made rolls made by locals in the stone oven in the park.

The bread is so fluffy and light; it’s a real treat.

Note: The bread oven demonstrations are typically done in July and August, Monday – Saturday. 

Also at the park, you’ll walk along plunging cliff edges to admire what locals call The Boot, a craggy horn jutting out from the mainland.

Head north on 463 to finish the Port au Port Peninsula loop drive before stopping at Captain James Cook National Historic Site .

The site has amazing views of the city of Corner Brook and the Bay of Islands and you only have to walk a short distance for spectacular photo opportunities.

Complete the day with a hike on the OBIEC Bottle Cove Boardwalk Trail.  It was one of our favorite hikes in Newfoundland!

With every step, it just keeps getting better and better.

A relatively short hike that starts out on a flat boardwalk, and after a short climb and walk on a tree-covered path pops out to spectacular views where the cove meets the ocean. 

Where to Eat & Drink: After the historic site, take a break for lunch at the Saltbox and Everoutdoor Adventures overlooking Benoit’s Cove. 

Where to Stay: Right in the heart of the small downtown is Glynmill Inn , highly rated with a restaurant and pub. 

If you’re looking for something a bit more modern and free continental breakfast, the Hew & Draw Hotel is a great option. 

Days 3 – 5: Gros Morne National Park

Next up on your Newfoundland road trip is Gros Morne National Park which is not only a national park but a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well. 

The park is a magical experience and one of the most beautiful places in Newfoundland that should not be missed! 

What to See & Do: We have a few recommended hikes for every level of hiker.

The Eastern Point Trail , found near the south end of the park near Trout River, is not on the park map for some reason but I read about it beforehand so I had it on our itinerary. 

And I’m so glad we did because it scales our top 10 Newfoundland hiking list along with Bottlecove as one of our favorite trails.

If you are an experienced hiker, I highly recommend the Gros Morne Mountain Trail, a roughly 10-mile (16 km) climb that will knock your socks off. But it is difficult and will take an entire day so if you are in good shape and willing to climb on rocky terrain 

Another popular hike (and the picture you probably have come across a hundred times when researching your trip) is the Western Brook Fjord hike. We did not hike this trail because you either have to book a super expensive guide or go through a bunch of red tape to prove you are experienced and reserve a permit weeks in advance. 

I suggest booking the Western Brook Pond boat tour instead. It still requires a hike (roughly 2 miles but on flat land) to the dock but then you’ll get to enjoy the magnificent views of the glacier-carved fjord while relaxing on a boat. 

Other do-not-miss easy hikes include the most unique part of Gros Morne, The Tablelands , where you can actually see part of the earth’s mantle. 

We knew we had to experience this unusual section because of its rare geology, but what we didn’t expect was for it to be barren yet beautiful.

Steve’s Trail is another fantastic short hike, which starts in a meadow and leads out to a beautiful beach.

It’s also a great cove for spotting seals. 

And last but not least, make sure to catch a sunset at Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse. It’s another one of the most beautiful places in Newfoundland. 

Where to Eat: A unique restaurant mixing Newfoundland culture in a diner setting in the Tablelands area is the Merchant Warehouse Retro Cafe & Wine Bar.

Even though local craft beer and fish and chips are the most popular items on the menu, there are also burgers, sandwiches, and specialty desserts to be enjoyed inside or out back on the patio with water views. 

Where to Stay: We van camped at Berry Hill Campground inside the park, but if you aren’t camping The Rooms at Woody Point are comfortable and well-rated. (Take a tour of our minivan-turned-campervan here and see all the essential camping items we recommend.)

If you like the cabin vibe, book one of Bambury’s Hillside Chalets ; they are in a great location for exploring Gros Morne National Park.

Day 6: King’s Point

You’ll be backtracking a little bit today through Deer Lake, but from there you’ll head north to the town of King’s Point, another charming small town. 

What to See & Do:  From Gros Morne, you can drive direct to King’s Point or you can take an hour detour a little north to Tilt Cove . 

With a population of four, the super tiny hamlet is the smallest town in Canada. 

Founded in 1813 for its gold and copper ores, it was also Newfoundland’s first mining town.

Today, the sleepy town has a few livable homes and remnants of its mining past. 

On the way, Foster’s Bawn Lookout Trail in La Scie is a worthy deviation. Located at the tip of Baie Verde Peninsula, it’s another prime spot for iceberg viewing and whale watching during peak season.

It’s a short walk to a wooden platform with views like below. 

Another option is to arrive early in King’s Point and hike the Alexander Murray Hiking Trail , a popular 5.3-mile hiking trail. 1,000 stairs lead hikers to a breathtaking lookout.

Alternative Option

One of the most unique things to do in Newfoundland is to see floating icebergs from the glaciers of western Greenland. 

If you are planning a trip from April through August, you may want to adjust your itinerary from King’s Point to add a night up north in St. Anthony or Hay Cove to see the frozen giants and visit the L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, one of Newfoundland’s hidden gems.

The rugged coast is where Norse sailors first settled in North America – long before the famed Christopher Columbus. It’s the only authenticated Viking site on the continent and recently researchers figured out the exact timeframe – 1,000 years ago in 1021.

We struggled with whether or not to add L’Anse to our itinerary, but in the end, we chose not to add the extra driving time (it’s roughly 4 hours from Gros Morne National Park) since we visited in late summer and the icebergs had already disappeared. If you decide to add the additional stop and you need to keep your itinerary to 14 days, I suggest reducing one night in St. John’s. 

Where to Eat & Stay: A fantastic option for lodging and dinner is at By the Sea Inn & Cafe , located right on the water in the bay. Our waitress told us it’s not uncommon to see whales frolicking right outside your window. We weren’t so lucky, but there were multiple pictures hanging on the wall to back up her story!

We camped at King’s Point RV Park and although the campground itself is nothing to write home about the view is amazing and it is a cheap option. It was one of our favorite campsites of the trip. 

Day 7 & 8: Twillingate

A stunning coastline, a winery that serves up wine created with iceberg water, a historical lighthouse, and scenic country roads. 

Yes, Twillingate is worth an overnight!

What to See & Do: If you are visiting during the spring or early summer, Twillingate is a popular spot to take an iceberg and whale-watching boat tour. 

We visited in late summer and all the other tourists we talked to did not see whales on their guided tours so we decided to save our money and try later in the trip on the St. Lawrence River.

Do not miss the Long Point Lighthouse for breathtaking views of the rugged shore. 

Built in 1876 for the fishermen and coastal traders that navigated the rough waters of the Atlantic, the historic landmark is one of the most photographed locations on the northeast coast of Newfoundland. 

Next, hop over to the Auk Island Winery for a tasting. Not only are the names unique – like Fifty Shades of Bay, Moose Joose, Kiss My Arse, and 3 Sheets in the Wind – but the wines, made with local berries like partridgeberry and iceberg water, are as well. 

There are so many breathtakingly beautiful hikes in Newfoundland. We kept saying over and over, “we need more time!”

The French Beach Walking Trail, just east of the city, is another one. The coastline trail offers epic views of a few spectacular coves and if visiting in late summer, wild blueberries bloom ripe for picking at the base of the trail.  

Where to Eat & Drink: Annie’s Harbour Restaurant is a casual seafood restaurant right on the water. Popular with locals and visitors alike, I highly suggest making reservations.

If you like craft beer, you’ll find a cream ale, IPA, brown ale, and stout over at Split Rock Brewery. The cozy pub, right on the harbor, offers a menu with ham

Day 9: Terra Nova National Park

Did you know Newfoundland has two national parks? The second one on your itinerary is Terra Nova, also the most easterly national park in Canada.

What to See & Do: When you leave Twillingate, drive east to Pike’s Arm Lookout on New World Island. The short (but steep) trail is worth the detour and the steps. 

It’s mostly stairs versus a trail, but the climb is rewarding with 360-degree views including Notre Dame Bay and multiple small islands. At the top, you’ll find an outhouse and a platform with a large picnic table to sit at while you take it all in. 

Afterward, head to Mill Cove Trail inside the park. A quick stroll on a boardwalk through a patch of forest leads you to a moderate rock climb then a few stairs, to amazing views. Under a mile long, it’s another short and sweet hike with big payoffs.

Where to Eat: There are not many restaurants to choose from today, a few local popular ones you’ll come across are Gill’s Grill in Gambo, Rosie’s Restaurant & Bakery in Gander, and Country Style Coffee & Bakery in Glovertown. 

Where to Stay: There are not many lodging options near Terra Nova National Park so we camped at Newman Sound Campground, right in the heart of the park. The sites all have electricity, water, and showers. 

If you are not camping, consider Glovertown Ocean View Suites and Cottages or if you’re traveling with family Terra Nova Cabin . 

Day 10: Trinity

Before motoring to Trinity, there are a few interesting sites on the Bonavista Peninsula. 

What to See & Do: Start the morning at Tickle Cove Sea Arch , a magical bay of red sandstone and quartz. The relentless waves of the Atlantic Ocean eroded the rock from both sides creating the wonderful sea arch.

It’s just one of the significant geological sites in the peninsula that led to the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation. 

Over at the Cape Bonavista Lighthouse , take a tour and climb the 1843 historic structure. Also, spend some time walking the grounds to look for whales and puffins.

Afterward, swing through Dungeon Provincial Park . There you’ll see, The Dungeon, a large crater with two sea arches. It’s also quite the sight to see as horses and cows graze on the dramatic coastline.

Another must-do in the area is the Elliston Puffin Viewing Site to see the small sea parrots from land, one of the only places in North America to offer such a sight.

PRO TIP: You’ll be looking for all sorts of wildlife on your trip, so make sure to pack a good pair of binoculars like these! We bought them right before our trip and they worked out great. Lightweight, budget-friendly, easy to use, and comes with a carrying case. 

There are usually a few flapping around the colony at all times of the day but sunrise or sunset is the best time to visit. 

After checking in to your guesthouse, take a stroll through the quaint town of Trinity, which has been an active settlement since 1588.

Where to Eat & Drink: Another cool fact about Elliston is that it is considered the Root Cellar Capital of the World with hundreds of frost-free underground and hill vaults. You’ll see a few at the puffin viewing site but also at Nanny’s Root Cellar Kitchen .

It’s the perfect restaurant to try traditional Newfoundland food like cod tongue, fish and brewis, or the famous Jiggs dinner in a historic building. 

If it’s a Thursday through Sunday, stop in at Port Rexton Brewery to grab a pint, a gourmet grilled cheese, and poutine at the permanent food truck stationed at the outdoor patio. It’s a fantastic spot to sit and relax. 

If you’re ready for an extra special dining experience, make reservations at Twine Loft in Trinity. The restaurant offers a 3-course dinner by candlelight overlooking the water. 

Where to Stay: Book a private room with a bath at Eriksen Premises within walking distance of everything in town. 

Day 11: Avondale

In the morning, walk the noteworthy Skerwink Trail , a 5.3 km hike in the Trinity area. The trail was previously selected by Travel and Leisure Magazine as one of the top 35 walks in North America and Europe. 

I hate to disagree with this designation because the hike is outstanding. But one of the top 35 in ALL of North America and Europe? Not sure it lives up to all that hype but worth it? Absolutely.

The stunning experience includes a tranquil walk in an evergreen forest lined with blueberry bushes, impressive overlooks at Robinhood Bay, towering sea stacks, and wonderful views of the towns of Port Rexton and Trinity. 

What to See & Do: On the way to Conception Bay, you have to stop in Dildo. Yep, that’s right, there’s a town called Dildo in Newfoundland! 

Afterward, explore the historic small fishing villages of Cupids and Brigus . You can view artifacts from one of the oldest settlements in North America at the Cupids Legacy Centre then walk the narrow lanes of the neighboring town. 

Where to Stay: Don’t let the check-in at the small neighborhood bar throw you off at Gloria’s BnB. Attached to the other half of the building is a guesthouse with private rooms and bathrooms for a reasonable price. In the morning, expect muffins, coffee, and juice in the shared room on the main level. 

Days 12 – 14: St. John’s

You’ll finish your trip in St. John’s, the capital and largest city in Newfoundland. 

What to See & Do: There are a few things you must do while staying in St. John’s. Check out this 2-hour boat cruise that leaves from the heart of downtown to see whales, puffins, and more. Or maybe you are just interested in a downtown walking tour to learn all about St. John’s fascinating history and interesting architecture. 

Visit Cape Spear, the easternmost point in North America found at the tip of Newfoundland just 10 miles east of the city.

Constructed in 1836, the Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site is the oldest surviving lighthouse in the province. 

Another unforgettable experience is hiking the North Head Trai l. It’s the oldest and supposedly the most popular trail on Signal Hill but we didn’t see many people while we were on it. 

Start at Fort Waldegrave up to Signal Hill (if you get there around noon you can see them shoot the cannon) then over to the fishing village of Quidi Vidi.

You won’t want to miss the quaint historic hamlet nestled in a tiny harbor surrounded by large rock outcrops. 

NOTE: There is a small parking lot as well if you’re not up for the challenge of the hike. 

A perfect location to rest your weary legs is the Quidi Vidi Brewing Company . Grab a table on the patio overlooking the bay and order a flight to try a few of their many delicious beers.

The fish & chip food truck serves up the best we had on the island. 

After proper hydration, finish your hike with an easy flat stroll along the Quidi Vidi Lake Trail back into St. John’s for a 5-mile loop.

Optional: If you’re visiting during whale season take a drive on the Irish Loop which starts just 20 miles south of St. John’s.

The scenic route winds around the southern region of the Avalon Peninsula. Add Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, Tors Cove, La Manche Provincial Park, Ferryland Lighthouse Mistaken Point and St. Vincent’s to your itinerary. 

Otherwise, I’d skip it to spend more time in and around the city. 

Where to Eat & Drink: Get screeched in at Christian’s Bar, check out the speakeasy-feel in the basement bar at YellowBelly Brewery, get stuffed at Get Stuffed, and eat at the vegetarian Peaceful Loft. 

Where to Stay: The historic Gower Manor B&B is perfectly located and has free parking and breakfast.

If you don enjoy B&B’s, the JAG Boutique Hotel is less than a 5 minutes walk from George Street with comfortable rooms appointed with a mini-fridge and Keurig coffee machine. 

The Argentia port is only an hour and a half from St. John’s so plan accordingly for your last day.

Hello! I was happy to find this site as my husband and I are in the midst of planning a trip to NL this summer and our travel habits seem similar to yours. This will be our first visit to NL, and we’ll be traveling in a campervan with our dog and plan on sleeping every night in the van. Do you know if it’s essential to book campsites at the national and provincial parks in advance or if there tends to be day of availability? We’ll be traveling late July/early-mid August. The mention of the free campsite at Grand Bay West is really helpful, do you know of other similar free campsites throughout the island? Many thanks and happy travels!

Hi Lisa! I’m so excited for you, Newfoundland is such a magical place! Based on the time of year your visiting, I would probably book in advance. We saw a lot of campers and we visited in the beginning of shoulder season. I would at least definitely book Gros Morne in advance since it’s a busy park. I dont know of any other sites offhand, but we used the iOverlander app for free campsites.

You need to make a significant correction – you fly into ST. JOHN’S. St. John (no “s”) is in New Brunswick and you’re in trouble if you book a flight to St. John if you want to be in Newfoundland!

I liked the article but feel you really should warn people about Wreck House.The day we came off the ferry we knew to stop at the Welcome Centre and check the winds at Wreck House. They were gusting at 50km to 80km and forcasted to go to 80km to 100km. As the wind here is always a cross wind, anyone traveling by motorcycle (me), or RV, or towing a trailer needs to be warned. That particular day one motorcylist was blown off the road and one transport was put on its side when the driver over corrected.

A beautiful visit but ckeck the winds before proceeding to Corner Brook.

What if we want to include a brief visit to Labrador? How to get to Newfoundland from Halifax?

There is a seasonal ferry. To get to Labrador from the island of Newfoundland, take the ferry that runs from St. Barbe on the island’s Great Northern Peninsula to Blanc Sablon, on Québec’s southernmost coast, right next to the border with Labrador.

Two of us are plannng to travel to NF in August. Reverse you trip somewhat and fly into St. John’s and fly out of Deer Lake (think that is the name?) and we’ll rent a car. Notice that you didn’t mention Fogo Island. No time for it or not to you liking?

We just didn’t have time. I’ve heard good things though!

Is this trip doable without camping? Could you wing it or would have to plan lodging far in advance?

It is doable without camping, but I’d definitely recommend reservations if you are traveling during the peak season of July and August.

We road tripped out there in our own car so we looped back. We tried taking two different ferries, but the one was already booked.

28 Best Things To Do in Amsterdam

Amsterdam offers a lot more than vice. There's the world-class Van Gogh Museum , the eye opening  Rijksmuseum and shopping on Nine Little Streets for culture hounds. Lesser known cultural must-dos abound. At IJ Hallen flea market, you'll find

Vondelpark Vondelpark free

Located southwest of the city center, Vondelpark is the favorite leafy retreat of just about everyone. Not only is it the largest city park in Amsterdam, it's also one of the most revered in all of the Netherlands. Most recent travelers said they enjoyed people-watching and picnicking at the park; other reviewers recommend avoiding a late-night visit as the park can be a little frightening once the sun sets. During the day, though, the park is filled with couples, families and friends, and is definitely worth a visit.

Ponds, greenspaces and playgrounds are connected by winding paths, which also run by an open-air theater, a restaurant and a range of statues and sculptures. Open 24/7, you can take trams 1, 2 or 5 to the Leidseplein station, and you'll have just a quick walk (less than 5 minutes) to reach the park's entrance. The park is free to visit.

Canal Ring Canal Ring free

Architecture and history buffs will delight in Amsterdam's Canal Ring area. This half-moon of canals dates to the 17th century. Today, it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The elaborate gables notable in Dutch architecture are on full display across hundreds of brick houses. Places of particular interest include Rembrandtplein (a prominent public square, named for Rembrandt, who owned a home nearby), historic warehouses, Protestant churches and formerly clandestine Catholic and Mennonite churches. Look up sites of interest online to determine opening hours.

The built environment is the big draw here, although recent visitors found plenty to enjoy within the historic buildings too – there are plenty of shopping, dining, and drinking spots. Visitors come for the views as much as the fare, so consider planning to eat at one of the scenic restaurants here (Incanto and Brasserie Ambassade are particularly well-reviewed). Many noted that this is a good area from which to embark on a bike or boat adventure.

Oud-West Oud-West free

Bordered by must-see attractions like Vondelpark and the Rijksmuseum , Oud-West is a refined Amsterdam neighborhood bursting with shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. Come to Oud-West during the day to visit stylish boutiques and design stores after visiting Vondelpark. Or, plan a trip into the neighborhood for dinner – there's De Hallen (a food hall and cinema), street food and endless restaurants and cafes. Upscale Restaurant Adam is exceptionally well reviewed, as is the more affordable option, Staring at Jacob. After a meal, you can dance the night away at one of Amsterdam's alternative music venues.

Recent visitors to Oud-West particularly enjoyed the less touristy feel, abundance of beautiful architecture, and kid-friendly spots.

If you love history, culture and food, then you'll want to save time for a stroll or a guided tour through Amsterdam's Jordaan area. Frank was a Jewish girl who went into hiding after German Nazis invaded the Netherlands and began forcibly transporting Dutch Jews to concentration camps. Today, the home is a museum and travelers can imagine what it'd be like to stay hidden away from the Nazis for more than two years, only to be betrayed and taken to a concentration camp.

Artifacts inside the museum include historical documents, photographs, film images and belongings from people in hiding and those who assisted them. Frank's original diary and other notebooks are also on display, though original objects from the annex are not on display, as it was stripped of its contents during World War II. A free audio guide – available in nine languages – is included with admission.

Dam Square Dam Square free

Europe is known for its grand public squares, and Amsterdam boasts plenty. Those arriving at Amsterdam's Central Station can walk just five minutes to arrive at bustling Dam Square. The historic 13th century buildings are filled with restaurants, shops, and cafes. Food stalls are available too. Those looking for more sightseeing opportunities should note the Royal Palace , New Church and consider a visit to Madame Tussauds.

The informative – even inspiring – museum tells the stories of those who lived in the Netherlands during the Nazi occupation and explains how the atrocities of World War II transpired. Through authentic objects, photos and documents, film and sound fragments, visitors will learn how the resistance manifested in the Netherlands.

Recent travelers said the thought-provoking museum leads you to ask yourself what you would've done if the Nazis had occupied your country. They were also pleased with the audio guides that are given with the ticket price, as well as with the exhibits which are displayed in both Dutch and English.

Van Gogh Museum Van Gogh Museum

The Van Gogh Museum holds the world's largest collection of Van Gogh's paintings and drawings, including "Sunflowers" and "Almond Blossom." The museum itself is one of the most-visited museums in not only Amsterdam but in all of the Netherlands. Travelers come from near and far to see the artworks created by the tortured artist, who cut off his own ear and died by suicide due to his worries about his financial future and recurring mental illness.

Because of Van Gogh's popularity, some travelers highly recommend purchasing online tickets ahead of time to avoid lengthy museum lines. Though some were disappointed that the museum does not house some of the artist's more famous paintings (many of them are exhibited in other museums across the globe), reviewers did praise the museum's layout and its display of his earliest works.

The center of Amsterdam's entertainment scene, Leidseplein sits southwest of the city center and is filled with nightclubs, movie theaters, concert venues, casinos and, of course, some coffee shops. For the performing arts, the Melkweg (Milky Way) concert hall and the International City Theater are of particular note.

Leidseplein is the place to be if you enjoy mixing with the masses. If crowds aren't your thing, you should steer clear of this area – definitely don't book a hotel or hostel here – or maybe head to the nearby Vondelpark instead. Vintage clothing shops nestle alongside accessories stores and interior design boutiques, and hours vary by store.

Recent travelers called the area a lovely place to stroll and said it was less touristy than other parts of the city. Though you'll likely rub elbows with plenty of other travelers, you'll also encounter your fair share of locals.

De Pijp De Pijp free

De Pijp, which is also called the Latin Quarter, is known for its 19th-century architecture and its collision of different cultures. Here, you'll find ethnic restaurants, eclectic shops and the tranquil Sarphatipark. The Heineken Experience sits on the northern edge of the neighborhood. 

Travelers say that De Pijp feels less touristy and more like authentic Amsterdam. They also call it the heart of the city for young people thanks to its beatnik vibe and trendy eateries.

Measuring more than 6 feet tall and 77-plus feet wide, the red-and-white "I amsterdam" sign is a prime place for a photo op. You'll find the main set of massive letters situated inside Amsterdam Airport Schiphol; however, multiple versions are typically on display throughout the city.

Although some previous visitors were disappointed that the main sign no longer sits in front of the Rijksmuseum , many enjoyed snapping pics of the smaller version at the airport. An additional set of letters appears at various events throughout the year, so if you plan on attending a large festival while in town, look around to see if the sign is on-site. You can also spot the letters while jogging the track by Sloterplas Lake, but some characters in this set lie flat, so it's not ideal for photographing.

Considered one of Amsterdam's top museums (along with the  Van Gogh  and  Anne Frank  museums), the  Rijksmuseum  (or State Museum) features an impressive collection of artists, including Rembrandt and Vermeer. As befits a state museum, the ornate building contains mostly Dutch works from the 15th to 17th centuries – though its entire collection stretches across 800 years.

Visitors recommend getting to the Rijksmuseum as early as possible in the day to avoid standing in a line to enjoy both the breathtaking building, grounds and art. The busiest times are Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. And once you've finished touring the interior, step outside and enjoy the gardens – a recommendation from past visitors. Though some reviewers griped about the museum's confusing layout, they still said it was among their top to-dos in Amsterdam.

Although some recent travelers highly recommend taking the tour at the Heineken Experience, others described it as a marketing ploy rather than a tutorial in the beer-brewing process (the real brewery used for production sits on the outskirts of Amsterdam; this location is simply a museum).

A'DAM Lookout A'DAM Lookout

Opened in 2016, A'DAM Lookout provides some of the best views of downtown Amsterdam from its location in the southern corner of the Overhoeks neighborhood. The property's main draw is its observation deck on the 20th floor, which provides 360-degree panoramas of the city's port and canals. Before admiring the view, visitors can peruse the property's interactive exhibit. Adrenaline junkies won't want to miss Over the Edge (Europe's highest swing) on the outdoor rooftop deck, while foodies should save time for a bite to eat at Madam (an internationally-inspired eatery on the 20th floor) or Moon (the 19th floor's upscale revolving restaurant).

Visitors cannot get enough of A'DAM Lookout's breathtaking vistas. However, a few lament the extra charge required for the swing. From time to time, the venue also offers free lunchtime performances.

Recent visitors called this one of the world's best concert halls, which offers fairly reasonable ticket prices. If you're hoping to attend one of the venue's free concerts, plan to arrive early – past visitors said the staff at Concertgebouw hands out tickets on a first-come, first-served basis.

Whether you're a boat enthusiast or want to learn more about Dutch maritime history, Amsterdam's National Maritime Museum is worth a visit. Located about halfway between the Verzetsmuseum and the NEMO Science Museum , The National Maritime Museum houses one of the world's largest maritime collections, with roughly 400,000 different items. Artifacts you'll find here include navigation instruments like compasses, the Royal Barge (an intricate royal vessel commissioned for King William I in the early 19th century) and a life-size replica of the Amsterdam (a ship that wrecked during its maiden voyage to Asia in 1749).

Several visitors raved about the exhibits, especially the one focusing on navigation. Although, a few past travelers warned the museum offers a gimmicky atmosphere, could use additional information and interactive displays, and charges high entrance fees. Many previous museumgoers recommended the virtual reality experience on the Amsterdam ship, which shows you how the city's historic harbor grew to become a bustling port.

The museum reopened in March 2023 following a renovation to introduce five new museums spaces, including more etching and exhibit areas and a multimedia tour dedicated to the artist's life.

Several travelers also highly recommend watching one of the etching demonstrations, which they say gives a more comprehensive understanding of the art and takes place three times a day. However, if you're traveling with kids, you may want to skip this attraction as past visitors said there is little to interest youngsters.

It was a great tour! The tour guides were very nice and helpful. The one I liked the most was the local tour guides who were very knowledgeable who told us about the history of the area. The hotels were good, but some hotels were packed for breakfast time. For this trip, I think is not very good for senior because of the time frame and the walking distance in certain area. If the weather is good, it might be fine. But when the weather is bad, it's rough for senior to walk around. In case of bad weather or if the senior prefer to stay in the bus please allow them to do so. If you ask me for suggestion, I would suggest the tour company must make it clear about the extra trips/excursions which are not covered in the trip to avoid any confusions to the tourists. For example: trip with attractions/ excursions is X amount, trip without attractions/excursions is Y amount. Overall, I enjoyed the trip. It was a chance to meet new friends and learning the history and culture of different countries.

Comfortable buses, mostly nice hotels with good Breakfast. Staff and other passengers are great and helpfyl because of my mobility issues. Felt rushed through but covered a lot with good descriptions.

Well organized and well executed tour.

The tour itself was interesting and enjoyable. There should be more transparency about approximately how much free time is available in each city. The big negative for me was the tour director made some racially targetted comments about Indians which were not appropriate in any day or age. I am highly disappointed that I have paid thousands of dollars to be on this tour and had to listen to people of my race being mocked and belittled by the person leading the tour. The comments weren't targeted at me but still targetted at people of my ethnicity. Why am I being made to feel inferior because of my ethnicity? Disgraceful behaviour. I would recommend this tour but not the tour director we had.

A friend recommended Uniworld to me and I'm glad he did. What a wonderful experience it was. The boat, the staff, the food, the scenery - everything exceeded my expectations. And you could be as active or laid back as you desired. I started each day joining the exercise class on the top deck. There were daily walking tours of the local town or village where we were moored, a strenuous hike for the more adventurous and a bike ride between towns. Bicycles were available to use at any time and many did meander up and down the bike paths along the river. I was travelling alone and had no trouble mixing and dining with the other guests, even though I am a little shy when it comes to social situations. I am looking forward to my next Uniworld experience, the difficulty being, which one will I choose!

I absolutely love the cruise. The staff on board especially. They were so kind and took care of everything we might need. The tour locations were beautiful and interesting. Can’t wait to save up for another.

Everything went smoothly as we planned except for the tulip gardens tour which had been scheduled monrhs before. It was the day of tulup festivals . anoyher tour was arranged by the tour company. The hotel Jakarta was wonderful . Clean, good restaurant, and very attentive.

Tolle Reise - sehr gut organisiert

Crucemundo people and food were great. Ship was clean and comfortable. We loved having the freedom to go on and off the boat when the boat was docked in port. Would have liked more time in Delft. Sunday and Monday the museums and shops were closed in Rotterdam. Having Tulip in the cruise name is a bit misleading since we don’t see any. Tour radar should not be so strict about the meals as we were brought back to the ship because they had to feed us on board. Transportation should be both to and from Amsterdam, considering you are advertising that the crew starts and ends in Amsterdam. No, Zaandam is NOT part of Amsterdam. We should be offered the optional excursions for purchase at the beginning of the cruise. There should be some minimal criteria for tour guides. Most were great, but a couple were not up to par.

Great service, good guides, excellent food

When compared to other river cruises on which I have travelled, service on Avalon is less caring. Food is ok but not super. Worst of all, notwithstanding the prevalence of seasonal flu, they did nothing about guests talking avidly without mask while at the buffet table selecting food. Nor were coughing and sneezing customers asked to wear mask while in the bus, boat trips or at briefings. As a result, a number of passengers including my husband and I developed very bad flu towards the end of the trip.

The number of holiday sites in this category is enormous, and given the demand on the internet for complete holiday trips in combination with the comment that it is very difficult to find the right travel agency, we have put together our top 10.

The comparison has been made between well-known and large travel agencies such as D-Reizen, Tui and Kras, but also the less well-known ones have been included, so that we paint the correct and complete picture. 2. Oad - At Oad you are assured of a trip with a good price-quality ratio. They put together the trip in such a way that you can fully enjoy what you expect, wherever or however in the world in the most beautiful places in the finest accommodations. Of course Oad is affiliated with ANVR / SGR.

3. 333Travel - Specialist in long-haul travel for over 17 years. Tailor-made travel and everything meets the needs and budget of the customer. Perfect service.

4. VacanceSelect - Is a Dutch travel organization that focuses on holiday park holidays. The company offers accommodation in various locations throughout Europe and offers a range of accommodation, from comfortable mobile homes to luxury lodges. VacanceSelect focuses on families and groups looking for a relaxing and comfortable holiday. The company offers numerous facilities at the sites, including swimming pools, restaurants, playgrounds and sports facilities. VacanceSelect strives to offer its customers a great holiday at affordable prices.

5. Alltours - A wide and complete range of various types of tours. Among other things exceptionally cheap for going to the beach or sun.
